Thanks for making my head spin Brian.
Also, will it REALLY be that hard to find someone to run the offense as good as Pat White? Sure he was a PHENOMENAL runner, but he's obviously not a very good passer. We can't find another one-dimensional qb to take his place? (C. Brown, Feagin, or whoever).
Maybe I'm simplifying things waaaay to much.

OK, i liked it, esp. the slide from HTTV. slides like these are really great when accompanied by video on a typical play and/or screen shots at key timestamps.
one thing: the CB blitz.... the coverage behind that is probably zone, yea? i wonder if, had PW had anything but a rag arm, they could have exploited that all day long.

Rutgers fan here. I can only thank you for not reviewing our offensive drives from that game.
Despite the good statistical rankings, our overall defense last season was a mess on most levels. The primary culprit was really, truly, terrible LB play. Our starting MLB missed most of the season season, and Schiano has a weird fetish for speedy LBs who can't tackle worth a lick.
From what I can recall from that game (again, I've blocked most of it out by now), our LBs generally were put into good position by the scheme to make plays, but you need to have supreme discipline vs. the zone read play if you don't have crazy speed like USF does.
It's important to consider the effect of context too. Teel (the RU QB) was playing with a badly injured thumb. That combined with the bad weather and maddeningly conservative playcalling meant that we couldn't really play our game on offense. That being, control the clock with Rice with the occasional deep bomb to Britt, something that Michigan fans are probably familiar with from the past few years. Add in terrible S/T play which was the team's achilles heel all season.
Given the Big Ten style of play, I expect RRod and his scheme to have loads of success once the transition is complete. I don't really expect him to run the zone read on every play like he did at WVU though. They would have passed more if personnel would have permitted it.

1) I hope our center can shotgun snap to avoid future ND-fiascoes
2) I hope our RT doesn't suck this bad. We don't have a ninja back who can juke his way out of trouble like this.
3) We need a runaway beer truck
4) Give up and punt for 17 yards on a QB Draw???
5)
Without that, West Virginia's day was kind of a sputtery mess, and it's reasonable to question whether or not the offense relies on opponent screwups to function.
Is that not part of the spread philosophy? Spread the defense out, make them work harder, make them have to be perfect. Screwing up in a confined space still leaves you close to making plays, or offers other players in the vicinity to make plays. Spread creates more one on one plays that eliminate help.

Yeah, agreed on Medlar, money does make it a bit better. It'd be even sweeter if the beer stands were open during college play. I did like their picnic table area in left field. They also have a monster in right and a hell of a "cavernous" gap in left (It jets back and is painted like cave with stalagmites).
The view there is also unbeatable. You look past the outfield fence into mountains.
By the way I think Rice's Stadium is even better than Penn State. Could be I'm biased and have worked as grounds crew there though.

The thing I remember about this game was that it was the worst weather WV played in in about five years. Not that rain kills WV's offense. I think it did make it hard for White and Slaton to make the cuts they needed to get to the corner. But Rutgers kept shooting themselves in the foot with dropped balls and penalties.
It's not that White has a weak arm, some guy calling the plays wouldn't let him throw anything but a bubble screen. Ever.

Considering Threet isn't quite the rushing threat (woo, play on words) that White is, I think Magee/Rod will be calling more than four plays by necessity.

Completely off topic. How great would it be to watch a live NFL game with the video and sound feed that NFL films captures? It would never happen because it would be R rated (which could be overcome with PPV, etc.) but more importantly it would not allow the NFL to control the presentation of its product and they are nothing if not control freaks. One can dream though.

You can usually hear Rasheed shout "Ball Don't Lie" at least once a game.
My favorite recent moment didn't actually involve having the player mic'd. When the Red Sox were last in Detroit, Galarraga struck out Ortiz looking with the so-called eephus pitch. A few moment later, they cut to Ortiz in the dugout and he mouths, plain as day, "What the fuck was that?" Impemba and Rod just started laughing.
So, I guess that means I support mooseman's idea.

In 16 games we have had 4 ground balls to third. One error, one fielder's choice, one 5-3. It's weird, even our sac bunts always go to the pitcher or first basemen (the high propensity to the pitcher are a bit concerning, but I'm not that worried about it). It looks like we just have perfected hitting it through the hole between third and short. there have been plenty to short and second though. Perhaps Maloney is one of those "shoot everything back up the middle" mentality coaches.

Detroit Martin Luther King's Nick Perry has been hospitalized as a result of falling head first into the Detroit River. Friends say he did so because of a graduation dare. Nick Perry remains in the hospital, and is currently at weak-side defensive end attending the University of Southern California next year.

I wonder how Nichol is going to fit in at MSU? He's got balls going back there after backing out of a commit to go to a better school. Then he runs to them after Bradford locks it down. I'd love to hear a story about some players kicking his ass or something.

FA,
Did Wisconsin drop its baseball program or just not have a field anymore? I used to go to watch them play as a kid living in Madison. The field was right down by the arboretum....granted it was no stadium, literally just a regular looking baseball field...

i think Wisc dropped baseball in the mid 90s for Title IX reasons.
the new fish has grown on me. at 1st i thought the wall in left would be cheesy and i don't like moving the fences in. but, the wall looks good & the fences only went in like 5-10 ft. the press box looks kind of plain (no M flags or anything on the facade? WTF?) and the dugouts are the same concrete ones, just lengthened by 10-15 ft. also, i don't like the astroturf MICHIGAN home plate. go the NYY rout and paint a block M back there.
the OF wall looks great, the RF fence is cool (see thru) and it still feels like a college stadium and the same stadium they've played in since 1921 or whatever.

I'm not predicting anything here. All I will say is that White and Feagin are very similar prospects coming out of HS.
-Other schools wanted them to play DB or WR
-Both just want to play QB
-Fast but a little too skinny
-Great attitudes
-Not a great arm
I am not saying they will have the same college career, but there is promise with Feagins.

I too despise the astro turf M. I hate any astro/field turf on a baseball field. It's just not right. Those fields that are half and half (astroturf outfield, grass infield) are sins against America. And fields with grass baselines... [background fit of rage].

Sam Webb addressed the #1 jersey deal this morning on WTKA. I don't know if there will be a podcast up on the website or not, but I guess some media members had an informal sitdown discussion with RR yesterday.
Rich Rod said he had to "plead ignorance", and that JT Floyd didn't even ask for the number. RR just saw an unassigned number, and assigned it to a player that didn't have a number yet. He said he didn't know about the problem until after the fact, when the papers made a big deal out of it. He said that he talked to Braylon, and it was easy to fix, and that he would be happy if all of his problems were as easy to fix as this one.
(My question is the same as Andy Evans, how did Braylon know about JT Floyd getting the number before RR knew that it was a problem?? Someone obviously dropped the ball in the ath. dept. Wouldn't you go tell the fucking head coach about the #1 deal BEFORE you go to Braylon about it?? Something doesn't seem right. And why did Braylon have to go on the MT Show to air that laundry, before he talked to RR about it??)
Also, he re-iterated that they would elect the captains on a "per game" basis. And they are also going to start bringing in one former player per week as an honorary captain.

"Of Rodriguez playbooks showing up on the Internet, he said: "That's why you don't ever put in your playbook everything that you're going to do. And it's still not going to tell you what you're going to do when you're going to do it. But they get out there. That's why you've got to be careful. We changed our signals from last year to this year, and we'll change signals from spring until the fall. Because you never know who's out there -- or who leaves."
And that was about as close as he got to discussing transfer Justin Boren, who is now at Ohio State."

Holy Haloscan. It keeps stopping at 8:19 from last night.
Yeah, somebody definitely dropped the ball unless Braylon was at a recruiting event with JT or something and found out that way.
I like the game by game captains, it's something to compete for each week. And brininging back an honorary just rocks.

From that game, I think we can dismiss the “does the offense need screw ups to succeed?” concern. WVU’s offense was effective. The personnel lends itself to big plays (or generates screw ups) and they had more than enough drives to dismiss flukes. Three of the failed drives were due to a missed 3rd and 1, 15 yards in penalties, and a bad shotgun snap--not necessary sputtering offense. I suspect if the D plays back to minimize big plays WVU would nickel and dime them to death with runs. It might be instructive to look at the Pitt. game to see what and how happened there because it’s pretty clear the offense sucked in that game. I’d rather see a UFR of Capitol One Bowl, so I can try to understand what and where that offense came from but I’ll take any UFR I can get.

Honestly, the #1 jersey wasn't really a tradition until Braylon set up the scholarship. I realize to us, it was a no brainer to make sure that Braylon's scholarship stay honored. But think about everything RR has to do, learn and worry about besides a jersey. He said he was studying up on UM but this was something that isn't in "history books" Braylon may have just heard from the equip. guy who is in charge of putting names on them. I know the players and the equip. people can be pretty close, like with trainers, he may have just seen Braylon and told him. He may have not wanted to piss off RR by telling him how to run his program.

From EDSBS today:
Rodriguez pleading Reagan on this makes us titter, if only because Tiller believed he could make “a gentleman’s agreement” in college football re: recruiting. We have another deal for Tiller. We will send an attractive female relative of yours out with a very attractive 23 year old man. We will give them two tickets to a local all-you-can-drink beer festival, but only if they promise not to have sex at any point during the day or evening. (No “oral commitments,” either.) It’ll all go according to plan! We swear!

As far as Braylon "running to the media" I think he made the comment about being mad as a joke, didn't he? Never really heard the clip. either way, it's over and done with, and unless J Lehman transfers and wants the #1 jersey, it's safely reserved for the WRs.
