Gravatar Six in a row I believe, not eight.

Gravatar bretk...2001 doesn't count in my book. That is really all this is, its the 100 years of karma that sparty will have to suffer for clock-gate.

Gravatar Beautiful. Simply beautiful. If it was possible for me to pity the Spartans, it just happened after reading all these quotes. Christ, Christ, these guys put Drew Stanton's whiny ass to shame.

I bet these guys kick our ass in NCAA 08 all the time, though. COUNT IT!

Gravatar I think we're paying too much attention to the Sparties. They blew it as they always do, and it was expected. Let Dantonio and his players cry and vow revenge. Who cares? As your preseason preview always aptly points out, same story, different year. I'd imagine the attention they're getting only encourages them.

Gravatar Heh, you could repost this with Michigan State replaced with Michigan, and Michigan replaced with OSU, and no one would tell the difference.

Gravatar Tonight we dine in East Lansing!

Gravatar Mike Hart is brilliant. That "Let Henne get knocked out, then have Mallet get sacked, fumble it right to me and I will run for 11 yards to keep the drive alive" play was sheer genius.

Repeat after me: LUCKIEST. BOUNCE. EVER.

Let them get ahead then kick their ass? Right.

Gravatar Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Gravatar I though it was bad with Bobby William's having no control over the team, then John L and his antics...but this is something else. I knew the fans of MSU had an obsession with UofM football, but now the MSU coaching staff and players do as well.....

Gravatar @ Maximum Sam...

I'm sorry I forgot, could you please tell me who has more wins in the UM-OSU series? Oh? Michigan leads the series 57-40-6? Please post again after OSU at least ties the series, which at the earliest will be in 17 years (the world will probably end before OSU gets that far).

Gravatar I had to suffer through watching the game in Nashville at a Michigan State alum bar, and THIS is the reason why I could barely keep myself from going apeshit on the person who convinced me "it would be a fun time!"

Gravatar Do I see an MSU punching kitten thing in the preview future ?

Gravatar Guys, it's fucking Sparty, that's what they are.....in fact Denny Green should have been their coach..imagine him pulling the "They are who we thought they are..we let them off the hook...you can crown their ass..." thingie....ahhhh would have been perfect.

Let them bitch and cry...sparty,please field a good team and try to defeat us without cheating...the last time they did that was in 99 i guess!!

Until then...SUCK IT SPARTY!! Case closed!

Gravatar Wait, I thought their profession was "hoo hoo hoo," brought to you by Warner Bros. Pictures and Belle Tire.

Gravatar I have no problem with Dantonio and his comments. While he still has a lot of work to do, I think he's got Sparty going in the right direction and will field better teams than his 2 predecessors. We'll still win more than we lose, of course. Finally, while I love Hart and, as a UM fan, enjoy his comments, I can't blame Spartans for their reaction -- Hart's comments were not the model of good sportsmanship.

Gravatar CPT Hoolie is right... Mike Hart is brillant.

Gravatar So it really doesn't matter who coaches at State? You literally have to be Satan to overcome the lukewarm tide of near competence, neurotic behavior and the occasional inexplicably stupid late hit?

Gravatar Unbelievable... Mike Hart makes one innocent little comment and then Dantonio starts a personal attack on him, a college player no less. That is the epitome of classless.

FYI - I was on the OSU version of Mlive forums http://www.cleveland.com/forums/osu/

They are getting hounded over their by SEC fans.

Gravatar @Stephen Y

No, I think I'll talk smack right now, thank you. Although, I think you should wait until the teams start wearing leather helmets again.

Gravatar You know, for a couple minutes after the game on Saturday, I actually felt pretty sorry for Michigan State and their fans. It can't feel good getting kicked in the balls so hard every year.(If only the constant ball-kicking could render them sterile.)

I kept thinking of Darryl from The Office trying to talk Michael Scott down from the roof in that one episode: "Do you know how much courage it takes just to be you? I couldn't do it."

But then everything after the game reaffirmed my hatred.

You didn't see Michigan bitching and crying to the media about Dantonio's moment of silence. Instead, they went out and won the football game, and then had their moment. Hell, nobody even knew what they were doing until a couple days after.

On the other hand, you've got Michigan State, who is so desperate to run off their mouthes that they start early in the 4th quarter well before the game has been decided. It's even more ridiculous when you consider that a bunch of the upperclassmen were on the team four years ago when they collapsed in Ann Arbor.

Gravatar Blue Cheese, nobody's saying Hart's comments were sportsmanlike. We're commenting on the Spartans' hypocrisy in pointing that out. The difference in trash-talking? Hart has the scoreboard and 678 yards vs MSU to back him up.

To use the parlance of our times: Hart draws a lot of water in this town; MSU doesn't draw shit. I don't like their jerk-off name, I don't like their jerk-off face, and I don't like them. Jerk-offs.

Gravatar Its a strange tingling feeling, weird, I haven't felt this much animosity towards State for a long time. I guess that was thanks to John L. Smith making them into such baffoons that you almost felt sorry for them over the past few years.

On another note, I am, and everyone here should be rooting for Ohio State this weekend. We need them to be playing for the National Championship game this year when they come to Ann Arbor. The year is shaping up nicely. It could have been that Ohio State would have come in with several losses in a rebuilding year where the fans would have been disappointed to lose to Michigan, but now this really means something. We can make this a painful lose for the Ohio State faithful.

Gravatar at leeast johnelle had the class NOT to rip on the physical attributes of an opposing teams players.

Can you imagine Carr returning the favor and calling out Hoyers receding hairline?

...the little brother fights back and kicks the other brother's ass.

even if you do Hoyer, that ass will have more hair on it than on your head. good choice going to MSU, btw... as opposed to all your MAC choices, at least you're losing 7-8 games a year on national TV.

Gravatar Some guy tried to walk through the Michigan Marching Band on their way out the stadium (way after the game ended) and bulled his way through after being told no and stopped initially, He got pissed and started cursing "this is Classless Bullshit" and many other expletives about the band, the team, the school, with his 5-6 year old daughter on his shoulder.
You stay Classy Spartans "Harooh! Harooh! Harooh!"

Gravatar It's important to remember, and I don't think anyone has pointed this out, but we really don't know what was said on the field during the game.

Based on Dantonio's grin, we can only imagine the trash talk that Spartans were lobbing at The Blue early in the fourth quarter: In the piles, on the sidelines, at the line.

Based on that, I'll give Hart a pass. If you're seriously going to trash talk before the game is done, you're allowed to take care of it after the game.

Anyone agree?

Gravatar MSU is classic little brother. I know, because I too am a little brother and acted in the exact same way that Sparty has after my brother beat me in baseball, basketball, football, tennis, and in video games.

Those comments by Dantonio and Hoyer are basically them saying, "MOM, MIKEY ISN'T PLAYING NICE!"

Gravatar see, the whole "little brother/big brother" analogy is messed up. michigan state is the youngest brother, michigan is the middle child, and Ohio State is the oldest brother who beats the piss out of both of them if they don't shut up.

for all of hart's bravado and self-importance, what's his record against Ohio State? how about in bowl games?

yeah, exactly. maybe you should beat the big dogs before running your mouth with this "little brother" bullshit. if you wanna talk about hypocracy, there you go. shut the fuck up.

Gravatar http://i21.tinypic.com/epk9z5.gif

Gravatar Heh, you could repost this with Michigan State replaced with Michigan, and Michigan replaced with OSU, and no one would tell the difference.

I must have missed the part where Lloyd asked for a moment of silence after the Florida beatdown. Or Chad Henne saying that OSU losing was like Michigan winning. Or Lloyd mentioning Troy Smith's diminutive stature after getting destroyed by him for 3 consecutive seasons. Or Michigan players planting the flag anywhere. Or Michigan players standing vigil to make sure Oregon didn't plant a flag. The best you have is Mike Hart saying he thought Michigan would win if the teams played again, 10 minutes after a difficult loss.

So yeah, other than that, it's just like UM/OSU. Good comment.

Gravatar Bup Bup- Your mother sells fake asian handbags. Go back to C-Bus loser.

Gravatar you guys shouldn't be so hard on sparty. it is hard being sparty. first you don't get into the good school. then you're told it is ok, you'll still get a good job, etc. then you have to go to school in an ugly city. then usnews says osu has better academics than you and ranks you number 74, one better than the "stevens institute of technology." then you think you'll get payback on the football field but lose every year and are so desperate for a win you have to cheat. then you graduate after 6 years of instruction from professors no one has ever heard of and you can't get that job everyone said you would. that IS pretty tough. i almost feel bad for them. ok, forget it, i don't.

Gravatar Bup Bup- Your mother sells fake asian handbags. Go back to C-Bus loser.

BRILLIANT, i guess this is what you've gotta resort to when reality smacks you in the face

Gravatar Bup Bup -
What's the all time record for OSU - UM ?
Thought so.
Big brother just told you to shut the fuck up.

Gravatar I guess seeing OSU fans trying to talk smack in a MSU themed post. That must mean that the Game is getting closer.

Gravatar Hypocracy n. 1. Rule by the low, those beneath us. 2. The way a dipshit tOSU fan spells "hypocrisy."

Gravatar Hey, another Bucknut coming out of the woodwork to jump into the opponent's blog discussion and yell "shut the fuck up!" What a guy!

Gravatar I'm suprised a "Fuck Michigan" hasn't appeared yet.

Gravatar Dave--as in the Morlocks?

I think that would fit OSU just fine.

Gravatar Bup Bup -
What's the all time record for OSU - UM ?
Thought so.
Big brother just told you to shut the fuck up.

hahah okay, i forgot we were concerned about wins from when OSU was still an Ag college and then joe paterno was in 2nd grade.

this is about mike hart, genius. is michigan fans wanna go "blah blah blah 24 national championships between 1910 and 1929" that's your pergoative.

but mike hart talking trash when he's done nothing but lose in the biggest games is complete bullshit.

Gravatar Everything Hart says is legit, even the part about OSU defense being "nothing special" last year, which UM and Florida validated. (UM's sucked too, but he couldn't call out his own team). So nah, he doesn't have to shut the fuck up.

Gravatar MaximumSam- No you couldn't, because even when Michigan loses to OSU, they still go to a bowl game. MSU throws a temper tantrum, pouts about how they should have beaten Michigan and blow the rest of the season. Everybody loses sometime (except maybe the Patriots), the real test of a man is how you respond when you face adversity. Compare the comments of Carr and his players after the Oregon fiasco to the Spartan comments yesterday. Grownups learn how to move on, Sparty still hasn't.

CTHoolie- Are you suggesting that Michigan got lucky ot beat the Spartans, or that the Spartans are the better team. In the last 40+ years, when have the spartans ever been the better team? 1999 maybe? Perhaps 1987? Other than that, every MSU win, as infrequent as they are, has been lucky at best.

Gravatar I can taste the snark, and it is sour and delicious.

I love the generous sprinkles of hate in my football.

Gravatar So, Mike Hart called OSU little brother? Which is what this thread is about, actually.

Gravatar By the way, as dumb and juvenile, and unfunny as Dantonio's comments about Hart's height were, I will say that at least the man understands the intelligence level of his audience.

Gravatar I guess he fits right into the mold of the MSU coach. What a class act!

http://bighouseblog.com has some pretty good takes as well on this.

Gravatar Bup, bup, bup,

While I will cut you a certain amount of slack for being a fan of a team on a three-game winning streak against UM, your squad did put up a ridiculously low 82 yards of total offense in the championship game and singlehandedly set the perception of the conference back 1-2 decades. Perhaps you might want to finish this season undefeated and with a national title before dishing out too much smack regarding a game that didn't even involve your team. Seriously, why do you care so much? Are the ties to Dantonio that strong or did Hart not genuflect enough after last year's game? You don't like Hart. So noted.

Gravatar @bup bup bup: What don't you get? Hart has destroyed MSU over the last four years. His "little brother" comment references a specific well known attitude about MSU, whether real or perceived, and was provoked by Spartan actions on and off the field. If you want to get pissy about his comments regarding OSU, then I can at least understand that.

Also, not a huge fan of the all time record argument. How's ND's 2nd all time winning percentage treating them this year?

Gravatar there is no excuse for bad behavior I do not care who said what when or where. What Hart said and what the UM players did at mid field were classless and what the MSU coach said before the game and after the game or their QB was also classless. Their is no excuse for bad behavior. Everyone has to shut up now. Michigan has to shut up because if they truly don't think of wins over MSU as big they shouldn't be reveling in them . MSU should shut up because they need to beat Purdue to make a bowl.

Gravatar IMO, the all time record would set who is "big brother". If you don't want to go back to the 20's, then let's say the last 20years, then.
I believe who "big brother" is is a forgone conclusion. OSU is more like the "special" little brother with retard strength.

Gravatar LOL on the wearing Dantonio's skin thing.

On the OSU spammers: Who cares? This thing goes in streaks and usually has. Their current streaks is 5-1. Our previous streaks was 10-2-1 (hint: a lot more recent than when OSU was an ag college.) They seem to be wanting to make up for some insecurity. Let'em cry.

On Hart's comments: Again, who cares? You mean the kid that's been jawing on the field since the day he put on a helmet said something to the media that actually came from Ringer's comments using the 'little brother' phrase before the game? Stunning. Really. The only notable thing about the whole situation is that Dantonio allowed himself to respond publicly to a player. He should have just ignored it and so should everyone else. It's just something for the notoriously troll-like Lansing media (paging Jack Ebling...) to sell to an audience that wants to take offense.

Gravatar it's not just that i don't like mike hart, i also find it ridiculous that you guys are so firmly attached to his junk that you're willing to overlook little things such as a 1-5 record against us since Tressel took over, a horrible record in bowl games lately, A LOSS TO A D-1AA TEAM; all so you can make yourselves feel good about beating a middling Big Ten team.

i mean, yeah, Ohio State fans are obnoxious and arrogant. but at least we a) back it up most of the time and b) don't act like our shit doesn't stink.

in the past 35 games, we're 32-3. mike hart and co. have lost that many games against Ohio State alone.

Gravatar I honestly believe that OSU fans are a jealous that we have other rivals that are on-par with OSU. They want us to hate them as much as they hate the whole state of Michigan. Sorry Bucknuts, but we only have so much hate to pass around. It wears one out, ya know. Seriously. You have a better record in the game over the last few years. Congrats. I'm sure it has enriched your life greatly (hey, I'm an Ohio native - I know that what it means to beat that school up north). But I still think you could start something up with PSU or UW to tide you over; give you something else to think about other that UM (and Flordia pwning you).

Gravatar Mike Hart has gone 1-5 in games against OSU ?? Someone better alert the NCAA

Gravatar since when does osu stick up for msu?

forgot we were concerned about wins from when OSU was still an Ag college and then joe paterno was in 2nd grade.

funny, i forgot we were concerned about wins from before OSU got pwned by florida. you want to throw out the records? fine...let's throw them ALL out. as usual, M does the talking after the game and OSU/Msu does it before the game.

and let's not pretend osu isn't a cow college. that's fucking funny. not as funny as Generic STATE U 'A' sticking up for Generic STATE U 'B.'

iowa state, mississippi state, penn state, michigan state, oklahoma state, ohio state.....all the same: MOOOOOO U

in end, osu is still just 'generic state u', and harvard is still the Michigan of the east.

Gravatar bup bup bup,
I hope you're not using the computer in the library again.

Gravatar well, no fans really back anything up. unless your totally delusional.

but anyway, in the national college football zeitgeist..
UM & OSU = biggest rivalry, media blowjobs whenever any sign of success is shown, legendary coaches, NFL players

MSU = Are they still coached by the guy who hit himself?

Point?

Let's talk about Wisconsin.

Gravatar Posting on rival team's blog about game not involving your team = little brother.

Gravatar bup bup bup, this is about the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry. Not only are the schools separated by 60 miles, but the intrastate clash often involves family members with allegiances to both. Hart's "little brother" metaphor is apt in the context of a family setting, and -- again -- discussing UM vs MSU, not UM vs the conference. Stop trying to change the subject.

Hart went for 150 + 3TDs against OSU last year. He did his part.

Gravatar bup, I am at Ohio State every week and you were pathetic in the 90s. You were defeatist and frightened. Before THE game, friends there would say, "Oh, we'll find a way to lose..."

Enjoy you little spurt of confidence. You've carved out one small chonolocigal slice of success in an otherwise grim history. When it turns, I will fully expect you to revert to defeatist normalcy.

Gravatar "There are no American tanks in Baghdad".

-Mark Dantonio

Gravatar Bup bup bup,

You are normally a little bit more rational. Please explain why you care so much about what Hart said to MSU.

BTW since Hart is a lousy player because Michigan is 1-5 versus OSU, I presume that means Tressel is an abject failure because OSU is 0-9 (nine!) versus the SEC in bowl games.

Thanks for helping the conference.

Gravatar bup bup bup,
"You" aren't beating the shit out of anyone. The team you like beat the team we like. I think most UM alumni hang their pride on a lot more than the football team.

Gravatar A U-M fan ripping on OSU's bowl performances?

Hahaha - how many BCS bowls have you won in the past 5 years?

Gravatar You are normally a little bit more rational. Please explain why you care so much about what Hart said to MSU.

i like mark dantonio (not surprisingly), and i think he's been getting a lot of shit for this little exchange, whereas mike hart seems to be given a free ride for being an obnoxious dick.

all i'm saying is, mike hart has absolutely no place to make any comment about "little brothers" or anything of the kind, not when he and his team has had nothing but failure against their biggest rivals.

Gravatar Didn't Dantonio put himself out there with the clock and his Tressel speech about being proud on 11/3.......well it backfired take it like a man and get ready for next year. You do still play Purdue next week to get bowl eligible.... not that anyone would care in Spartyland, make sure to keep you rfocus on Mich-App St. that will give you more joy than a bowl game anyway.

Gravatar wisconsin!!!

Gravatar it ain't blind, osu boy......i've seen the best of the best of osu grads.......and they still have modest academic acheivements.

just face it, you have a great football program. better than ours over the last 5 years or so. but you're diploma still says 'generic state u.' and that will never change...no matter what time periods you want to ignore and/or include.

Gravatar Bup - So, if Dantonio makes snide little remarks before he's even played the team he's calling out, that's fine, but when Hart responds in kind, it's dickish.
Now I see what you mean. Wait, what ?

Gravatar I suppose I'm duty bound to give a reaction here, so here goes: OH MY GOD JLS HAS KILLED MARK DANTONIO AND IS WEARING HIS SKIN. IT'S GROSS! SO GROSSSSSS! Oh. Oh God. The dripping... the horrible dripping. Effluvia!

I swear I thought the same thing when I began reading his comments...not the he killed him and is wearing his skin part, but that people are saying he isn't quite John L., but he sure as hell sounds like him. A lot has been said about coach Carr recently but one thing that can always be said about him is that he never makes himself look like a foolish idiot...a fooliot...and he never makes the program look like desperate loosers. This Dantonio guy has accomplished all those things in one interview.

Gravatar Look at the record over the past 25 years! 14-10-1! Yeah take that! Mike Hart can't talk shit, but Lloyd Carr and Mike Gittelson can say whatever the fuck they want because they own your ass! Gittelson's going to feed you a kiss my ass pizza and make you gain 150 pounds!

This is dumb...

Gravatar ohio state is fine academically.

really now, come on people. if you aren't doing high level research at UM, and are just a normal undergrad, you might as well be "generic state u." as well.

i know my liberal arts degree didn't get me showered with hundred dollar bills right out of school.

Gravatar Bup - So, if Dantonio makes snide little remarks before he's even played the team he's calling out, that's fine, but when Hart responds in kind, it's dickish.
Now I see what you mean. Wait, what ?

what comments? that he put a countdown clock in the weight room? that he wanted his players to get pumped for the game?

unless dantonio said something disparaging about michigan before the game, there's not basis for mike hart to act like a petulant jerk after the game

Gravatar Bub x3,

Hart is 4-0 against MSU and 2-1 against ND (he didn't play against ND his freshman year). Yes, he's 0-3 against OSU (although he tore up OSU's defense last year, only to watch his own defense blow it), but I'm not sure how that precludes him from talking smack about Michigan State. Or why you care all that much.

I understand that Dantonio is a Tressel disciple, but it took him all of 9 games to establish that he's a bit of a douche (actually, maybe only one, if you consider his original "moment of silence" comment). This has nothing to do with Ohio State or where he came from. Get a clue.

Gravatar Bup bup bup,

If OSU were to beat Michigan again this year (Dear God no!) and Boone or Laurinitis or someone else were to mock Hart for saying that he was going to come back to beat OSU then I wouldn't contend that those players were classless (I might contend that they don't go to class but that is another story). If you mock a future opponent when they lose to another team - like Dantonio (a 51-year-old adult I remind you) did - you shouldn't be surprised when you are mocked in return.

According to your logic, however, since OSU dismally failed in the NC game, no OSU player could mock Hart (people who have failed against others can't mock the opponent they just beat). I really doubt you'll feel that way should OSU win on 11/17.

Gravatar Bup x3 - Dantonio's "moment of silence" comment he made immediately after Michigan's loss to App. State, which has been repeated ad nauseum both in the original post and this message thread, is the comment to which everyone is referring. Dantonio established that he was a dick well before Saturday's game was played.

Gravatar Hart has been "given" a free ride because: a) his comments were about MSU's football program as a whole and were not petty comments about an individual's physical attributes and b) he's a 21 year old player and not a 50 something head coach.

And going 4-0 and having 2 200+ yard games and 2 100+ yard games qualifies him to talk about MSU. If being 0-3 against OSU disqualifies Mike Hart from talking about MSU then getting your ass kicked by Florida gives you no right to talk about us.

Gravatar He doesn't have to make those comments public. He didn't have to announce to everyone that he was having a countdown clock installed. He didn't have to single out Michigan coaches at that one dinner. He didn't have to make the moment of silence comment about Michigan losing to Appalachian State. He didn't have to ask how much longer they had to bow down to UM. He didn't have to respond to the reporters' bait regarding Michael Hart's comments.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Hart should have shut the hell up. I thought the mock moment of silence was a nice though, though. But honestly, Sparty sounds like their profession is in professional whining and moaning. Michigan didn't acquit itself as well as it normally does, and we should not celebrate that. But Dantonio's response is that much more pathetic, and Caulcrick is just laughable.

Bub, you're the one who waas part of the crew that planted the Spartans' flag in the middle of Notre Dame's field. You have lost all rights to talk about sportsmanship for all eternity.

Gravatar Bup bup bup,

Reading your last comment, it appears that you were unaware that Dantonio asked for a moment of silence on his radio show when he found out that UM lost to Appalachian State. It was a funny - but dickish - comment. Do you now understand why Hart responded in kind?

Gravatar and i think he's been getting a lot of shit for this little exchange

that's b/c he's a coach.... a coach who doesn't deserve to talk about another programs' failures or another programs players' physical attributes TO THE MEDIA. not when he started this shit to being with. not when his team chocked a 10 pt lead in their own stadium in 7mins.

and hart can talk all about 'little brother' WHEN IT APPLIES TO MSU. sure, 0-3 vs OSU....but he's 4-0 vs MSU, and THAT was the context of the statement. give me a call when hart calls osu his 'little brother' in football. i won't hold my breath.

so yea, you can talk about 5-1 and how that's kind-sorta like being little brother...over the last 6 years....in football. but that still doesn't change the fact that MSU is UMs little brother in almost everything. and it still doesn't change the fact that osu is a school that has laughable academic requirements for both admission and matriculation.

Gravatar could we get off the academics? seriously?

marques slocum goes to UM.

he's got a fuck lion.

Gravatar Do you know if Slocum brought his fuck lion to school with him, or did he get it upon arrival? Because I am an alum, and I don't recall ever receiving a fuck lion while a student. Frankly I'm a little jealous.

Gravatar Bup,
Dantonio has been poking UM with a stick for 8 months. As conferences, sound bites in the press, the whole "moment of silence" thing. Your Dantonio boy is dead-set on making this the ugly, big-time rivalry it once was. He's said things that Carr and Tressel wouldn't dream of. He's a douche.

OSU fans can't relate to in-state rivalries. They're ugly and personal. Very different flavor from OSU/Michigan, which is tradition-based. This is a family feud. You need to butt out.

Gravatar i tried to fit a fuck lion into markley, but i only had room for a fuck ocelot

Gravatar Dantonio is da realest bitch alive.

Gravatar Aaron - you would have had more room had you lofted your beds.

Gravatar Hart was wrong to call Sparty little brother. They are weak sister.

Gravatar we bunked our beds. the lofts felt like little caves.

Gravatar This is turning into an AOL Fanhouse message board in a hurry. Let's all just calm down and cool it with the academic comparisons, 25-year records, and amorous large cats.

Gravatar ChicaGoBlue is right. there isn't even an academic comparison to be made. truce. agree to disagree....etc. no more posting.

Gravatar If I learned anything about polotics from the rappers of the 1980's (and I learned a lot), talking trash gets you noticed.
If you fight with a pig all you get is dirty, only the pig likes it. My point is "Kool mo Dee" was a nobody until he started talking trash about "LL Cool J" on his records. LL was at the top of his game at the time, however responded to the taunts with a verbal assault of his own. Before you know it you couldn't talk about one without mentioning the other. Kool mo Dee sold thousands of records and was suddenly in the "league" of Mr. Cool J. DantHOnio knows exatcly what he is doing, so does Harbaugh. Press is press, and when recruiting is such a vital part of future sucess, going un-noticed is the wort thing you can do.

Gravatar Pardon our Buckeye visitors who have stepped innocently into our little family squabble. Let me help y’all out some. MSU didn’t become little brother because of what Hart said because that relationship existed long before Mike Hart matriculated to Michigan. They aren’t even little brother primarily because of football. As a younger brother let me add some insight. MSU is our little brother because they have an inferiority complex that no victory can eradicate. They are our little brother because they allow us to make them so. They continue to struggle for Dad’s approval and, in the nature of younger brothers, their need often hinders their success. Even victory twists into defeat. The defect has been implanted inside them by us but now exists independent of us. MSU can only shed their insecurity by healing themselves not by harming Michigan.

I would prefer Mike Hart to speak with more humility but that is my personal style. I think it is clear that Hart’s confidence and defiance in the face of earth shattering defeat has buoyed his team and the fan base. He has steadied the ship when it may have teetered on the brink of disaster.

I am less concerned by Hart’s chirping than I would be if my head coach was responding to taunts from player publicly.

Gravatar ...and now I have Kool Moe Dee songs on loop in my head. That's going to drive me crazy all day.

I used to live downtown!

Gravatar This is turning into an AOL Fanhouse message board in a hurry. Let's all just calm down and cool it with the academic comparisons, 25-year records, and amorous large cats.

yes plz. bup's IP is banned; please stop responding to obvious trolling.

Gravatar The Buckeye posters here remind me of just about everyone else here in this northern Ohio town I live in.......history began in 2004, apparently.

I get told by all my Buckeye co-workers and neighbors that i'm dumb for cheering for Michigan because we always lose to Ohio State.

Really?

In the 21 years leading up to this painful 3-game losing streak to OSU, we were 14-6-1 in this game ...despite the last three years, I'm pretty happy about my team's performance in the Big Game. This is the first time since the 1960s that OSU has won 3 in a row. In my time as a fan, we've done that three times, with one of those hat tricks part of a 5-0-1 stretch.

We've been on the wrong end for three years, for sure.....but in my life as a die hard fan with a Cotton Picking Maize and Blue Heart, I have had a lot more great moments than bad....and, I mean a lot more.....in this the greatest rivalry in college football.

UM-OSU are really the only games shown on ESPN Classic where Michigan wins, and the kids are not wearing leather helmets. Three years does not wipe out two decades of ownership. You are only renting the upper hand in this series.

And as for the Big Brother, Little Brother Thing......thats a state of Michigan issue.....OSU is no relative of mine.....more like that obnoxious self-obsessed neighbor that we have to deal with once a year!

Gravatar Whoops, sorry about that little rant....did not know a truce had been called.....guess being told daily by the locals that I'm foolish for being a UM fan and that MSU is not a rivalry-type game for us got the better of me in light of the Buckeye trolls today.

Here's hoping that Henne's controls are set to: Must. Win. On. Nov. 17.

Gravatar Wild wild west.....

Gravatar Hey did anyone notice after the "moment of silence", Michigan taking a "bow" to the crowd. Was that another dig on Dantonio's "We're not going to bow to Michigan anymore" I wasn't sure if that is what they were doing.

It figures. Dantonio is a Tressel clone. Whiney and complaining about everything and not willing to take responsibility for their mistakes. Always making excuses.

Gravatar J. Lichty: My little sister takes offense!

I was cringing over Hart's comments--they really didn't seem sportsmanlike; I certainly agree with that criticism. But Dantonio looks like a whiny little bitch on this. Primarily because he should know better, but also because he sounds like a huge hypocrite.

I'm sure Hart was shocked--SHOCKED!-- to have it pointed out in the national press that he isn't tall. Golly jeepers!

Gravatar Cry softtly, Sparty. Cry softly.

Gravatar @ bup bup bup

The difference is that Dantonio is a 51-year-old coach of a Big Ten team. I haven't seen anyone (although I'm sure there are a few) who are absolutely elated with Hart's statement. He probably should have kept his mouth shut.

Dantonio is apparently the type of guy who would lose a fight and then while he slinks away dabbing his bloody nose with a tissue would say, "Yeah, well, you're ugly."

Just shut up and kick our ass next year if you can.

Gravatar @ bup x 3

What pissed me off so much about Dantonio's (and others in the Big Ten) relishing in UM's disaster against Appalachian State is that that loss had a huge impact and reflected very poorly against the entire conference. Thus the perception that the Big Ten sucks and the SEC is great... the App. State game had a big roll in that.

It would serve that douche bag Dantonio right if they indeed get bowl-eligible by beating Purdue, and yet not get a bowl bid because they were a bottom feeder from a perceived weak conference.

Gravatar Did Mike Hart have a little brother or little sister that drowned in a swimming pool? If it was indeed a little brother, it kind of puts a "low blow" feel to Dantonio's comments.

Basically, I look at MD like the sympathetic protagonists in those Southwest Airlines commercials . . . DING!! "Wanna get away?"

He poked and poked the U of M bees nest for months. Now that he got stung, he is mad at the bees. Just take the loss like a man.

Gravatar OK, if responding to Bup bup bup is off limits, can we still talk about Fuck Lions?

Gravatar M fan - Hart's younger sister (2yrs.) died when he was 9:

"Hart’s maturity and presence come from a childhood touched by tragedy and uncertainty. When he was 9, his 2-year-old sister, Kaitlyn, drowned in a swimming pool. Hart grew up in a single-parent home, and from that point, his mother, older sister and two younger brothers leaned on him for support." - From Saturday's NY Times.

Gravatar Here's a freep comment that best sums up stuff :

---- cut ----
As a Spartan fan, I wish Coach Dantonio would have said something like,
"For our rivalry to be one of the best intrastate rivalries in the country, we have to beat Michigan more often. That is what I will challenge my coaching staff and players to do next year. Right now, we have to prepare for the Purdue game, so I have no further comment on this year's game against Michigan, any incident that happened after the game, or any statements made by any players on either team."
As a Wolverine fan, too, I wish Mike Hart had said something like, "Michigan State played extremely well for most of the second half and almost beat us. I'm proud of the way we fought back against them and hope we can use the experience to help us win our next two games and achieve our goal as Big Ten champions."
As an unbiased observer, I can dismiss Mike Hart's regrettable remarks as a cocky young athlete getting in one last shot before he leaves.
But as an unbiased observer, I can't dismiss Coach Dantonio's remarks. He's the coach, for crying out loud! He should know better.
I am absolutely no fan of Lloyd Carr's. His conservative game strategy, his lack of adjustments and now, as evidenced by the season-opening losses to both Appalachian State and Oregon, his sometimes poor team preparation have me convinced he can't compete with Tressel. In spite of that, I admire Coach Carr for many things. And one of those things is that I can't picture him in a war of words with a player from another team.
How embarrassing for MSU fans like me.....

No debate.

But these are probably exceptions in SpartanNation.

Gravatar Did anyone just see the College Football Live segment on ESPN? They basically said the winning team wins the argument, Dantonio should not being getting into a war of words with opposing players, Mike Hart may be short in stature but has a big heart, and most of the words started out of MSU and not UM. It was a good piece, and Angelique chimed in over the phone too. MSU = babies.

Gravatar feel free to ignore my solicitation, but since i'm sure that everyone here already thinks that this is the play of the week, take a moment to vote for michigan because i'd like to see them win.

Gravatar I went to both UofM and MSU (for grad school) and I can honestly say that if you went to both and think dirty Ann Arbor is a better place to be/attend school, then I just don't know what's wrong with you. UofM is not inherently better than Sparty, so let's show some class and enjoy the fact that this rivalry is heating up off and on the field.

Gravatar gnarls, your 12:58 post was so friggin' funny! thank you for that

Gravatar @ aaron

the level of academics and general intelligence at michigan is so vastly greater than at msu or osu. in terms of research, quality of instruction, student aptitude, etc. michigan is really worlds apart. marques slocum doesn't diminish that.

all football conversations aside, if i had gone to msu or osu instead of UM my life would be considerably worse.

Gravatar You wouldn't be such a twat and people would like you though...

How is the rivalry heating up? Michigan's won six straight. The only thing heating up is Mark Dantonio.

Gravatar Actually, a monomaniacal focus on UM might actually be a good thing for Sparty.

Back in the day when Colorado stunk, when the Big XII was the Big Eight, and when Nebraska and Oklahoma had yearly, hard-fought, meaningful games, Bill McCartney rode into Boulder, circled the NU game in red and said "Boys, this is our rival and our season!" All of Nebraska yawned in response. But it created a focal point for the program and gave it energy (albeit a dark, seething, angry sort of energy). Eventually the wins against Nebraska started coming, and the CU program built a steady momentum that kept them near the tops of the polls for a stretch of years.

I submit that Michigan St. is in about the spot that Colorado was in back then. They need a singular, acheivable goal, and that's a rivalry game against a big name. (Winning the Big Ten is far too large of a first step.) It doesn't matter if Michigan doesn't see MSU as their main rival, Nebraska didn't see CU that way (and they still don't - it rarely works out that both sides of a rivalry see it as such; analyze the Big 12 rivalry chain and it'll lead to the actual rivalry of OU-UT).

I call bullshit. Nice try, Sparty.

Gravatar I am now dumber for having read through these comments.

How meaningless does your life have to be to go to another team's blog thread and post your $.02 about what we should and should not think about our own rival. Find something to do...practice spelling Ohio or whatever.

Gravatar Or Antonio Henton's version

O-H-Hi-Ho !

/ not my creation

Gravatar Although this is a very nice hit. High fives when someone could be seriously hurt shows a lack of class.

Gravatar Just my $0.02

Hart was out of line. I know this. Michigan is the better team, and was expected to win, so even though it was in thrilling fashion, we should have acted afterwards like we were supposed to win and treated it just as that.

Now, no one knows what trash talking went down on the field from either side, but I don't care. It happens in football. They're rival, they'll talk trash.

What I really don't like is what Dantonio did. Pump your team up, but don't take shots at another team before you play them. And as a coach, a head coach, he really should have just brushed Hart's comments off.

If they beat us, then I really wouldn't have too many hard feelings towards him, because he would be in a position to talk because they won. I wouldn't have a lot of respect for him as a coach, but they won, so it's understandable.

To comment on the size of a player (who has absolutely dominated you for the past four years) after a game is just ridiculous, however. It's crazy, and I have zero respect for him because of not only that, but the little things that he did leading up to the game that have already been discussed here.

Gravatar I think an analogy to Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. Often times, "Triumph" gets the victim so worked up that they start arguing, not with the puppet operator, but with a piece of dog-shaped rubber on the end of a man's fist. Once you start arguing with a puppet, it doesn't matter whether you are right or wrong. You've lost. You will always lose the argument with a puppet. Similarly, a 51-year-old coach will always lose in a personal war of words with a 21-year-old player (especially one that never lost to your team).

Gravatar "After the Michigan game they will collapse wholesale."

"Yes, friends, times are a-changin' in East Lansing."
