I'm not sure whether it was a kick or a punt, but Sears did have one return against Notre Dame and I actually thought he looked pretty good at the time. I was surprised when he didn't come back in the job at all, even when Breaston was sitting out.

I stand corrected. From mgoblue:
Kick Off Returns
Season Opponent Num Yds Yds/Num TD Lng
2006 Central Michigan 1 22 22.0 0 22
2006 at Notre Dame 3 50 16.7 0 21
2006 Wisconsin 1 17 17.0 0 17
(I pray this shows up correctly in the message board)
Those seem like decent numbers, even if they are just kicks and not punts?

11-1? No way. This is your year. No excuses. You should win every home game by two touchdowns, if not more, even if Beanie Wells is the real thing and Oregon's O gets on track. Your defense likely won't achieve greatness, yet if they can hold opponents under thirty, you'll win every game. As you've stated before, you own WIS and their large running backs (it's the Calhouns that cause problems...), they won't score twenty and will not stop UM from posting at least that many. 12-0, absent missed time from at least two of the three offensive stars, is very likely. Unfortunately, you have an issue: the Not Sugar. If you cannot avoid USC or LSU (WVA, LOU, or even TX would work), you're in serious trouble, Heisman Trophy RB or not. You do, however, have to get to N'Orleans first, and with the friendliest Big 10 schedule since the '02 Buckeyes, you should. Enjoy 2007, as 2008 could prove a time of not much rejoicing.

Oregon concerns me, but "Tossup" is going a little far. We are more talented than them, and at home. Their QB melted down the second half of last year, and then spent this summer playing baseball. I am confident predicting that Henne will outplay him.

Games, in order of fear I have right now:
1. OSU
2. @ Wisconsin
3. Oregon
4. PSU
5. Notre Dame
6. @ MSU
7. @ Illinois
8. Purdue
9. Appalachian State
10. @ Northwestern
11. Minnesota
12. EMU
Honestly, though, there are no games this year that we shouldn't win.

To me, the most plausible scenario for an undefeated season in 2007 is the 1994 Penn State model. Their defense that year was not great, giving up an average of 21 pts per game, including games where they yielded 27, 24, 29, 31, and 31. But their quick-strike offense was way potent, averaging a hair under 48, including games of 56, 59, 55, 63, and 61, the last coming in a beat-down of OSU. Their lowest total was 31 in the victory against UM. They had two other close games, including the one against Indiana where Paterno yanked all the starters early and Indiana made it competitive against the PSU scrubs. PSU was punished in the subsequent polls, and was never able to pass Nebraska.
Their offensive stars included Kerry Collins, Ki-Jana Carter, Jeff Hartings, Bobby Engram, and Kyle Brady. Henne, Hart, Long, and Manningham are every bit as capable, to say the least.
The big question to me is whether Carr/Debord are able to move away from the obsessive ball-control, clock-eating, run-on-every-first-down offensive approach that we've favored so often. We've got the people to stretch opposing defenses horizontally and vertically in a hurry, and with the uncertainties in the defense and kicking game we may not have the luxury of 9-minute drives that result in field goals.

Yeah I agree with those who would switch the terms "Tossup" and "Probable Win" with regards to Penn St. and Oregon. I'd say we will probably beat Oregon, and the PSU game will be the tossup. Shit, I don't care if PSU beats us next year with the whole law of averages thing...as long as they don't get us this year, please no.
I do, however, believe OSU is a probable win, to the dismay of SOJ. It's easy to say tossup b/c it's The Game, but really it'll be a major surprise if we lose...only because of intangible reasons, not because we are immensely better than the OSU team. I'd say it's pretty even with our defense and their offense being weaker than usual and our special teams missing major proven playmakers (returner/kickers).

This season is in the hands of Debord (Carr). I think Szabo makes the linebacking corps respectable and the defense will be good enough, if scary at times.
The only way to overcome that "scary" is to unleash this offense. Ask yourselves: "What would Spurrier or a younger Bobby Bowden or the used car salesman at Florida now do with this offense, with this team?"
They would pound the points on relentlessly and do so with an unpredictable flair. I would never wish those coaches on the Michigan faithful and tradition, but DeCarr better, by God in Heaven, MUST pound on the points. They have the talent. Do they have the will?

Who am I kidding? Ugh. If you're a powerhouse, you've got to play like one. Trust me, Lloyd and the gang will still be very well thought of after you hang a 50-spot on the opponent. We seem to be the only major program not to have done that lately. Do it for the sake of Margin of Victory. It's my favorite stat in NCAA 08.

I still haven't gotten over how moronic your "Sam McGuffie is the victim of racism" article was.
The funny thing is that you are an arch-conservative prick who would likely never stick up for a black cause and vent about them being the victims of racism (which in college football, they undoubtedly are when in comes to head coaching jobs).
But a white kid gets bumped down in MEANINGLESS recruiting rankings, and you are up in arms. Hilarious.
And you were a joke before that.

THis link will get anyone excited about App State!!!
A more realistic % of going undefeated is about 5%. Of course, last year we may have started by saying the same thing.
I predict 12-0...a return to just being on the right side of multiple close games decided by 5 points or less (like Henne's first year and completely unlike Henne's second).

Two points regarding PSU:
1. They were bumped from the #1 spot in the 1994 after beating Ohio State 63-14, not after the Indiana game. I'll never forget this, because a player quote after that week's poll: "How much do they want us to beat these guys by?"
2. The 2007 DL is pure, raw talent and surprisingly deep. Don't sleep on them.
