So, the people that have done the best job in the weight room and classroom win, and get awards. The "night of champions" is the last bit, with competition in most reps of 225 bench, and other such things.
I explained that poorly. There's "points" awarded for things like "biggest team increase in reps of 225 bench" or 40 speed, or shuttle speed, or stuff like that, as well as best GPA, and other academic stuff.

I'm in sooo much trouble. Along with school, I work at a Boys & Girls Club as an athletic coordinator. We have a lady who donates money and other stuff to us and she own an amazing catering company. Phil Fritz's source is probably his ass because I see nothing about this on the UM rivals or scout pages. My guess is his making up "insider recruiting" stories isjust a desperate cry for help, either that or he lives in his own universe like in "A beautiful mind" or "American Psycho."
I'm not saying Pryor isn't shady in some ways, but he keeps getting lambasted for things that are normal and/or out of his control.
1. ALMOST getting in a fight - Uhhh...dumb. Yeah, he shouldn't have done it. But what testosterone-filled athlete hasn't?
2. maybe taking a car from an OSU booster - Unproven. Story fizzled.

However when it is scrolling by, the Michigan name is all you can see and I let out a yelp of Joy waking up my sleeping child. Only to be quickly slapped back to reality. I figured CNN wouldn't be running a month old story on the possibility of a high schooler playing at 4 schools and thought it must have been a final announcement.
Anyone else have this happen. In retrospect it was quite an overreaction. Deep down, apparently I really want Pryor even if I try to act like I don't.

However if you want a b-ball example, I very much disagree with your choice of T-Mac. He is a good team leader, has really stepped up since Yao was hurt, and has greatly matured since his early days in the leauge. For a hoops example the first guy that comes to my mind is Vince Carter.

Well, the quote about Pryor not going hard all the time was from his basketball coach. Thus, the McGrady comparison, precisely because he didn't play hard early in his career...and then turned it up once he figured out that you can't be an elite player while only giving 80%.

In regards to TP not playing his hardest:
It is a very rational decision. He will play hard enough so his team wins, but with a near guaranteed future in college and likley professional sports, why risk injury? My high school played Lebron James for the state finals in basketball his senior year, and he really wasn't that impressive. It wasn't because he was bad. Rather, he gave just enough to keep his team up, and didn't want to risk screwing up his future so that he could show some high school kids his talent.

Would also like to add that it has been very entertaining and worth the price of admission to read various Spartina boards these days. All momentum has left Ann Arbor you see, and RR's time at Michigan will be short and humiliating. Spartina is serious this time. Seriously. They really really mean it this time.

I know that this won't be popular, but, I believe Mark Dantonio is a very good head coach. The Sparties actually did something right in hiring him instead of Todd Grantham. He will recruit the state MUCH better than Joh L. Smith did. His coaching staff is also better than Smiths' was. Supposedly, our former coaching staff thought very highly of Dantonio and knew that he was no joke. While I don't think he can ever get MSU at the same level as us or OSU, I do think in a few years he could have them on par with, say, and Iowa where he is competing for a Big 11 championship every 3 or 4 years. I don't think it will take another 20 years for Sparty to make a Rose Bowl appearance. I also question whether or not he will remain at MSU for the long haul. If Spurrier retires in 3 or 4 years, it has already been rumored that if Dantonio has MSU up and running, he would be the odds on favorite to replace him. The lure of having the chance to coach your alma mater might be too strong to keep Dantonio in East Lansing.

Hate to say it but I agree with Jay. I lived in Cincinnati during Dantonio's time there, and if you've ever been to their campus it's a hole. Literally 10 blocks away from one of the worst neighborhoods in the nation. Have you ever seen the movie Traffic? Yeah, we're talking that neighborhood. The fact that he was able to establish ANYTHING there is amazing. He also came up under The Sweatervest, who obviously isn't too shabby.
He got a lot of shit for installing the countdown clock, but it does him no good to ignore the elephant in the room. We will always be their biggest rival- trying to downplay it is just asinine. He's shown in the last few weeks that he can recruit, and I agree with Jay. I see them being a Penn St/Wisky type in the next few years.
If the SC job doesn't open up he could beat us 1 out of every 3 years.

Why is MSU getting so many high early recuits out of Michigan right now??? Both of the big backs from the state this year and a very good OLB also...What is going on??? These kids are committing to MSU before they even look at UM. This is a disturbing trend.......

Michigan's coaches are a little behind on recruiting the state of Michigan. MSU's coaches have a 1-year head start. I think we'll see Michigan getting more recruits out of Ohio and some of the southern states than from Michigan initially.
I don't think Michigan's recruiting losses to MSU have been that big. Michigan has a solid group of RB's already (Brown, Minor, Grady, McGuffie, Cox, Horn, possibly Shaw and Robinson in some situations). And I really don't think Caper is all that good.
I like Norman at LB, but Michigan just got a class of two bona fide studs (Witherspoon and Fitzgerald) and a couple 4-stars with potential (Hill and Demens).
Michigan's biggest needs are QB and DE, and as far as I know, the only big fish that got away so far was Shepard.
I think planning the Barwis Olympics for one night during junior days may be a real stroke of genius. Last years recruits said how intense and impressive Barwis was on their visits. I'd think this workout olympics is gotta be one of his favorite events of the year. I'd also think it would be a hell of a lot of fun for the whole team and a great bonding event. So, new recruits will show up to see Barwis at his best and the whole staff and team having a great night of fun competition. Sounds like the makings for a great visit. Also, this notion that this first junior day included a more select group of desired recruits should make it more intimate and productive.

What concerns me is that is seems like many QB and LB recruits aren't considering Michigan despite having offers e.g. Dorian Bell and Newsome (he has an offer, right?). It also seems like the coaching staff has been very busy lately just getting settled in (especially RR). Do you know if any more potential recruits are considering Michigan?
Tate Forcier and Tajh Boyd are both QB's said to be interested in Michigan. I think some recruits are waiting to see what happens with Terrelle Pryor, even though most assume he's going to OSU.
I don't know many LB's interested in Michigan, but I don't think there are a whole lot of offers going out, either. I mean, we just pulled in four and we're only losing Thompson, Panter, and Logan (in other words, only one starter, assuming Panter and/or Logan don't redshirt).
There was a good article about early recruiting on Rivals last week. At this point over the past decade, there really haven't been very many commitments - usually just 1 or 2 by now. The unfamiliarity with the new coaching staff is going to be a factor.
It will take some time, but if Rodriguez ripped away some studs near NSD this year, I'm betting he can pull in some good ones with a whole year to recruit. But it won't happen overnight.
I not necessarily concerned with the fact that we didnt get them, it more concerns that we are going to have to play against them.....why didnt they all go to Boise St or something instead :)

My buddy Mike got handlejacked in real life this weekend. I was hanging out waiting for him to watch the game when this huge smelly ball of hungarian nasty walked in, and I thought to myself, "Well, last I knew Mike wasn't a large european woman with a buckstache and less than top-end savory body odor, but he/she says he/she's Mike, so I guess it must be." That was Saturday.
Then the next day I see Mike and he pretends to have no knowledge of the good times we had while he was the hungarian lady. What a liar.
Then I say "Dude, you're either a liar or a shape-changing demon who's clearly possessed by the spirit of Woody Hayes", and he says "wtf?!" and I say "Die Demon!" and shoot him with my homemade flame thrower. Good times.
