So when tOSU gets Boren does that make Michigan our JUCO???

if flint and dearborn students get tix, can we enroll our athletes there?

Gravatar If you come trolling, at least hit us with a "Bike Hart"....c'mon man. I haven't laughed since the last one. A world without laughter is a worl........ Wait just remembered your back up QB got busted trying to pick up a hooker. LOL!! There it is. My life is back in order.

Gravatar Poking a couple of holes in Anthony Stark's argument:

1. The final at-large pick selected by the committee is not the worst team in the tournament, due to autobids. Wisconsin, the last at-large pick, is a #3 seed.
2. MSU won the tournament last year as a #3 seed.

Gravatar I thought we were barred from getting regionals because of what happened in 02 and 03? Good to hear otherwise.

Gravatar Brian

You really have got to quit talking about the 2007 MSU hockey team they won the title to keep arguing against their seeding just seems kind of whiney

Gravatar To all the fucks that are complaining about RR losing all his players and all the talent leaving, get a god damn clue. When Bo was hired in 1969 the team started with 150 players. After spring practice he was down to fucking 75. I don't see you guys complaining about how Bo turned out, yet people are crying out that RR is not the right man for the job. So even though we're losing players right now, just deal with it and wait for the season. We'll be fine.

Gravatar I hope that picture against the Buckeyes. Is a screen pass.

Gravatar Just out of curiousity - did the team really start with 150 players under Bo? Is that possible?

Gravatar i think so. no scholarship limits back then.

Gravatar Dammit. I didn't get to say "first" and I really wanted to since it would establish my awesome-ness over the rest of the mgoblog community.

Gravatar Weren't there roster size limits though?

Gravatar And I do love Brian's analysis of the state of the o-line under Moeller.

A friend knew Long and said he would get pissed at the rest of the o-linemen for not working their asses off to their full potential.

He did light a fire under everyone's ass for the '06 season and the results were seen on the field. Otherwise though, Long's pov was that they were content being under-achieving starters for Michigan.

Wouldn't be a stretch to assume Boren shared this mentality and wasn't happy when he couldn't maintain it.

Gravatar Note: After the loss to OSU in '06, the same friend of Long said that the previously fire seen in the o-line was replaced by a return to eating pizza's every night and drinking as much as possible... hence the Rose Bowl that year.

Gravatar bentley library lists 146 people on the 1968 roster

113 on the 1969 roster

Gravatar @chitownblue

I just read this in the previous comment thread so he probably got it from there:

Jim Betts, quarterback in 1970, remembered

"We must have started with about 150 guys when he came here. After spring practice we were down to 75 or 80. A lot of players resented Bo because he was so damn demanding. But it was a strong group who stayed."

Gravatar I'm not saying it's wrong - I'm just mind boggled by the idea of 150 people on a football team.

Gravatar Bah....as a member of the O-line brotherhood and a guy who would have given his left nut to play at Michigan, I say take your lazy ass on Boren. Hard work is a culture and a malcontent can destroy that. News flash....fat guys don't like to run! Kinda goes hand in hand with the whole fat thing. But we also don't want to be the only guy not giving 100%. I wonder if Boren can sign up with Sean Rogers's agent!

Gravatar This one time after a game at Yost I had to dodge sniper fire to get back to my house. True story.

Gravatar The conditioning at Michigan really was god-awful. I once watched Garret Rivas eat an entire large pizza from Bells in one sitting in the fall '05, after returning hammered from a sorority date party.

All linemen had to do was be big to maintain their starting rolls. see Matt Lentz. It was only from working hard on their own: see Jake Long, did a guy have the chance to be truly great and play in the NFL.

Gravatar does IUPUI get to go to Indiana football games? how about Purdue games? didnt think so.

before we get dearborn/flint students on here whining, lets not forget the fact that Ann Arbor students pay double in tuition and actually attend the University.

Gravatar Booyah Kenny

Gravatar at the same time, Rivas was a kicker. All he has to do be able to do is kick, and then do a girly celebration dance.

Gravatar And I thought this was cute:

http://autumnthunder.blogspot.co...minaton- of.html

Gravatar You also remember how Jake Long said all his training for the combine was light years ahead of what he had to do at Michigan, lifting and conditioning wise.

Gravatar I was president at Chi Phi in '05 and we actually pledged Alex Mitchell. He asked Lloyd and everything. Suffice it to say that my observations of him did not include "holy crap that guy works his ass off."

Gravatar If you frequented Skeeps or the Jug in recent years you'd know that this practice wasn't limited to Rivas

Gravatar rivas could eat whatever the fuck he wanted. he was money for us

Gravatar before we get dearborn/flint students on here whining, lets not forget the fact that Ann Arbor students pay double in tuition and actually attend the University.

Gravatar when boron the moron goes to fOSU to protect toilet paper, his little brother, boron the moron II, will also join with him.
i say fuck fOSU. bring it on biatch. we'll have toilet paper blood on the field come Nov 2009.
yea.

Gravatar Granted I'm biased with many friends and family that are faculty or students at UM-D, but the tickets in question aren't going to UM-AA students. So yeah, it's great that I paid double tuition and everything, but they're taking live bodies out of those seats for a few more old blues.

Gravatar What's the source of the belief that Boren is the kind of guy who really doesn't get along with Rodriguez or Frey? Not that it's not true, but I can't remember any firsthand reports.

Gravatar it's not really "more old blues." more likely, its the people who just lost their seats to the wheelchair renovation. they needed to go somewhere, and dearborn students were low men on the totem pole

Gravatar The hockey re-jiggering isn't necessary. Brian makes good suggestions, but proves that they work better with only past results (which is all one can do). i don't think hockey needs more math, it needs more common sense. use the math as a guideline and adjust based on common sense. top seeds get the easiest paths to the title. last year, M would rather have been a 3 seed than a 2 seed. in other words, MSU had an easier path to the title than M (and everyone else) in spite of all the evidence against them being a better team. common sense says mankato gets in ahead of Wisc. so make it so.

Gravatar Just a reminder that UM is losing several hundred season ticket holder seats as a result of the settlement between the University and the Paralyzed Veterans group.

4 rows of seats from Section 39 (NE) to Section 7 (SE) are all gone and season ticket holders (who almost all of them paid a "required seat donation" back in Jan/Feb for the right to buy season tickets later in the year) all have to be reseated, preferably in the same price section of their donation.

Don't forget that there is more change a coming, when they widen the aisles, say so long to about 2 seats per section - many with long time season ticket holders who will have to be reseated.

It is unfortunate that Flint and Dearborn students are the ones left holding the bag in this. When the cameras pan Michigan Stadium and you see shiny aluminum platforms between the entrance portals around Row 54, many of them unused, you will know exactly who to thank for having lost the opportunity to obtain season tickets.

Gravatar If that's the case, then I certainly understand it, though I don't necessarily agree with it. I know Dolla Billz needs to suckle the teat of Michigan Football until it's dry, but it's a net negative for fan atmosphere that was lacking to begin with.

Gravatar God, why do disabled people have to be so selfish?

Gravatar Fuckers already get to sit in a damn chair all day, and now they are ruining the aesthetic value of our football stadium. Ridiculous cripples.

Gravatar I'm not sure about IPFW but I do know that all the UW campuses can purchase student tickets to the UW-Madison games and the same goes for Penn State It's not like the student section at UM is overflowing, there is room. I know AA pays a lot more for tuition but they also get a lot more. I would argue that we pay extra at UMD for the UM name and I'm sure some of that money goes to things in AA because it sure as hell isnt getting used here.

Gravatar Ha Rivas. That kid was ridiculous. Can not tell you how many times I saw him with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in another out at the bar. Used to be him and Will Paul hanging out together. Good times.

Gravatar Dex I love you

Gravatar Plus, UM advertises the fact that students at all campuses can buy student tickets to AA games. For them to take that away without notice isnt right. UM doesnt invest the money into athletic programs at Dearborn and FLint like UW does at their other campuses either.

Gravatar Actually, the student section at the Big House is overflowing. Some freshmen get placed in random locations around the stadium because there are no more seats in the student section. It happened to me my first year.

Gravatar we had split season tickets my freshman year
but then tom goss stuck a halo on the stadium and all was well

Gravatar No, its not. They just need to make it bigger. Have you ever seen Beaver Stadium? It's one of the most intimidating places to play in the big ten and it's because they have abig student section.

Gravatar It's Brian mailbag response to the Boren defection that makes me keep coming back. From things I've heard from guys in the program, his take is right on the money.
Gittleson and Andy Moeller were the prgram's two worst liabilities. Lee was horrendous too, but English had the good sense to can his ass after 1 season.

Gravatar ...also, tuition @ AA is not double. More like $1500-2000 more/semester.

Gravatar Brian definitely sums this OL issue properly. If everyone that's leaving just so happens to be from an area of complaint absent a coach we didn't think much of, what reason is there to get up in arms? Boren was lackluster, as was the whole line excepting Jake. In terms of his value over a potential replacement, how much can we reasonably be talking about?

I would caution against assuming Boren has the same issue that Ciulla and Mitchell had, however. Right guard was almost an afterthought position manned by the least talented linemen we had.

Gravatar Actually, with respect to the seating issue, there is a set of standards abbreviated as the ADAAG (ADA Architectual Guidelines) that was written by the government, supposedly with some input from the public and interested parties. Seating in public venues like Michigan Stadium is a big deal. The ADAAGs require that a certain percentage of all seats be accessible. Well, in a 107,501 seat building, that is a lot of accessible seats. Accessible seats also have to have "companion" seats for non-disabled friends. When these things were being written, they didn't think about things such as lines of sight (i.e. if a spectator in front of your wheel chair seat stands up such that he blocks the view of the disabled patron, is that okay? Or, does a person in a wheelchair have to be able to see the field over a standing and cheering fan?). That, obviously, is a major consideration in either designing a new stadium or retrofitting an old one. IIRC, the wheelchair patron has to be able to see over standing fans in front. This was not made clear until after some stadiums were built in the early 1990s.

Also, obvioulsy, if you set aside disabled seating, that amount of space would otherwise be useful for more than one regular seat. What if you have a bunch of unsold disabled/companion seats? What if you also have a bunch of non-disabled people who want to buy tickets? Can you "in fill" the disabled seating areas with temproary regular seats? If so, how long before the start of the event do you have to wait? (Notre Dame in fills its seats, and this may be in violation of the ADA - the regs just aren't clear and I don't think any courts have ruled on this.) In the case of a football stadium, you could sell a few hundred more regular seats per game if you in-fill. That represents a lot of money over the lifetime of the building.

Entering into the consent decree was smart because it avoided a potentially harsher result. Also, our peer institutions are glad that we didn't saddle anyone with legal precedent on some of these issues (such as in-filling).

Gravatar those guys get to roll around all the time and get great seats, and here i am using my legs like a sucker. /Homer

there is an increasing demand for tickets. thus the price for tickets will go up. that is all i learn-ed in econ 101 at UMich for 4 credits of social science.

according to carty & the AAN, that's academic fraud.

it's just that they are pushing the low price tix out for the high price ones.

Gravatar A friend and I did a shot with Amadou Ba at Skeeps 2 years ago, right after he had pushed that drunk Izzone douchebag onto his ass. Pretty much the highlight of my college career.

Gravatar First of all, in that picture it looks like tUoOs lined up behind the M O-line. I laughed my ass off. So happy the fat slow lineman are leaving.

Secondly and off the topic, I just hope RR doesn't start bringing guys in like Pacman Jones. Did anyone hear his interview about wanting to get back into the league? He might be one of the stupidest humans of all time. When asked about why he went to strip clubs when he was told not to, he replied, "I was jus bein rebellion." I would hate to listen to interviews of guys who sound like they go to Michigan Agricultural College.

Gravatar Dex I love you too! Call me around 11. My dad won't answer this time, I promise.

Gravatar Ewwwwwwww!!! (wink wink)

Gravatar Brian, your point about the PWR sometimes setting up the Region of Death and a relatively weak region is valid, but the 2007 Spartans are not a good example of that - our path to the championship featured 3 Hockey East teams and the CCHA champ, no ECAC teams involved. Easier than Michigan's draw, to be sure (two of the three WCHA teams ended up in your region), but the East was easily the weakest of the regions that year (Clarkson-SCSU-Maine-UMass).

I agree that the PWR has some significant flaws (MSU actually moved *up* by losing to NMU while Vermont beat Northeastern, because it dropped Northeastern from the TUC list and crippled Vermont's TUC record - not that Vermont should have had the comparison in the first place, but I digress), but it might be better if you chose an example that, you know, actually illustrated those flaws.

Gravatar Man, I never get tired of the MICHIGAN MAN. Seriously, I go back through each post to see if he's put something up.

Gravatar who cares about the reduction of tickets... as long as they let the hot dog man in...

Gravatar I missed this exchange earlier, but I find it hilarious:

UMD:
It's not like the student section at UM is overflowing, there is room.

dextafun:
Actually, the student section at the Big House is overflowing. Some freshmen get placed in random locations around the stadium because there are no more seats in the student section. It happened to me my first year.

UMD:
No, its not. They just need to make it bigger.

In other words

UMD: This house isn't on fire.
dextafun: Yes, it is. I am physically burning from being inside.
UMD: It's not on fire, they just need to put it out!

In even more other words:

This is the difference between Ann Arbor and Dearborn.

Gravatar Hartigan scared me more than any college player ever has. That guy was absolutely lethal. I about had a coronary every time he stepped on the ice. I'm also shocked he hasn't turned into a better pro.

The best part about Jed's two crushing hits against SCSU was when, while the second victim was being attended to, the student section all held up 2 fingers as if it was a goal-count. Classless as all-hell, but SO funny.

One of these days, I'm getting an Ortmeyer jersey. It's disgusting that I don't have one.

Gravatar dex, that is perfect

Gravatar i thought that guy was from Minn-Duluth. UMD.

then again, when ever i see RPI, i don't immediately think Ratings %age Index.

that's a college hockey fan for ya....

Gravatar Dearborn...Duluth..who cares. I think he mentioned going to UM-Dearborn though.

Gravatar Hartigan played last night against the Blues. He got crunched in a really weird falling hit against one of their call-ups.

The Wings always bring their minor-league players along slowly, even the new acquisitions. He's got 42 points for the GR Griffins.

Gravatar Good thing I'm so arrogant.

Gravatar Aw did someone get their feelings hurt?

Gravatar dex make more blog posts!

Gravatar The WLA will be addressing the current "turmoil" in the regime when we return from our mini-vacation next week.

Gravatar Michigan Fan wrote >>>What if you also have a bunch of non-disabled people who want to buy tickets? Can you "in fill" the disabled seating areas with temproary regular seats?

Gravatar Well, Hartigan is actually 30 years old and played for Atlanta, Columbus, and Anaheim before arriving in Detroit.

He's still played less than 100 games in the NHL. I don't think it's really a case of the Wings bringing him along slowly, unfortunately. He's just nothing more than a fringe NHL player...which really blows my mind.

I have liked how he's looked with the Wings at times.

Gravatar Boren speaks and sounds pissed...

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs...S0201/ 803260444

Gravatar wtf was that all about?

Gravatar "Boren, the Wolverines' most experienced returning lineman, left the team on Monday, a day before the team's fifth spring practice under new coach Rich Rodriguez."

Couldn't handle 5 days? Gave the new coaches/staff 5 days? Come on. 5 days! Are you serious??

Gravatar This just in: Someone thinks one of the regulars at MGoblog is an arrogant asshole. In related news, water is still wet, Britney spears is still batshit insane, and the law of gravity still attracts pretty much anything within the gravitational pull of a large mass of matter.

Gravatar Couldn't handle 5 days? Gave the new coaches/staff 5 days? Come on. 5 days! Are you serious??
Maize4Blue | 03.26.08 - 4:45 pm | #

You think he's only been around Rodriguez for 5 days? That they only just met the new staff 5 days ago? Come on. 5 days! Are you serious??

Gravatar Translation of Boren's statement:

"Something something my vagina hurts please don't make me get in shape pass the monostat 7 something something."

Jebus.

Gravatar We talkin about practice, man!

Gravatar dex,

I know RR and staff have been around since January, but the fact that he was 5 days into Spring practice and decided to pull the plug is just ridiculous. What changed from 2 weeks ago let alone last month?

Gravatar Look, I'm not "defending" him. If he doesn't want to play, whatever. But listen to your argument.

"He only gave them 5 days! That's not enough!"
- Ok, so he made a rash decision in this view. I say he's been around a lot longer than that so it isn't that rash.

"Exactly! What's changed in the past month! If he didn't leave immediately, why would he now!"
-Ok, so now you are on him because he waited a while, still didn't want to be there, and left.

In the first instance, he's wrong because he decided too quick. In your second statement, he's wrong because he didn't decide quick enough.

Gravatar "Michigan football was a family, built on mutual respect and support for each other from (former) Coach (Lloyd) Carr on down. We knew it took the entire family, a team effort, and we all worked together. I have great trouble accepting that those family values have eroded in just a few months."

Translation: I much preferred the old system where I was coddled, fed pizza for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and gently suckled the wrinkled teat of old Lloyd. I can't handle having a coach who isn't my "buddy" or who raises his voice at me. Whine whine, bitch bitch, whine. The End.

Gravatar Garfunkel....amen

Gravatar Quarterback David Cone may be next....

Gravatar I was saying he supposively "bought" into the system last month or 2. RR asked this of the players. Then Boren gave it 5 days into spring practice and pulled out? Just seems weird.

I definitely didn't say he should have gotten out earlier. I think he should have atleast stayed with the team for longer than 5 spring practice days. I don't blame guys for leaving. They do what's best for them. I have no control over that.

Gravatar Antonio Bass echoes Boren's sentiments and that's why he's not playing this year

Gravatar Right now I am masturbating myself looking at this really hot blond girl wearing jeans with a hole in the butt. And also, I am pumping it up and down while looking at a flexible chinese girl with beautiful eyes and a very sexy opening.

Gravatar Hate to say it, but I think this kid will totally regret this in the years to come. If you disagree with me ask yourself this: When was the last time you regretted pushing through something difficult, and when was the last time you regretted quiting when things got tough?

Gravatar This type of thing happens all the time, in every sphere of society. Guys get complacent, used to things going a certain way. When things change, some adapt better than others. Shit happens, move on.

Gravatar http://www.mgoblue.com/football/...e.aspx? id=66476
Spring roster is up.

Gravatar oh man...i'm so tired.

Gravatar Right now I am masturbating myself looking at this really hot blond GUY with a hole in the butt. And also, I am pumping it up and down while looking at a flexible chinese DUDE with beautiful eyes and a very sexy opening.

FIXED. (Don't worry Vest, we don't sit in judgement, it's a well known fact around here that Buckeyes like the cock.)

(Oh, and getting spanked by SEC teams, too, almost forgot that.)

Gravatar @Ninja Football

Kind of what I was saying. Push through the difficult. Be rewarded.

Change happens. People move on. I agree. I will do the same.

Gravatar "Quarterback David Cone may be next...."

Well he may as well leave unless he goes Northern Colorado punter on the other qbs he won't be getting any PT.

Gravatar @Jim Harbaugh Scramble:

What you say about PT is true, but with QB depth being what it is, I'd rather have someone like him who is more limited talent-wise but will have spent months within the system than some walk-on who hasn't had the same number of reps he has. Sure, there's not much chance he gets to play, but I'd rather have him around than not.

Now, if he wants to go, fine by me, it's his decision. But really, at QB, the options are already limited.

Gravatar Look both Boren boys have left teams that had tough nosed coaches, his younger brother left a suburban school in Columbus to play for its rilvary.

Read this in the comment section of AA news.

Im thinking something about apples falling from trees.

Gravatar I hate to bring up past conflicts (although I'll never forgive Ninja for his barbarism), but I noticed a comment from before that was addressed to me, though not in a bad way. Someone suggested earlier that we should not make a big deal about "Those Who Stay" when Bo has never won a national championship. That bothers me because it's not about winning. It is a great statement about the virtuousness of loyalty and dedication. That Bo never won an NC does not negate the slogan's relevance or accuracy. He did very well as a coach anyways, especially during the surprise 1969 season after a major trnasition, and he never had any scandal. And apparently Bo did not care about winning the NC.

Gravatar Of course i have no fact to back this up, but Boren was a coddled child athlete who was pampered by his mother and father and everything was great in his white bread suburban neighborhood. He went to Michigan and Andy Moeller took him to eat pizza and Lloyd lapped on his balls and talked about how his father was a Michigan man. Now someone yells in his face and makes him run wind sprints and he cries and quits. And everything is someone else's fault.

Gravatar hey zins, nice job giving mitchell a bid. all he did was drink two cases of hamm's a night, and fail at football.

Gravatar I see for feetball team of Michigan - GREAT SUCCESS!

Gravatar Tim, you are a champion for staying on the topic for the entire day!

So people realize - this is meant in good-natured joking sort of way.

Gravatar Boren's statement certainly suggests that he flat out disliked the new staff - nothing about practice intensity.

Gravatar Apparently Boren did not like (on a personal level) the new coaches. He thought they were mostly jerks. This is a kid who could've NEVER played for a coach like Bo or Frank Kush or Woody Hayes. He is a kid who prefers "players coaches."
Well, that's not what M has anymore and if you're to much of a pussy to deal with coaches you don't like then don't let the door hit you in the ass.
Transfer to UCLA where you can play paint-ball with Neuheisel and lose 6 or 7 games every season.

Gravatar Vest....i guess it has been said before but its worth repeating...Fuck off!!

Gravatar CAUP,

I'm not saying I agree with Boren, because I have no fucking idea what was said/done by anyone. But, would you want to stay and work very closely, every single day, with a person you thought was a complete piece of shit? Especially when you could go somewhere else and do the same job? Does that make him a "pussy"?

Gravatar I'll say this - I've left jobs because I couldn't stand the people I worked with. That's all Boren is doing. I'm not taking sides - some people just don't get along. But it doesn't make him a piece of shit.

Gravatar Boren, goodbye but there's no need for a blank statement like that..."eroding family values"... what the fuck??....don;t let the door hit you kid!!

Gravatar Did anyone think Boren was the going to be the savior of the offense? That role is reserved for Doug Dutch....

I only said to start the Doug Dutch is misused vs. Doug Dutch is crap argument.

Gravatar You'll never make it through my interview Justin...you WILL regret this.

Gravatar Cone possibly transferring might not seem like a big deal, but, an injury to Threet means that you are left with a walk on (Sheridan) and a true freshman (Feagin) on the depth chart who wasn't even getting scholarship offers to be a QB at other schools.

I've always been lukewarm to the RR hire. I'm taking a wait and see approach. I'm not convinced that he is the right fit for us, or, that he will be around all that long.

Gravatar Two scenarios: 1) Boren is a slow, lazy marshmellow who couldn't stand the heat and it is probably for the best that he leave or 2)he is a man of integrity who sees it lacking in his new coaching staff to such a point that he is willing to sit out a year in order to leave the program. I hope it is the first.

Gravatar Forgive me for asking, but who is the "right fit" for "us"???

Maybe we should've taken Ferentz.

Gravatar Link on the 2010 and 2011 regional bids?

Gravatar Mgobleu,

Maybe you and others shouldn't be so quick as to jump on the bandwagon of a man that we know next to nothing about. All I'm saying is that we should be careful about trashing a kid when we don't know whats going on.
"Sailor" Bill fucked up the coaching search. Believe whatever you want, but, Rodriguez wasn't the first choice (or the second or third, for that matter) for head coaching position no matter what some people have said. The Herbstreit debacle that fateful Saturday morning hurt UM's chances of landing Miles more than we will ever know.

Gravatar Making some lose statements about lack of family values is PR bullshit, if you are so concerned about saving your ass come out and tell everybody what the actual deal is.

Him making thinly veiled insults only acts to increase the perception that he quit!!

Its okay to go away..but giving some BS on the way out to save yourself is stupid!!

Gravatar Original C,

I happen to agree with you on that. Boren should've either spelled out exactly what was wrong, or, just leave quitely. Throwing your ex-coaches under the bus publicly doesn't say much for your decision making skills. In the real world, when you leave a job because you are unhappy, you don't bad mouth your ex-boss on the way out.

Gravatar JAy, your are very much entitled to your opinions but i have to severely disagree with you on this one...i was a big Miles supporter but i think RRod is exactly what this program needed...house cleaning and a firm kick in the butt. And come to think of it, Miles would have done exactly the same thing, except he would have been viewed as a Michigan Man and things would have been forgiven!

Gravatar I think RR wasn't the first choice because no one considered it an option. Ferentz and Miles had long been regarded as possible candidates and Schiano was assumed to be looking for greener pastures. RR seemed set in WVU and by not going to Alabama, I assumed he was a 'Neer for life. I wonder if an RR insider told UM that he would be interested and UM had not even imagined it was possible until then. This is conjecture though.

Gravatar Sometimes i wish that Al Gore had never invented the Internets, we could have saved ourselves from all this hand wringing!!

Gravatar Hi Original C,

I'm not saying Rich Rod wasn't the right hire. You could very well be right and it could end up being exactly what this program needed. Of course, I hope that this is the case. I just need to see some things first before I jump on board completely with the Rich Rod hire.

Gravatar Notice how most of the defections have come from the offense? For my two cents worth, I imagine that RR, to accomplish turning this team into a spread team, he needs to reprogram the players football hardware....similar to taking a civilian and changing their mindset to that of a soldier. The military does this with Basic Training. Because as a new soldier, you need to be indoctrinated to Army life and beliefs, and most importantly, instinctively know how to react in combat. Drill seargents break you down, mentally and physically. They are demanding, mean, push you past your limits. Once they have broken you down, they build you back up. I hated my drill seargents because I thought they were just plain stupid, mean and rude, but by the end of basic, the light bulb came on and I really understood the need for the methods. If I can indulge this simile/metaphor, RR has to break them (offensive players especially) down and build them back up within his system. Boren just quit in the breaking-down process. I am sure if he would have seen it through he would not have those same thoughts about the program in the end.

Gravatar Jay there is a possibility that we could tank...you never know..but his record is excellent and seems to have a great plan/vision and more importantly the energy to implement it!!

Gravatar Boren's comments undermined the team, there isn't much integrity in that.
(I mean, he's got everyone second guessing the staff now)

Maybe if there'd been a similar player exodus from WV, it would be a bit easier to understand.

Gravatar All that Boren's BS has done is give more ammunition to jerks like Carty/AssSharpe/Valenti to rip into our program!!

Gravatar Keegan,

From what I was told, the Rich Rod hire wouldn't have happened had without Don Nehlen. He was the force behind this. He and Martin spoke about the possibility of Rich Rod before Martin ever spoke with RR himself. It was just to gauge whether or not RR would have any interest in interviewing if he was asked to. Actually, someone in the UM athletic department first spoke with Nehlen soon after the Monday morning presser after the OSU game when Lyoyd made his retirement public.

Gravatar Tim, you are a champion for staying on the topic for the entire day!

Haha well done! I just missed your comment earlier, so I felt the need to respond.

Gravatar I was willing to give Boren the benefit of the doubt until that dumbass statement.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHH SEEYA

Gravatar link to RR presser http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm? f...ideoid=31122579

Gravatar @Wayman:

What barbarism? If I attacked you I don't know it.

As for all the chicken littles out there- who are you going to trust more- a 20 year old kid who had a starting job and is now leaving the program after he admittedly was having culture shock but makes vague references to "family" and the old guard....

OR

....A coach who has been successful wherever he went, often times molding sub-par talent into successful teams?

Call me crazy, but last time I checked I'm going with the coach. Especially when everyone in our fan base has been frustrated with our predictable offense (9th in the Big 10 last year) and our chronic under achievement.

Gravatar I tend to eschew speculation, but I actually find the thing about Justin fucking Boren not liking the f-bomb to be credible. I don't know why. He might be alluding to the swearing with his family values comment. Then again, Lloyd Carr was more of a father figure, so it could just be his departure, but I don't think so. We will find out more in the coming days as people close to the team report on what they heard.

Gravatar I think you know exactly what I'm talking about...Joey.

Gravatar The thing that strikes me is that his dad is signing off on it. He played for Bo for God's sake- where do you think Miles learned his hard-ass ways? Anyone who gets offended by the use of the F-Bomb by coaches needs to go hang out with Tebow and wait for marriage to lose his virginity.

Gravatar 10+ pts if you get that reference. I was joking, Ninja. I am just a little anxious about ninja attacks.

Gravatar If he is offended by F-bombs, what the hell is he doing playing Big Ten football?

Gravatar Joey? Huh? Wtf? I'm totally confused. I thought maybe I'd been handle-jacked and someone ripped on you, but I don't even see that. And I mean that in a good-spirited way, I'm totally lost.

Gravatar 10+ pts if you get that reference. I was joking, Ninja. I am just a little anxious about ninja attacks.

Well, everyone's right to be concerned about my random attacks, just don't call me for a phone number without a pen. I'll be forced to unleash a verbal nuke on the stupidity.

As for the reference, Ninja =FAIL.

Gravatar "Note: After the loss to OSU in '06, the same friend of Long said that the previously fire seen in the o-line was replaced by a return to eating pizza's every night and drinking as much as possible... hence the Rose Bowl that year.
Nick Stadts | 03.26.08 - 1:31 pm |"

I call BS. Long wouldn't have returned to an OL or team that you describe, he would have headed to the NFL.

Boren left because he thinks RR is a jerk that has nothing to do with the Michigan tradition, including the tradition his father learned under Bo. He loved the Michigan he came to and not the one he's leaving.

You all can continue to comfort yourself that it's about work ethic and conditioning. And you all would be wrong.

Gravatar Seattle Blue, reprogramming is one part of what's going on. Bo was known for that, Carr was known for that among his players (unless you have missed the countless players who have talked about their transformation). But there is a difference between being just an ass and a hard ass.

Gravatar @Blue23:

I'll assume you're know Boren personally and have talked to him or have spent time with the team during Spring Ball so you know these things for a fact...

OR

I'll chalk your opinion up to mere speculation, the same as everyone else on this board.

Me thinks I'm picking the second choice.

Gravatar Couple items:

I would like Boren to be more specific about the lack of integrity and family at Michigan, but perhaps in time he'll reveal the problems (if they exist). He's transfered and it's over with.

As for Antonio Bass - he suffered a catastrophic knee injury a few years ago, long before RR, and it was widely rumored he wasn't ever coming back. Is there something I'm missing.

UM Dearborn/UM Flint students. Sorry, if you want to be part of the UM Ann Arbor, do better in high school, score higher on your ACT, and get into the ann arbor campus and deal with my professors and peers. You don't hear UCSB students saying they go to Cal Berkley or UCLA, do you?
And as an alum, I would like Michigan tickets. I stayed at the UM/tOSU debacle this year, and while most Michigan STUDENTS had left to get even more hammered, I stayed to support the team, and lost my voice. So not all of the alumni sit on their ass and don't make noise.

Before anyone panics, just look at the schedule. Utah, Miami(OH),Toledo, Purdue, MSU, NW and Minnesota should all be pretty sure things. And then you look at ND and Illinois, and 9 wins isn't unreasonable. And that is with Threet/Sheridan/Feagen/Cone/ or Britton/Kapsner/Loeffler (couldn't resist throwing out those guys) at QB.

Gravatar @ sebcoe:

The Bass stuff is a long running joke around here, someone's always asking about his status, and it gives us over-obsessive nerds a chance to rag on them. Understandable you'd miss this as I'd guess you're not an over-obsessive nerd.

9 wins is WAY doable, everyone's been conditioned to expect the worst as that's what we've been putting out during our years of eating pizza as a form of conditioning and laying huge eggs like the minnesota game in '05.

Gravatar sebcoe,

Sadly, Antonio Bass's career ended up being career-ending; RR announced in early February that he was no longer on the team.

Ninja,

I was referring to History of Violence. It was an okay movie.

Gravatar Bass is still on scholarship, he is on course to obtaining a degree..however worthless that degree might be!!

Gravatar Medical scholarship that is...doesn't count against the 85 limit!!

Gravatar God that Boren statement makes me sick. I'm so disappointed in the guy. Seriously, it's so easy to read right through it and conclude "eeeee change scary bye! i like family and marshmellow slumber parties and easy practices!"

THIS IS DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL! IT'S THE BIG TEN! IT AINT INTRAMURALS!! WE'RE GETTING BUMMED OUT BECAUSE WE HAVE TO PRACTICE A LITTLE HARDER?

GO PLAY INTRAMURALS BROTHER....GO PLAY INTRAMURALS

Gravatar Tim,
The fuck scenes in History of Violence are insane. God, that chick is hot.

Gravatar Anyone have Boren's adress? I just picked up a tube of Vagisil at the local CVS and would like to donate it to help his aching vagina.

Gravatar "UM Dearborn/UM Flint students. Sorry, if you want to be part of the UM Ann Arbor, do better in high school, score higher on your ACT, and get into the ann arbor campus and deal with my professors and peers."

I have to disagree with this point because some people go to UMD or UMF simply because they cannot afford to go to UM or are forced to commute to class because of jobs/kids/what have you.

Gravatar This place has become very weird.

Gravatar It's maybe not that we can't afford or are borderline retarded like many of you would like to believe but UMd is a great deal. I have several professors who also teach at Ross.

There are other reasons to go to UMd or UMf. Believe it or not there are some programs offered at Dearborn and Flint that aren't at AA.

Those STUDENTS left at the OSU game were all from UMd and UMf. You would be surprised how many of us there are. Tell Mary Sue to take the UM name off the schools if you dont like them so much or have her invest some money in athletics over here so we have something to do.

Gravatar Personally I don't give a shit what glorified community college you go to, so whatever, and I highly doubt "all", "a lot", or even "almost half" of the students left at the OSU game were students from the little cousin schools.

Gravatar As a UM-F grad I just want to say that I would have greatly preferred to go to Ann Arbor but my program was not offered there (and just for the record I was accepted to Ann Arbor). As a result of Ann Arbor not offering an undergrad degree (social work) I drove 70 miles one way to Flint to get my degree.

Oh well, I guess I could have done what some of my friends did which is graduate from Ann Arbor with a BA in Sociology or Psychology to then have to complete 4 more years of schooling to get a MSW. With my "lessor" degree from UM-F I got my Master's degree in two with advanced standing.

Gravatar Why does everyone on this board think Notre Dame is going to be a walk over? 1st road game for a new QB, green OL, inexperienced WR's, and new coach. I see us more Circa 1997 ND with a slim chance of finishing .500, much better in 2009 and elite by 2010.

Gravatar @Shelby TWP

(Speaking strictly from my POV)I'd say that most fans here think ND is going to be a pushover because FAT Charlie can't coach.

Gravatar Does RR know what conference he's in?

Gravatar www.clublez.com

Best website on the net and its free.

Gravatar Maybe he can maybe he can't, but I'm not as sold on the scenario as rest of the folks. We've beaten them a couple of times they have beaten us a couple of time (not like we've dominated the series ala PSU).

Utah scares me most of all!!!!!!!!

Gravatar I posted this on the previous thread, but I'm posting it again because nobody read it there:

Attitudes of Michigan fans after the '08 season based on record:

Worse than 7-5: FIRE RICH ROD!
7-5: A rough transition, but we'll get better.
8-4: The best we could have reasonably expected.
9-3: Suprisingly good. RichRod can coach.
10-2: Whast an amazing year! The RR era is going to be awesome!
11-1, with the loss coming to somebody other than Ohio State: OMG, let's all worship Rich Rod!
11-1, with the loss coming to Ohio State: FIRE RICH ROD!

Gravatar @ Shelby Township:
Because Three & Out Jesus is an arrogant guy with no people skills who refuses to acknowledge he's coaching college kids as opposed to professionals, thereby insisting they learn a system too complicated for them and dooming them to failure.

Oh, and there's a 1:4 shot he'll run out of Twinkies and eat his QB.

Gravatar @Bursley

Have to disagree with you - most (sane) M fans are expecting to lose to OSU this year (game in Cow-lumbus, Tressel owns us, RR doesn't know what conference he is in, new system, new players, OSU returns a team that just went to the NC game).

I think the idea that Michigan is banned from hosting regionals due to fan behavior is a myth. The fact is that the NCAA wants to move the regionals to neutral sites where they can.

Gravatar I want to believe in RR but I wouldn't have scripted this start. I'm not conviced the spread "read" option is sustainable. I worry (ala Lions and the West Coast Offense) we joined the spread option train too late instead of getting a true M man. Our team had a persona, our team had a aura, now I'm not sure what we bring to the table.

Gravatar boys -- get to work.

The Wolf and Jimmie turn, heading for the bedroom, leaving Boren and Jules standing in the kitchen.
BOREN:(calling after him) A "please" would be nice.

The Wolf stops and turns around.
THE WOLF: Come again?
BOREN: I said a "please" would be nice.

THE WOLF: Set is straight, Buster. I'm not here to say "please." I'm here to tell you want to do. And if self-preservation is an instinct you
possess, you better fuckin' do it
and do it quick. I'm here to help.
If my help's not appreciated, lotsa
luck gentlemen.
BOREN:I don't mean any disrespect. I
just don't like people barkin' orders at me.

THE WOLF:If I'm curt with you, it's because time is a factor. I think fast, I talk fast, and I need you guys to act fast if you want to get out of this. So pretty please, with sugar on top, clean the fuckin' car.

Gravatar What the hell does that mean?

We are looking up at (painfull as it is) at OSU. If M had played in the big least, with WVU's schedule, we would have been undefeated and playing for the mythical national championship. I'm still not convinced these tactics will work in conference. Appy St pains me but it should have served more of a wake up call instead of a shake up call. I am positive that Appy St would not have laid a whoppin on Florida the way we did. Had the program played with the same passion against Appy St as they did against FL, the score would have been MUCH DIFFERENT!

Gravatar pulp - hilarious.

Gravatar Here is my take on the whole ticket issue. The tickets are being taken from the students and given to alumni who like to donate money.

This is short a shortsighted move IMO. I pay almost 40k a year to go to U of M, with little to no financial help. I pay an increasing amount of money every year for tickets to sporting events, and then they start taking tickets away (not from me directly, but the student populus in general).

The problem is, when U of M wants a donation in 10 years to fund some building project or research endeavor, I'm going to remember the 10s of thousands of dollars in student loans I'll have, and all the other small things that MSC and BM have done to squeeze me dry. I'll turn around and ask U of M what they did for me, at which point I'll hear ".........*silence*.......". It is a great degree, and a great school which is why I put myself through this to go here. But the practices of MSC and other administrators is way to focused on the present. I feel if things continue like this, it'll all backfire in the end.

Gravatar wow, how weird... i was just typing a response to Bursely on the old post (literally, in the minutes that he decided to re-post here)... says something about connection.... I was thinking intensely about what he wrote; he decided to re-post what he wrote but that nobody saw at the end of the last post...

Gravatar LOL @ Bursley... amusing, but you forgot the 12s and the 13...

12-1 with loss coming to somebody other than tOSU (that is, victory over tOSU); OMG let's double worship RR.

12-1 (or even 6-6) with victory over tOSU but the victory over tOSU keeps tOSU out of NC game (a la Pitt vs. WVA in '07), then triple worship RR and he gets' two free extra years...

more to be typed....
wednesday THAT name | 03.26.08 - 10:40 pm | #

Gravatar Go 12-1 (but lose to tOSU), then many variable... if tOSU wins NC, then RR an inferior God with hopes for the future.

Go 12-1 but lose to tOSU but tOSU has another 2006 NC game, then RR a very inferior God and he better have won his bowl game (otherwise, the just-like-Lloyd complaints will begin and the Myles Mafia will stage a palace coup)....

Go 12-1 but lose ot tOSU and they just go to another BCS bowl, depends a bit on the win-loss during the bowls... RR's a God in general, more of a God if MI wins, but tOSU loses; less than a God if vice versa... meh on God-hood if double bowl wins or double bowl losses....

Gravatar Well, okay, there may be an hour difference, but still kinda weird that there was a repost... anyhoooooo....

Gravatar If RR goes 13-0.... hmm... wow, really really can't imagine where this board goes? Happiness; but i can also see crying and screaming; apologies; prayers; building expectations reaching beyond the sun's orbit; recriminations; knives drawn and traitors punished ("Brian, you doubted Martin!!!! 'Sailboat Billy' you claimed ....") ... maybe MI gives RR a contract extension of 10 years and $30 million?

Gravatar yeah, you know where i'm going...

Gravatar To UM F and D: Go back to Wal-mart.

Gravatar I repeat and repost (from my earlier comment that drew no response).... it's simple... we know NOTHING right now... not until Utah (and really, not until the ND game) will we really be able to say ANYTHING about RR, Boren or everything else that is new ... (BTW, don't forget the whole new stadium thing; new sound, new look... is the new Big House even ready by August '08?...)... if it's 3-0 or 2-1 or 1-2 or 0-3 by the date of the Wisc. game, each of those says volumes....

Gravatar Michigan goes 13-0: RR is in fact the football manifestation of Red Berensen

Gravatar Honestly not trying to flame here but how does spread off work in the likes of Madison/Columbus & AA during the inclimate wet & sloppy periods of late Oct/Nov? ..can that be an issue?
RR & WVU didn't have that problem but may up here

Gravatar Hey guys, please don't take my departure personally. I love Michigan, but TP told me that Tressel has no gag reflex. He said he loves me just the way I am.

Gravatar Berenson, I assume you mean... curious how many MI fans will admit to NOT instantly knowing who Berenson is... big grin...

Gravatar interesting differences between Berenson and Moeller with the same "problem"; one fired; one still coaching...

Gravatar several final thoughts for the "chicken littles".... it is rare (at least lately) for the first year coach of a good-to-great program to suffer a truly disasterous season his first year... it took Weis three years to be totally exposed as a fraud; same with Callahan at Neb.... so, potentially, the jury will be out on RR for 2-3 years... the opposite trend is just as interesting... Miles, evil Meyer, etc.

and speaking of Weis... @JHS... you said:

@Shelby TWP

(Speaking strictly from my POV)I'd say that most fans here think ND is going to be a pushover because FAT Charlie can't coach.
Jim Harbaugh Scramble | 03.26.08 - 9:03 pm | #

I 100% agree; bascially, 2007 proved it; if this whole board can be this upset about Boren losing and be this concerned about the O-line, then RR for sure is concerned.... if RR is "concerned" then he has knowledge; knowledge will presumably lead RR to work on developing his freshmen, sophs and juniors to make sure he can be ready for 2009; likewise, knowledge will presumably mean that RR will spend extra time recruiting O-linemen.

The previous statements prove that Weis is NOT a good coach. If we can see this problem with MI, then CW SHOULD have seen the alleged "bare cupboard" that was left by Willingham; consequently, CW should have planned for the problem [the ND O-line was a HUGE problem in '07 and will continue to be]... CW obviously did NOT plan ahead... a decent coach goes 6-6 to 8-4; a BAD coach loses to Navy for the first time in 43 years...

now, the CW lesson for MI and RR: if we see that RR recuits NO O-linemen in the '09 class, then RR is like CW... if we see RR doing things to compensate for the O-line problem, then RR is doing "good" and doing what is expected ...

Boren is imminently replaceable... MI does NOT have a ND O-line problem....

Gravatar Wednesday -

Nice post, hope you stick around here and continue to add insight.

Gravatar Holy crap, the same person has the last like 27 posts here.

Gravatar WTF BOREN?!? it really was the cussing that made you leave??? F-U THEN. If you can't take the verbal abuse then you're in the wrong motherfucking sport. go play golf or tennis you big wussie. 'Not swearing' might be a 'family value' but so is 'not quitting on your team'

At first I thought maybe there was something wrong with what RR was doing to turn you into a quitter. But it turns out Lloyd wasn't swearing enough at your lazy asses.

Thanks for playing, don't let the door hit you on your lazy/whiny/soft/mangina ass.

You quit over words. Words. Not an injury, not playing time, not a difference in offensive philosophy, not academics. Words. Jesus fucking christ. goodbye, good riddance.

Gravatar let's take a bite out of crime.
woof!

Gravatar bell's pizza is screwed.

Gravatar No man who would ever consider going to tOSU is not a Michigan man. Get his fat ass the fuck out of here.

Gravatar lentz was with the Giants for awhile...FYI

Gravatar Our team had a persona, our team had a aura, now I'm not sure what we bring to the table.

Our aura lost 34-32 to App. State and 500-6 against Oregon.

Yes, if we would have "played with passion" we would have maybe won, but then again, we didn't, and in reality world where we pay attention to things that actually happened, we lost the game. To a 1-AA team.

So yay, go aura! Way to intimidate those scrappy underdogs right out of the stadium, and into a throbbing mass of riotous fans overjoyed at our loss! They sure were scared of our aura!

Gravatar Gsimms, you need to do a post explaining that the "spread" isn't some mythical, fantasy beast of super offense that can only be run one certain way, and show these commoners that it's only a formation. And that the weather isn't going to matter.

Gravatar If M had played in the big least, with WVU's schedule, we would have been undefeated and playing for the mythical national championship.

So the team that lost, at home, to both App. State and Oregon would have easily ran the table against Cincinatti, South Florida, and Rutgers. Now, if we didn't have to play WVU (and since we are taking their spot in your ridiculous scenario I assume we do not) then maybe we would have only lost 1-2 games.

But, what if last year's Michigan team had played WVU? Eh? EH? Would our aura have scared Pat White into crumbling to tears on the field, like it did Armanti Edwards and Dennis Dixon?

I'm a Carr guy and an "enabler", but even I am sane enough to remember that we actually did lose to App. State, it was closer than it probably should have been, and there was precious little from that game that makes me think it was a fluke. No, they probably wouldn't have beaten Florida, but that says more about Florida being prepared to play their games than it does us.

Gravatar No man who would ever consider going to tOSU is not a Michigan man. Get his fat ass the fuck out of here.
John | 03.27.08 - 8:29 am | #

We're probably going to have kick a few more of our better players off the team then.

I'm thinking even Charles Woodson might have considered OSU for a minute or two, since he was from OH.

Gravatar why are we concerned about weather affecting the spread offense? does it not get cold and wet in west virginia, ohio, pennsylvania, new jersey, kentucky, etc.?

Gravatar yo, John... most of the team CONSIDERED going to OSU.

Gravatar Haven't you heard that if you tell the ref before the game that you run the spread offense, he spots you 15 points and lets your players play in jet packs? Or is that only in the Big Least?

Gravatar @Dex

Is it possible to like Carr as a leader, but not as your coach?

I've always liked and respected him for everything he does, and the way he ran the program (clean)...but I couldn't stand his "gameday philosophies"...

And I CAN'T STAND the fact that teams aren't intimidated to play in our house anymore.

Gravatar Scout has rumors of a QB transfer. Someone want to share the name?

Gravatar If it's not Threet (which it can't possibly be) then I don't think I even care.

Gravatar Or do you mean someone is transferring to UM? Pat White?

Gravatar @Dex

Is it possible to like Carr as a leader, but not as your coach?

Totally, I understood why people weren't pleased with him as a coach. My arguments were usually with the "OMG Carr is the worst coach ever!" people. I wasn't going after him today or anything, just pointing out that even as a known apologist I didn't excuse the loss to ASU as bad as the guy I was responding to still is.

I always did and always will love Lloyd, but it was time for a change certainly.

Gravatar I was assuming it was an incoming transfer, but I suppose it could be Threet, Cone, or Sheridan heading out.

Gravatar People were talking about Cone transferring yesterday, maybe that's it?

Gravatar Does Jermaine Gonzalez still have eligibility? I wonder how he fits into Beilein's system, too, while I'm thinking about it.

Gravatar why are we concerned about weather affecting the spread offense? does it not get cold and wet in west virginia, ohio, pennsylvania, new jersey, kentucky, etc.?
stewie | 03.27.08 - 9:34 am | #

It is sunny and 70 year round in West Virginia, how do you not know that?

Also, and this is an obscure fact but true, once the weather dips below 30 it is physically impossible to throw a pass or execute a handoff in any other manner than "dive into the line straight". The air changes so much the ball is incapable of moving in any other direction. So we're fucked. The Wizard better learn to read the weather report right after he finally figures out what conference he is in!

Gravatar I heard The Wizard was going to use his magical powers to alter the weather. Thank goodness. This winter was brutal.

Gravatar The Appy St. loss is clearly inexcusable, and a blot on Carr's resume.

But I don't really agree with the people that constantly talk about how Michigan under-performed under Carr. SMQ had a good piece that compared, over the past 8 (I think it was eight?) years, the aggregate recruit ranking of all the classes the school took in, and their aggregate winning percentage from said classes. Michigan had, I think, the 10th best recruiting over this time, and the 9th best winning percentage. So - we pretty much did what we should have.

Gravatar I stumbled across this on Rivals - it was a Boren presser from 3/17. It's odd - he actually goes out of his way to praise Barwis.

"On whether he's going to play any center: "I take snaps at center, [but] think they want [redshirt freshman David Molk]. They want me to play guard, and hopefully Molk or [redshirt junior Tim] McAvoy, one of those guys will step up. But I take snaps every day, and I'm comfortable enough I could step in there. I know the offense good enough I could play center right now if I had to."

On the first spring practice for the linemen: "It was ugly. It's one thing knowing about it in the meeting room and understanding it, then getting out on the field and you've got 11 guys on defense moving around and blitzing and all that … it's a lot harder. That's going to take some time getting used to. Hopefully, by the end of the spring we'll be all right.

Wolverine Photo

Justin Boren

On training with new strength coach Mike Barwis: "We were with Coach Barwis from the day they got here and we broke off in different groups. At first it was real different. We weren't used to that type of training, his type of lifts and the atmosphere in the weight room, but after a couple weeks everyone bought in and it was a real positive winter.

"He basically runs everything and it's a lot more intense. The lifts are a lot different. It was all machines before – we didn't do any power lifts besides bench. Just the day to day things - we run and lift on some days when we used to just lift, and we have speed and agility on some days when we used to just run. It's just a different schedule.

"He's one of those guys on the outside if you would watch him you'd say, man, he's intense. But if you get to talk to him and stuff he's a great guy. A lot of the guys are very close to him."

On the difference from other springs: "It was different having all the different coaches there. We were used to the coaches we had the previous year. You'd go out there and you know those coaches know who they have, a lot of the older guys aren't as involved in spring practice. This year everyone is out to prove to the coaches what they can do. That's the biggest difference … kind of getting to know your coach. A coach in the meeting room is going to be different than a coach on the field.

"They are real intense. They are real involved in the practice. I think it's just going to take a little getting used to. Definitely there's been anxiety since the beginning on different aspects, and I think practice is just another step to that. We basically have to learn the system and come together as a unit. I think we are on the right track. It was ugly at times, but hopefully next practice will be a little less anxious and better.

"I saw the guys getting better at the end of practice. Guys who hadn't played before towards the end were understanding things better and learning what to do."

On whether he feels like he

Gravatar On whether he feels like he's evolved as a leader: "Definitely. Last year Chad [Henne] was the leader … now this year you look around and Jake [Long], Chad and Mike [Hart] aren't there, you've got to step up and people are looking at you to be the leader. I think it will be a good challenge."

On how long before the offensive linemen become comfortable with the new system: "I would say by the end of spring ball we'll get comfortable with it. We'll get better as time goes on, but it's tough. When I came here early I got thrown into a whole new system. It's basically like we're all freshmen again. It's a whole new system; the only difference is everyone is in the same boat so we're kind of going to learn at the same pace."

On the difference in playing center in this system: "Most of it is we're in shotgun 90 percent of the time. That's the big difference. The steps are different. We both ran zone schemes, but they are completely different zone schemes."

The spread option is slightly different from the power formation's "3 yds and a cloud of dust," so I guess the question is more about whether it is hard to run the option in the cold weather. I bet gsims knows a whole lot more than I do, but I don't see how it could be much harder.

Gravatar Boren family values:

1) Bad people say bad words? Quit!

2) Work too hard? Quit!

3) Quit? Run straight to former hated rival!

Great move! Even if we can't outrecruit or outscheme tUOS, we should be able to outwork them... Soft pickups like Boren will make it easier.

Gravatar Tim, to bolster your case - Air Force, in Colorado Springs, runs a run-based option. I think it snows there, right?

Gravatar ColsWolverine - you need to understand that just because someone's actions don't align with what you want, it doesn't make them weak, or an asshole. If the kid wasn't happy, for whatever reason, Michigan wasn't the place for him. That's all.

Gravatar Notre Dame also used to run the option like crazy. So did, uh...MICHIGAN.

Gravatar Notre Dame also used to run the option like crazy. So did, uh...MICHIGAN.

Blasphemy.

Gravatar I forgot though, despite universal global warming, Michigan is actually getting colder. When Michigan ran the option, it was like 95 degrees with palm trees.

Gravatar ColsWolverine Family Values

1. Two sides to one issue? Impossible!

2. Don't want to play for my favorite team? Cocksucking homosexual!

3. Baseless rumors, sketchy statements, and vague innuendo? Gospel truth!

Great work! If we can't think critically about an issue for more than two seconds, we sure can resort to ridiculous hyperbole and absolutes! Weak minds will make this easier!

Gravatar Didn't call him an asshole... Life is hard and situations (for all of us) aren't always ideal. Someone who trumpets "values" as a reason to leave should "value" commitments made to Michigan and his team. Rodriguez was wise to realize quitting isn't a value he wants to foster in his locker room.

Gravatar I would say that's a fair assumption, chitownblue. WV gets pretty cold too. And of the Big 10 schools that run the run-based spread, Illinois was pretty good this year, and their QB couldn't throw.

Side note: I love playing with Navy and the triple option on NCAA 08. I think that it will be interesting to see if Paul Johnson can get anything going at GA Tech. I used to be very big on him and was pissed that we passed him up. I don't know how much I agree that his system is totally unproven: he completely changed around Navy, but does it work in the BCS? I came to realize that we don't know if he can recruit, and he has virtually no ties to the Midwest.

Gravatar You're twisting reality to suit your purposes - it's not like Rodriguez kicked him out, so your last statement is gibberish.

Also, Boren committed to a different coaching staff. Isn't it vaguely reasonable to say that if a kid hates his new coaches, then maybe staying isn't the best thing for everyone involved? Everything I read suggests that Boren is a quiet, reserved kid. Maybe he doesn't respond well to more in-your-face motivational tactics.

If you want to fault him, the only thing I can think of is to say that his statement in the press was unneccesary and showed immaturity.

Gravatar IN THIS EPISODE, NINJA HELPS THE LESS FORTUNATE OF THE WORLD, aka JUSTIN FUCKING BOREN (with help from our good friend Sally Struthers)

Btw, I recommend visual earmuffs for those who do not enjoy certain crude humor. You've been warned. Carry on.

So I was sitting at work on Wednesday when I got a call from Sally Struthers, and I said

"Holy shit! It's Sally Struthers!"

Which is weird because Sally Struthers and I are BFFs and she calls me all the time (we both belong to Oprah's Book Club) but on Wednesday Sally was all business.

She said "Joshua, I called today because I wanted to know if you could help out some children in Africa."

So I asked Sally Struthers,

"Will this make me feel better about myself, or just help them? And more importantly, will it cut into my MGoBlog browsing time?"

She said it would, and it wouldn't, so I said

"Sweet! sign me up!"

So Sally Struthers said it would cost about the same as a cup of coffee a day, at which point I said

"Would that be a cup of instant coffee, or a Vente double white chocolate mocha with a shot of that almond syrup, skim, no whip, heated to about 120 degrees so I don't burn my mouth?"

...which is also weird, because I don't drink coffee. Sally Struthers said instant- for the price of the other I could buy the kid a cow, 30 acres of corn and a combine, and I thought to myself

"Self, how's a cow supposed to drive a combine to Africa?"

Then I wondered if a cow would be offended by all the burger joints he'd pass on his way, and figured this would probably cause the cow to get his panties in a bunch, because I know if I was driving a combine to Africa and had to pass a bunch of places selling Joshua Burgers my panties would end up in a bunch. And if the cow got his panties in a bunch, this would probably cause a certain discomfort. So then I said to Sally, I said

"Sally, I don't want to be the cause of a fat cow with an aching vagina, I'd rather HELP a fat cow with an aching vagina."

So Sally Struthers and I put our heads together, and I think we came up with a solution: sometime this week Sally Struthers will deliver a tube of Vagisil to Justin Boren, whatever size she can get for "about the price of a cup of coffee".

Sally Struthers, I thank you, and Justin Boren thanks you. (CAll ME!)

Gravatar Lovely

Gravatar dex,

You are the Mr. Clean of this board. Thank you.

Mr. Clean = sense of logic and reason.

Gravatar Somehow the Justin Boren debate now involves Sally Struthers.

Gravatar Dex, seriously? The kid is quoted to complain about running back to the line in a no-huddle offense. Boren seems to be right about one thing - the values Bo instilled have been diluted:

"I can honestly say we did not lose a guy who really could have helped us. I didn't lose any sleep over anyone who quit that spring of 1969."

Point is - quitting due to differing "values" is still quitting -Rodriguez was hired to change the culture at Michigan. Coddling players whose sensibilities are hurt doesn't support the new program or coach.

Gravatar @ Ninja

Was that based on the southpark episode where cartman end up eating all the food at the refugee camp in africa...

Gravatar And for the record I'm sure the kid is doing what he thinks is right, and that he's hard working, etc. But the joke doesn't work as well with that.

Everyone who's freaking the F out needs to remember where we're coming from as a program, and realize that if you want changes it will involve, WAIT FOR IT............CHANGE. Yup, profound words from the logical Ninja. Relax people, we'll be fine.

Gravatar Cols - read his presser that I posted further up the thread. HE PRAISED THE CONDITIONING PRACTICES. He was cited as being an overachiever during conditioning!

If you'd stop obsessing about a quote he gave 2 weeks ago, and actually read what he have as a reason for leaving, it's clear that he flat-out dislikes the coaching staff, and probably thinks they're shitty people. I'm not saying I agree with him - I have no clue, obviously. But still, if you're searching for reasons why he left, why don't you start with the one he gave you?

Gravatar Ninja, I agree we'll be fine. I just find it objectionable when people go out of their way to bash a kid because he's doing what's best for him, and not for us, the faceless fans. This isn't aimed at you - your Sall Struthers post is obviously way too out there to be taken seriously.

Gravatar As has always been my battle in this land of mgoblog, Cols, I take issue with the basic premises of your statements.

While you say he didn't want to run, chitown provided 8 paragraphs of Boren praising the new training regime and not complaining at all.

Justin Boren has played football his entire life, and no doubt probably had designs on at least testing the NFL. There is no way, No. Way. At. All. that this was a snap decision on his part, or something so black and white as "I dont want to run". It's impossible. Humans don't do that.

But yet you want to boil this down to just that. All I'm saying is, Boren probably put a lot of thought into this decision and right or wrong, it was more in-depth than "Coach Rod is a meanie" or "Mr. Barwis made me run!". He isn't 6 years old.

When you drag any discussion of the matter down into those depths just so you can call him a pussy or something else, it dilutes the conversation and makes you sound like a 4th grader.

And because you won't read this whole post, I'm sure the response will call me some sort of Boren defender or enabler or apologist or OSU fan or something else equally dumb, because you won't be able to think it all the way through. So, in very simple terms, here is my stance on Justin Boren:

1. I don't know why he quit.
2. I don't care why he quit.
3. I don't hate him because he quit.
4. If he didn't want to play at Michigan, I am fine with him quitting.
5. While I am fine with him quitting if he didn't want to be here, I also valued his talent and am disappointed that was his decision.
6. I do not know Justin Boren, and I hold no ill-will towards him personally nor do I make any judgments about him and his decision not to hit other 300 pound men for our football team this upcoming season.

Gravatar FWIW, Rivals is saying that Sherrod Harris (who lost out on the starting job at Texas to Colt McCoy 2 years ago) is looking to transfer, and that UCLA and Michigan are his top 2 picks. Again, Rivals, so...grain of salt.

Gravatar @Mallett Fumbles Snaps:

No man- didn't know they did a Sally Struthers episode. Kinda surprised she hasn't mentioned it. It's generally just based on my insanely warped sense of humor, and playing poker at 5 am this morning when I couldn't sleep. Don't know if anyone else found it funny, but I thought it was hysterical.

Somehow my train of thought went:

Justin Boren--> His vagina hurts--->Sally Struthers.

I honestly have no clue where my shit comes from, it just does.

Gravatar If Rich Rodriguez can't close the deal on this possibly existing opportunity then he is a failure.

Gravatar Harris is a RS Sophomore, so he'd only get one season wherever he goes, anyway.

Gravatar @ Ninja

I am a female and yes I thought it was funny as hell. I hold no ill will towards Boren but I love a good laugh.

Southpark did a funny episode with SS trying to save the world. I think it may have been Ethoipa and the kids sent Cartman over and he ate all the food. Great episode

Gravatar haloscan!

Gravatar That's the Starvin Marvin episode.

Gravatar @Dex:
I wholeheartedly agree with your post with the list. I hold no ill will toward the guy and think everyone who's freaking out because R2 lacks top-end savoriness needs to relax.

Gravatar Oh crap I did see that one! I just remember Starvin' Marvin and not Sally Struthers. Here I was thinking I was originally nuts and it turns out maybe I'm just copy-cat nuts. Damn.

Gravatar I don't understand why Sherrod Harris can't make up his fucking mind and come here already. What kind of QB can he possibly be is he failed to read Lloyd Carr's mind, know he was retiring, and the divine that RR was going to be hired, and transfer LAST YEAR so he could save us THIS YEAR.

Gravatar Harris is a RS Soph to be....thus he would sit out his sophomore season next year and be eligible for two years after that. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Gravatar Chitown, did you see this post back in the original Boren transfer thread? It's gold, gold I tell you.

Tate is a self promoter, along with his Dad and handlers, he will milk his recruitment as long as he can, forget this kid, much better out there.

Wrassler | 03.26.08 - 3:16 am | #

Gravatar yeah thats it..thanks chitown

Gravatar Dex, the thing is, the parody of that line of thought has become so pervasive, that I sometimes can't tell if someone is actually that dumb, or skewering someone who is that dumb.

But seriously, Tate Forcier has had 17 years to think about this! What's his fucking problem!?

Gravatar Parody or real, it's funny.

Gravatar Tate should just ask Sally Struthers where he should go. That bitch knows EVERYTHING.

Gravatar It was in between all the fakeposts and delusions of grandeur by people that they were going to use the numbers on the Forcier's offer letters to call coaches and talk to them, so the stupidity was high that night.

Gravatar OMG GUYS I JUST PRETENDED TO BE RUSSELL SHEPHERD AND TOTALLY FOOLED THE LSU COACHING STAFF I'M GOING TO ASK LES MILES WHY LLOYD DOESN'T LIKE HIM REPORTING BACK SOON

Gravatar I'm still on the board as wanting Newsome now that we can't get Shep. Hurdlers are just a different breed man, we're all nuts.

Gravatar Good to see we are still slicing and dicing Boren's motivations (or lack of motivation, as some see it) for leaving.

Maybe we need a new topic :)

When Feagin becomes a two-time first team all big 10 QB, we wont even remember Boren's name!!!

Gravatar Look, people, the inescapable truth is this:

Every year, there are hundreds of kids that sign LOI's to play D-I football. All of them want to go to Michigan. It is the best choice for everyone ranked in top 100 players in the nation.

The problem is that some of them don't understand that! Some of them prioritize shit like "family" and "happiness" and "relationships" over going to Michigan! Well fuck them, we don't need those selfish assholes! WE ARE BETTER THAN THAT.

Other players just get swayed by all the evil coaches and boosters out there (read: all coaches and boosters not associated with Michigan). Because Michigan is, without a doubt, the best choice for every elite football player, and people generally act rationally, the only way to explain them attending somewhere else is bribery, blackmail. Or maybe Tressell kidnapped their mother at gunpoint.

Right?

Gravatar If I was a D-1 recruit, I would have signed a LOI to USC when I was in 8th grade and it wouldn't have been close with anyone else.

Gravatar @Dex

As a rational human being, I agree with everything you just posted, and have no problem with him leaving, for whatever reason he wants to give. I have been fortunate to have known a few D1, and professional athletes, so I always try to see both side of an issue, and not just resort to: "He sucks!"

But as a faceless Michigan "fan"-atic, posting on this blog, I say: "C-ya!".

It's funny how my opinion of him would've changed if he was injured and out for the season, as opposed to my opinion of him now that he is transferring.

Also, could we have released him from his schollie, and made it contingent upon his not transferring to another B10 school? Or is that just being vindictive?

Gravatar One addendum:

Barwis turns all football players into super-robotic-cyborgs with laserbeam eyes (think Cyclops from the X-Men) and Mustard-gas breath.

WELL SOME PLAYERS JUST DON'T WANT TO GET LASER BEAM EYES. So they wash out - take the "easy" path somewhere else. Pussies.

Gravatar I don't know if this was posted already, but it is basically Boren crying like a little girl. Entertaining to say the least.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/ne...tory? id=3314282

Gravatar Does Starvin' Marvin have eligibility left to play QB?

Gravatar Ninja, are you joining my Kevin Newsome mafia? The requirement for joining is that you are not allowed to believe for certain that Saint Newsome is coming to Michigan until he actually makes a verbal or signed commitment. Unless that glorious moment happens, he is headed to Va Tech.

If we maintain a pessimistic attitude, then not only will we never be disappointed, but we will fool the Michigan-hating god into thinking that we actually don't want Newsome. Who knows, maybe Michigan-hating god will want to disappoint us by making Newsome decide to attend UM?

Gravatar MLawyer - Oh, I thought he was a RS Sophomore last year. My bad.

Gravatar I like Newsome!

Gravatar I don't get how I maintain this line of thinking yet consider myself a monotheist who believes in free will. Michigan-hating god would definitely be displeased.

Gravatar @chi

Don't confuse players who haven't committed yet, with a player who has been here, and tasted the "sweet Nectar" that IS Michigan Football, and decided to turn his back on it.

Gravatar made it contingent upon his not transferring to another B10 school?

I can't find any back up for this, so it could be wrong, but I've seen a lot of people saying you can't be on scholarship if you transfer from one B10 school to another.

Gravatar Those who stay will be 4 and 8!

Gravatar chitown and afrocalypse now:

You are welcome to join my Kevin Newsome Mafia, but our motto is, "When you assume you make an ass out of you and me...as well as cost us a shot at landing a major blue-chip recruit."

Gravatar Hmmm.... I thought I heard on the radio this morning that the Columbus Post was saying his family was looking at OSU. Maybe they are going to pay his way.

Gravatar Dex - nice treatise on the "basic premise of my statements". Not sure we're really that far apart on this issue. At the end of the day Boren quit and Michigan will be fine without him. Didn't call him a "pussy" or take any "discussion" into "those depths".

When changing the culture of a program some attrition is expected. Boren wasn't happy with the change and quit. Period. Pretty sure he didn't quit because his political views on Tibet were different that RR's. Seems to have had something to do with coaches approach to practices and conditioning (as that's what has happened to date...). I'll leave the question of transferring to a rival between you and your maker (or reincarnate leader).

Gravatar 4 and 8, Back to Glenville State!

Gravatar dex--

Here is a link.

If he goes to another B10 school... no scholarship.

http://graphics.fansonly.com/ con...ictransfers.pdf

Gravatar Or maybe Tressell kidnapped their mother at gunpoint....

Why would tressel need a gun when he can just consume their souls?

@Wayman:
Newsome Mafia? count me in. but I reserve the right to defect if shep commits.

Gravatar I kind of have a hard time believing that kids who committed 2 years ago didn't see Carr's departure as a possibility during their time at the school. That strikes me as a tad disingenuous.

Gravatar Hey, Tim, my motto during the coaching search was "I'm not going to believe he's in until he's wearing the block M at a presser." So, I'm down w/ your Newsome rules.

Gravatar Nice that that Post Dispatch link has a ticker counting the days since Michigan last beat tUoOS.

What must it be like to obsess over one team ALL FREAKING year? ......
Anyone?...Sparty? You listening?

Gravatar I kind of have a hard time believing that kids who committed 2 years ago didn't see Carr's departure as a possibility during their time at the school. That strikes me as a tad disingenuous.
chitownblue 00 | 03.27.08 - 11:24 am | #

That doesn't sound like you. Bodysnatchers?

Gravatar No, it actually was me. Boren's dad seemed shocked (shocked!) that Carr left during Boren's time. Was it that surprising?

Gravatar That would be like someone at PSU feigning surprise when Joe Pa retires.

Gravatar And there it is! Anyone read his dads comments? There is the problem right there. Daddy making sure his little fat man isnt getting yeld at. This is exactly the reason we have been average for the last ten years . This is football not thursday night cooking class. And Dex, had he kept his mouth shut after quitting the team he wouldnt be getting as much shit. And he was whining about conditioning a week ago. Thats why he left just used this as an excuse.

Gravatar Glad you a good long personal talk with him to confirm that.

Gravatar had he kept his mouth shut after quitting the team he wouldnt be getting as much shit

The comment thread from the night he quit and 12 hours before he said anything is on Line 1, it would like to remind you of what actually happened and not the twisted version of reality you are in where you make things up and then pretend it's the truth.

Gravatar Here's a picture of Alex Mitchell. It's a great comedic palate cleanser.

Gravatar He is doing what he did at WVU,
Reply

-------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------

He is weeding out the players that dont have the work ethic. When he came to WVU, our players had gotten lazy. Our former coaches (well, a few are now back Im sorry to say), had gotten soft on the players. Their practices werent any harder than a high school practice.

When Rod came in, he made their lives hell on the practice field. Those with the work ethic and desire to succeed stayed, those who cared more about being cottled then winning left.

You will have the players who want to work and want to win. You will be shedding the kids who gave up against Oregon and didnt play hard against Appy State.

Gravatar Dex read the writing on the wall. I have and can tell your a typical type A. So he just happened to decide to quit when practice gets tough? If it was a personality conflict why didnt he quit a month ago? O hell even two weeks ago for that matter. He couldnt take the work. He left soon as it got hard.

Gravatar If he goes to UoOS I really hope to see Witherspoon rip his head off and shit down his neck on his way to sacking Pryor. In a nice, family values kind of way, of course, so he should say "excuse me" beforehand.

Gravatar I don't read the writing on the wall, I deal with facts. That's why I'm not an idiot.

Gravatar Your wrong the shit talk took off to a new level once he opened his fat, no work ethic, lazy, mouth.

Gravatar Regarding Boren, and the many negative posts out there about this young man's character. I've been coaching HS football for 29 years now, and have been attending Michigan practices since the late 1970's when Bo was the man in charge. I'm also a season ticket holder for over 20 years, so obviously a fan. All the head coaches were different, as were the assistants, but there was one HUGE change I've noticed with the current staff that troubles me, and I am sure was a major factor in Boren leaving the program. I've had the opportunity to see both a practice this spring and a winter workout with Barwis (we were only admitted because we were with a former player), and I have never heard the amount of unnecessary profanity spewed by this entire staff, nor the number of personally insulting remarks directed at the players as I heard recently. It was actually very uncomfortable for me as a visiting coach, and has to be embarrassing to the players. One of the greatest strengths of the Michigan program over the years is the respect that has been shown to every player, from All-Americans to walk-ons. I've had the opportunity to coach several players that have gone on to play at UM, and to a man they had positive experiences. Right now, I don't think I could honestly recommend Michigan to a player, nor would I send any of my 3 sons there to play for this staff. While it is true that the workouts and practices are more difficult and of a higher tempo than in the past, the negativity and insults that pass for motivation are totally unnecessary. Even Bo, as intense as he was (and I saw him berate many a player in anger in practice) never attacked a player's lack of manhood or used the language I heard in Schembechler Hall this winter and spring. Kids who play college football at the Big 10 level are not "pussies". It's a shame that these young men (like Boren) have to be submitted to this. More importantly, I worry about the type of kids we will be recruiting (as opposed to the past) that will see this as acceptable. And I really don't care who else does it (Grand Valley has a similar reputation). In my mind there are things that are more important than winning a football game. I am truly worried for the future of Michigan Football. I know from watching that Boren made it through the workouts just fine, but I also know that he could not tolerate the treatment he received. I feel bad for him, and wish him well. Our loss!

Gravatar Dex your as factual as Oliver North there buddy.

Gravatar Bluemanbarwisgroup,

Out of curiousity, what is the highest level you ever played a sport at?

Gravatar BO,
Drop the bong buddy. So what are you like 60? And to say Bo never called anyone a pussy? Are you friggin kidding me?

Gravatar lol
Chitown would it matter if I told you?

Gravatar blueman,

Bo may be 60, but he's not typing like a vaguely retarded 8 year old.

Gravatar It would. It's easy for someone who last played sports in high school to sit back and call everyone who plays for Michigan football a "pussy" because they think the workout are hard. I'm curious how far you've ever exerted yourself before you can act like there's a problem with them.

Gravatar Ok there tough guy. Your right I should leave you to your alarmist banter with Dex

Gravatar So because I refuse to make any judgment on why Boren quit, because I was not there and have no idea what really happened, I am somehow not being factual.

Thanks buddy.

Gravatar Alarmist. Me?

You keep using that word, I'm not sure you know what it means.

Gravatar Complains about the workouts and then quits a week later. Whats not to know? And the statement he threw out there before he left was bs!

Gravatar Bo didnt walk, Bo floated around. Bo didnt have sex, Bo snapped his fingers and Bo made babies. Bo didnt eat, Bo just acquired life-giving mana from the surroundign atmosphere.

Gravatar Also, having been in many, many, college sports pre-game locker-rooms, I can tell you that the idea that all atheletes are head-butting, chest bumping, screaming loons in order to get psyched is the dumbest, stupidest, cliche ever. I've had many, many, coaches, even on a semi-pro level, and they all treated us with respect.

Gravatar Bo didn't do pushups, he pushed the world down.

Gravatar That's cause your a swimmer you bozo

Gravatar Bo, thanks for your insight. This sort of thing does worry me a bit, and I want to have a football staff that everyone likes, but I have a hard time believing that this is not the norm almost everywhere. A coach will be hard on his players, especially at the beginning of the new regime. He needs to set the tone. Perhaps RR and his staff aren't doing that in the best way right now, but it seems that past WVU players loved him and his staff. I would be more worried if many stories like this were surfacing from RR's past, but they don't seem to be. I think Boren did the right thing if this place and that treatment was too much for him, but I attribute this to an adjustment period with the new coaching staff. I think in time, the players will love RR and his staff (and vice versa).

Gravatar I swam. I also played club lacrosse at Michigan, and then played indoor lacrosse semi-pro for 2 years after college.

Gravatar And the statement he threw out there before he left was bs!

Here is why you are stupid.

Boren's statement a week ago that indicates workouts are tougher (ignore that he didn't say he hated it and actually seemed positive about it) = He's leaving because he can't hack it.

Boren's statement after he leaves, directly addressing the issue and not citing the workouts = A lie.

Tell me, my dim witted friend, how I am supposed to know when Justin Boren is lying and when he is telling the truth in the media. Does the "Big Box of Retarded" you buy at the local WalMart come with a send away offer for a Justin Boren decoder ring?

Gravatar blueman - Boren praised Barwis and his workouts in a presser. The workouts themselves were not his problem. His remarks upon leaving certainly suggest that he disliked the coaches - as Bo alludes to.

Gravatar Chitownblue,
Boren's dad didn't say he was surprised that Carr retired. He said he was surprised that the entire coaching staff changed (obviously minus English). I have many friends -- including some who work in the UM athletic department -- who expressed great surprise and regret that we brought in an "outsider" and let him clean house. In their eyes, it was a violation of the Michigan Way. I don't share their opinion, but I understand the sentiment. This is certainly a regime change and an end of the Bo era. I think that's what took Mike Boren by surprise.

Gravatar Out of curiousity, what is the highest level you ever played a sport at?

@Chitwon:
Out of curiousity, what's the highest level of English glass they ever allowed you to end a sentence with a preposition in?

sorry dude, the write in me couldn't resist.

Bluebarwis:
Dude, the lack of respect and civility toward a person such as Bo- who has put together a well thought out post- is completely unnecessary. I agree with you on most things, even on the difference in yesteryear and today, but not like that man.

Gravatar I think it seems pretty likely that Boren isn't lying. We've all seen the Barwis pregame video where he drops about 40 F-bombs in 3 minutes. I'm sure the new staff is being hard on the players right now--this is a difficult transition time and if we don't maximize every minute of spring practice, it translates to losses in the fall. But I simply don't believe, given RR's past, that he is some asshole who has no care for his players.

Gravatar Anon - you're right. Should have read closer.

Gravatar The biggest problem with this whole situation is that we are forced to look at it from the outside and so we pretty much make up our minds about what we choose to believe. We can analyze every quote available out there in the media and on other message boards but everyone is reading their own bias into it. Until everyone just accepts that and moves on, this is just a giant pissing contest that will never end until the next issue pops up.

Gravatar Ninja, when I'm writing fast, that is a time my writing grammatically falls apart at.

Gravatar I think the most simple explanation is that this was a personality conflict, where one person didn't get along with another. That doesn make anyone an asshole, and doesn't make anyone a pansy.

Gravatar I don't know what Bo was like at practice. I do know that off the field, Bo could be very profane. Something tells me he didn't turn this off when he walked on the field.
That being said I did not particularly like playing for coached who were overly negative--it never particularly motivated me. In those situations usually there was shared comradery with teammates--us against them. I could never see quiting on my teammates. But that was a different time, a different level, and he is a different person.

Gravatar Agreed, Chitown

Gravatar Im the Eight year old Dex? You friggin simpleton. Open your eyes step into the present.

Gravatar Definition of Alarmist:
Someone who installs alarms. Right?

...He said he was surprised that the entire coaching staff changed (obviously minus English).

Well shit, if they're not speaking English anymore than no wonder.

Gravatar I appologize Bo if I insulted you in any way. I was just sayin that Bo was one of the OG hard asses thats all.

Gravatar bluemanbarwisgroup,

What does that even mean? You're half-a-step above gibberish right now, buddy.

Gravatar I'm willing to bet you're not old enough to have seen a single game that Bo coached.

Gravatar I have no idea what this idiot is talking about. How am I *not* in the present? Is there a new device out there that allows me to tell when someone I have never met is lying in public?

Gravatar Ninja, when I'm writing fast, that is a time my writing grammatically falls apart at.

Touche.

Until everyone just accepts that and moves on, this is just a giant pissing contest that will never end until the next issue pops up.

God I hope so, the end of a stupid pissing contest means we'd all have to actually WORK.

Gravatar we badly need a new post or something exciting to happen so we can get a change of topic in here

Gravatar Something else to talk about....

This guy:

http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110...c=1& nid=1304173

Sherrod Harris 4*Scout/3*Rivals may transfer to Michigan, according to Rivals. He's a dual threat QB.

Gravatar And he got a 1310 on the old-format SAT!

Gravatar Is there a new device out there that allows me to tell when someone I have never met is lying in public?

God I hope so, and I hope it comes with a loud siren and flashing lights. I would constantly follow around UoOs fans and say "You're an asshole" and then it'd go off when they'd refute my statement. We could even make it a drinking game. This would be awesome. I nominate that for my Evil Genius Plan of the Week.

Gravatar @ chitown

just saw on umgoblue that he decided to stay at texas..take that with a grain of salt tho, no source was provided

Gravatar Ninja, I think you're lying when you say that would be an awesome idea.

Gravatar Let's talk about Sally Struthers. That bitch is awesome.

Gravatar Drinking while making fun of Buckeye fans, what could possibly be more awesome? Besides, I live in East Lansing, so I get to drink and make fun of Spartan fans every day, and that just gets boring.

Gravatar Sally Struthers does not lack top end hungriness. However she is fat and lazy and would quit under the new coaching regime.

Gravatar [url]http://www.clublez.com[/url]

Gravatar Isn't this like the 3rd time someone posted the link to "clublez.com"? Seriously?

Gravatar I keep going there but I don't think it's that cool.

Gravatar Well fuck my pussy with a fucking sledgehammer!

I have only played basketball in HS, so I don't think that I am authorized to say that a d-IA college football player should suck it up, especially when he puts in all those hours. Sure, my HS coach swore, but I also got away with murder during practice. I didn't improve as a player or become more physically fit. Yeah, he wasn't the best coach. Coaches should be tough, but maybe there is a point where the swearing becomes excessive. If you are going to swear, you have to do it right. Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson are among the best at dropping the f-bomb. Matt Damon also knows how to say "fuck" pretty well. Overall, the swearing in The Departed was done very well, except by Martin Sheen.

Point is, if a coach is going to call a player a pussy, then he better do it right. But he should also have respect for his players. It's not a matter of going soft on them. I have never coached, but I wouldn't think it unreasonable to think that a coach should demand the best from his players while also treating them as responsible grownups, or at least demanding that they behave as such. A coach shouldn't behave in a way that contradicts that model, unless that isn't quite what RR's model is.

Again, I don't know what goes on there and I have never played at that level, but I would imagine that that is how a coach should act. Does anyone know if RR lightens up as workout progresses?

Gravatar Chi- You get me all excited about the transfer and 2 posts later he is staying at Texas already??? You can't do that to me bro

Gravatar On a side note I bet Bobby Knight LOVES RR.

Gravatar So it was the old SAT format? Are you sure? Oh yeah, apparently you should all visit clublez.com. I just want to email the webmasters telling them congratulations for creating the best site on the internet! You guys did it!

Gravatar If Boren wants to go, then that's fine. I just hope that he doesn't pick OSU. It's his choice, but it seems wrong on so many levels.

Gravatar I'm impressed with Sherrod Harris's 4.2 gpa.

Gravatar Does anybody know of anyone else who has played at both UM and OSU?

I have a hard time believing he'd go to OSU. Not only because it would be really weird, but by the time he was able to play, OSU would have Brewster, Adams, and Shugarts as sophomores.

Gravatar It looks like Harris has decided to stay at Texas.

Gravatar Don't think there has been any UM/OSU players.

I wonder how spring practice is going.

Gravatar If Boren went to OSU, he'd lose a year of eligability. Correct me if I'm wrong, but thats nto worth it to either parties. I heard he's headed to Cincinnati.

Gravatar Does he really think he could beat out the fucking beasts they have down there? I mean really? And does tressell not drop F-bombs? I find that difficult to believe.

Gravatar Not sure if anyone has posted this yet but here is the big hit by Ortmeyer.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k...h? v=kMLHqHu8NMY

Gravatar Harris got into Duke, so I think the 1350 SAT is probably old-style format.

Gravatar Tressel doesn't seem like the F-bomb type of guy, but I obviously don't know from personal experience.

Besides, it's possible Brewster, Shugarts, and Adams suck. You never know, O-line is one of those positions where you don't know what you might get.

Gravatar I would much rather be a 5rd string QB at Texas behind Colt McCoy then be starting QB at Duke under Ted "0-12" Roof!

Gravatar I wonder if Rich Rod ever looked into whether or not Keith Nichol was interested in transferring from Oklahoma. I doubt he will see the field anytime soon there, if ever at all.

Gravatar I would be surprised to hear "the Senator" swear.

Gravatar If Boren went to OSU, he'd lose a year of eligability. Correct me if I'm wrong, but thats nto worth it to either parties. I heard he's headed to Cincinnati.
big gay heart | 03.27.08 - 12:30 pm | #

Great...the Borecat fans down here will jizz all over their coneys.

Gravatar Tim - well, that's precisely what Harris did.

Gravatar cincinnati chilli is a nationa ltreasure.

Gravatar Here is an excerpt from my interview

"I think I'm the most balanced quarterback in the country," Forcier told Scout.com in late February. "I can throw wherever you want, I can run it if you want, I make good decisions, and I can make things happen.

"I've been taught that there is the coach's play and then there is your play. When the play the coach calls breaks down or is taken away by something the defense does, I can still make a play. I don't see many other quarterbacks that can do all of those things well."

Gravatar Boren has to sit out a year if he transfers to a 1-A program. He is not eligible for a scholarship if he transfers to another Big 10 school.

He is eligible immediately if he goes division 1-AA, II or III

Gravatar At least He's humble.

Gravatar hey, have you guys seen muxtape? its just a bunch of mix tapes on a site. pretty neat, you just click on the song and it plays, no downloading, etc. make one.

Pam Anderson is a national treasure. Cincinnati chili makes ya shit. Kind of like hitting White Castle and washing it down with some Taco Bell after a night of dropping 40oz. 8-balls down yer gullet.

I need TP for my bunghole!

Gravatar i just plowed my way through all your posts.

dex, you are pretty cocky kid with obvious existential and revolutionary perspectives.

Gravatar Forcier has self-esteem issues and lacks top end confidence. You should start Sally Struthers at QB. that bitch is awesome.

Gravatar @MgoBlueBallz:

Another one of us stuck in Cinci, eh? Say hi to the crew at Rp's for me.

Gravatar Sally Struthers?

I take it you were a big Archie Bunker fan.

Anyone else excited about the Sweet 16 today?

Gravatar Justin fucking Boren going to Cincinnati? And he wants to protect his sense of manhood? Oh, I'm sure he'll feel really manly when he wakes up one day wearing a locally fashioned bow-tie!

(No, Ninja, it never gets old!)

Gravatar Ninja Football: hahaha, RPs. Chock full of 30+ year old docuhebags who think handing out business cards to the ladies makes them want to bang you, despite your bald spot and reluctance to depart from mid-90's "i look like david schwimmer" style.

You are not allowed to talk to Sally Struthers until you read Ninja's Sally Struthers post. It's about Sally Struthers and Justin Boren. Plus it's got Sally Struthers in it, and that bitch is awesome.

Gravatar that was one h-e-doulble hockey sticks of a thread.

look, it's pretty clear (esp after Bo's comment) that it wasn't simply the difficulty level of workouts or the running. they have been doing that since Jan 6. it wasn't just a few F-bombs. I think it was the clear realization that (even on the practice field) most (all?) of the coaches are like drill instructors who do nothing but say 'F-this, F-that, you can't run you pussy? get the F-up!!!!!!' all at the top of their lungs, in the faces of the players. and this happen regularly, apparently.

so yea, like Chitown says, some guys just don't respond to that. that kind of abuse doen't make them more motivated and thus doesn't make them better players. not when it's 100 f-ing % of the F-ing you F-ing pussAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!!

now, the question is, is this how the coaches operate on a regular basis, or is this part of the routine to figure out which guys they can lean on, see what all the kids are made etc, during the transition? either way, they are finding out really quickly which guys can be counted on 100%.

Gravatar BGH:
I used to live right down the street from RP's. I was the guy sitting at the end of the bar making fun of all the guys my age who look like David Schwimmer and have no game. NEVER go to that place on the weekends, it's insane. Unless Ten Foot Big is playing, then it's worth selling a kidney to get in.

Gravatar also, Jed F-ing Ortmeyer.

Gravatar ninja, i lived right over there for awhile. im in mt. adams now.

Gravatar DanK - agreed.

Clearly, this will be a larger problem now than it will be later. When recruits go on trips, see practices, etc., they'll see the style that this staff runs practice with - if they don't like it, we won't get them. The problem we have now is that we have a team full of players who committed to a completely different style of coaching - this, literally, isn't what they signed up for.

Gravatar @Ninja Football

Truth be told, I'm south of the Mason-Dixon line here in KY. I can't live in Ohio. Dad is a UM grad and I think I'm genetically predisposed to hate anything Ohio.

Gravatar Nice. Taking a chick to the Blind Lemon in the fall is like 3 hours of foreplay for them. Being within walking distance is a good move.

Gravatar Oops, that was at BGH.

@ GoBluBallz: Yeah, no one could believe it when I was living down there either.

Gravatar On another note...did anyone catch the 1989 Michigan vs Duke basketball game replay last night on the BTN? M put up 109 on the Blue Devils.

That team was fun to watch - Rumeal penetrating, Mills posting up, Higgins hitting everything, Loy Vaught rebounding like an animal (and making every putback), Riley blocking shots....I haven't had that much fun watching M hoops in 15 years.

Also: interesting clips of Amaker coaching up Bobby Hurley on the Duke bench - how come he never did the same in 5 years on Michigan's bench?

Gravatar Boren cites the loss of "family values" under Beelzebub Rodriguez and then his own family darkly hints he may transfer to play for The Vest. Funny, I didn't think treachery was a family value, unless you mean the Manson Family.

Gravatar I feel much better now seeing more 'ganders down here in ohio. I'm stuck in Columbass.

I don't know if anybody posted this, but from the Columbass Dispatch... http://www.dispatch.com/live/con...98.html? sid=101

I know that this isn't what they signed up for, and I can understand that, but it still seems like kind of a punk thing to do. And if he's considering Cinci, which I don't care if he does or doesn't, he might want to meet BK first. He's been known to have a potty mouth.

Gravatar Family values?..... uh huh.

this one seems a bit strange.....

Gravatar i dont think i've ever seen so many players/people overreact to a regime change in a program. i mean seriously, ok we are going to the spread offense and every player is freaking out. it's still football right? did we really recruit the most highly touted one-dimensional players in the country over the last few years? this is just ridiculous. in the end, you are a football player. and about the 'family values' or lack there of, give me a break...

Gravatar And for everyone bashing RR, he is looking more and more like a clone of almighty Bo the longer he has been in Ann Arbor. i for one love it.

Gravatar @wolverineinsfla

I agree

Gravatar Any more fat people leave yet today?

Gravatar @beantownblue
Couldnt agree more!

Gravatar Scout rumor of another possible defection. A young backup DE.

Gravatar DE is already very thin as well.

Gravatar Boren considering OSU after departing Michigan

One week after choking back yet another load from top quarterback prospect Terrelle Pryor, the University of Ohio State University found itself on its knees yet again yesterday in front of Michigan lineman Justin Boren, who announced that his twigs and berries are sore.

Boren, a Swallowington graduate who accepted enough tea-bagging to start for the Wolverines as a sophomore last season, released a queef in which he criticized the atmosphere.

"I regret leaving behind my pizza and beer, but I need to stand up for what I know is right.

"I wore a helmet, whether things were going well or times were tough, from Coach (Lloyd) Carr on down. That same helmet, that I was raised on and proudly claimed for the last two years, now brings a completely different emotion to me, one that interferes with pizza and beer. …

"I wish my teammates the best and will always remember Hot N Ready Humpday[s]."

Rodriguez was terse in his reaction.

"Justin who?" Rodriguez told The Detroit News.

Gravatar "Three years ago, if I had seen in a crystal ball that the whole coaching staff was going to change halfway through his career, I would never have let Justin go to Michigan," Mike Boren told the paper

HAHA
Guess they know hes not going to be a pro already!

GeeVee | 03.27.08 - 1:24 pm | #

This article has some poor reporting. IIRC, you lose a year of eligability for intra-league transfers? As well as the scholorship opportunity?

Gravatar You lose a year of eligibility for any D1 to D1 transfer. Big Ten rules say you lose any scholarship for a B10 to B10 transfer.

Gravatar Boren can go to hell, whoever else defects, get your ass out of town.

We're still a talented team, and I don't want people on the team who don't want to be here.

Gravatar Think where we would be if brainless DeBord never became our offensive coordinator...

oh the possibilities.

Gravatar is there a new post yet?

Gravatar yea, is my browser just not refreshing?

Gravatar I always thought you retained the eligibility, you just had to sit out a year. This prevents trying to recruit people to a new school when they already play for another program, but the player still keep his eligibility if he chooses to make that sacrifice. I'm like 95% certain, and this is how I've always understood the rule.

Gravatar As an alumnus of UM-Dearborn, I am saddened to learn about the change in student ticket policy. For me, the ability to buy student tickets was THE reason I chose UM-Dearborn over MSU or anywhere else (UM-Ann Arbor was the only in-state school I wasn't accepted to). As a Dearborn student, I purchased football and hockey tickets as well as some student tickets for concerts at Hill Auditorium. This was an important aspect of my college experience. The reality is that, since Dearborn is a commuter campus, much of the "college experience" is lost. But attending games with friends from the Ann Arbor campus provided a bit of that experience. I hope the change won't affect bowl games. I was lucky enough to be part of the great '97 season, including the Rose Bowl trip through the Alumni Association.

Greg Thompson
B.S. Physics '99

Gravatar I'm pretty sure you have to sit out a year and lose the eligibility all together.

Gravatar @dex

"The Wizard better learn to read the weather report right after he finally figures out what conference he is in!"

Love the fact that you tied the spread can't work in cold weather and fact that RR doesn't know what conference he is in.

Bravo.

Re: QB transfer rumors (from what I've seen)- Cone may be out, Sherrod Harris at Texas may be interesting in coming in.

Gravatar When you transfer, you sit out a year that costs you a year of eligibility, unless you go to D-II or D-IAA

Gravatar Re: QB transfer rumors (from what I've seen)- Cone may be out, Sherrod Harris at Texas may be interesting in coming in.
Jim Harbaugh Scramble | 03.27.08 - 3:03 pm | #

i saw earlier that harris said he's staying at texas

Gravatar South - someone on Rivals who says he knows Sherrod Harris said that Sherrod Harris decided to stay.

That said, Sherrod Harris himself, to my knowledge, ever said, publicly, that he wants to leave.

So, like, a huge whatever to everything.

Gravatar ahh ok..he's buried on the depth chart there, so baring a miracle he wont see the field anytime soon

Gravatar Right, he's heind McCoy on the depth chart, and is only 1 year younger. Also, there is a guy 1 year younger than him ahead of him on the chart, and another 5-star coming in next year. He'll never play.

Gravatar Harris will never see PT behind McCoy and Chiles and then Gilbert(?) coming in - so if he wants to stay there thats fine by me.

Boy, did that rumor cool down quickly.

Gravatar Haha Les Miles.

Well Ryan Perriloux is back ya'll.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/ne...tory? id=3315406

Gravatar I figured Perrilloux would be back - this IMO increases the chances that Shep ends up at LSU.

Gravatar http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/ne...tory? id=3314378

Odds Weiss fits in one of the seats on the smaller planes that go from base to base?

They will probably have to use one of those tank transport devices and strap him down.

Gravatar I'm busy and there are a ton of posts. What's the deal with Cone and a possible incoming QB?

Gravatar Wonder when we'll get our QB.

Gravatar Keegan - all the posts ended up with:

We have no clue on either count.

People were saying Sherrod Harris from Texas, because he's buried on their depth chart, and will never emerge. But that seems unlikely.

Gravatar @JHS,

If Shep was to change his mind about his commitment to LSU, wouldn't this be the time to do so now that Ryan Perriloux is back on the roster?

Gravatar Yeah - IF Perriloux influenced his decision, wouldn't his presence be a negative?

Gravatar You guy's still talking about Justin? The topic is....*wait for it*.....Boren the hell out of me! Thank you, thank you, try the veal and tip your wait staff.

Gravatar figured Perrilloux would be back - this IMO increases the chances that Shep ends up at LSU.
Jim Harbaugh Scramble | 03.27.08 - 3:29 pm | #

JHS:
Ok, my interest is piqued- why do you think it increases the chances shep goes to LSU?

Gravatar Henne - If you watch the Spring Training videos at MGoBlue.com, there's an interview with RR on there where he says he won't have any sort of depth charts set in stone until Aug. 29th. Anything you see in writing until then "is just a piece of paper."

It doesn't sound like Cone is working out, at least that's the rumor on the blog world, so take that with a grain of salt. It does sound like Threet and Sheridan are adapting well though.

It'll be interesint to see!

Gravatar @Wayman

Now that Perrilloux is back I think it only helps their chances to keep Shep.

If Perrilloux didn't come back LSU was looking to start a rs frosh - a lot of LSU fans were high on this kid and thought he could be a 4 year starter. Lets say this kid starts in 08 and looks great - why would Shep want to go to LSU and have sit on the bench for at least 2 seasons (probably three) behind an established starting qb who has only one year's class diference between him?

Now that RP is back he will be the starter this year - maybe he blows up and goes pro, if not in 09 Shep is clearly the go to guy behind RP who is in his last season of eligibility.

Thats why I think that having RP back is good for LSU in terms of securing Shep's commit. It also helps cuz SHep can watch and see how a guy with a similar skill set to his does as a full time starter in the LSU offense.

Gravatar KEEGAN! IF YOU ONLY DO ONE THING TODAY, READ NINJA'S POST ABOUT SALLY STRUTHERS. THAT BITCH IS AWESOME.

Gravatar Who in the snot is Shep?

Gravatar Why would Perriloux's presence effect this RS Freshman's position on the depth chart in relation to Shepard? Now he has to wait for 2 seasons to see if he's going to start, or be a lifetime reserve.

Gravatar "It doesn't sound like Cone is working out"

Watch any tape of him from the spring practice his throws look awful and this is w/o pads on and w/o a pass russ. Seriously I'd cast my lot with running the wishbone with Brown at qb before I'd let Cone play.

Gravatar Remember, Perriloux was suspended indefinitely at the time of Shep's commitment. These players don't have the best foresight. I mean, Michigan players act like they were surprised that Lloyd was leaving.

Random question: does the coaching staff talk to players about steroids? It's a major issue in sports today and is becoming more widespread in HS athletics. I imagine that players are told about the dangers of steroid use and the repercussions. Anyone know? I'm curious.

Gravatar JHS - I agree... in fact, look at what happened with Terrell Pryor. He went to tUoOS because he'd be able to play with and learn from Boeckman and be used in a role like Tim Teebow was used in his freshman year.

MgoBlueBallz - Russell Shepard is one of the top QBs coming out of the 2009 recruiting class. He was talking about the possibility of coming to UofM, but has since committed to LSU.

SeE: http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?...c=1& nid=3002233

Gravatar Thats just my take on the RP situation - put it this way would you rather go to a school where the incumbent starter is a 5th year senior or a sophomore?

Gravatar Tim Wayman,

As long they are told about masking agents and how to beat the piss test, I'm cool with college players using 'roids. Better still, put them on HGH. Undetectable in a piss test.

I'm kidding about all of this.

Kind Of.

Somewhat.

But not really.

Gravatar @Andy C.

Gracias!

Good first name by the way.

Gravatar Oh God Wayman, please don't start the puffy nipple conversation up again. Please.

Gravatar Bitch tits are cool.

Gravatar While we're on the subject of first names....

You know who has a great first name? Sally Struthers! That bitch is awesome.

Gravatar Ok, who's on the Sally Struthers kick? 'Cause I find it kinda funny. Plus that bitch is (apparently) awesome.

Gravatar Do not taunt Sally Struthers.

Gravatar Not to start an arguement, but, there is much debate as to whether or not steroids played any role in Lyle Alzado's death. His personal physician said years ago that he didn't believe they played much, if an, role in his untimely and unfortunate death. There have been rumors (and I emphasize RUMORS) that Alzado might have had AIDS when he died.

Gravatar I thought Sherrod died when he took one of Bubbles' hotshots?!?!

Gravatar Yay! A new thread!!!

Gravatar @JHS -

How long does it take for a broken finger to heal? Didn't C. Brown just break one? Not that it means he's completely out, but still.

Gravatar @KT -
RR said Carlos would probably be out for spring. In the presser he mentioned that Carlos "sliced" his finger - so I'm not sure about how bad of a break it is.

Gravatar Is there really a new thread? I can't find shit.

Gravatar yeah new post new thread - refresh people.

Gravatar I'm going to say this because I am bored and have time and also because I want to see who agrees with me. Please excuse the length.

I read Bo's Lasting Lessons and will use a lot of it in the work force someday. I love the tradition. I was always behind Lloyd. I am excited about RR and don't care about Les because he isn't here now. With that said:

Fuck Bo's morals and values. Fuck you if you say "he's not a Michigan Man" more than once a day. Fuck you if you know RR is a crook, even though he has done nothing to show that he is. Fuck all of you who think that we still live in the 70's and that you can win while still being morally and intellectually superior. You know who that makes you...Stanford. Fuck Stanford. This day and age it's impossible to be a student/athlete at a D1 football program. If you think it's possible, go to hell. I'm tired of everyone who thinks Michigan is going to hell because of RR. Who was in charge when all of Carty's accusations came out. Bo's protege. Don't give me this shit. Stop being moronic hypocrites that think you know shit. I'm not saying I want the Switzer Sooners rolling around campus. But I don't care if every player isn't a beacon of moral purity. Quit it with the "Bo's morals are gone" "everything Bo instilled is dead". I'm sorry, but that era is dead. The new era is here. Get on the train or get the fuck off the tracks. One quote comes to mind when I hear about the lost moral fiber of Michigan.

"Losers always whine about giving their best, winners go home and fuck the prom queen"

Start fucking.

Gravatar And I think that just about takes care of that.

Gravatar In case any of you missed this, I want to repost this from "Bo" who put this on a few hours ago [more after the jump]:

"Regarding Boren, and the many negative posts out there about this young man's character. Our loss!
Bo | 03.27.08 - 11:45 am | #"

Gravatar normally, reposting someone else's long post is ... well, something to avoid... but this was a very important and interesting post....

Gravatar if this is true, this coaching style will seriously shift what "Michigan Football" means... So, aside from a change in playing style, a new coach, etc., you are getting a new system of interaction between coach and athlete...

Gravatar this may have unanticipated recruiting consequences... what RR and his staff may have NEEDED to do with 2 star recruits may NOT at all work with 4 and 5 star recruits...

Gravatar this deserves close attention by MI fans who care (along with other things (such as whether RR is "training" and recruiting O-linemen in the next classes))

Gravatar I also would suggest that others attempt to confirm (or dis-confirm) what "Bo" wrote... we have seen the Barwis pre-game video... so, we have some inkling that "Bo" has described something accurately... but this is the first I've heard of DEMEANING the players... that is generally not NECESSARY to any learning process (whether the learning process is football or math or law or anything else).

Gravatar On a personal note, I once had a boss who criticized a project that I completed by asking me if I "liked being a ___________ [what i do]" and whether "I thought what I did was important," etc. It is probably not clear from just that, but basically it was 30 minutes of demeaning me personally, as a man, for not doing my best work on paper...

I did not take it well. I told him he needed to change his "management style" if he and I were going to work together. We did NOT ever work together again and fortunately for me, the office structure allowed me to work for/with others.

So, I can have sympathy for Boren if this is how he felt. Fat or not, slow or not, eating lots of pizzas or not; it is NEVER good to be demeaned as a method of being taught.

I do NOT think this will work with elite high school football players.... but I could be wrong...

GSims (as our resident actual FB coach): any thoughts?

Gravatar so, anyway, to everyone on the Board today, interesting and informative posts today (mostly... grin)...

@ JHS: thanks for the reply to my post last night... I repeat the gist: losing an O-Lineman like Boren does NOT mean that MI has a problem like ND had in 2007. Boren is replaceable (assuming RR knows what he is doing; which CW clearly does not).

By contrast, after reading the comment from "Bo" (and others who responded to it), the Boren event may speak to other, more latent concerns with the RR regiem...

But we need more info ... so, i'd appreciate further input from those who are able to actually see the workouts, etc...

Gravatar *regime, i meant to type.

Gravatar And, I suppose, along those lines, the reply to "Bo" by LJ and Mooseman and Tim are worth noting: maybe this is just the way the RR staff STARTS and then as the workouts progress, the demeaning lessens? Anyone have experience with bootcamp in the military? Not sure if that is an apt analogy, but stories might prove informative....

Gravatar @ Ninja... loved the S. Struthers post... (and, on a completely unrelated sidenote about how formatting matters: I first popped on MZone and just skimmed through the comments.... i saw the SS name in your post there and skipped it... my brain went: too long, see what others have said/are saying... then on here, the way Halo formats (at least on my computer), it didn't seem too long and I read it and enjoyed it... very interesting that!)... anyway, good post... LOL

Gravatar wow, it's like i'm alone in the world sending my thoughts into the ether ... if no one reads my posts, did I even post?

Oh, and one final thought before going to get some grub... to those who are concerned that Boren will go to tOSU... not up to Boren and I doubt tOSU would take him (unless just as some sort of "trophy"); a former MI O-lineman would bring too much "drama" and potential for just plain ole disaster; can you imagine if Boren's out there for tOSU against ... well, anyone ... and he screws up and the QB is knocked out... wow, the peasants would be chasing him down like Frankinstein; imagine something like that in the MI-OSU game... Cols Dispatch "WAR"-sized headline: "TRAITOR BOREN GIVES MI WIN!!"

So, not to worry... Boren will be playing somewhere "safe" and out of the B10...

Gravatar woa there larry king, i think you might be insane.

Gravatar aw, there was a new post... that explains the eerie silence and the chirping of crickets...

Gravatar It's all about street cred, baby. All we need RR to do is pull out a gatt and bust a cap in some fat ass pizaa eating, beer drinking, chain smoking Lloyd Carr leftover and we'll be IN!

Gravatar Who the fuck is this "Bo" guy with the long self righteous rant? Sounds like a Buckeye or Sparty plant. Probably asshole Dantonio.
Do you really buy into that kind of stuff? For every guy who needs to spend 7 days a week in church, there are, well, the rest of us normal people, who just need to go there to sleep off a hangover and to pray we that the secretary isn;t pregnant.

Gravatar I may be late to the...um...party, but here's a short comment on the Les Miles thingy: What the FUCK are you talking about?
I, and yes I'm going to say this, even though I am not from San Francisco, bristle at the thought that UM would have just been able to swoop in and hire Miles while he was in the middle of a championship run. No way would he, or should he, have jumped ship in between the SEC champ game and the BCS Bowl, and then once he, as we all knew he would, dispatched OSU, no way would he have left, and then UM is out there with its collective Johnson swinging in the wind.
Rodriguez was the best guy out there. UM hasn't been that great lately anyway, so a couple steps back, have a bit of patience, and then we'll be thanking our Sun Gods that Ferentz turned down a pay cut to come to Ann Arbor.

I think the idea that Michigan is banned from hosting regionals due to fan behavior is a myth. The fact is that the NCAA wants to move the regionals to neutral sites where they can.

Thanks for the link.

I took an econ class at Michigan with a visiting professor from Michigan Tech. His name was Patrick Joyce, and aside from being a crappy teacher, he was also the faculty rep to the athletic department at MTU. He claimed to have been on the regional selection commitee recently (this was 2003-04 I believe). Supposedly they received a large stack of complaint letters from fans and the other schools alike. I never figured out how connected he really was, but he claimed we wouldn't be hosting again.

We'll see.
