Gravatar Brian, thanks for the superb work. As always.

Gravatar Well informed and entertaining as always. Great job.

Gravatar wow, you are one hard working man brian... its been already said above but i must repeat it - thanks, as always...

Gravatar Anybody know if the radio feed is accesible via internet on Saturday? Thanks.

Great Work!

Gravatar I'm glad I'm not the only one awake at these hours.

Great job, as always!

Gravatar After reading this, the sky is falling. Thanks, Brian.
Nah great work, as always. Hopefully, every team UM plays will revert to the 1920's and not try that tricky "forward pass" thing.
Let's have a great season, for the "E" ticket ride is about to start.

Gravatar I will never grow tired of that picture of Crable kneeling over Quinn.

As usual, great work.

Gravatar John Beilein-Ryan Mundy trade will go down as one of the all-time great heists in coach-fifth-year-safety-who-sucks fictional trades.

thats genius

Gravatar At least you admit to screwing Slocum. One of the first time I've seen you eat your humble pie. Your growing as a blogger.

Now in the future keep some Michigan Football items that you have privy to, Michigan Football items.

Gravatar I second the genius of the Mundy for Beilein sentence.
1. Do we platoon Jamison with someone on obvious run situations?
2. When do we start hyping Szabo as the new DC (assuming we succesfully hyped English to HC)?

Gravatar I absolutely cannot keep all of the Brandons straight. I'm going to have to spreadsheet them and study before Saturday. Ridiculous.

Gravatar Look on the bright side. Slocum is begging for change and drives a 96 impala. He clearly doesn't go to Ohio State.

Gravatar @morebluethanu: but the world is a better place after exposure to the wisdom of Grand Marques. And it's just Appalachian State, right?

/knocks on wooden desk
/still knocking
/oh god what have i done

man, fuck dat spider!

Gravatar Excellent work, as always, sir. Thanks again.

Since the review of last year's preview mentions ND, here's a nod to the "returning to glory" t-shirts from USA Today...

Gravatar Michigan has a much different defensive coaching staff than in 05, so even if the talent is less now than it was then (which I don't think is true) there is not way the D will be as bad as it was in '05. Hermann was brutal. Michigan's current defensive staff is flirting with elite status.

Gravatar If I hadn't known about Marques Slocum's interview thingy, I wouldn't have been able to name my college fantasy team the Boston Fuck Lions, and my life wouldn't be nearly as joyous, so I respectfully disagree that Brian did a bad, bad thing.

Fuck stoicism. I want Michael Hart trashing Harbitch and Slocum taking bird baths.

Slocum's genius must be spread across the internets, for he is The Man. A world where Marques Slocum's unique perspective is preached like the gospel is the kind of world I want to live in.

Gravatar Mike Valenti said on the radio the other day that Terrance Taylor is better than Alan Branch. So yeah, we've got that going for us.

Go Blue!

Gravatar This defense terrifies me. No stars coming back, lots of inexperience and a bunch of question marks. It probably won't be worse than '05, but there's a decent chance that it will be.

Gravatar i bow down and worship marques slocum. the doctrine of my religion is accepting water as the greatest element, cursing spiders and learning the art of aerial transportation(as pedial transportation is vastly overrated).

Gravatar Great work and thanks for your hard work on all things Wolverine BUT BUT BUT how could you have screwed MArques!

I think an apt punishment is that you have to wake up at 5:30 every morning and get ready to blog on here for an hour for 3 months straight.

Gravatar Finally watched the videos.
When Crable sacks the Penn St. backup, Musburger basically reacts like "holy crap, again?" Good stuff.
On Taylor's sack, where the hell is Jamison going?
The Sears video labeled "poor coverage" is Alan Branch killing Morelli, and never shows Sears attempting to cover, was this on purpose?

Gravatar Thanks for that preview, these are getting more and more epic each time, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that loves it.

Anyway, I too am glad you gave directions to the pathways into the mind of Grand Marques. Its changed my life. My fuck lion is on the way from sub-Saharan Africa as we speak.

Gravatar Liam: it was Sears' guy who got open on that play. Is that just a replay of the hit?

Gravatar Yeah Brian, "Poor coverage" is just a replay of Branch Crushing Morelli

I just watched it 5 times :)

Gravatar Brian,

First, great job as always. One quibble - it's subjective but I think Marlin was actually pretty good as a freshman - not Woodson good but IMO much better than Hall as a frosh. I would take Marlin's frosh level of play at CB in a heart beat this year.

Gravatar Great work Brian.

But like most Michigan fans right about now, I'm getting those stomach-devouring butterflies. This stems all the way back to the 1979 season when I was just 8 years old, when perhaps the most experienced-laden Michigan offense and defensive units entered the year, but finished 8-3-0 and 3rd in the Big Ten (8-4-0 considering the incredible Gator bowl loss that followed) after three consecutive 10-1-0 seasons. My perfect world of Michigan football was destroyed. And why? Because Michigan didn't have a consistent kicking game (punts, PATs, FGs).

Thanks to your detailed assessment of the 2007 team, particularly the defense, I'm about to order a palette of Maalox. Thanks. :)

Gravatar Brian, whenever I play it, its only showing the hit.
Personally, I would have prefered thinking this was your way to fit last season's best moment into the preview anyway possible.

Gravatar Will Johnson is closer to the classic 3-4 NT, but neither is a monster 6-4 340 lb sort. As strong as TT is, he was asked to take on 1 guy all last year and, due to his height, probably would struggle trying to work over two. Remember all of those false starts? That was him doing what he was asked: beat your guy off the ball. We actually probably have something closer to the Bears' 4-3, with two agile interior lineman put in the 3-technique. I really don't know exactly how the Bears' utilize those guys, but they do blitz a lot and English did nearly get hired by them. Herrmann was into the 3-4 and got hired by the Jets. So there's that.

In general, though, our strength on defense this year should be a disruptive and quick line. I think Lloyd has kept their weight down on purpose, similar to the O-Line. We don't want to go to a 3-4, as that'll get us overwhelmed. My guess is that English likes to attack at all times and so he's going to make sure every one of his defenders can get to the quarterback in a hurry. That's why Harrison sees the field, despite his non-stellar covering abilities and that's why Thompson was in a battle with Ezeh. Obi looked very fast in the spring game and the guy who, I think I mentioned, stole the show for me.

The bottom line is that we're going to be in a lot of 3-deep and we're going to blitz a lot. We'll hope to limit their big plays and make our own, but we're going to leave the middle of the field relatively open, like last year but with less ability to get good drops from our LB. You're definitely right about the TEs.

Woo long comments!
