I must be the only that remembers Jalen Rose being overheard by DEA agents who bugged a stupendous CRACK HOUSE and safe haven for detroits finest drug dealers.
Calipari is pefect for Michigan because he can recruit his ass off and get along with h.s. coaches. Camby incident involved some guy who tried to blackmail him (think Reggie Bush). It had nothing to do with Calipari. Personally I think you don't like him because he's Italian and has that Fredo style haircut.

Brian,
here's a freebie. After watching those ND clips, you need to make a shirt with all the pertinent info where UM leads ND (all-time wins, win %, etc.) printed on the back. On the front, simply 2ND (as close to their logo as you can get) BEST.

The Jalen interview is great on many levels, especially the clear love he has for the university. Tom Brady has some love, too, if he could stomach that Georgetown blowout.

looks like kmf's got some jokes! Don't kid yourself...most of our national titles and most of ND's national titles came before many of us were born. Not to mention you haven't had one since '88...nearly a decade before Michigan's last MNC. Chillax, 13 is not that much more than 11...they're all mythical anyways.

of course jorel remembers that...it's the duty of ALL buckeyes to memorize EVERY potential wrongdoing by ANY & ALL M athletes. "...don't give a damn..." indeed. luckey for him, the count stopped shy of 10. not sure what he'd do if he ran out of fingers to count on. we'd do the same for os'u', except we stopped counting after scientific notation was deemed necessary. i mean, whats one more in a sum of 6.022E23?
iirc, Jalen was there w/ webber playing video games or something. felonious activity indeed.
so it's between Calipari & E Kent for the osu job when Matta leaves for UK. who's your choice, jorel?
that AAu stuff is pretty creepy. imo, the admin at M may have inhibited the staff from going hard after guys involved with AAU 'handlers' (probably a mutual decision). who knows for sure, though.
and I, for one, would welcome back EVERY member of the 91-93 teams. never Traylor, Bullock (others?) though.

Take Calipari's name off the list, he just signed an extension at Memphis. I thought he would be a nice fit at Michigan. Even with some of the recruiting rumors. I hope Bill Martin knows what he is doing.

I've got to admit I was wrong about Jalen. He was my least favorite of the Fab Five, especially after he was ticketed for playing nintendo in a crack house. It appears he's turned out the cleanest of the bunch. Even Juwan had his troubles. Those 'Jimmy King of Beers' guys with the 12 pack boxes on their heads--pretty good stuff.
I think if you want to compete at the highest level you have to be willing to play in the mud a little. You just have to keep things in perspective and cut 'em loose when they go all Carson Butler.

It's funny, basketball (pro and college) is a sport that's got so much less important to me over the years as hockey has taken over my life...but Jalen Rose is the guy who got me into Michigan sports. A ton of kids were captivated by the Fab Five, and I was no different. The guy with a wicked grin who made things go was immediately my favorite. I cut my hair short, I wore black socks...shit, I even bought the Air Jordan IX's to wear when he started his junior year wearing em. And although his pro career has had its ups and downs, Jalen remains one of my favorites because of his personality and intelligence.
As far as the drug house, Jalen got busted for loitering with friends of his from back in the day who were dealers. Shocking, I know, that a kid from Detroit would have friends who may not have been squeaky clean. I had friends who sold weed when I was in college, and frankly, I coulda had the same thing happen, people wouldn't make a big deal about it though because A) I'm not famous, and B) I'm white from the suburbs.
I agree, Brian, that the idea of Jalen as an assistant coach would be fantastic. He's smart, he knows basketball (they may wanna have someone else teach defense though) and he's a solid link to the past successes, a guy who's actually always stayed out of trouble and has been an under the radar 'good guy,' as I know he's done some real strong charity work through his career. Can't hurt to have his influence there.

Nick, i was in the same boat. the fab 5 were freshmen at Mich when i was a freshman in HS. i didn't even like or play basketball untill Jordan in 1991 & the fab 5 from 91-93. i actually was a hockey guy who turned into a basketball guy (and have since reverted). to this day, i'm the only guy i've ever known who could play both street hockey and basketball and hold my own in both. those days are long gone, however.

Ditto on the pro-Jalen comments.
I live in NYC and attended the UM v. S. Carolina NIT final last year and Jalen (a NY Knick at the time) was sitting directly behind Michigan's bench. He was talking with all of the players and encouraging them throughout the game and at halftime, etc. But the one thing that made the biggest impression on me was that during a time out late in the game, Jalen actually went over and started working the refs about a non-call. The refs were actually engaging Jalen. It was priceless stuff.

As much as I like Rose, you can't honestly believe that Michigan would ever, EVER willingly tie itself to the fab five again. There's no way any of those players will ever do anything at Michigan except attend games as spectators.
And really, I, for one, don't feel all that bad about it. Regardless of whether Rose was actually involved in anything, regardless of how nice a person he is, regardless of anything he does as a professional, Michigan basketball, and to some extent the whole university, will always have a black mark on it now, and Jalen is part of the reason.

Regarding Jalen's comment about an all-black starting five being a rarity or even somehow newsworthy in the early-90's...huh? Was he referring to the 1890's?

So many fans suspect something is going on with certain guys for completely irrational reasons.
I'm not Italian and I don't wear hairgrease or any other kind of hair accessory, but I'm sick of the assumption that those guys are shady. It has almost everything to do with their look. It's biggoted as hell and most people who say it don't even realize that. Pathetic, really.

Jalen did recently endow a scholarship to the bball team - which the University obviously accepted - and he was recently on that SportsCenter Fab Five puff piece wearing a Michigan warm-up suit. And Dan, I agree, I don't remember any findings that Jalen took money - just was associated with Webber because they were friends before Michigan.

But I honestly don't care at this point. I like Jalen. I like all of the Fab Five.

I think it's very naive to think a ridiculously high amount of high-profile college athletes (including ones at Michigan) have never taken any money. But that's just me.

WOW!! You don't have to buy the shirt, Sparky.
I thought Michigan fans might like a shirt like this, since this is a MICHIGAN site.
Face facts, though. All-time wins. All-time winning percentage. Head-to-head competition. Just to name a few. Plus, throw in the fact that UM taught ND how to play in their first game and that ND's stadium was modeled after Michigan Stadium…

nuggets from Seth Davis at SI
-Here are my early-read favorites for the four biggest openings:
Michigan -- Lon Kruger
-Incidentally, I'm not convinced John Calipari isn't moving on from Memphis. He certainly wouldn't be the first coach to take another job after: a) signing a contract extension; and b) publicly insisting he wouldn't take another job. Personally, I think he'd be absolutely lethal at Michigan.
I think Calipari is probably the sexiest name out there, and I seriously hope Martin at least gives them a call to gauge how much $$ it would take to pry him out of Conf-USA. I would be totally disappointed with Kruger, come on no retreads.
I also read the A2 news article where they want to pay 200k for a coach. Seriously it's 2007, open up the purse and stop doing things half ass
