Gravatar I object to The Smiths being placed in the "emo" category. They are too awesome for that.

Gravatar Agreed. If you're going to call it emo, make sure it's a little bit crappy.

I'd suggest replacing with a Dashboard Confessional ballad.

Gravatar We report ourselves for failing to include our #6 pick, South Carolina, in the poll at all.

Gravatar i've lost all respect for the blogpoll......ASU should be ranked ahead of M.

Gravatar Did anybody try to vote for ASU and was rejected? (Or does the blogpoll format not let them try?)

Gravatar Reminder, plans are for a carbomb celebration at Pioneer Saturday afternoon.

Visitors who mention this blog get a free carbomb.

Gravatar i love the smiths. they aren't emo. can we change it to "sad bastards week?"

Gravatar any way you can have a jason gingell post with dashboard confessional's "#1 defender" playing?

Gravatar sam i am is out

broken ankle

Gravatar The (jerk) quote in the detnews a few weeks ago popped up in a feature for the daily today. Looks like the word was prick.

Gravatar Where are these car bombs? I think I want to make myself explode.

Gravatar These carbombs will only make your head and belly explode with delicious and intoxicating alcohol.

Gravatar bretk, your keyboard is writing checks your wallet can't cash.

Gravatar Well, that's the kind of explosion I'm looking for.

Gravatar I guess we will see about that. I am only purchasing one keg of Guinness, so if that runs out prior to your arrival, then my apologies. Of course, at that point I will be numb, so...

Anyone feeling saucy is welcome to bring Jameson and/or Baileys. Those will probably run out sooner than the beer.

Again, the plan is Pioneer. We will be the obnoxious almost 30-year olds with face paint, a grill, a football...and a keg of dark, delicious beer.

Gravatar I'm over emo week three days into it. Can we start "oi" week soon ?
As in: "OI !!!! We're about to fuck some shit up".

Gravatar I don't think Henne is dumb, and he did some things last year that showed he can be an excellent quartback. Against Minnesota and PSU, for instance, he was making safeties move with his eyes, then hitting guys on perfect post routes. I honestly think it's just a matter of confidence. When he starts making mistakes or when receivers start dropping balls, he seems to wilt and los his edge. He'll lock on a guy, thinking, "I'll throw it to this guy. He hasn't let me down yet!" It's a problem, but one that can (hopefully) be fixed.

Gravatar Suggestion for next post emo song

"Simple Plan - Perfect ". My heard hurts everytime I happen to listen to this, but it suits.

Gravatar I think the smiths song "back to the old house" would be appropriate for last week's game but hopefully not this season.

Also brian, are us out of staters going to get to see your t.v. debut? Radio also?

Gravatar bretk - all this hype and I am getting really disappointed you guys won't be around for psu

Gravatar re: "irish carbombs"...

kindly note that to Irish people the name of this drink is highly offensive...

Bartenders at pubs will likely refuse to serve you if you attempt to order this in Ireland. Its essentially akin to ordering a "September 11th" (or a "kamikaze" in Japan).

terror = bad
guiness + whiskey = good

...you may now resume your general leprechaun-jimmah-is-an-emu-charlie-weis cursing ways.

Gravatar I am seriously considering cancelling my plans and driving in for the Oregon game just to partake in some carbombs...

Think anybody will be selling cheap tickets? :)

Gravatar is it safe to say that if the regular readers of this blog picked a favorite band it would be the smiths? i have been reading this blog since right around the time it started and the more i read it the more i think most of the readers are very much alike: late 20s/early 30s, male, listening to indie music and wearing cool shoes.

jesus, i should get back to work.

Gravatar Alright so yes I go to OSU but I'm not the retardedly biased born and raised scarlet and gray I hate everything dealing with the state of Michigan type (see, I can type the name of it instead of some stupid phrase for it) but I have to say this douche "Pete" on college Jeopardy is wreaking havoc on UM's image.

Gravatar I think Henne was totally unprepared for what ASU was going to do. If I was a betting man, I'd say that they've been preparing for Oregon all pre-season and they know exactly how they want to attack them. My guess is ASU showed some things Henne hadn't seen and wasn't prepared for it (nobody was prepared for it). I think it's much more likely he has a huge bounce back week than he continues to be shaky.

Gravatar @matt k:

i agree but shouldn't he have been able to make adjustments with the coaches at the half and played well in the second half? and the INT he made on the waggle had nothing to do with the scheme ASU played, nor did his underthrown balls.

Gravatar +1 in moving on department.

On the flipside, Donovan McNabb and Kordell Stewart won't induce Grrrr.. that much anymore.

Oregon game is going to be a closely contested shootout. Hopefully we eliminate the penalties. Defense can't be expected to stop them.. but atleast it should be a hurdle..

No mistakes..turnovers, I see a closely contested game. Still not optimistic enough. But I'll be cheering for our Wolverines.

Gravatar The Smiths is great to help cope, but while you're on a Smiths kick, why not use That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore for the next post? It may be their most appropriate song for this type of sentiment.

Gravatar was the song called "death of a disco dancer" or "death of a defensive coordinator?"

Gravatar @ nick f:

Halftime adjustments? What team have you been watching the last 5-8 years? If you and I had been coaching, I'm pretty sure we score 40 second half points. Lloyd and the boys? Not so much. Not that that's a surprise, or anything.

Gravatar One other thing, is that you're right about the horrendous INT, ect. I've noticed that when Henne gets off to a good start, he plays an outstanding game. When he struggles to get going, he never really gets going. That's something the coaches should know, and another reason we should have, oh I dunno, been preparing to play ASU instead of Oregon/ND/PSU. Dammit this is frustrating.

Gravatar re: App St. The poll only considers I-A teams. I'm sure there's a thriving I-AA blogpoll out there somewhere.

Gravatar Jim Cramer just jumped all over UM's loss to ASU on Mad Money. CNBC was my only refuge, next to cartoons.

All this talk of Guiness makes me really wish I was headed to AA for the game rather than Chicago for a wedding this weekend. I am, however, staying at W, so I got that going for me.

Gravatar What's the BlogPoll methodology for resolving ties? Georgia, Va Tech and Ohio State all have 14.5 PPB, and are ranked 10, 11 and 12 - shouldn't they all be tenth?

Gravatar @matt k.:

matt, my point is that most of henne's problems had nothing to do with being unprepared. if it were simply his not being prepared correctly by the coaches, explain to me the INT on the waggle? or the terrible underthrows. even the bomb to mario on the second to last play was very underthrown. that is not preparation. that is a QB playing poorly.

and, if the coaches can't prepare him over the course of several months for ASU, which coaches are coming into prepare him for oregon in ONE week?

might henne play well? sure. but i doubt it will be preparation that will do it. his performance against ASU was 1 part preparation and 4 parts henne playing badly, imho.

Gravatar crap, today was Wednesday wasn't it....damn Labor Day

I'll get mine in on time next week.

Gravatar so which part of the phs parking lot will said guinness + irish whiskey commence?

ooh, and please oh please make sure you pour my guinness with a pinky's width bishop's collar!

Gravatar ColoradoBlue (or anyone else who saw it), what did Cramer say? That might have been interesting...or just irritating.

Gravatar Just in case any of you haven't heard this one before:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=n8bzZEtOcb8

Good stuff. I thought of it when I watched him throw the INT that the UFR reminded me of.

And: No, I'm not worried about tempting the fates...not at all. This is all the haterade I'm gonna pour on you...for now.

Gravatar Holy shit, that song was really catchy.

Gravatar Scott,
Some guy called in and gave the stupid, obligatory "A Michigan Wolverine Booyah, Jim!" Before he could even start in with his question, Jim jumped all over him, "A Appalacian State Booyah back at you!... How can you even leave your house?! What a meltdown!..." yadda, yadda

It was both annoying and appropriate at the same time. The guy asked about some mortgage company, and even I could've told him to sell that one.

Gravatar El Caballo de Sangre,

If I had to guess, the tie between Georgia, OSU, and VT was broken this way.

10. Georgia because they have more first place votes.
11. Ohio State because they have a lower standard deviation than VT. This means there a more consensus choice for that spot.
12. Virginia Tech because they have a higher standard deviation than Ohio State.

That, or they were just ordered alphabetically.
