Rivals has Campbell listed at 327. Either way the kid is going to be HUGE by the time he gets to campus... Maybe we will also be "giant DT" school.

Speaking of early commits - basketball players recieve offers and commit in eighth grade? What are the whole rules with offers and commits? (or are there any?)
I would never let my kid commit this early, that is just crazy. For god sakes anything could happen in 5 years.

Hey Brian,
I am trying to find your email, put the "Email Me" link doesn't do anything for me, so I was wondering if you could give it to me. I am making plans to come to AA for my first live UM game this fall and I had some questions I am sure you can answer (tickets, lodging, etc) Thank you so much for all you help in advance. My email is baushjk@yahoo.com.

Thanks again Brian!!

Gravatar It's been said before, but it needs repeating: John Pollack is the guy who loves Michigan SOOOOOOOO much that he attended Stanford. Which of course entitles him to speak for Michigan fans everywhere, dontcha think?

Gravatar There aren't a whole lot of instances when the word "quixotic" is applicable when you aren't talking about 17th century Spanish literature. Thus, seeing it correctly employed in a discussion of Michigan football (while not describing the coach) is beautiful.

Gravatar I have not seen On Notice Board in the off season, but upon its return I would like to suggest "Fall Weddings". One friend every year just has to do it.

Gravatar I always liked this headline:

http://www.wsoctv.com/mlb/132220...064/ detail.html

Gravatar In fairness to Pollack and Carty, the regents shouldn't be scheduling meetings where important or controversial decisions are made at the last minute in an attempt to quell opposition. Even if most people agree that the renovations are a good thing, people's minority views should be heard by regents. I think there is something to be said for allowing the minority opposition it's time to speak on record to those in power.

The fact that there is no real opposition should give the regents even more incentive to take the high road and give whoever wants to time to make their case and prevent charges of ignoring public sentiment.

Gravatar I always preferred the headline once featured on Jay Leno's Headlines:

"Tight end returns after colon surgery."

Gravatar I really like Rust. 3rd round might be optimistic, but I think he's going to be a guy that we're all really happy is in our lineup (especially if he brings his brother with him!). We really missed Dewey when he left. Hopefully Rust IS a similar type of player in college.

Gravatar I don't know the exact circumstances surrounding adding the final renovations vote to the meeting, but nothing in the article said it was done at the last minute. In fact, the quote:

"The slots for public comments were already filled when he learned the stadium issue had been put on the agenda."

makes it sound like the list was open for a while and Pollack didn't get around to signing his name on it in time. Are the regents supposed to send him an embossed invitation to attend the meeting? Then again, that could be the situation as seen through my luxury-box-glass glasses.

Gravatar "The two most important votes on this project, the initial vote and now this final vote, have both been added to the agenda at essentially the last moment, seemingly in a move to stifle debate and opposition."

i was just going by this. When i read this from Carty's article it seemed like the regents had plopped the vote into a meeting's agenda at "the last moment". I don't know if this is Carty's bias. I'm for the changes to the stadium, i just think there's a right way and a wrong way for the regents to behave, and if what Carty says is true i don't think they are acting appropriately.

Gravatar I am sure one of these kids are post 1990 born. Painful reminder that my prime might be past me.

Gravatar Stephen Ross now has over 200,000 Priority Points in the Preferred Seating Program. Do you think that means he gets to sit in Fritz Crisler's seat?

Gravatar I don't have strong feelings about the renovations either way, but I agree that the regents have not been models of transparency during this process. Their prior vote was a last-minute tack-on. Why they couldn't have allowed unlimited public comments on this, I don't know. Like a lot of public bodies, their comments period includes a fair number of nut-jobs with weird personal axes to grind. The time in these regents' meetings is not particularly valuable; their meetings generally feel like student government for grown ups. Put this vote on an advance agenda, open it up, let people say what they want, then vote. That's how public bodies are supposed to function.

Gravatar I don't care if this vote is at the last minute, first minute or 17th minute. The plans have been bogged down at the Board of Regents for over a year. How many times does Pollock get to make the same dumbass argument over and over?

Gravatar Jeff,

+1. That was most excellent.

Gravatar No Gold Cup coverage? Anyway, I know we're up 2-0 going into the half, but this team doesn't look like they've gotten over their issues from the World Cup, which was mostly a matter of maintaining a coherent attack and finishing it. I really like Dempsey and Johnson, so far, but I want to see them get a shot on goal at least. I don't believe either has thus far. Aside from that, I'm willing to call the mistakes in the back anomalous, as, in general, they've been able and seem to be capable of shut down defense. The question is how long an elite striker will elude us?

Gravatar I really hate Landon Donovan. What a turd.

Gravatar Long time reader, first time writing a comment.

I have come around and realized that the renovations of Michigan Stadium are a good thing. However, the way the regents have handled the matter hasn't been entirely fair or forthright. The regents waited until the summer this year and the previous year to vote on the stadium - when there is less public interest in university dealings, a reduced student body, and no Michigan Daily to write editorials (Godbless Spring Semester for that). Both stadium votes were added on last minute to these meetings and regardless of what your feelings are on the renovation - this is not how the issue should be handled. This is sneaky. Multi-million dollar construction projects should not be sneaky.

I understand Brian has said there very little opposition and this may be true. But it's fair to ask, if there is so little opposition, why have the regents held their two most meaningful stadium votes in this near-clandestine matter?

Open debate/dissent/dialog on an issue that effects over 107,501 fans every Saturday should be encouraged. I agree that many of the arguments of Pollack are hollow. But what about members of the university that are NOT Pollack that have legitimate comments about the overall stadium plan. I know several faculty who were disappointed with the design and it had nothing to do with faux notions of egalitarianism. Others I talked to were upset about the cost, as this is an academic institution first and foremost. I personally like the stadium plans and do see the potential revenue created by suites as a positive for non-revenue sports, but voices of the university community deserve fair notice to weigh-in on university issues.

In sum, I back the renovations, disagree with Pollack, but find it laughable if Brian is defending the regents' actions through more Pollack attacks.

Gravatar the bottom line is if people don't like how the regents handled this, then let them know in November. vote them off the board. they also all have websites w/ email, etc.

it's the same as US congess, president, etc....these people work to get reelected. let's just hope the construction crews don't have a guy named paulie walnuts working 'cleanup.'

Gravatar I think it is great they are rennovating but I can't help but agree with Jordan, something just smells fishy because of the way they handled it.

Gravatar Re: Stadium Renovations

Martin and the administration took the only road that led to a better stadium. Pollack, as well as others of that ilk, would do nothing but slow the inevitable in search of a ideal that no longer is possible for an elite FBS (formerly Div 1A) program.

Gravatar I wouldn't necessarily attribute specific malice or suspicious motive to the way regents handled the stadium renovation proposal given that it's not historically unusual for the regents to pull stunts like this.

In fact, compared to the way regents used to handle things in the 90s e.g. James Duderstadt hiring etc. decision making by the regents in the last few years have been practically a model of transparency and fairness.

Everything is relative of course.

Gravatar This is from the AA News story today:

"Five people voiced opinions supporting the stadium renovations during the public comments portion of the meeting, held in the Fleming Administration Building."

Somehow, despite the nefarious scheming of the board, these people were able to find their way on to the agenda and comment on the stadium plans.

Gravatar Brian -

As a Celtic Supporter I for one celebrate the club's efforts and hope (what - hope is not a plan), no, expect that the Michigan Stadium upgrades will improve the intensity and electric atmosphere to at least one tenth of Parkhead during a Celtic - Ranger fixture.

Imagine there being a 20' open perimeter surrounding the visiting team supporters with day-glow yellow jacket clad security two deep on all four sides. Imagine a separate entrance for visiting team supporters so as not to cause a pre or post game riot. Imagine 100,000 plus Wolverine faithful on their feet singing songs about how the opposing team and their despicable supporters wronged us in some minor historical event from 100 plus years ago and how, no matter what success we have, we will never forget. That my friend is home field advantage.

How's that for linking two completely different subjects together?

Lastly, it should be noted that Robbie Savage and Craig Bellamy have four years of eligibility and would make a great PK / Punter combination. Imagine our kicking game with an injection of Welsh attitude........Since Pollack can speak for all of us with regards to our wants and needs for the stadium renovation I think I will start negotiating on behalf of the University on a loan with Blackburn Rovers.

Gravatar Let me get this straight. Pollack is going to use the ADA to hold up renovations that will invariably make the stadium more ADA compliant in an effort to keep the stadium in its current 1927 "egalitarian" non-ADA condition?

Gravatar Speaking of headlines, I think it's time for the unbridled hilarity of a caption contest. Those are always good for days of fun during the summer doldrums.

Gravatar MBandCH,

I assume you mean for these two to play after our Dearly Beloved Romanian Overlord has shuffled off his collegian coil.

Gravatar Zoltan, the special one, feels that the addition of Savage from Blackburn Rovers and Bellamy from Liverpool will only enhance his greatness. So speaketh the special one.
