I think that you can count on ND returning to its winning ways in the very near future. With the coaching in place, great recruiting by Weis and Brown, and a new winning swagger I believe that ND is going to be a force to be reckoned with for awhile.

It is an announcement of the Big Ten Network by the Big Ten Conference. The
president of the network along with the chair of the conference will be
there to announce it. Comcast will have it, but you have to add it to your
plan.
an event i was invited to to take place on Aug. 8. Any confirmation? Did BTN fold to Comcast's refusal to put it on basic?

McGuffie will not climb to five stars in the recruiting service ratings because that's not how the recruiting industry works. McGuffie is a solid commit; he's no longer interesting. The ratings services will spend their energy hyping the uncommitted recruits in an effort to keep potential subscribers interested in the process. As long as Baldwin remains uncommitted, he stands a chance of rising to five stars (especially since Notre Dame is on his list).

re: missing names
Interesting how these things never really "officially" come to light. Seems to lend itself to plenty of speculation, although, of course, if it were negative news for the program, I suppose I'd rather not have any formal announcement. Suppose its also not the most positive for the players, but at least if it weren't something like getting kicked off, they could announce their intent to transfer...

Living in Canada, I don't have access to any of the espns BTN or otherwise, The regional game of interest would usually be Michigan because, Detroit was our choice of American hubs, the women mangled our satellite choices though and now I'm stuck with Boston. I had intended on subscribing to game plan ONLINE, but this doesn't seem worth it now. ANY suggestions as to how I can get Michigan football games? Baring a move back to Chicago I'm at a loss..

I'm still baffled by the Pierre Woods thing. He'd play about three plays a game his senior year, and he'd have a sack, a TFL and a FF. And then he'd go sit next to the Gatorade for the rest of the afternoon. He must have pulled a Lionel Hutz or something.
Hutz: Well, he’s kind of had it in for me ever since I accidentally ran over his dog.
Marge: You did?
Hutz: Actually, replace “accidentally” with “repeatedly,” and replace “dog” with “son.”

It doesn't really matter whether McGuffie ends up with 5 stars or 4 stars or 1 star. What matters is how well he plays for U-M, and whether he gets elevated to 5-star status won't affect that whatsoever.
I get the impression that recruiting for some folks is for purposes of bragging to co-workers who root for other teams ("see, this McGuffie guy vaulted a defender and he's got 5 stars. I'm a better person than you because I root for a school who got a verbal from a 5-star RB").

I think it is unlikely Mcguffie even breaks the Rivals 100. Four stars are given rankings of 5.8, 5.9, or 6.0. 6.0s are top 100 guys who do not get the fifth star. McGuffie is a 5.9, so I always assumed he was one of the last four stars left out of the 100. However, he is ranked the # 17 player in Texas by rivals, and only the top ten guys in Texas are in the top 100. That means there are at least six 5.9 guys from just Texas that rank ahead of him. There is no telling how far outside the top 100 Rivals has him, but he would have to make up a lot of ground with those obstinate national analysts to make it.

Pat Massey. Seriously.

one of my coworkers (At a PR firm in Michigan) invited me to an event, through facebook, for basically a Big Ten Network coming out party. She is helping with the event apparently and says Big Ten Network will be offered on Comcast as an add-on. I can't confirm this farther than that though

Completely frivolous, but in the Michigan dynasty of 07 I had where Donovan Warren was one of my recruits, I gave him number 6. I just liked the look of that number on a cornerback.
So that's kinda cool.

When Michigan announced its incoming letters of intent, they had 82 scholarships committed for the 2007 season (83 counting Alan Branch, who would announce that he was headed for the NFL).
Of those 82, 9 are not on the roster right now--Butler, Forcier, Germany, McKinney, Mixon, Patilla, Richards, Schifano and Woods. That leaves only 73 "true" scholarship players.
I don't to know what to make of this, but I certainly don't remember Michigan ever going into a season with 12 unused scholarships.

re: Woods. The popular rumor, and I have no clue whether it's true, is that he popped a red-jersey-wearing Matt Gutierrez in practice, and that's why we ended up starting Henne as a freshman. I love Henne and all, but I think it's fair to speculate that U-M's 16-8 record in 2004-05 could have been 19-5ish (at least) with a more experienced quarterback. Specifically, the ND and OSU games in '04 and pretty much all the games in '05 could have flipped around with better QB play. Not that Henne has anything to be embarrassed about, but, while he was rarely a liability, he didn't have many "great" games, either.
Back to Woods: If there's truth to the rumor, and if Carr agrees that improved QB play would have made different seasons out of '04 and '05, and if he things Gutierrez would have been better than Henne in those years, it's not a stretch to think he'd have punished Woods with a permanent doghousing.
Anyway, I think it's a good policy to come down at least that hard on a defensive player who blows up a quarterback in practice--if that's what happened. You could say keeping a quality player like Woods off the field after he's learned his lesson is making a bad situation worse, but I think a coach would want to be sure everyone else on the team learned the lesson, too.
That's an awful lot to write about something I can't say is true. But it's better than working.

I just bought my son a #15 Michigan jersey on ebay for cheap cheap because as we all know Breaston was worthless. He'll definitely be the first kid on our block with a Mallett jersey. I was in the hunt for a slightly more expensive Leach/Henson/Henne jersey (for my other son) but then at crunch time my boss decided to talk to someone right next to my computer. Someone named Irisheyes (?) got that one.
Anyone know who else has been #15?

I ordered a #15 at Christmas when I was only paritally sure it was going to be a Mallett jersey.
So, you'd think I'd be very happy. But, I'm not going to UM now, so it kind of has the same value to me now as it did then. Dam you tuition.

Rob Up North:
I'm getting Rogers Super Sports Pack again this year. Last year they showed games from ESPN, ESPN2 (woo Pam Ward) and even ESPNU (woo Ball State).
I saw every M game except the CMU thunderstorm. They didn't show any Gameplan games, but that didn't matter unless you wanted to see games like MSU-NW.
rogers.ca has not published its 2007 NCAA football schedule yet though, so I might wait a bit before ordering just to be sure. Strongly doubt they'll get any BTN games though.
