Gravatar Great Odin's raven!

Gravatar You guys notice that McNeal's other leader is Clemson? WTF is going on down there, do they get a complimentary blumpkin when they commit?

And who's Betsy and what's she done to deserve the heavens?

Gravatar Greg Oden's raving!

Gravatar By the beard of zeus!

Gravatar She gave blumpkins to all the angels. She fucked her way a the way to the top.

Gravatar I'm nominating "blumpkin" as the official MGoWord.

Gravatar Shitty day here in NYC. Can the temp crawl above 55? Will the rain stop?

Gravatar Well I'm pretty sure keegan will get stuck in a traffic jam in the pouring down rain today. That always seems to happen on Fridays.

Gravatar Weather is scarily beautiful in AA today...

And I drove by Michigan Stadium today at lunch....man I can't wait for that thing to be done!!

I know this is old, but I still love it: http://lolovivirono.vox.com/libr...ge- mascots.html

Gravatar All this talk about cars and driving made me think of this:

Has everyone seen this?

Gravatar Brooklyn wins.

Gravatar argh. Youtube is blocked at work.

Gravatar brian wtf

Gravatar Ninja,

Have you seen the show Top Gear on the BBC?

It's when they came over to America, and subsequently went to Alabama...

...the rest is pure top-end comedy.

Gravatar No Maize I haven't. I'll chekc it out tonight.

Gravatar When does summer workouts start for Michigan?

Has it already?

summer workouts = samoan death ring

Gravatar Fellas I need your help,

I've had this idea and I know some of you are lawyers or at least smarter than me so maybe you can help. I have always tried to find a UM highlight film for every season. We had made them in HS (they weren't good) but with better film and licensing from the schools and NCAA I had the idea a year ago to start a company that made college football highlight films. No fancy graphics or gangsta rap/emo punk rock shit music. Just simple stuff with slo-mo's, various angles and zoom ins. It's not hard and after a refresher I'd be pretty good with Final Cut. The school could provide the game film for a cut of the sales. My only hang up is music.

I could pay for it, but I'm pretty sure that is insanely expensive.

I could make it, but I don't know how and if I did, I'd be horrible at it.

I don't think I could pay someone at the start to make it for me and I don't think Hans Zimmer does charity work.

I was thinking about using a movie soundtrack style of music but would look more into it. I think (feedback on this too) that it could do well. The CFB blogosphere is huge and well connected and I think schools would be interested as long as they didn't have to do anything other than provide video and get a cut of sales. My buddy really wants me to do it when I graduate, but I don't think it's feasible with out the music. Questions, comments, concerns, legal advice is welcomed. If you need to, you can email me at keegankenfield@hotmail.com

Thanks,

Gravatar Keegan,

http://freeplaymusic.com/

I'm pretty sure this is fair game. Read over the TOS.

Gravatar Keegan:

One idea would be to use original music by up and coming bands. They'd donate the music for free in return for getting exposure. Not sure exactly how you'd find them but I'll do a little research while I'm playing poker this weekend. Just remember, the lack of money may be an obstacle, but it shouldn't keep you from success- it's the lack of IDEAS that'll hinder your success.

As an aside a buddy told me about a site last night called "99designs.com". You submit a description of your company/whatever, start a contest and the people who enter submit designs for you. You give them feedback and they tweak it, winner gets the prize. Pretty sweet site is anyone needs a site designed like I do or if you're a website or graphic designer looking to do some freelance stuff.

Gravatar THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE POSTERS HERE. What is it, you ask? Well it is simply that everyone here is just so...

DUMB!

One jackass starts typing "True Story" aftre writing some stoopid stuff, and every other jackass follows suit.

The way jackasses talk about other people, it's obvious everyone in here thinks they're smart. Newsflash.... you're NOT.

You're stupid enough to waste your time reading and commenting on a blog.

Well, yes I'm dumb too for doing the same thing.

BUT, I'M SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT I'M STUPID. YOU IDIOTS ARE TOO DUMB TO EVEN KNOW YOU'RE DUMB.

That's all.

Gravatar ^^ true story

Gravatar Well, yes I'm dumb too for doing the same thing.

The Spectral Continuum | 05.16.08 - 4:27 pm | #

Quoted for truth.

Gravatar Ninja-

Sorry I wasn't around to help you waste time.

If it's any consolation I think I just blew my shot at hooking up with this smoking hot chick at the event I'm attending unless I can run into her later at the bar or tomorrow afternoon.

Too bad I don't have any Panty Dropper McGee tracks on my iPod.

Gravatar And we should care about your opinion because.....? If you honestly think that I'm going to change my life/habits/opinions because some anonymous guy on the internet told me to than you're an idiot. True fucking story. Seriously, are you closer to Michigan or Washington, because either I or Keegan need to show up on your doorstep and bitchslap you.

Now shutup and go make me a sammich.

Gravatar It's not that we're dumb enough to post on a blog, it's that we're all really bored at work.

Gravatar @Bluewolverine:

What's the situation and how do you think you blew it? If she's that hot and more importantly intelligent and interesting you need to pull out all the stops to make sure you get your chance. Like I told Keegan, it's the lack of ideas that will kill you- so tell me what's up and I'll brainstorm for you until I get to head out at 5:30.

Gravatar ...wonder what will be on the menu at the Big House this weekend? Hope ome o-lineman come away full and Michigan in their top five.

Gravatar That is a good idea Keegan. The NFL has tons and tons of archives--NFL films. The same could be done for CFB.

I doubt it, but there might be potential problems with licensing and shit, but I would check with NCAA rules for one thing. One issue that comes to mind is how in EA Sports games they can't show the names on jerseys. (If you add the names yourself, Nessler will announce them.) Then check with ABC and CBS because they might have exclusive rights to record games (I obviously don't know the exact rules).

Plus there are tons of games going on at any given time. But there aren't as many fans of CFB as there are of NFL. They make these really epic NFL films that they show in specials on ESPN all the time, and I just don't know if CFB films would have the same appeal. If they ended up on ESPNU, BTN, or FSN then it would be a waste.

Gravatar Keegan,

Tim hit a couple of good points. Your biggest impediments are the multiple licensing rights. The biggest one would be the game footage. Think "broadcasts or reproductions of this game shall not be used without the express written consent...." language you hear at the end of each broadcast. NFL Films was successful because they used their own cameras to film the games. Not the broadcasting network footage.

I work with a lot of start-ups. Advising them on securities and captial raising issues. In that vein, I review a lot of business plans. The business plan for something like you propose would have to account for a couple of different cost structures. The single biggest cost would be game footage IMO. But there is music licensing, production costs, distribution, and you would have to find comparable sales for similar products to forecast revenue.

You can count me in as a buyer.

Gravatar Seattle,

We need to talk. I'm interested in law school, probably in a few years, but I am really interested in business as well. I did an internship with a startup company for 2 amazing months before taking this God-forsaken job I currently have, but business (and yes, money) fascinates me. I am new to the whole thing, and I suck at investing, but it's one field that I have found myself interested to learn more about.

I am just wondering what kind of exact roles lawyers can play in businesses, especially with startups.

Gravatar Tim, That would be a pretty long discussion. I was/am the way and thought law school opened more doors than just an MBA. I was in a joint JD/MBA program but started working full time before I could finish the MBA portion (1 semester short). That is a good option to look into if you are considering law school. I think most schools offer those nowadays. It usually adds 1 year to law school. ...but what I really want to do (rather than private practice) is go with one of my clients in-house. Take a bunch of stock and flip the company in about 3-5 years....then keep doing that over and over....mostly from the golf course.

Gravatar Ninja-

Haha I know it's too late, but I'm posting anyway.

Basically this girl just happened to be selling a product I had a legit interest in. She fitted me for it, but I told her I wanted to look around and that I might be back. Lots of smiles, eye contact, and a little blushing. I thought I saw a wedding ring though. Who can tell.

Anyway, I looked around, didn't see anything else I liked more and went back to see this girl. More smiles, more eye contact, more blushing. Lots of questions, and at one point she asks me, "So is product X the only reason you came back?" and I kinda gave an evasive answer.

We have a lot of outdoor interests in common so that was the main topic of conversation. Physically she's at least one to two leagues above me, mainly b/c I can't seem to drop that last 5-10 off my waist.

She mentioned the local hangout of note as the place to go, so I'm hoping to bump into her there when I head out for a late dinner.

Yeah, I fucking suck.

Gravatar So what was the product? By your non-disclosure, I'm guessing it was a strap-on.

Gravatar Actually it was a hermaphrodite Real Doll.

Gravatar Thanks guys,

Seattle,

I knew the licensing would be the biggest hiccup. It's kind of a long-shot idea for me. I thought that I could get the game footage that the university's themselves take for either coaches or DVD's of the game (I have the '04 MSU v UM game). Then, if the school gave me the film for part of the sales, I paid the NCCA licensing, then the music, I might be near the clear. Production I could do myself, it's really not that hard and sales I would just have a site and spread the word through blogs. Longshot, but if someone else does it and hits big, I expect them to buy me a 6 pack some day.

Oh, and that Spectral guy has got to be one of us fucking around. No way anyone would type that and then put "I am just as dumb", unless it was one of us. If it wasn't, I say we chip in for me or Ninja, whoever's closest, to go bitch slap him.

Gravatar By the way, when she asked if you only came back for product X, and you gave an evasive answer, you snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Gravatar Colorado-

Yeah, that's what I figured.

Story of my life.

Gravatar Oer that video, are we really sure that the "enemy of democractacy, the, errr, terrorrorrrorrerts" are in Iraq, and--not--within our own borders DAH DAH DAH

Gravatar I described my job as God forsaken. It's not that bad. I am lucky to have a job and the company itself isn't that bad. The job just isn't the right one for me and I am horribly bored at work.

Gravatar Why should the invasive answer completely mess up his chances? Don't make her seem too important, but don't seem like you're lying. I don't know what I'd say. Something snappy and sarcastic would be good, would it? (I'm asking you, Ninja and Colorado.)

I was in a similar situation myself. I think it is kind of hard with merchants. I find it hard to know if they're just trying to, you know, sell you stuff i.e. do their job. Anyways, I love JCrew girls. They're usually hot and I hooked up with a girl last year who worked there. So I was at one store back home because I need clothes to wear--that's what I do--and the girls were so damn cute. I was hitting on one, and I'm a fairly attractive guy, but I just couldn't do it. I didn't know if she was just being nice. I also suck at hitting on girls. I'm spacey and I sometimes suffer from what most guys suffer from--I don't know what to say.

Any tips on how to handle sales girls?

Gravatar Here's what I'd do (so do the opposite). Something witty and sarcastic, so she knows it's a joke, but so she doesn't quite get it. Then she feels a little dumb, and is vulnerable, yet slightly turned on cause you're funny and smart. Again, do the opposite. So slap her ass and tell her she's a bad girl and you'll make her good. That should work.

Gravatar Thanks! I'll be sure to try that one. I have big hands, so it should work. Maybe we can use the changing room.

Gravatar I am so desperate to leave work and get drunk, I am actually starting to feel drunk. Maybe it's the dehydration since it's in the 80's here and it's a shock since my skin hasn't seen sun in months.

Gravatar "She fitted me for it,"

C'mon, for god's sake: fitted for what? A fake leg? Hearing aid? Toupee? Colostomy bag? External pacemaker? Glasses? Butt plug? Ear plugs? Iron-on tattoo? 3-piece suit? Handcuffs? Unicycle? Chastity belt? Glass eye?

Gravatar Got 99 problems, but a bitch ain't one.

Gravatar Excellent rhetoric by the commentors at Blue Gray Sky for the pathetic showing in the fundraiser:

"Not one red cent of the "I-am-a-superior-human-being-because-I-gave-money- to-a-hopeless-cause" fund drive will go where it is needed. China doesn't need it since everything in the entire world is purchased from them and they are flush with cash. And Burma has quite possibly the most heartless government in the world, and is actually happy to have a half-million less people to feed."

Yeah. That's why UM, OSU and even SMU fans donated. They want to be recognized for their superiority.

What a bunch of backwardsass dumbass Domers.

Gravatar the softball game was outstanding tonight. 1st pitch of game == HR for Wright St. M was down 2-3 all game till the 6th. down 5-3, load the bases, GS. a few more hits, runs, load the bases again, GS mercy rule EOG.

ND vs M tomorrow.

Can we get guesses for what occupation brian says he has when attempting the pick up at the wedding/reception? i'm pretty sure 'blogger' has yet to be shown to get anyone anywhere in that dept.

my vote: lion tamer.

Gravatar first

Gravatar "Colostomy bag" is the MGoWord of the day!

By the way, my take on the saleslady question: fuck it; be direct. I'm a happily married guy, but damn if I don't look back on all the chances I blew 'cause I over-strategized the come-on.

Gravatar blogs suck on friday night.

Gravatar "She fitted me for it,"

C'mon, for god's sake: fitted for what? A fake leg? Hearing aid? Toupee? Colostomy bag? External pacemaker? Glasses? Butt plug? Ear plugs? Iron-on tattoo? 3-piece suit? Handcuffs? Unicycle? Chastity belt? Glass eye?

Ladies, gentlemen, and fellow assholes (Keegan), THIS is the comment of the month.

@Bluewolverine:

Dude you're killing me. I sincerely hope you're out at the bar with that girl right now, because the "is this the only reason you came back" line was her fishing for you to hit on her.

Gravatar then she said "you look really hot in those jeans". this story is all bs. just sayin...

Gravatar And that's not an indictment on you- I had a bit of a diatribe about hitting on women, but I'd be a bit remiss to put it on here just because it's so public.

Gravatar \UFR of the West Virginia-Rutgers game//

VRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!

Gravatar Wimmins is simple. Fickle and fucked in the head, but simple.

Be normal, funny and engaging. Don't suck. No obscure references, no dipshit-in-lust behavior. Don't be a creepy boogereater. Don't be sensitive, just respectful. Flirting is good, but no pressure, no scams, no schmaltz.

Then close the deal and enjoy the sweet taste of Tang.

Gravatar DanK,

You failed to mention that was two Grand Slams in the same inning. Awesome game for softball.

As for the pickup job, I'm going with snake oil salesman. it seems to work with recruits. I would have said strength coach but i think all of us realize none of us compare to barwis.

port is one hell of a wine. 40 proof and delicious to the palate.

Gravatar a 30-something oz Dos Equis at a Mexican reataurant, 4 or 5 ice cold Blues by the fire, a glass of Erath with the wife, and I'm 2 cocktails short of demanding anal.

Rrrright.

Gravatar Big10 tourney looks like we will get either Penn State, Northwestern, or Indiana. Indiana could spell trouble as they are playing extremely well right now. I think we can handle Penn State easily. Northwestern was the first team to shut us out today, but I don't expect them to be as tough in the tournament. OSU still has a shot at being the team we play as well. Its much more of a long shot.

Now to find train tickets back for Friday night to see those games.

Gravatar My sources confirm that Keith Nichol has made contact with MSU and has decided to play for the Spartans.

so says schemblogger. i knew he wasn't coming to M.

Gravatar Of course Nichol wasn't coming to AA, RR has said no more QB will be recruited, he may still take athletes but no pure QB.

oO(In the future just tell any girl your hot on, that of course you want her, as anyone who didn't want her would be a fool, gay or a liar, so of course you want her...)

Gravatar Of course Nichol wasn't coming to AA, RR has said no more QB will be recruited, he may still take athletes but no pure QB.

Have we ever actually seen a quote of him saying this or is it just something floating around the interweb?

DanK: What's Schemblogger's m.o.? Is he usually right on this kind of stuff?

Gravatar not sure.... but it passes my sniff test, i.e., it's logical.

Gravatar mcneal...finally

Gravatar yes mcneal!

Gravatar That's pretty disappointing about Nichol. I saw him play in high school and thought he was legit.

Ah well... you win some and lose some, but we've got Newsome!

Gravatar Fuck yeah, McNeal. Another Rivals100 recruit to our stable. So much for RichRod ignoring prototype WRs, you overdramatic bastards.

And I think the new headline on this blog should read like this:

"Scout and Rivals, kiss my dick"

Gravatar "kiss my dickrod"

Gravatar *nods head in agreement* Well done.

As long as it hammers the point home that Brian was right, and they're congadouches.

Gravatar hell yeah this is a great pickup, even though it was bound to happen any day. here on mgoblog i know i'm in safe company, so when I say that i have been looking forward to BBQ that RR and co. are throwing today, its a bit of an understatement. i'm hoping for 1 or 2 more pickups..

Gravatar woohooo...another good pickup!

Gravatar McNeal McLovin'

Gravatar Makes me glad I come here for my info instead of paying those guys 10 bucks. "Real Deal"McNeal!!!!!

Gravatar Disappointed there was no "We're late to the party, but Michigan picked up a commit..." They take cheap shots at Brian, but no recognition that a "lowly blogger" beat us to this news type headline/teaser.....Sad

Gravatar Damn it Red Wings, what are you doing?

Gravatar they gave brian shit because he reported the commitment before it happened. over the last 2 months everyone (rivals, scout, brian) knew that McNeal was coming to UofM.

Gravatar beantownblue i will see you at game 7 tomorrow.

Gravatar now that RR has recruited many skill positions, I hope the focus shifts to DBs, particularly DEs.

Gravatar It's funny how you guys are so up in arms about Brian reporting something incorrectly.

What if a New York newspaper printed "Giants win Super Bowl!" back in December?

Yeah, it eventually happened. But it didn't happen when it was reported. The fact is, Brian's report was erroneous. It's cool. Everyone makes mistakes. Brian is usually right. But that doesn't mean he's infallible.

Gravatar if you present speculation and label it as such, you cant be either right or wrong.

Gravatar How the fuck can you draw a parallel between prematurely declaring a Super Bowl victory and calling a guy a Michigan commit based on his articles, quotes and entire myspace page being adorned in M logos? If the trophy handlers back in December had already etched "New York" onto the Lombardi trophy, and left off the "Giants"(knowing damn well the Jets weren't going anywhere)...then maybe it would compute.

Not being abrasive, just curious.

Gravatar Here's a quote from Brian's blog post on McNeal's commitment:

"McNeal is the first outside receiver in this class and will probably be joined by another guy at his position (Texas's Josh Gordon?) and one or two more slot guys depending on where Teric Jones ends up. He's Michigan's fourth Rivals 100 recruit this year."

This was not presented as speculation. It was presented as fact. Therefore, it can be wrong. And it was.

Gravatar @ Huss

How about this? What if the Boston papers had said, "New England wins Super Bowl!"

Most everyone thought the Patriots would win the Super Bowl. But they didn't.

A lot of people thought we would get Ronald Johnson. A lot of people thought we would get Nick Perry. But they never committed.

Gravatar Also, Terrelle Pryor wore a Michigan sweatshirt to the Army All-American Bowl and this board - and others - lit up with speculation that he would commit to Michigan.

We all know how that turned out.

Gravatar henne, despite my location i haven't lived here long enough to 1) be a boston sports fans and more importantly 2) see my absolute hatred towards boston fans subside yet

Gravatar and as michigan fans it is duty to always be pessimistic and exude the utmost doubt in our program but god damn, 8 commits already!?! Four 4*s and a 5*!!! we got 4 top 100 players already and its only mid-May. hell yes dickrod. keep serving up the snake oil to any recruits who need a drink.

Gravatar *it is our duty

Gravatar So apparently Dhani Jones is selling ties and bowties....

www.fivestarties.com

Seriously.

Gravatar Thanks for all the advice, but I just got H-bombed.

Husband.

Looks like I was right about the ring after all.

Oh well.

Gravatar has anyone see the highlight tapes for bryce mcneal? his QB is pretty good..

Gravatar by Josh Helmholdt

Another high profile visitor in Ann Arbor today to take in the festivities put on by the Michigan football program was Fort Wayne (Ind.) Homestead linebacker Jordan Barnes. Accompanied by both of his parents, Barnes could not stay for the entire event, but did get to see many of the sights. [details]

Who is this kid?

Gravatar Barnes is an inside linebacker prospect. He doesn't have an offer yet, but he said if Michigan offers, they'd immediately be in his top two.

Gravatar "This was not presented as speculation. It was presented as fact. Therefore, it can be wrong. And it was."

It was? I see McNeal listed as "commit"

You love being contrarian for the hell of it. Fogeddaboutit. Brian was wrong, despite all the evidence to the contrary. Let's play tummysticks.

Gravatar @ Huss

Apparently, you love being ignorant for the hell of it.

Brian reported McNeal committed a couple weeks ago.

He didn't.

If I say today, "Barack Obama won the Presidential election!" it won't be true. If he wins it in November, that doesn't the change the fact that I was wrong.

You cannot argue facts. Stop trying. Brian was wrong. We're all wrong at one point or another. Get over it.

Gravatar henne/magnus-- Michigan offered Barnes yesterday

Gravatar and we're now his favorite, his 'top' as he put it

Gravatar @ beantown

Sweet. Thanks for the update.

Gravatar #100 dumb comments of dumb on the wall, 100 dumb comments of dumb!

Gravatar Barnes...

I don't know, a 3 star scout LB prospect and not rated on rivals.

plus the guy has miny tits.

think he sucks.

he can go to alabama.

Gravatar Barnes looks like a solid hitter, but he's not a very fluid athlete. And I'm 99% sure his listed 4.5 time in the forty is exaggerated. I'd be surprised if he runs anything below a 4.7.

Gravatar @Bluewolverine:

You know what dude- at least you tried. Kudos to you sir for having the balls to take a shot. A lot of people would've pussed out and been pissed at themselves for the next week.

Cock D, Dhani has gotta be in my all-time top 5 players. That guy is awesome.

Gravatar And I'm 99% sure his listed 4.5 time in the forty is exaggerated. I'd be surprised if he runs anything below a 4.7.

Have you seen this kid run in person or something?

Gravatar Well, considering most 40 times are exaggerated...

...and the fact that he looks injured on film when he runs...

...I seriously doubt his 4.5 time. If that's his serious time, that means a fair number of elite athletes in the NFL wouldn't be able to catch him. Not very likely.

Gravatar just don't think this barnes kid will be any good. call it intuition.

Gravatar Did anyone else see Corey Brown's interview on GBW?

http://vids.myspace.com/ index.cf...ideoID=31056056

Not to dis his english speaking skills, but what the hell is he saying? And he looks all tough in his rivals picture; complete opposites.

Gravatar Also, according to GBW UM leads for Corey Brown, but one call from Tressel and the ole boy is gone.

Gravatar Oh never mind

Corey Brown just got offered by OSU, what a surprise.

Tressel thinking he's smooth by stealing potential UM recruits.

Gravatar handle jack!

Gravatar 40 times listed on Rivals are complete bullshit. All they have to do is ask the kid what his 40 time is and they take it as a gospel. I remember in high school, everyone bragged about running 4.4s and 4.5s. It was utter BS. Now you've DTs on Rivals listed at 4.7. Oh God, that is rich.

The only halfway legit 40 times on there are the official camp times with the little "r" next to them. I give that just a smidge of credit. You see, McGuffie actually ran a 4.33...he didn't report that he did.

Gravatar Follow up Magnus: Ignorance is assuming he hasn't been committed to Michigan all along. It is completely fair to say Brian called it well before everyone did, and he just made a scene out of it at the BBQ. But again, I'm talkin to the Skip Bayless of the mgoblog comments section, so carry on.

Gravatar Corey Brown seems like a good kid in that interview, just shy as hell.

Gravatar Corey Brown was offered by OSU on Monday or so. He was jacked, well, let me let Corey tell you how he felt and where he stands right now (I snagged him for an interview right after he finished with that last one)

Barking Sphincter: Cory, I hear Ohio State offered you a scholarship, how does that make you feel, and are you going to take a serious look at them?

Cory: Wjhehkjh, hehe mmsnns mnnmmanblmemen djdh man ball, and kadfhjjdh mnmnngi hahaha yeah.

Barking Sphincter: Corey, from what I gather, Michigan is still your #1, am I right?

Cory: Jjhdljnneminb blimpininnnity. sheeyit Yeah.

Barking Sphincter: Cory, you look like you weigh about 120 lbs and I'm 5'8 and I'm two inches taller than you. What's up with that?

Cory: Jkhhdyytnhmm mne pooty bwaoond YEAH.

Barking Sphincter: Cory, mind if I shove this microphone up your ass?

Cory: Nnohheym. Yeah.

Barking Sphincter: SHOVE!

Cory: Holy hell, there my good man! That is certainly uncomfortable up there! I guess you have no appreciation for my attempt to sound "down with the homeys", so I'll just say this: I visited the esteemed University of Michigan campus Friday, May 16th, in the year of our lord, 2008. And I loved it! I am actaully going to major in Biochemiphycics and structural engineering while studying philosophy. I love Michigan, they are the leading school right now. I would enjoy matriculating there. Cherry o, chap! Now, could you please pull this microphone out of my arse? And don;t tell my "homeys" I speak percet English. I could never live that down.

Barking Sphincter: This has been The Barking Sphincter for the Mgoblog football network.

Gravatar who moved my who moved the cheese book?

Gravatar Does Steven Threet remind anyone else of Joey Harrington when he talks?

eeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww

Gravatar I love how Mike Shaw is one of the fastest dudes ever, he is going to tear up the field and have people run circles around him. yeah baby!

Gravatar Corey Brown speaks jive! That's awesome. Get a fucking afro on this kid ASAP!

Where is Mrs. Beaver when you need her?

Gravatar @ Barking Sphincter

that's hilarious.

@ JHS

Tracks speed doesn't necessarily translate into on the field speed. In track, you just run as fast as you can and stay in your lane (not too much thinking involved). On the field you have to follow the route and be able to stop on the dime and juke in all directions. Meaning: you gotta have complete control of your body on the football field.

Ted Ginn was a good returner, but his WR skills were lacking.

Gravatar I haven't posted anything all day.

The Saturday jacker is back.

Gravatar Baseball finished 26-5 in the B10 regular season eclipsing the record # of B10 reg. season wins, formerly held by osu.

according to Ping!, if M wins the tourney, they 'should' be a top 8 national seed. im not sure about that, but it should get us to hosting an ncaa regional.

fyi, this is all via bigten hardball. a great site. i hope to go thurs & shake that guys hand. a dedicated B10 baseball blogger.

B10 tourney starts WED, M plays thurs at 7pm. tix are like $5. it's a good time when the weather coops.

also, please don't post softball spoilers from Sat, i taped it. just till tomorrow around lunchtime. yes, i do recognize that i have a problem.

finally, short story. wife & i go to the Wheel of Fortune tryouts, for shits & giggles & to hang out w/o the kid for a day. no news, except to say that the demographic for WoF is a bit scary. the 'normies' weren't outnumbered, but it was close enough to feel a bit uncomfortable. on a totally coincidental & unrelated note, it was about 60-40 in favor of MSU fans.

Normally, I find you a reasonable and intelligent commenter. So I'll chalk up today's failure to understand English to being hung over or a recent fall down the stairs. Hopefully, when you're thinking in a more logical manner, you'll realize how much nonsense you spewed in my direction for no good reason at all.

Gravatar I agree with Magnus

Gravatar Saw a "Worst State Ever" shirt at the baseball doubleheader Friday night. Many fine MGoStore products out and about in Ann Arbor.

You'll enjoy the softball game, DanK. Don't look at the Ann Arbor News if you don't want a spoiler. There were several articles prominently placed this morning. I was pleased and surprised.

Gravatar Marley Powers sold her soul to the devil... that's the only explanation. great game.

Gravatar On a sidenote, Michigan's club lacrosse team won the national championship. In this article (http://www.collegelax.us/news/2008/05/17/pursuit- of-perfection/)
the players rave that one of the leading reasons for their success this year was one of the new strength and conditioning coaches that came over with RRod. My cousin is on the team and he told me in person the same thing.

Anyway, it goes to show how much of a difference S&C coaches can make. Granted club lacrosse is not near the level of varsity football, but you get the idea.

Gravatar Bryce McNeal committs!

Gravatar Anyone know if Dylan Farrington (Adrian, MI) has a Michigan offer? Rivals says that he has "high" interest in Michigan and MSU.

It's awesome that we got Bryce McNeal.

Gravatar I read the other day that Farrington doesn't have an offer yet. He might be one of those kids who earns an offer at summer camp or once his senior year starts and they get a chance to see him play. From what I've read, he still needs to fill out some. He's only 220-225 pounds right now.

Gravatar position?

Great work my the lax team. did they lose a game all year? it's way past their time to go varsity.

Gravatar He's the face-off specialist and, yes, they didn't lose a game all season. 20-0.

In other news, I heard that Tate Forcier's offer has been withdrawn. To be honest, I liked Forcier better than Newsome and Beaver, but this QB class is still excellent.

Gravatar @ DanK

If you're asking about Farrington's position, he's a weakside DE.

Gravatar Farrington's position, i mean. i'm a little surprised they withdrew forcier's offer. seems hasty... why not leave to offer out there and just not recruit him hard?

Gravatar DanK,

Hope you got to shake BTHB's Brian's hand. Guy's doing great work. It's been my stop of choice right after mgoblog the last three weeks. I've actually been posting more on there than here as of late.

I'm trying to figure out our rotation going into the tournament. I'd assume Fetters as the only team in the tournament he lost to was Indiana. Even in that game he was sharp giving up 2 runs in 6+ innings. His start against NU was less than spectacular but only 2 of the 4 runs were earned (over 5 innings). Putnam goes game in the second game for sure. That leaves Jenzen or Katzman for the next round. I'm feeling less and less comfortable about the 3/4 slots. Jenzen's been the long relief guy coming in after Fetters recently. This has left Katzman, a not so amazing starter as the #3. The fourth game has been a hodgepodge of pitchers. Anyone that can throw has seemed to pitch on Sunday recently. This Sunday was a little different in that there were some guys who hadn't thrown in a while and Maloney just wanted some time on the hill before the tournaments start (Adam Abraham).

I'm still a bit apprehensive about our defense too.

Errors by Month:
Feb 16-March 16: 23 in 14 games (1.6/game)
March 16-Apr 16: 16 in 18 games (0.9/game)
Apr 16- present: 38 in 22 games (1.7/game)

Gravatar Some of that increase has been Recknagel at the plate, though, right? Is it just an acceptable trade-off to have his and Dufek's bats in the lineup?

Gravatar Wonder who's putting out there that Forcier's offer has been rescinded, it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Also DanK, did you see where Nichol's dad said they haven't made a decision and no one's been ruled out yet? It was in the same story in the Freep that mentioned Sparty's 4th stringer leaving on Friday.

Gravatar Yeah here's a link:

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.d...3/1055/ SPORTS07

Gravatar Has this been posted here:

http://therealests.blogspot.com/...erbe- found.html

Brian Ellerbe's whereabouts, found at last!

Gravatar yea, i'm not sure what to think about Nichol:

1) schembolgger said he was going to state, but who knows how reliable he is. that one QB transferred, but that may have been injuries + being 4th string after spring practices, not an indication of Nichol going to EL.

2) Nichol fits the RR offense and some local people on the Huge show said he was a lock to M.

3) RR pulling Forciers offer could be an indication that there is a serious possibility he comes to A2, or maybe that the staff is just confident & confortable w/ beaver + Newsome.

in sum: who knows?????

baseball: i'm not worried about defense too much. at this level, there will be an error or 2 per team per game... hopefully not like the Christian wiff @ SS thurs night tho. our defensive weaknesses are at C, RF, and 1B w/ Dufek. Oaks has been an adventure in RF most of the year, and LaMarre has wheels but hasn't played too much RF until the injury 3-4 weeks ago (also, he's hitting close to .500 over the last 2 weeks or so). in tourney play (fewer double headers) i'd guess Maloney keeps Dufek & Oaks on the bench as PHers so Reck is at 1B & [forget his name, the regular catcher] is catching most of the time. notice that reck started at C when fetter threw on friday, tho.... i don't think thats coincidence: fetter changes arm angle from pitch to pitch so his pitches have much different movement pitch to pitch. that's tough on a catcher who isn't used to catching fetter.

so,

1) if P == fetter, reck == C, dufek == 1B, Oaks == PH option.

2) if P == !fetter, reck == 1B, dufek + Oaks == PH option.

the only thing is, usually you'd like to upgrade the D late in the game (ie, late inning D replacement) and these don't really do that, unless in (1), they swap Oaks for the normal catcher, mover reck to 1st and take dufek out. late in the game, the normal catcher won't have to catch fetter more than 1-2 inns anyway. that's a net upgrade defensively. in (2) Maloney would probably PH Dufek & put him at 1st & move reck to C.

they are really deep in the OF and 1B (the latter isn't really saying much). if putnam stays for 1 more year (fat chance), they might not be hurt too much by losing reck. losing both creates too big of a hole in the lineup in 09.

Gravatar Don't listen to Schemboggler. Kind of an idiot.

Anyone see the 2008 Michigan season t-shirt? It doesn't look bad, but it's kind of lame.

http://www.mden.com/shopping/ pro...roduct_id=19698

Gravatar There were many posts here yesterday dogging LB recruit Jordan Barnes' athleticism, but he has a huge SPARQ rating of 125.88. By comparison super-athletic Sam Mcguffie's ran a 4.32 amongst other impressive #'s and earned a 104.85 SPARQ. Can anybody find how Jordan Barnes earned such high mark?

Gravatar sparq has a different rating for football, baseball, gen athleticism, ect.... so maybe that's it? wouldn't 125 be the highest ever recorded?

que the domer who says he scored hight b/c prof hagen graded it.

Gravatar I think those shirts are a lot nicer than ND's, and at least they are maize. As long as everyone wears maize, I really don't care what's on them, and less wording is better.

That said, UM needs to include a shirt with every ticket package regardless of who bought it. Just add $8 to the cost and force Adidas to subsidize it if $8 doesn't cover the cost. I'm sick of seeing white outs at PSU, ND all covered in that shitty gold/green mess, etc. As a past Greek community member, I know that the big offenders are the sorostitutes showing up in pink mid 2nd quarter, but I also believe in a first come first serve policy for seats in the student section. If they want to break it up by credits, section 27 could be for sophs, 26 for juniors, 25 for seniors. Then, after the 1st quarter let it be sit whereever you want. This would definitely get the best fans in the best spots.

Gravatar As far as I can tell (and this comes straight from Scout), there is NO CHANCE of Nichol ending up at Michigan.
From the common sense perspective that I so often post entirely on the opposite side of, why would Nochol go to Michigan? There's that "competition" thingy which seems to ruffle his panties. Newsome is the bedrock recruit for RR, he's got him some Beaver also, and two other freshmen in Threet and Feagin.
Nichol isn't going anywhere that won't offer him nothing short of a sure thing. I say he ends up at Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, or someplace like Cincinnati.

Gravatar Ha, this is great. This Florida fan hates Illinois fans and writes extensively about how Ron Zook sucks, but Illinois deserves him. Illinois fans really are douchebags.

http://fireronzook.blogspot.com/.../label/ Michigan

Gravatar On the Sparq rating, McGuffie had the highest score ever (I'm pretty sure of that, but I wouldn't bet my welfare check on it). So, I would guess that it varies by position of athleticism. But I am no expert on the process.

Gravatar i believe McGuffie got the 2nd highest ever SPARQ rating.. not too bad. those shirts are lame though. we need to spice up M gear.

Gravatar Football 1.0:

mcguffie had ~ 104, 5th all time.
highest ever is 114.

===
===

Football 2.0:

highest ever is 132.

http://www.sparqtraining.com/ rat...ings_events.php

what this all means, i have no freakin idea.

Gravatar I heard McNeal loves BILG and that's why he committed to UM - to make Magnus look bad again I mean.

Gravatar From what I understand SPARQ gives a score based on the basic combine skills of 40, vertical jump, shuttle, etc... on Jordan Barnes' rivals profile page it displays his huge score of 125.88, which piqued my interest. That number is ridiculously high, so at least at combine events he is super-athletic, whatever those numbers may be.

Gravatar sparq clearly takes penis size in to consideration

Gravatar i believe McGuffie got the 2nd highest ever SPARQ rating.. not too bad. those shirts are lame though. we need to spice up M gear.

The prevailing opinion seems to be that the 2008 season is gonna suck, so why waste a cool T-shirt design on it?

Gravatar @ DanK

I think Dufek is a much higher upgrade though when it comes to offense. Putting Recknagel behind the plate uses Dufek as an outstanding offense replacement to Berset.

Dufek's fielding percentage is actually higher than anyone other than Cislo, Berset, VanBuskirk, and our pitchers this season. He's sitting at a .985 fielding percentage, 5 points better than Recknagel. Yeah, I know sample size isn't quite the same, but percentage is percentage. I can't say I've seen enough games live to talk about RF. I think our bigger issues are at 3B with Abraham and SS with Christian. I can think at least 3 instances where Christian goes to backhand a ball and never touches it. I want to say between the two of them they have 30 errors or just under half our total errors.

By the by, I posted some previews on Maizenbrew's fanposts for Game 1 and 2 of the tournament. I have a feeling we're playing Indiana. They're coming in hot and I'm expecting Bashore to be moved into the number one slot. Wanamaker is good, but he's been a bit shaky the last 2 weeks. If he pitches like he did in Minnesota he could end up getting rocked.

Gravatar @ anonymous

How does McNeal's commitment make me look bad? Because I said Brian was wrong when he reported that McNeal committed a couple weeks ago?

Aw, shucks. You got me. It sure does make me look bad when someone else screws up... I'm such a stupid asshole.

(Feel free to quote that, since I know you will anyway.)

Gravatar Also, it's kind of strange that one or more people are that intrigued by me that they feel they must handlejack me and "insult" me at random times. And you act like I'm the one with a problem.

Gravatar Why did I just spend 20 minutes of my life watching the 1947 Sugar Bowl? Oh, that's right, b/c I don't have a life.

Gravatar Wow.

Better things to do when you have no life:

http://www.todaysbigthing.com/2008/04/21

Gravatar If Trippi (myself) would just score one fucking touchdown and not let this Puppa fella show him up, I could just go to fucking sleep. And there's so many fake punt formations. There's also a lot of 3rd down quick kicks which was really shocking to me because I thought the Lions invented the quick kick and were also the only team to use it.

Gravatar College baseball sucks.

Can't wait for football season. GO BLUE!!

Gravatar Good people of MGoBlog, rest easy. The #1 jersey tradition has been secured:

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.../805190366/ 1004

Braylon sounds like a jackass in that article.

Gravatar Can we start a tradition of offering it to a linebacker then going through this fiasco again?

And you're right, he does sound like a huge ass.

Gravatar Interesting poll on mgoblue right now. Favorite baseball jerseys. Maize holds a lead over blue at the moment. The pinstripe are in 3rd though which boggles my mind. I love the plain white jerseys. The pinstripe look like crap.

Obviously gray is last.

Gravatar plain white rules. yellow looks dumb, with the block M, imo. partly due to the quality of the jersey, part the design.

Gravatar @ Formerly:

"Obviously"? What the hell is that supposed to mean?!! I swear it's like I don't even know you anymore......

Gravatar Thank Zuess's underoos! The ghost of Tyrone Butterfield may now rest peacefully!

Gravatar And I don't see how Braylon sounded like a jackass, unless you're part of the "I don't remember anything past 1990 and tradition doesn't matter because I'm so kewl" crowd.

Gravatar The No. 1 is one of our oldest, most storied traditions here -- don't change it."

no. just no. it has been a coincidence. an unofficial set of happenstances. do i mind at all that he wants to make it official? no. but, WRs take the #1 b/c it's the #1, it looks good on tall thin guys, or they have an ego. not b/c of AC or greg mcmurtry, whom no one has heard of outside of the B10 (if not M fans). DT wanted the #1 b/c he thought he was gods gift to football and his ego couldn't take anything less. look, i'm all for making it an official tradition (that retroactively started in 2004) and giving it to a WR exclusively as a recruiting tool every 3-4 years. but i'm not a fan of revisionist history.

Gravatar "You could come in here and completely revamp everything, change the coaching staff, you could change the uniforms..."

[Cue that annoying bit from SNL] Really? The #1 jersey is more important than the fucking uniform? Really?

Gravatar Let's not start this BS again. Really.

Gravatar So...predicitons: Wings or Stars? Hornets or Spurs? Pistons or Celtics? Triple Crown or no?

Gravatar wings hornets pistons no

Gravatar formerly,

Oaks has been an adventure in RF. i've seen maybe 6 games in person + on TV. not a lot of speed and doesn't get under the ball too well.

opportunities and range are bigger issues on the left side of the infield, IMO. christian has the size, range & arm to have a shot at MLB. i think he makes plays that most other SSs in the B10 can't. of course, the routine play may be different.

AA, i'm not sure about his defense to be honest, but at the very least he's an grade A athlete who has to have pretty good range for a college 3Bman. i do know that he's money on fielding a bunt bare handed. saw that myself, and it was impressive. and he is a 3rd year starter.

at 1B, i can't see a guy who has the ability to catch at this level (reck) being a liability there, relative to almost anyone who plays 1st at this level. but you've looked at the stats and i haven't.

also, your tourney preview is great, but shuck is a player to watch for osu, whether he throws or not. based on what i saw of him, i'm shocked he's not hitting at least .420 in B10 play.

Gravatar @Gray,

As a southerner, you will hold a place in my heart and my militia. But road jersey's can't be my favorite... obviously.

Gravatar I don't think Shuck would be going on 3 days rest. Hale isn't bad as their normal #1 starter. He's also fully rested. I'm more a fan of Wolosiansky. I'm interested to see if Todd hits Shuck when he pitches in the tournament. He's DH'd for him a few times down the stretch. Miller is the bigger force on the buckeyes. I don't have my stats with me at work, but he's hitting like 20 points better IIRC.

As a past catcher, the transition to 1B isn't that tough, but it is a bit different. I'm not worried about 1B really at all. Christian is one of the top in conference. Wikoff at Illinois is just as athletic and hits a bit better. Trust me, I think their good, but the last few weeks have been sketchy.

Gravatar if Todd sits Shuck*

Gravatar this tourney is do or die for everyone in the B10, save M. so, i'd expect shuck to play at every opportunity.

Gravatar Thank god Braylon. Way to go to lay the smack down and straighten this shit out. Wow! now I can go about my normal day knowing that Braylon is there to protect me.

Gravatar I had a tradition of taking a shit in the morning, then I started taking it after my 8:00 am class but after listening to Braylon, he's right, I shouldn't break tradition.

Gravatar Keegan

LMAO!!

Gravatar lolololl:

Gravatar BSD on
James Laurinaitus:

Yeah, he has a great nose for the ball alright. That's because teams run right at him all the time. And he usually makes the tackle about five or seven yards down field from the line of scrimmage. And of course it helps to have a generous home field score keeper who gives you credit for a solo tackle any time you jump on a pile.

OK, i agree on the 1st parts, but home field scorers giving away solo tackles? why PSU fans, why you so cwazay?

Gravatar yes to the triple crown

Gravatar "...but i'm not a fan of revisionist history.

Da, but in Soviet Russia, history revises YOU!

Gravatar BSD is an enigma to me. Sometimes it's great, well thought out writing. Other times it sounds like vomit being spewed out of a coked up Harry Connick Jr. The problem is that PSU fans drink it up like it's gospel. And the fact that they never address their own faults:

Shitty coaching
Criminal players
Shitty recruiting

They throw this at everyone else, not themselves. DON'T DRINK THE KOOL-AID!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gravatar how girl get pragnet ?

Gravatar Braylon pointed his M4 at RichRod and said give me your 1ssoneone!!!!eleventybillion111one!

Gravatar i hate the animal. what a queen. there's nothign worse than a grown ass man dressing up like a giant honch queef. pro wrestling is the scourage of our existence; it is not something that should be celebrated. pro wrestlers should be given a gypsy-like status.

that being said, i cant defend BSD. i havent really seen any content over there that i found interesting or enjoyable.

Gravatar HOW IS BABBY FORMED?

how is babby formed?

Gravatar Hey, I've been looking at our 2008 Defense and thinking about RR saying the strongest part of his entire TEAM this Spring was his...LINEBACKERS!! Uh, really?? WTF?!
Man, if that's true I'll predict right here and now that the 2008 Michigan Defense will be better than the 2006 Defense. (HOWEVA: I'm not buying Rich's high praise about the LBs....yet.)
Okay, so let's look at the position-by-position comparison:
I think Graham will be on par with Woodley. (Hey, I just do.)
2008 Taylor is better than 2006 Taylor.
2008 WIll Johnson is better than 2006 WJ.
Jamison is be better than Biggs. A LOT better!
And with Slocum off the bench? Sweet Mother Mary Fuck Lion.
There's no reason why this D-Line shouldn't be the best D-Line in the program's HISTORY.
Trent 2008 is better than Trennt 2006.
Call me crazy, but I think Warren 2008 will be as good as Hall 2006.
Will 2008 Brown be as good as 2006 Mundy? Uhhhh...could he be any WORSE?!
Harrison at 2008 Nickel is better than Harrison at 2006 Nickel.
Okay, so Stewart at SS scares the shit out of me. Let's move on...
And then we have the Linebackers. In 2006 it was Harris, Burgess, and Crable/Graham.
In 2008 it will be Ezeh, Thompson, and Mouton/Panter. (probably)
Doubts? Sure, me too BUT before the 2006 season did any of us know how great Harris was going to be that Fall? Didn't we all think Burgess was going to continue to SUCK BALLS?
Both really took huge steps forward and HArris became a dominant player. Maybe Johnny Thompson takes that same step?
Yes, count me in the group of doubting Thomases, but hey, I'm just reacting to RR telling the world that his LBs were his BEST players. (!!) Either that was a little positive reinforcement for the youngsters or this 2008 Defense is going to be badass!

Gravatar someone turned it into a song, which is hilarious too. has some operatic, ddimmu borgir vocals which is always fun.

http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=n...feature=related

Gravatar caup - agreed. I think that our D is going to surprise teams and keep us in a lot of games. Having 2 lock-down corners is huge. It takes a lot of pressure off the safeties. I'm still worried about the LBs, but I think that they will come along. No concerns about the D-line. They will be monsters.

Gravatar caup,

I'm kind of on board with that but not yet. Graham could be as good as Woodley, but not yet. He reminds me of Woodley his Jr. year (which isn't bad) and I think if he stay his Sr. year he'll be as good or better. If none of the DT take huge steps, there's no way they can have the impact that Branch had. He was an unstoppable double teamed force. I think the safeties are a push. CB's are up in the air, but Warren will be better than hall, I don't know if he is yet, we'll have to wait. The LB's, who knows? Harris led the team in tackles his Jr. year, so there was speculation that he was a stud. Burgess was less suck, but not great. Crable....AAAAHHHHHH don't fucking hit him, he already threw the ball. So we'll see on the LB's, I think they'll be more athletic...hopefully better too.

Gravatar The depth at D-Line will be huge and could be what makes this D-Line better than 2006.

Gravatar caup, you conveniently forgot about AMFB.

Gravatar so, officially, trent has gone from goat to lock down corner?

Gravatar BGH,

Yes, that's how the off-season works.

Gravatar n00b

Gravatar A mother fucking B? Who is that?

Gravatar i think i read that richrod said the linebackers were going to be the best position, at which point said fan said "that's crazy" and rod replied "you haven't taken into account the freshman lbs that are coming in"

If that's the case and he's counting on freshman to be a major component of his 'best position group', there's no way the LBs are as good as 2006 and intuitively, the defense as a whole.

Gravatar alan mother fuckin branch?

Gravatar you guys planning on coming around and celebrating the work of johnny sears any time soon? what about doug dutch?

i'm just joking. trent was so bad two years ago, but i think a lot of us overlooked the fact that it was difficult position switch for him. he came around last year, i too expect big things from him this year. even though he's not quite there yet, congrats to morgan for working his ass off to become an excellent contributor who will get the chance to play on sundays.

plus his mom is smoking hot.

Gravatar Ohhh!!!! How stupid of me. God, I'm going to go flog myself so AB doesn't come and eat me for my failure.

Gravatar "plus his mom is smoking hot."

amen

Gravatar BGH,

I was planning on writing "and his mom is hot" while reading your post. Then read the whole thing. Good work sir.

Gravatar Re: Trent - yes. That's what happens when you spend your freshman and sophomore years getting burned by USC & OSU's receivers.

Gravatar keegan: they say that great minds think alike. in your case, however, i think it was just happenchance that you lucked out and had the same thought as an admittedly self-prescribed great mind.

lololol. i'm just kidding.

Gravatar I like the theory of the maize jersey, but the too-sheer material execution make me vote against it.

I actually like the gray jerseys, but I'm a southerner too, so I'm going to have to question myself about this.

Gravatar medals: yes, but soemtimes fans just assume the transition from wr to db is an easy one. trent repeatedly got put on an island as a green db, often against top flight talent. i don't care how much speed you have, thats tough.

Gravatar I think TT and Slocum will be no less than the equivalent of 1 Branch. I think the net contribution of Jamison/Graham will be better than Biggs/Woodley.
If we recall, the safeties were the chink in the 2006 armor. So, maybe that will be the chink again, but I doubt it'll be any bigger of a weakness.
It will all come down to the LBs, and I simply cannot believe the 2008 LBs will be as good as the 2006 LBs.
But even if they're close...WHOA!

Gravatar So I had a reasonably comedic gay moment this weekend.

I was driving down Packard with my brother and some friends when my brother pointed out a golden retriever puppy walking down the sidewalk. We all leaned over and went "aww what a cute puppy" and then there was this awkward silence. My friend in the backseat says, "so did anyone get any pussy this weekend." To a man we had failed at that task as well so no one said anything. My brother leans out the window and yells, "this car is full of fags" and we drove in silence for the next 5 minutes.

Gravatar BSD on
James Laurinaitus:

Yeah, he has a great nose for the ball alright. That's because teams run right at him all the time. And he usually makes the tackle about five or seven yards down field from the line of scrimmage.

OK, i agree on the 1st parts

You guys gotta be shitin' me -how many yrds did Hart get on him?

@ Ninja-
agree w/ you on B Edwards- he's gotta right to bitch but could have handled it w/out the press --that's where he f'd up

Gravatar we won't have a single LB who will come close to being as good as DHarris in 06. no freaking way. dude walked into the nfl and make 150 tackles in year 1.

AMFB was a beast. a man among boys. TT is good, but does not have that ceiling. the 06 D was all about the front 7. the 08 front 7 doesn't even come close.

Gravatar troll

Laurinitis does seem to make many of his tackles away from the line of scrimmage. Especially against LSU where one of the commentators made the point that at one point he had "the quietest 13 tackles I've ever seen." This isn't to say that he is a bad linebacker. He is a pretty good one who will get massive tallies of tackles. But he isn't an AJ Hawk type who could make those tackles deep in the backfield or at the LOS.

Gravatar since its the 21st century, we all recognize that its marginally inappropriate to use slurs to represent the homosexual population.

as such, i move that we replace the words/phrases "fag," "gay," "homo," "bare backer," "jake gyllenahll," etc with "james laurinaitus."

its a pc-inspired compromise that should make everyone happy.

Gravatar You only used Jake Gyllenhall because Heath Ledger is dead. Way to make that also PC switch. Did you hear that Heath Ledger wasted money on a 2008 calender?

Sidenote: What's black, white and sad?

Heath Ledger's cat.

Gravatar hahaha we are both members of the offical face book group "heath ledger wasted his money on a 2008 calandar."

the olsen twins are a harbinger of bad things to come. lance armstrong should take note, he's one industrial accident away from losing his remianing ball.

Gravatar @ Other Chris,

I'm just not a fan of the pinstripe. It ranks well behind the gray. If not for the novelty, I'd say the Maize probably would be behind gray too. To me its White, Blue, then Gray. It's your home, sundays, and road jerseys. Maize could be the alternate home, but I like the darker alternate home jerseys. I guess you could call me a false traditionalist.

Gravatar @MR-
agreed -no AJ (yet) but overall speed of '07 def can make it look like he's late to plays (or just got assists) & also few teams ran "right at" him --but will agree he did not have the "closing speed" of AJ

Gravatar 1)white
2)blue
3)grey
4)pinstripe
5)yellow, as currently depicted. this could move up to #1, potentially.

Gravatar AJ Hawk is a spectactular douche. 1. Played for OSU 2. Married Brady Quinn's sister 3. Plays for Green Bay 4. Has the last name of a totally sweet raptor which belies his overall merits as a person.

He's the perfect storm of things I don't like.

Gravatar bgh

perfectly understandable----
(esp the B Quinn's sis part)

Not sure how douche fits into that..but t'each his own

Gravatar i love the fact that dublin ohio is keeping professional leagues stocked with marginal, bench-riding talent with the last name of quinn:

chris quinn of the miami heat and, of course, our boy brady with browns.

Gravatar ...and I'm sure you'll have similar charactorizations for OSU's def this fall...incl 'Lil Animal

Gravatar Brian should do a UFR on Stanford's defense against Cal in the 2007 season.

Gravatar That was my suggestion. Do it! Defensive UFR on Cal-Stanford!

Gravatar Is our defensive personnel comparable to stanford? (serious question)

Gravatar troll, aren't you embarrassed when you flip on an osu game and you see like 65 drunk bros and bro hoes decked out in "the animal" themed costumes? like, i get it, youre fans, but is the viking drag really neccesary? plus, they're setting themselves up to look really stupid when they get pulled over for a dui on the way home.

Gravatar ...He's the perfect storm of things I don't like.
big gay heart | 05.19.08 - 11:39 am ..

Now watch-- if things improve in AA ---the press will blame RR for climate change...

Gravatar Is our defensive personnel comparable to stanford?

no, but a mini UFR detailing what schafer likes to do on 3rd downs, 1st downs, etc. might be revealing.

Gravatar Troll, if that happens, I can see a striking montage of RR drowning in the angry sea. Just before he slips beneath the frothy white of god's wrath, he whispers "spread offense, I will always loooooove you."

Gravatar Wasted money on an '08 calendar? That is wonderfully, horribly wrong. And I love it.

The D is the reason I'm maintaining we go 8-4 or 9-3. The D line depth plus Shafer's attacking style plus the conditioning will make the front 7 absolute monsters.

Gravatar ..most fans in Col aren't students (just as in AA) & w/ no professional sports in Columbus -it's the only "outlet" to seek one's "inner self" see?... they're just chicken shits in AA,.. afraid to expose one's true desires ...can't act out their fantasies.... (much too inhibited and the chronic's not as good...)

Gravatar yes, i have often suppressed my desire to dress like a tranvestite viking dominatrix.

re: barwis making the front 7 monsters. Gittleson did the same thing, only they were cookie monsters. lolol.

Gravatar either that, or they have nothing better to do in cbus.

Gravatar My fear is that early on in the season we're going to have a bunch of players flying out of position, over-persuing plays, and getting torched.
My HOPE is that our guys will start to learn that they are quick enough to play smart positionally and STILL close down the holes in time to stuff plays.
You always hear "READ and REACT." The REACT part I'm not worried about. It's the READ part that's harder to teach. The greatness of Harris is his ability to "speed READ" then REACT with the wood.
Will Ezeh or Thompson be able to READ plays fast enough this year? None of the LBs were able to do that well enough last year.

Gravatar BGH
judging by you "name" you haven't suppressed much

Gravatar When I said comparable, I meant if he's utilizing his personnel on third down or otherwise. If I'm not mistaken Standford had a really good DE and 2 really good (in terms of Stanford) LBs. I don't remember them having strengths at CB and DT. I could be horribly mistaken though.

If I am correct, I would imagine he would have utilized his 3rd down defense differently. I'm not saying we should UFR something from Schaffer, I'm just looking for something that matches strengths.

Gravatar I wouldn't be surprised if Thompson either didn't start the opener or wasn't starting by the middle of the season. Especially if RR is so enthusiastic about the freshmen.

Gravatar While the safeties were responsible for some big plays in '06, the achilles heal may have been the lack of quality depth at DB in general. The defense didn't get exposed until OSU went 4-5 wide and USC adopted an exclusive aerial assault. (Note: those were also the two best teams we played, but they really wanted to challenge our 3 and 4 corners.)

Gravatar I really think that Utah game will show a lot about how well coached this team is. That is going to be an offense that will capitalize on mistakes (overpusuing, missed tackles, bad angles) and will create matchups were they see a mismatch. That offense will be a good indicator of what UM has on D. I don't doubt that UM can line up with Wisc and go head to head, but against a team with speed that can create matchups kind of like the first game last seas...oh god the flashbacks are coming OH MY GOD MAKE IT STOP ARMANTI EDWARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!IT WON'T STOP....CRABLE NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!NO MIKE GO BACK IN THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!JOHNNY SEARS WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING???????????AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HOW IS THAT SHORT PUDGY WHITE KID RUNNING WITH THE BALL???HOW DID HE BLOCK THAT?????DO WE GET A DO-OVER???

Gravatar @Caup:

Yeah I see us losing a few early and then getting our shit together and going on a streak once everyone can quit thinking and just play. Probable loss to OSU and a tremendous performance in whatever bowl game we get to.

Gravatar that was grossly unnecessary.

Gravatar I apologize for that. I am recovering now. Deep breaths and whiskey help calm me down. Here's a question:

Would you rather see a 9-3 season (no B10 Title but similar bowl game to last year) with a loss to OSU; or a 5-7 season with a win over OSU that knocks them out of the MNC?

I think I would take a 9-3 because of the future implication it would have on momentum and recruiting. Plus if OSU went to a MNC again, I know they would get rocked and that is almost as good as them going 6-6...almost.

Gravatar Where's Ninja?

Gravatar I'm not totally buying in to our defense just yet. Remember, this is the same defense (the front 4 in particular) that got gashed 3 weeks in a row by Mich St., Wisconsin and Ohio St. Wisconsin was playing their 3rd string running back as well and was decimated by injuries. Until I actually see it, its just hype without much substance.

Gravatar He transfered to tOSU.

Gravatar I'd take either result. I'd like us to go to a bowl, but beating OSU at this point may or may not trump that, especially if its their only loss of the season on the last week.

Gravatar Of course it's all speculation Jay, that's the only reason I don't spend February through July in a medically induced coma. And I'm calling it right now: 1) 'Spoon will play situationally and 2) he'll announce his presence with a hit on Jimmy Clausen for Heisman reminscent of Crable vs Quinn.

Gravatar situationally right away*

Gravatar Chris Watt and Mike Schofield COMMITS!!!

Gravatar I wouldn't know if they did. For the record, I am usually the last to know about a recruit committing. Just so everyone knows when I've been jacked.

Gravatar both would be solid offensive line guys. i think rivals has both in their prelimenary top 100.

i hope we get one of them.

Gravatar Spoon's hit will send all of the hair remaining on Jimmah's head to fly out through the holes on his helmet. It will be reminiscent of a tarantula's shooting hair defense, only it will be accompanied with a stream of tears.

God I hate ND, every year that Front Butt is their coach they creep closer and closer to OSU.

Gravatar When does Rivals update their rankings again? I'm curious to see when Turner and Touissaint will get a ranking.

Gravatar yeah, but since then schofield dropped to about 250, which isn't terrible for a lineman. It really depends what Roddy can get out of them.

Gravatar Turner has a ranking, he's in the top 50. Jones isn't ranked yet.

Gravatar Fickin' jacker.

And my list:

Wings in 7
Spurs (damn it.)
Pistons
Triple Crown

Gravatar Thanks Musket.

Gravatar Keegan,

you meant Bell?

Gravatar 9-3.

Gravatar Him too. God I'm a failure today.

Gravatar it's funny how fast Scout re-ranked Bryce mcneal ever since he committed.

Gravatar I think the only unranked players right now ate Toussaint, Jones, and Bell. Jones, especially, won't be ranked for sometime, as he virtually hasn't played in high school yet.

Gravatar If we could upgrade to 6-6 with a win over OSU I'd say yes for sure. 5-7? That's just tough, but at this point I think I'd pretty much sell my grandmother for a win over the Bucks. All of their fans are just so incredibly obnoxious, and you know they'll be shitting themselves if Rod comes in and beats them right away. I could definitely live with that for a year.

Gravatar I still love you Keeg.

Gravatar Turner, McNeal and Newsome are all close to being 5*. Which, if any, of them do you think will get a 5th? I hate star systems but there isn't much else going on.

Gravatar Henne,

Somebody needs to.

Gravatar I would say Turner.

Newsome didn't seem to do too well at the Elite 11 camp, so I don't see him getting bumped up.

McNeal has to put up some big numbers to jump 50 spots to get that 5 star ranking.

And I've read how Turner has been dominant at Ohio camps; people say he's the best DB in ohio hands down.

Gravatar There is still an entire football season for these guys to play. Where they rank/are evaluated at now isn't neccesarily what they'll be in December.

Gravatar @caup

Gsims seems to say that Scot Shafer seems like he knows how to teach the players fundamental defensive play, particularly in the secondary. I just hope that the LBs will learn how to read the offense better.

Gravatar Is Turner more likely to play at S or CB?

Gravatar That's what I've heard about Shafer. He schemes well, but he really teaches guys how to play D. That in turn, puts them in positions to make plays.

Gravatar The fact that Scout and Rivals re-rank players - dramatically, at times - when they commit to a certain schools detracts from the credibility of the correlation between class recruitment rankings and on the field success. As we've noted, higher ranked classes usually tend to have tangiblility as it relates to actual performance. But if you consider the fact that Scout and Rivals will give a guy like Mcneal a higher ranking based upon his choosen school creates a situation where Rivals and Scout are aware of a program's reputation and undertsand that those programs will only give schollies to good players. As such, these recruiting sites are doing very little due dilligence when evaluating players. The correlation between end of season recruitment rankings and winning percentage is really just common sense, as top programs will, obviously, recruit top-talent. So, while a connection does exist, it has little or nothing to do with Scout or Rival's ability to evaluate high school talent.

Gravatar Henne - is there a cap on the # of 5-star players that are out there? I didn't think it worked like "the top x number get 5-stars, the next x number get 4, etc...".

Gravatar If Turner puts up good numbers this season, I think he could end up very highly ranked since he has plus size for a corner, sort of like Patrick Johnson last year.

Gravatar Turner is big though - he gets listed as a Safety.

Gravatar BGH,

In defense of Rivals and Scout (can't believe I said that) They do bump guys up based on their commitment because there are so many kids for them to evaluate that they can't get to all of them equally. Therefore, they rely on the teams to help them gauge a recruits actual capabilities. There's just too many HS kids to evaluate equally when you take in all the variables like competition and systems that the kids are in. That's why the they use the teams as a barometer for kids.

Gravatar chitown, did you go on vacation or soemthing? havent seen you in like a week.

Gravatar I believe that Scout just calls the top X players 5*. I believe Rivals has some individual player scoring system that cuts off 5* stars regardless of the actual number of players categorized as such.

I thought I read that Turner was going to be tried at corner first. Depends on his hips apparently. That's the first and last time I'll attempt to sound like I know what I'm talking about when it comes to evaluating DBs.

Gravatar I've heard Turner labeled as a "pure safety" and with Warren and Cissoko as pure cb's I'd rather him stay at S, unless the Gods will claim him early, in which case I demand a switch to cb or we sacrifice Sears in order to appease them.

Gravatar Keegan - I don't think BGH is arguing that. His main point is that if Rivals/Scout can't evaluate all these players, and end up abdicating much of the diligence to the schools, and then re-rank prospects accordingly, can they really market themselves as "experts"?

Gravatar BGH - I went on "completely fucking slammed at work". Shit has calmed down now.

Gravatar Keegan: I'm right with you on that. But when talking about Scout/Rivals credibility as it relates to predicting success, aren't they essentially saying, "hey, USC is usually good and they usually have the ability to pick up any player they want, so the kids that they do offer scholorships too are probably pretty good?"

Gravatar chitown,

Yeah, I read it wrong. My apologies BGH I reread it and realized I just re-wrote your post.

Gravatar Sears was already sacrificed to the Bowl God.

Gravatar BGH - I went on "completely fucking slammed at work". Shit has calmed down now.
chitownblue 00 | 05.19.08 - 12:58 pm | #

ah, right on.

i'm about to be there, as 2 people from my group of 4 technical writers just quit. and the marketing manager. ooooouch.

Gravatar Another thing with those sites and their rankings: do either/both sponsor events like all-star games and combines?

If so, there's always a question of possible conflicts of interest. Such as, you should come to our event because then we'll rank you higher on our list.

Gravatar We could sacrifice the chain store of Sears. I'd be okay with that.

Gravatar FYI, new post.

Gravatar kaiser - I think they both sponsor scouting events.

Gravatar ESPN supposedly did that last year with its all-star game.

Moreover, a lot of people sya that ESPN does that with ND recruits as well.
