Hello? Anyone here?

Is this a basketball post?

Gravatar Damn, gsims and I had a good football talk going and know a f-ing hoops post. Gsims, if you're still around, check out my last two posts on the Yikes thread and we can continue over here.

Gravatar I've been looking forward to an opportunity to talk hoops, but now I think I just kind of want to kill myself.

Gravatar Word, brother. We are going to be almost unwatchable for at least another calendar year. I'm in TN and suffered through 40 minutes. I don't know why I put myself through it. However, if I didn't I would feel like I was on the bandwagon once they turn this around.

Gravatar Thifth!!! ~Lou Tholthz

Gravatar When is Beilein going to recruit the next moustache-encrusted 3 point-shooting Pittsnogle to lead us back to the tournament (I can't even conceptualize a sweet 16 run)?

Gravatar that was depressing.

Gravatar Can we also discuss how the band is essentially irrelevant? Can't hear 'em, don't know what the heck they're playing...

Gravatar Gsims,

Our run plays were

formation
then

42 sweep/toss/counter/zone (yes we ran zone blocking and we were good at it)

We had an unbelievable O-line coach.

The formation thing is weird to me. We played against option teams that would do a ton of formations and our coaches just gave us a cue, if it was me at SS then I always lined up just outside the TE. Nothing else mattered for me, and we shut option teams down too.

Gravatar I've said this before, but here I go again . . .

My biggest disappointment with basketball and Beilein is that I was under the impression that he could do more with less. That his coaching and his system could make 2* teams compete with 4* teams. And all that jazz. I know there's not a lot of talent there, and I never expected them to make even the NIT this year, but I never dreamed they'd be as bad as they are. UM's not even really putting up a fight most games.

I'm not ready to bail. And I do think Beilein will get this team in the tournament and compete for a B10 title or two before all is said and done. But the process is going to be much longer and much more painful that anticipated.

And our incoming recruiting class? Ugh.

Gravatar I left the Syracuse game early.

(Hangs head in shame)

Gravatar We ran a Wing-T in HS but for the life of me I can't remember the verbiage of that...and it was only 5 years ago. I smoked too much pot in college.

Gravatar Rebuilding sucks. Especially from the foundation up. Have patience, young Jedi.

(Crisler is really 40 yrs old??? When did that happen??)

Gravatar keegan...

your dc was obvioulsy a keep it simple stupid kind of guy, and i respect that...

i would bet that you also had some pretty good football players on your team.... otherwise you would have had to make a few other adjustments problaby....

jimmies and joes, not x's and o's

Gravatar As a stay to end guy myself, I'd say the hardest football game to gut through was Purdue in '95

Date: November 1
Temperature: -1 and sleeting
Score: 5-0

On the upside at least there was a freshman Woodson getting a sack in the endzone for a safety.

Gravatar Games I wish I would have left early:

Colorado and Kordel Stewart's blind heave to Westbrook.

Oregon and being forced to take pictures of my Oregon alum friends in front of the scoreboard.

Gravatar If anyone is wondering why they list JT Floyd's 40 time at 4.7, look at this website. It says here that he ran a 4.43 and a 4.47.

http://www.shrine-bowl.com/2007_...ombine% 203A.htm

Gravatar Trueblue,

The 1-3-1 is the hardest defense to teach, and takes the longest to become effective at. It's easy to be marginally good at, but the style he wants is really hard and requires kids to forget almost everything they've learned up until then. The other problem is that if you're not good at the 1-3-1 it is the defense that will get beat the most and look horrible doing it.

Gravatar Yes, the basketball team sucks this year. And probably won't be a whole lot better next year.

Next post.

Gravatar True blue, those aren't friends those are assholes
I would have drop kicked the camera and walked away

Gravatar if you ran wing-t you probably numberd your wholes across the line left to right.... as opposed to even right odd left like normal

if you ran wing t

you probbaly used terms like belly... belly trap, belly option etc...

buck sweep, and midline...

Gravatar gsims,

my junior year we had pretty good talent my senior year we were not very deep and a lot of our secondary was slower. We ran a cover 2 so our cb's didn't have to go 1 on 1. Our D coaches were really good and they basically put us in positions to make plays. In the semi's I was told to just stand in a spot and not chase the ball (it was an option team) I can't count the number of times the ball carrier just ran right to me on a counter or cross-buck play. i had 13 tackles at SS and I didn't really move for half of them.

Yeah, we would make some adjustments and we weren't a great D my senior year but 7 of us started on both sides and we were maybe 13 guys that could play.

Gravatar keegan,

we run wvu's 1-3-1 defense.. ihave been running it for about 6 years now...

and you are right, you have to be dedicated to it, to be good at it...

there is a highschool coach out of wisconsin, cant remember his name, is the best at teaching the 1-3-1 i have ever seen....

Gravatar 1) this post is why i read the blog.

2) this season has shown 2 things: a) TA was a terrible recruiter. he couldn't recruit depth, aggressiveness, or passion. and wasn't great at recruiting talent either. b) these guys on the team REALLY don't fit this system. i'm beginning to wonder if DSims has ever attempted a jumper in a game or practice. gibson shoots better than he does.

3) i am a little concerned about how much this offense depends on settling for outside shots. no body scores pts in the paint. at this rate, i don't see any talented guys more than 6-7 committing to michigan. why would they? it's like a WR committing to Navy.

harris, however, is good. best player we've had since horton. yes, he's a TO factory, but once LLP gets in the rotation (10 mos from now, ugh), we could put shepard at the 2 and manny at the 3. he's only played 20 games at this level.

Gravatar Tenuta to Notre Dame...

Gravatar Wing-T I thought was the most annoying offense to play in high school, then high schools in Michigan did the straight T trap offense, that is even more annoying.

Gravatar Jaron Brown committed to Clemson

Gravatar spot on gsimms...32 belly option, etc. I do remember those with some prompting...

we were terrible.

Gravatar I tried watching the basketball game last night. But they kept sucking. And then the Democratic Primary debate came on, and lo and behold, that was more interesting.

During the time I was watching the game, however, I realized that I'm an incredibly stupid observer of bball. I kept thinking to myself 'these guys have no offense, they're just playing streetball and throwing up bricks,' which was the exact same thought I had anytime I watched an Amaker team play.

But it can't possibly be true that the guys are doing the same damn thing with Beilein that they were doing with Amaker. Thus my conclusion I can't analyze my way out of a wet paper bag when it comes to bball.

Yes, this comment was all about me me me. Maybe that's why I like Pryor.

Gravatar @Gnarls

I left the Indiana game early (they were really, really bad back then). The one in 1979; saw every play but one.

(hangs head it total shame)

Gravatar Damn, that was depressing. How about a hockey update previewing this weekend's games?

Gravatar The cross-buck was the play I hated because if the D-lineman didn't pick up the pulling guard, i had to figure out how to get around a make the tackle and at 5-10 and 185 it was a mismatch. We had good DL though so it didn't happen much.

Gravatar This is NOT on Beilein, it's on Amaker. This team is atrocious.

Manny Harris will be good, but Beilein needs a few recruiting classes before he makes an impact.

Gravatar For those of you who are too young to know (which is, I think, most of you), Cazzie Russell was one of the greatest players ever to play college basketball - and not a bad pro.

Russell, Bill Buntin, Oliver Darden, George Pomey and Larry Tregoning (sp?) earned a place in college bball history with back-to-back Final Fours. They lost the championship games to Duke (I think) and the UCLA team that started the streak, but that does not diminish their accomplishments very much.

Brian is right. It is sad that Cazzie had to see that. Now that he's seen the bottom, let's hope that Beilein can right the ship and Cazzie will be invited back to see the top.

Gravatar you were a smaller type ss

i was 6'3 225 strong safety....

of course i have had a bunch of ss that were about your size, so i guess i was above average size....

Gravatar gsims,

I still say the 1-3-1 is the best half-court trap defense in the game. If you teach kids to take smart risks, you will force turnovers all day. There's a guy that is helping coach at my old HS, he's in the Florida HS hall of fame and he's retired now, but he knows the 1-3-1 like no other. Had HS kids executing it flawlessly in two weeks.

Gravatar I admired Beilein's WVU Pittsnoggle teams--it's the last time I really found myself getting excited about a college hopp team. But a) I agree that the team getting worse (as if they're giving up? terrifying) b; don't even have Brian's confidence that Beilein eventually wins here, and c) think it's possible Beilein et al. could suffer through 3-4 seasons of abject dismality and get fired without EVER implement his system with his players. Over on the mlive board people are saying Harris may bolt, which would be an outright disaster for Beilein. . .

Gravatar im from minneapolis, the drive is closer ti 12 hours because you have to drive through chicago, which is just bad no matter when you drive. fuckin gophers.

Gravatar I had been a CB my jr year and because we weren't deep my senior year i played it when our starters got hurt. I was a pretty sure tackler and most teams ran a lot (montana weather can force that) so at times I'd be like a LB. You were an enormous SS any any league I've ever seen.

Gravatar when i was girls coach, i used the 1-3-1 almost exclusivley becasue, a)nobody runs it, b)girls cant make that cross court pass...

Gravatar This season, the BBall team is giving us a rare treat, an almost miraculous occurrence. We can live vicariously through the eyes of fans of another school.

Being NorthWestern.

We should sell tickets for $200 a pop. Just watch out for traffic on the Turnpike.

Gravatar I think we should've known this team was going to suck when early in the season Beilein went around telling everyone who would listen that this team was terrible.

Gravatar that's so true with girls hoops. I know a guy who coaches girls middle school hoops. Runs a 4 high against man and the girls line up across the top of the 3-pt line or higher and the PG just lobs it to the middle of the key for a layup. Swear to god it works 15 times a game and no one figures out to not suck up out of the key.

Gravatar i problaby played more around 200 in hs, but i was a pretty good te as well, but never embraced it, alwyas thought of myself as a qb. and thought that was my ticket...

but of course i always liked defense more, and that was what teams were looking at me for...

Gravatar The next time any rumor posted on the MLive board comes to fruition will be the first.

The thing I don't understand about the offense is it seems designed to have the 5 (Udoh or Gibson) at the top of the key about 50% of the time. If our 5's could shoot like WVU 5's (or Rasheed), then this would make sense and be difficult to defend, but mostly it just pulls our best rebounder and interior scorers (Udoh especially) away from the basket.

The reason Beilein would win at WVU with 2*'s is that he would find guys that could shoot and wouldn't turn the ball. Our guys can't shoot and turn the ball over like crazy (although less than last year - Thanks Tommy!). Not such a good fit.

Hopefully we pull off a miracle and sign Plumlee and Morris for '09, although that's about as likely as Pryor.

Gravatar of course, i have seen some great girls basketball players around this area...

kelly smith, plays at wvu now, averaged about 30 points a game in hs... about 6'0 shooting guard

grimsley's entire starting five will be playing at the next level...

page has a girl going to boston college...

Gravatar where'd you play cfb at? I walked on and RS at Western Washington but the out of state tuition was too much so I joined the Navy, injured my back and went back to school. Always had a better mind for the game than athletic ability (not super fast or big for a DB/WR)

Gravatar ohgodohgodohgodohgodohgod what if the football team ends up like the basketball team ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Gravatar no way dex. TA didn't even leave the cupboards bare, he took the cupboards off. Carr left good enough talent to be at or above 500

Gravatar The football team has slightly better talent than the basketball team. And by slightly, I mean monumentally. And by monumentally, I mean cosmically.

Gravatar harding univeristy

like i said.... i had soe interest from schools like gvs, and some of the dierctional schools ... for football, ferris state and oakland for bball,

but i had a terrible senior year, and all interest went away pretty quickly...

Gravatar It may take a few years for the system to start working, but not being able to shoot... I'm not sure that's a "system" thing. If there are rumors about Harris transferring, it would almost be understandable.

I guess what I'm most disappointed in is that there's no transition to this system. The kids have been thrown in sink or swim, and they're confidence has to have taken a hit. I think that's the "lack of improvement" we're seeing.

Gravatar Gsims,

What's your email? I have a lengthy question for you.

Gravatar This is the kind of year Sparky Anderson described when he noted, "Sometimes you just have to take your beatings."

Yes, there's radical transition from one system to another, but I doubt Tommy A. would have done much better with this bunch. Watching Zack Gibson makes me pine for Josh Asselin.

Gravatar i agree w/ james.... for better of worse beilein tossed them in the pool before they were prepared to swim on their own. hopefully this tactic bears fruit long term.

Gravatar gsimmons85@netscape.net

Gravatar \ 6-1 losses to Northern Michigan at Yost//

Come on...this never actually happened.

Gravatar I've heard rumblings that Beilein is courting Antoine Joubert to teach these young whippersnappers a thing or two about scoring. The Judge never saw a shot he didn't like and would be a great addition to the staff. How exciting!

Gravatar Yeah, that's the fundamental problem. Amaker recruited guys who played 1-on-1, in-your-face street ball. Beilein requires a disciplined, cerebral approach to the game - the exact opposite of what these guys have done all their lives. Unfortunately, Beiliein is Beilein - he has his system and that's what he wants done. These guys just don't fit.

Beilein's ideal player is 7'8" tall and can hit 90% from the 3-point line. We don't have many of those at the moment.

Gravatar @Blue Durham

OMG You left before the single most exciting sports moment that I have ever witnessed in my life. AC was the bomb and that was his best play ever.

Gravatar Depressing.

Gravatar Has there been any more insight into the Daniels thing??

Has he, or anyone commented on the situation??

Gravatar The struggles the team faces right now are expected. THEY SUCK
Can't turn sows ear into a silk purse.
IT will come, and this season will only sweeten the success in the future.

Gravatar i haven't been to any games at crisler this year, but as of last year, the PA guy is the same guy who does the tigers' games. his style is different from the classics at michigan stadium & yost (sort of classic, since the new guy took over 5 years ago), but i don't think he's bad.

Gravatar This is why Amaker beat us. He lucked into better talent than he could've recruited/coached. Which is extremely depressing because it's Harvard. Meaning no scholarships.

Gravatar Ok, I've been following the comments for a couple weeks. My new coworkers must think I'm crazy with all the laughing I do. Just wanted to say a couple things...

1) I left the 1995 Pigskin Classic early. Yup, the comeback against UVA. Of course I was in 5th grade and with my mom.

2) The HS football convo... I hate big S. My best friend was a 6'3" 215 S who benched over 300lb. I was a 6' 180 lb DL. D6 rules.

3) The 1-3-1 is the biggest pain in the ass to play against.

4) I heard Antonio Bass was coming back this year?

Gravatar Blame the last coach? you idoits are starting to sound a lot like ND fans......

Gravatar JARON BROWN GOES TO CLEMSON BECAUSE HE IS DUMB.

Gravatar Mr. Flood -

Yeah, left because I had midterms and wanted to beat the crowd. Indiana was horrible and had no right to be on the same field. M must have been 30+ point favorites.

Dammit, I can still hear the crowd roar when I was at the main gate. Damned obvious what happened

Gravatar geevee, dont hate man..

i have found, since i turned 32 that my bench press has now droped below 300 and my squat the same i was almost a 400+500 guy at one time,

dont worrie big guys come back to earth, now not only am i not as strong, but because of my size, im having premature back problems, knee and ankle problems. and shoulder problems....

and my playes laugh when i say that i use to be farily athletic, and could dunk...

Gravatar Michigan has talent. Harris, Sims and Grady are all talented and even Udoh has skills that could be put to use. But they're also young, can't shoot the three-ball and playing in a system that at times seems to be working more against them than for them.

Gravatar The knee problems for me started with a chop block to the side in the first game of the playoffs.

Gravatar @MazeHead

I scoff at the ND fans that blame their miserable performance on Ty's terrible recruiting despite Charlie bringing in 2 very good classes and the Ty remnants still being more talented than Navy and AF. But it's OK to do with UM basketball and Amaker. I mean, different situation and scope, right? Anyone? I'm not a closet domer-sympathizer, am I?

Gravatar @James

The drop off in skills from the players with talent to the others is huge, even when the other players on the team are healthy.

Gravatar that sucks geevee, sorry to hear that, i was able to stay relatively injury free... which im said to say menas, i have no excuss for my failures....

Gravatar I've heard rumblings that Beilein is courting Antoine Joubert to teach these young whippersnappers a thing or two about scoring. The Judge never saw a shot he didn't like and would be a great addition to the staff. How exciting!
Clueless | 02.01.08 - 3:00 pm |

I just cannot believe that. The Pudge never learned a damn thing in 4 years at Michigan - he was the same player as a senior as he was as a freshman. What is it now - "those who never learn, teach"???

Gravatar @TrueBlueLaw

Look - if Beilein's team sucks next year and the year after that with no signs of getting any better, then we may conclude at that point that Beilein is not a good fit at Michigan. But even if that comes to pass, it doesn't mean that Tommy "I Never Took Michigan to the NCAAs in Six Years" Amaker was any good.

Different than Charlie "We will have a decisive x's and o's advantage in every game we play" Weis getting throttled by the school's two biggest rivals in his third year by identical scores of 38-0.

In the domers' defense (sort of), just because Weis sucks doesn't mean that Willingham also did not suck.

Gravatar James,
They can't shoot the 3-ball, they can't shoot the 2-ball, and they can't shoot the lay-up-ball.
What. The. Fuck. It is very painful to watch and I don't blame anyone for leaving the site of that train wreck.

Gravatar Anyone know why Cazzie wasn't a candidate the last two times we hired a b-ball coach?

Gravatar also, that picture of Cazzie with the thousand yard stare is priceless. This year's team was obviously on his mind at the time.

Gravatar Cazzie has never coached basketball at any significant level that I am aware of. I think he was a CBA coach at one point.

Gravatar When does Drew Sharp's slam job piece on Tom Brady come out?

Gravatar When you guys buy your star players to win championsh- oh, right, never got any with the Fa-, let's just say the five, or really the 3+2... And then get stripped of your credentials, is it any wonder no one with any talent will play for you in hoops? even after a decade? I mean seriosly! Why would anyone in their right mind go to AA with that track record?
(And by the way, it kind of makes one suspect the football program for similar foul play, that hasn't blipped on the radar yet, given their "success" of the past years).
hmmm

Gravatar What's that smell?

Gravatar All things take time. Although I still think Michigan should have taken Sean Miller.

Gravatar caup '91 - I agree, it's painful. But it's even more painful watching guys with no business beyond the arc launching three after three. I think Harris has a little floater, Sims can put it on the floor and get to the basket and Grady, well, he's quick and could at least penetrate and dish. A more conventional O might give them half a chance.

Admittedly, how you transition from there to Beilein Ball over time isn't clear to me.

But we'll see. Beilein does deserve some time. And Amaker wasn't the answer.

Gravatar magic got aids from a hooker

Gravatar Sparty, what are you doing here? I thought your shift at Wal-Mart ended at 5?

Gravatar Didn't we win a national title before the Fab5? Weird.

Gravatar Actually, I think Magic got AIDS from Jamie Huffman.

Gravatar http://bentley.umich.edu/athdept...aa/ ruscazaa.htm cazzie looks sweet in this pic haha

Gravatar that announcer guy is also the biggest thing wrong with comerica park. any douchebag student doing that job would improve the atmosphere.

Gravatar Didn't mom tell lil' bro to go to school today.

Gravatar kgh,

you are probably too young to remember,

glen rice...gah just saying that name gives me goosebumps....

Gravatar keegan, i repsonded to your email...

if i can help you in the future, let me know, i dont have alot of connections in michigan highschools but i have a few

Gravatar gsims - I was 1 years old when he played here.

Gravatar thanks kgh....

you could have just said, yeah im too young, or just said i agree...

i was in 9th grade, still thinking i would be the next glen rice, and be a two sport all-american...

Gravatar you can see the beginning glimmers of competence in regards to the bball team running coach b's offense. by the time of the b10 tourney one hopes that the backdoor cuts will come the instant *before* the back-pick is set (pay close attention next time you watch...the cutter is too slow in making his cut; as well, the pick-man is often late in setting the pick, the point-man is virtually always slow making any passes, etc.). with increased competence players will make intuitive plays.

bball is like any other sport where reacting is better than thinking. increased flow will cause more space in the half-court sets which will lead to more open looks. the players *seem* to be figuring out spacing and movement; they just are not comfortable in this system to where it (the system) flows naturally (the youth of the team sure doesn't help either).

Gravatar hahahah...well, you know what, you've actually experienced what great (and fair) UM basketball looks like ok?

Gravatar When a team runs its offense 30 feet from the basket with pass away, screen away, this is the result. Especially with players who may have never learned how to come of a screen or slip one. I'm still waiting to see the back cuts I saw happen on a regular basis at WVU...and when I say "what I saw at WVU" I mean "what I saw on TV when nothing else was happening".

Surely Beilein will be good for the Blues Crew. But it was nasty watching what little I could of it last night here in Texas on BTN.

Gravatar Glen Rice, now that dude was a stud, but my favorite was Gary Grant....I remember sneaking into Dooleys (I think that was the name) and drinking beers with that dude.

Gravatar yeah gary grant was awesome, i remember hating jr reid, and north carolina for always knocking him out of the tourny....

glen rice could score when ever he wanted to, and in 89 had one of the greatest tourny's in history... that was when the big ten was loaded too....

Gravatar and im one of the few, that still loves the fab five.... i mean after all, i played agasint most of them in summer leagues growing up, and the year after they came on the scene, my senior year, we all got long silk shorts, so i went from the tight to the long, i was there for the transition!!! that is pretty cool...

Gravatar I can recall a certain National Championship game between Indiana and Michigan (1976). First time two schools from the same conference met in the finals.

I saw Tomjanovich and Russell et al. play on TV when I was a kid, but I was too young to remember much about it.

Gravatar @ Cfaller

Don't compound your problems by watching politicians debate. And by debate, I mean recite answers from advisors until people fall asleep and vote for you just to shut you up.

Gravatar i was in the student section yesterday right behind the bench and the best example of it not being beilein's fault was after cj lee drove to the basket when we had cut it to ten beilein turns to the bench and simply yells, "what in the heck was he doing? is he insane? thats exactly what we want not to do" and then he continued to "talk" to lee on the bench for the next 3 minutes. it just seems our guys cant hold on to anything worth while he has to say

Gravatar @narrowhaven -

i cannot begin to count the number of times i beg a player to scrape off of a pick rather than loop around it. this seems to me to be more a function of youth than poor fit. (any player worth his salt can play in any system in bball, assuming ego and habit can be subsumed.)

Gravatar Is haloscan broken for anyone else, I can't refresh.

Gravatar yes- Glen Rice. I remember when he was a sophomore and was basically playing center. Averaged like 13 rebs a game playing on a pretty crappy team.

Gravatar Brian I think you've underestimated that the PA announcer creates 5% of the misery in Crisler. The guy just ruins everything that happens in the place. Hey Michigan fans, who wants some free piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaa?!!!! What an assclown. The Tigers and the Michigan athletic department should both hang their heads in shame for listening to this guy and then actually saying to themselves, "Yep, that's what we want."

Gravatar anon in a2

FUNDAMENTALS. Few top hoops players have them these days and little things like that aren't taught in HS. Some of these elite AAU teams play Men's league pick up games style of basketball. It's sad.

Gravatar AAU basketball= the death of higschool basketball and the death of fundamentals....

at a clinic last year at mrytle beach, larry brown was blamning AAU for why america sucks in international basketball now.... no fundamentals...

Gravatar I remember Gary Grant as a freshmen scoring the winning basket over Indiana's center and giving UM the big ten championship.

Gravatar @keegan-

amen brother.

when you are young you cannot believe all the bs repetition that occurs in practice. with age and wisdom you realize your coaches were trying to use pavlovian techniques to make playing in their systems second nature. by d-1 college one hopes the players get it (i personally think coach b's system is working...folks just need to take a rather large valium and enjoy the "baby steps to the elevator" progress all of us optimists are seeing.)

Gravatar @ gsimmons85 -

ditto that 'amen brother'

Gravatar I'm not sweating B's learning curve. When Rick Pitino says "he's the best teacher of the game in college" you learn not to worry if it's going to work.

Gravatar @keegan -

agreed. the incompetence the bball team is exhibiting seems to stem from discomfiture with what is being asked of them. the previous regimes (amaker, ellerby and (offensively at least) fischer) displayed a marked lack of scheme. (i.e. how many bad sets were run out of time-outs.)

Gravatar The douchebag announcer guy should be replaced with the boom-goes-the-dynamite kid.

Gravatar ^^^^i.e. should be e.g. apologies to all.

Gravatar The Minnesota student section road trip had been in the works since November. I guess Michigan won the exacta? (yeah, haven't been to the race track for a while) of being within a days drive and having an almost guaranteed empty arena.

Soon you'll be Pittnogleing everyone though. Keep your heads up.

Gravatar So if we get Pryor, will he play basketball too?

Tai Streets doubled up at one point in his career.

Pryor could be a monster for recruiting.

Gravatar Scout just posted the latest list of visitors. does anyone have access? Thanks.

Gravatar GLEN RICE.

Yes.

He is coming.

With Sean Higgins.

From way downtown.

Sarkisian says so.

Basketball will be good again.

Yes.

Gravatar Not sure on the total list, but Ricky Barnum will be here/is here. He's a Fla commit but would be a very nice pick up if possible. Don't really think that's going to happen though...

Gravatar It would be nice to get anyone away from the UrbanAsshole.

Gravatar More from RR

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/ne...tory? id=3226229

Gravatar Eh, I just skimmed it now.. not much there.

Gravatar "you know, those ones that hit the bone and make you think the other guy is kind of a dick who doesn't know where the limits are" - LOL, great line.

Gravatar Glen Rice just beat me up. Man, you guys have no clue what you inherited. All this bullshit about the 1-3-1 being complex is laughable. Its not the spread offense its a gawdam zone...one play. Your coach b is out of his league and the loss of top tier d-1 ballers will continue to Oregon, Memphis, Msu, Syracuse because your coach inability to relate or deal with Detroit/Flint h.s. coaches/players.

He's fucking recruiting pasty stiffs from upstate NY? He's got Detroit/Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Flint, Cincy, and Columbus all within ear shot....

Gravatar Sometimes I wonder if Deshawn Sims can dunk, because I have never seen a 6'8'' player that is so bad around the rim. He misses more lay ups than anyone else in the world

Gravatar A relevant article from today's Free Press:

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.d...6/80201013/ 1054

He's right about the percentages.

20 3-point shots, make 30% of them = 18 points.

20 2-point shots to get 18 points = 9
9/20 = 45%

So a 30% 3-point shooter will score as much as a 45% 2-point shooter.

Gravatar Last I talked to Manny, he loves it here. During his recruitment, he was never really at a risk of leaving, even with Beilein coming in. He's the best player on this team, and in time Beilein with trust him more and give him an even larger part of the offense.

Next time you're at the game Brian, come down and sit in the bleachers with us. I'm the guy in the sombrero that dances like an idiot. Because I am an idiot, and that's what we do.

Gravatar soj,

"All this bullshit about the 1-3-1 being complex is laughable. Its not the spread offense its a gawdam zone...one play."

once again you have proven....

you know nothing about anything....

Gravatar Oh good. Someone at the Freep learned what expected value is.

Gravatar The only part of the bball equation that we need be concerned about is recruiting. This man can coach. He has few players. If he continues to have few players, he will do better, but not be elite. If he gets studs, he will be great.

Way too early to judge his recruiting, although the early returns are not encouraging. Jorel is right - bline needs to keep a decent slice of in-state talent.

Gravatar No way! 45/30 = 3/2?

Gravatar "jimmies and joes, not x's and o's"

I love that phrase, gsimms.

maybe Beilein can implement that philosophy and get some kids in there that can be taught and have passion.

I wont pass judgment on Beilein or RR until a 5 year body of work is assembled. Losing sucks; thanks God we did fall that far in football.

Hey, at least the stock market was up!

Gravatar I gotta say, after seeing the crappy recruits that Amaker brought in, I actually have more repect for him as a X's and O's basketball coach. Sure his recuiting sucked, but how was he able to win with these guys?

Gravatar thank God we did fall that far in football."

meant to say didnt.....

(whatever)

You'd be amazed at how many people are baffled by 3rd grade math. :-(

Gravatar gsimms, good to see barwis is letting you back on the computer

Gravatar Yeah, Brian, come on down to the bleachers the next time you're at a game and hang with some of us. You saw the post from Mark, the sombrero guy, I'm Andrew and I wear an obnoxious stripey shirt and a hardhat. You can meet us, we'd love to talk to you, and you can also get a copy of the Rage Page which my roommate writes and is oh so wonderful.

Basically what I'm saying is that it'll be a good distraction from the awful basketball.

Gravatar thanks OGB

Gravatar The Maize Rage should be a lot louder and into games, even with an awful Bball team. I know it is hard, but they fall flat in clutch situations.

Then again, outside of Yost, all Michigan sections do.

Yes, I'm completely jaded.

Gravatar FWIW, Tom has confirmed this info:

It seems even the camp at Michigan that were confident about TP have moved to saying there is a chance but not likely.

Gravatar I like the Jerrett Smith burn. I can't believe Amaker wasted a scholarship on him. Does Donny Wohl still have any elgibility? I miss him.

Reed Baker too, God he would've been perfect in our system. Glad Amaker gave him a one year scholarship to nowhere and then completely underutilized him.

Gravatar there is a highschool coach out of wisconsin, cant remember his name, is the best at teaching the 1-3-1 i have ever seen....
gsimmons85 | 02.01.08 - 2:22 pm |

is it jon murphy seymour,wi????

Gravatar gents, cross your fingers for Justin Feagin this weekend. cause Pryor ain't coming and without Feagin, it's pretty slim pickins at Quarterback U.

Gravatar I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet because I didn't read all the comments, but the large number of Minnesota students was due to the Big 10 Network series that is following their basketball season. They had their own cameras there documenting the trip.

Gravatar On a happier note, a couple of big hockey games this weekend.

Gravatar Thank you sooooooo much for leaving the picture of "Bike" Hart on the main page...

...But why not some love for Shawn "late hit" Crable, or Chad "Clutch" Henne???

Gravatar Can we get a picture of the greatest Michigan coach ever on the front page? John Cooper.

Gravatar Why not a picture of Bo with all his National Championship Rings? Oh....wait...never mind.

Gravatar fearthevest,

Try this pic out for size:

www.cnnsi.com/.../07/01/blowups/hayes_woody.gif

Gravatar So, with all these losses to the SEC is Tressel going to take out his frustrations on someone from Clemson too?

Gravatar I am partial to the one with App St player diving in for another score.

Gravatar Ha Ha. No, he pretty much takes it out on you every year.

Gravatar Thanks to FearTheVest, I've finally realized what assholes the fans of Ohio State are. I'm going to sign with Michigan.

Gravatar Do you prefer Geaux Tigers or Gator Bait?

Or maybe 57-40?

Gravatar you are right - lets just stick with the picture of "Bike" Hart.

Gravatar Vest,

Yeah, I guess both of those cost our coaches their jobs.

Gravatar We all know that the only one who can truly pull off the vest is Chuck Martin. Now that's a man.

Gravatar Tubby seems to be doing just fine with even a worse team coming back from last year than Michigan.

Gravatar Watching last nights game reminding me of playing NHL 98 as Britain against, say, the Red Wings.

Gravatar Dana- you're hot.

Touche chip f, touche.

Gravatar Kevin Quick kicked off the hockey team.

Gravatar 1-0 NMU after 1.

Gravatar Terrelle-
FU.

Gravatar Just watch your back, chump. I'm comin' for you.

Gravatar Guard Thompson

Gravatar Just so you know, FeartheVest, the notorious Crable flag was a helmet-to-helmet call, not a late hit call. It makes a difference.

Gravatar Damn. Tied at 3.

Gravatar From an ESPN article on Pryor:

"The school [Oregon] has come on strong down the stretch, presumably pitching its explosive spread offense would highlight the dual-threat QB's skills more than any other program"

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/r...illy& id=3225626

ESPN seems to take Pryor to Oregon very seriously, whereas everyone else has all but ruled them out.

Gravatar Get back to work, Chip.

Gravatar FIRE DREW SHARP

Yes

It must be done

Bring in anyone

Anyone else

Even Stephen A.

Yes

Gravatar Unbelievable how an completely crappy home effort generates nearly 200 comments. Anyway, I wouldn't hate on Sims or Harris too much, they are very talented and will be better when they buy into Beilein's system. Harris had a lot of turnovers but Minnesota has forced everybody into turnovers all year (20+ by Mich St and Indiana for example).

Gopher Nation

Gravatar I like how there's 5 comments within the last 5 hours.

LAME.

Gravatar all trolls go away

Gravatar So I'm at Penn State right now. EVERY SINGLE PERSON I've talked to says TP to UM. The optimism I feel is astounding.

The WVU women's gymanstics team is in the hotel I'm staying at. I wouldn't mind 'stealing' a few of them too.

Gravatar i hope they are right

Gravatar Toledo mane, I'm not a troll, just drunk. I'm forever in debt to your semi-anti-copyright Rivals coverage because my university is on an Indian res, with the biggest casino in the midwest, which means i dont't have enough money to get a rivals subscription of my own, and for that I will forever love you.

I'd like to nail a WVU gymnast or two right now but their family members most likely have already gotten to them. FOR SHAME>

Gravatar Not to mention, the story behind my commenting handle is...how to put it...awesome.

Let's just say its a friend's drunken alter ego who passed out, woke up, and put on his football gear and claimed to have rushed for over 12,000 yards in one season for the University of Michigan-Florida campus.

Gravatar PSU people think Pryor to UM, UM people think Pryor to OSU, and OSU people think Pryor to OSU.

After watching film of steven threet - I'm casting my lot with him, he is a lot more athletic than people give him credit for and it seems like he took every snap in a shotgun spread system.

Gravatar I'm hoping he keeps drinking like that so he gets drunk enough to beat his new 16yr old girlfriend senseless because my god she is annoying.

Gravatar Speaking of Threet, my roommate used to get hammered with the guy back in Adrian, and said he's a good dude but wasn't really impressed by his play in high school.

Then again this same guy gets offended when I tell him I'd like to fuck his sister.

Gravatar I was impressed by Threet's game film - he was a 4* recruit for a reason, if this guy was a bum UM and GT would not have given him a scholarship.

I'd bet on the fact the he starts against Utah.

Gravatar I remember the first time I met someone from west virginia, the first thing she said after saying she was from WV was: "Believe it or not we do wear shoes there."

Gravatar JHS,

I can't say the best bet is Threet for Utah. I can't say there is a true best bet until after signing day when we know who is even in the running.

Actually, I take that back, since its either Cone or Threet only in the running right now, Threet is my bet too.

Gravatar Those gymnasts don't look too inbred.

Women's athletes are the best to hit on.

"Congratulations, you're the first women's volleyball player I've ever met that doesn't look liek a man" get the girls psyched every time.

Gravatar But going back to where I was going...

I somewhat have to assume that if Threet is the QB for next year, the coaches would be designing a gameplan for him. If we get TP, they will use a WVU-esque playbook. As much faith as I have to place in the coaches, I still wonder if they will design the new offense for Threet to excel in or will they just say TP is as good and were throwing him right into the WVU offense. I can't say that I trust the coaching staff enough yet (having done very little so far) to put the effort to design two offenses during the offseason and make them similar enough to where we can adjust to one or the other.

I mean in spring ball, we will have to practice Threet style offense right? TP won't be here. We won't have any "dual threat" QBs to practice with. So do we teach the offense the Threet offense during Spring ball, then switch to a TP style offense during the summer sessions? I'm too drunk to properly articulate my thoughts here. Is anyone understanding my general worry?

Gravatar TP DID say he was willing to redshirt...

I wonder how capable grade-wise he was of actually enrolling at whatever school he'll chose?

I think he'll be the first to go directly to the NFL, but that's just IMHO.

Gravatar *enrolling early is what I meant to say.

Gravatar I say that they practice the Threet version of the offense and use TP as a change of pace. The change of pace plays, at least from the outside, look to be easier to implement. He doesn't need the whole play book to be successful on only a few downs.

Tebow last year is a good example of a very limited playbook that worked.

Gravatar Last year meaning the one before this past year. aka 2 years ago if you are picky.

Gravatar Interesting article about Urban Meyer's negative recruiting tactics and what he tried to pull on Darryl Stonum.

http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/ ...e=feldman_bruce

Never realized the guy was so shady. Anyone else read it?

Gravatar Whoops! Didn't realize it was insider. Here's the Stonum clip:

Darryl Stonum, a Michigan recruit, on a conversation with Meyer: "He told me that he talked to Coach [Lloyd] Carr and Coach Soup [Erik Campbell] and that they told him that I would be a much better fit in the Florida offense than I would be in the one at Michigan. I thought, wow, my coaches are selling me out? I confronted them about it. I asked Coach Carr and Coach Soup about it and they said they never talked to that guy and that there was no way they ever said anything like that and that they think I should be a Wolverine. I believed them. Right then, I knew just how Florida rolled."

Gravatar Urban Meyer reminds me so much of my 8th grade teacher that got booted from my local private high school for dating 17yr olds it isn't even funny.

I commend the man for such things

Gravatar I wonder if Meyer still thinks that the officiating cost him the bowl game.

Do you think he is that deluded or did he cringe when he watched the tapes?

Gravatar I think Urban Cryer sells coke to 15 year old girls with the hope of selling them into slavery for his football team.

Gravatar My fourth grade teacher got fired for beating children, and my elementary school guidance counselor got fired for touching boys. Urban Meyer is far worse than I had it in elementary school. He likes to sell porn to minors and finger their tender assholes when they aren't looking. When I say "finger" I mean "ream with his cock."

P.S. I've been drinking vodka and Red Bulls for the last 5 hours, it took me 7 minutes to type this without grammatical errors. Goodnight all.

Gravatar Ian Poulter... can you say douchebag?

Gravatar This is funnier then that time we beat Florida

Gravatar God you're stupid, MusketRebellion.

Gravatar i think it's perfectly fine to say the previous coaches recruiting efforts impact the teams performance in the first couple of years after. But it cuts both ways.

If you win, the other guy deserves credit, if you lose, the other guy deserves blame. Like Larry Coker at Miami or Barry Switzer in Dallas.

Notre Dame fans are douchebags because they don't give Ty any credit for fatweiss's wins his first two years, and they are giving him all the blame for the third.

If belien's team's still suck in year three, then that's a problem. but weiss has been getting more and more of his 'own' players and the team has gotten worse and worse.

Gravatar I still can't believe that ND gave Weis that massive extension. I wonder if Charlie's got the leniency of the administration at ND. If he goes 3 - 9 or something equally as terrible this year what do they do? Wait for his prized recruiting classes to get to sr and jr status? Or do they fire him and bring in someone who actually is a good coach, and not someone who claims to be. I said this before, it will be scary when ND fires Weis and brings in a good coach with all that talent that they've been assembling.

Gravatar So, I got my friend's rivals subscription. FWIW, they're reporting the following:

*** QB Dominick Britt was a late add for this weekend's visit. He doesn't, however, have an offer as of now. They also so that he's bringing HS teammate **** WR Roy Roundtree with him. Roundtree is a commit at Purdue. Both are teammates of current Michigan commit Brandon Moore, and target **** RB Michael Shaw.

Also, their recruiting dude seems to say that Terrence Robinson to Michigan is a done deal, and he'll be announcing Sunday.

Gravatar Scout is saying the same thing chitown

Gravatar Their guy also says that most people who have seen Britt don't seem to think he's a D-I QB. So there's that.

If you see his game-film, he's so skinny it looks like he's running on two strands of linguine.

Gravatar I hope we extend offers to all of them. They all mentioned they would like to play college ball together, and each would contribute for us.

Gravatar They say Vince Young looked like that entering college too. Give Barwis a year with him, and he'll muscle up

Gravatar I was not impressed with Britt's video. He would be ok as an emergency back up, we do need another QB.

Gravatar He actually throws a nice deep ball - his film shows him hitting covered guys in stride. It seems like he's a better thrower than Feagin, but not nearly as athletic. Of course, not many people think Feagin is even a QB.

If we get one, we sort of need the other, as they're both far from sure things - if Britt would help us land Shaw, I'd be happy.

Gravatar Britt has only played QB for two years, only one of which was with an actual QB coach. He's definately raw, but with the proper coaching and conditioning, lotsa upside

Gravatar The one thing I like is that the coaching staff clearly thought he was good enough to throw regularly - even though they had Shaw at RB. He threw for a ton of yards in HS. I get wary when I see Feagin's stats (700 yards?) - if HS coach is afraid to have him throw, what the hell is he going to do in college?

Gravatar As for WR Roundtree, not so fast, but supposedly Awesome hands.

Gravatar Also the reason we didn't offer earlier were academic issues, that have been cleared up.

Gravatar I just dont see him ever being a starting QB here. That being said we need a body in that position. He may be able to play something else after we get better situated next year.

Gravatar I think its impossible to predict at this point. But definately worth a "flier", especially if it helps bring Shaw here

Gravatar I agree about Shaw.

Gravatar Rumpel - I think the big thing is that, right now, we need bodies there. Right now, we have Threet and Cone (who should never even be allowed to look at a football). So esentially, we just have Threet. I think we need at least 2 QB's in this class just so that we don't have to put Cone on the field at any point. If we don't get Pryor, hopefully we land Feagin and Britt, and then get a highly-touted player next year.

It seems like Feagin would be more likely to suceed at a non-QB position - he seems considerably more athletic than Britt while being nowhere near as good a passer.

Gravatar All three "experts" on Scout, predict Perry signs with us

Gravatar NYBlue - agreed, he's definitely worth a flier.

Gravatar Chitown, does Rivals say whether or not Moore and Shaw accompanied Britt and Roundtree to A2?

Gravatar Balas on Rivals, while not flat-out saying we have him, seems fairly enthusiastic about Perry. Also, apparently Martin cancelled his visit to ND.

Gravatar I wonder if this WR prospect Roundtree is related to Richard Roundtree a/k/a Shaft. If Roundtree comes to UM, that has to be his nickname.

I say try to bring them all, Britt, Roundtree, Shaw, and Moore.

Gravatar They said Roundtree did, but no word on Moore and Shaw - but have had their official visits, right?

What I can't make sense of is this Florida kid - no one seems to think we'll get him, so why is he there?

Gravatar Murl, Agree with you 100%

Gravatar Good question, its not like A2 is a great vacation spot in Feb.

Gravatar Right - some kids just take visits to Miami and the like for a vacation. Maybe he's a cross-country skier?

Gravatar I agree the extension was really stupid. But at ND with their own football network they where desperate to stop the coaching merry-go-round they could easy become. I think they were afraid Weiss was just using ND to get a NFL head position. If ND shows just a little improvement this year there will be grumblings but I think they stick with him. He probably has 2 or 3 years to prove he is the coaching genius he thinks he is. This means at least 10-2 and in the NC hunt almost every year. Like the shirt says they still expect to return to glory and will keep changing coaches until they get there.

Gravatar If we end up w/ Shaw we'll have so many RB options next year it's not even funny. We'll have 5 players that I could see starting at tailback (Brown, Minor, Grady, McGuffie, Shaw).

Gravatar Has Wilson oficially de-comitted? Dont forget we have Cox too.

Gravatar Isn't Cox like 2-stars, though? He's facing an uphill battle.

I wonder if Grady's style (minus fumbling) is really going to fit in with this offense - Minor, too.

Gravatar Scout has Cox at 4 stars. I think he was two earlier though. Minor has some speed.
http://michigan.scout.com/a.z?s=...c=1& nid=3211270

Gravatar And what about Avery Horn? He has wheels. Position switch to DB?

Gravatar Maybe special teams.

Gravatar Rumple,

Cox's stars were added partially from the UM offer and commitment. I think he's around a mid-3 without UM's offer.

Gravatar Keegan
I agree. I was just pointing out that we now have plenty of good to maybe great running backs. He also wasnt on chitown's list.

Gravatar Kinda excited to see some speed on special teams.

Gravatar All season we were never even close to breaking a return. It was the first season in a while that I felt that way.

Gravatar Johnny Sears had a few exciting returns. Not for his running, though.

Gravatar I hate Johnny Sears.

Rumple, I agree. RR will have a ton of RB's at his disposal and the next year could be a log jam in the backfield. And with that crazy spread and no clear Star player, it will be a great mix with a ton of "change of pace" backs.

Gravatar I was watching Threet's tape on Rivals...he actually is fairly fast. He worked the shotgun at Adrian - didn't look all bad. Anyone else see his clips?

Gravatar do you have a link Sack?

Gravatar http://rivals100.rivals.com/ view...ey=44954#videos

Go to the bottom one that says "Jackets get Offensive Threet"

That video doesn't work, but it shows a few underneath that work.

Gravatar He moves alright, but he's got more of a Tyler Donovan/Todd Boekman type mobility than a "oh shit, there he goes" type.

Gravatar Donovan owned us with his mobility this year. Plus, Barwis will trim him down...scare the speed out of him.

Gravatar I understand that people are excited about Barwis, but come on, the answer to every single critique of every single player can't be "Barwis will fix that".

I agree, though, that Donovan did beat us up with the scrambles - but obviously, there's a far cry from the sort of mobility that Donovan possesses and the mobility that Vince Young, Troy Smith, Terrelle Pryor possess.

Gravatar Let's recuit Pee Wee Herman for QB. Barwis can get him ready to go in no time.

Gravatar FYI, Rivals has a large article up about Dominick Britt and Roy Roundtree in Ann Arbor this weekend. There must be a skinny potion in the water there - Britt is 6'4", 170#, and Roundtree is 6'1", 160.

Moore and Shaw aren't there.

Gravatar Also, the coach of Trotwood Madison made the comment that Moore, Shaw, Britt, and Roundtree have been talking about playing football together in college - he said that he felt that if Michigan can convince two, they'll get all four. Seeing as Shaw has an offer, Moore is a commit, and Britt and Roundtree will soon get offers......

Gravatar Good news then chitown...hopefully they fill out...

Gravatar We can put Britt on the Jay Riemersma/Andy Mignery diet and add 50 lbs to him in no time.

Gravatar You mean the "son, you need to eat a pizza a day" diet?

Gravatar Gitt's gotta be hangin around somewhere, get these guys on his pizza, corn dog, mac, cheese & lard diet.

Gravatar Someone, in the context of Alex Mitchell, brought up a food that was just a stick of butter rolled in sugar. I forget what it was called, though.

Gravatar The Alex Mitchell diet.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m...h? v=mSyo4fGdg1w

Gravatar So the hockey team is winless since Brian wrote about them last week.

Gravatar The one thing I like is that the coaching staff clearly thought he was good enough to throw regularly - even though they had Shaw at RB. He threw for a ton of yards in HS. I get wary when I see Feagin's stats (700 yards?) - if HS coach is afraid to have him throw, what the hell is he going to do in college?
chitownblue 00

* * * * *

Feagin threw for 1420 yards, 19 TDs and 3 INTs this past season.

As far as yardage meaning anything, Troy Smith only threw for 969 yards, 12 TDs his senior year.

Gravatar Totally unrelated, but the Brock Lesnar UFC debut tonight is going to be huge.

Gravatar warning: rant over pet peeve: why give the score of the basketball game giving michigan's score first when they're behind?

give the score with the team that's ahead first, then the other one -- if it's michigan, so be it, we can handle it.

we are not so michigan-centric that we have to have scores given to us with michigan's score first. that's lame. i hate it when newspapers -- usually home town jobs -- do that.

maybe you did it to emphasize how far behind um was in a basketball game -- but that's old news.

am surprised cazzie russell was a gracious as he was for the ceremonies, seeing as how the um has passed him over repeatedly for head coaching vacancies. if i were him, i'd have been a no-show.

saw cazzie play against iu and the van arsdale twins in bloomington in february of '64 or '65 -- double overtime game, um won, 96-95.

and saw first game ever played in crisler arena -- um vs kentucky, adolph rupp's wildcats, with dan issel and louie dampier -- cats won big, but rudy tomjanovich got 30, as i recall.

give john bielein time --he'll get 'em turned around, but it won't be easy, or quick.

Gravatar cazzie was a great player and is a great man, apparently. but he is not a viable D1 HC. if he was, he'd be one by now.

i hear ron johnson is coaching JUCO football out in idaho... perhaps he should be considered for the football HC position too?

Gravatar Wow Kevin Quick is screwed. What a freaking idiot. I know what happened and its not made public yet, but getting dismissed from the team is the least of his worries. He might have to go to jail and I highly doubt he will play for any other college team in the future. It looks like the OHL or bust to me. Kid is absolutely dumb on what he did and 100% betrayed the trust of the team and one of this best friends. Idiot!

Gravatar what did he do?

also, re: harper to oregon

http://rgweb-c.registerguard.c.....says_hes_solid/

makes no sense given our qb situation.

Gravatar ok,

http://rgweb-c.registerguard.com...ays_hes_solid/ #

Gravatar People who claim to be "in the know" about Quick say that being kicked off the team is the least of his worries - that keeping himself out of jail will be a neat trick.

That's all they're willing to say that I've seen. Sounds rather serious - it will come out eventually.

Gravatar Former stars Mike Hart (Syracuse, N.Y./Onondaga Central HS) and Chad Henne (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson HS) of the University of Michigan football team competed in the State Farm College Football All-Star Challenge scheduled to air on ESPN Saturday (Feb. 2) from 4-6 p.m. The record-setting Wolverine duo participated in the 10th annual skills competition taped Jan. 29 at Arizona State's Sun Devil Stadium.

at least there's something on today.

re: quick.... i'd love to know how these student-athletes find the time to get into so much trouble.

Gravatar RE: Britt -

If getting him means additional insurance that Cone will be kept of the field, I'm all in favor of it.
.
Re: Threet - let me second the notion that if you watch his HS tape on Rivals he has some mobility. He's not going to rip off a 70 yard run with 4 jukes but I would be comfortable with him running the read option a few times a game.

Don't sleep on Threet he will be seeing significant playing time this year

Gravatar Why the aversion to releasing the information about Quick? It's going to come to light at some point, why not here and now?

Gravatar - JHS

Unless we get Pryor, I believe that Threet will be starting every single game while Feagin/Britt/ whoever we get will come in for plays off the bench. Also, if we get Pryor I still see Threet starting, al la a more balanced Leak/Tebow combo.

Gravatar That article said Michigan wanted Harper as a receiver. Wow RRod must be confident in his ability to fill the two QB quota.

Gravatar Hart and Henne on espn right now in a college all star challenge thing.

Gravatar @Chris B

"Unless we get Pryor, I believe that Threet will be starting every single game while Feagin/Britt/ whoever we get will come in for plays off the bench. Also, if we get Pryor I still see Threet starting, al la a more balanced Leak/Tebow combo."

I co-sign on your point 100%.

Gravatar Henne came in last on the accuracy challenge... sad.

Gravatar This drill was designed to negate Mike Hart's abilities... he's got no opposition to shout at

Gravatar Wooo Hart in first! How did Henne lose the accuracy challenge? I missed it. Holy shit look at Mendenhall

Gravatar Henne didn't even look like he was trying until his last two passes, but at least Hart won the obstacle course against two guys projected to get drafted before him.

Gravatar Isn't it a requirement for an fOSU kicker to be in a kicking competition?

They should have had The Nuge kick. again.

Gravatar Henne's rockin the skinhead look still. Man, he looks like a tool sometimes with that dragon tat from 8th grade. He threw well enough though - 67 yards

Gravatar Any recruiting updates? I see that scout has something about Fitzgerald.

Gravatar Fitzgerald just had to fly home for some sort of event. Nothing at all interesting.

Gravatar That's the thing about scout/rivals. 90% of it is pretty boring. And the big stuff is all over the blogs in 10 minutes anyway.

Gravatar No information about him staying?

Gravatar Said they're not worried about him. Nothing specific.

Gravatar Thanks

Gravatar This competition is stupid, Hart would've taken first instead of second in the last event had they penalized Mendenhall for dropping two passes.

Gravatar Oh another round...

Gravatar Ahahaha listen to Hart yell at the announcer/ref

"You're crazy!"

Gravatar Poll: Who would be the absolute worst halftime act at the Super Bowl?

My vote - Limp Bizkit.

Tom Petty will be a great show though.

Gravatar ...and Hart wins despite being penalized

Gravatar Am I losing it or did Brian not post anything related to our BBALL loss last weekend to Sparty? I just found out about it today since MGOBLOG is my only sports source these days.

Gravatar Hart won 2/3 events and placed second in the other... impressive for the little blue monster.

Gravatar Poll: Who would be the absolute worst halftime act at the Super Bowl?

The Sex Pistols

Gravatar Bigger Douche-nozzle: Mark May or Drew Sharp? Discuss....

Gravatar RE: Harper

FWIW the info from Oregon may be fresh, but the Michigan interest in Harper as a receiver is Pre-RR.

RR offered him as a QB.

Gravatar With the Sex Pistols comment are you going strictly off of personal hatred? Or off of the heaping mountain of FCC regulations violations that would surely come from their performance.

Or that they'd have to put Sid Vicious' corpse on stage?

Gravatar Paul, the answer to your question is Trev Alberts. Anyone who calls themself "Trevvy" needs to be cast in iron and thrown over one of those crab boats in Most Dangerous Catch.

Gravatar Re: Sex Pistols

All three.

My older sister got the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix when she was in high school. I got The Sex Pistols, the BeeGees, and KC and the Sunshine Band.

I've never really gotten over it.

Gravatar Tenn

Yeah, but you got The Clash, that fact alone should make up for any feelings of remorse.

Gravatar MR:

Not to a blues and soul fan.

Gravatar If you're a blues and soul fan then the last 25 years have been hardship central. At least Zeppelin got more bluesy down the stretch.

Gravatar Hence my depression over the arrival of punk and disco.

Gravatar anyone wants to talk Zeppelin, i'm in. i recently "rediscovered" their music, and it truly is amazing. i almost wish i hadn't started listening to them again - they've ruined most current music for me. nothing compares. to me at least. feel free to disagree.

Gravatar It's amusing that my son's friends seem to think the only bands that existed back in the '60s and '70s were Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. They're trying anyway.

One of the most horrifying experiences of my life was listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers trying to play old blues and soul stuff. Dear lord.

Gravatar Thought this was a pretty interesting read, posted by a buckeye fan on the Sporting News website,

http://www.sportingnews.com/blog.../gymrome/ 133479

Gravatar Would it be that bad a thing if I put on a Penn State shirt, then took pictures around State College with signs like "Hey Pryor, I know you aren't coming here. You're a Douche." ?

Gravatar well TennBlue, if they think there were only those 2 bands, they've at least picked about the best there was to offer, IMO. Floyd is certainly arguable, but i don't see how anyone can not think Zeppelin is as good as it gets.

Gravatar Led Zep was so incredible in it's heyday that I dread the thought of a reunion tour...

Gravatar I'm not dissing Zeppelin, it's just such a narrow slice of the music of the era. I've got about 3000 songs in my library, 10 of which are Zeppelin.

Gravatar So in that sportingnews post, when the hell did we have cheerleaders wear the blue version of the maize out jerseys and why the hell did they stop? those looked damn good. (first video, about half way through)

Gravatar The Clash are amazing. Whether you like punk or you don't, anyone who listens to them will love their sound.

"It ain't coca-cola, it's rice."

Gravatar One of The Garg's better front pages was a parody of their album, which they titled "Get The Clap".

I own the album, but their music never did much for me. *shrug*

Gravatar Yay. 1-0 Michigan.

Gravatar zeppelin is a as shit as our basketball team

which is almost as bad as those dorks with buckets on their heads in the maize rage.

fucking tools.

the worst thing about amaker might have been the way the basketball program morphed into a bunch of duke wannabes.

filling the team with wimps and the crowd with "witty" organized chanting doesnt make you a good basketball program. it makes you a bunch of losers.

remember when our basketball program had some balls?

Gravatar I guess that's why they have such a hard time practicing.

2-1 Michigan after one.

Gravatar @formerly 7:04
The women in blue were not the cheerleaders, they were the "dance team", a development of about three years ago.

Gravatar Anyone know the circumstances surrounding Quick getting booted from the hockey team?

Gravatar The people that know aren't telling.

Apparently something serious, with legal overtones.

Gravatar @TennBlue

bah.

Gravatar I remember reading something along the lines of "getting kicked off the hockey team should be the last thing he's worried about right now"

Gravatar Damn, this hockey game is wild. 4-3 M, with constant back and forth rushes. Penalties all over the place.

Gravatar I'm trying to watch the game online but it just keeps taking me to highlights of yesterday's game - is anyone successfully watching online?

Gravatar I got the same thing. I'm just using audio.

Gravatar When was TP's basketball game? I wanna see what happened when the ve$t met Rod face to face for the first time and if they took all the attention from TP.

Gravatar I bet they had a "you got served" style dance-off

Gravatar Whats the score of the hockey game - are we still ahead?

Gravatar I mis-typed above. It's 3-2 after 2. 3rd period about to start.

Gravatar R2 is most likely visiting with TP right now, his visit was to be after his game which started at 7:30..ill post all updates

Gravatar thanks!

Gravatar Orlando - so are Britt and Roundtree also visiting this weekend?

Gravatar both are there..and both most likely if offered will commit on the spot

Gravatar Sounds like NMU scored - 3-3 tie now.

Gravatar Can someone post a quick update on who's in AA right now? Pos, offers, committs?

Gravatar Hey, as someone astutely pointed out, they get to meet with T-P tonight, then can go back and see what to do with Britt as far as offering him goes. IMO he'd commit on the spot if offered. He decommitted from Cinci 6 weeks ago when Demetrius Jones transferred there from ND ... and he cancelled another visit this weekend to go to U-M ... so he's primed ...

One thing to remember ... U-M took a pass on him a couple weeks ago ... now was the no-test-score a factor in that "thanks-but-no-thanks"? We'll have to see. A kid cannot take official visits without a test score recorded (no matter what the score). The score just came in less than 2 weeks ago -- and it was a 25.

Roy Roundtree. He's a Purdue commit of course, a Memorial Day commit there. But his mom has come along on this visit with him ... a serious sign ... and she likes U-M ...

IMO once again an offer-extended could mean a commit.

The DJ-Woods uh uh may come back to help U-M here ...

Gravatar I'm guessing RR will offer them - probably the only way we get to the 25 commits he wants, IMO can never have too many qbs and wrs in a spread system.

Gravatar i cant find the list of visitors but half of it is already commited..and for the other undecided are a bunch of guys from florida..most of them are long shots, although feagin is there and it looks good with him

Gravatar msu got their first commit for 09..a 1* LB...go little bro

Gravatar MORE TP UPDATES

I feel like a crack addict

Gravatar like i said ill give you tp updates as soon as they are posted..probably wont be for a couple hours..

Gravatar Last week DJ Woods was on the sports talk radio station I listen to - he sounded like a good kid, I wish him luck at Cinci, my guess is he wanted to be the guy at Cinci rather than try to be the man at UM.

Gravatar Whatever happened to Toledo Man... did they shut down his subscriptions? Thanks Orlando for the updates!!

Gravatar JHS,

With 18 commitments now (we took C-Wilson off the list ... just being honest .. nothing against Christian in fact I personally think he's a fantastic young man {met him both at Army Combine and U-M Camp week ...} and IMO he will be an excellent college player ... just not new-U-M) ...

k ... moving on ... getting to 25 looks like it could be fairly easy now IMO:

19. Terrence Robinson
20-22. Trotwood kids (if U-M decides to pull the trigger today) ... Britt, Roundtree, Shaw

23. Perry

24. Feagin

25 ... several possibilities ... Omameh, Odoma, McCalebb, Barnum, even Harper maybe, etc.

so it's easy ...

My point being -- adding Britt/Roundtree into the mix, if they get offered, makes 25 doable ... because one would assume it'd help a lot with Shaw as well.

also:
... hesitation on Roundtree could be if they think there's goon news coming on Odoms ... or if they decide to go with McCalebb.
... Ditto on hesitation with Britt as far as T-P/Feagin go.

-- Omameh sort is a wild-card factor in this, isn't he, but helps to get to the 25 ... and helps the assertion that getting to 25 shouldn't be hard. I just assume Barnum is a longieshot.

Gravatar Christian Wilson seems like a good kid, but I think it is probably in his best interest that he goes elsewhere, my bet is he ends up at BC. Maybe UNC cuz Butch Davis is a good recruiter.

Gravatar word is the vest met with TP earlier in the afternoon..so R2 and the 7 assistants will leave the last impression

Gravatar Geez. 3-3. Third straight OT game.

Gravatar Re: DJ Woods

Brian Kelly is one hell of a recruiter. He is confident and a salesman. His offense loves receivers too, so it's probably a great fit. Too bad for him BK is gone very soon.

Gravatar I hate the sweater vest. I detest that man.

If Pryor out of the blue went to Oregon I'd be happy with that, I just don't want to see him at OSU. I could deal with him at PSU - provided we keep owning PSU every year.

Gravatar I just keep thinking of something I read on one of these threads... the only thing as good as having TP would be having TP at OSU and beat them 4 straight years with him.

Gravatar what some buckstache posted about TP:

100% tOSU if he wants to play for the better program and for NC's

100% UM if he wants to avoid competing for a job and settle for 2nd and 3rd place for the next 4 years, but have the job handed to him day 1.

my hatrid for them cannot be measured

Gravatar Orlando - just be lucky you don't have to hear the Bucknuts on your sports talk station - their take is that TP hates losing and that if he goes to UM he is going to lose, and he won't be ready for the NFL, so just come to OSU because they prepare QBS for the NFL.

Gravatar Emphasis on PLAY for the national championship. Win it? Not so much. Let's leave beating the SEC for Michigan...

Gravatar Better prepare QBs for the NFL? Wow, they are nuts...

Gravatar TP updates

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/re...? playerId=45002

I do not understand that how come ESPN keep saying TP will go to Michigan...

Gravatar No matter which of the two he choses... man is he gonna get the hell knocked out of him when they play each other.

Gravatar @Anon - I second your confusion as to why ESPN is thinking he's going to UM when everyone else thinks he is going to OSU.

Hockey game over 3-3 tie (again).

Gravatar ESPN is almost always wrong with their "inside scoops" of course they are saying Michigan, they have a reputation to uphold.

Gravatar @ Anonymous

Maybe because he has every good reason to go here? What reason does he have to go to OSU? His friends? He has family attending(and graduated from) UofM

Gravatar JHS, trust me man i know how it is, i moved here from centerville ohio..home of aj hawk, mike nugent, and herbie...it was literally like living in hell. i love how these people give their thoughts on TP as if they have credibility..seriously the buckstaches make me sick

Gravatar Penn State up by 3 over MSU for those that care

Gravatar as far as "everyone else" thinking hes going to OSU, from what I've seen most "expert picks" are split right down the middle, while most fan polls favor Michigan... but i suppose that just may be SEC fans doing anything to piss off OSU fans.

Gravatar From everything I've heard of Dominic Britt...he is absolutely terrible. The fact that you have Brandon Moore, Shaw, and Roundtree and didn't even do that great is telling. Good to know we're completely desperate at the QB position, otherwise I'd be sick of we really offered him. (I'm sure he's a good kid, I'm talking about his QB skills, which are pretty bad).

Gravatar Buckstaches and the love for Buckstaches is disgusting - I was listening to Bucknuts explain why OSU is the right fit (for TP) and why he will be a bust with no nfl future if he goes to OSU, I was so disgusted I didn't know if I wanted to puke or to break something.

Gravatar IMO, the way we are going after harper even though he is already commited and now britt kinda makes us seem desperate and maybe RR knows something...

Gravatar @Anon - well if you had a choice between Cone and Britt - who would you take?

Gimme Britt even though I have never seen him play, there is a reason why Lloyd gave walk-on Sheriden as much garbage time as Cone.

Gravatar If we were so desperate why would we drop Daniels so fast?

Gravatar tom said britt has a solid arm and decent mobility..and suprisingly good accuracy especially on the deep ball. i believe he runs a 4.6

Gravatar As a Junior Britt threw for 2,889 yards and 21 touchdowns to go with 1,046 yards and 9 touchdowns rushing.

Seem like pretty good numbers to me

Gravatar daniels wanted some cash money thats why we dropped him

Gravatar "daniels wanted some cash money thats why we dropped him"

I have yet to see any solid proof of this.

Gravatar I'm just relaying back what people have told me about Britt who have seen him play all season long.

Cone and Britt - Tossup. Cone apparently isn't very good but has been around for a while, but Britt is more raw and apparently isn't very good.

Gravatar apparently bj daniels high school has a reputation for this and tom said that the rep was true..which is why we dropped him

Gravatar JHS, I've got you beat. I just moved to Columbus, I drive past the shoe to work everyday. When I was here for my interview a couple weeks ago, the radio was saying that OSU can make him a NFL QB better than UM. They actually said, and read this correctly, "running qb's dont do well in the draft, like Troy Smith, we'll show him how to become a NFL ready qb".

Gravatar I would prefer Steven Threet over Britt and any other similar very skinny athletic black quarterbacks who are poor throwers. Threet looked very solid in his HS highlight clips and he even ran a few option plays- showed some nice athleticism.

The only minus are the earring, he looks like he belongs on the Brew Crew

Gravatar its odd that everyone in columbus and mich. think tp is going to osu, but i work in the pittsburgh area and the press there is convinced he is going to mich.....hope THEY know somthing.....btw talk on the scout board is that feagin may get offered and committ this week end....any thoughts ????

Gravatar I hate the spread option, can't we just do a wishbone or something? :p

Gravatar Say we took Britt and he is garbage. Gotta like what RR has done with less in WV.

Gravatar To be fair, I don't think it was T.S.'s passing that kept him so low in the draft...the kid is a midget and had a really bad bowl game. Generally speaking, he was pretty good at avoiding turnovers and was a good passer by the time he left. Combine that with the fact that he's not a typical dropback passer and worked (iirc) in the shotgun a lot of his career, and you got a late rounder.

Gravatar I was reading about Perrilloux's recruitung story. The reason that he choose LSU over Texas was he can start from Freshman.

Hopefully the same thing happens to us.

Gravatar geevee - good point, but as lame as this excuse sounds...that was the Big East. I know PW did generally very well in bowl games against top competition, can a similar QB withstand an entire season in the B10? Feel free to refute this point.

Gravatar steven threet......skiny UNathletic WHITE quarterback who is a poor thrower !! ??????

Gravatar wait, who says Threet is a poor thrower? If he is a poor thrower AND not mobile, how was he a ****?

Gravatar who said Threet was skinny or a poor thrower?

Gravatar I think Threet should be the full time starter to begin the '08 season (unless someone else is just unbelievable during summer practices). Whoever is the 2nd string athletic QB should be give 10-15 snaps a game out of a simplied play book (screens, options etc).

@geevee I pity you - I'd gag if I had to see the Horseshoe every day on my work commute. Luckily by me (cleveland-akron area) people are bigger browns/tribe/lebron honks then they are Buckeyes honks. But don't get me wrong they love the Bucks, but I'd say the Browns are number 1.

Gravatar and wait a minute, who says that being a white QB is bad? Let's not get race into this, Maizerulz...

Gravatar someone said going after all these qbs was desperatae, and we are talking about threet running the spread option......THATS DESPERATE !!!!

Gravatar we have to remember that threet has not thrown a college pass..and to say you would rather have threet over TP or any of the other guys doesnt make sense..yes he has been in the system longer than these guys but as far as actual game expierence they all have the same..which is none

Gravatar he's actually huge...6'5" almost 230 now.

Gravatar Let's also remember that if Threet is the QB it will be more of a spread than an option. RR has to work with what he has until he gets his ideal people in.

Gravatar http://mgoblue.com/football/play...o.aspx? id=69042

plus he doesn't wear those stupid earrings anymore.

Gravatar Maizerulz is probably a troll, let's not worry about it.

Gravatar PSU just knocked off MSU

Gravatar Yeah but Orlando Threet has had significantly more time out of HS. I'm implying here that he has had much better coaching for a longer period of time (that's if college coaches are always superior to HS... and I'm not sure if Reggie Ball's QB coach can be an improvement over a good HS coach.). He's more physically mature, stronger, and knows the system better than an incoming frosh. Don't forget he was also an Elite 11 ****

If he is the starter (I'd bet my salary on it), we'll see a passing-based spread perhaps with the occasional option-read play thrown in.

Gravatar http://footballrecruiting.rivals...ect& vidid=65134

3 free Threet videos if anyone feels like watching...you still need a rivals account (but not a subscription).

Gravatar M-Flight,

good points, im not doubting his skills and strength that all..im just simply implying that he has as much game ex. as the freshman that are coming in. i also agree with you that he will be the starter although i dont see why everyone is jumping on the threet ship..you never know what RR can do with a feagin during the summer (not saying he will be amazing by any means) but maybe he will grasp the RR system quick

Gravatar @Flight sci I co-sign on your last post.

@Orlando - I think people are jumping on the Threet bandwagon because most are assuming he is going to be the starter and we want to get behind and support the kid.

Any new info on the Scout front?

Gravatar Orlando you hit the nail on the head w/ the last line...it's about who will grasp the system the fastest and most efficiently. Who knows what will happen for the rest of the season, but I guess I'd put money on Threet understanding what RR's trying to do more than the others by the start of the season. I'd find it hard to believe any guy who is currently there being beat out by Utah by a guy coming in during the summer.

Threet has the advantage of spring, playing against college scout teams and being coached by college coaches for over a year. If he doesn't understand the concepts by then, he probably doesn't deserve the position. I'm optimistic just because of his reported accuracy and experience w/ RR. Therefore consider me on the Threet ship out of simple rational thought...he just makes sense.

Gravatar Not to mention he gets an entire winter and spring w/ Barwis. That probably won't help him as much as it'll help lineman and other more athletically challenging positions, but I'd say his conditioning level won't be questioned.

Gravatar Orlando,

I think people are jumping on the Threet bandwagon because 1) He would have gotten a Michigan offer had we not gotten Mallett, 2) He was a 4** Elite 11 QB, 3) Cone extremely sucks, so there's no way in Hell we'd want him on the field. He's a 4 year clip holding QB lol

Threet has practiced with the team the entire season this year and even though they are bringing into a totally new scheme and philosophy, you can't take away the fact that he has been practicing with the team already. Add this year's spring and summer ball to that as well as 9 months working with Barwis and I see Threet being the #1 QB next year.

I also posted this earlier, but I'll just say it again in better detail-

According to CBS, teams average about 60 plays a game on offense. If we get any of the Britt/Feagin/Pryor, I imagine we'll run a good 50 plays or so with Threet of the passing oriented spread offense. By that I mean the QB won't run, but we'll still have plenty of HB zone reads and fly sweeps and such. The other 10 plays or so would be 'Tebow Time' so to speak. Plays where the other QB (Britt/Feagin/Pryor) came in to run some zone reads, trick plays, and other ideas that RR has.

Gravatar No one's really talking about him visiting and it sounds like his grades might be an issue but I really like the film of this McCalebb guy over at rivals. His ceiling in this offense would be that of a Slaton I think...

Gravatar okay now i seem anti-threet which is not the case at all. JHS i absolutley back him 100% if he is the starter in august then im all for it. but we're pretty much giving up on everyone else we might get (feagin/harper/britt/TP) just because they are 2 and 3* and the film doesnt look real good, who is to say that RR wont transform them quickly..i guess im just saying we should be open and not bank on threet

Gravatar Orlando - I didn't get that vibe from you at all. I understand your point and I agree with it in general. However, as fans, we can easily "bank" on Threet b/c we're not actually making the decisions. Because it seems to be the most logical out of all of our options, why not envision a future 2008 offense w/ Threet at the helm? Judging from that players' quote from a while back, seems like the existing teammates are behind him. He gets time to work with all of the receivers wrt timing and accuracy, including Stonum who is already enrolled. I know I'm not giving up on everyone else...frankly, you can't give up on guys that haven't even committed here.

Gravatar My bad if I made you seem anti-Threet Orlando, but I think Threet's being handed it by default RIGHT NOW. Just because his only competition is Cone. Say the QBs report to Michigan on June 26 (Just using this date because that's when my cousin has to recruit to Louisville), they'll only have 2 months to lift with Barwis, get accustomed to college speed, to their team, and master the playbook. Threet will already have had a year and a half (including GT) of college lifting, and working with his team so he'll understandably have the edge to start on the first day. I don't how we'll look at QB at the end of the season but I'm betting that if we don't get Pryor, Threet will start the opener vs Utah.

Gravatar Plus I think game experience is a little overrated. College practice experience isn't.

Gravatar Orlando - I don't think you came of as anti-Threet at all.

I think most people are getting behind Threet because he is all we have right now. If TP comes I'd guess most people would totally forget about Threet and be drooling over TP running the bread.

I wonder if Daniels saw that RR parody car commercial and said to the staff "Show me the bread and I'll run the spread"?

Gravatar i guess im taking the point of view from if we land all these qb's which is purely speculation. if we end with threet, fantastic im pumped..but if we land a couple solid spread guys id like to think the starting job is open especially since those guys would cater to an RR offense better than threet would. im not trying to argue with you guys, just trying to give my $0.02

Gravatar also regardless if he has had all the conditioning etc.. if a guy is a perfect fit for RR's offense i think that works better than any conditioning and prep. that threet has had

Gravatar Let's just all agree that Threet will be decent-good if we have to go with him, but we'd like more options.

Gravatar lol fair enough

Gravatar i dont know if anyone was watching BTN but they just had a piece on Pryor. they said that OSU was in the because its closer to his father who he wants to be at every game.

Gravatar Orlando - any new stuff on scout regarding RR's visit.

I wonder what the Vest had to $ay to him.

In the end my guess is that money talks...

Gravatar http://picasaweb.google.com/kubo...4/ HawksVsEA2208

Pics of tonight's BBall game in Jeanette, PA.

Gravatar JHS, nothing yet, will keep you posted as long as i can stay awake

Gravatar A guy on the Scout free site is saying Terrelle's mom was wearing all Michigan apparel. Hope it's a good sign!

Gravatar I noticed Cameron Saddler and I'd assume (SHayne Hayle)were at the game, are they going to Pitt?

Gravatar i see one pic with RR, freddy jack and calvin magee..

Gravatar tony gibson too

Gravatar How about the photo with Terelle's Dad and the whole UM posse in the rows behind him?

Gravatar i love the pic of RR talking to the vest

Gravatar which one?

Gravatar I bet that RR had a great time talking to the vest, I'm sure that just made his day.

Gravatar I'd love to see RR's big, meaty hands around Vest's geeky little neck...

Gravatar http://picasaweb.google.com/ kubo...583492530927954

Here is the RR/vest pic.

Gravatar http://picasaweb.google.com/ kubo...583492530927954

Gravatar ah my bad JHS

Gravatar ooooooooooo

mmmmmmm

Gravatar who feels naughty tonight

Gravatar no

Gravatar tennblue, nice pull on those pics by the way..

Gravatar Not mine, obviously. Found the link on the Scout free page.

Gravatar By the way, others are saying Mom was wearing Steelers black and gold, not blue and gold. Oh, well.

Gravatar Blue and Gold? THIS IS NOT NOTRE DAME TYVM

Gravatar crickets

Gravatar She wasn't wearing Maize and Blue, either.

Gravatar Neither was she wearing Honolulu Blue and Silver.

Gravatar No rivals/scout news?

Oh wait, it's Saturday night and I'm laying low and being a loser, unlike the rest of the world.

Gravatar Vick's dogs are rescued. oooh boy. So they went from a life of being fighters to a life of being castrated or euthenized. But hey, at least they're not providing entertainment or business for anyone.

Gravatar For people who wanted it, the people who visited this weekend are:

Ricky Barnum, OL - Florida Commit
Dominick Britt, QB - No offer before Weekend.
Kenny Demens, LB - UM Commit
Just Feagin, QB/ATH - No offer before weekend.
JB Fitzgerald, LB - UM Commit
Rocko Khoury, OL - UM Commit
Onterrio McCalebb, WR - UM Offer.
Elliott Mealer, OL - UM Commit
Martavious Odoms, WR - UM Offer
Dann O'Neill, OT - UM Commit
Roy Roundtree, WR - Purdue Commit (but UM will likely offer this weekend, it seems)
Kurt Wemers, OL - UM Commit

Gravatar thanks chi

Gravatar I guess TP isn't as insistent on running a spread anymore. Says "Any offensive system where I can get some good numbers that can help me get in the NFL."

http://www.philly.com/dailynews/ ...ball_plans.html

Gravatar from wtka...

a guy calls up who i think is jim stepnowski. anyway, he doesn't know where pryor goes, but says the real test for RR is next years QB class (09). he thinks there's 2 big time guys (5* i guess) and 2-3 others (top100 maybe) whom RR will be going after.

one kid is more of a passer from tampa, FL. the other is the kid from Cy-something TEx (more of a runner, yea same area as mcguffie). the key will be if the Tex kid accepts a UT offer on the 10th at the UT JR weekend. Beaver says they brought up the FL OL this weekend to get an 'in' w/ the HS of the 09FL kid (same HS obvs). also says there another forcier from Cal who could be an option.

i think the point is, there's life after RoJ--- i mean TP.

Gravatar wow, butchered that name.... stepnowski == stefani

http://jimstefani.blogspot.com/

Gravatar If Threet, who has 4 years of eligibility left, is the full time starter this year, which appears likely--won't that impede our ability to get a top QB in the class of '09? How could it not?

Who wants to sit behind Threet for 3 years? If Threet has a full year of starting next year under his belt, what are the chances he gets supplanted as the starter in '09 by a dual threat guy who is is more of a fit for RR's system--not very good.

I think our chances of landing a top QB will be better two years from now.

Maybe someone else has a different take, but I think we may well be stuck with Threet as the starter for 4 years.

Gravatar I'd agree w/ Murl that if we don't get Pryor this year, that makes Threet the presumptive starter for 4 years - I'm not sure why someone would come in to caddy for 3 years (though Henne came in to, presumptively, caddy for Guttierez for 3 years). Getting or not getting Pryor doesn't help us get a QB next year, if Threet plays alright.

Gravatar Murl,
R2 seems like the kind of guy that would leave all positions up to competition. The best guy gets the start. Hell even under Carr, Tom Brady shared time with Henson.

Gravatar @ chi

and Fitzgerald's visit this weekend was "unofficial", he blew in on Thurs and exited on Sat, just trying to come to grips is he fits RR's system, right?

if the whole coaching staff was at Pryor's game Sat night, who was working these recruits this weekend?

Gravatar if Threet plays alright.

big if.

but if these guys are 5* type guys in 09, then they won't be too worried about one guy ahead of them. TP isn't sweating Henton in Cowbus. henson wasn't sweating brady. either way, the depth chart is not deep in 09. if we do get TP, or even if we don't...coner may xfer anyway... unless he wants to be a sheridan guy who just wants a coaching internship for 4 years.

either way, the bigger test is 09...if RR gets a big time QB in 09 on the way to a top5 class, we'll know what level of recruiter he is. i think the fact that TP is deferring his commit date says a lot.

Gravatar Just b/c Threet will be the starting QB doesn't mean we won't be able to recruit at the position anymore. Plenty of guys will give us a real good look, especially the dual threat QB's. DanK is right, especially when your a confident 4*, 5* you won't sweat a guy ahead of you. And I don't think we should assume Threet will be a starting QB for 4 years.

Gravatar new TP article- not much info.

Gravatar If this kid in TX has a chance to go play there, where McCoy will be a Senior during his freshman year, and there are no feasible options other than him, why would he come here to get in a slap-fight with Pryor for 3 years?

Why do think Texas replaced Young with a freshman? It wasn't because Texas can't recruit - it's because for 2 entire classes, no one wanted to go there to get blocked by VY.

Gravatar And obviouly, if Threet is bad to mediocre, he's vulnerable, because there's the "well he's not a great fit for this offense" factor involved.

Gravatar So Rod and the vest didn't have a dance-off?

damn...

Gravatar Just for comparison sake, because if we were to get Pryor, the situation would be somewhat similar to Texas getting Young.

Young replaced a 3-year starter (Chris Simms), and came into a situation with no real veteran to play. He was the #1 ranked recruit in the nation, according to Scout and Rivals. He started 4 years, obviously. Texas's QB recruiting in his year, and the ensuing 4 was as follows:

2002 - Young was the only QB in his class.

2003 - No QB recruits.

2004 - No QB recruits.

2005 - *** QB Colt McCoy - who redshirted.

2006 - *** QB Sherrod Harris, **** QB Jevan Snead, **** ATH John Chiles, who became a QB.

It's worth noting that, when Snead lost out to McCoy for the starting QB job as a true freshman, he transferred to Ole Miss.

So, they got Young, and couldn't recruit a QB for the following 2 seasons. When they did get one, it was an after-thought *** local kid. Now, admittedly, that after-thought turned into a good player (McCoy), but no D-I school out of the state of Texas even recruited him.

Gravatar Anyone have info/reactions from yesterdays visitors in A2?

Gravatar good point chitown but that doesn't always hold true. look at USC. their QB depth chart is all 4 & 5* players. They just added Matt Barkley who is the #1 overall player for 2009..and their are a couple of guys in front of him right now.

Gravatar Guys at USC get a paycheck though, so they don't mind riding the pine.

Gravatar USC has the lovely, sweater-wearing Song Girls; that is an enormous recruiting advantage.

Gravatar USC has the Song Girls and we have "Michigan Hot." I could see where going to USC would be more of an allure. But if I was a top prospect I'd steer clear of USC simply because I'd like to play sometime in my career. It'd be nice to be the stud recruit who goes to a UNC or a Wash. St. and has a great career.

Gravatar Anyone with a Rivals account read up on the basketball recruit that Beilein is after? It's on the front page.

I know it's football recruiting time, but if this kid is someone who could potentially come in and do good things for our terrible bball team next year that'd be great.

Gravatar Surely there must be a JUCO QB we can get if we flame out on a decent one on signing day.

Kansas State, for years, lived off those dudes...Jonathan Beasley, Michael Bishop, etc...there must be someone we can bring in to compete.

Gravatar "who was working these recruits this weekend?"

Barwis had them running till they puked in the buckets, then they all went out for a nice steak dinner.

Gravatar feagin committed according to varsity blue

Gravatar Scout has something new about Chris Harper. Anyone have an account and willing to share?

Gravatar I don't see anything on Harper. But they do have Feagin as committed.

Gravatar I read the Harper thing at Oregons Scout site. I think he recomitted to the Ducks. I guess its good news on Feagin.

Gravatar I gotcha. Here's the gist of it;

"So here on a nice calm Sunday morning is the word, directly from Harper, who sent an unsolicited message to eDuck via MySpace.com:

"I HAVE NO INTEREST IN MICHIGAN.... PLEASE TELL EVERYONE THAT (LOL) THANK YOU... ITS A DONE DEAL... I'M A DUCK!!!"

Pretty definitive, I'd say.

Gravatar Now if we get Becker, we can use the Steely Dan offense.

Gravatar Thanks mgobleu. I would have rather had him but we need a body(most likely a back up).

Gravatar Wish we could "frankenstein" Threet's arm on him. Seems like he runs pretty well, but he's gonna need some work.

Gravatar @Tenn:

Hey, was Feagin commit Nineteen?

(also, LOL)

Gravatar Hey, 19? That's 'retha Franklin.

Gravatar Once Feagin committed, we dropped Harper
