Gravatar first?

Gravatar OMG did you guys see that tall d-linemen almost run down Sam McG? I wish we would have gotten that guy too!

Gravatar somebody was telling me mcguff was a big shit talker but from this video he seams pretty soft spoken.

Gravatar mcguffie's stadium looks nicer than half the the MAC ones.

Gravatar Whats with #27's left leg? He's the guy bending over on the far left side of the photo. It looks like his left leg is way skinnier than his right leg.

Gravatar There was totally a hold on one of those McGuffie runs.

That MICHSTATE vid wuz so totally awesome, wuz up state, rah rah, sparty rulz.

How many days left, Hoyer?

Gravatar Dammit I would have been all over undegrad walk on try outs, if only this had happened two years ago.

Of course, Barwis would probably frown upon my pot smoking.

Gravatar There are some great quotes from the coaches in those two Daily articles. A fave is:

"(Spring practice) is completely different," linebackers coach Jay Hopson said. "(The tryout) is all about athleticism. Come spring practices, we find out who wants to hit somebody. And that's what it's all about."

HIT SOMEBODY FOOL!

Gravatar On the downside, these tryouts are going to spawn a whole new class of frat bar trash that is 40 pounds fatter than their HS playing days, floating around Skeepers and telling people how they "almost" made the cut and Coach Rod was real impressed with their speed.

Gravatar I posted this on the last comments, after BGH made me waste hours looking at FAIL pics, but it seems apropos to walk-on tryouts:

http:// failblog.files.wordpress....sketballkid.jpg

if only that was a football flying at fatty's face:(

Gravatar dex---2 years ago i would've skipped my classes for the day (long weekend?) to check it out and participate. however, i think both my lungs & liver would've collapsed though.

Gravatar hahaha i can see alot of the frat guys playing that card. but with good reason..alot of 'innocent' ladies would've bit on it.

Gravatar that guy "caleb" that he talks about that might get a spring training spot...he was on my flag football team my freshman year. caleb white is his name. fast as hell. we won the championship.

Gravatar That State video made me look around the office, even though I'm the only one in it, and feel really really uncomfortable.

Gravatar on a side note that MSU video is hilarious. I like our rivalry with them a lot because it isn't as vicious and nasty as say, tOSU, ND, and now WVU, and perhaps Bama. We don't hate them, we don't pity them (much), we just sort of laugh when they make any type of attempt to take pride in their school and suggest they are better than us, in anything. they really are a little brother to us.

Gravatar MichGuy, are you talking about that first touchdown in the McGuffie video? I noticed that. I kept waiting for him to pull away from the guy because he was a lineman but the guy almost caught him! That guy would be nice to have on our team..

Gravatar They're better in men's basketball. That's undeniable, despite the current awe inspiring two game winning streak.

Gravatar @beantown

Yes, I would have had to be airlifted from the facility about half way through I imagine.

And I agree about the Sparty rivalry. I had a ton of friends who went to MSU, and it's always been a good natured thing between us. We'd always hang out during the game weekend and go out drinking and bust each others balls and not deal with the ridiculous over the top anger you get in the OSU one. But there is nothing more annoying to me than being at the bar around town now and hearing people who didn't attend either school almost getting into fist fights over something Mike Hart said. Pathetic.

Gravatar I want that #49 (i think?) from the Sam video on our team! I don't care if he's a little short to be a lineman, he almost ran down Mcguff!

Gravatar Nice Bloom County reference.

Gravatar dex--and i'd say MSU weekend is without a doubt the best for gameday tailgating. tOSU, wisco, are good but whether it is home or away with MSU the tailgates are MASSIVE since everyone knows each other. but yeah..after been to East Lansing numerous times and then going down to tOSU..its completely different. EL is fun, Columbus is hate.

Gravatar MSU/UM tailgates were definitely the best. Both sides had their asshole contingents out for blood but nowhere near like OSU weekends.

In my experience, Notre Dame fans were the most annoying because at least with OSU fans they can hurl insults with the best of them. ND fans were just boring.

Gravatar Hey Bri watch for the math and typos Mcguffie 6 td?? That would be 5. It's small, but with Tide Fan trolling you got to be tight dude.

Gravatar Hamm. were you on "Cowboy up" or "For the love of the Game" in Fall Flag Football??

Gravatar Brian

In the same post, you made a reference to "EECS 380" AND Steve Dallas from Bloom County. Well done sir. Well done.

Gravatar Unverified voracity = what?

maybe im an idiot, but someone lay it out there for me.

Gravatar confused,

Read the mgo FAQ on the side bar. It'll explain everything.

Gravatar I noticed that guy almost run down McGuffie too. Worries me a little about his on the field speed but I'm sure he'll be fine.

Gravatar Someone said we have a rivalry with Alabama?

Gravatar ND fans are lame. They just don't bring anything to the table.

Gravatar Jim, have you seen the McGuffie Mix Tape? Because that video is a 5-minute explication of just how outrageously fast McGuffie is -- in the open field, between the tackles, whatever. He can fly.

Gravatar Go back to your crow eating, chitown.

Gravatar I'm not sure why I was eating crow, but it was OK.

Gravatar If you want me to, I can warm that crow up for you in the microwave.

Gravatar Are people really debating McGuffie's speed over one highlight where he probably let off the throttle a little on a break away. Seriously, that's worse than the: OMG I don't want Pryor cause he didn't declare on NSD.

Gravatar why did brian change the way articles were listed out on mgo.licio.us? i liked the old way...

Gravatar I think the mgo.licio.us is a glitch today.

Gravatar I actually agree with everyone beginning to question McG's speed. His highlight reel is amazing but we've heard all year how he never plays good competition. His first playoff game and a d-lineman almost runs him down?? And then his team loses the next game?? I don't know, it might not be that big of a deal but I can understand the doubt that the video just posted raises.

Gravatar Can we just start up "The Legend of Caleb White" right now? He'll be like a Michigan football version of Prester John or the Templar treasure.

"When Caleb White finally dons the maize n' blue, the rivers will run red with blood, OSU fans will be afflicted with (even more) boils, and Touchdown Jesus shall be rent in two."

(Apologies in advance for the anti-Catholic sentiment in that sentence.)

Gravatar @ original-
no, our team name was "en fuego en mojo"

pretty straight, i know.

also, he had a friend on the team that was almost as fast and 40 pounds heavier. wouldn't be surprised if he got a chance too.

Gravatar You were eating crow for pointing out facts. Facts = wrong. Go with your gut.

Gravatar FState,
I know what you're saying, but no one is "questioning his speed". Just his on field speed. He obviously has shown in the combines that he clocks well, speed wise.

Gravatar but we've heard all year how he never plays good competition.

Sam McGuffie plays in Division 5A, the biggest one, in Texas, the state that produces some of the best high school football in the country. Nobody has ever said that about him.

Gravatar after the 1 clip let's save ourselves the debate of McGuffie's 'on field' speed.

Gravatar lay off mcguffie everyone- he was injured a lot this past season. we of all fans should know how injury impacts performance...

Gravatar His highlight reel is amazing but we've heard all year how he never plays good competition.

He's plays in arguably the most difficult HS conference in America. You're watching video of one game. Where he scored five (six?) touchdowns.

Gravatar FState,

He plays 5A Texas Football, arguably some of the best in the nation. He also plays for Cyprus District which is outside houston and the larges school district in the state (maybe nation, can't remember). He was hurt part of this year and his o-line was sub-par. He has crazy on field speed and his vision and natural running ability are the reason he's so hyped up. One play and one game should not determine how good a kid is. Relax.

Gravatar Gotcha, I agree. His on the field speed is what is a concern. His "on the track" speed is just fine.

Gravatar open and shut case

Gravatar SAM MCGUFFIE IS AN OVER-RATED SELFISH CRACKER MICHAEL SHAW IS THE TRUTH. DID YOU SEE HOW MCGUFFIE STALLED HIS DECISION? WE DON'T NEED HIS ME-FIRST, SLOW-ASS AT MICHIGAN.

Gravatar Seriously, where is this "McGuffie's slow" thing coming from. And are the people who said "I want that D-lineman that almost caught him" for real? You evaluate kids that well off of one play? I would be playing anywhere if I was evaluated off of my best HS play, I had a sweet TD catch once that even made the local news. I should have gotten a full-ride for that.

Gravatar From what I understand, that is what has been the question with McGuffie all year amongst the recruiting sites. Everyone knows he can run a fast 40 but the analysts think his top end speed is fairly low for a running back. Maybe our new strength and conditioning coach can help with that?

Gravatar One play and one game should not determine how good a kid is. Relax.
Keegan | 02.15.08 - 3:40 pm | #

I disagree. Everyone should freak the fuck out NOW.

Gravatar \so the football team held open tryouts yesterday.//

The highlights for the participants no doubt being able to wear for a couple of hours a jersey with the same number as some of Michigan's all-time great players...and, uh, Garrett Rivas.

\Weis gets his brain trans-reversed by aliens, Steve Dallas-style.//

+10 for a Bloom County reference (JEEE-ZUS, I'm old)...those same aliens also kidnaped the brain of Elvis Presley. True story.

Gravatar Fuck!!! Quit it with the on-field speed BS. Watch his damn tape from last year you idiots, no one, and I mean NO ONE catches him when he breaks away. AHHHHH!!!!!!

Gravatar shameless plug to tell us all that you were a good high school player Keegan... pretty lame

Gravatar what the hell was EECS again? i haven't even been out of school for a year now and i still have no clue what the hell that is.

Gravatar I pulled from RG and flattened a DE* that was being recruited by MSU, therefore, I should have been playing instead of Steve Schilling.

*1 time out of the 12 I tried to block him.

Gravatar MRG,

I take any chance I can get. If coach would have put me in, we'd a one state...no doubt in my mind.

Gravatar I'm kind of sorry he didn't choose Cal. If Rich Rod had any balls, like Nick MFn' Saban, he'd dump McGuffie's ass after his freshman year and replace him with teh new hi skewl hotnezzzzzzzzzzz.

Gravatar The on the field speed comments actually hold some water Keegan. Watch the defenders in all of his highlight videos. None of them look like real athletes. It's easy to look fast when you play the competition that Sam supposedly has played.

Gravatar @ Keegan - Weeeeeee, I got handle jacked. First time, but it didn't really hurt that bad.

Gravatar Top end speed is the most overrated shit ever. It's like rims, if you've got em, great, if not you can still survive. Hart seemed to never break away and he did all right, didn't he?

Gravatar don't worry about mcguffie, if anything we'll have 232424332 other speedsters on the field.

Gravatar Sometimes the collective commenters here remind me of the Springfield citizens in the Simpsons when Mayor Quimby yells:

"I'm sick of you people, you're a bunch of fickle mush-heads!"

And the people reply:

"Give us hell, Quimby!"

One, tiny, thing in one freaking clip and we're talking about McGuffie being slow. Holy. Shit.

Gravatar keegan-it's friday afternoon and people are going crazy. no worries.

Gravatar That's why I think we shouldn't be that worried. Even though McG doesn't have very good top end speed and probably won't get any long runs I still think he will be a great one.

Gravatar Because Mike Hart had the best fucking top-end-speed ever. Come on people, you're smarter than this.

Gravatar Hopefully Barwis can do something about my man McGuff's poor field speed.

Gravatar the competition that Sam supposedly has played.

This has got to be a fucking joke. You are fucking with us, right? There is no way anyone can possibly be this stupid. Please, tell me you are joking. I don't even know anymore.

Gravatar Maize,

He also had an lingering ankle injury all year, that's my point. Watch his junior year highlights, no one comes close to catching him.

MRG,

The HS comment I took in complete jest. No worries, sorry you got jacked. Handle jacking is like vandalism. You gain nothing from it other than you can tell your friends how "extreme" you are.

Gravatar AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

Gravatar chitownblue 00,
I don't think anyone is saying he won't be good ya dumby. Just that it doesn't look like he has good top end speed.

Gravatar \Come on people, you're smarter than this.//

FAIL

Sorry...couldn't help myself. Gonna be saying that all weekend.

Gravatar Because when you put a 4.3 40-runner on a field with stripes on it, he automatically slows down?

Gravatar That DE I was talking about ended up going to Princeton and playing football apparently. So not only did he get to knock my ass in the ground repeatedly, he also was much smarter than me. Fantastic.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com...2004/princeton/

Gravatar IndyUM - then you're an idiot. Show me one clip where he actually gets caught from behind ever. You're talking about one play!

It's a crazy day when the absurd backlash of this place catches their white messiah.

Gravatar quit worrying about McG's top end speed. It is friday go do something else. Maybe just look at all his highlight videos on Rivals and youtube before you post again here concerning McG's speed.

Gravatar @beantown

EECS = Electrical Engineering & Computer Science

Gravatar The part with his name, Okezie Aguwa, was chopped off that post.

Gravatar Here's your top end speed ya clowns,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x...h? v=x4IJ17ODo_s

ENOUGH!

Gravatar The only way these people can get any more absurd is if they start talking about how ice cream is bad.

Gravatar This is one moron Sybill-like with 13 handles being stupid x13.

Gravatar I'm gonna put my foot in someone's top-end if they keep it up.

Gravatar and yes, that is a cyber-threat, cause I'm hard like that.

Word.

Gravatar Question about recruiting.. Is Minnesota in the wrong as well? I know they had way more scholarship slots open, because they weren't all filled last year, but is it still alright? I mean if they had a (really) slow recruiting class last year, and they had 40 open slots this season, they could sign 40 players, right? Or can they only sign 25 (or 28, based on the Big Ten's over signing restrictions)?

Thanks for the clarification.

Gravatar You know what has no top end speed? A WS6.

[shhhh...baiting gsims]

Gravatar you know, SMs top end speed is not something i ever worried about...

but his SPARQ rating is terrible, especially when you consider the competition.

wtf is wrong w/ this place today?!?!!??

Gravatar GoBlue,

They may have oversigned and then had some of them enroll early and they count towards last year. They were only over by 2 or three I think and if a couple of them enrolled for winter they are all good.

Gravatar The maximum is 25. But everyone who signs a LOI doesn't get a scholarship automatically - there are grey-shirts, non-qualifiers, etc.

Gravatar I think some of the people commenting accidentally came into contact with Alabama fans. Turns out being completely fucking retarded is contagious.

Gravatar DanK

How does the SPARQ rating work?

Gravatar If people don't understand the meaning of "sample-size" they need to go to Baseball Prospectus, or, funnier, Fire Joe Morgan, stat.

Gravatar I half-way feel dumb because I'm sure some buckeye/Domer/spartan/WVU/Bama fan just went back to a board telling everyone to "look at Keegan flipping out" but I don't really care. If those were real UM fans that were pissing themselves over top-end speed then I'm worried.

Gravatar DanK if McGuff was really all that and a side of fries he would be the #1 highest SPARQ ever instead of just #4. Fucking pussy.

Gravatar OK. So: Pizza. I think Pizza sucks. It lacks top-end savoriness.

Gravatar On your plate, I mean. In the box, Pizza is wicked savory. It doesn't translate to the plate.

Gravatar i don't know the details....

but basically it combines 40 time, shuttle, vertical, and other stuff to into a single metric for how good of an athlete you are.

SM == 4th highest SPARQ rating evahhhhh recorded by man

Gravatar chitown: The real question about pizza is the chemistry between the cheese and the sauce. What if they don't hang out and listen to the same music as the pepperoni? How will they co-exist then? The pizza might just combust if they don't all like "The Godfather" better than "Goodfellas".

Gravatar chitown == lol

Gravatar When do you think people will turn on Shepard? My bet is October.

Gravatar My bet is October.

i call under.

Gravatar Greyshirts, redshirts, LOLshirts, my head hurts.

I wish they'd had a RR style open tryout when I was a student. When asked for my greatest football accomplishment, I could have told 'em that I once outran an entire opposing team for a touchdown in flag football (I would't be adding that it was a co-ed game and I had to go all the way to the corner to score from 1 yard out). I figure that their jaws would have been on the floor right about the time I dropped a nine second 40 on 'em.

Gravatar chitown- i'll bite (ha). pizza is never as good reheated as it is upon ordering. discuss.

Gravatar And then when someone thinks the Pepperoni is too spicy, he's going to be all "It's not me, it's the sausage that's too spicy. Plus you put red-pepper flakes on the pizza, you fuckwad!" and start pointing fingers all over the place.

Gravatar chitown,

Someone already did yesterday. Said that he couldn't throw and that if he came here would never play QB. It was pretty clear the guy knew more then the staff, so I believe him.

Gravatar In summation, Pepperoni is me-first. You don't want guys like that on your pizza.

Gravatar I want some pizza that transferred from Italy.

Gravatar Onion never gets enough credit on the pizza. Sure, it might taste like shit, but it works hard to dig under the cheese and become impossible to remove. You can't teach grit and hustle like that, it's just natural.

Gravatar pizza is never as good reheated as it is upon ordering. discuss.

The pizza will be 15x better reheated once Barwis gets a hold of it.

Gravatar chitown,

You are a fucking idiot!!! You see one clip of pepperoni and all of a sudden he's a "me first" kid. You don't know anything about him, you're just some troll-ass with no clue, go away.

Gravatar No question that Sam *used* to be fast. But it's clear from that clip that he just isn't any more. Happens to all of us with age. Neon Deion used to be super fast. Probably really isn't any more. Maybe Sam just aged a lot in his final HS year. Don't know. But I am concerned. Probably a wasted scholarship.

Gravatar Dex,

That is awesome. That ends the pizza debate now.

Gravatar And deep-dish? Please. Give me Pizza that plays the right way.

Gravatar MRG wins for the Barwis comment.

Gravatar You people make my brain hurt. It's like a Monty Python sketch.

"McGuffie looks a bit slow."
"Slow? He can fly in the open field and cut on a dime. Also, he hurdles nicely."
"Yes, but he does it against sub-par competition."
"He plays in the most competitive conference in Texas -- ground zero for high school football."
"I understand, but those defenders don't look so athletic to me."
"They're tremendous athletes, many of whom are headed to D-1 schools."
"Eh, maybe we're both right."

Knock it off.

Gravatar BILG thinks all pizza sucks, calzones are the wave of the future, and you circle pizza loving fags are apologists.

Gravatar no reheaating of pizza. room temp & runny or cold from the fridge only. . . .

Gravatar yay alabama moron bashing!

Gravatar Over at RBR, they've put up a post about boycotting MGoBlog:

" They have bought into the idiocy of the AOL Fanblog and have made some scathing comments about the OTS post. On top of it, those leaving comments are too busy questioning our intelligence here in the great state of Alabama.

Thanks to his useless post, I won't be visiting MGoBlog again. Really, I think the should be removed from the RBR links. What do you think? I'm all for it.

And, btw, Go Buckeyes and Schembechler Sucks! "

Wow.

Gravatar BILG has it on good authority from inside pizza headquarters that all mushrooms will be replaced with kiwi. If you don't hear anything, assume it's happening.

Gravatar kiwis on a pizza actually sounds tempting...

Gravatar How many Bama fans actually visit Mgoblog? I doubt losing that demographic is going to hurt Brian's wallet too much.

Gravatar "pizza is never as good reheated as it is upon ordering. "

I would say this is usually the case but some pizza places I think are better when they are reheated namely Buddy's and Hungry Howie's. I'm talking about reheating in the oven not the microwave - microwaved pizza sucks.

Gravatar Once again, Alabama turns its back on the North. I suspect this will work out just as well.

Gravatar Pizza with lots of cheese is good reheated, but if they skimp on the cheese the reheat job will suck.

Gravatar Oven reheats are the best.

Gravatar I like that they get mad at "cheap shots" about their intelligence but I'm sure they found the shots at Brian's hair to be above the belt.

Gravatar I'm too busy trying to reclaim my shattered day after they torched us with that Go Bucks and Bo Sucks combo. I've been crying for 20 minutes.

Gravatar The real reason Alabama fans are going to boycott MGoBlog is because the PayDay Advance Loan ad has been replaced with Kaplan Test Prep.

Gravatar Question is the other thread (from the 'Bama post) worth reading through (in terms of Football related stuff) or is it a big discussion on pizza and OMG PANIC@!11!11

Gravatar i heard in st college & W layfeyette, when you order a double cheese & pepperoni, they deliver the pizza A2, MI and back in St college & W layfeyette, all they are left w/ is a few crumbs, grease and the empty box.

Gravatar quit tugging on Brian's hair, Bama fan. He HATES that.

Gravatar 'Bama grads are boycotting because they neither have the 'net let alone computers.

Gravatar The music in that Michigan State video is pretty awesome.

Gravatar It's called the dirty south for a reason.

Gravatar SM really is number 3 all time in SPARQ as one of the Haden Bros is in there twice IIRC. Actually, he is number 1 if you factor out the Haden Bros 6000 bench presses. A 3.83 shuttle, 41" vert, 4.32 40?

Sick. He might have a 60" vert A.B. (After Barwis). What kind of long jump can you get from a 4.32 + 60" vert? Just line him up 12 yards deep and have him jump to the end zone.

Gravatar JHS - the previous thread is all "Haha, nice job Brian, you showed them!"

Gravatar Well the pads, cleats, grass, and defenders trying to tackle him might bring those numbers down a bit but the general point stands. McG = fast.

Gravatar So no football (links, rumors, etc.) insight in the previous thread?

Gravatar No.

Gravatar Oh, I ate crow. That happened.

Gravatar I bet Sam is the one kid who will be able to do that Barwis trick up on the ball before his first workout. Really.

Gravatar So Nick Sheridan was a walk on who played (sparingly) this year - did he have to participate in these tryouts today? Wasn't Mondrous a walk on too?

Gravatar INSIDER TOLD ME
.
.
.
GREEN PEPPERS WILL BE COMMITTING TO PIZZA
.
.
YES
.
.
NEXT THURSDAY
.
.
.
YES

Gravatar sorry guys, im too busy trying to get my ws6 a little faster so i wont be able to post for awhile.....you can thank MRG for that.....

Gravatar The jerseys the walk-ons are wearing are different than the normal game jerseys. Unless they're practice jerseys, could they be what the new Adidas jerseys will look like next year?

Gravatar OK. So: Pizza. I think Pizza sucks. It lacks top-end savoriness.

Chi ftw. "Top-end savoriness". Fucking classic.

Gravatar Those are the old style road jerseys - last worn in 2004.

Gravatar Nick Sheridan is the son of former Michigan coach Forgot his first name Sheridan, now a coach of the New York Giants I believe (linebackers, D-line??). I seriously doubt he ever participated in an open tryout. Probably could have played somewhere. It doesn't hurt to have a couple smart QB's like that walk on. He probably could play at Northern Michigan like Lloyd Carr but UM is a better experience. He played more than the Coner, actually throwing a pass and completing it.

And that was against legit D1 competition, not the un-athletic stuff like McGuffie.

Gravatar No matter what Teddy Greenstein writes about, he still sucks big balls.

Just another in a long line of crappy Northwestern "writers".

Gravatar wait... there is no EECS 380.. or was it an advanced version of EECS 280 that they have since dispensed with?

Gravatar speaking of the new adidas jerseys, i can't imagine them changing all that much... there hasn't been a picture posted of them anywhere yet, right?

Gravatar 380 got changed to 281 for some reason. I was in the first class after the number change, I believe it was Fall 2001 or so.

Gravatar oh that makes sense i guess... there is a 381 now which is a an advanced OOP class... i'm grad though and have only been in the system a couple of years.. :)

sigh... back to studying for midterm!

Gravatar who waits for the oven to warm up to reheat pizza?

Gravatar BILG thinks all pizza sucks, calzones are the wave of the future, and you circle pizza loving fags are apologists.

Eff that calzone crap -- toast points are the wave of the future, son. Bland, flavorless, never changing. That's where it's at.

Best regards,
Joe P., State College PA.

Gravatar toaster oven or bust.

Gravatar hcs, JoePa does.... that's the real reason pizza ended up decommitting from psu to us. RR didn't wait for the oven to reheat.

Gravatar anyone else going to yost tonight?

Gravatar dank- so...we got cold pizza? or is RR the toaster oven master?

Gravatar Rich Rod can't adapt his pizza-eating skills to re-heat cold pizza.

Gravatar BARWIS, FREAKIN SCARES ME.

Gravatar wacko ninjas don't eat pizza.

Gravatar Everyone eats pizza.

Gravatar Who here took EECS 380?

*raises hand*

Gravatar Took 380 after it became 281!

Gravatar Tryout results are here:

http://apps.michigandaily.com/bl.../blogs/thegame/

Gravatar Cool to see RR open up the team for walk-on tryouts. Only good stories come from things like this.

Gravatar My Homer is not a communist. He may be a liar, a pig, an idiot, a communist, but he is not a porn star!

Gravatar where is my shredder??

Gravatar Pretty disappointed with the "Troll Bama, Troll" turnout. ¿Como esta beetches?

Gravatar I can't remember the last time I saw or heard a Bloom County reference. Steve Dallas is my role model.

Gravatar The original Steve, not the pansy, trans-reversed Steve.

Gravatar again, that is awesome that RR held open tryouts

Gravatar I would love to see someone get to play in garbage time from this.

Gravatar Brian,

I've read mgoblog since the 2005 season, and I love it, and I love your work. But all of your wonderful accomplishments aside, you can eat a fucking dick, sir.

Yeah, eat a fucking dick. Why? Because the walk-on tryout program is about kids going out there and giving their all to be a part of a phenomenal program, heedless of the odds against them. It takes a lot of balls to head out there and try, and any class act would congratulate the kids that go out there and do their best. For you to write their efforts off as 'an opportunity to laugh at undergrads' is appalling, and makes you come across like a classless asshole. Regardless of how much I love your work, when I say 'eat a dick,' I mean it with every fiber of my being.

Love,
Matthew Rodriguez

Gravatar As this comment section's resident Italian greaseball, I will set the record straight on pizza:

Delivery or frozen pizza, once microwaved, can no longer be judged on taste or savoriness AS A PIZZA. Microwaved pizza is its own animal; if you like it, that's fine. If you prefer it to real pizza, then you're bizarre, but that's also within the rules. In order for a delivery/frozen pizza to be a pizza, you MUST witness at least two bubbles form upon the cheese.

Homemade or parlor pizza (no chains) can be microwaved and retain its pizza status for up to three days post-purchase; HOWEVA, true pizza aficionados will tell you that the only way to effectively reheat a pizza is to turn the broiler in your oven to 250 and give it 8 minutes. BOOM

Gravatar i can sum up the walk on picture in 5 words and an abbreviated 3 words.

I recognize at least two SigEp's.

I can imagine RR going through like the great coach, Homer Jay Simpson:

"You're cut. You're cut too. You there, you're cut."

Gravatar Matthew - you need to chill.

Nick, if you thought the pizza conversation was about pizza, you missed the point. By a lot.

Gravatar MRod-

I think eating dick is a bit uncalled for. You're right that it's a pretty ballsy thing for clearly unqualified guys to try out, but jeezz-- look at the picture.

If you think Greg Mathews didn't get a kick out of some goony frat boys puking for reasons unrelated to upside down margaritas, you're a bit naive.

Gravatar No, I know what it was about. I just like talking about pizza. Sorry if I broke it.

Gravatar No, it's fine. I like pizza too. I even just ordered some.

Gravatar Why does everyone hate on frat guys?

Gravatar Did you read the article in the Daily before you told Brian to suck it? It documented coaches laughing at the (undergrad) author. Sure, it was a shared joke, because I'm sure the sports writer didn't think he was actually going to make the cut, but it was laughing at nonetheless.

Gravatar The fact that there's a discussion about how to best reheat pizza is disappointing. If you're reheating that means the pizza's left over. If it's left over that means you didn't eat it all in one sitting. If you didn't eat it in one sitting, you lack dedication. If you lack dedication, do you deserve pizza in the first place?

Gravatar I encourage any of the guys who did not make the cut at tryouts to give Rugby a try (or any of you current students), rather than simply settling for the IM flag football circle jerk.

Rugby is a great physical, as well as social sport. If you are willing to train 5 days a week for the football team, the less time demanding two days a week training sessions should not be a deterrent. All different shapes and sizes can play, and there are excellent travel oppotunities. I believe that the club plans at least one overseas trip every few years. I played overseas after graduation and immediately had an excellent network of people worldwide just by virtue of being a fellow rugger.

I was in a fraternity and played rugby at UM, and both were great experiences, completely compatible with each other.

If you still want a competitve outlet, but are not a 4* footballer, or even 2* Justin Feagin, give it a few weeks and you will be hooked. Even if you are a shitty athlete, you can still go out and have fun.

I am an alum, and have no connection to the current club other than as an alum. I was not asked by the club to post this, but am doing it to help one of Michigan's unheralded, but great traditions. If you are interested, email me off list and I will put you in contact with the team.

Gravatar M. Rod - are you any relation to comedian Paul Rodriquez, of A.K.A. Pablo fame?

Gravatar JL, what's wrong with IM Flag?? Just curious!!

Gravatar JL, what's wrong with IM Flag?? Just curious!!

Nothing really is wrong with it, but after playing regular football it is kind of a weak sister.

Gravatar J. Lichty -

You mean you were a frat bro and a rugby player and loved both of those experiences?

Could the common theme be a bunch of dudes rubbing one out to eachother?

Gravatar yeah, i guess!! played a little rugby myself, a good sub, at Union college (Undergrad) up in NY!!

Okay off to have some fun on main street, at conor's sipping macallan's!!

Gnight, Go Blue beat LS!!

Gravatar Ha that video has been taken down, glad I got to enjoy it while it lasted.

Gravatar I gotta say something here before I hit Ashley's. Mgoblog is very much a football blog, but MSU is our biggest rival, by far. You go to UM-OSU hockey or baseball game, fuck it . . . besides football it's State in everything, and I like it that way.

Plus, I feel like MSU-UM is more the way a rivalry is supposed to be, inter-family, many mutual friends, lotsa talk around the water cooler.

Ohio sucks, plus how many of us students have good friends and family at t(I can't put a t in front of with any seriousness)OSU, unless you're at Ohio, I'm guessing very few.

I'll take the MSU rivalry over OSU's any day, but when we're talking about the best day in Michigan sports every year, obviously that's the third week in November.

Gravatar Can Nick Koenighsknecht please make the football team? Seeing that name on a jersey would be better than "He Hate Me" and the video of Ryan Leaf flipping out combined.

Gravatar Damn, missed the video. Anyone care to explain?

Gravatar I also could not see the video. Any other place to see it?

Gravatar Could the common theme be a bunch of dudes rubbing one out to eachother?

Would that be a big draw for you? Did you become fixated on men ejaculating before or after you were gang raped in prison?

Gravatar \Go Blue beat LS!!//

Chad Kolarik hears your plea and scores 4 goals.

Wow.

Gravatar No recap of the first video? I was at USC's main library. I guess I should have played it out loud then...

Gravatar wasn't there a walkon that made the team last year? some wrestler guy.

and, pizza is like sex. even when it's bad, it's still pretty good. discuss;

Gravatar JL- rugby will always be second to australian rules football. footy is easier to pick up and anyone (with a good foot) can score from anywhere on the field at any point in the game. still requires the physical element of rugby, but at a much faster pace. australians sure know how to party as well...

Gravatar RE: The first video(an now unavailable video) -
it was simply bizarre had to be seen to be believed. It basically said that Michigan was no good and that State was the best. Very trippy music, it made no sense whatsoever. Very hard to explain it.

Gravatar i'm friends with a walk-on that made the team last year. sounds like coach rod is going to be a little more out in the open with tryouts and such though, which i think is pretty sweet

Gravatar i have snake oil for sale!!

Gravatar It's 2am on a Friday, I have one roommate passed out in his own puke on the futon, one quite possibly dead, with shitty pants on the bathroom floor, and what am I doing?

I'm reading mgoblog.

Gravatar more proof that star rankings (on average) matter.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com...ar.watch/ 1.html

This is the best the could do for a list of all star 2* players. I'm a pretty knowledgeable football fan when it comes to michigan, but every single one of these names elicited a 'whodat?'

apparently getting playing time at fosu is all-america status. hah! If this is the best 2* can do, then it's going to be a long 4 years for MSU.

Gravatar There are always a few walk-ons.

Mike Milano (#38) is probably the wrestler guy you were thinking of. He got at least one carry.

Jim Potempa is another walk-on RB who got a carry or two. He was actually listed 3rd on the depth chart when we had some injuries.

Jon Conover and Scott Sheridan are a couple more I can think of.

Gravatar the original C went to Union? wow... small world. a few of my friends ended up at RPI, Clarkson.... and one at Union.

Rt 7 rivalry, baby!

Gravatar anybody here?

Gravatar Did Bo, Mo, or Lloyd ever hold open, public tryouts like RR just did?

Gravatar I don't know about public, but they obviously held tryouts in order to get walk-ons.

Gravatar not that i can ever remember, Don. i've heard stories about walk-ons, but they were usually privately invited, for lack of a better phrase.

Gravatar Is the Scout site down? Or is it just me?

Gravatar I think its you...

Gravatar Dank the term you're looking for is "preferred", as in "He was granted preferred walk-on status." I have a cousin by marriage who was invited to walk-on and played on the 97 championship team, earned a scholarship after sophomore year I believe.

Gravatar I can't ever remember as public a tryout as this, but not being as expert as others here I thought I'd ask.

I think this is a brilliant PR move by Rodriguez. As an outsider bedeviled by (undeserved) controversy, he has to reach out to the UM fanbase in all its various sectors, and getting the student population on board is a big part of it. I'll bet that participation in these tryouts is going to mushroom over the next few seasons as word gets out, and it will help ramp up enthusiasm come game day. All these overweight and undersize wannabes are going to identify with the team and the coaching staff in a way that never happened before. I could see it becoming a rite of passage for underclassmen to be screamed at by Barwis at these pukefests.

Speaking of which, I do think they should station video cameras at the puking stations and stream the whole thing online. This would help to counteract the inevitable bragging by the usual nitwits about how they "almost" made the team.

The reaching out to the player alumni part of the fanbase is even more important, though. He has to have these guys in his camp, if for no other reason than to help deal with the inevitable bad publicity during the normal hiccups of getting the new system into place over the next couple of years.

Gravatar What was up with the "Eat a dick, Brian" guy. He was intense about it. If I were a Um Football player and I had been getting my ass kicked for a month or so now by Barwis, I would relish in watching somebody else have to do it. That guy needs to get laid, NOW.

Gravatar Oh, and if nothing else, the tryout will bolster student spirit if they have a connection with the coach. Look at the love that students have for JoePa and Coach K because of how they treat students. I hope they do big pep rallies before games at Crisler.

Gravatar This thread went from incredibly depressing(thanks to the idiots complaining about McGuffie's top-end speed...good lord, that's like complaining about Puma Swede's cup size...yes, you will all google Puma now) to extremely hilarious(thanks to chitown, Truebluelaw and others mocking the hell out of them).

Than we have a guy telling Brian to eat a dick because he doesn't respect a bunch of white kids who just got done playing NCAA 08 trying out for the football team.

This thread absolutely contains top-end savoriness.

Gravatar Top end savoriness will surely make it into my day-to-day vocabulary, it's gotta be right up there with the "Buckstache" from Mzone.

Gravatar Great, now we'll have a bunch of wannabe ass-bags walking around campus telling anyone within ear shot, "I tried out for the team today."

I'm going to the players reception for Coach Rodriquez tonight at 6. I'll tell you how it went tomorrow.

Gravatar The basketball team used to hold open tryouts. Last I heard of it was early in the Amaker era, not sure if they do it anymore. They would get 40-something guys with eligibility left who would come out. The hockey team used to have walk-on tryouts as well.

Now that I think of it, I think Beilein might have had tryouts, which is how we got David Merritt.

Gravatar Dank, damn straight, i went to "the real U"!!

Gravatar i have to be honest, C..... i grew up not far from RPI, so i actively root for the Enigineers.

Gravatar They've had walk on try outs every year. I had a buddy (Ben Wright) my freshman year (03-04) that made it on the scout team, as a WR IIRC.

Gravatar Ben Wirght along with Rivas, McLintock, Mike Massey, Brian Thompson and a couple of other kids played softball against us in 05, i was kinda surprised that a short, average looking white was on the team. Then realized he was a scout team dude.

Last year it was the Mallett/CBrown/Panter/Space emperor show with Tim North (DE) as the scrub that was also playing!!

Gravatar So it looks like Caleb White has been invited back. Is he just fast or a big dude too?

Gravatar @JLichty

The rugby guys are hilarious. I heard that one year they went to Argentina and they met with a high official--I think it was the US ambassador--while dressed as pirates. I think they also have "Rape Martha Stewart Day" on which they violate the statue.

But then again, the kid who told me this stuff is known to be a liar, so I don't know what to believe anymore. I never heard of a Martha Stewart statue.

Gravatar Pumped I get to see the hockey game tonight. Back in MI for the weekend and the game's on FSD

Gravatar LSSUcks!

I think the reason it seemed the defender was closing on/hangin with McGuffie was because he had a slight angle on him not readily apparent because of the camera angle. That and he's probably a pretty fast little cracker.

The answer to all your FAIL is no, McGuffie does not lack top-end savoriness.

Gravatar Any update on the game? Should I expect to hear about another hat trick today?

Gravatar Nevermind, checked gametracker. Yay for sweeping awful teams.

Gravatar Will someone please put me out of my misery. I cannot stand Dickie V.

For starting the game 18-6, MSU is falling apart.

Gravatar 4-2 Michigan on LSSU.

Uh-oh on Kolarik being taken off the ice unable to stand.

Fingers crossed it turns out to not be serious.

Gravatar Feris swept Miami

Gravatar @ Bando Calrissian

Merritt is/was a walk-on, but he was on the team last year. I'm not sure if there were any open tryouts this season.

Gravatar I'm assuming TOOL2112 is lying right? Miami was swept??

What was the final word on Kolarik?

Gravatar Nevermind, I am looking at the scores but no way can I fathom that Miami was swept. Wow.

Gravatar Quick summary for those who don't always click at all of the links that Brian posts.

Ben Cronin: "This season he has averaged 19.4 points, 15.4 rebounds and 7.1 blocks. "

Not so bad. The unfortunate side is that the article reveals he was homeschooled most of his life.

On the plus side, this means he just started playing ball in Junior high. I think that he has time to grow into his frame and seems to be starting to.

We need a big guy and if he can develop, he is certainly a potential missing piece.

Gravatar Haha, Ferris actually did sweep Miami OH. The scores are up on www.uscho.com. 3-1 tonight and 6-5 on friday

Gravatar Sparty just got beat down by lame duck Kelvin Sanction.

Gravatar Sparty bowed down to Indiana tonight. Sparty is Indiana's little brother right? Isn't that how these work?

Gravatar No f'ing way Miami was swept by Ferris. I'm speechless, especially 3-1 the second game!

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/h...dule? teamId=193

Gravatar God bless you please, Paul Petinski, let me spend my next tailgate with you... whooo, hoo, hooo.

Gravatar So CCHA is locked up then?

Gravatar The magic point number is 3. With a 5 point lead, each team has 4 games (possible 8 points if they win out). One win against State automatically eliminates them. Miami still has hope if we were to somehow go 1-3-0, 0-4-0, 0-3-1, or 0-2-2.

Gravatar Kolarik is a groin injury, Red says 'obviously, it's serious'.

CCHA not quite as locked up, but certainly likely.

Gravatar @ Anon at 4:28 am--

The #1 CCHA tiebreaker is most conference wins, so Michigan needs 4 points to clinch first. Miami would be at 43 if they go 4-0 the rest of the way, so Michigan needs 4 points to get to 44 to wrap it up.

Gravatar Kolarik is out with a groin

Gravatar http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/...in-the-univers/

Hail, Hail, to Michigan, our lasers are the best.

Gravatar Damn, Barwis is even training our lasers?

Gravatar Did anyone see Jake Long on ESPN? he commented at how workouts at school were slow (Gittleson) and at his combine prep he was working on a lot of fast quick reps and workouts. interesting. see ya gittleson.

Gravatar beantown,
that video has been linked to a couple of times. It looks like he's really getting into shape. Seeing those clips really reminds you that he's truly an athlete, and not just some ginormous freak of a man.

I think Barwis has a lot of room to improve on the S&C program in everything from lifting, to speed, to diet.

Gravatar Speaking of a ginormous freak of a man......Greg Skrepenak was at the RR M&G last night. Holy Cow! I don't know if I've stood next to a bigger human being.

Gravatar Let's go Blue--put the bucknuts on the bubble and build on the win streak! Make it so.

Gravatar I had a lecture class with Tony Pape.

It was funny to see him have to squeeze himself into one of those auditorium seats.

Gravatar will the RR halftime gig be available online anywhere?

Gravatar For you fellas with manlove for Barwis and RR, here's a photo from last night....

I hope those links will work.

Gravatar shoot, they didn't work.
I'll figure this out

Gravatar all those empty seats are disheartening. . .

Gravatar Merritt?

Gravatar seriously how tall is that guy? cuz it really doesn't seem to matter right now.

Gravatar Can't believe Merrit and CJ Lee show up Shepard and Coleman

Gravatar I have looked at the basketball Rivals 150 for this year and next year, and just about everyone is considering OSU and very few players are considering Michigan. There is one 5* player in next year's class considering UM, but that's pretty much it.

Is this a cause for concern about Beilein's recruiting abilities? Or does it take a few years to really establish recruiting?

Also, what rules violations has Thad Matta been accused of? I know Tressell is shady, but what's up with Matta?

Gravatar where is my snake oil??

Gravatar Tressel is shady? People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, big boy. You better look on your own sideline first.

Gravatar "Tressel is shady? People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, big boy. You better look on your own sideline first."

# of Tressel star players documented to have taken money: 3

# of Rodriguez players documented to have taken money: zero

Gravatar oh my god, beilein at halftime, that was brutal. who would want to play for that guy??

Gravatar That stadium is McGuffie's home stadium....it's the largest (and most expensive) in the state of Texas. I lived down the street from it for a couple of years as they finished construction and during it's first season of use.

There is a better photo at the link below:

http://tamu-and-baseball.com/ arc...716.html#random

Gravatar Police charge WVU recruit in prep teammate's death
CLEVELAND (AP) — Two high school seniors, including one recognized as the best high school football player in Ohio, were charged Wednesday in the shooting death of a teammate, police said.
Running back Raymond Williams, who has signed to play college football for West Virginia, was arrested along with Benedictine High School teammate Jon Huddleston. Both are 18. They had been held for questioning about the shooting death of Lorenzo Hunter, 16.

Gravatar Shredder, piss off. Shredder is the evil enemy of the Turtles. OSU is evil.

Ah man, does Beilein really have a stutter? I always feel bad for grown men with stutters. It doesn't mean he can't coach.

Gravatar Pat Lazear ring a bell?? No, they didn't take money, they just killed and robbed people.

We won't even get into PAC MAN and Chris Henry.

Gravatar Killing and robbing people has nothing to do with RRod being shady. Maybe he recruited someone that was a bad person.

However, when your coach pays players, that is an indication of how shady your coach is as well as the players taking the money.

Gravatar the days of academics come first are over with RR, lets just get that out in the open right now. no more of this high-horse bs from AA. it's over. RR is a win at all costs coach.

Gravatar Shredder - show me the NCAA rule book entry where it says you can not recruit someone with a criminal history?

Gravatar Show me one case where Tressel paid somebody.

Troy Smith took 500 dollars from a booster.

Gravatar Except RR won't be forced to recruit terrible people to play for his team when hes at UofM considering he'll be attracting much higher level prospects.

Gravatar you still looking for evidence tressel paid somebody?

Gravatar Shredder- lets be honest here. The reason you are on a Michigan Blog talking shit about RR is because you are scared. Good luck against our spread and "shredder" offense.

Oh and Maurice Clarett...he was such a stand-up citizen too, right? I'd argue that he is worse than Pac Man.

Gravatar Ohio State can NEVER compare itself to Michigan as far as doing things "above board" and "the right way." OSU will go to any length to recruit Ohio players. Their fans and boosters will go to all ends of the earth to get recruits.

Michigan has always and will always do it the right way. That's one area that Ohio State will NEVER be equal with Michigan.

Gravatar RR is scared of Tressel already. LOL.

Gravatar Make sure you make your way back to this board next November shredder. Talk shit now. Take shit then. Assbag!

Gravatar who is that hooker with RR? is that his wife? jesus, lady, cut back on the aqua net. that hair won't fly in AA.

Gravatar hilarious Shredder. Hilarious.

Gravatar seriously guys.....all BS aside. what are you guys thinking this year in terms of overall record?

Gravatar Tell me, Shredder. Have you ever heard of any scandals going on at WVU while RR was there? It is possible that it is all Barwis keeping the players in line. Apparently he made the whole team run extra laps because Marques Slocum had to take care of his fuck lion and had to miss a week of classes as a result. Barwis kept Pacman Jones in line when Jones was at WVU. At the open tryouts this week RR also said that academics was the most important.

Gravatar michigan student.......come on, man, laugh a little. that hair is straight out of the WV holler. you know that.

Gravatar So does RRod smoke also, or just his wife. There is no way she gained that leathery tan without help from cigarettes.

Gravatar Time will tell on RR, you guys have blinders on right now, and that is OK. I know a lot of guys on the inside of the recruiting circuit, and what Tiller said about him is not far off. That is the perception among a lot of coaches on recruiting experts - that RR will win at all costs. Is it true? I have no idea.

Gravatar Believe me I agree that her hair and look is goofy, i just think you being here talking shit is retarded.

Oh and overall record depends a bit on how the players pick up the system and who steps up....especially at QB.

I'd say anywhere between 7-5 to 9-3. We will most definitly lose a few games, but I bet we sneak up on a few teams that "should" beat us...

Gravatar I'm saying 8-4 this year, maybe 9-3. 7-5 wouldn't be the end of the world, I have to accept that there might be an adjustment period.

Merritt is playing the game of his life.

Gravatar Shredder, I hate to agree with you, but yeah, RR's wife looks pretty trashy.

I don't know what to expect next year. We won't have any offense whether or not TP comes, but I actually expect the defense to be amazing.

Gravatar shredder--just fill me in on something. i've never understood why fans of other schools come into our forum and say anything negative comment possible. what do you get out of this? You don't see any of us wasting our time on your forums, whether that is tOSU or WV forum.

Gravatar i love that i am able to see our bball on tv all the way out here

Gravatar Mrs. RR is straight out of WV, I'm telling you. The whole thing reminds me of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, you can bet your ass she's been going to etiquette school for a couple months now - trying to get rid of that southern draw, learning how to use cutlery, etc. Her hair has already been somewhat depoofed, but it's still in the 90's big hair category.

Gravatar Can someone fill me in on what RR said at halftime of the BB game?

Gravatar He's not so bad. He's just giving us a good old fashioned ribbing. No MSU fan has ever said anything constructive. And ND fans somehow continue to talk trash after a 3-9 season.

Gravatar Are you actually poking fun at the coaches wife? What kind of low life piece of shit talks about someone's wife? Dude, get the fuck out of here. You want to talk smack about football, go right ahead. You want to insult a guy's wife, get lost.

Man, I'd love to meet you in person and bitch slap you for that comment you fucking asshole.

Gravatar agree, thats just a cheap shot Shredder. but also, what did RR say at halftime???

Gravatar ohio state is going to lose today, they are not very good this year. NIT bound.

Gravatar RR said some crap about how hes not going to guarantee anything except the fact that they'll play hard and physical.

Gravatar They only showed a couple of seconds of RR's speech, but it wasn't a promise to beat OSU or anything. Along the lines of we'll play hard...

Very proper.

Gravatar RR said i'm not going to make predictions (ref. to tressel), but you can bet when our team comes out of the tunnel we are going to play hard, etc. didn't say much really. then showed his wife and her hair, and yes, she's been in the tanning bed for a long time.

Gravatar The fact that Pac Man and Chris Henry were held in check at West Virginia says more about RRod's program than the fact that they were there.

You are bound to get a few bad apples in your program (see Clarett, Troy Smith, etc...). It is how you handle them that makes you a good disciplinarian and a good leader.

Take a look at Pac Man's wiki and notice when the trouble started. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pac...ki/ Pacman_Jones

Same for Chris Henry
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chr...ide_receiver% 29

It is well documented hat RRod had to get what he could at West Virginia due to lack of in-state talent. What's Tressel's excuse?

Gravatar I really like RR so far but c'mon..the halftime speech vs. tOSU should be a little better than that. i'm basing my opinion completely off what you just told me he said.

Gravatar wow JD, a little hungover today? come on man, you can take the girl out of WV, but you cannot take the WV out of the girl. she is textbook.

Gravatar Shredder- yeah but we suck. Like bad. I think we could assemble a better team of football players to play then these guys...but they look good today. I cant believe they are making all these shots. WOO HOO

Oh and whoever thinks our offense will suck, I think otherwise. I bet we have a decent offense...nothing special but we will move the ball and spread it out, lots of new play calls next year to say the least. I bet we confuse a good # of defenses

Gravatar i bet our offense is much better than our defense

Gravatar old fan,

could the same thing be said about Adrian Arrington?

Gravatar losing mike conely killed ohio state this year. jamar butler is not a point gaurd. they really have no point gaurd on the team.

Gravatar I don't see it, beantownblue. We return everyone on defense and Schafer looks to be a really good DC, and they will all be in excellent shape. I am expecting close to a 2006-esque defense. Offense is loaded with talent, but they will be working in a new system and they don't have much experience. Plus the OL is pretty depleted.

Remember the guy in a fatsuit who was supposed to be Tressel's wife. Now maybe he was wrong. The Mrs. Rodriguez comment wasn't so bad.

Cathy Schembechler is a saint! Cathy Schembechler is a saint!

Gravatar Every team has guys get in trouble....what is it that Arrington did again?

I also think it was a huge bone-head move for him to go pro. He most definitly would have benefited from another year here. Being the go-to-guy and top receiver would have been huge for him. I just dont think hes ready. His hands are, but overall, not so much....IMO

Gravatar shredder--you're an idiot for that. what Arrington did was NO where near what Clarett or even Troy Smith did.

Gravatar Butler has no legs, he plays 40 minutes every game.

Gravatar On second thought, I was quoting Anchorman but I probably should have left Mrs. Schembechler out of it. My apologies.

Gravatar beantown, what did Clarett do while he was AT ohio state? remember who credible he is as well. how many ncaa violations occurred?

Gravatar troy smith took 500 dollars when he was a freshman, come on guys. this wasn't ed martin and his cakes loaded with cash and SUV's.

Gravatar Please don't blow this...

Go Blue!

Gravatar All of Clarett's transgressions with this car, illegal taking of benefits, etc.. were while he was at tOSU.

Shredder you aren't even making sense anymore.

Gravatar Tim Wayman- are you kidding? We lost a bunch of our key players on defense. Crable, Englemon, Adams. They were our best guys on defense IMO

I think we will have a solid and above average defense...and in better shape.

Our offense will struggle, but i think with good play calling and the spread, we will be just fine.

Gravatar clarett was a bum, no doubt, but to believe everything he/espn said is absolutely niave. are serious? i still ask, how many ncaa violations occurred? ok, i'll answer it, ZERO. you know why? b/c Clarett lied about the whole thing.

Gravatar this will be matta's first loss to michigan. same for the seniors.

Gravatar Shredder--again, why are you here?

Gravatar I really like Grady as a point guard. He is missing his shots, but a summer under Beilein will have him hitting those for the next 3 years.

I am confident with him having the ball. First time I can say that in a while.

Gravatar Shredder is here because OSU fans are too illiterate to create a good blog of their own.

Gravatar don't know if anyone noticed it but watch the maize rage jumping up and down going crazy..and then there is a mom in the 1st row holding her toddler doin her thing too.

Gravatar i don't know beantown, just playing some online poker and wanted to talk about the b-ball game. i'll leave know. thanks for the riveting conversation. why are you here? finally saw "the departed" last night, great flick.

take care.

Gravatar "bike" hart

Gravatar does tOSU have their own blog?

Gravatar Michigan has always and will always do it the right way. That's one area that Ohio State will NEVER be equal with Michigan.
JD | 02.17.08 - 2:21 pm | #

Well, that, and any area even tangentially related to, you know, academics.

Gravatar Shredder- take care, go get those Ninja Turtles! But take it easy on my favorite, Michelangelo.

Oh and FYI, they always win...so dont get too down on yourself. At least you will always have your FOOT soldiers right?

Gravatar yes!

Gravatar GRADY!!!! Great play.

Gravatar i still got a lot of hope for kevin grady but our bball grady might have more potential.

Gravatar I don't really like this PA announcer.

He sounds familiar -- is he the Tigers PA announcer too?

Gravatar How bout that basketball game! Hell yeah!

Gravatar we need to go over D rebounds in practice this week..

Gravatar I think that they will turn into an unprecedented combo. Has there ever been two brothers that were good at Michigan at the same time?

The announcers won't say it but this pretty much relegates OSU to the NIT. Great to be the team to do it.

Gravatar and that folks is called a winning streak

Gravatar "The Wolverines beat Ohio State.. In basketball.."

What the hell? Of course it's basketball, you idiot.

Gravatar Great win! I see alot of promise.

This is the polar opposite of every season in the past 8.

Used to be:
Play bad teams, build up record and some hope (for idiots like me who were looking for anything to hope for), finally play good teams, and get put in our place. Leave the year with a sinking feeling that next year will be the same.

This year:
Play good teams, accumulate horrible record, lose all hope, get better with each game, and have something to build on for the future.

I like this year better because we can visibly see progress.

Gravatar that was sweet. i hope belein gets our bball program back on track.

Gravatar AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! WE WOOOONNNNNN!!!

Gravatar Go Blue! Finally a national TV win!

Gravatar old fan -- i agree with that 100%. they are actually getting better each game. we aren't going to beat UNC or UCLA now but this is definitely something to build on.

Gravatar well said, old fan. these guys have been playing well on the road lately, too, and they could surprise a team or two in the tournament.

Gravatar GoBlue13, I heard that too. I literally laughed out loud.

Gravatar I don't really like this PA announcer.

He sounds familiar -- is he the Tigers PA announcer too?

Gravatar I have limited hopes for this year and the Big Ten tourney (though am getting tickets anyway). However, this isn't about this year at all. All we need is progress.

I will repeat my hopes for Stuart Douglass coming in next year and helping out. If they win the state championship which they should he will start getting some notice.

Gravatar now we take the big ten tourney and it's sweet 16 all the way!!

Michigan Basketball >>> UConn + UCLA + UNC combined!!! If you think differently then you are a logically thinking bastard! This was all Barwis' doing, GO BLUE!

Gravatar Ack, crap connection strikes again.

I would not want to be playing Michigan right now. If they can win in Minnesota that'd be a big sign of progress, and should be a tough out in the conference tournament too. Major signs of progress lately.

Gravatar 3 wins in a row in conference. Been a while for that. One of them was against a possible tourney team too! I agree with old fan. You can see progress being made this year. I don't know if a tourney team is in the cards for next year, but you can see the possibilities. Beilein took a team that didn't have anything and has molded it into a team that is now competing. No, I don't think it would kick any of the top 20 but give another season or 2 and it will. It's a long road to recover from Amaker, but I think we're on the way.

Gravatar As crazy as it sounds, but I think that we are a tourney team next year. It all depends on the development of the big guys. Rebounding and D are the key because I think that the shooting will come around.

Udoh and Sims needs to progress but I see some positive signs there. Just remember how bad Sims was last year. He was awful. This year mediocre with flashes of brilliance. Next year ...

Gravatar Udoh's line for the day.

6 blocks, 4 steals, 2 assists , 5 rebounds. Not bad when considering he also made an important free throw.

If he gets better then we will get better.

Gravatar If you've been watching the basketball team, you could see flashes of brilliance shine through the tough times. The last few games, we're finally starting to put it all together and complete games. This is awesome to watch because I've seen more progress in the last 8 games than I saw in the last 5 or 6 years. This was the single most satisfying game since we beat State in 2003.

I think we flirt with the tournament next year and are primed for a serious run 2 years from now. Think about junior versions of Harris and Grady with senior versions of Udoh and Sims. I'm very excited.

Gravatar Two years from now is very important. We could/ should be competing at a high level. From there, Beilien will be recruiting his type of kids and getting looks from top prospects. Or he will toil away with 2 star players if we don't show signs of progress by then. Two years from now will be huge.

Grady has everything that you want in a point guard except a shot. I am very impressed by his decisions and that is the hardest part to develop in a point guard.

Gravatar All progress aside...man, it's fun watching Ohio State lose.

Gravatar 2 years!? 2 years?? We are winning it all this year.

Gravatar Nice weekend. Win over Bucks on national tv, Miami swept by Ferris State and M Hoceky sweeps lakers to take a five point lead in the standings with four games to play.

Gravatar Dammit I woke up in time just to see the last 2 seconds. At least they were a good 2 seconds.

Gravatar OSU got 10 more shots off and made a higher percentage. The difference was Michigan going 10-for-24 on threes (for a team that usually shoots 32%) and shooting 24 free throws to OSU's 3. That'll do it.

Gravatar Just a note, Samantha Findlay was a single away from the cycle. That means she legged out a triple. That should blow so many people's minds.

Gravatar Did Brian get housed by Pete Holiday? I really don't understand the issue, but here's Mr. Holiday's post:

http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2...r-signing/ #cont

Gravatar that Pete Holiday post was rough.

Gravatar My favorite comment thus far on the Holiday's thread:

People who break football games down to atomic levels that remind one of a CIA Intel Report aren't "analysts." They're data-jockeys. Cook analyzes the game about as well as Lee Corso.

Yet again the comment threads are better than the articles on AOL. I will give Holiday some credit, it was fairly good for an AOL blog post. His picking on cussing is somewhat over the top. I'd still like to see all of the scholarship rules from the NCAA. No one has shown me all of the rules regarding how they are counted for or against the 85 limit.

Actually, I could care less about all of this.

Gravatar Did Brian get housed by Pete Holiday?
--- ---

No.

Holiday's post is weaker than all get out. So sayeth the 'baman:

1.) "First, it's a hypothetical situation which has not yet come to pass and is far from a certainty."

Plainly, from this comment, Holiday fails to grok Brian's posts. They have too many kids coming in, hence the shady pressures to reduce by any means necessary. Dismissing it as "hypothetical" right now because the deadline for the inevitable purge has not yet come to pass is silly. Holiday's merely taking the Ostrich-head in the sand approach.

2.) "One factor for which Brian did not originally account was non-athletic scholarships. He attempts to dismiss this by asserting: 'Anyone on scholarship and on the football team counts against the 85 limit.'"

Then Holiday points out they'll never count against the athletic scholarship limit IF Saban converts the athletic scholarships he offered to NON-athletic scholarships and never ever lets any of them play football.

Yeah, that's an honest non-scummy solution to Saban's having come into the homes of these kids and lied to them about wanting them to come to Alabama to play football!

Gravatar @formerly
I with ya re: Findlay. I love that you are an M softball fan.

Gravatar Sports junkie. What can I say? Hell, I was so in need of a fix today I got onto the Armed Forces Network Sports Channel to watch the Daytona 500.

Gravatar shred it!

Gravatar i am an idiot.

Gravatar Really, y'all, there is no point in trying to argue with the Sabanation. I'm down here at Alabama for law school, so I'm surrounded by them every day. They are completely irrational when it comes to football. Logic will not work.

Gravatar Boy am I ready for a new post..

Gravatar Any Mich fan that is all sensitive about an OSU guy ripping on Mrs. Rod needs to chill. It's not insensitive, its funny. And more over, it's true. This is a blog, have some fun and quit being so full of yourself. That said, OSU can piss off and Tressel is a scum bag. F them. GO BLUE!

Gravatar any word on adam kraus? he isn't listen on the list for the nfl combine

Gravatar Nice Bloom County reference.

Berkeley Breathed where have you gone!!!

Gravatar You have to ask yourself: Say you attend a road basketball game in which the new head coach of the opposing team is giving a brief halftime speech. Some of the fans you go with start chanting "Asshole...asshole..." when the new head coach takes center stage. They hold up lame signs and yell other foul language.

Would you be embarrassed by those people you were with? Because I sure as hell would be.

Point being, how low are OSU fans going to have to sink before they hit rock bottom? Because they are pretty damn low right now. But today was the most digusting display yet.

Congratulations, OSU fan. You have made even bigger asses out yourselves than most of us ever thought possible.

Gravatar "bike" hart hart "bike" "bike" "bike" hart "bike" hart "bike" "bike" hart "bike" hart hart hart "bike" hart

Your stupidity amazes me. It really does.

Gravatar Hohohoho I get a kick out of "Bike" Hart and his big mouth

Gravatar "bike" bing

(free) Summary of the RR halftime speech.

Gravatar wow vest you really zinged him with that one!

Gravatar @vest

I take back my previous comment. After reading your last comment it is obvious to me that you are not only witty, but innovative. How one can come up with such hilarious remarks is beyond me. Don't worry, I'm not going to question your intelligence ever again, because your broad repertoire of amusing and insightful quips is second to none. I can only hope that one day I can match your posting ability. However, I'm sure that your OSU buddies appreciate your wit much more than the Michigan fans here, as most of us cannot follow your complex verbiage. So, I really think that you would be best served to dish out your daily one liners over at an OSU board. Thats all.

Gravatar zing!

Gravatar Boy am I glad I shut this window before that last thing I posted was posted successfully. It was about as idiotic and full of grammar and spelling mistakes as all get out. Guess that's what happens when you go to make a joke comparing WV to Alabama. Mind implosion.

Gravatar "Shelbyvillian #1: Lost children? Sounds like Springfield's got a discipline problem.
Shelbyvillian #2: Yeah, that's why we beat them at football nearly half the time!"

Shelbyville=Columbus?? Who knew?

Gravatar Pete Holiday is a hypocrite. He complains about brian erecting a straw man, right after pete makes the stupid argument about a team signing a one 5-star player.

Gravatar "The gist of it is this: non-athletic scholarships don't count until "the student athlete engages in varsity intercollegiate competition." So, with all due respect to Mr. Cook, he needs to take another read through the NCAA Bylaws."

Uh, hello? I believe that's EXACTLY what Brian's complaint centers around. Bama is writing checks they can't legally cash. Once fall rolls around, some FOOTBALL PLAYER who has a scholarship is either NOT going to have said scholarship any longer, OR he won't be playing football. Either way, someone's getting screwed and that is the definition of scummy.

Bama isn't an institution of higher learning. It's American Idol, college football style. Come fall, Nick Abdul-Saban will be eliminating some poor, unsuspecting kid who THOUGHT he was getting his education paid for. If I was a parent of a Bama football player who wasn't starting, I would be very nervous and VERY upset.

What a disgrace. It's the southern version of Ohio State.

Gravatar Nice hoops win yesterday...I didn't get to watch all of it but I was impressed with Merritt??? and Major Harris. Always been a Beilein fan and it looks like maybe he has some young talent to work with. Good luck the rest of the year.

Gravatar one=single...

Gravatar Who is Major Harris?

Gravatar Someone remind me why we give a shit about Alabama's scholarship situation again?

If Brian and this other schlub want to get into a flame-war about this shit, that's their right, I suppose, but...wake me when we get back to something that actually pertains to Michigan/

Gravatar I tend to prefer Manny Fresh to Major Harris...but I guess anything is better than Corperryal Harris

Gravatar It's a fight for the soul of college football because Alambama is evil and represents all that is wrong and this is blowing the lid off the kettle of scandal that is the SEC and did you know that college coaches are sometimes not morally upstanding and that college athletics can be a corrupt and shady business won't someone please think of the children and the SEC is dumb and Saban is evil did I mention that according to NCAA regulations, bylaw #2243-A in paragraph 2 it cleary stazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

sorry i dozed off there

Gravatar It's just mindboggling that after a weekend of relevance to Michigan sports - basketball beating OHIO FUCKING STATE, and the Hockey team sweeping, people would rather try to carry Brian's water in a fucking bloggy slapfight.

Gravatar Did anyone watch the hoops game? I'm continually impressed with the fact that Udoh has actualy developed some sort of an offensive game. He has an adequate short/mid-range jumper, and even an assortment of hooks and similar good post moves.

Just watching the development he's made from last year, as well as Sims' development from last year that makes me excited about Beilein - every player that played under Amaker didn't devlop an ounce from freshman year through senior year, so it's good to see guys actually improve/acquire skills.

Gravatar Sorry.....Manny Harris....anyone have any background info on Merritt? Seemed to have a nice game from what I saw.

Gravatar Merritt is a senior who didn't play a minute until last year, when he played sparingly. He is what he is - a career reserve who has flashes of adequacy.

Gravatar Re: Merritt, he's a walk on from West Bloomfield I think. Out of the Dani Wohl (sp?) mold.

Gravatar obviously merritt is the key to the future glorious success of Michigan basketball. Construct the shrine immediately

Gravatar I can understand why Harris goes by Manny and not Corperryal. If he changed it to Copperyale, then it would sound like something I'd swill at Arbor Brewing.

Gravatar I still have nightmares from my senior year when we were a bubble team, when Daniel Horton broke his hand and Dani Wohl had to push the point in some key big ten games down the stretch. That was terrifying - not to mention Chris Hunter launching 3's from the top of the key.

Gravatar We would have made the tourney that year if Horton had been wiser and used a cane to smack his girlfriend instead of breaking his hand on her jaw

just sayin

Gravatar Speaking of walk-ons did anyone else see that tiny white dude at the end of the bench for Michigan? He looks like a bald Ewok.

Gravatar Martell Webb hasn't played at all this season, has he?

Gravatar An interesting bit about Molk and Barwis. I believe Molk will be our starting center for the next four years (predicted this a while ago).

>> "BTW, the coaches recruited (David) Molk pretty hard when they were at WVU and felt that he fit well for the system. I think he was already likely to start this fall before the change...the odds may have increased with RR as HC."

>> "Everyone is expected to run for Barwis. EVERYONE. And a lot."

>> "Molk was lifting with Brawis and linemen. Molk said he'd wrestle Barwis if he could get out of bowling ball walks. Barwis agreed and put him in a choke hold. Game over. That is not a joke either."

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, Barwis.

Gravatar http://www.dispatch.com/live/con...5.html?sid=101- applauding their fans behavior in Crisler.

Gravatar Headlocking players will undoubtedly help their game-preparedness.

Gravatar starting QB will be determined by who can last longer in a cage with a hungry bear

Gravatar http://www.dispatch.com/live/con...M5.html? sid=101 let my try this again.

Gravatar chi, what the heck does that mean? Is that intentionally shallow or off-key wit?

Gravatar I think eventually the starting C will be decided as follows:

Molk and Mooseman will each be repeatedly kicked in the nuts by Barwis. Whoever vomits first will lose the job.

eeeeee Barwis.

Gravatar Off-key wit.

Gravatar Sigh.

What it is, Dan, is some amount of fatigue with the Barwis cult-of-personality. Constantly reading about how awesome he is because he screams alot and headlocks people is, in my opinion, sort of off-point. We like to talk about coached being all hard-core and shit, but I think it's more relevant that they can actually, you know, do their job. I'm not suggesting Barwis can't - I'm sure he can - I just don't really care if he screams alot while doing it. I played 2 sports at Michigan, and I can say that when players/coaches just screamed and screamed in order to be "inspirational", many of us eventually just started to roll our eyes.

Gravatar But yeah, off-key wit, I guess.

Gravatar http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.d.../802170560/ 1054

Interesting article about Amani Toomer.

Gravatar Where is the reference to screaming there? It speaks to the capabilities and credibility of a guy who we all agreed we desperately needed at this program.

I choose to continue to be excited about what this man will mean to our program. Cultish? No. Enthused? Yes.

Gravatar There's no mention of screaming there. But I remember how awesome people thought he was when Brian posted the video of him screaming at WVU players in the locker room. And people keep fawningly posting stories of him yelling a lot. I just don't really care that much about that stuff. In my 8 years of high school/college sports, I find that people who do the screaming are generally doing it for their own benefit - which is fine, I just don't confuse it with "being inspirational".

Gravatar Headlocking a player speaks to his credibility and capability? Again, I'm not saying he not capable OR credible. I just don't see how head-locking someone is evidence of that.

Gravatar Whatever, I'm not trying to fight about this, and I'm probably being overly contrarian. People can get excited by whatever excites them, I'll shut up.

Gravatar How dare you make off key witty remarks here chitown, if you insist on not slurping the taint juice of Barwis at every opportunity you should at least be funny, in a totally on key and appropriate way, you bad person.

Gravatar I am all about slurping taint juice. Basically any kind of slurping I am down for.

Gravatar Lemme see. Last I checked, football is a physical game. Barwis is an agent of change for our new head coach, demanding an extreme level of physical conditioning. The fact that he can walk the walk as far as being a veteran of his own, extreme physical conditioning regimen speaks volumes about his credibility. And the intimacy and camaraderie for Barwis to accept such a challenge also reveals an interesting dynamic. One can see the challenge unfolding, the other players perking up and taking notice, rooting for Molk and so on. If you scratch the surface a little bit and actually avoid your predictable tendency to be contrarian this once, there is a lot going on.

But now that you have the genius dex on your side, I will quietly retire.

Gravatar I'm beginning to get the feeling that MDan dislikes me. But...whatevs.

Gravatar Don't worry - the list of people who dislike me is very long.

Gravatar oh for fucks sake dan get the stick out of your ass. if you can't see the humor in all these articles about a grown man wrestling his college players, then i don't know what to say.

barwis is, i'm sure, fantastic at his job. but is it so wrong to make some jokes about the fact he is clearly insane?

Gravatar I don't think I said I disliked you.

Gravatar Is any one else totally depressed that although we finally beat OSU in one of the main two sports, its like the first time we have beaten them in 5 years or something?? I hope we can keep our win streak going. Losing to OSU gets old very fast.

Gravatar dex, I love humor, except yours. chi was making a point, that wasn't all about humor and I was debating that. Skim over it if it bothers you. Or go back to your child porn.

Gravatar No shit. F OSU. How do they reel in Tressel AND Matta to coach at their school??? Hopefully we can turn this complete domination around, starting with yesterdays game

Gravatar Yes I get it you don't like me thanks for the reminder, I hope someday my intelligence can be raised to your level, I'll let you go back to the big boy table now so I can play with the other kids.

Gravatar I wouldn't get too excited guys. Have you seen their freshmen class this year combined with the next three incoming classes? Unfortunately football might not be the only sport they will continue to dominate us at over the next 5 years or so. That game yesterday was awesome though! Manny Harris is the shit.

Gravatar I also thought Koufas was unimpressive. He doesn't seem that confident - if something went wrong, he started sulking.

Gravatar Agreed. I would take Manny over Koufas any day.

Gravatar It seems like OSU will lose quite a few players, no? Terwilliger, Lighty, Butler, and Harrington are all seniors, no? The other freshman they had that started was good.

Gravatar chitown - what two sports did you play at Michigan?

Gravatar Dan, I can tell you from my trips to OSU every week, that the fall, should it come, is going to be devastating. You know and I know the basis for the OSU hatred is an inferiority complex, just like the little brother's, but more sophisticated. They hate Michigan in part because it is a superior academic istitution, in part because of our "all-time winningest" record, in part because of their uncouth reputation, and in part because Ohio invented football and they feel we have stolen their heritage.

All this conspired to make their low during the 90's very low indeed - for isn't a feeling of inferiority susceptible to self-loathing? - and their current high an unhealthy high - for there is a frantic, manic clutching to the current streak.

When OSU falls again, it is going to be spectacularly ugly. Can't wait.

Gravatar I may have the longest list of people who hate me.

But whatever.

Players love playing for Tony Dungy, and he never yells or swears. Yelling works for some. It doesn't work for others.

As a coach, I try to use yelling as a last resort. Just like anything, it should be used wisely.

Gravatar I swam and played club lacrosse.

Gravatar I played IM flag football.

Yeah, that's right. Wipe the drool off your chins.

Gravatar Spanish, there is something bizarre about Motta's recruiting classes. OSU is not and will never be a Duke or North Carolina, but his recruiting classes blow those away. To have two five stars and a four star next year and then three five stars for 2010?! WTF? Something fishy this way comes.

Gravatar Magnus - right. When, as a team, we were fucking around or not doing what we should, yelling was a way to snap us back.

But it's the pre-game "We're going to go out and fucking this and fucking that and fuck them up, fuckers, blah blah blah (knocks water cooler over)" kind of yelling that always made me roll my eyes.

Gravatar hmm, I ran track/xc. I thought I remembered someone on here saying they had swam at UM, and I only knew one swimmer who did another sport, so I was going to ask if you are Potts. But you are not.

Gravatar My team won flag football my junior year. That may have been the most satisfying athletic accomplishment of my life.

Gravatar I'm not Andy Potts, but I knew him, though we only overlapped one year. Cfaller, who is here often, also swam and overlapped with Potts by, I think...three years.

Gravatar anybody have thoughts on that Toomer article?

Gravatar anybody else have today off? yay working for the government.

Gravatar I won the dodgeball and basketball IM championships last year. So, basically, I'm a two sport athlete, 4 year letterman type...

Gravatar I still like Toomer, regardless of whether or not he keeps in touch with former teammates and coaches.

Gravatar I was surprised by the Toomer article. It seemed to me that the players that Lloyd disliked generally didn't see the field very often.

Gravatar MDan, I am not concerned about Matta's apparently ridiculous ability to recruit. He's a coach who very nearly turned Greg Oden, Mike Conley, and Daquean Cook into 2 losses to Amaker coached players like Courtney Sims, Dion Harris, and Lester Abram. Matta had his pants pulled down by Sean Miller in the 2nd round (saved by Ron Lewis) and Bruce Pearl in the Sweet 16 (saved by the fricking unbelievable Greg Oden). Matta appears to me to be an awesome assembler of talent, and mediocre in-game coach. Sound familiar?

Gravatar I won the mini-soccer IM championship last night.

...Grad/Faculty/Staff division

Gravatar I think the Toomer article is curious. I've heard a lot of players talk about how Carr was a father figure for them and they always felt welcome to go back. I mean, no matter how nice or respectful you are, not everyone is going to like you.

I just wonder what could have transpired that would have strained the relationship between Carr and Toomer that much.

Gravatar Carr is, I think, generally revered by his former players. But obviously that's not going to hold up in every case - this one included, clearly.

Gravatar The only other prominent former player to say something similar is Ty Law, who says his hs when he gets to say his alma mater at the start of games.

Gravatar Lloyd Carr doesn't care about black people.

Gravatar (*Disclaimer: This isn't that big of a deal, I'm just commenting on it.)

Yeah I was just wondering how, it's one thing to be upset with your coach, but to not keep in contact with any teammates either? Any of them? I sort of felt bad for Toomer b/c of the Greise/Carr quote he gave, but to make no effort to talk to your old teammates either? I still think he's a great player, don't get me wrong, but it seems like he might be the issue in connecting back to his alma mater. He shouldn't feel "jealous" of anybody if that's the case.

Gravatar Plus, Coach Carr was a D-coordinator for most of Toomer's career. I don't recall English spending a lot of time w/ Manningham and Arrington.

Gravatar Lighty is only a sophomore. We lose Terwilliger, Hunter, and Butler. However, we add another 7 footer to team with Koufos is BJ Mullens, who can play. More importantly, we add an actual point guard in Anthony Crater, from Michigan.

Gravatar I really do love that he still follows the program closely, even if he doesn't make contact. It seems like many players interviewed don't really know what's going on and don't care to know anything about the new
"regime".

Gravatar I'm usually fairly negative when posting because I'm a bitter man, but I'd like to point out that for all the talk about how this comment section has taken a shit in quality since the coaching search I am very impressed and pleased with the lack of "toomer is an obnoxious ungrateful dick" posts that I thought would accompany that article. Refreshing.

Gravatar Yeah, kgh10, I thought it was interesting that he seemed to know so much about what's going on at U of M even though he doesn't keep in touch with anyone.

Some people are like that, though. I don't know if HE is, but some people just don't keep in touch with high school friends, college friends, past co-workers, etc. Out of sight, out of mind. Maybe he's one of those.

I don't dislike Toomer, but now I don't feel bad for rooting exclusively for the Patriots. I had been kind of torn between Tom Brady/Pierre Woods and Toomer. I'm glad Toomer got a ring, though. He's been a good receiver in the NFL for a long time.

Gravatar ftr, i got jacked @ 11.40am.... intentionally or not, IDK.

anywho... yea the OSU basketball success is a combination of 3 factors: facilities, great recruiter, and great talent in & around ohio. osu has cleaned up the in-state recruiting and there have been a lot of good players out of ohio recently.

also, i doubt merritt or kolarik will return this year.

Gravatar skip bayless is insufferable.

Gravatar I won shirts in flag football (twice), broomball (twice), and softball. Here's to playing in the watered down frat leagues

Gravatar Toomer seems like a good dude. I don't want to make any assumptions about why he doesn't keep in touch with anyone and vice versa, but I imagine there has to be more to the story and until I know that information, I can't really take sides about who's at fault for Toomer not connecting back with his alma mater. The fact that he still maintains interest in the program in addition to being a solid person is good enough for me.

Gravatar http://www.thepalestra.com/playe...er.php? id=10375 vid on RR at the basketball game. a lil shaky, but you can hear him alright.

Gravatar I thought it was funny when CBS went into the Michigan locker room for Beilein's "halftime speech" - leading the viewer to expect something inspirational, then spent 2 minutes trying to figure out who was getting the ball first in the 2nd half.

Gravatar Merritt injured his left ankle at the game yesterday. Any word on his condition?

Gravatar last?
