What about Tressel's offer to Omawhatshisname on the eve of signing day last year? Like politics, CFB is mostly about perception, especially as it relates to recruiting. Tressel is smart in that regards and is trying, alebeit subtly, to perpetuate the idea that RR is suzzy.
It's ridiculous how brainwashed OSU fans are. My grandfather, a born and bred Columbus native, informed me that OSU has the highest entrance requirements of any big ten school. I promptly shut him down, but it's unbelievable how OSU fans set aside all rationality when thinking/talking about the Buckeyes.

I am posting this again because I originally posted this after the new post went up:
I hate to sound like Jim Carty here, but I was a little unsettled by Magee's accusation of racism a few months ago. He could be right for all we know, but I was a little worried that he was playing the race card, and they didn't follow up on the accusation i.e. it was mentioned once and didn't come up again until now.
Optimistic, pro-Michigan theories: It could be that Mike Brown was too quick to pull the trigger on that one, and Magee didn't really get a chance to explain himself. It's like Magee brought it up and Brown said it in hopes of scoring one against WVU. Magee might not have thought much of it.
Or, this is an elaborate plot by WVU and Aschebrooke to make RR look like a liar and they caught RR red-handed looking soft on racism, knowing that A2 is pretty liberal. I doubt it.

Have you encountered any angry friends that will be mad your wedding is going to keep them from watching a Michigan game. Whenever there is a wedding that overlaps with a Michigan game that I've been around there is always a problem. Either the friends are mad they can't see the game or the bride is mad everyone is watching the game on a TV in the corner or some combination of the two.

I do think an early signing period would be appropriate. If kids can choose to commit and decommit, they can choose to sign early and avoid the recruiting process their senior year. It also helps smaller football programs plan their scholarship offers better. As the "signing period" has in reality been reduced to a single day, coaches I think could use more time to plan their offers.

@BGH: Sorry I jumped your shit man, you caught me right after my boss completely pissed me off. (And she reall is nearly that hot, or was 12 years ago anyway- no idea how I pulled that).
I'm completely torn on the whole Newsome/Forcier.
Newsome has the size, speed, and is a hurdler (all hurdlers have a certain insanity). He's academically inclined as well, and you can't really go wrong there.
Don't know anything about Forcier academically, but he has completion percentages of 70 and 77 the past two years?!!! Are you kidding? Most qbs couldn't throuw screen passes only to the tune of 77%. I think that'd tip it for me- he's going to be just fast enough to do the running, but his accuracy would be an outstanding asset.
As for the white/black thing, and I'll probably get in a huge shitstorm for saying this and be branded a racist, which I'm not: I think the culture change itself will be very difficult for some of our older fans, mostly the Bluehairs/Down in front crowd. That was part of the reason I was preferential to Shepard over Pryor. I think that our next QB will be the face of the program, and the culture shock will be lessened to some degree if that person is either well spoken, or white. I just can't imagine Terrelle Pryor, with his near inability to form sentences, being accepted readily as Newsome, Shep or Forcier by that older generation.

Not saying I agree with them in any way, shape or form- I think it's an ignorant, disgusting world view, but I could see it being an issue. If R2 struggles for the first few years, who's to say that the older generation doesn't start clamoring for someone with a more "traditional" (read: tall, white, non-mobile QB) offense. It jusy happened to some extent at ND, it could happen here, too.

In re: to the face of the program, well, Hart was the face of the program for the past three years. While he was well spoken, he engaged in a lot of trash talking, which when coming from an African-American is usually percieved very negatively by the old guard. There was no real outcry there, so I don't think the next face of the program needs to fit a certain mold.

So based on schedules, I'm guessing we get the Miami & Toledo games on BTN.
@ND is NBC. I'd bet the opener vs Utah is shown for the new offense/coach shenanigans on ESPN2.
As for Conference week 1, we're probably 1st pick (who gets first pick we won't know for a while). ILL @ PSU already has the primetime slot with ABC/ESPNs locked.
Week 2 vs ILL, I would imagine second pick behind OSU/Wisconsin. Maybe first.
Week 3 vs Toledo, obvious BTN game.
Week 4 we're locked into a primetime game @PSU on ABC/ESPN
Week 5 vs state, I'd imagine ESPNs.
Week 6 @Purdue, 2nd pick behind WISC@MSU
Week 7 @MINN, this is a shitty week in big10, no overwhelmingly big games. PUR@MSU? OSU@NW? PSU@IOWA? WISC@IND?
Week 8 vs NW, OSUvsILL is a late game lock to ABC/ESPN. MINN@WISC, IND@PSU, PUR@IOWA. Maybe we get 1st pick after the OSU/ILL lock?
Week 9, ABC/ESPN for sure. OSU

Ah, I thought that Mike Hart's trash-talking was played up a bit. Yes, he said some provocative things. I don't think that what he said after 2006 OSU was as bad as OSU fans thought it was. IIRC Hart has never said something like "OSU is really not that good" like David Boston did. And with MSU, he was really getting back at Dantonio and Jehuu Caulcrick for their comments. Then again, I don't know what Mike Hart might have said on the field.

Tiller should just be quiet and stick to things he does best:
Losing to UM (1-6-0), OSU (2-5-0) and Penn State (2-7-0) every year, and selling oatmeal and diabetes testing equipment for seniors.
He's brought a winning tradition back to Purdue, but what a lame comment to make about an incoming coach he doesn't know and against whom he's never coached a single game.

Tim - I was referring more or less to what was being said on the field. I agree, he never really said anyhting trashy in press conferences or publicly. But he wasn't.

The first M home game I missed in five years was the CMU weather delay game in 2006. Even worse, BOTH friends were Michigan alumni, and BOTH were in the Marching Band for godsake. It was completely beyond me how this wedding overlapped a home game.

Help me out here. He's the guy that supposedly relayed to Magee that he wouldn't be considered for the open WVU HC spot because he was black, right? Now did Aschebrooke say "I won't hire you because of your skin color." Or did he say "WVU won't hire you because of your skin color." The guys that sit in front of us at the games wear a "Up In Back" T-shirt. They're classic!

1) Scheduling the engagement is just as critical as scheduling the wedding. Propose in late summer/early fall and chances are that the wedding will fall in the spring/summer. It certainly does not leave enough time to plan a proper wedding for that fall.
2) Maize4Blue, decommit at the alter for the bar? I hope that means you're also being recruited by Hot Bartender Chick.
3) I failed at #1 above. We were married in October. Cocktail hour was unusually long and we delayed the reception until Michigan finally lost to Iowa. Blech.
4) If you honeymoon during the season, make sure you go somewhere with game access. So yes, I did manage to watch the entirety of the 2003 comeback against Minnesota, with Navarre rumbling down the sideline for a TD.
