Gravatar Uh... yeah... wow...

The old 15 minute stop over in Cedar Rapids, you know, a pretty standard trip.

Gravatar Brian... Please tell me this is a bad dream. Please tell me the Falcon 20 is taking some Chinese businessmen talking about auto parts. Please...

Gravatar ... and from Willow Run.

Could it BE more suspicious?

Something tells me its not auto-industry related.

Gravatar Why not fly directly to Iowa City Municipal Airport?

Gravatar Shit.

Gravatar Its all about the small, private airports with charter jets for efficiency.

Gravatar Hopefully, it is auto-industry-related.

One has to feel for Les Miles. Losing the MNC and his dream job on the same weekend...

Gravatar Any idea why my pictures aren't showing up (like at the top of the page)? Everything is just an X. Never had these problems before just now...

Gravatar You're a stalker extraordinaire.

Gravatar Somehow, just saying 'WTF' isn't doing my stunned brain any justice.

Gravatar sh*t

Gravatar somebody drive out to Willow Run...right now! I would but I've got three kids to put to bed.

Gravatar I wonder what this is going to be like for Penn State next year. It seems fun. I'm a little jealous, except for the whole Ferentz thing.

Gravatar Why doesn't it work when you try to click on Read More??

Gravatar well then, i would say somebody has about 20 minutes to get their ass out to willow run with a camera....

Gravatar Shit.

Gravatar Oh, lord. You are the master of info. And bad news.

Someone hijack the plane to Louisiana.

Gravatar Not Ann Arbor's airport? Too big a jet?

Gravatar Why does Michigan want to hire Kirk Ferentz??? And why Not Les ??

Gravatar I can't believe that this is happening. Its like the gd BCS snub last year, but the pain is going to last 5-15 years.

Gravatar I think I just threw up a bit in my mouth.

Gravatar No doubt, tem.

I guarantee its MSC and she gets off the plane looking all desheveled, hair messed, clothes unbuttoned... generally all sexed up.

A 15 minute "lay"over is plenty of time.

Gravatar wait is the prediction that a plane was flown out to pick him up and bring him to ann arbor or that a Michigan rep went to meet with him and have documents signed?

Gravatar Hah. The plane is no doubt owned by hawkeyelounge.com and is intended to further trick Brian. I know this because there is no way in hell that UM would actually hire Ferentz like this.

BTW: On the internet rumor-mongering front, doesn't Deboard have a license to fly the Dassault Falcon 20, that well-known French jet? Just asking.

Gravatar I'm pretty sure lear jets have to go to Willow Run. I also know that Bill uses that airport for business.

Gravatar Really, people, how can Bill Martin be this fucking stupid? Fucking sonofafuckingbitch. Forgive the French, but this is the shittiest news on the planet if this hire happens.

That motherfucker better not lose a single quarter of single fucking game.

Gravatar Shit...ya the sinking feeling just got worse. I'm about 30 minutes from Willow Run...I would never make it in time.

Gravatar Seriously, can we get anyone on the ground at Willow Run? Why don't we get one of the "reporters" with the MSM to get over there? For all the crap they're throwing at blogs, it would be nice if they actually investigated something for a change.

Gravatar We can only pray that DeBord won't be retained... Otherwise, it's going to be "run, run, incomplete, punt" for another 5 years.

For those of you in Ann Arbor, please leave a rose on Don Canham's grave. All the tossing and turning can't be good for its neighbors.

Gravatar I live near the AA airport and this jet would be one of the largest planes that would have taken off or landed there. (not that it couldn't use AA, but it would have been an outlier.)

Also, the athletic teams alway fly out of willow run, so I wouldn't be surprised in Michigan has some sort of executive terminal set up.

Gravatar Let me just say; don't EVER get on Brian's bad side. He will hunt your ass DOWN.

Gravatar shit

Gravatar Brian better hope that no one decides the messenger needs to get whacked.

"Hi, I'm Brian... I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but.... "

Gravatar michigan hasnt announced a press conference tomorrow morning anything have they?

Gravatar Let's assume it is Ferentz. Doesn't mean he's the new coach. He could be interviewing. But we'll see...

Gravatar How can one check to see if a press conference has been scheduled for the next day? If he's on the plane, there must be a presser scheduled...

Gravatar For all the Ferentz hate let me just throw this out there - If he goes 10-2 beats OSU, wins a bowl game, beats sparty and ND, everyone will be like OMG BEST COACH EVARRRRR!!!!111!

A tall order for sure but no matter who the next coach is he will win the fans over if he can beat OSU in Cow-lumbus.

Gravatar "After about 15 minutes it left, returning to Willow Run. The return leg is scheduled to touch down in approximately 30 minutes."

total coincidence.

Gravatar There was a flight from Baton Rouge to Lincoln and back yesterday supposedly for Pellini and Nebraska still hasn't decided. Could be Ferentz, but could just be an interview since they have already leaked they are doing those over the next couple of days (English/Deboard)

Gravatar The tracker says that it spent about 40 minutes there, not 15.

Gravatar I'm inclined to believe if he's on the plane it's for negotiations/getting the hard sell to accept...not necessarily to announce that he's accepted the job. Otherwise, they would have definitely announced a press conference by now...right?

Gravatar The plane was actually on the ground for more like 40 minutes- looks like the 15 minute thing was the scheduled down time. Due to land at 9:30 EST. Anybody heading out there?

Gravatar aw, peup.

Gravatar Guys, guys, guys, relax, that's not me.

Gravatar You guys are pathetic.

Gravatar Also, I think Michigan's plane was blocked from being tracked on FlightAware. I remember finding out which one it was after Beilein was hired (not too many go from Morgantown to the A2 area at the exact same time he came here) but it was blocked a week or so later.

Gravatar 310 people are online right now...can't a couple of you head out to Willow Run and report back? What else do you have planned tonight?

Gravatar Iowa has the 72 ranked recruiting class. They lost to Western. I can hear the laughter all the way from Columbus. What a joke if it is real. Might as well hired Debord and saved the air fare. Complete B.S.

Gravatar I want to laugh at the silliness of it all, but the possibility that it's true scares the crap out of me.

Gravatar Hoorary the Frank Calliendo of trolls has arrived!

I can't wait to see who you impersonate next.

Gravatar Somehow, I think Brian is on the phone with the flight controllers at Willow Run.

Gravatar It's snowing. I ain't goin' nowhere.

But someone should.

Gravatar Not only laughter from Columbus but East Lansing and oh hell, the rest of the country as well...Thanks Michigan, way to keep it respectable.

Gravatar The plane is registered to JetUSA: http://www.jetusa.com/page1.html

They are "Photopolymer Specials", pretty sure that's not Michigan's plane.

Gravatar This is so wrong, in so many ways.

Gravatar F-bomb! F-bomb! F-bomb!
Please, Bill, please - say it ain't so.

Gravatar According to FlightAware, the plane's ETA at Willow Run is 9:30 EST. It was on the ground in Iowa for about 45 minutes.

Gravatar New ETA is 9:30 PM EST. Somebody get out there.

Gravatar Cow-lumbus may be laughing but even Iowa beats Sparty consistently.

Gravatar Wow, this really sucks. Can anyone say ANYTHING that would give me an excuse to get excited about having this jerkoff as our coach? I was a big Carr supporter, and the only thing that made his retirement easier was the thought that we would bring this program into the next century with a great coach (or Les Miles).

So, before I jump out of my 40th floor window, can someone tell me anything that would make me not hate Ferentz?

Gravatar Boy if this is the case, Mary Sue Coleman and Lloyd Carr sure do have Bill Martin whipped.

Gravatar Relax everyone...Lloyd promised me a ride back to my hometown on the school jet if I stayed out of trouble all season.

Gravatar Anonymous @ 8:39

You've got the wrong Jet USA...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ USA...SA_Jet_Airlines

It's a charter airline and a division of Active Aero Group...it can very well be Michigan's plane

Gravatar Real website of the airline:

http://usajetairlines.com/

Gravatar The flight is scheduled to land at 9:30 pm according to http://flightaware.com/live/flig...e/flight/ JUS877

Gravatar I agree with poster above. We are being pathetic.

Gravatar Ferentz is a photopolymer specialist? Does that have anything to do with stopping a spread offense and scoring touchdowns?

Gravatar Doh, my bad. Wishful thinking I guess.

Gravatar Isn't the Football Bust going on right now?? I would think that would make it a little difficult to hide, especially since Martin was speaking there and said he isn't close to any decision...

Gravatar Dix--I think this is fun. I was always amused when other programs were tracking planes during a coaching search and now it's our time.

Gravatar Couldn't we find someone more innovative and exciting than Ferentz, like JoePa or Deboard?

Gravatar they rent that thing out for about $2500 an hour, so somebody was shelling out some cash for a quick trip to the cornfields.

Gravatar *deep breaths* Serenity now

Gravatar I think the bust is tomorrow, but I'm not sure.

Gravatar I just read this and can confirm the following items as fact:
1. I no longer like football, or Michigan, or reading.

Gravatar Is it in bad taste to say that I hope JFK Jr. is flying this plane?

Yeah, I guess it is. How 'bout John Denver?

Gravatar What a fucking joke. Brian, I hate you. I hate you for providing this information. Ignorance is bliss. Now I must be bitter and nervous for the next 48 hours, then I can be angry. It would have been better to just be shocked and angry. Fuck you Michigan football for breaking our hearts again....The one exciting thing we have been looking forward to, and they hire Mr. Fucking Rogers to lead this program.

Gravatar @gobluemich
one thing postive thing I can tell you is that Ferentz's last win over OSU is more recent than Michigan's last win over OSU.

Gravatar Kirk Ferentz is coming to AA with evidence that Kennedy was INDEED shot from the grassy knoll, and Oswald was planted by aliens in a big black helicopter. As soon as Capt. Kirk steps off the plane, Elvis is gonna fly that beeeotch all the way back to Roswell.

Its a fact. I had a link, but I lost it.

Gravatar Serenity now.... Insanity later...

Gravatar 87th ANNUAL MICHIGAN FOOTBALL BUST
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2007
LAUREL MANOR, LIVONIA, MICHIGAN

http:// www.umclubgreaterdetroit....ust_details.asp

Gravatar Seriously though, is anyone going to the airport to see who was on the plane?

Gravatar Maybe it's Bump Elliott coming in for the football bust

Gravatar The only elite program in America that would hire a 6-6 character coach----Michigan. Welcome to Lloyd episode II.

Gravatar nope bust is going on right now, and Martin spoke and said he hasn't come close to any decision, despite the rumors.

Gravatar And I hate corn. And I hate a younger, suckier version of what we already had that didn't work.

Gravatar hahaha so basically we are destined to beat OSU every 3 years instead of 4? And I agree with Gingell..the one thing every fan of Michigan football has been looking forward to and they go for the guy that maybe 4 people total like? (Not counting Martin, MSC, and Lloyd)

Gravatar Any bets on 400 visitors?

500???

Gravatar SOMEBODY GET OUT TO WILLOW RUN!!!

Gravatar Jason, nice work. That gives me hope.

Gravatar Question - How many guys did Martin meet with or fly in for a looky-loo before he hired Beilein? Might be a good indicator as to whether this is worth getting our collective panties in a bunch over or not.

Gravatar Lloyd gets the last laugh.

Gravatar On the upside, maybe we can get a linebacker with a cool last name who can actually tackle. (Looking in your direction Chris "T-Rex arms" Graham)

Gravatar my bloomers are in a bunch... The only thing that will un-bunch them is a hire that at least 40% of us will love, and less than 10% will hate. KF doesn't meet those metrics...

Gravatar Oh Glenn Mason, where have you gone? You innovator of offense, you....

Gravatar I actually saw this flight go over my house here in west Michigan. When they made that southward dip that you see in the flight path, Ferentz was clearly visible and looking out the side window at me. He was drinking a Vernors....whoa.

Gravatar I heard they haven't even posted the coaching job yet. Don't they have to post it before announcing or signing a coach since it is a public university? The basketball job was posted to the public.

Gravatar I don't know the number flown in to visit during the b-ball search, but Beilein only came to visit when he was hired.

Gravatar Guess What? I've got a fever. And the only cure is more FERENTZ!!!!!

Gravatar Anyone on their way to Willow Run? I would but I'm about 1,500 miles away.

Gravatar Teh job was posted earlier today. See the comments on Brian's earlier blog entry.

Gravatar Maybe Bill Martin just needs to get laid by someone other than Mary Sue Coleman then his judgment won't be so clouded. I would volunteer if it meant getting a coach we actually want but I don't think my fiance would be too happy. (For the record I am female lol so don't get all weirded out)

Gravatar ITs on Monster.com, my loser brother in law applied for it. His name is Bobby Williams.

Gravatar If this is for real just kill me now.

Gravatar WE were at 404 visitors and now we are only at 401 visitors. I can only assume that 3 of us died.

Gravatar Ah, shit.

Gravatar I feel like we've stepped into the novel "1984." Kirk Ferentz is our Emmanuel Goldstein - the enemy who is nowhere, yet everywhere, at once. Can we trust Big Brother (Bill Martin) to put his nefarious plans for program domination to a halt?

Gravatar That girl who offered herself to Bill Martin killed herself. She's the lucky one.

Gravatar Instructions on how to apply/look at job posting:

http://www.michigansportscenter....full- swing.html

Whats funny is they say it only requires 40 hours a week, maybe that's why we suck.

Gravatar 00goblue00,

I'm closer in stature to Jake long than a female, but if it will get Martin's head on straight, I'd call my wife and tell her I'm taking one for the team.

Gravatar That was hilarious Jason, +1.

I'm hanging on for dear life here.

Gravatar Okay, okay. If we hit 500 visitors in the next 15 minutes, I'll scoot out to willow run with my nikon.

Gravatar Hey at least its not Da-Bored!

Gravatar We are getting Lloyd Carr light and I hate diet

Gravatar hat- you just blew my mind. And I think 1984 is the VH album with "Jump" and "Hot for Teacher"- not to nitpick though.

Gravatar Why doesn't someone call Jet USA pretending to be a member of the Michigan AD. Ask if they know when Ferentz is arriving and if they can arrange for ground transportation....

Gravatar Can we arrange the shooter on the grassy knoll? There are only so many routes from Willow Run to AA, right???

Gravatar Magnus,

You ready to defend/apologize/rationalize this coaching choice away? You already said you didn't want Ferentz, but now that it may happen, and Lloyd seems to be a big facilitator, are you still against it. Magnus, I just want to thank you for being on here. I know that every time something goes horribly wrong with Michigan football I can blame you or vent in your apologist direction for having the limited-mediocre-old milwaukee lite mentality that keeps this program down. I know you probably dont deserve all the abuse, so I want to apologize in advance for anger and venom I will spew if this hire takes place.

Gravatar At this point, I am actually hoping that Ron English gets the job - at least he can recruit.

Gravatar mgobleu,
That plane is landing in less than 30 minutes...we can't sit around and wait 15 mins to see if we hit 500 visitors! Get going!

Gravatar @Jeremy - screw that, anyone got access to a limo? Get out there and pick him up ...

Gravatar I like that idea Jeremy.

Here is JET USA's #:

(800) 577-5484

Gravatar Jason hahah. Maybe that is all Martin needs. E-mail him your offer. :)

Gravatar There are now 419 visitors on-line, which is nine more than will be watching the Republican debate advertised above the vistor's list. Way to go folks!

Gravatar This whole thing is so depressing. Our first new coach in 13 years and we get a younger version of the coach who just retired. I so want to get a young innovative coach who can grin in a SEC style of play. That would make us dominate not just in the Big Ten, but alos in bowl games. Imagine that.

Gravatar Somebody get out to Willow, please! I'm in Tallahassee so I'd be a little late.

Gravatar Ahhh...fuck! This could mean that random Hawkeye board posters with no capitalization abilities will lose all credibility. How would they ever get it back?!?! Oh please let Brian be wrong! Please!!!

Gravatar Don't fear! I'm on my way to the airport (from the U.P.) and should be there in eight hours flat!

Gravatar 435 visitors. 35 UM fans and 400 trolls laughing their nuts (or respective lady parts) off.

Gravatar Maybe we can call in a terrorist threat and they will shoot the plane down

Gravatar PLEASE DON'T LET FERENTZ OFF THE PLANE!

Gravatar Somehow Mike Hart needs to intervene and save us, like usual.

Gravatar Brian,
You just took your website from respectable internet medium; to crazed-stalkerish-laughing stock of a blog that deserves no cred.

Gravatar God must be a buckeye fan :(

Gravatar you're kidding me?

shut the fuck up

Gravatar Maybe it is a colleague of mine at UofI. There is a researcher there that is performing research in my field.

Gravatar hahah thats true. Where the hell is Mike Hart in all of this? Although he has been brainwashed into Carr's coaching mentality for the past 4 years so I take that back, he would be useless too.

Gravatar EMU football FEVER.........Catch IT!!!

Gravatar I'm going to the airport. I live in AA and can be there in about 25 minutes. I'll get a pic if I can and send it to Brian.

Gravatar Facts about the plane:
It is a charter jet, it is not owned by an individual but rather by a charter company
- unless it is for national secuirity purposes all flights must be allowed to be tracked (read the FAA guidebooks) and something tells me a michigan coaching search is not a national secuirty emergency
- a town car left ann arbor today headed for the airport with Mary Sue Coleman, Bill Martin and one other person in it
- all three were on the plane, which picked up one more, but had a 27 minute delay in Iowa due to needing to defreeze the wings

Gravatar And here I was hoping to avoid hitting the bottle tonight.

Thank you, mgoblog.

Gravatar Brian, this is awesome. I have never enjoyed being miserable so much in my life. This really is like a trainwreck - I can't look away

Gravatar Is anyone else sitting at their computers thinking how f-ing nuts this all is.
I'm not talking about Ferentz, I'm talking about Brian catching the goddamn flight from Iowa to Michigan. Seriously, wow.

Gravatar It's meant to be funny, turd. The reason you're seeing all this action is because there is a 5% chance it isn't a coincidence, which is terrifying.

Gravatar I hate to say it,
Michigan football is a joke. We are a laughing stock. We really do strive for mediocrity....Going after a 6-6 coach.

Gravatar goblue97, if you're telling the truth I applaud you.

Gravatar JoePa called and told me this Ferentz kid looks promising- lot of new ideas to implement.

Gravatar This is fun. Brian, we eagerly await a proper Profiles in Heroism on Ferentz. Yeah, 40+% attrition rate boooo but, like, Brad Banks + Abdul Hodge-Ferentz was kind of slick. Let's see him get the same fair shake the other hopefuls did.

Gravatar Forget the bottle. I'm going to do heroin for the first time tonight.

Gravatar @ son of zoltan
lol.

Gravatar If this is what it takes to be a Michigan AD. Hell I can do the job. I don't know what the fuck I am doing which seems to be a prerequisite for a U of M AD.

Gravatar Fu

Gravatar I still can't understand how a coach who has a losing record against his archrival and hasn't won a truly big game since the 2000 Orange Bowl can take a program hostage like this. WTF is wrong with our University that this is allowed to happen? Don't the people who matter (the big money donors) care about this at all? I'm completely befuddled.

Gravatar Tim Dwight + Greg Devries= Crazy Exciting

Gravatar I hope this is part of our grand plan to move down a couple of divisions so we can resume our great rivalry with Case Western and start fucking up Carnegie Mellon. You stole Luis Van Ahn you Tartan bastards. You will die.

Gravatar goblue97,
That's some damn impressive investigative work. I am going to spend the rest of the night curled up in a ball weeping into my 1997 National Championship sweatshirt.
Oh . . . and drinking heavily. Like really heavily . . . like until Ferentz looks like a good choice. Shit, I hope that I don't get alcahol poisoning before that happens.

Gravatar Huh, Falcon 20, pretty good aircraft.

No ILS at Iowa City, so you can't land there at night in weather in a swept wing.

45 minutes is about right to put on 2000 pounds of fuel and a big Catholic family.

Gravatar They wouldn't fly him in just for an interview would they........ :(

Gravatar I just tried calling the 800 number for USA Jet Airlines, but all I got was an answering machine...damn! Whoever's driving out to Willow Run, take pics and report back ASAP please.

Gravatar Okay, I'm still enroute to the airport from the U.P. I just passed Gladstone and should be to the bridge in two and a half hours...I'll keep you posted.

Gravatar Well, I can rest easy since my nightmare of Dorell or Da-Bored being the new head coach is in all likelyhood not going to happen.

Gravatar AD? I could be president. Two UM degrees, no real football knowledge. I'm in, I'd say.

Gravatar I think this is all an effort by the Powers That Be to make the next few years of the UM-ND series competitive again and justify the extension through 2031.

Gravatar Brian,

Unbelievable job of finding that plane. Very impressive, but I will be sure to keep all females in my family away from your stalker ass.
I hate you Lloyd Carr.

Gravatar This needs one more frame;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6...h? v=65Lcr2gI9BU

"Mike Hart destroys Ferentz's plane and saves Michigan football from mediocrity!"

Gravatar Hey, didja hear. They only fly new Gulfstreams in the SEC. None of that hidebound french shit like a Falcon, yah, right.

Gravatar From PensySpartan on the Red Cedar Board..

FWIW, this plane is owned by USA Jet Airlines, Inc, a charter service technically based in Belleville, MI. The charter service is owned by Brian Hermelin, UM graduate and son of David Hermelin, UM alumnus, former ambassador to Norway, and for whom the "David B. Hermelin Volunteer Fundraising Award" at the UM was named...

Gravatar If only Michigan went through the air this much DURING the season. :(

Gravatar We are done. Michigan football is screwed. Thanks Lloyd. You bastard.

Gravatar Jesus. You guys have lots of knowledge- I'm glad you don't waste it on something trivial

Gravatar Who wants to offer to sleep with Kirk Ferentz to NOT come to Michigan?

Gravatar Those SEC planes are so much faster ....

Gravatar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1...h?v=1XXFJsy- 1Pc

Side move, at best.

Gravatar 505 online!

Gravatar Alright, whoever was waiting to hit the 500 visitor mark to go out to Willow Run...time to go!

Gravatar I'll wake my mom, she'll be mad, but she might do the trick! Get it?- the trick, nevermind........

Gravatar I am a 15 min drive to Willow Run from my apartment in Ann Arbor...

Gravatar Hail to the Masturbators

we officially suck if this news is true

Gravatar Son of Zoltan hahahhahah we got it.

Gravatar I'm OUT! KF HERE I COME!!!!!!!!!!!

Gravatar Someone do a quick fact check on Ferentz's resume. Did he pull a George O'Leary?

Gravatar Well, wouldn't they fly him in for an interview? They wouldn't fly in Miles until after the SEC Championship game. Maybe I'm just being too optimistic here....

Gravatar 00goblue00,

Give me KF hotel room number...

Gravatar I wish Gene Stallings was still alive- he's dead right?

Gravatar If this in fact Kirk Ferentz getting off of that plane, I can see an uprising occurring in Ann Arbor tomorrow. A riot of Michigan State proportions.

Gravatar Heres to another bunch of years of running a vanilla offense where they main play is a 52 gut blast. Run off tackle 3 times and punt. Awesome I can't wait. It will be like watching an offense before the forward pass was allowed.

Gravatar I for one will begin the riot, with a strongly worded letter and a wag of the finger. Tsk,Tsk

Gravatar Guys, Ferentz won't "interview" for a job. He's esteemed and loved where he is. He's not going to "interview" any more than you are going to "interview" a guy who has the option of turning you down.

I always liked Falcons. They make them on the same line as the Mirage fighters.

Gravatar To stop Lloyd's dead hand reaching from the grave and prevent the Horror redux, sign the No Kirk Firentz petition:

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/nokf/
allmanski | 11.26.07 - 8:49 pm | #

Gravatar Kirk Ferentz is on the plane it is confirmed, I am very close with a pilot at USA jets... This could all mean that they are brining him in for an interview, but still the fact that he is being considered means that lloyd is playing an active role in the hiring.

Gravatar Jason-

Since we have to pay him so much in salary for his shitty coaching skills, Mary Sue could only afford to put him up at the local Red Roof Inn for the evening.

Gravatar Martin = Ron Burgundy
Burrito = Ferentz
Jack Black = us
Chopper = Michigan football
Baxter = Martin's future if he hires Ferentz

http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=2...feature=related

Gravatar Okay, I haven't actually left yet; I had to stop to grab my bat so I can Nancy Kerrigan his ass...

Gravatar Whatthehell - the forward pass is a gimick, like color television and penicillin.

Gravatar Does this mean we get that Klickencyborg dude? He's badass. And he plays even if his Dad dies, so hes no pussy.

Gravatar lgblue22, you are close with USA pilots and A2 Limo drivers?

Gravatar They tried petitions, in Iowa, in 1999. Everyone wanted Stoops, and my old classmate, Terry Allen. Ferentz don't read petitions.

The ink on the signatures disappeared, however, about the time we finished in the top ten three years in a row. You know the feeling? You did it last in 1992.

Gravatar I heard that Ron Christensen was flying to AA to do some further research on the coaching change. It could be his plane.

Gravatar Anyone want to drive to Ferentz's house to see if he's still there? I have their address thanks to the directory on umich.edu

Gravatar WHAT THE HELL BROSEPH?

Gravatar I know a pilot at USA too. He said it was yo mama on the plane.

Gravatar lol @ "ferentz don't read petitions."

Gravatar Due to land in 10 minutes.

Gravatar Gingell, it's all over. I am at Ohio State tomorrow. I can hear their laughter. It's all fucking over if they hire that clown.

Gravatar Wouldn't it be awesome if they do hire Ferentz and Iowa replaces him with Brian Kelly.

Gravatar ...wouldn't miss this night for nothing! Don't want KF as head coach.

Gravatar Where would they put Ferentz up for the night? Dahlmann? MSC's rotating bed? We should post spies outside likely accomodation locales.

Gravatar when you fly a private charter the company will generally offer too and usally will pay for your transportation... The car was arrainged by the charter comapny

Gravatar Serenity Now- That would be like when Babe Ruth wa sold to the Yankees. We proably would lose to Iowa every year that Kelly was their coach.

Gravatar Actually according to the flight tracker, its going to land in exactly 8 minutes.

http://flightaware.com/live/flig...e/flight/ JUS877

Gravatar Let's keep those emails to Bill Martin coming:

wcmartin@umich.edu

Gravatar ...a nuclear bomb would go off over my house...LC wouldn't do this to us...would he?

Gravatar Brian mentioned that Kevin White is checking up on Brian Kelly. It's between Notre Dame and Iowa now. We are content with the Alamo Bowl and close losses to Ohio State and Michigan State.

Gravatar @Whatthehell.

Probably?

Gravatar Jeremy-

I already said, because we had to blow most of the football budget on Kirk Ferentz salary, the only place MSC could afford to spring for was the local Red Roof Inn.

Gravatar Fan's Top 5 choices for Michigan's next head coach...

1. Les Miles
2. Brian Kelly
3. Jeff Tedford
4. Chris Peterson
5. Anyone not name Debord

Administration's Top 5 choice for Michigan's next head coach

1. Mr. Rogers
2. Mother Teresa
3. Jimmy Carter
4. Ned Flanders
5. Any really nice person (knowledge of fooball or being good at your job not prerequisite)

Gravatar ...someone should raise the color code alert so that his flight will be detoured...

Gravatar @Ben
What do you mean we are content with close loses to MSU - we've beaten them 6 years in a row!

Gravatar That's because Caveman Coach cannot read... "I'm just a primitive caveman coach unfamiliar with your sophisticated modern ways... Football helmets that aren't made out of leather scare me..."

Gravatar who wants to call in a bomb threat to the airport?

Gravatar We might as well install the option with Mallet as the QB. That would gie us as much a chance of winning as having Martin hire KF.

Gravatar @ BEND IT LIKE GINGELL

Dude, you need your own blog. Your comments are hilarious and I think you need a lot more space to explore.

I'm serious, dude. I feel like you are speaking for me right now. Think about that blog.

Gravatar @Gingell -
Hey at least we are getting one of the top five choices.

Gravatar http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.d...6/71126071/ 1054

Gravatar @Jim Harbaugh Scramble,

My bad, I meant Western Michigan.

Gravatar Had we known sooner that he was coming we could have arranged a welcoming committee to greet him at the airport with some nice signs and treats. And by nice I mean signs letting him know how we don't want him and treats meaning throwing eggs garbage etc at him and MSC and Billy.

Gravatar yeah, you didn't see the other flight that went from Ann Arbor to Morgantown.

It did. Check it out.

Gravatar is he really staying at the red roof inn?

Gravatar @ Meeechigan Dan,

All of our bitching and hoping and praying for a change and the future, adn for our love of Michigan football to finally be reciprocated with greatness by our team.....
and this is shall be our destiny.

Gravatar Who else is excited we'll be playing in the Champs Sports Bowl on December 27th for the next 10 years?!

Guys?

C'mon guys, it will be great!

Gravatar lgblue LOL no!!! Just joking.

Gravatar As long as we're all obsessing, there was a private flight from AA (KARB) to Morgantown this afternoon. RR?

Gravatar 548 visitors...will we see 600?

Gravatar lgblue22, better do a check on that limo, Freep article quotes Martin at Bust tonight, not on limo to Willow run or jet to iowa

Gravatar Updated flight log says that the flight landed 12 minutes ago. They threw us all off

Gravatar @ BRCE,

Thanks,
but I am a one trick pony, only creative and funny out of anger, sarcasm, and hopelessness. IF things were to turn around (Mich were to actually be "leaders and best") I would have nothing, no material.

Gravatar >>
yeah, you didn't see the other flight that went from Ann Arbor to Morgantown.

It did. Check it out.

>>

Bill Martin's interview process involves pitting potential coaches against each other in NCAA 2008. This one is Rodriquez vs. Ferentz. No biggie.

Gravatar No, lgblue he is staying at the Holiday Inn Express.....

Gravatar where are the pictures? did you shoot him?

Gravatar If only his game planning were that deceptive, we wouldn't have 500+ bitching right now.

Gravatar these rumors play tricks on the mind
if i wake up tomorrow to find
that these horrors are so
well then i won't know
whether to shit or go blind

Gravatar For all the shit ferentz is getting he has won as many big ten titles since 2002 as UM has.

Gravatar take the shit, then rub it in your eyes.

Gravatar The comment about one of the owners of USA Jet Airlines is true (from http://sec.edgar-online.com/1999.../Section4.asp):

"BRIAN M. HERMELIN is currently Chief Operating Officer and a director of USA Jet Airlines Inc., a cargo airline that also operates Active Aero Charter, an air charter broker and logistics provider. ... Mr. Hermelin is a graduate of the University of Michigan and has received a Masters in Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania."

But, I would assume that there would be a good number of companies located around Ann Arbor that would have owners with U of M ties. Possibly a coincidence?

Gravatar When Ferentz is hired...

We won't have to worry about being ranked high in the preseason.

We won't be a national joke when we start #5 and end at #34.

We won't have our hopes and dreams of a NC crushed every year because a New Year's day bowl will be the goal.

We won't be mad when we lose to o$u, just expect it.

We will have a pretty stadium?

We will have more white guys.

We will recruit more thugs from Detroit.

We will give scholly's to coaches kids who shouldn't be played at GVSU.

We will lose to Sparty, and Dantonio will get his revenge.

Fu

Gravatar @ Meeechigan Dan

Can you comment on why you think KF is a clown? That doesn't make sense to me. He seems like a very good coach. With better players, he may seem a lot more Tressel-like than people are giving him credit for.

- BS

Gravatar So we wanted a coach for christmas, and this is what Bill's gonna give us.

http://www.break.com/index/ snl_a...istmas_box.html

Gravatar Brian Kelly is going to be burning us for years to come if we miss out on him!

COME ON Martin!

Gravatar We'll still beat Sparty no matter who is the coach (unless that coach is Da-Bored).

Gravatar Our dreams were dashed the moment Ferentz boarded the plane. It's a matter of dotting the i's and crossing the t's at this point. I just hope they don't hike tuition to pay for his "services".

At least our coach can still beat Notre Dame's coach in a game of sprint.

GEAUX TIGERS.

Gravatar p.s. why the F am I sitting here staring at this computer waiting for what is undoubtedly going to be no news?

Gravatar Rich Rodriguez is not coming to AA to interview when he's getting ready to coach in the Backyard Brawl for a shot at the NC game. No effing way.

On the other hand, here is the Willow Run activity link if you're bored from now until a coach is hired:

http://flightaware.com/live/airport/KYIP

Gravatar OK. Perspective please. Consider the following propositions:

1. For all of his faults, Lloyd Carr may know a thing or two about who can coach at Michigan.

2. Ferentz is the best-prepared of all the candidates I have heard mentioned to coach at Michigan. He knows the Big 10, he has experience coaching a major program, and he is ethically beyond reproach. There is so much more than X's and O's involved; I think Martin is looking at character.

3. The last two years have been mediocre for Iowa, but Ferentz has remained on the hotlist whenever an NFL position opens up.

4. I've said this before--this search is not about rebuilding, but maintaining excellence. Had Michigan had consecutive losing seasons, I would say break the mold and overhaul the program. But that is not what has happened.

5. Yes, choosing Ferentz is risk-averse. But this is a conservative program, folks. And always has been.

Gravatar Ferentz will be the next head coach of Michigan.... This is pathetic, granted he was a hot commodity three years ago, but I think at one point Laser Disc was the hot movie format

Gravatar blah, blah, blah! flight here/flight there, phone call here/phone call there, i saw this/heard that/know someone who knows someone who says they know someone that was walking down state street and overheard lloyd talking on his cell phone saying lesmilesbriankellyferentzstoopspedersonmeyertresse lcarrollweisdantonioblahblah blah...

Gravatar Why? Have you watched his offense? It is a more pedestrian version of our offense. He has just posted three pathetic years because...why? Just because he has shitty players. WHOSE FUCKING SHITTY PLAYERS ARE THEY? His, that's who. Iowa is no harder to recruit to than Wisconsin or Rutgers or Louisville or Cincinnati. He fucking can't win, except for one stretch in his whole fucking career! Why are we looking at this clown? Cronyism! Of some washed up tenured professor/admin piece of shit that is taking my beloved Wolverines down the fucking shitter.

Gravatar Also, why do people think Brian Kelly is so great? Did anyone else see any Cinci games this year? At times, they didn't look so hot....
- BS

Gravatar Ferentz will be staying at the Embassy downtown. Bring your crack pipes for the VIP announcement of his new job at UM.

Gravatar What you numbnuts don't realize is that Iowa is a physically stronger team than OSU, and Chris Doyle is the reason. Cheer the fuck up.

Gravatar Meechigan Man,

You delusional enabler...

Maintaining excellence.....at what, going 9-4 and being mediocre.

Gravatar @ M. Dan

Well, I certainly appreciate the sentiment. Whoever it is, though, you have to admit the last four years have been pretty bad under Lloyd (and I am not a Lloyd basher). It would take a pretty monumentally bad choice (e.g., Weis, Callahan) to do worse than we have lately.

-BS

Gravatar I am officially thisclose to becoming a USF fan, Leavitt's whiskey voice after a hard ay's screaming and all.
DaMMMIT, MAN!

Gravatar A flight came in from South Bend at 8:30. It's not Charlie Weiss...because that would take a bigger plane.

Gravatar Leavitt's also an Iowa man. Go USF.

Gravatar Kirk's got a nice head of hair, wouldn't you agree?

Gravatar Now I know how Bama fans feel when they hired Dennis Franchione; how Nebraska fans feel when they hired Bill Callahan; how USC fans feel when they hired Paul Hackett... Why? WHY?

Did someone notice a flight between AA and Cincinnati? Please. PLEASE.

Gravatar 600. I guess you'll sell out, after all.

Gravatar kudos to the "dick in a box" link post.

and to the "I think I just threw up a bit in my mouth." post.

lol

Gravatar Guys,

I think we are all really getting to worked up about this. All indications are that the search is just starting. Martin keeps going on record as saying so. He can't make a quick hire and save face. Ferentz could still end up being the guy, but with his salary, I can't buy U-M pulling it off. They would probably need booster help (like they did with Beilein) and I can't see the boosters buying off on this.

BTW, what an appropriate quote...is this just a coincidence?

"Martin declined to comment on the search, but told the assembled fans at the bust: “I haven’t had any flights on jets, I haven’t left Ann Arbor,” but that he’s hard at work trying to find Lloyd Carr’s replacement."

Gravatar I see the future.

We'll announce the hiring.

Then, later, the coordinators will say they're staying.

Then they'll make our stadium smaller, to the point we're not the biggest anymore.

Then McGuffie will decommitt.

Add a dash of Tressel insecurity and the possibility of an upcoming Dantonio-led program and this makes me want to throw up.

Gravatar You guys, there was a flight to/from South Bend and Willow Run today! Charlie Weis is our new coach!!!

Gravatar Oh yeah! 10 more years of dominance!

Gravatar How many vistitors did we get for the whole ro jo thing the day he signed. I cant remember this many people except for that.

Gravatar KF Positives:
- Awesome hair
- Great chin
- Looks awesome
- No worse than 8-4, guaranteed
- Can pin Tressel in 5 seconds flat
- Recruiting: Can't get any worse than Iowa
- Likes to be predictable (ala Bo)

KF Negatives:
- Coached Iowa
- Often lost to main in-state rival
- Seems tired

Gravatar Just because Martin hasn't left AA doesn't mean nobody from the AD has

Gravatar I used to laugh and mock the apologists who said I would be sorry when Lloyd retired and realize how good I had it with him as coach.
Looks like they were right.

Gravatar Kirk must be well hung because Mary Sue is dying to get him to AA.

I blame Navarre for this...lol.

Gravatar hahahaha embassy.

Gravatar Anyone seen my bratwurst?

Gravatar Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! My fucking brain exploded!

Gravatar So does the Big Ten still have ties to the Sun Bowl? I've got to think about the best time to book a flight to El Paso in December 2008.

Gravatar hahah Be Serious...if thats the case then Les Miles blows it away because clearly he is better looking than Ferentz :)
Mary Sue and Martin don't have a chance in hell of bedding Les, I bet that was the reason lol.

Gravatar Joccin' on yo bitch asses!

Gravatar KF just performed his first official duty as coach and punched Ryan Mallet. "He had it coming, that's all," he was overheard saying. It's all over sportscenter.
- BS

Gravatar 00goblue00,
Did you just say that you thought Les Miles was good looking? Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Gravatar this sucks!

Gravatar Hope his flight is warmer than mine was

Gravatar LMFAO @ BeSerious

Gravatar If KF walked in and punched mallett for being a fumbling idiot, I'd wlecome him with open arms.

Gravatar KF Positives:
- Awesome hair
- Great chin
- Looks awesome
- No worse than 8-4, guaranteed

Um, Ferentz hasn't won 8+ games in four years.

Gravatar Couldn't this just be us dropping him off after an interview?

Maybe I missed something, but based on Brian's post today earlier, it could very well be that they have just been interviewing him.

Let's keep track of this plane though, hopefully it goes to Idaho, Cincinnati, and Baton Rouge in the next few weeks.

For the record, I am not of the "end of the world" mode if Ferentz is hired---under a few conditions:

(1) No Debord.
(2) No Ken O'Keefe (i.e. no Debord Sr.)
(3) We at least legitimately consider Kelly, Peterson, and Miles.

That said, Ferentz is AT BEST my 4th choice. AT BEST.

Please let my somewhat blind faith in Martin be well-founded.

Gravatar Where is Magnus when I need him,

I need someone to blame for being a delusional rationalizer who represents everything wrong with Midwest self-contented mediocrity (Michigan football).

Gravatar He totally had it coming...

Also, who's ready for the Alamo Bowl 2008-2018?!

Gravatar Actually Mary Sue arranged for Ferentz to come in this evening specifically so Martin couldn't be on the flight. She wanted him all to herself so she could perform sexual favors on him. This is part of her strategy to ensure he performs well in the interview to get the job.

Gravatar Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Gravatar Personally, I think Kirk Ferentz is the perfect guy for the job.

Gravatar Wow...the Freep really is pretty on top of all this. I'm impressed.

Gravatar Les miles is virile that if you say the name "Les Miles" around a woman, she will become impregnated with his child... unfortunately she will miscarry because no woman can carry his child to term.

Gravatar Time for a few laughs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w...h? v=wpcDAaJFpcY

Gravatar Ferentz just turned down the position. They will be offering it to DeBord tomorrow.

Gravatar I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you.

Gravatar Dan,

I thought your brain exploded already...

Gravatar TX Wolverine-

I'm not going to lie, I think Les Miles is pretty damn sexy...(see previous post which indicates that I am female before you all freak lol)

Gravatar I heard that Les Miles'parents tried to have him aborted... Les Miles was the only survivor.

Gravatar Let me put it this way, Mr. Amor. The 9000 series is the most reliable computer ever made. No 9000 computer has ever made a mistake or distorted information. We are all, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of error.

Gravatar My husband (goblue97) just left Willow Run Airport. No Ferentz. He spoke with a woman getting off of the plane from Iowa. She was a crew member and said that the run to Iowa and back was just a crew swap. No passengers on the plane. My husband says that you can all breathe a sigh of relief for now.

Gravatar The Detroit Freep just cut in with breaking news! We officially suck balls.

Gravatar Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I'm half crazy all for the love of you. It won't be a stylish marriage, I can't afford a carriage. But you'll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two.

Gravatar *Exhaling*

Gravatar Yep, Les Miles does it for me, too. I'm not sure what it is, but he looks like a coach should look. Then again, I had a real affinity for Rick Neuheisel, too. Yum!

Gravatar There is no guarantee with any coach.

Pray that God will help whomever accepts the job.

No one expected Tressel to have success like he has, no one expected Weis to fail so fabulously.

Support whomever is selected and let your loyalty show what it means to be a Michigan Fan.

Gravatar Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.

Gravatar If this is true, Wife of Goblue97, I think your work is cut out for you this evening.

Gravatar What happens if we get 666 visitors?

Gravatar Dave's not here, man.

Gravatar Alamo Bowl!! Alamo Bowl!! I'm thinking more of the PapaJohn's.com bowl.

Gravatar hey will, go to hell

Gravatar Nope we are bringing back the Bluebonnet Bowl

Gravatar ONE HUNDRED COCKTAILS to the goblue97s

Gravatar JeremyB...LOL...maybe not 100% classy, but LOL.

Gravatar where is this freep news everyone is talking about?

Gravatar Just a crew swap? DO you really think they are going to tell people hanging around what was really going on. If the University wanted it hush hush they wouldn't just tell some random standing around waiting. News reporter, maybe...random guy, def not.

Gravatar At 666 visitors, Bill Martin breaks into national tv with the new coach; out waddles Charlie Weis with horns and a forked tongue.

Gravatar With this hire we will officially go from MSU's big brother to its slow moving uncle.

Gravatar BRIAN YOU ARE CRAZY MAN.

I like you but you are crazy

Gravatar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q...h? v=Qsl2O2H7g1c

Gravatar Airplane? No way you would ever get me up in one of those things.

Gravatar Here's the U-M homepage on the Freep...

http://www.freep.com/apps/ pbcs.d...tegory=SPORTS06

There have been frequent updates today, which is pretty unusual for an old print newspaper. The Internet has forced them to be more responsive.

Gravatar Uh, aaron, what the HELL???!!!

Gravatar Dammit, Dammit...son of a bitch!

No, seriously, people this cannot be possible; such a questionable hiring decision. I like Brian a lot as the mgoblogger but I am struggling mightily with the veracity of UM potentially making such a debatable hire. Looks like an interview, maximally, to me...perhaps the courtesy model in order to assuage the influence of our departing friend (Head Coach of the 97 MNC, you may recall) Lloyd Carr. Friends, I give you my rationale:

Factors Supporting UM hiring Ferentz:

- supposed name candidate
- experienced coaching Big 10 football (meaning here unimaginative scheming, generally)
- past connections to Belichick (as a Browns fan don't even remind me of that era)
- former "hot" NFL candidate (see: Petrino, Bobby for how that works out)
- apparently is rather popular with MSC

Factors Opposing UM hiring Ferentz:

- alumni donation (don't you be looking for more money from me...MSC...)
- boosters (see above but x10 and make these guys more obsessive x50 since they live and die the football but never actually went to the place or sat in the student section; these are the guys in my section swearing all the time that my kid complains about)
- new stadium mods and luxury boxes (see both parts immediately above) and can anyone reasonably forsee a hiring of Kirk Ferentz as saleable? Even the UM admin. has to be smarter than that...hell, Sparty is smarter than that...

So that's it friends, a bunch of so so points for hiring versus money collection. We all know the UM is "about the monies"...

I'm going to sleep on that and hope this Ferentz talk is all a bad dream.

Best wishes all,

"Nothing good ever happens after midnight." -- Bo Schembechler

Gravatar Hey Aaron, is that Rick Neuheisel?

Gravatar The Freep is indicating DeBord is interviewing tomorrow. Here's my latest fear (I hope irrational). The DeBord interview is with KF to see if he stays on with the program. Lloyd will probably be sitting outside of the office waiting to drill into KF how DeBord must stay...

No data behind this just FEAR!!!

Gravatar Dropping from 600 rapidly.

Gravatar Good GOD we are all losers. Aren't there slightly more important things in the world?

Gravatar Jason, fear is good! I bet one of the BIG saleable points on KF is that he will retain a high percentage of the current staff.

Gravatar South FL. No.

Gravatar I took the job, and will keep DeBord.

Gravatar LMAO at the Mark Mangino comment. I just laughed right in front of my law school professor over that one.

Gravatar One thing I don't understand, is don't we need to seek permission from the Iowa AD before we talk to Kirk F?

If the Iowa AD has not given any indication that we have asked, doesn't it make all this wondering about Ferentz pointless?

Gravatar Just got back from Willow Run. That flight was just a flight crew changing crews. No passengers on the plane. I was the only fan there along with a channel 4 News Van

Gravatar Hey guys - relax!

Kirk actually held a team meeting today (relax folks, this one has been on the books for a while) and spoke with the team. At no point did he address Michigan and any rumors. He simply said that they need to get back to work and they plan on having practices this Friday and Saturday.

Since the team is bowl eligible, they are allowed to practice until they are officially out of bowl consideration.

tkakert@aol.com

Gravatar Funny one...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0...h?v=008- ApWSM5w

Gravatar Dear God, make me a bird, so I can fly away, far, far away from here.

Sometimes, there just aren't enough rocks.

Gravatar Meeechigan Dan,

If this was 1993 and you were one of my pals from UofM and we were walking back from Monday Night $1 pitchers at Rick's and you said something like that, there would have been a lot of fighting going on. Not completely mean spirited you need to die fighting, but the I can't believe you utter something so terrible, I need to beat those thoughts out of your head fighting. Which would have been followed by more drinking.

Then I would wake on Tuesday morning and realize you were right, call to apologize, then the combination of the hangover and the bad news would have me praying to the porcelain god.

Gravatar You guys are paranoid...

The freep.com just reported that English interviewed today, and DeBord is interviewing tomorrow.

Why would Michigan bring Ferentz on Tuesday (or even Wednesday), if they are interviewing DeBord on Tuesday?

No one is getting the HC job in the immediate future. Ferentz aint on that plane. He isnt getting the job any time soon. Brian (the kid who is writes this website) is making a fool of himself, and so is anyone who believes his stuff.

As Obiwan once said, "who is the more foolish, the fool or the fools who follow him?"

Gravatar please rescue me before these coonasses kill me for losing to Ark on purpose to come to Ann Arbor damnit!!!!!!!!!

Gravatar Hmmm...Zack where was goblue97?

Gravatar Debord just offered lifetime contract.

Gravatar Love this one...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i...h? v=iPBeZpMXHCI

Gravatar LOL @ the Les Miles post.

Gravatar Hey, uh Zack, tell me again why the company just spent $9000 to deadhead a crew?

Gravatar Ahhhh, LOVE lil hitler...

Gravatar Is it at all possible that this flight was run by the University to keep everybody guessing and maybe take some of the spotlight off of Miles? The guy might have asked (implied) for some space... If it is true, at least we aren't getting fat Charlie.

Gravatar Pay attention people:

Kirk actually held a team meeting today (relax folks, this one has been on the books for a while) and spoke with the team. At no point did he address Michigan and any rumors. He simply said that they need to get back to work and they plan on having practices this Friday and Saturday.

Since the team is bowl eligible, they are allowed to practice until they are officially out of bowl consideration.

tkakert@aol.com

Gravatar http://flightaware.com/live/flig...e/flight/ SYC331

And a flight from AA to Morgantown...You can make the same case, oh wow, who flies to Morgantown(Rich Rodriguez). It's all true flights, but probably all hogwash. People fly places

Gravatar Look, whoever it is will have to beat OSU or he's gone. And and when we beat OSU then we'll be good enough for BCS bowls and more. Even MSC won't be able to stand the pressure if our new coach goes 8-4 regularly with no OSU wins. Carr was an insitution, new coach (even if it's Capt. Kirk) won't get the leeway Carr did.

Gravatar BTW, anyone find it interesting that Channel 4 news was at the airport? Guess some MSM are reading this blog...

Gravatar They tried flying down a load of money for KF. He told them they'd need a much bigger plane.

Gravatar (possible) News like his make me crave the good old days.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w...h? v=wvgdrOElte4

Gravatar @Kblow -
agreed all the new guy has to do is beat OSU and he will win the fans over.

If Kirk can beat osu he is fine in my book.

Gravatar Anyone ever try Sauerkraut and Canadian Bacon pizza? It's the best.

Gravatar My page shows "Done, but with errors on page" and some pictures out showing up - layout is all messed up. Anyone have any idea how I can fix?

Gravatar If _____________ can beat OSU he's fine in my book. :)

Gravatar Freep article basically over rules all this speculation about the plane deal, along with what was reported first hand by goblue97.

English interviewed today, Deboard on Tuesday. The fricken search committee isn't even in place yet. I think we need to slow down these rumors as it is kind of ridiculous that UM would just jump on one guy and hire him. This is going to take awhile folks...

Gravatar no talk here at all about this

sincerely,

major michigan newspaper employee in the sports department.

Gravatar Jason, I am trying to remember which incoherent babble I made during my breakdown this evening that you are referring to, but I get it. LOL.

Gravatar HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP Bo called me and said I could come damnit why is Lloyd flyin to see Kirk?

Gravatar http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.d...6/71126071/ 1054

Gravatar Tony...agreed.

Gravatar This can only be proof that Lloyd Carr will go on ruining Michigan Football for years to come. Anyone know a good exorcist?

Gravatar We have known since september that Lloyd was retiring. They know who they want. I doubt there is a committee of any kind except Martin, MSC, and Lloyd.

If I was the AD Les, you would already be here lol.

Gravatar The Morgantwon flight was one way. And it was a twin piston Cessna. Not exactly the jet that did the Iowa hop.

Gravatar Don't expect the "boosters" to come to our rescue. What makes people think that boosters are as well read about the negatives about certain coaches as we are in the blogosphere or as negative about Ferentz as we are here?

The majority of boosters probably remember when Ferentz was the it girl and haven't thought about his since.
Unfortunately, I know several big dollar boosters who are not exactly on the cutting edge of the information age, and probably have never heard of Jeff Tedford. still get their information from the Athletic Department, the Det News and Free Press.

These boosters don't know that Zoltan is a Space Emperor, they do not know Carl Monday is, and they certainly don't know Tacopants.

I attended games with many of these guys over the years and rarely heard a negative word about Carr until this year. In short they are about three years behind the times at best, making Ferentz still shiney.

Gravatar Nachos sound good.

Gravatar 631 people... i love this shit....Brian if you go public w/ an ipo, i'll be the 1st in line.

i fully expect the same coverage when red retires, btw.

Gravatar Bend It, an average of 9-3 (Carr's record over 13 years, roughly) is excellent by any standard. In the facemask era, only Bo's run in the 1970's tops it.

It is possible that Kelly or Miles would have a better upside.(The guy from Boise State is too green... he beat OU with Hawkins' recruits, and his only exposure to a major program was at Oregon, 1995-2000) (Rodriguez is a WV native, played at WVU--he is not going anywhere). Then again, these other two are riskier choices. Miles is passionate, but everytime I have watched LSU he has done something utterly mystifying. Having never been in a major program, Kelly is an unknown quantity. (Recall that Tressel was an assistant at Syracuse, tOSU before being hired.)

But the point is that there is no perfect choice, and Ferentz is far from the worst-case scenario (DeBoard, English are clearly worse). I would like to see Miles get a shot, but I can understand why Ferentz would get the job.

Gravatar OMG, you guys bring paranoid obsession to new heights, ready to commit hara kiri because of who you speculate might be on a flight? All I can say is "Wow!" Bill Martin was at the Football Bust tonight -- all night. Unless that was a double! No, unless that was him seen at the bank closing on Kathy Miles' house in Barton Hills that she won't be needing now. Yikes! I suspect that most of you worry if there's not something to worry about.

Chill, guys. Bill & Co. know what they're doing. No way Martin is going to jeopardize the very black ink of the athletic dept. ledger by screwing up the cash cow that is Michigan football.

Gravatar The fricken search committee isn't even in place yet. I think we need to slow down these rumors as it is kind of ridiculous that UM would just jump on one guy and hire him. This is going to take awhile folks...

Tony, Martin has been working on this since the second or third week of the season. This is not jumping. He an Lloyd have talked long and hard over this and already know who they are going to hire, whether it is Kirk Ferentz or not. The rest is just window dressing.

Gravatar AND -- Kirk Ferentz had a team meeting tonight. He WAS NOT flying anywhere, or at any airport.

Gravatar Tony and all the other common sense people. You make sense. But just the thought of KF as head undertaker requires a meltdown. It would be like you telling me, "Hey, you dumbass Meeechigan Dan, there is only a 20% chance of a nuclear strike on America this week. Relax." The 20% is so unthinkably bad, that it requires a psychological destabilization to cope.

There. "Daisy, Daisy..."

Gravatar What, a Falcon? Why not a Bellanca?

Gravatar Brian, it seems MGoBlog is not displaying its fine face to several viewers. What gives?

Gravatar Ummm...nilla wafers dipped in hershey's syrup.

Gravatar Hawkeye, I am disturbed he didn't renounce the rumors at his team meeting.

Gravatar Sometimes paranoia is just having all the facts.

Gravatar brian calm down with all this ferentz talk, you yourself talked about how your credibility is on the line each time you post a rumor, you're not doin yourself any favors right now with all of this

Gravatar Meechigan Man,

I would argue that Miles is the safest choice. Our biggest problem is that Lloyd failed to hire the best and brightest and was not the tireless recruiter a Zook or Wies is. If Lloyd would have canned the DeBord experiment and Git a couple of years ago, we would be in a different set of circumstances now.

Regardless of his play calling, Miles would hire the best coaches, and from all indications he can flat out recruit. You combine that with his history with Michigan and his passion for the program, there is very little downside. Kelly may have more upside, but is a riskier bet. A coach on the down stroke of his career is a big risk.

The only true risk with Miles is that he is older than I would like at 52. He probably only has 10-15 years left in him.

Gravatar I hope my cardiologist isn't online tonight.

Gravatar Plus this is fun. In a scary, waiting-to-see-if-I-have-cancer sort of way.

Gravatar For all the people saying that this post is hurting credibility and what not...this is supposed to be funny/entertaining. Frankly, it is.

Gravatar Jason-

Don't worry I can give Miles a good workout program that would keep him in the running for 20+ years if thats what he wanted hahahha.

Gravatar You think Brian isn't calculating with a slide rule the revenue potential of 634 online visitors at his MGoBlog premium site?

Gravatar I love kraut on my fresh brat from usingers.

Gravatar @"Mangino"
Are you an OSU troll or just working on your comedy routine?

Gravatar I know I'm coaching Miami on Monday Night Football right now, but I checked this this thread at halftime. I called a flea-flicker in near hurricane like conditions. Can I please be considered for head coach?

Gravatar Hell, they should just hire Brian.

Gravatar I'm tired of playing in a second rate stadium with improvements held up by those damn hippies...I'm also tired of being third fiddle in my own state!

Get a plane out here and I'll be on it!

Gravatar Gee Ferentz is coming! Bullshit--there is not a WHISPER of it at espn.com or si.com. People, we are getting WORKED by rumor-mongering. Relax. I'm tell'n y'all IT WILL BE MILES!

Gravatar You all missed the flight coming in from Purdue....Joe Tiller, stealth candidate

Gravatar At this point, I think we all need to get in a circle, hold hands, and sing kumbaya until the morning....when the torch and pitchfork emporium reopens.

Gravatar We'll know when Miles flies in. They'll need a B52 to handle the weight of his balls.

Gravatar You guys are nuts....are we going to melt down every day we interview someone?

We will be as good with Ferentz as we will be with Miles....let this process play out.....and if you want to get rid of your tickets, I will send you my email.

Relax. Miles or Ferentz, we will never change.....we will still have odd bugaboos happen to us in the ND game.....we will still drop a bizarre game in the Big 10 season.....we will still struggle in our first road game of the season..we will still throw a lot of rock....we will still play for the Big 10 title in the OSU game.

And therein lies the rub......how do we turn around that rivalry....with Miles we get a passionate dude, who while at Okie St beat his main rival 2 of 4 times, but did not do much else; well there was that Texas game in 2004 where he lost a 35-14 halftime lead by giving up 42 unanswered 2nd half points; and at LSU, in 2006, in inarguably his team's most important game, scored 3 whole points with the #1 pick in the NFL draft as his QB; and lost a game this year because he threw rock four straight times with the game on the line.

While in Ferentz, we get a guy who many thought was the next great coach, but he clearly lost something off his fastball in recent seasons; built a rep for being the great builder of O and D line, but saw his O-line play diminish the last few seasons; he has this curious habit of losing to his in state rival as a heavy favorite; but who otherwise has the best ATS record as a favorite of any coach since 2001; runs a stodgy pro style offense that relies on execution; and if at UM will be coaching the most talent he has ever had, but a long shot.

I'm not super stoked about either. But, I do know that with either one we will be in capable hands....provided we get a new S/C coach and program.....and, of course, bring in an imaganitive offensive coordinator.

Gravatar Hillhaus, LMFAO!

Gravatar Okay, guys, I'm back from Willow Run. I saw another car there, probably Zack. If so, he had on a dark coat with yellow stripes down the sleeves--looked like a Michigan jacket. I talked with the channel 4 news crew--2 of them there. One guy had a TV camera and another was a younger guy (late 20s/early 30s) with a Michigan coat on. He said that he was an alum. He and the camera man were there b/c he read this site. Anyway, no Ferentz on that plane--just a crew swap because they were over hours. Thanks to my wife for letting you all know while I was driving back from the airport.

Gravatar At this point I want it to be Ferentz just so Brian could be right.

Gravatar Hillhaus officially has the best remark of this entire blog. Hail to you, my friend.

Gravatar The B52 comment was the best!

Gravatar I just went for it on 4th and 15 from the Steeler 31. That's good statistical strategy, right? Can I please be considered?

Gravatar Hmm, this is interesting. Mentions mgoblog indirectly, apologies if it has already been posted.

http://michigan.scout.com/a.z?s=...62&p=2& c=705578

Gravatar Carty mentions Gary Pinkel as a candidate....

Gravatar jamie, we have had this battle before...your assumption is not...in the sane world. (Trying to be nice!)

Ferentz has been a horrible coach for the last three years. With horrible recruits. That alone disqualifies his ass.

Gravatar goblue97...thanks! You are a stud. I can now sleep.

Gravatar Meeechigan Dan-

It should disqualify his ass...will it though. This is UofM we are talking about we hope it will but it probably won't lol.

Gravatar Hilarious that the author of the Scout article said bloggers reps aren't on the line like the New York Times. LMFAO.

New York Times, credible? Unbiased? Yeah right. NYT is a liberal message board.

Gravatar You people are so irrational it is ridiculous! You're like a bunch of OSU fans who found out that mullets are no longer in fashion.

There is NO WAY that KF has been offered the job yet! If Martin did that he would lose all credibility with the rest of the coaching staff (read: English). Current coaches would know if KF were in town and I doubt they'd be too excited to hear they were interviewed after the fact just so Martin could say they were considered.

Assholes...this is all I think about b/c of these f-ing rumors!!!

Gravatar goblue97, I think Brian owes you gas money, thanks for the diligence

Gravatar URGENT!!! READ

SECOND FLIGHT JUST ARRIVED TO WILLOW RUN FROM MT. KILAMANJARO

JOHN L SMITH EXPECTED TO BE ON IT

Gravatar Carty mentioned? Honestly, Carty's pomposity is outweighed only by his ignorance.

Gravatar Brian can lose his job for not being credible, newspaper dudes can. Brian creates his own ethics, newspaper dudes dont. Anyway, this page is still better than scout + rivals plus the ann arbor news.

Gravatar cant, i meant cant

Gravatar John L. Smith was on the flight...because he's the FLIGHT ATTENDANT! geesh

Gravatar F Ferentz...the Iowa guy we should hire is Chris Doyle and we should give him all the $$$ he wants to upgrade our S&C facilities...read this:

http://hawkeyesports.cstv.com/sp.../ 082907aaf.html

If I'm reading the quotes at the bottom correctly, Iowa guys IN THE NFL come back to IOWA to train with DOYLE in the offseason.

Talk about a fucking endorsement!

Gravatar Is it to late to throw my hat in the ring?

Gravatar GoBlue97 & Zack, you are flat-out troopers. It might mean little to you, but I'm going to be able to sleep tonight. Gratzi.

Gravatar The new coach I hope will kick Git's washed up ass to the curb. One plus of Capt. Kirk is that Iowa does have an awesome s&c program.

Gravatar Zack and GoBlue

Thanks guys.

Gravatar Hillhaus,

Les can't fly... Can't get through the metal detectors...

Gravatar On the Carty show, an "expert" said that Tedford and Schiano can't really be considered viable candidates because they are coming off rough years. So they probably wouldn't be considered in a coaching search of this magnitude.

Do my ears friggin' deceive me?? KF is coming off of THREE HORRIBLE HORRIBLENESS SUPPURATING PUSTULANT EXCREBLE years and he is the LEAD candidate. Moron.

Gravatar My little brother has a sweet ride. All that car washing makes me hungry.

Gravatar Jim Harbaugh's a jocksniffing traitor...sorry, I just had to get that out of my system.

Gravatar Guys,
A plane just landed with a short blond guy; said something about "that Mark May", and winning "nathonal championthips".

Gravatar Do you think Domino's delivers this late on a Monday?

Gravatar Our collective cock is flopped (to allude to my "Floppycock of the Week Award.")

Bill Martin could lock up a whole year's worth of Flaccid Trophies if this is what we think it is.

Please no.

Gravatar I need to see Ving Rhames. As in Marcellus Wallace. To tell me he's sending The Wolf over to Kirk Ferentz's hotel room.

Gravatar Just a thought to the folks who say there's no way Ferentz was on the plane...

Perhaps he was being dropped BACK in Iowa AFTER his interview in AA earlier today???

That would make the "crew change" excuse with no one exiting the plane at WR this evening more plausible.

Gravatar I like to dance when passing the time waiting for delivery drivers.

Gravatar Hey, mgobloggers, are you okay?

"Nah. Nah man. I'm pretty f*&!@ing far from okay..."

Gravatar Jason: good point. Balls of steel.

Gravatar LSU doesn't call him Les-ticles for nothing. lol.

Gravatar kudos to Brian. Even if this is not true, it sure makes for good conversation.

Gravatar Laurie, it's "snooky poo". Man, I just got OVER on those dumbasses in Ann Arbor. They bought the Ferentz stuff hook, line, and sinker. Now who's yer daddy? You know what I want you to put on tonight, don't you? That's right, the Sweatercest. I want to come home and nail me some Jim Tressel! Frigin' Martin has the guy in lockdown right now. They're gonna make him an offer! Huh? What? Laurie?? Who the hell is this? Is this a cell phone? I do not know you! Crank Call Crank Call! I'm hanging up now!

Gravatar You don't necessarily have to be blessed with big gnads to be a successful college coach.

Gravatar From 2001 to 2005:

Iowa 45-17
Michigan 44-18

Which program had more talent?

Switch the coaches around? What happens to that record. Yes, the last two years have taken the shine off Ferentz. I am not wowed by this potential hire. but, c'mon he will have more talent on hand than he's ever had....but the same is true for just about every coach out there.

Maybe I am naive, but i am remain hopeful there will be many more interviews to come.....i remain intrigued by Kelley, myself.

I was real glad Sparty did not hire him.

Gravatar Is there anything ANYONE wants to think of less than Mark Mangino's gnads?

Get a grip man. I know we're all a bit out of it with all these rumors, but you're just going off the deep end...

Gravatar If Kirk Ferentz is announced new head coach I will personally hog-tie Les Miles and throw him in the trunk of an 84 Chevy and drive from Baton Rouge all the way back up to Michigan. Then I will sedate KF, tie a set of intricate ropes to his arms and head and hold a press conference where I confess my love for Buckeyes and say that MSC gave me a rimmer. From there all it takes is showing Miles the pics of him humping a gas station tranny in Pensacola and the coaching search is over.

The good news? I'm only 40 mins from Baton Rouge right now anyways.

Gravatar jamie mac,

your choice of periods to review records is very useful to your arguement. There are two issues. KF has been a failure the last three years and I'm not exactly jumping up and down with joy over our 2005 and 2007 seasons which you use in your comparison.

Gravatar Thank you Go Bleux. I for one appreciate that offer!

Gravatar Hi babe. I don't know if I'm gonna take the job, though. Man! Thank God Mary Sue Coleman got this gig, otherwise, we'd be looking for houses in Billings Montana while I coach the Montana Nose Hairs of the Semi Pro Arena B League. Can you dig this? Three good years out of 10, and I'm in for the Michigan gig! No wonder the American Auto Industry is gling broke! It's Michigan! What a country! Mary? Huh? What? Is this a cell phone? I do not know you! CRANK CALL CRANK CALL! I'm hanging up now!

Gravatar Zack and goblue97,
You guys rock! Thanks for taking one for the team here.

Gravatar In re: the issue brought up about Mark Mangino's balls--do you think they have a moustache and eat pizza?

Gravatar So, when's the punch line?

Gravatar Dance puppets, dance.

Gravatar Chicken in a Bisket, yum, A tasty late night treat.

Gravatar Kirk Ferentz in a Weekend At Bernie's reenactment involving sexual favors to MSC actually just made me give myself paper cuts on my eyeballs with my UofM diploma

Gravatar Chicken in a Bisket dipped in warm butter. Heaven, boys. Pure Heaven.

Gravatar jamie, serious question in the midst of the Magino jokes and brass balls comments: Is it not logical to conclude that Ferentz is not a good recruiter?

Leveraging those three good years of his career, he turned in some of the worst recruiting performances ever seen at Iowa. And Iowa is no tougher to recruit to than...well, look at the top 25. In bold are places just as hard or harder to recruit to than Iowa:

1. Missouri 11-1
2. West Virginia 10-1

3. Ohio State 11-1
4. Georgia 10-2
5. Kansas 11-1
6. Virginia Tech 10-2
7. LSU 10-2
8. USC 9-2
9. Oklahoma 10-2
10. Florida 9-3
11. Boston College 10-2
12. Hawaii 11-0
13. Arizona State 9-2
14. Tennessee 9-3
15. Illinois 9-3
16. Clemson 9-3
17. Oregon 8-3
18. Wisconsin 9-3
19. BYU 9-2

20. Texas 9-3
21. South Florida 9-3
22. Virginia 9-3
23. Cincinnati 9-3
24. Auburn 8-4
25. Boise State 10-2

It is very, very likely that his recruiting will be worse than Lloyd Carr's, who was an excellent recruiter. Put another way, it is unlikely he will even maintain the current recruiting success.

That and his utterly inconceivably excruciatingly horrid offense gameplanning makes him NUCLEAR WASTE.

Gravatar Puppets? Hehe. Silly Hawkeyes. Scoreboard, I say. Scoreboard.

Gravatar why do y'all want Miles. He consistently loses twice a yr with the best talent on Earth. He can't even wear a hat correctly for God's sake

Gravatar I just went for it on a 4th & 11. How about my 'nads?

Gravatar I pray for priapism so I can find it when I need to use the restroom.

Gravatar Man, this is entertaining. Am I the only one kind of enjoying this?

Gravatar Dan - lets take another stab at which of those schools are REALLY tougher to recruit at than IA.

I agree with Mizzou, KS and Boise State.

Other places have combination of warm weather, decent city or SOME reasonable factors on which to draw. NOT IOWA.

Gravatar @"Mangino"

I fucking hate chicken in a bisket.

Gravatar Mark Mangino is killing me! Actually the championthips comment put me over the edge.

Gravatar Yeah, Miles is a shitty coach...

In his first season as coach LSU won the 2005 SEC Western Division title with a 10-1 regular season record -- including wins over #15 Arizona State (9/10/05), #11 Florida (10/15/05), #16 Auburn (10/22/05) and #4 Alabama (11/12/05). LSU's only regular season loss was an upset at home to #10 Tennessee (9/26/05). In the Tennessee game, after building a 21-0 lead at halftime, the Tigers failed to score another touchdown and lost to UT 30-27 in overtime. In the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta, Georgia, the #3-ranked LSU Tigers, though favored, lost to #13 Georgia 34-14. LSU recovered to win the 2005 Peach Bowl with a 40-3 romp of the #9-ranked Miami Hurricanes. Miles finished his first season at LSU with an 11-2 record, a #6 ranking in the USA Today Coaches Poll, and a #5 ranking in the AP Poll.

In 2006, LSU finished the regular season with ten wins (10-2), and ended the season with six straight wins. 2006 marked the first time in LSU history that the Tigers finished with back-to-back 10-win seasons. Miles was able to do this in spite of his team playing its four toughest games on the road. All four games were against teams ranked in the top eight when the game took place, with three of the teams in the top five (Auburn, Florida, Arkansas). LSU split those four games, losing to Auburn and Florida, but beating Tennessee and Arkansas. LSU did not win the SEC West title, finishing one game behind Arkansas. However, the Tigers were ranked ahead of Arkansas at the end of the regular season, and were rewarded with an invitation to face Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl where they defeated the Irish 41-14. LSU finished the 2006 season ranked #3 overall in both the AP and ESPN polls.

In 2007, Miles gained national attention due to numerous unconventional play calls during nationally televised games. LSU won the 2007 SEC Western Division title and was ranked #1 twice during the regular season. LSU lost its final regular season game at home to unranked Arkansas 50-48 in triple-overtime and lost its #1 ranking.

Gravatar And KS and Mizzou were only on there because of their poor FB reputations. I revoke Mizzou from my list.

Gravatar Why do you need more confirmation aside from his balls of steel...But seriously...

How many times must we really go over the reasons why we think Miles would be good for this school??

Gravatar Anyone know what time Dunkin Donuts opens up?

Gravatar Hawkeyes:

39-10-4 all-time

Gravatar Ctophfranko,

Because he only loses twice a year and the teams that beat him are a hell of a lot better than App State 2007, Purdue 1996 2000, Northwestern 1995 1996 2000, UCLA, Oregon 2003, Washington 2001, ND 2005, Minn 2005, Wisco 2005 2007. All of the afforementioned teams were far worse than the opposing Michigan team.

Gravatar Les Miles' balls wear mocknecks too.

Gravatar Why do we want Miles?

I, for one, want some excitement in M football

Gravatar Jason,

I am not trying to prove a point. Just hope to quell the suicide watch y'all are on because of a possible plane ride. In 2005, Iowa and UM had the same record.....KF achieving equality with UM with far lesser talent.

I have said the last two years have slowed my and a lot of other's roll on how good KF is.....yet, i still think he is an upgrade from our current coaching staff.....more so w/ new S/C conditioning program.

I dont understand the all out love fest for Les while hating all other candidates that some people have.

People have said no Kelley beccause MSU passed on him; people have said no to R Rod because they dont like his personality; people have said no to tedford because of how this season has gone; people have said ; people have said no to Spurrier (who LSU will hire if we take Les) because he is not our style; and i could go on and on and on.

Every sunday I think about all the good coaches i watched the day before and wonder how all of them would do at UM.....i just want a true search.....hiring Ferentz this week, this fast would tick me off to, so we are in agreement....but, in the end, there are plenty of positives to it if done the right way (did I say new S/C, alreayd), and i will be stoked for 2008 and Utah.

Gravatar Mark Mangino: true, but gloriously endowed gnads are way better than sweater vests if you have to choose a defining physical characteristic.

Gravatar Small gnads = less chafing issues in my Toughskins.

Gravatar What if this guy really was Mark Mangino?

Gravatar Come on, pz. Hawaii? Wisconsin? BYU? Boston College - who the f wants to play in Boston who has any talent? South Florida? Is that even a college? Cincinnati?

Whatever the particulars, the point is valid: Ferentz is not recruiting to football wasteland. That had Fry, a strong tradition, a good university, near enough to Chicagoland and other Metro areas. Please. Ferentz is a horrid recruiter.

Here's his current class (his top recruit is his son, for chrissake):

Ferentz SUCKS AT RECRUITING. DOES THE WORLD UNDERSTAND THIS?

Gravatar Miles has more talent at LSU than he'll ever have at Michigan. Ferentz has far less talent at Iowa than he'd have here.

That ain't dispositive, but it's worth considering.

Gravatar I just flew in from Cedar Rapids Iowa and boy are my arms tired.

Gravatar didn't even know about this blog until a week ago. this is the most fun i've had with anything pertaining to michigan football in 5 years. seriously, please no ferentz. more mangino jokes. please. more.

Gravatar Once Mangino's balls descend, he'll be the size of Lou Holtz.

Gravatar Mangino,

(1) Thanks for adding brilliance to this already-hilarious message board

(2) Just where in the Quad Cities do you live? Happy Joe's, Rudy's Tacos, Genesis...

Gravatar Michigan has talent like LSU it is just never fully utilized to it's potential. With Miles here it could be...

Gravatar jamie mac,

I'd get jacked up for Kelly.

RRod would be fine on the field, but given his williness to bring in guys like Pacman Jones and Noel Devine (spl?), he scares me from an Alabama-probation stand point.

Tedford would be great for Xs and Os, and if I can get comfortable that his team won't quit on him, I'm fine there too.

In all honesty, I think that the football team would enjoy the most success if we could pry Stoops or Meyer out of their current situations. Unlikely, but both get the job done every year. (With Meyer, I'd hate to see Mallett runthe ball very often though.)

Just get me a guy who can recruit and hire great coordinators (and an S/C)and let the chips fall where they may.

Gravatar "Ferentz has far less talent at Iowa than he'd have here."

Is this not a clue? What is to say he maintains the talent level here (which could use a slight boost)?

Gravatar Come on, pz. Hawaii? Wisconsin? BYU? Boston College - who the f wants to play in Boston who has any talent? South Florida? Is that even a college? Cincinnati?

--

HI = ITS IN HAWAII

WI = Madison is a great town - WAY better than Iowa, close to Chicago.

BYU = big draw for Mormons. All of their 26-year-olds clean up out there.

BC = Boston, and a cool school overall - plus there are VERY FEW cool places to play on the east coast, and I'm not counting Rutgers, ever.

USF = lets in guys who didn't get into FSU, UF, Miami + warm weather. Does it have to be a college for those guys?

Cincinnati = 10 years behind everywhere else in the world, but some people like that, and its probably still a few ahead of IA.

Gravatar I don't know if anyone already posted this because I only made it half way through before this message. But, the poster about Hermelin was correct:

http://www.dleg.state.mi.us/bcs_...& page_name=corp

And, Hermelin is also on the board of the Umich Children's Hospital.

http://www.bus.umich.edu/AlumniC...rs/ Hermelin.htm

Not so coincidental is it?

Gravatar And for the record, Dan, Ferentz can suck it - I just didn't like your particular argument there.

Gravatar What is to say Miles maintains his talent level when he's not in such a fertile recruiting base and doesn't also have Nick Saban's juniors and seniors? Glenn Dorseys and Early Doucets don't exactly grow on trees inside the state of Michigan.

Gravatar Anyone ever spread Boetje's all over a deep fried twinkie? One word: pure bliss.

Gravatar Turns out Michigan recruits out of state. Stonum from Texas. McGuffie from Texas. Arrington (or is it manningham) is from PA. And Jamison is a Glen Dorsey with a shitty S&C coach.

Meechigan Dan:

Reading how Ferentz is getting his ass kicked by Brewski made me cry. I'm about to sob with the fact that Michigan will be totally mediocre with Ferentz.

Gravatar Mangino - your homepages are what make the jokes work. Amazing work.

Dan - who's your guy? Kelly?

Gravatar At least no one is calling me "mangina" this year...

Gravatar Miles put up one of the best recruiting classes last year - 22 players of four stars or better - and has consistently recruited at the level established by Saban.

Gravatar pz, we agree to disagree. Ferentz cannot recruit.

Gravatar In order:

Miles
Peterson
Grobe

That's it, cause we could get either. Anything else is just failure IMO.

Gravatar Meeechigan Dan-

I think you and I are the only pro Miles people here anymore lol. How many times must we explain why we think he would be good for Michigan? Get ready for a long run until the coach is announced lol.

Gravatar No - I AGREE with you; Ferentz sucks.

IA is, though, a horrible place to try to do it. Frankly, the twin cities are more attractive, and the school is better than IA, even though the program is markedly more horrible.

Gravatar I think Kirk Ferentz's offense is very innovative.

Gravatar I like Miles as detailed here: http://www.logictimes.com/Blue/W...y-Les- Miles.htm

I like Kelly, too, but I think Michigan is afraid of that murder case fiasco.

Gravatar I'm not sure how I feel about Peterson. I live in Boise and have been anti-BSU for awhile now. I would never hear the end of it from my coworkers.

Gravatar I am formerly "Brian Kelly has less miles." Yes, the play on this got worn out quickly but in my defense I was out there early in the season.

Unfortunately this thread and the past couple of days worth of KF rumors have been pretty bush league. I'd expect a little more from my heroes Brian, Bend It and Meeechigan Dan. However, the roasting of Magnus the Mediocre One is ALWAYS, ALWAYS appreciated. I will blame him and his Lloyd-loving followers for any hire that is not Brian Kelly, Steve Spurrier, Urban Meyer, Chris Peterson, Les Miles, Rich Rodriguez, Greg Schiano, or Chuck Martin (in that order). Any one of these guys gives us some hope for a better day.

We're not going to hire Kirk Ferentz. The backlash would be too great. Besides, when was the last time a respectable guy coached two teams in the same conference? Or made a direct jump from one conference team to another? It does not happen. Trust me, I've been right all season long, about everything. :) And I also love Drew Sharp - best writer in America. (BTW, Dennis Erickson is not respectable either.)

Gravatar AAB,

Michigan gets talent (assuming the annual recruiting class rankings are remotely accurate -- a big assumption I'll admit) and this is with a coach who has lost his will to fight. Lloyd knew 12 months ago he didn't have it in him any longer. That was the basis for all of the stories about him deciding to come back for one more go at the urging of Bo and Martin.

Recruiting must be the ultimate grind. Dealing with 18 year olds who think they're the second coming is something I couldn't fathom. Guys like Zook, Wies and Miles have demonstrated a willing ness to go through the effort and countless failures to bring in top 5 classes. (I am not putting out a vote for Zook and Wies, but the guys can recruit, generally at the expense of Iowa and KF.)

Look at Michigan's recruiting class from last year. We land the #2 QB prospect, but end up around #10. A highly ranked QB generally puts the class in the top 5. It tells you a lot about the rest of the class other than Warren.

We are falling well behind OSU when it comes to recruiting and developing players. We can't take a coach who is weak in either of those areas. KF is very weak in one - recruiting.

Gravatar Look at what Miles has to work with. In 2008, Louisiana has 10 4 stars, which is actually a bad year for them. In 2007, 2 5 stars and 14 4 stars. In 2006, 1 5 star and 10 4 stars. In 2005, Louisiana had Perrilloux, Nic Harris, Beckwith, and Al jones. In 2004, it had Doucet, Dorsey, Ryan Miller, Favorite, Steltz, Tyson Jackson and Jacob Hester. Almost all of the top ranked kids in Louisiana stay in state. It's hard not to be an awesome recruiter at LSU. People talk about Michigan recruiting itself, but that doesn't even begin to approach what a school like LSU does, simply because of geography.

Gravatar 1)Has all those here who don't have the balls to commit seppuku thought about what team they will defect to?

I am thinking going to the fighting zookers. Dude makes crazy looks on the sidelines, true. And they took away the chief, which also sucks. But they were my team as a wee lad, so I guess it only right to go back to the days of my youth...

2) OMG this may be the funniest thread on here ever. I read the whole thing.

3) "I used to laugh and mock the apologists who said I would be sorry when Lloyd retired and realize how good I had it with him as coach.
Looks like they were right.
Bend It Like Gingell | 11.26.07"

Although I don't count myself an apologist, I knew there were all kinds of ways for UM to mess this up, and all just waiting to happen

Gravatar I could really go for a Cardiac Sandwich right now. With a side of chips. Make that two sides. And the cookies, can't forget the cookies. Anyone know if Waterfront is open?

Gravatar Funny from MDan's article...

"Callahan, in hopes of squeezing another four-star into the locker room, whacked this program quicker than a Vernon Gholston sack."

Gravatar I guess if you seek a clone of Carr, wouldn't that be Miles from the standpoint of underacheiving with superior talent?

Gravatar Just the mere thought of Michigan hiring Ferentz has me thinking

F**k
F**k
F**k
F**k

I just can't come up with any other word to describe how I'd feel about a Ferentz hire. I just can't.

Brian had better be wrong about this, or I'd better be wrong about this motherf**ker. I don't think I can take ten more years of 3 and 4 losses every year.

Gravatar @Stagg
I almost spit Colt 45 on my floor because of you, thanks.

Gravatar I am pro-Miles, too (not because of my moniker, although it will become appropos if he's hired).

Gravatar Can anyone recommend a good loofah for a guy that has trouble reaching his undercarriage?

Gravatar AAB, you are wrong. I documented that Michigan for all available data from Rivals, ourrecruits EVERY SEC school:

http://www.logictimes.com/Blue/R...ng- Surprise.htm

http://www.logictimes.com/Blue/ R...Ruminations.htm

Gravatar How the crap did you find a "loofah by the inch" website?!?!

Gravatar Mmmm, pork rinds dipped in peanut butter.

Gravatar AAB:

You really think Early Doucet is head and shoulders above Manningham or Arrington?

Seriously?

Gravatar I am totally pro-miles and have been from the beginning...

The way I figure a former OL from UM is the only type of michigan man who can fix the squishy soft center we developed.

His great records at OSU and LSU are just icing on the cake.

Gravatar Anyone know how to a protein stain out of cotton?

Gravatar Hat-

I had figured by your name lol. Glad to hear more people on here are for him though.

And Mangino stop with the loofa comments I'm going to wake everyone in the house up I'm laughing so hard.

Gravatar @Astroturf

I never said Lloyd Carr was a poor recruiter. I think he's a great recruiter, specifically because I don't think Michigan recruits itself. The paucity of instate talent means that Carr had to to go places like California, Texas, Ohio and Pennsylvania every single year to get the talent to compete with the best of the country. I think he's one of the better recruiters in the business.

My point is that I'm not sold on Miles' recruiting, specifically because he's in such a talent-rich environment to begin with that recruiting really does sell itself. And because recruiting at Michigan is difficult, I think it's a huge requirement for the job.

I'm not sold on Ferentz by the way. I'm just strongly anti-Les Miles.

Gravatar But Michigan is supposed to throw rock, right? Why are they going to the air? LOL

It's a decoy. They sent a limo to pick up the coach they really want.

Gravatar Anyone know how to get a protein stain out of cotton?

Gravatar Mark-

I think I can help you out. Send me an email at rfriedgen@maryland.edu

Gravatar Brian Kelly is not a thug said:
Besides, when was the last time a respectable guy coached two teams in the same conference? Or made a direct jump from one conference team to another? It does not happen.

For the record, Tom O'Brien just switched from Boston College to NC State, teams both belonging to the ACC. Whether O'Brien is a "respectable" guy or whether it was a good idea is up to others. For the record, I think it was a stupid move by O'Brien and NC State, and I don't think it's going to work out for either one of them.

Gravatar Holy Christ,

Miami & Pittsburgh just REVOLUTIONIZED offensive football with this final score:

3-0 Pitt.

More proof of my contention that 90% of the NFL is unwatchable.

Gravatar @bluewolverine-no I don't, but Manningham and Arrington didn't come from the state of Michigan, and players like them rarely do. Players like Doucet come from the state of Louisiana at a rate of about 5 a year.

Gravatar OK, Mangino, those are hilarious. Someone said it, those links make the jokes!

Gravatar @00goblue00

I think there is still plenty of (fanatical) Les Miles support to go around. We need someone to whip Mallet into shape mentally.

Gravatar Having short arms ain't all it's cracked up to be.

Gravatar GingellBrabbsShowdown-

Glad to hear it! I can understand why people think Ferentz is a horrible hire, I just can't understand why people equate Les Miles to that as well. Maybe I am biased but hiring Miles WOULD NOT be a mistake.

Gravatar \Miami & Pittsburgh just REVOLUTIONIZED offensive football with this final score:

3-0 Pitt.
//

GIVE MIKE TOMLIN A CALL AT ONCE.

Gravatar Mangino is a comedy goldmine.

Carry on.

Gravatar @ bluewolverine.. i agree wholeheartedly.. the nfl pales in comparison to the college game.

Gravatar All hail the Mangenius.

Gravatar Well, thanks to goblue97 and Zack, I am going to sleep.

Gravatar MDan: According to Rivals, Iowa's last three recruiting classes were #11, #40 and #27.....they redshirt a ton at Iowa, so much of that #11 class will be juniors next year......it ought to be a make it or break it year as far KF getting Iowa back in that groove he once had them in....remember Alvarez had great early success, dipped, and came back to the head of the league again where he remained a contender until he quit.

As for the teams you had in bold: Mizz, KU, Hawaii, ASU, USF and Cincy are, to this point, one-year wonders....can they maintain....Mizz and KU are having magical, once in generation-type seasons for their schools.....BC is having a tad more success than usual and have a great QB.....Boise and BYU rack up wins and dominate lesser leagues, thats why they are even close to being ranked.

As for WVA, um, i say bring R Rod up here.....dreaming of a White, Slaton, Swet, Devine type of backfield leaves me, well, lets not go there :)

Most of those teams have QB's I would have dumped Henne for in a second....dont discount that.....are we going to change and get dual threat QBs.....maybe, maybe not....but i want a new coach who is beyond open to that.

Although, I would not mind if UM interviewed the coaches in all those teams you had in bold and even the ones not in bold.

Chew on this vis a vis Ferentz and the above Alvarez comparison.....lets say UM decided after 1996, in a radical move by their standards, says to Lloyd we need a new direction even after upsetting OSU for the 2nd straight year.....they get Alaverez who had dippped after getting to the RB in 1994....how would UM been over the next decade....i kinda think its comparable to going after KF right now.....Alvarez at UM would have exceeded by far what he did at Wisco and I think KF would do the same.

Look, I mostly agree with you on Miles, except I dont think for a second our offense is going to be radically different with either Les or KF.....we'd go for it a lot on fourth down, that much is true...if we want a new offensive direction, we go w/ Tedford, Kelley or R Rod...KF would have a lot more talent at his disposal, while Les would have, well, less, but not much less.....sounds like either one would totally improve our S/C and that I like......plus when I close my eyes and listen to Les, he sounds like BO, and I get all weepy.

Sorry if i am sounding like a KF backer, its just that all you reasonable people are freaking out about this, and it bugs me that I am not...so, I guess I am just confused.

Gravatar I knew if I stayed the course it would come back sooner or later.

Gravatar Why would an airline hire another company's charter airplane to move their crew from one state to another?

Gravatar Did someone say late night lobster bites and butter?

Gravatar Hey, before bed, look who just took two of Ferentz's best recruits (though they are actually crappy - but good Ferentz recruits = MAC recruits = crappy Minnesota recruits = super crappy MSU recruits = all time crappy UofM recruits):

http://www.blackheartgoldpants.c...11/26/204610/ 11

Gravatar @Jamie Mac

I really like your posts and point of view - please keep it up.

Gravatar How do the commenters know no one but flight crew got off the plane? Are they sure they were at the correct ramp -- Willow Run is kind of sprawling. They would have to have seen the plane land and come in and everyone get off for this to really be dead in the water (assuming Ferentz would have too much dignity to crouch in the cabin until the news crews disappeared).

I don't know why a charter line would fly a crew out to Cedar Rapids to keep a schedule, either.

Gravatar @Mangino

The lobster bites suck - do not get them.

Gravatar I have no idea how he does it, but Zook can recruit. How does he get Benn to go to a program like illinois?

Gravatar You guys are the biggest bunch of losers.

Gravatar jamie, that was rational. I hope that - IF KF is hired - I am so wrong that I will be unable to post again without being ridiculed into tears. But I truly think he lacks what it takes to kick our recruiting up a notch and I know that his offensive philosophy MAKES MY TEETH HURT. I CAN'T TAKE ANOTHER 15 YEARS OF RUN, RUN, PASS, PUNT. I CAN'T. I CAN'T. OH, GOD, IT HURTS. IT...

I'm afraid.

Gravatar I love you guys

Gravatar @ iowahawkeyess

We may be losers but at least we have enough class not to go to other team's message boards and talk shit.

Try not to get lost in a cornfield...

Gravatar @Jason

you wanna know how Zooker gets the big name recruits?

-

$.

Gravatar Iowahawkeyess thinks we are losers because he made up a rumor that might actually be semi factual now. He doesn't know what to do with himself.

Gravatar I found my brat in between the cushions. Time to spread some more grape jelly on it and I am going to wash it down with a can of quality while lying in bed.

Good night, fellas. The Grand Slam deal starts at 6 am.

Gravatar jamie mac:

This is mostly a nitpick because I have been enjoying Hawaii's fun ass brand of football the past few years, but they are much better than they have been historically. Yes I know their competition is weak.

Hawai'i was 0-12 in 1998 and June Jones took them to 9-4 and a share of the WAC Championship in 1999. Jones has gone 75-40 in his time at Hawai'i for a 0.652 winning percentage - a little better than Georgia all-time.

Hawai'i was a 0.552 pct team before Jones, that's about as good as Tulsa and Toledo.

Gravatar @iowahawkeyess

whats the extra "s" for?

Gravatar You guys are gonna get passed up by a lot of coaches for the following reasons:

1. There are LOTS of other jobs opening up.

2. Your fanbase is a bunch of losers.

3. You don't pay top dollar and will get out bid for other top coaches.

4. Ohio State is a monster compared to you midgets.

Gravatar MDan, Jason, and all else.......I have been looking forward to an open coaching search for a few years........i am disappointed in the haste of this apparent ferentz thing.....before we all turn in for the night, I just want to say that I cant get too livid about it because what can I really do....i watch a ton of college football, and I can recongnize the positives of Ferentz, so i am focusing on that....as i will for all the others I hope we interview....thats just my nature.......but trust me, we are all closer to agreement on things than you think.....I am still going to be there for Utah, even if I have never heard of the coach.....i just dont want people to think I am leading the KF for coach club......i did not really think he was a serious candidate until 24 hours ago......I wanted to soothe you guys in case it happened.....i will stop, unless he actually gets hired....then I will continue where I left off here.

Someone earlier said they just discovered this blog about a week ago and have never had as much fun following the team......I discovered this in the wake of the Year of Infinite Pain, and I agree.....I feel so much more connected and into UM football than ever before.....never thought that could happen.....of course, Brian is behind it.....but all of you fellow posters keep me coming back as well....thanks to all of you.....now I am off to bed, and we'll continue this melt down tomorrow.....hopefully it will get me through another dreary work day.

P.S. Hockey. Looks. Great.

Gravatar this comments in this thread kind of reminds me of war movies...

the part where they are surrounded and massively outnumbered and getting torn to bits... and yet they are all in hysterics laughing their asses off.

Gravatar The site issues are probably due to Brian working on the new hawkeyelounge theme.

Gravatar lawlz: has anybody checked the mary sue wikipedia article?

"It is rumored that Mary Sue Coleman currently favors Kirk Ferentz as the man to be hired as head coach of Michigan football. If this is true, Coleman should be held at last partially responsible for the inevitable demise of Michigan football, if Ferentz is hired."

Gravatar There are two possibilities:

1) "iowahawkeyess" is a seventh-level meta-reference to a poster who believed he started these rumors, but is not him;

2) it's the same guy, and he doesn't realize that the tip he ran with (and which went nowhere, even in the blogosphere) has no connection to reality, but he wants the attention anyway.

I hope it's 1, because then I can appreciate the reference. #2 still wants the money, Lebovski.

Gravatar @Dan

2+2=4
2+2=3.456
2+2=?
2+2=?

Gravatar All, but especially Mangino:

Great yucks tonight. Maybe graveyard humor, but it's the best around with the writers' strike on. Group hug, everyone!

Gravatar Here's my hunch: "iowahawkeyess" is actually Kirk Ferentz and he's having a blast at our expense.

Just a hunch.

Gravatar @ iowahawkeyess

If UM is a midget compared to OSU what does that make Iowa?

Gravatar Jim Harbaugh Scramble: Thanks for the kind words. Feeling is mutual. Wish we still had someone scrambling like you in our backfield.

MDan: Trust me, I dont want KF as our coach either....really, I dont....but it is what it is if it happens.....i wonder if we're just preparing for Plan B in the event Les pulls a Roy Williams and cant leave his LSU kids yet....remember Roy turned down UNC before taking the job three years later....i'd rather have us turn to KF than a Matt Dougherty-type

BlueWolverine (01EECS): hawaii as a one year wonder in the sense of where they're ranked this year....w/ Brennan their system is at an all new level.....I've enjoyed them over the years as well.....nothing beats staying up late trying to win an Over bet w/ the Rainbows on your side $$$$

Gravatar @iowahawkeyes

What the hell is with your crap? Odds are tsun will get a credible coach who will continue beat the living crap out of you idiots. All of the hype for tOSU and Iowa last year resulted in pure humiliation on the field. If I was a "hawkeye" I would sit back and hope that tsun takes your friggin' joke of a coach.

Fans of the Maize and Blue, rivalry aside, I don't see you guys grabbing a coach that can't beat Tressel. KF isn't going to come in and make changes that you need, your program is in decline but it's still a college football powerhouse. Hell, let's face it, the whole big10 isn't what it was 5 years ago but teams are recruiting to change that.

I'll admit that most of the year I hate that state up north, and the team they field, but I am also realistic enough to know that so many people here are panicing over what isn't realistic.

Take a few things into consideration:

First off, what is your AD going to feel if he hires someone who's not going to beat us? You've all seen the Cooper era, you know how tOSU fan felt after they let Earl go and replaced him with John Cooper who lost ten times to tsun, I can't see that happening, hell, you already have fans selling their loyalty on ebay.

Second, why would they take a coach that Lloyd could actually beat on the field? You are supposed to be UPGRADING here.

Les Miles may be your next coach, who knows, but I think tsun needs to do like Ohio State did and find a winner from a different area. Maybe try for App States (sorry to mention the school, not trying to incite anything) HC, or someone in AA who's had a good ammount of success.

As much as I would love to see us win 10 out of the 12 meetings with you guys in the future, I don't see that happening, tsun is too proud of a program and has way too much money to hire a bad coach.

Gravatar Because I'm bored - here's an actual conversation I had with Ron Zook. I swear on my life this is true and took place at Joe's on Weed shortly after he was hired by Illinois.

Me: "What about Iowa this year? They could be solid."

Zook: "Fuck Iowa... Fuck Iowa."

Me: (silence)

He went on to call me a "blue belly" which sort of makes sense. Maize and blue are Michigan's colors. Anyway, I'm going to bed. At least we know our next coach won't be as dumb as Zook.

Gravatar jamie, indeed life will go on.

I once gave my brother a fake lottery ticket (scratch off) that you get from a novelty store as a joke (along with some real ones). He sratches a bunch of losers and then this fake one (which looks friggin' real!) and freaks out. Starts bouncing off the ceilings - he's won 10,000 dollars. Now I realize I got a problem.

I tell him it's fake and he is fucking pissed. He had really thought in his heart he won 10,000 dollars.

I felt like I hit the lottery when Lloyd Carr retired. My heart would fibrillate at the thought of a dynamic, gutsy football mind leveraging the peerless Michigan tradition into a powerhouse that would sit atop the college world. I know that is possible. I know one day people could say, "Shit, Michigan gets all the talent, all the five stars, of course they win a NC every couple years. Who wouldn't?"

We are unique. We have are the greatest cold weather recruiting dynasty in football, out-recruiting every SEC team this millenium. With Lloyd Carr, a good man but uninspiring, at the helm. What possibilities awaited!

Ferentz would suck all the life out of this football lottery and crash me back to earth, the dream snuffed out. And Brian wouldn't be this far out with all this if it wasn't a real, real threat.

While we fiddle, Rome burns...in the form of Ohio State living my dream.

Good night.

Gravatar you do realize that half of those teams ranked with less talent than Iowa do not play in the B10. Yes, I know, the B10 isn't what it used to be, but I'd still bet it's 10X harder than the WAC and MWC. It's still a lot tougher than the Big East as well. So don't give me "but look at all of these ranked teams with far less talent! This must, MUST I SAY!, mean that Ferentz sucks at recruiting." Actually, no, it doesn't indicate that at all.

Gravatar And J Mac - I second JHS's sentiment, keep it up.

Gravatar kgh, come on, that's not accurate. There is no metric by which you, a sensible person, would argue Ferentz recruits well. At times, adequate. Most other times, by any measure, not so good.

Why are we thinking of hiring that?

Gravatar Losing to Western Michigan, though, has no excuse. None. As does our loss to ASU, cept on a lesser level.

Gravatar The Carty blog post about the shady stuff that went on at Iowa, the recent rash of arrests there, and the attrition rate tell me that Martin and Lloyd are talking out of both sides of their mouths when they talk about getting a coach that won't embarrass the university. Find me stuff like that from Miles.

This is cronyism at its finest and they have lost all credibility to me. This kind of shit makes me sick and I hope there is fallout.

He's definitely a better coach than Lloyd, but not good enough to be coaching at Michigan.

Fuck this. Fuck Lloyd for miring the team in mediocrity and then playing the buddy card. Fuck Martin for letting Lloyd and MSC pick the coach.

Fuck Mediocrity.

Gravatar @oc buckeye

nice post, probably the best I've seen by a buck on this board.

Can you replace Son of Jorel as the resident buckeye?

Gravatar If they deadheaded a crew TO Cedar Rapids, best be watching for a flight headed this way tomorrow, no?

Gravatar They'll up whoever the new coaches' contract if he can win consistently. Tressel came relatively cheap originally for OSU but his contract was incentive based, now he is one of the highest paid coaches there is. Michigan isn't dumb enough to give $40 mill guaranteed like Alabama did for Saban.

Gravatar I HAVE PROPED THE CHAIR AND HUNG THE NOOSE,I'M JUST WAITING FOR THE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT AND IT'S ADIOS AMIGOS FOR MY ASS!!

Gravatar And anywho, a lot of recruiting is done by assistants, not the HC. If we're all about assistants for Miles doin the dirty work, I'd be fine with good recruiters aiding Ferentz with his supposed weaknesses.

I disagreed more with your rationalization of the idea that Ferentz isn't a good recruiter. That may be true, but using Hawaii et al's records and rankings as a measuring stick was a faulty point. He probably isn't a great recruiter, but I cannot imagine he would be horrible at UM.

Gravatar kgh10: We're all going to bed, and now you show up.....sheesh....you're in charge now...keep this conversation going as I need something else to do other than work when I get to the office tomorrow!!

MDan: I agree with your lottery analogy....I have been thinking about possible new coaches for a few years now.....because I knew one day lloyd would retire.....i could not wait for an open, national search.....thats what bugs me most about the Ferentz thing.....we should be shopping all over the place to find the next guy who will take us over the top and stop some of the underacheiving thats been going on.....i still think this is much ado about nothing.

Also, I live in Ohio too and it sucks!!! Please hockey, give me something!!

We'll continue chatting tomorrow, buddy, have a good night.

Gravatar @King ghidorah

if you do go through with the noose will you be rebuilt and return as mecha- king ghidorah?

Gravatar I compiled the data for my recruiting analysis and here is where Iowa landed from 2002 through 2006:

Iowa
Place Adjust Ave Stars
51 49 2.59
43 36 2.81
38 38 2.60
11 15 3.22
40 38 2.70

The adjustment is to remove the kicker large classes get from the services. It is a strict measure of quality. In 2007, he was 28th and this year 72nd so far.

Maybe someone can argue this is OK for Iowa. No one can argue this is a resume enhancer to move up to Michigan.

Gravatar And before all of this "Fuck Lloyd, Fuck MSC" stuff, can we stop pretending like we really know what is going on. Geez, chill out people. Stop saying stuff that is unwarranted b/c you have really, I mean really, no idea what is ACTUALLY going on. That is what rumormongering is for, but making sexual jokes about the University president and piling on a great man and coach when you don't REALLY know anything is just poor taste. It's just getting to the point where we sound like a bunch of classless morons.

Gravatar But the Magino stuff is funny.

Good night for real!

Gravatar @Anthony

Les doesn't exactly run a sparkling clean program either, I have seen reports of some of his players being arrested too. I can't remember any off hand other than with Ryan Perriloux (sp?) their backup QB, I think last year he was arrested at a casino with a fake id, and this year there was something with him and a fight at a bar, and I believe he was at one time being investigated by the FBI. I am too lazy to look up the stories but if I recall correctly in the first two incidents he was with other players who also got in some trouble, and I believe there are others. So even though Ferentz and Lloyd have issues with player arrests, so do most big time college football programs.

Gravatar haha, I'm an insomiac, sorry folks. I'm supposed to be studying for calc, but oh well, calc can wait.

Gravatar Plus I just spent the past hour or two reading all of the previous comments. I am dedicated.

Gravatar @ Jim Harbaugh Scramble

Hell no I won't return as Mecha-King Ghidorah or anything else for that matter if this shit happens to go through !!

P.S. Although after thinking about it I can always watch Godzilla flix over Michigan football...

Gravatar @kgh10
Your a procrastinating student too? Oh, how I should be working on my big spansh paper that is due Wednesday and not started. Oh well - flight tracking is más divertido

Gravatar O ya, and if I sit with word open I feel like I'm working

Gravatar For the record, I know some of you are kidding about the sexual jokes regarding Coleman, but I just think it's really stupid and disrespectful. It kinda reminds me when all of the Henne haters in the first game and a half when everyone chanted for Mallett, and then Mallett came in, sucked a lot worse, and everyone was just like "oh." I don't want us to have an "oh" moment, and we probably will (not to discredit you and your work Brian). Speculation about what is happening is fun, but some of you are taking this really too far. Have some character and be a little rational about this instead of making everything so personal.

Gravatar I'm actually turned on by the comments? Anyone wanna meet?? I'm thinking of taking the corn off the cob

Gravatar Cheesehead - Yes, procrastination is a way of life, but to the extent I do it is probably really unhealthy.

Gravatar good one "suecoleman"

Gravatar kgh-

The sexual jokes were to lighten up the mood of the board at the time. People were going ape shit on here at the possibility that Ferentz was on that plane.
I find the sexual jokes to be far less offensive than the ones of people saying we should blow up the plane, call a bomb threat, call a terrorist threat etc.

Gravatar Maybe you didn't see those though?

Gravatar Maybe MSC and Ferentz were just trying to join the "Mile High Club?"

Gravatar Hey Mark, when you get done with the deep fried oreos, could you pass me the Crisco. I don't need any more for my toast--I'm stuck in my seat and I can feel the boys linin' up down there if you know what I mean. WHOOPS! False start!

Guess I might as well just stay here. Pass the pitcher of butter, my glass is empty.

Gravatar Mile High Club? been there done that? Lee Bollinger...he has some stamina. THAT is for sure. Ferentz...ehh not so much.

Gravatar Sorry if it smells like s**t in here.

Gravatar Hey Charlie,

what you doing tonight? wanna meet up? i've got a private plane...just gotta stop in cedar rapids. Pick you up in south bend? bring the pig in a blanket

Gravatar kgh10: I remember being an insomniac student as well...long time ago.....still an insomniac, but mornings come all too fast for me now.

W/ recruiting, it all depends on what rankings you use....I swear by my annual Phil Steele magazine....i think its far and away the best pre season mag....i look forward to it every July when it hits the stands....its invaluable to my, uh, gambling habit.

Anyway, last 3 years in recruiting according to him Iowa was ranked 15, 27 and 11...each year # 4 in big ten....these are all jrs, sophs, and frosh, but Iowa redshirts almost all incoming Frosh.....so some of those guys are only beginning to see the field as upperclassmen.

UM, by comparision went #5, #4 and #9 w/ this year's class.

I think KF could recruit here, but almost anyone coming in here would have to change strategy and go after guys they would not be able to get at their current school.....can KF step up? That would be the question.

Thats why Miles is attrative because he is already competing against the best of the best in the SEC and national recruiting wars.

Good luck with that Calc.....thats, like, math, right!?!?

Gravatar Agreed on the last point, but it doesn't lessen the fact that this isn't the only thread with that stuff. At the rate in which the comments were being made about Carr, Coleman, Martin, Ferentz etc, I just thought it was really poor taste. Don't wanna sound like a party pooper, but tarnishing somebody's character and reputation b/c of an assumption is, well, Sparty-ish. Or maybe I'm just a 19 year old geezer.

Gravatar KGH,

Don't worry I'm not offended. Go Hawkeyes!

Gravatar thanks J Mac with the calc luck...I'll need it! haha

Gravatar Sorry Mary Sue. I'm still stuck in my chair, and Mark just bet me a buck that I couldn't finish this whole roasted pig in one sitting. That fat ass is gonna be $1 poorer in about an hour. Sucks to his asmar.

Gravatar I believe one thing is for certain.

This entire Wolverine community is sick and tired of being sick and tired of "M"ediocrity!

Martin/Coleman -- install a winner.

Gravatar Charlie,

A roasted chicken is easy. C'mon. I'll bet you can't down two gallons of milk though in an hour. I'd pay 5 bucks for that.

Gravatar I guess I forgot how boring cold Monday nights in Ann Arbor can be.

Gravatar I said a roasted pig you deaf twat. I can absorb a roasted chicken faster than you can say diversity.

Gravatar I wouldn't know. But I don't see it as a character tarnisher. Everyone knows the context of the comments is not serious. It's done to make people laugh at an uneasy time for us Michigan fans.

While I do find it amusing and won't deny I took part it in today I've only been reading the recent threads and posting. Just interested in keeping up with news about the coaching search and who everyone would like to see here as the new coach and getting a good laugh every now and then.

Good luck with the calc! I used to procrastinate as well, always wrote papers hours before they were due, but to me, pressure is the best motivator and the papers I always spent the least amount of time on I did the best on. I talk like I did this 10 years ago and it was really only 2 semesters ago lol. I'm coming back in Jan and am sort of not looking forward to it but oh well!

Gravatar charlie charlie,

my mistake. remember, I AM FROM iowa! A roasted pig is impressive. Which reminds me, would you dress up as police officer next time I see that whaling ass of yours?

Gravatar Dress as a police officer? I sure will. I'll have to do you with my plastic night-stick though. I haven't seen little Charlie in over a decade.

Gravatar Agreed, in fact, last Tuesday I wrote 3 papers, all right before the classes I had to turn them in for. I'll never do it again, I legitimately thought I would die. But Wednesday was nice.

As for the comments, I could tell some people weren't kidding, as they were bringing up other things they hated about Carr & Coleman (her political views, etc), and rationalizing how this maddness makes sense. But again, the jokes were made on a poor assumption, and IMO some people weren't joking, but hiding behind the real light-hearted commenters. Also, I'm not a leftist feminism supporter or anything, but sexual jokes about a woman of MSC's stature and success is an immense discredit, joke or not. That alone annoyed me.

Gravatar You guys need to just STFU and stop freaking out... there's nothing you can do besides rail, and it just makes the Michigan blog fanbase look like tools. Chill out and pop a beer.

Gravatar And buy a newspaper.

Gravatar KGH,

My stature is actually quite small. 5'4 or 5'6. So that really shouldn't have anything to do with the jokes. I guess that's what I get for being a spinner. LOL

Gravatar People are people. When you get a large group of people together to talk not everyone is going to agree with what everyone is saying. I understand where you are coming from about saying things about Mary Sue Coleman that discredit her. A lot of people don't like her I am one of those people that do not care for her but know where to draw the line.

Anyway everyone I'm going to bed. Don't miss me too much...I know it's difficult but I'll be back tomorrow :)

Gravatar That alone annoyed me.
====
So it's ok to joke about "KF's plane" crashing?

Gravatar night, 00goblue00.

Gravatar Goodnight Jason!!

Shit who am I kidding? I will probably be on here for another hour. I am addicted now hahah not just for finding out the latest but I really enjoy talking to some of you on here!

Gravatar Uh, did I say that Korea Blue?

Thanks for the responses 00goblue00, and I may just be overreacting. I guess it was just a soapbox moment, but whatever, I said it.

Gravatar This is my favorite part of Operation Dassault Falcon:
"The source in question is connected to one of the Iowa coaches; it's solid."
So we're supposed to believe that this unnamed source is more connected and solid than Iowa's AD?
http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/ ...granted_to.html

Gravatar I am in one of those boxes.

Gravatar To some it may be overreacting but to you it's what you believe in. I didn't necessarily see it as overreacting for the record.
No one holds that against you for standing firm in your beliefs they may just not agree with you but admire the fact that you don't waver on something!

Gravatar KGH-

Are you lonesome tonight? I want you, I need you, I love you. We can do a little jailhouse rock. A little less conversation and you can love me tender.

Gravatar Uh, did I say that Korea Blue?
======
No, but several commenters did. Can't blame you for not reading the whole thread.

Gravatar I just did a little look on the DetNew.com and Freep.com sites and saw no posts regarding a press conference being scheduled. I can't see Ferentz landing in AA and not getting the job. The optics of it would be terrible for Iowa.

Given that, I'm hoping that Brian actually got this one terribly (actually, beautifully wrong).

Gravatar You guys are ridiculous. Do you really think that this Ferentz to Michigan deal is even close to being done? Gary Barta (IOWA AD) said that Martin hasnt even asked for permission yet. Do you think your program is as trashy as Miami to pull a move like that? I dont.

Furthermore, you need to quit bitching about Ferentz because he would be a good move for your program. The arguments you guys make are borderline insane. "KF cant recruit at Michigan", "KF cant win at Michigan", "KF is shady and is having off the field problems". Are you people serious?

Get over yourselves here for a second and objectively look at this. Ferentz would win at Michigan, a lot. Michigan sells itself to recruits, bottom line. My retarded shih tzu could get 4 star recruits to come play in AA. I know that you think that recruiting to cold weather might be tough for you but tradition sells and Michigan sells tradition like Good Year sells tires. In Kirk Ferentz, Michigan would be getting one of the most highly regarded coaches in college. By that, I mean all around. He is a class act and he will always be one. He gave Michigan a severe beat down at the Quiet House in 2001 with a bunch of no namers with ZERO STARS.

Look up Dallas Clark and Bob Sanders on Rivals, you wont find them because nobody wanted them. Those two were and still are better than any starting TE or Safety that the Maize has produced since. Look it up, I bet your boy Lloyd Carr recruited a total of nine or more 4 and 5 star recruits at those positions since then and none of them have or ever will measure up to what those guys have done.

I almost pissed myself laughing at the comments about his off the field stuff in the Iowa program while concurrently yelling for Brian Kelley of Cincy. Look at what happened with Kelley at C. Michigan. His squad collectively murdered a guy in a bar. Yep, they are serving prison time for that one. Which guy would you rather have running the show in AA? My guess is that if your IQ is as large as the Michigan unemployment rate, you will want Ferentz over Kelley. The last thing you want is for Mich to be dubbed as the next "U".

But honestly, youre not the only great program in college football anymore. In fact, you are second best in the Big Ten year in and year out. And that is when Iowa, PSU, and Wisconsin are playing poorly. What is funniest is that you all feel that you are entitled to a NC caliber team each and every year. Guess what, Youre not. There are plenty of coaches who dont want to be put under the microscope that you are already placing on a guy who is only rumored to be your next coach by some blogger. Has Michigan football gotten this low? I mean christ, you claim to be the mecca of college football and you are worried about the AD making a hasty decision?

You should be lucky to get Kirk Ferentz but you people will run him out of town when he only wins 11 games and loses to OSU. My guess is that

Gravatar Well I appreciate your open mind. I always thought it was funny about how much crap people talk about celebrities, as if they know all about their personal lives b/c of some tabloid or media outlet of any kind (be it a blog or MSM). The fact that people go so ape shit over something that even Brian stated was a rumor, is even more amusing, and sometimes infuriating. I mean, although it is a sourced rumor, it's still a rumor. So to say crappy things about the whole clan (Ferentz, Coleman, Martin, Carr, et al), is just annoying to me. That's all it was. I'm all about a good time and jokes, but I just thought it was taken too far and being made far too personal for a completely impersonal rumor.

Gravatar Bluewolverine:

"More proof of my contention that 90% of the NFL is unwatchable."

Maybe you and I are the same person - I feel the same way and I have an EECS degree too! (Not in '01, and not from UM - from a small technical school in...never mind.)

Anyway, on Sundays I have friends who traipse to the bars to watch 14 cookie-cutter pro games that, marginally, are near-pointless. Meanwhile, I'm at home reading blogs on the amazing/exciting/ridiculous college football Saturday that just happened.

Gravatar Jason-

I think coming off of his success with breaking Lloyds retiring someone decided to dupe Brian big time. Just my theory doesn't mean it's necessarily right.

I can't believe that in less than one week Miles could go from being the front runner to being behind Kirk Ferentz. Still have the bad gut feeling but still. I dunno...something doesn't add up.

Gravatar Korea - I agree with you. I just happened to omit some of the specific crude comments about the people involved in the rumor. It's not as though I think those aren't horrible things to say, in fact, I agree with you that those comments are even worse. Das all.

Gravatar And believe it or not, I did read the whole thread...some I liked, thought were funny, some I didn't. Which is why I commented the way I did. The plane crash things were the things I was talking about when I said that we were taking this a bit too far.

Gravatar night guys. i've got plans with ole billy martin and kirky kirk fuckforrents. lol jk. but really. he gotta get paid!

Gravatar ...my guess is that Ferentz will interview for the job and they will offer it to him. He will then turn it down. In 2005 before Iowa played FLorida in the Outback Bowl (while Mich was in San An Tone for the Alamo), Chris Mortensen reported that the Packers interviewed and offered Ferentz the job. It was true. It was said to be a done deal but Ferentz wanted to stay in Iowa and turned down the Packers. I think that the GB job has a tad bit more clout than the job in AA. Just a thought but I am sure that most any football fan would agree.

Ferentz has also commented in press conferences in Iowa about how ridiculous the shit that fans give coaches in Michigan is. He referenced the PSU game from 05 where Mich beat #8 PSU when Henne hit Manningham in the end zone to win and the media gave the team a B- for the win. haha. you people are hilarious.

Gravatar Rob...Kelly's squad "collectively murdered a guy at a bar"...really? Wow, glad you know your information. Honestly, I don't think the same people who question Kirk Ferentz's cleanliness are the same people who are pimping Kelly. If they are, I would agree with you about the hypocrisy, but I never saw Ferentz as anything but a class act and nice guy. So is Lloyd, but it didn't stop him from having a lot of arrests. I don't think I'm in the minority of people who believe this, so please don't act like we all believe that Ferentz is dirty and still want Kelly.

Gravatar Right. Sourced rumor or not, the potential of Ferentz coming here concerns a lot of fans and rightfully so. With as much crap as Michigan has received this year I think people are freaking out even though it's a sourced rumor because they feel we should be moving the program up not staying the same or possibly sinking below. I agree with some, had this been three years ago the mood toward this sourced rumor might be different, but people can't help but start to feel worry when we have a big opportunity to change and there is the potential we might go with Ferentz.
I tend to be biased though, I have been pulling for Miles for awhile. :)

Gravatar Maybe Michigan can hire Rod Marinelli and then we can have that defensive linemen coach on the UM staff that drives through fast food drive thru's drunk and naked.

Gravatar Here is what scares me about KF:

From http://hawkeyesports.cstv.com/ sp...eefe_ken00.html

Ken O'Keefe is in ninth eighth season as offensive coordinator at the University of Iowa. O'Keefe is in his eighth season as Iowa's quarterbacks coach after coaching Hawkeye wide receivers in 1999.

Norm Parker is in his ninth year as defensive coordinator at the University of Iowa. He also coaches the Hawkeye linebackers. In his first three years on the Iowa staff he coached the outside linebackers.

He has the same don't change things when they aren't woring mentality as Lloyd. This is what we can't accept. This is why were are now looking up at OSU.

Gravatar I dunno kgh10. It sounded pretty clear to me that you were only complaining about the MSC jokes. Don't you care about fat people or people with awesome haircuts dying?

Gravatar And another thing. Why do female commentors always feel the need to reveal their gender?

Gravatar Korea - Well I wasn't...so there. Yeesh...I didn't think I'd have to defend the fact that I hated most of the personal insults and death wishes against Carr/Coleman/Ferentz & Co., but hey, if you're willing to put up a fight about it, I'm telling you that you thought wrong. I can't tell if you're joking or not in this instance, so I'm not going to get too riled up about your comment about me not caring about Ferentz' death wish.

00goblue00 - trust me, I'm no Ferentz supporter, but again, I just thought people were taking things too far. That's all. I have no allegiances to Ferentz or anything, but I don't know the dude and I'm certainly not going to wish ill will upon him or make personal insults against him. If there's anything I'll criticize about Ferentz, it's his coaching...and that is it. Nothing more, nothing less.

As for the speculation of Coleman and Carr's involvement, we don't really know for certain how much involvement they have...it's not like Ferentz is somebody Martin couldn't POSSIBLY consider on his own. The exaggeration that Ferentz is our top candidate is, IMO, unfounded. So to make stupid comments about how Carr is trying to ruin this program and Coleman is a slut, etc...that doesn't do anything for our coaching search. It isn't being proactive...it's being immature and irrational.

Gravatar kgh10

I know that Michigan fans are class acts as a whole, the Kelley Pimping after the Ferentz off the field comments were to easy to take a shot at.

I have been to AA and enjoyed the people as they were nothing but nice, even after we handed Michigan its worst home loss in years. Too bad Mich beats by

Gravatar Hey Rob Houghtlin, the biggest problem with KF for M fans isn't that he's classy or not classy or that we think we are entitled to a national championship - it's that the guy just lost to Western and runs a more boring and inept offense than we do, ok? This season made it painfully obvious that more of the same (or as Martin stated, "A clone of Carr") won't cut it.

Gravatar Houston Nutt resigned fron Ar-kansas.

http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/sto...492596? MSNHPHMA

Gravatar why not fly out of Ann Arbor?

Gravatar Korea Blue - I have "revealed my gender" a while back, but it was mainly because I was talking about wanting to make babies with Mike Hart, and actually posessing the ability to do it. It was in jest.

Gravatar I'm mostly joking kgh10. Where I live, there aren't too many women who preface comments with "I'm not a leftist feminism supporter or anything, but...". I almost miss it.

Gravatar Look at the Iowa roster this year and the BUM QB that played in Iowa City. He was a far cry from Drew Tate and light year behind Brad Banks. They played 31 FROSH, most of which werent highly touted. If you gave Kirk Ferentz the players that UM has, they would be ridiculous. Every five star lineman in the nation would want to come play there and the skill players will ALWAYS be there. This guy has beaten Tressel a lot more recently than Carr did. He won the same amount of B10 Titles since the 2001 run and he sure as hell didnt have the talent.

Gravatar it's that the guy just lost to Western and runs a more boring and inept offense than we do, ok?
===
Didn't Tressel just beat us with like 3 completed passes?

Gravatar I only said I was female because I said that someone should sleep with Martin and that I would do it but I didn't think my fiance would be happy. I also stated that I thought Les Miles was sexy. I figured if I didn't clarify it would be asked sooner or later so I saved everyone the trouble.

Gravatar I mean, in the same respect, a man could've said the "I'm not a leftist feminism supporter" and meant the same exact thing I meant. Maybe the fact that you know I'm a female put extra weight on that comment. lol I dunno.

Gravatar kgh10 here's the difference I'm referring to:

man: I want to have Mike Hart's babies!

woman: I'm a woman and I want to have Mike Hart's babies.

It seems to me that the gender of the first commentor would be more significant.

Gravatar Maybe the fact that you know I'm a female put extra weight on that comment.
===
Well who's fault is that? lol

Gravatar Maybe we instinctively feel the need to say because not many women post on boards and blogs? So when they do and they say something insightful, maybe they want men to know that we are just as capable of keeping up and making profound statements as they are?? I dunno.

Gravatar Mine I guess. Maybe I shouldn't have made a joke about posessing the abilities to make babies with Mike Hart. Oops, my bad.

Gravatar Rob,

I appreciate your comparison between Michigan and Iowa over the last few seasons. I don't argue that KF had a few great seasons. The fact that he has had three in a row that would cause a run on the hospital for nitro in AA is an issue.

While we have had no truly Nebraska/Callahan seasons under Carr, the general belief following the last three years, is the we are slipping. We are no longer at the top of the conference as it is becoming evident that OSU has overtaken us under Tressel. If you compared if there were favorable comparisons to Iowa under KF to OSU under Tressel since 2002, I'm very interested in that.

I'm sick and tired of talking heads like MArk May and colin cowherd (spl?) spouting off on how badly we have fallen. I believe, and I think that I speak for most other alums in saying this, is that Michigan football has an opportunity for the first time since 1968 to identify and hire the absolute best coach for the job.

At this point, if Carr wasn't the head coach, he clearly wouldn't be considered. So comparisons between what other programs have done that have not had an upward trajectory or at best only in line with what we have produced in the last few years is frankly unappealing.

After the 2005 season, I started thinking about the guys who may replace Carr. KF was on my personal list at the time. Unfortunately, the last two years have now shown well for KF.

Gravatar Actually it went more like this:

-Guy : I want to have Mike Hart's babies!

-Me: For all of you, having Mike's babies is a pipe dream, I can actually do it! muahahaha

-Everyone else: hahaha good one

-everyone moves on, other comments commense

Gravatar You still don't get it. It's not about kgh10 or 00goblue00 or any one comment. It's about every female on the internet since Windows '95 injecting gender into totally unrelated topics.

Gravatar In all seriousness...

MSC is calling the shots. Martin and Lloyd are merely executing her orders. I would not be surprised if Martin steps down next summer. Lloyd will take over the AD job on an interim basis and shepherd the department through the stadium renovations, then he would be gone also.

I think Ferentz is here 3 to 5 years tops. He knows this, and will try to get as much money out of U of M as he can. I suspect that Ferentz realizes that his star has dimmed considerably the last three years at Iowa, and he would be better off at a school with more resources so he can realize his NFL goals. Martin and Lloyd both know this, but neither of them are in charge here.

I think all the anti-Ferentz sentiment is horribly overblown. However, I just simply don't know how Ferentz can improve Michigan from where it is today, especially when an innovator like Brian Kelly is waiting in the wings. In addition, I seriously doubt Ferentz will leave an infrastructure for us to build upon when he bolts for the NFL; just look at Iowa right now, would you take O'Keefe or Parker to be your coach?

Martin simply wants to collect his check; keeps his rep; and leaves on good terms. Lloyd is looking out for DeBord, English, and the rest of his assistants. Neither one will contradict MSC at this point.

If we want to make a difference, email MSC directly with our concerns.

By the way, I would love to have Loeffler coach QBs and coordinate the Offense under Brian Kelly. He will end up as Michigan's coach some day, and we need to prepare him to succeed.

Gravatar For what it's worth Jason, Mark May has no idea what he is talking about and almost always generally finds a way to bash Michigan. Mute button is key when it comes to him!

I agree we have a great opportunity here. I hope to god we don't blow it.

With that I am really heading to bed this time. Goodnight everyone! :)

Gravatar Rob Houghtlin -- you are obnoxious but made some very good points.

When M fans worry about a coach's recruiting ability we're looking at exactly the wrong thing. Any coach coming in here will have top 10 recruiting classes. That is the least of our problems.

IMO to get the program moving in the right direction we need someone who's aggressive, intelligent, and ethical. Ferentz probably falls down on the first one.

Gravatar Then why don't you say that? And since it isn't about one comment, why is it relevant to what we're saying? Why is it relevant for a guy to talk about man-crushes?

Gravatar Korea,

I guess I like to know more about the backgrounds (including gender) of the people who I converse with. I feel that I may be better able to understand their perspective on things.

And to be honest, to know that two posters, kgh and 00goblue00, who have made many valid points are female helps dispel any preconceived notions regarding women and their passion for sports.

Gravatar i.e. Why isn't it just a crush?

Gravatar ESPN announced today that they interviewed English for the job. It doesn't make sense for them to do that if Ferrentz is already a done deal.

Gravatar Rob Houghtlin...I'm a huge Michigan fan and most of this stuff just embarrasses me. The good news is that Martin doesn't consult with this part of the fan base...and that's a damn good thing because there is no way this group could even make the right call on Pepsi or Coke at the concession stands.

Gravatar Thank you! I'm glad to know that some on here find my points to be valid!! :)

Lets try this again lol. Everytime I try to put the computer down someone posts another long comment and I feel compelled to read it....Goodnight!!

Gravatar Anon - I agree with that. I think we will recruit well regardless, and recruiting at Iowa is UNIQUE of recruiting at Michigan...so I agree that this aspect of a coach's abilities is irrelevant. I do think it is fair to discuss the "cronyism" and playing style of Ferentz though, but the recruiting thing is different.

Gravatar Why isn't it just a crush?
===
probably homophobia

Gravatar First of all, congrats to Houston Nutt. He is leaving on his own terms, away from those psychopaths in Fayetteville. He had a lot of guts to just say, "enough already." That's how I see it. He wasn't treated too well there.

I think that TAMU could be a force in the future. Sherman is a former Aggie and seems like the right hire for the school.

Anyways, cut to the chase. I think this whole KF thing might seem a lot like how OSU thought that it was getting Glen Mason in 2000. What do other people think?

Another addition to my list of Brian Kelly, Jim Grobe, Paul Johnson, and Jim Leavitt...Bobby Johnson from Vanderbilt. He's also a really good coach. Vanderbilt has been really tough this year--so tough that the Georgia players felt compelled to stomp on the school's logo. I think that these are the top 5 up-and-coming coaches in the country. 6 if you include Greg Schiano.

Tedford has the offense thing down, at least.

Gravatar UFB. 656 posts and no one has figured out that the package WENT to Iowa, and did NOT get picked up there.

And then those idiot news mannequins at Willow Run believed us when we said that our charter company would run a $3000/hour machine to Cedar Rapids and back because two guys timed out.

Gravatar UFB. 656 posts and no one has figured out that the package WENT to Iowa, and did NOT get picked up there.
===
I was wondering about that until someone posted that BM was at the bust.

Gravatar And homophobia is gender related, is it not? Actually, homosexuality is gender related, to make an understatement. If I didn't know you were a man, why would it matter if you had a "man crush." If you just say "crush", I would just assume you were either a gay man or a straight woman...either way I wouldn't know for sure. If a man says "man crush" it's a similar homophobia that women have when they say "omg Les Miles is a stud, but don't worry, I'm a female." It's the same thing. So when a man says "man crush"...they clearly felt just as obligated to reveal their gender as the female did. Homophibia, sure. Displaying identity, yeah.

Gravatar point taken. damn. ;-)

Gravatar don't you have homework you should be doing little lady?

Gravatar robbyw,

Awesome call. That is a great point that we all seem to have overlooked.

I'm worried that MSC has few qualms about ruining Michigan football. I heard that she ruined Iowa's Greek scene when she was there. There is little connection between the two but this shows that she has little concern for how fans and students feel.

Bears and worms have very little in common...until you think of gummy

Gravatar Houston Nutt was like Glenn Mason at Minnesota, prior to those guys coming their now former school they couldn't even make a bowl. I belive Nutt made one every year as did Mason. I doubt they can get a better coach.

Gravatar Jason

I know what you are saying about hiring the best coach possible but be careful what you wish for. Ferentz has been very good to Iowa and he was not a popular hire. Is he under heat in Iowa right now? Yes, only a fool would say that he isnt. If you get paid $3M you better produce. Iowa City is one of the top 20 "college towns" in America. If you dont believe it, you have never went out in the ped mall at age 20. There is no excuse that he shouldnt be getting better talent to go there.

I think that Michigan is still a top 5 job. But it depends on what the coach is looking for in a school. I honestly feel that the pressure and scrutiny that fans and Boosters place on the coach is unfair in AA. That is just my opinion. I went to Iowa and grew up there. I now live in Florida where I hear nothing but whining from FLA and FSU fans about how they deserve better than 8-4 and 9-3 seasons. No they dont and neither does anyone else.

I am not sure if Michigan can hire the right guy if that guy is not Les Miles. I dont know if they would want to go there. That is no disrespect to the program as I only wish that Iowa had half of what UM has in place. It is merely an observation regarding what Michigan pays their coaches vs. what that coach would get elsewhere under 10% of the criticism he would get at Michigan.

The landscape of CF has changed drastically from where it was 15 years ago and it is hurting programs like Michigan. Scholarships are now limited more and good players are going to places where they can play on TV and be seen. With the popularity of the game rising nationally over the last decade plus, that can be done at 35+ schools whereas 20 years ago you had 20 schools that got that exposure. Bottom line is that a good coach can get paid and win anywhere without having everything he does dissected like the HC at the U of Michigan.

Gravatar "Iowa City is one of the top 20 "college towns" in America."
===
I'm sure it is but go to the south side of Chicago and see how far that gets you with those kids.

Gravatar Korea Blue-

haha. I have to assume that you are referring to the african american population not fitting into Iowa City because of the "rural perception" of Iowa City?

Gravatar Yes, but this is much more fun. Conversing with Michigan Fans (and some others) > Derivatives (engineers, try not to laugh).

Rob - the criticism that a UM coach gets is also the amount of love he gets when he does great things. Maybe we made a lot of fuss over coach Carr, even with his resume, but most of that had to do with the recent string of OSU and Bowl losses. However, in 1997 up until prolly 2001, he was a God in AA. That's the risk you take as a coach here. Maybe it's unrealistic, but entitlement is UM fans' (or fans of any major program) middle name.

Gravatar I know that Iowa is a great college town. My best man has spent many an evening at Iowa and absolutely raves about it. His take is that it is a close second to Madison among the fun college towns of the Big Ten. (And he's a Michigan grad '94.)

Michigan clearly needs to pay more for talented coaches. We have been fortunate in that regard because Bo was old school and not a threat to leave. Moeller was promoted from within and got himself fired before he could have grown his salary. And Lloyd was never a threat to go and was promoted from within.

I would argue that the pressure at Michigan is different than it is at OSU. I don't believe that Earl BRuce or John Cooper would have been fired from Michigan, if they ran clean programs. I'm not sure that Lloyd would have survived the Maurice Clarrett (spl?) episode if it happened in AA. Michigan is more forgiving in some regards, less in others. If the next head coach has regular seasons that vary from 11-1 to 9-3, a very occassional 8-4, he will likely last a long time. Given the general state of the Big Ten and Michigan's history, this seems achievable to most Michigan fans (rightly or wrongly so).

I'm somewhat concerned that the masses will only accept Miles. I think that he would be successful, but I'm not so closed minded to think that he is the only choice.

I think that there is a subtlety to your comment on the criticism coahes receive that you may have missed. Ferentz is likely in extrememly high regarding at Iowa, much in the same way Bo is at Michigan. KF resurrected a storied program that had fallen on hard times. Ditto for Bo. Carr on the other hand was the fortunate recipient of a program that was at or near the top of the conference. Just ask Fulmer at Tenn. how this perspective changes the way fans view the coach.

Gravatar kgh,

What your major since you're up late "studying" calc?

Gravatar WelCOME. What is UP?

And this is what I'm burning on:
I'm out of AnalEeze--errr--KY Jel--errr--lube for buttho--errr nevermind. Next segment.

Good work tonight from Mark Mangino! Solid! Way to bring it, buddy. Epic stuff. Hilarious. Epic. Great to have you as a correspondant. Keep bringing it, and we'll keep having you back. Epic.

And now for my final burn:

I'm a tool. And who the fuck do I have to blow around here to get one of those slingboxes I'm always pimping to you clones?

War Les Miles' big brass ones, war mgoblog, war Blue, and war people with nothing else to do who take the bullet and drive to Willow Run. I am out!

Gravatar Biology, possibly a minor in Philo (hence my GREAT argumentative skills ;)). Gotta finish up to calc 2. After that, I'm done with the mathematics. Science = awesome. The math required for science, not so much.

As for your points about how UM is more forgiving in certain areas than they are in others, you hit the nose on the head. That is the kind of stuff that drives MDan and BILG crazy though, but I'm somewhere in between.

Gravatar nose on the head? Yes, the nose. I meant nail...but whatever. I probably need sleep.

Gravatar jamie mac -

"Good luck with that Calc.....thats, like, math, right!?!?"

No, that's like Pearl Harbor, which helped prepare us for WWII, or whatever.

Gravatar Jason, the masses will eat their vanilla ice cream and like it. They may even be allowed to vote on the next student t-shirt but they will not affect this hire.
I agree that KF is highly regarded but I think Hayden Fry was more like their Bo. Anyway, they seem to still want him, unlike LSU (fans) with Miles.

Gravatar Sleep is probably a good idea.

I've been putting off work for the better part of 12 hours. I fault Brian entirely for this. He ruined my day with the blog posts.

Gravatar I agree that Michigan isnt as cut-throat as OSU or some of the other powers. I have never had a bad experience in Michigan as the people are generally like Iowans. Whether you want to accept that or not is up to you:) Kirk Ferentz did bring Iowa back from the ashes but not as far as Hayden Fry did. The 60s and 70s at Iowa were damn bad man...i mean really bad.

However, Ferentz has a career hall pass in my eyes. We wont be a 6-6 team for too long, He is too good of a coach for that. What he did for the state in that 3 year run bought him a lot of time. He didnt forget how to coach over the last few years. I think the next two years (if he is at Iowa) will seal his fate. If Iowa bounces back in the next two years and wins again, the big jobs will be calling again.

In my mind, they dont need a lot of MAJOR changes. They need to tweek their system(s) just as Michigan has needed to do for the last few years and we will be fine. It pissed me off watching the Mich Wisc game because I felt like I was watching Iowa just repeat their mistakes over and over. I know how you guys feel man.

Gravatar KF is probably somewhere between / a little of both Bo and Carr. Fry's program had bottomed out by the time KF got on the scene.

I think that LSU fans do want Miles to stick around. They held a rally for him on Wednesday night (granted, that was before the loss to the Nutt and Hogs unit).

Gravatar In all honesty, I could live with Carr a little longer IF he brought in a new OC and S&C, and made the offense less predictable (I think we ran Zone Left to start every game but one this year).

I see KF as a younger Carr. And the primary fault in Carr I can't get around, and that I think I see in KF, in particular, the loyalty to a fault.

Gravatar I've seen more than a few comments saying we can have him. I would say they're divided at best after the Ar-Kansas game.

Gravatar Jason,

I think you hit the NAIL on the HEAD. Loyalty is a damn good thing but sometimes, loyalty and your heart will get in the way of your head. Ken O'Quiff (check spelling) should have been fired 4 years ago. He is not a good OC. Ferentz is loyal as was Carr. That is the only knock I have on the guy. I dont know if you want a guy who mispronounces an arch rivals state on National TV representing one of the most storied programs in college history though. Just a though. That would be comparable to calling O-High-O O-Hee-O. It just doesnt look good:)

Gravatar I saw that. I wonder f there is more to that which those outside of the program realize. Was it an intentional slight at the Hogs? Or was it something more concerning? Not sure.

One of the concerns I had initially with Miles was that he has never coached at a school with high academic standards. Neither OK St. or LSU are ranked in the top 125 by US News. Michigan was roughly 25, the second highest Big Ten school behind Northwestern in the mid teens. Would this limit the success he would have recruiting? Not sure.

But what makes me feel comfortable about Miles is that: He hires the best coordinators available. He has recruited well. He has a passion for Michigan. And he is a Bo disciple. I think the last three points would play out very well in recruits living rooms. And the on the field aspect is covered by point 1.

Gravatar I'm sick of Mangino and Weis getting all the love. I've won more games than either of these two.

When I come to the big house next year be sure to hide small children and small pets... better hope you have enough hot dogs too.

Lucky for the hot dog makers Weis and I won't be at the big house during the same season.

Gravatar I agree, Miles has a lot going for him, except the whole being an idiot thing. I'm not convinced 'let 'er rip' is the kind of guidance young Mallett needs.

Gravatar I have an off topic question for all of you...why in the good graces of God do NFL teams continue to kick it to Hester? WHY? I mean, don't get me wrong, I love watching him do his thing, but do they wanna give Chi-town a chance? Wow.

Gravatar A lot of truth to that statement. Mallett needs to realize that the game can't be won on every single play, but it can be lost when you want to do some back yard handoffs/laterals while getting sacked. Or the though of holding onto the ball is optional.

Now our OC on the other hand clear needs some "Let 'er rip".

Gravatar Along with "does God exist?" and "why are we here?"...that is a question I cannot answer for the life of me.

Gravatar Kicking away from someone is harder than it sounds though the Lions did a pretty good job of it a few weeks ago.

Gravatar I have no idea. The bears we awful for the majority of that game. Without those two returns, they are in no position to even dream of the comeback.

Of course, his brain dead knocking down of the punt early in the game was unexcuseable.

Gravatar Wayne Fontes and Bobby Ross are available. I just hope they don't mess up bigtime like Stanford. The Cardinal got that guy who was kicking ass at Pitt three years ago and had to fire him two years in and eat a lot of money. bodog.com has 15/2 odds Bill Cowher will be their coach!?

Gravatar I realize that I can no longer type and my inner engineer and his poor language skills are starting to seep out in my prose. Not a good sign... I've probably stayed at the office far too long...

Gravatar @Kgh

The Broncos kicked to Hester because Mike Shanahan (sp?) is a pompous prick of a coach who the game has passed by. He still thinks he can win in the late 90's with his system. However, its a lot easier to win when you have Elway and Terrell Davis than when you have cutler and some random RB. Shannan hasn't figured that out yet though.

Disclaimer - I can't stand the Broncos or Shanahan(sp?).

Gravatar Who is the leading candidate on bodog?

Gravatar @Jason

you're at the office at 3am - that's dedication to your craft.

Gravatar I hate Shanny for inspiring DeBord to install the Zone Blocking schene. Its amazing that in such a me too league, Denver is pretty much alone in utilizing that scheme... Wonder why that is...

Gravatar Shanahan looks like leather. But man, I love Hester. He's easily one of my favorite NFL players who hasn't worn the winged helmet.

Gravatar Usually I'm working... I can't really say that tonight.

I spent a number of years in banking, so the hours are second nature.

Gravatar Hester is more dangerous in the NFL than he was in college. He'd have been the first pick overall in the NFL draft if everyone knew he'd be this good.

Steve Breaston is better in the NFL than college. He is basically a threat to score everytime on a punt or kick return for the Cards. He's won two games by himself (vs. Pit, Det) this season for Arizona.

Gravatar Ahhh... I remember the many nights I stayed up procrastinating only to start my paper at 6am the morning it was due. Good times. (aside from the stress and tiredness and everything)

Korea Blue - I am female too! I thought I'd announce it for you for no particular reason. :)

I actually like knowing that their are other females out there who are just as passionate as I am about M football and love mgoblog.

Gravatar I've watched almost zero NFL football this year, but I did have the Bears/Broncos game on this sunday. I was stunned that a team so badly beaten on the field had any pray of winning on the score board.

Gravatar Yeah and doesn't Breaston look WAY bigger this year than he did in college? I dunno if it's the white pants the Cards wear, but he looks huge!

Gravatar @Kgh

if you ever played NCAA06 (with desmond on the cover) Hester was an impact player at CB for da U he was amazing - you could play him at RB and WR as well as returner and CB and when he got in the zone look out.

IMO Allie Broussard (LSU RB) was probably the best best player in that game that no one knew about. Everyone always wanted to be Texas for VY or USC for bush/lienart but Broussard was plain nasty in that game, he was always in the zone.

Gravatar The bodog.com odds were in the detnews or freep in the UM section of the sports a few days ago, probably still there. I believe Miles was leading 5/2 on those odds.

Gravatar GBS,

I assume that part of your handle is paying tribute to one of the great kickoff men michigan has had.

Brabbs became a folk hero during the Washington 2002 game to my crew that sits together at home games (me, my wife and college roommate). When he recovered the fumble on the kickoff and nearly returned it for a TD and his game winner. Instant folk hero...

Gravatar @Jason

I have a lot fonder memories of the 2002 washington game than I do of UM's trip to washington in 2001...

Gravatar lol @ gingellbrabbsshowdown. i love that handle.

Gravatar Mike Hart shot down the plane with his finger. Then he used his powers to make sure no one died. Then he stiff armed Kirk Ferentz so hard that he flew back to Iowa. At which point Mike Hart demanded the job, and received it. Press conference tomorrow. Jim Tressel resigned out of fear. Steve Spurrier applied for offensive coordinator job to "work with my hero."

Gravatar Granted, Brabbs wasn't the greatest/most accurate field goal kicker ever, but the guy made more tackles as a kicker than most guys I can recall.

Gravatar K folks, bedtime for me. nice chattin with you fine folks! Speaking of the U, the Miami/BC game is on ESPN right now if you feel like watching it.

Gravatar Kirk Ferentz's Wednesday end of the season press conference has been delayed...

Gravatar goodnight kgh10
Why would Tressel resign Homer? Hart is 0-4 vs. OSU.

Gravatar though i know the conversation has shifted, i thought that this might make you sleep better. I doubt he would risk being in breech of contract. This should put the rumors to bed as I dont think the Iowa AD is willing to lie to the state. It has been fun. Should be interesting to see who you guys land in the coming weeks.

http:// www.desmoinesregister.com...hawkeye_insider

Gravatar I just finished applying. Made sure to include specific details about my NCAA 2005-2008 glory. I think I'll get an interview.

Gravatar I knew Hester was a steal when the Bears got him in the 2nd round, late too in the 2nd, pick 57. But not so good he was threat to basically win every game by himself like he's become.

Gravatar Kirk Ferentz's Wednesday end of the season press conference has been delayed...
===
probably pending a (non)bowl announcement.

Gravatar night kgh

Gravatar @Jason

It's more that I happened to one day be pondering whether, if it came down to a game winning FG, I would choose Brabbs or Gingell.

They're both pretty terrible game-time FG kickers, but Brabbs did come through in the clutch to make a game winning FG and become a M hero for 10 minutes.

Gravatar Here are the odds on the UM from bodog.com...

http://www.freep.com/apps/ pbcs.d...ID=200771120011

Gravatar That's from November 20, before the rumored rumor of a rumor and the empty plane and everything.

Gravatar I'd take Brabbs because we could have gone LSU / Les Miles and run the fake with Brabbs plowing over guys to get to the goal line (at least folk hero Brabbs could do that).

Gravatar GingellBrabbsShowdown,

Good to have you aboard and that you love Michigan football. I'm doing a survey on female blog commenters, I'm going to need your email address and phone number to conduct an interview with you. If you don't mind dropping that stuff by my website I'll get in touch with you in the next few days.

Gravatar GBS:

PS - do you happen to live in the 650/415/408 area codes and/or be single?

Gravatar To the earlier posters in this thread, why not try optimism? The biggest surprise here isnt that KF might get chosen over Les but that the whole empire that is U of M football has lost its aura of supreme confidence. Why? Year after year Michigan will have a top draft class just based on what it means to be a Wolverine, and the prestige that one receives for being a "Michigan Man." You guys will be fine, quit freaking out!

Gravatar No, Sparty, freaking out is necessary. A stagnant coach straight from the steaming swamps of the Pre-Cambrian Era who can't recruit with the big boys coming to Ann Arbor to be overpaid by a crony administrator who knows less about football than than I know about particle physics is a cause for freaking out.

Gravatar You guys are panicking over nothing. Ferentz is currently the coach of Iowa. He's not interested in the Michigan job. He wants to be at Iowa for the rest of his life. He wants to coach his son at Iowa. He's a Hawkeye, it's the last job he's ever gonna have!

Gravatar I will really miss Lloyd Carr. He and I joined the Mile High club quite some time ago. I really enjoy the view I get while tea bagging him. He is truly a lovely man,a nice hairy chest, big hands, deep voice. His greatness will be missed by Michigan football fans. You'll soon see how much you guys had and then threw it all away. I'll be here to write about it forever.

Gravatar Annnnd I'm back at work for another day of hand wringing.

Thank You Brian, for finally bringing flight tracking into this. I knew the longer it dragged on the better we'd get. In 4 weeks when we still don't have a new coach, I bet people will be waiting at airports with digital cameras to capture surveillance photos.

And RIP Sean Taylor, a true Meast.

Gravatar Isn't there a particle physics blog you could take your pathetic hand-wringing to? As far as KF rising from Precambrian swamps, do you realize that your advocating (on your blog) a Bo disciple over a Hayden Fry disciple? Do you really think there's a significant difference in strategic philosophy here and if so, do you really think that the Bo disciple would be the more progressive of the two?

Discussions of Michigan football in the modern era have been too often dominated by the disconnect between a generally liberal student body and the conservatism of the football program. If winning was easy as coming out with six WRs and passing on every down, wouldn't every team be doing that? Doesn't it ever occur to any of you that the only that the only team that is more conservative than Michigan in the Big Ten is also the only team that has been more successful?

Gravatar was replying to dan, not dex, who doesn't strike me as a hand-wringer at all.

Gravatar I used to work for USA Jet. Most of the DA-20s are for cargo purposes. Cedar Rapids is not an unusual stop for the airline. It's much more likely that this means U-M is interviewing a shipment of tractor supplies.

Please relax.

Gravatar @KoreanBlue

Ah, ok. I'm no handwringer.

I for one welcome our new Hawkeye overlord.

Gravatar Korea:

It depends on what you mean by conservative. Tressel, or whatever methaphor or simile you guys use to describe him, does not embody someone that is conservative. Hes gone through numerous assistant coaches and changed his whole athletic staff twice since he's been at OSU. On top of that, he is willing to adapt to how football is evolving and implement QBs like Smith to run the spread.

Carr on the other hand has never fired a Michigan Man, nor has he ever recruited anything else besides a pro-style quarterback, at least to my knowledge, pardon if I sound ignorant, I dont mean it. I think the point would be to hire someone that can actually take Michigan a step ahead of OSU, instead of someone that can keep up with them.

Gravatar does the hawkeyelounge have t-shirts yet?

Gravatar By conservative, I mean Woody, three yards and a cloud of dust, Tresselball. If you go back and watch the Ten Year War, Bo used the forward pass as a weapon while Woody used it as a last resort (if at all).

Gravatar Carr on the other hand has never fired a Michigan Man
===
Huh? He basically fired both coordinators after '05.

Gravatar Basically fired or demoted....two different things. To some that would seem like not being able to take true initiative and in turn promoting mediocrity.

Gravatar I wouldn't call the NFL a demotion.

Gravatar wait...the Jets count as the NFL now?

Gravatar How do you get fired to the NFL then?

Gravatar You get called into Lloyd's office he hands two letters, one's a recommendation, the other's your resignation.

Gravatar nice one dex

Gravatar DC at Michigan to LB Coach at NYJ is kind of a lateral move anyway. I wonder what the payscale difference was. Wouldn't surprise me if good ol' Hermman was making less with the Jets.

Gravatar I dont know about that, however I can see what you mean by conservative, and I still feel that Tressel should'nt be under that category, there is more to that team than Beanie.

Gravatar Yeah, there's more. Defense, field position and Beanie. Do you not remember 2002?

Gravatar don't know about what? the move by Herrman? If that's what you meant, let me clarify. For an up and coming coach, going to the NFL in any capacity is an upward move. For a guy like Herrman, I don't think it is. I doubt he will have much opportunity for advancement in the NYJ org. or anywhere else in the League, where if he stayed DC at Michigan he might have eventually gotten a HC gig somewhere ala Debord.

Gravatar Tresselball is conservative most of the time. It's like he's fighting a guy, and boxing defensively for 10 minutes, then bam, he shivs him in the kidneys real quick and stomps on his dying face.

Conservative with touches of blood lust.

Gravatar You basically just described Mike DeBord. lol

Gravatar Bring back the hart banner. He is still a reminder of what is good in Michigan football, despite his flaws.

Gravatar @Korea Blue

Are you currently in Korea, or do you just have ties there?

Gravatar Yeah but when Debord goes for the kidneys he seems to miss and just knick the flesh. Tressel gets a nice gash in and bleeds them out quick.

Gravatar I'm here in GMT+9, it's almost Wednesday.

Gravatar Sweet, I'm planning on going there to teach in a couple months, is it awesome?

Gravatar dex:
I see your point, and Carr choosing to point him in a different direction is a lot different than actually firing him since it creates a sense of tolerability when it comes to the job.

Korea:
Yea, I remeber Mo Mo and Willis McGahee breaking his leg on that one horrific play, I think OSU got lucky. What would you call 2006 then? Ginn, Holmes, Smith, Gonzalez....I dont think that offense fit the Tresselball persona.

Gravatar Yeah, I agree, and give credit to Tressel for adapting to his personnel. But 2006 was an exception. Look back at how many games Tressel has won 10-6, 13-7, 13-3, ahem, it's not luck, it's Tresselball. Defense, field position, good kicking game, run-first offense.

Gravatar To stop Lloyd's dead hand reaching from the grave and prevent the Horror redux, sign the No Kirk Firentz petition:

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/nokf/

Gravatar Wow, I've managed to forget this year's final score already. Thank you soju gods.

Gravatar Check out the last sentence of this article, where Martin explicitly states that he hasn't been on any jets. Very convenient.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com...h.ap/ index.html

Gravatar Right back at you allmanski:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petiti...petition/yesKF/

Gravatar I think the Ferentz rumor was completely fabricated by Brian to drive up his traffic numbers.

How's that for wild, unfounded allegations?

Gravatar Rob Houghtlin,

While you make some good points, i would be remiss to point out that I have had a bounty on your head since 1985.....dont come anywhere near my hometown of Toledo.....you ruined one my favorite Michigan teams of all time.....your name causes me to shake with furious anger.....look out.

I put you in the same boat as Reggie Foggie (the genesis of our troubles w/ mobile QBs, who otherwise dont have much skill) and Chip Lohmiller.

Those were some sad days for me in -85 and '86, and Houghtlin, i am looking out for you!!! You're nothing with Vlasic at your side!!

Seriously, though, those days were before the internet, when many of these posters probably weren't even born, what kind of meltdown would ensue now if an undefeated #2 team lost a game it did not give up a TD in and then the next year the same program ranked #2 lost on senior day to an unranked team. Maybe we should have done a Fire Bo campaign then or something?!?!?!

Oh and MDan, good morning my friend....i had a dream last night that we hired Fernetz and Penn St eventually got Brian Kelly and then they beat us 9 times in a row.....scary stuff.....is there still room available at your inn?!?!?!

Gravatar I doubt that dex but he's certainly taken a 'nevermind the facts' approach.

Gravatar dex,

I had the same thought. I don't think it's true, but the fact is that Brian can't be proven wrong in this case, no matter the outcome.

Nevertheless, it would hurt him in the long run if he made stuff up.

Gravatar I was joking, btw.

Gravatar http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs...ION03/ 711270355

This guy claims the flight was a dead end? What say ye, Brian?

Gravatar Me likey the wild speculation...

but seriously, rather than a full-fledged offer --> announcement trip, couldn't this also just be a quiet interview? Why is the assumption immediately made that he's received an offer? I'm inclined to believe that Brian is on the trail of something here, but that we are speculating the bejeebus out of the specifics of what that something is...

we already know English interviewed, and DeBord is interviewing today. Not out of the realm of possibility to believe that Iowa has granted permission for Ferentz to interview here, without making it public, and that he's possibly made the trip and may interview today (or it wasn't even him on the plane, but we'll get to that later).

This set-up still meshes with Brian's reported facts - some level of back-channel, quiet contact, and a flight from Iowa - without resulting in a full-fledged, immediate offer-acceptance-hire...

Of course, the immediate hire situation also fits within these reported facts, hence the speculation/hand-wringing, but, i think we need to contemplate the fact that some interviews may be kept quiet (as this is the nature of much of this business and opposing teams fanbases may not want their coaches known as interested in work elsewhere) but that doesn't necessarily mean they are full-fledged offers...

capiche?
did that make sense?

Gravatar He says nothing, until he can think up more Mangino schtick.

Gravatar How does one fire Michigan AD Bill Martin and President Mary Coleman. Where are the Regents on this?

I'd rather see Lou Holtz or Earl Bruce as Michigan's coach.

Gravatar I bet they said dead end b/c of the wife above that said it was just a crew swap, after talking to the people getting off the plane at Willow Run. Could be false, of course, but still...

Gravatar The guy said he talked to someone on the crew. There was another guy there and a channel 4 van there too. No one saw anything. Also, Ferentz was confirmed to be at a team meeting in Iowa City, BM was confirmed to be at the football bust, and Iowa's AD has been quoted by the A2 News and Free Press denying any contact. End of story.

Gravatar http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com...h.ap/ index.html

Martin quote at the bottom.

Gravatar I should say end of rumor.

Gravatar The Sparty Truth,

It's people like you who give UM fans a bad name. OSU's defense was incredible that season, whether you want to admit it or not, and they continued that dominance in the NC game, repeatedly punching Miami's vaunted offense in the mouth. They stepped up and beat a Miami team in a game in which everyone said OSU had no chance.

Gravatar Ok, if the hire goes terribly bad, like Weis-levels, in the next 3 years...Martin might lose his job.

Like some pointed out yesterday though, it doesn't matter what happens to the team- Even if they 0-11 for 4 years, Mary Sue isn't losing her job over a football coach hire.

Gravatar @ Anonymous

Save the "fire Martin and Coleman" spiel for...you know...AFTER they make a bad decision.

Pleading for their firing before anything happens is ridiculously overreactionary and ignorant.

Gravatar "I haven't had any flights on jets, I haven't left Ann Arbor."

In my (limited) experience wth high-profile university interviews of outside candidates, meetings are held at the airport. So, this could be completely true even if things were going on.

Gravatar I believe everything is gonna be alright. I think we all wasted a lot of time the last few days (and missed productivity at work, trust me) for some douche and his rumor. Credit to iowahawkeyes though, it's creating waves...

Gravatar Someone wake me from this bad dream tell me this isn't happening...Carr is pulling the strings. Brian Kelly or Paul Johnson are the top dogs but do you think Martin has a clue?

Gravatar By the way, for all you people who were down on Henne at the beginning of the year and who said he's a poor leader, he's our QB and wasn't named captain, how pathetic, etc., etc.

Guess who won the team leadership award this year.

Chad Henne.

Gravatar There is nothing Martin can do to get fired. He is in the last years of his tenure. Even if the football hire walks on water and goes 52-0 in his first 4 years, Martin retires when the stadium is finished, if not sooner.

The football coach hire will be the capstone to his time at UofM, but the event that will mark the end of his tenure is the stadium.

Gravatar It kills me to think about what might have been if that dude didn't land on Henne's shoulder.

Gravatar I don't think anyone is going to walk on water next year with our losses on the offensive side, but yeah.

Gravatar Put a stop to the Coleman/Martin plot! Let the Regents know how you feel about this:

http://www.regents.umich.edu/abo...ut/ regents.html

Gravatar @ Korea Blue

I don't think that would have changed much. We had already lost to ASU and Oregon. We probably could have beaten Wisconsin with a healthy Henne, but beating OSU was doubtful either way. So we'd probably be 9-3 instead of 8-4.

Gravatar Just shoot yourself.

Gravatar So Just Shoot Me, I'm curious...how much do you donate to the school?

Because if it's not much, I doubt the Regents care.

Gravatar 1. It's certainly possible that a charter company would burn $10,000 of aircraft time in three hours to move two people who are paid a total of, maybe, $12K per month. It's exceedingly rare, however. The way to find out is to check if a Falcon 20 or other JetUSA aircraft flew out of Cedar Rapids last night after the subject aircraft left. Because if it didn't, this "crew swap" thing is a ruse. By this morning, last night's crew was not timed out.

2. Still, "crew swap" as explanation makes no sense unless 4 people got off the plane, does it? at YIP. Because the timed out pilots supposedly marooned in CR couldn't have flown back to KYIP. Or were they not entirely timed out? Just sorta? Unless JetUSA had another aircraft leaving on a long-haul last night from KCID, this doesn't work either.

3. Either the crew in CR was not timed out -- making the likelihood of a $10K deadhead even more remote -- or two crew went missing over the Joliet VOR.

Or, the crew that landed in KYIP is laughing at their little CIA-for-a-day ruse.

4. It's certainly possible the package was dropped in Cedar Rapids, isn't it. 800 posters assumed it was bringing someone to AA. I guess that's normal, the Ptolemaic (AA: center of solar system) presumption.

5. That Detroit News guy delights in calling the flight tracking a "dead end" -- i.e., crediting anonymous blog posters with true observations, I guess -- in the same space where he laughs at the information being presented here.

Gravatar Magnus, 9-3 would give us a share of the Big Ten championship. I think the OSU game would have had a completely different complexion too.

Gravatar Bellanca N777ML, RE #4, what is the package? BM was at the bust.

Gravatar If Martin is nearly done, and given MSC is 62, you folks have another problem: their time horizon is shorter than yours. You want to be dominant for 10-15 years; they want to retire in 36 months with their integrity intact.

Gravatar ASS. I only answered this so we could get so many post

Gravatar Sorry but Rob Houghtlinis full of it.

"Look at the Iowa roster this year and the BUM QB that played in Iowa City. He was a far cry from Drew Tate and light year behind Brad Banks. They played 31 FROSH, most of which werent highly touted."
And who's fault is this? Who brings players into the program? Even assistants who do most of the direct recruting ultimately are under the direction of the HC. It has already been mentioned on this thread many times that Iowa os a decently attractive campus. And the school is pretty reputable too (probably top half the conference at least and a decently well regarded med program).

What is the problem then? He is a good recruiter, the program had a good 3 year stretch, the campus and school are solid.... Where is the problem?

"If you gave Kirk Ferentz the players that UM has, they would be ridiculous"
Even if you are right, considering the classess Iowa has has since the 3 year run by your own admission, what kind of recruits would we be playing with in 3 years?

"Ferentz has a CAREER hall pass in my eyes."
Interesting.

"We wont be a 6-6 team for too long, He is too good of a coach for that. What he did for the state in that 3 year run bought him a lot of time. He didnt forget how to coach over the last few years. I think the next two years (if he is at Iowa) will seal his fate."
Optimism is good. So he bought himself some time - yet there is the chance he could win 1-2 games each of the next 2 seasons. (Or the chance to do well of course)

"If Iowa bounces back in the next two years and wins again, the big jobs will be calling again."
But the gild is off the lilly.

"It pissed me off watching the Mich Wisc game because I felt like I was watching Iowa just repeat their mistakes over and over. I know how you guys feel man."
This is why none of us want Ferentz to UM. You say he won't leave, many of us hope you are right.

"Ken O'Quiff (check spelling) should have been fired 4 years ago. He is not a good OC. Ferentz is loyal as was Carr."
Again.

Ferentz is a decent coach. Solid for 3 years in a row 3 years ago. But by NO means a guaranteed success in A2.

And more likely would be driven out of town in 2 years or less, leaving us with recruiting deficits and a more troublesome position to deal from.

Gravatar HC going from one conference school to another issue:

Houston Nutt just announced as new HC at Mississippi, after resigning at Arkansas. So there is modern precedent. . . .

Gravatar KB -- I don't know what the package was. A proxy for Martin? would be my guess.

But the whole crew swap trope fails a) industry practice and b) arithmetic.

From a twisted perspective, it's not even a lie.

It would have been too easy to lie and say they dropped a part off for repair at Collins or some shit. (Collins Radio is in CR, they build high end avionics panels for this class of jet.) Or say they were delivering a part. Or say they were training. But crew swaps for timed out crews, without crews getting off the plane -- that's a little weird.

I wrote about this three days ago, incidentally:

http://www.blackheartgoldpants.c...11/23/85037/ 795

Gravatar RIP Sean Taylor. Best FS in the league you were.

I understand that. I just wouldn't lose sleep over the difference between 8-4 and 9-3/half of a Big Ten championship.

Gravatar New report from NORAD. It was actually Santa's sleigh heading to Iowa to pick up little stuffed Hawkeye dolls for the stockings of all the bad little Wolverine boys and girls. He made a pee stop at Willow Run on the way, and stopped for White Castles on the way back. They aren't available at the North Pole.

Gravatar Mmmmm....White Castles.

Gravatar Oh, this is just too much fun!! I'm getting no work done, but I don't care. I hope you don't get another coach for six weeks, just for all the angst-ridden drama (and, believe me, I know about angst-ridden coaching searches)!! How long do I get to dig at my Michigan friends? How long?

Gravatar #1 on the "Disappointments" list:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/co...ht& lid=tab2pos3

Gravatar According to wikipedia, Iowa doesn't have White Castle. I doubt even the Zooker could recruit in that hole.

Gravatar No, disappointment is finding out Adriana Lima is dating Marko Jaric.

Gravatar anyone know bill martin's email address. I have yet to find it online anywhere. Thanks. GO BLUE!

Gravatar KB, Maybe MSC was on that plane, heading out for a quickie in Cedar Rapids

Gravatar Martin's email is:
idontgiveashitwhatyouthink@umich.edu

Alternatively, you can try:
wcmartin@umich.edu

Gravatar Korea,

If Henne with a healthy shoulder wasn't good enough to beat App. St., I doubt it would've helped much against OSU. I hate to say it, but the OSU-UM game that I watched was more about OSU dominating the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball way more than it was about Henne's supposed ailing shoulder. Again, I hate to say it, but this year's game against OSU was lost for the same reason the previous three were--OSU had superior talent and coaching. Your blaming those losses on bad luck or injuries is a failure to accept reality.

Gravatar Thanks MRG. My email is addressed to MCS, BM, and all the regents. hopefully someone will read it. doubtful though. GO BLUE!

Gravatar lets email les miles and tell him to save michigan football from ferentz disaster

Gravatar Here's a good message board for coaching rumors:

http://www.tigerdroppings.com/ra...efault.asp? b=40

Gravatar Can't fault you for trying DFRoweJR. This brief flirtation with Ferentz has left me shell shocked and cynical.

Gravatar I had White Castle on Sunday. It was glorious. There's not much better before embarking on a Long Island to Boston drive after a night of heavy drinking and watching BU spank Cornell at Madison Square Garden.

Gravatar Michigan is smart to enough to avoid the ire of the black coaches assoc., etc, by commencing an interview process, and interviewing Ron English first. Unlike TAMU and Ole Miss. The decision can now be made on our time table -- and don't think that Mary Sue would have allowed an offer before this got done.

http://www.kentucky.com/232/stor...ory/ 242212.html

Gravatar Anonymous, Henne's shoulder didn't play defense in the App St. game and probably did enough to win it on offense. As far as not accepting the reality of the OSU game, you might have me there. I have no memory of the last third of the game and probably wont rewatch it anytime soon. Hart looked so damn good on that drive that set up the FG though. I think Manningham dropped one inside the 10. We even threatened on Mallet's drive.

Gravatar I'll give him his second T when he completes a full game without fumbling.

Gravatar Live in a dream world Korea Blue. We were pathetic against OSU, please don;t sugar coat anything. And against Wiscy..pfft they could have very well not started HEnne, and could have game planned for MAllett, instead they got destroyed. HOw are you going to defend that!!

Again, don;t use HEnne's shoulder as a reason for the loss or HArt's hurt ankle. All losses except the Appy st one were all by big margins.

Gravatar I'm the man. Will be announced today.

Gravatar Does anyone else ever get the feeling that a portion of the OUTRAGE~!!11! over the coaching hire is because some people, deep down, think they are the best candidate for the job?

Gravatar WB Gary.

Gravatar \Guess who won the team leadership award this year.//

Not sure that's an award anyone on Michigan's football team should exactly covet this year...although based on the way the season turned out Henne's the perfect choice.

Gravatar We need Les Miles. I'll make him an offer he can't refuse.

Gravatar Ladies and Gents,

Take this for what its worth, but someone I communicate with has said its a two-horse race between KF and Les.....its Les' job if he can convince Martin that his wild days, like he was last time in Ann Arbor, are behind him and the recruiting snafu w/ him and LC was much ado about nothing.

Yes, its donors and former players for Les and LC and current athletic/coaching staff for KF.

Backups are Schiano, Pinkell and English.

There is something of a personal nature that is keeping Kelley from leaving Cincy.....i have no clue what that means.

Final decision in 7 to 10 days.

Is this more rumor mongering? Yes. But he has some sort of info pipeline and has been as right as Brian w/ injury info coming out of Fort Schembechler.

Just passing it along.....like i said take for what its worth.

Gravatar Hey gang.

Iowa's s&c coach skipped workouts today. That might happen 2x a year.

Fuhrentz told the team yesterday he would be "out of town" today.

Guess they're out recruiting, huh?

Gravatar hahah MGoBlue

I said the same thing about Les but I'd make him one he can't refuse in more ways than one lol.

Anyway...LSU fan on the rivals board commended our school for waiting until Sunday to possibly contact Les unlike Nebraska who went after Pellini. As I've stated earlier, I just can't believe that he is completely out of the running. How he can go from the front runner to barely a mention anymore is beyond me. Anyway...I thought it was nice of him to say that

Gravatar allusions to Brian abound:

http://indiana.scout.com/a.z?s=1...70&p=2& c=705578

Gravatar Jamie Mac-

I'm glad to hear that! Whether its speculation or not, thanks for the info!

You have just made my day a little better to know that Miles is still one of the front runners :)

Gravatar Jamie Mac-- perhaps you're not sure either, but do you mean to suggest that something is keeping Kelly from leaving Cinci, or something is keeping Martin from considering Kelly?

Yeah, I know, rumors and all that. Just curious.

Gravatar Here's a prospective scenario sure to make all your heads explode:

If Mizzou loses to Oklahoma in the Big 12 C-ship game, and LSU loses to Tennessee in the SEC C-ship game:

OhowIhateOhioState goes to the Sugar vs. WVa for the MNC; Illinois to the Rose vs. Pac10 champ; Michigan to the Outback vs. (drum roll, please)... LSU!

If this happens, MZone's divine inspiration beats Brian's "well placed" sources, hands down! (Note: this is not a starter for a debate about religion.)

Gravatar \HI = ITS IN HAWAII//

See, I always wondered why the Warriors weren't a bigger program. If I were young, freakishly large and/or athletically gifted, I can't think of a better place on Earth to play football for a subsidized collegiate education than Hawai'i. Surely I wsn't the only one watching "Magnum P.I." back in the '80's?

But then my wife (who actually lived there once) said that it's a vicious cycle...the best players only want to play for the biggest programs that have a proven history of sending players to the NFL...and Hawai'i doesn't have that reputation because the best players are always going to other programs.

Still, what the hell do I know? If I was good enough to play pro football I'm still convinced I'd opt to play a year in the old NFL Europe just for the experience of living overseas.

Gravatar and if LSU and Michigan meet in the Outback bowl and LSU wins then we do need Les Miles here as our new head coach. The End.

Gravatar @00goblue00

Les Miles was the front runner ONLY in the minds of the media and some fans, NEVER in Bill Martin's mind.

Gravatar Hawaii is one of those things that sounds nice, but think about the details. You are, minimum, like 8 hours from home at all times. And that's if you are from California. Every road game involves a flight across the Pacific. And I've heard the facilities are terrible. Plus, you don't play top competition. I can see why they don't clean up. Southern California and Florida offer all the same perks without the ridiculous travel and crappy schedules.

Gravatar I'd love Michigan to play and beat LSU, just to watch heads explode.

Gravatar Plus, hugely expensive to live there, limited shopping, shipping is crazy expensive and there are some things that they won't ship. My SIL lived there in the early 90s. But it's a great place to visit!

Gravatar And if you were good enough to be in the NFL, why would you waste 1 year of the average 3 year career playing for basically minimum wage in Europe if you didn't have to?

Gravatar I just read that the s&c program at UM still uses *machines instead of free weights*? This can't be true. It's not true, right.
If it's true, you will have a transformed team next year, after it's been Doyle-ized.

Gravatar is it true that "it was confirmed, as expected, no Kirk Ferentz on the plane."

Gravatar fact checker:

Sadly the M S&C DOES still use machines.

When I was on campus 10 years ago I used some of the castoff football machines at one of the student rec centers.

THEY SUCKED ASS

Now I base my lifting around squatting and deadlifts and the difference in how I feel and perform is unbelievable.

If we go with KF, pray he brings Doyle or Doyle's 2nd in command for S&C. Then give new S&C guy a blank check to modernize/expand/change Michigan's S&C facilities and we'll be in great shape!

Gravatar bleeding blue-

It was a lot more than just some fans...it's not like there are only 12 of us out there that want him but whatever. I am just happy that his name has not completely fallen off the list like some would indicate. Would love to see him in the Maize and Blue. I'm sure this will start up the "are-kansas" talk and him being a crook chat from some again. Been there done that already heard it, save it lol. Sorry not specifically attacking you I'm in general just really sick of hearing the same two reasons why Les Miles shouldn't be the coach.

Also since I'm on the subject I keep seeing people writing about how Michigan needs an X's and O's man. Miles was regarded as one of the best X's and O's men when he was an assistant coach here at Michigan so...I would take anything though that wasn't run run pass punt.

Gravatar Good lord you people are pathetic.

Gravatar What is more pathetic? Us coming on here to talk to fellow UofM fans about the exciting prospect of a new head coach, or the fact that you possibly have just read through 830+ posts just to tell us that we are all pathetic....

Gravatar ThWard: I took it to mean something is keeping him there.....but I am just trying to parse words from a written sentence......it could very well be the other way around, never really looked at it that way. Who knows?

Gravatar I only got through about 100 of the comments but it did not even take that many to figure out you are all bat shit crazy. You morons are slinging poo all over the place due to an unsubstantiated rumor made up by Hawkeye fans to tweak you stupid bastards.

Gravatar bluewolverine, Ferentz won't go anywhere without Doyle. How many s&c coaches are standing next to the HC on the sideline during games?

Gravatar It's still pretty pathetic as someone who doesn't give a shit that you took the time to read through even 100 posts. I dunno I'd say thats more pathetic since you have no interest in the outcome of the matter....

Gravatar I kind of agree with Vepr.

I think I'm done reading this for awhile. I keep reading different things, which means there's a good chance nobody knows what they're talking about.

I think I'll wait for some real news and then read these threads again to figure out who isn't an idiot.

Gravatar @00goblue00

I didn't suggest that it was only a "few" who would prefer Miles. I used "some" because "majority" isn't necessarily accurate. Maybe majority on some boards, but overall, who can say?

Personally, I am intrigued by the prospect of LM coming here, just don't see it happening.

And as for whether LM has "fallen off" the list, that he was ever on, is still on or where he might be on "the list" is pure speculation, at best, since Martin has never said publicly who IS. My "sources" tell me that hell will freeze over before Martin will hire Miles, but the only thing I will put any stock in is a press conference announcing the hiring of the new coach.

Gravatar Who says I don't have any interest in the outcome? I am just not getting worked up into a mouth frothing frenzy over rumors like more than a few of you are. It is comical and sad at the same time.

Gravatar Vepr and others who chime in with the "you guys are stupid" cracks. Stop being so damn serious. I wasn't around last night so I missed out on this. And I've scanned in and out today. My thoughts? Hilarious. Absolutely, wonderfully, hilarious. Except for a few over-the-line posts, it's fun to speculate with others in the mgoblog community about this stuff. Yeah, I have a real life. Even a paying job (believe it or not). But as a Michigan fan, it's nice to know that there are other people as nuts as I am about this, but that they have senses of humor.

Jamie Mac-- appreciate that-- that's what I thought you meant.

00goblue--- Completely agree. I wasn't even that high on Miles, but I spent about 2000 words defending him on the GBW boards because I got sick of hearing the same stupid attacks on him... and the more I defended him, the more I like him (even though Kelly is my first choice-- hence, why I'm sad about Jamie Mac's post, assuming it turns out to be true)

Gravatar Bleeding Blue-

I'm not trying to argue with you...I was just saying I find it hard to believe that hell would freeze over before Martin would hire Miles if he was the best candidate out of everyone Martin is looking at. Thats just stupid if that is the case and it would make me wonder why our school can't make an unbiased decision for the best interest of the program.
I agree with you there that the only thing to put stock into is when we finally hear it in a press conference. I just enjoy coming on here to see what others say, doesn't necessarily mean I buy into everything that is written, although the Ferentz thing concerns me a bit. Obviously we should all realize that Brians sources can be wrong...

Gravatar Vepr-- I get that, but it's more funny than sad if you give the posters the benefit of the doubt that they're not deranged and rather read it as though they have a sense of humor--- which is probably the case.

Gravatar This posting finally degenerated into people attacking each other. Guess we'll have to start a new one somewhere. Why can't people just ignore people like Vepr? Just leave those people alone...

Gravatar ThWard-

Exactly. I'm open to the search. I would prefer Miles but whatever. My point is if thats the best that people can come up with for why he shouldn't be the coach then we really should have nothing to worry about. I actually found it amusing at least it wasn't the same boring crap that Lloyd spewed off in his press conferences "well we didn't give it all we have, we know what we have to do next week". Lets give some good reasons here not some petty bullshit!!

Gravatar agree 00goblue... except I'd replace "conerns me a bit" with "makes me want to prepare for a nuclear winter."
samsoccer-- not sure I "attacked" him. Just don't think he should read these posts from the lense that everyone is pathetic-- more, from the lense that mgoblog gives us a community of semi-rabid Michigan fans with some sense of humor, is all.

Gravatar Exactly ThWard. last night I was writing my posts from a purely comical standpoint. I wasn't being serious in anything I wrote (Except that I do really find Les Miles attractive lol). Hell with everything going on around here we need some comedy in our life to ease our minds. Everyone was having a good time. Nothing wrong with that!

Gravatar Weighing in on the gender discussion... To be perfectly honest, I've never agreed too much with the points and somewhat the tone of the posts from: kgh10, 00goblue00 and Korea Blue. It was never about the quality of the post, just their POV which either felt too conservative, too "oh stop being so mean" or gave too much props for someone I don't like (e.g. kgh10's support for Loeffler). When I found out it was coming from a female it no longer annoyed me as much. Why? Because women knowing anything about COLLEGE FOOTBALL to me is very attractive, regardless of whether I agree with it or not. Just haven't found too many women out there who care and are knowledgable about CF, something that is near & dear to my heart. And since men really annoy me, any opinion from a woman is appreciated even if I think it SUCKS. I'm sure that's really offensive to the aforementioned female posters but oh well, it's how I experience their comments. I don't agree with much of what they say but I like and respect they have a POV.

Gravatar @anon-

Thanks? lol. I'm just kidding. I don't personally care that you agree with nothing I say I take no offense to that. I just like knowing that there are some men out there who can respect a females POV on college football. Not all of us are dumbasses. I sat by many in the student section while I was at UofM and I wanted to rip off my ears everytime they opened their mouth. "OMG John Navarre I called him during the last away game and was like baby what are you doing you need to play better for me!" "What is that they are throwing around out there?" Give me a break lol.
Now I'm in the alumni section and it's better but there are still a lot of annoying people in there, just for other reasons.

Gravatar and btw. I hope you weren't referring to me with the Conservative posting. I may be Conservative politically, but that is the last thing I want for the play calling on the field!
I have always said, there is a time and a place to be Conservative and on the football field is not one of them!!
Now you all can hate me more because I am a female and a Conservative lol. :)

Gravatar http://money.cnn.com/pf/features...e_unemployment/

no wonder michigan is at the bottom of this list.

Gravatar @ThWard

I didn't mean to say you attacked him, I meant he posted something somewhat ridiculous and we should just ignore him. It's like going to an AA meeting and saying we're all weak bastards who can't handle our liquor. He should just be ignored.

Gravatar This thread is an illustration of the differences between Michigan fans and Ohio State fans.

Typical M fan: "Having noted that I think Les Miles is the best candidate for the job, I'd also like to comment on the unfortunate stereotypes that women in positions of power must still deal with..."

Typical OSU fan: "F*ck m*c*i*g*n, f*ck em, i hate em, f*ck em all to hell, praise be to Woody Hayes, woo! Woody! Woo! Ohio! O-H-I-O! I want to burn things!"

Gravatar ThWard has the right idea all you silly Wolverines. That's one of the great things about college football . . . years after you've left campus, it still has the capacity to get you completely nuts and irrational about something you have absolutely no control over. Vepr's off base, even for an outsider, and maybe he/she hasn't lived what you're going through now. The only reasons I'm on here at all is (1) I have Michigan friends to needle, and (2) it's reminiscent of when my alma mater swung and missed at Urban Meyer. God Almighty, you would have thought the mother land had been invaded from the comments on BGS. Now, it's high comedy to watch you guys tracking midnight flights to Cedar Rapids and totally losing your minds . . . just like we will again in __ years when Charlie gets canned.

In the meantime, enjoy the ride, Blue. And bill all your lost time to the Penske file. Or whatever.

Gravatar lol @ hat. Yes, I suppose I see the stark differences between an OSU board and a UM board. And actually you summed it up well with the "stereotypes women of power still have to deal with." Just ONE of my many issues with the tone of many of the posts in here. But let it be known I don't want to be the mgoblog police, I was just saying how stupidly reactionary and disrespectful those comments were, that's it.

Anon - I'll second the "thanks?" comment. OT: My support of Loeffler stems from the (imo) strange idea that he should be canned, as if there were better QB coaches out there. There aren't many, if any, coaches out there that can really coach up a QB. If there are, send em over. If not, how would we benefit from firing Loeffler? If anything, he's a great recruiter of QBs, so we'll at least have good talent at that position, if not pretty dang good coaching for the position (which, as I've seen here, is arguable). The fact that Loeff is singled out as someone who should be fired, rather than retained, on this staff, is odd to me. That was my reason for his defense, not because I think he's OMGZ awesome! Relatively speaking, he is a great QB coach and because the quality of a coach is really quite relative to the coaches our opponents have, relativity is completely relevant to whether or not we should retain his services. That's where my Loeffler support stems from, so now I hope you see where I'm coming from on that one. BTW I'm all but positive that Korea Blue is male. Kind of interesting you disagree with both 00goblue00 and I, because our views are generally opposite.

Gravatar If what we want is a dual threat QB who can run a spread offense and break us into a new generation of College Football than I don't see how Loeffler is the right guy for the job. His entire experience - high school star, college scrub, and QB coach at Michigan - has revolved around learning and coaching slow, immobile, pocket passers with cannons for arms but punching bags for legs (save Tom Brady who is debatable whether he is part of the Loeffler experience). Loeffler would need to learn the spread offense to coach the spread offense. Why bother? He should just go to the NFL if there's a transition and if he's truly in demand.

And I don't think the QB's Loeffler has been DIRECTLY involved with have been good (Navarre + Henne, 1-7 against OSU).

BTW, I thought Korea Blue said she was female too? What about Jamie mac? You out there Jamie mac? Guy or girl? Just curious - real nice person either way and I like his/her posts.

Gravatar kgh-

I was kind of thinking the same thing when I read that because for the most part you and I have not agreed on much of anything since I have started posting lol.

Gravatar WE NEED A...

Profiles in Heroism of Brian Kelly

Brian Kelly

Brian Kelly

Brian Kelly...The best coach out their

Gravatar But we don't run the spread and haven't hard-recruited a dual threat QB. Maybe he has learned how to coach an "immobile rocket armed QB" but it is possible to adjust. That's like saying we shouldn't get a HC that is used to running a pro-style offense b/c he cannot possibly understand how to coach a spread. Uh, no. For ex: Tressel figured how to go from pro-style, to spread option, to pro-style again. Obviously we don't have an example of Loeff being able to, but aren't you jumping the gun a bit on the "well, what if we get a running QB?!". Loeffler teaches passers how to pass strong and accurately. He teaches them how to read defenses, he teaches them to be SMART quarterbacks...what he does with a mobile QB cannot be much different than a pocket passer. If anything, he'd be great w/ a dual threat QB because usually they are horrible at passing. If he can get a QB that is athletic and can run, he can most likely get them to be able to pass on the run much better as well. That point is completely irrelevant.

Side note: I don't get how you think Brady is any more mobile than Henson or even Mallett for that matter. Griese was probably our most mobile in the past 10 years. Confusing pocket presence and mobility are two different things.

And you say college scrub as if he was a bad QB...he had a bad shoulder injury and didn't recover from it as well as he probably hoped for.

As for the Navarre + Henne = 1-7 vs OSU: worst. point. ever. Brady and the others didn't play vs. a Tressel coached team. You're gonna tell me Dreisbach and Griese were better QBs than Henne b/c they beat a Cooper coached OSU team? lol again, no. THAT is the difference between when we did beat OSU and when we didn't...not the quarterbacks. Another one of the most unfounded attacks vs. Henne is his record vs. OSU because it totally ignores the largest factor in the losing trend to OSU - Tressel. Our quarterbacks are not why we've lost big games, it's nearly everything else. The fallacy that our QBs are the reason for our demise is just funny.

Gravatar Anonymous 3:49: I'm a guy....the only reason why I know some of the ones who are women is because a few weeks back someone posted under the name onlyfemaleposter, or something like that.....and all the maize and blue babes came out of the woodwork to tell her wtf.....it was priceless, and pretty damn cool if you ask me to find out how many women were fans, but also cared enough to contribute to the message board!

My question relative to posters identity is age......after finding out that kgh10 is, what did you say, 19, I am becoming more and more convinced that at 35 I am the old man here......kgh10 has been promoting such strong thoughts on our QB coach, she's a girl and like 19......i feel as old and outdated as Lloyd suddenly.

Gravatar Wow, kgh10 is 19! Hot DAMN! Too bad I am having this painful argument with her about Loeffler.

kgh10 - Navarre gift-wrapped at least one of the OSU defeats. It wasn't Tressel's for the taking. You can't say that Navarre and Henne are not responsible for the OSU losses and that it was all just Tressel's doing.

Your point is that Loeffler is a good QB Coach. I just don't see it. Not in his recruits, not in his QB's records in important games and not in his QB's development. Navarre and Henne were not that much better in their senior years than their freshman years. Show me the statistical evidence that proves otherwise and I'll grant you ONE date with me. Just ONE. And I'm younger than Jamie mac, for the record. ;)

Gravatar "Navarre and Henne were not that much better in their senior years than their freshman years. Show me the statistical evidence that proves otherwise and I'll grant you ONE date with me."

kgh10: i'll bet you dinner that dustin hoffman was in star wars. what's that? he wasn't? oh, i guess i owe you a dinner. 'dang.'

Gravatar cut off....sorry.
