As a Buckeye fan, I can't see why Pryor would choose OSU over um right now. He won't have to fight for playing time, and Richie Rich runs the offense that will best utilize his skill set. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not seeing it. Of course, there was no reason Laurinaitis should have come back either, but he is...

gsimmons, I was arguing that while some of the zone blocking technique might be the same between UofM and WVU, that our zone scheme made effective run blocking nearly impossible while RR's scheme, due to fewer men in the box and the different responsibilities of the D to contain the spread meyhem, would allow some of our stud OL talent to shine.
In other words, our OL zone blocking sucked against better DLines because the D could sell out against the run. Any such selling out against a spread option or passing spread would be suicide. Therefore, we can expect improved OL play even though zone blocking is still around.
Am I wrong?

M legend-
The myth that UM's women aren't attractive is just that, a myth-- one that is clung onto with great effort by rival schools who know they can't touch the objective superior ranking of UM in the academic mags, so they cling to the subjective myth that our academic rep comes at the expense of, ahem, quality in student body. I've always disagree, but haven't really cared enough to challenge it because I don't care what people say-- a campus of 40K+ has many, many attractive females on it.

Part of Michigan's problem co-ed wise is shared by many northern schools. The hot to not ratio is lower than at the southern schools, but also due to bad weather, the actual girl is hidden beneath a puffy Northface jacket.
Due to aforementioned poor ratio, it is not in the best interests of many male students to risk unwrapping the package to find out what's inside.
At UGA, for example, the packages come wrapped in transparent celophane. Thus no hot UGA girls go unnoticed. Not so at UofM

the other thing that is consistently identifiable about them is that even though all girls here wear Uggs and black tights and have pink cell phones, Chi O girls will always, ALWAYS travel with the following:
-Oversized sunglasses with unnecessary rhinestone shit
-The really short Uggs, which are even less practical than the ones that cover the calf
-feathers or fur on their winter coat's hood
-a big old Virginia Slim in their left hand
-cell phone conversations that consist primarily of "no FACKING way!"
-syphilis

It wasn't collusion, immediately after the goal our goalie claimed it went in the side. Plus the ref's view was locked. Then the ref goes over and checks the net, and it's COMPLETELY locked down tight. And he still disallows it. I had to stare at the ground I was laughing so hard. I felt bad for the short guy that scored that goal, the little fucker was impossible to guard.
The truck was an Xterra. You guys won that game in the bottom of the 6th. I was in centerfield for that game, I watched the game winning hit drop right in front of our RF from 10 feet away, fucking painful.
You guys had the edge in total wins over us while I was there I believe, but you never beat us in Walleyball/Volleyball while I was there, and since I captained those teams it makes me happy. Too bad Kappa Sigma had freaking Brazilians on their team.

under MIKE BARWIS'S direction, TP won't be hitting the ladies with a rubber bar anymore. Oh no, halfway into his freshaman year, our (hopefully) boy Terrelle is gonna be hittin' em with steel and he's gonna be HURTIN' em. And once we get TP set up using plyometrics, speed and agility progressions, and natural supplementation (dont even get me started on the stable apparatus), he's not just going to want to w1n, he's going to DESERVE TO W1N.

This thread has been fun and depressing at the same time. Good to know that the hottest sororities haven't changed in the last 13 years, but why no mention of the Thetas? Are they still there? Are they be suck now? Just curious.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it back from Chicago for the game this weekend. Luckily, Iowa might be one of the only teams in the Big Ten we can beat this year, so TP might get to see a victory.

My submission for Barwis Group Info:
Meet Mike Barwis, he'll fucking kill you. Seriously though, he has wolves. They probably live in his house while he lives out in their pens, which are made of steel, which he built with his bare hands. Mike Barwis is the new Strength and Conditioning coach at the University of Michigan and he is coming for you. You say you don't play football, and you want to be his friend? Don't look at him, don't nod at him on campus. He is not your friend. To him you are meat for his athletes to beat on, and beat on you they shall.

If you have been to hockey games, then you can agree that is as loud as any Michigan crowd gets for any sporting event. That was more of the point. I know he is a basketball player and I would love to see him suit up for that as well. The beauty is, he can go to both because one is on Friday and the other is on Saturday. Remember, this is to sell him on Michigan as a whole.

if anyone could help me out with this, i'd really appreciate it. the athletic department offered free ticket vouchers to students for the BC game earlier this year, and i think if we emailed Marty Bodnar, who runs the ticket office, and just the ticket office in general pleading for them to offer free admission on saturday that it just might work and we could have a large student presence for terrelle pryor on saturday. the email addresses are mbodnar@umich.edu and mtickets@umich.edu

I thought I heard at the Army game that the announcers said that TP's dad was very ill. If that was/is the case wouldn't it be advantageous for him to go to a school with a great med school/ hospital? Also, to not go far from home? Thus making any claims about LSU this and Oregon that seem to be unfounded.
I do know this though, I am still a Les Miles fan, but if TP goes down there I'll drive to Baton Rouge and shit on his porch myself.

Prior says that he's excited about visiting LSU because he likes what Gary Groton says about "changing their offense around for me." I was just trolling on tigerdroppings and those clowns are like convinced TP is going to LSU. That article on MSNBC does not look good for RR. His lawyer is basically admitting that RR destroyed a bunch of docs. Regardless of whether this is illegal or not, it makes RR look bad. Like he's trying to hide something. Nothing good comes out of it. I say all of the UM haters are going to latch on to this story and blow it out of proportion in the next couple of days. This may work to undermine recruiting efforts.

I don't know if anybody has seen some of the thread topics on ESPN's CFB board, but it's hilarious. "Will RichRod ever coach a game at Michigan?" "Is this George O'Leary, But Worse?" "Fraudriguez shredded steroid receipts"
I just don't understand the vitriol combined with massive stupidity...why would a man possess documentation that indicts him as a criminal in the first place? "Hey, Calvin, let's write down everything that could send us to prison and put it in my office. But we won't destroy it until after I leave Morgantown because the danger gives me a huge erection." Steroid receipts? Are you fucking kidding?

In the least creepy way possible (read: facebook stalking), I looked up DG, A Chi O, Chi O, Alpha Phi, Kappa Sig, KKG, ADPi, SDT, PiPhi, KATheta, AGD, G Phi B, Phi Rho, and Tri Delt's facebook group pages for the campus.
Deductions:
A Chi O/Alpha Phi/KKG/Tri Delt could all be argued #1
Kap Sig/DG/KATheta are tier two
Chi O/ADPi/SDT tier three
Pi Phi alone in tier four
AGD/GPhiB/PhiSigRho make up the bottom tier.

I remember being in Women's Studies 101 w/ David Terrell (it was mandatory for male scholarship atheletes. My class had a large number of football players, so the main subject of class was "don't rape women"). David treated the discussion section like his own personal dating advice - "You mean they don't like it when I say they have a tight ass???"

I'm about 95% sure that with him, it was.
The best part was the reaction of the TA. Our TA, was, as I'm sure they are for most Women's Studies classes, a rather ardent feminist - she wasn't even a graduate student, she was an undergrad "facilitator". Watching her have to deal with Terrell was absurd - she was clearly so, so angry, and couldn't/was afraid to say anything otherwise.

gsimmons, you getting all in to that poon talk, and you didn't answer my post...
gsimmons, I was arguing that while some of the zone blocking technique might be the same between UofM and WVU, that our zone scheme made effective run blocking nearly impossible while RR's scheme, due to fewer men in the box and the different responsibilities of the D to contain the spread meyhem, would allow some of our stud OL talent to shine.
In other words, our OL zone blocking sucked against better DLines because the D could sell out against the run. Any such selling out against a spread option or passing spread would be suicide. Therefore, we can expect improved OL play even though zone blocking is still around.
Am I wrong?

I would like other people's opinion on this. I would regard Terrelle Pryor as the most important Michigan football recruit in the past 15 years. Actually, it's not really even close. Reasons:
- He's plays the most important position on the field
- He's a perfect fit for the new offense and gives the RR era a jump start
- If he doesn't come here, he's goes to OSU
- He's the top rated recruit in the country
- There is a sizeable dropoff with the available replacements (both recruits and current players)
So, first of all, do you agree with this? Second, if so, who's the second most important recruit? Please only consider players as they came out of high school. In hindsight, we can all say that UM more than likely would not have won the NC without Woodson. However, at the time of his recruitment, we probably would have been mildly annoyed not to get that CB out of Ohio, but not devastated.

i would agree with that mdan,
i mean yeah less people in the box, means less people to block....
but it is not a differnt system, its different formations....
you take a zone blocking scheme in a one back ace formation.... split out the te's the wollah, you have the zone spread....
it wont be hard for michigan to learn the zone spread, its the other base plays that they will have trouble picking up, the dart, the trap, the waggle... out of the spread... (even the trap is something they havent done in several years, but a big part of RR's offense)

Also, please don't take my thought exercise as meaning Michigan football will die without TP. Far from it. However, someone has to be the most important recruit and I think it's him.

Good morning everyone... I just realized that after signing day, my day at the office is going to get very boring. I think we are going to need to start a support group for mgoblog addicts...
WRT 2nd biggest recruit, I have no idea. I don't remember the last time we completely switched to the opposite end of the spectrum in our offensive scheme. I'd have to imagine that biggest recruits were always highly sought after qbs since they touch the ball nearly every offensive play. Although, if I take that mentality, shouldnt it be the center? Oh well.

gsimmons, no problem! Thanks. I just felt that our use of zone blocking allowed skilled DLineman to slant and blow up the play. That should stop in the new scheme, yes? The DEs have contain on the QB and can't just try to blow up every running play.

MRG, I think point #3 is the entire key to this. Without TP, I think we will be fine. I actually would prefer to force RR to begin with a passing spread to dispel the rumors that we won't be able to lure stud pocket QBs to Michigan anymore.
But to lose out on TP AND have him end up at OSU, with that line they have recruited and with Tressel's history with TSmith, THAT would be a disaster.

well Chitown I think the intial report of TP having problems with the 25th and 02 weekends are legit as evidence the moving up of Michigan, which shows he has serious interest in us. I'd say recruit wise that Henson was probably 1st or 2nd. The truth is that most of the guys we go after from OH or PA are both OSU and UM recruiting targets. I don't know if there has ever been an upswell of attention towards a recruit that TP has gotten, but Henson was close, and that was in the pre-blog era.
It's a shame that the rivals tracking only goes back to 2002, otherwise we could look at where Woodson and Howard were located. If I remember correctly (and I was only 10) Woodson was a top 10 recruit.

To return to the ladies for TP:
Most/many football players end up dating other athletes. Very few date sorostitutes (although they prob let the sorostitutes blow them).
Many notable UM football players dated sprinters from the track team (attractive, in great shape):
Charles Woodson, UAAS Ron Bellamy, Braylon Edwards, Andy Mignery, Sean Thompson, etc
Others date soccer players:
David Terrel (whose ex Abby Crumpton is now a soccer coach at UM), Benny Jopprhu
Also other sports, like softball (the straight girls), volleyball or field hockey
The athletic dept is far more incestuous than you think, and most date inside the dept, so our best bet is to round up hot girl athletes for Pryor to meet

Without TP, Buckeye-world is in for some lean times.
Consider: 18 returning starters for next year - they will obviously be nasty in 2008. But most of those returning starters will be gone after next year. In 2009, things will be dicey for the Bucks.
However, if they have TP, they have someone to rally around and a monster OLine as well. Without TP, they will have had one QB recruit in the last three years (with Schoenfelt leaving) and one QB on the roster.
This is a big deal down in Columbus.

I think Williams was brought in as a CB/S hybrid that would play nickle specifically in English's version of the 3-3-5 (think Brandon Harrison). I would imagine he will be utilized in much the same way by the current staff, with maybe more time at safety. And yes, he's a RS Freshman.

mdan,
well it depends on the derensive scheme, as far as qb contain... but even if its not the de's resp... ie, 3-4 slant scheme.. still the fact that the olb is removed from the l.o.s. to offset the fact that a reciever is out there, makes the zone more effective...
of course add a mobile qb into the mix, then you have a whole new set of problems...
you play ,formation wise, a completely different looking defense against the spread, based on what kind of qb the opposition has..

Does anyone else think Cissoko may red-shirt?
Right now, we have 3 solid returning corners (Warren, Trent, Harrison). Cissoko may be more talented than Harrison, but it seems like Harrison's skills lend himself ideally to covering slot receivers.
Also, safeties?
We have: Stevie Brown (Junior), Artis Chambers (Sophomore), Charles Stewart (Senior), Michael Williams (maybe - RS freshman), and Brandon Smith (freshman).
Generally, you'd expect 3 of them to get solid PT, barring injury. Brown almost definitely starts, but then what? Stewart has basically never seen the field, so I doubt he's that good. Williams is the next best rated recruit out there. I can see going in with a rotation of Brown, Williams, and Smith, no?

ok, cfaller, im not sure how i feel about Harrison either.. but let me add this, take it for what its worth...
as my primary position for the past 7 years or so, it has been my experience that there is not a singel positon on the field that has more to do with confidence then that of the secondary. It is amazing how much a kid can change as far as making plays, or not making plays, bassed on his confidence in him self, and in the system... I would expect that all of our secondary will look so much faster and be reading better, and make better breaks, not becasue of Barwis (although obvioulsy this will help as well) but becasue of the confidence that a new system, and new s and c , and new beginings do for them....

I don't know where this talk about Harrison not being on the field is coming from. I tried to look at posts above, but I couldn't find the source...
Anyway, you can be pretty sure that Harrison will be on the field next year. Except for Trent, he has more experience than any other DB. He's played corner and safety.
If they have a base 4-3, he'll move to FS or SS. If they do end up running a 3-3-5, you'll see him at FS or bandit.
Harrison will be a starter next year.

From what I heard, THIS weekend is the last weekend he'll be able to spend an entire weekend at a school. During the next two weekends, he has basketball games and won't be able to spend all three days there.
This is probably good for us, since he apparently wants to see a lot of Ann Arbor. It probably means he just wants to take a cursory look at the other schools.

Jon Vaughn - you're right, maybe we should base 100% of an evaluation of Brandon Harrison on a single play. Especially when, for that play, you're confusing him with Stevie Brown. Check the UFR.

hey everyone, our program is 'rebuilding' right now. don't expect a masterpiece on the field this year or even next. we are very shallow on the depth chart in a lot of positions. Trust in RR that he will improve the squad dramatically and then cure cancer.

Oh, no. My wife absolutely hates football- why do you think I hang out at MGoBlog so much?
Thanks for the offer, though.

Brick House is elnolewis...I'm sure of it!
And I couldn't agree with you more, chitownblue, re: Harrison. I thought he played very well toward the end of the year. Basing judgment on one play from the first game of the year (are we to say Shawn Crable is an absolute mess of a player because he missed a blocking assignment, too?) is asinine.

Regardless of how we feel about Harrison, I think we can all agree that he will NOT be moving into a starting position at CB. He's certainly not better than Warren or Trent.
So he'll remain as a nickelback or bandit safety or something regardless. Personally, I would like to see him take over at one of the safety positions, but that's just my opinion.

Who was it that has the wife who refers (jeez...that's a lot of pronouns...) to those of us who post on here as "blog fags."
You know, the one that spawned "blag" and eventually "douche blag" to refer to a moron poster.
That guy's wife should be proud that she was able to contribute even without posting!

ThWard was the "blog fag".
I agree, cFaller - Harrison will not be a starting corner - Trent and Warren will. I just think that Harrison merits PT - not including the Florida game, which has yet to be UFR'd, Brian graded Harrison out as +5 on the season, if you add up all the games. That includes a big fat -3 for the single play against Oregon, and a big, fat, -3 for the long run he missed the tackle on vs. Northwestern.

@ Jon Vaughn
The person beaten on that slant was Johnny Sears, I believe. Sears was beaten to the inside on the route and then Steve Brown missed the tackle when he tried to come up and help.
IIRC, the only play where Harrison was badly beaten was against Oregon where he was outrun on a wheel route by Paysinger (or some other Oregon receiver). And, really, he had pretty good coverage. It was a perfectly thrown ball. I thought he dove a little too soon to make the tackle, but there's no guarantee that he would have caught up to the receiver, anyway...

Magnus - on the UFR, both Sears and Stevie brown got -3's on that play vs. Appy St.

And, Magnus, the talk of benching Harrison was merely a question we asked - if we're intending on playing Cissoko as a true freshman as a nickel back, then I merely wondered what happened to Harrison. Or if Booboo would redshirt?

not knowing what play you guys are refering too i cant comment... but i will say, probably you guys have no idea what coverage was called, so more than likely have no idea who to blame... jsut becasue someone is chasing, or someone is closest, doesnt mean that person was responsible, it might be that person was covering for someone else...
who knows...

I don't think Harrison was entirely at fault for that play against Northwestern, either. That's like saying Purdue's defender who Mike Hart rolled over and scored that TD was a buffoon. It's not necessarily true; it was just a great play by Ward.
Besides, there were other defenders who could have wrapped him up just as easily. I think Ezeh was there, too, and just kind of gave Ward a little push. If anything, Ezeh deserves more blame because he just took a half-assed shot at Ward.

Gsimmons - vs. Oregon, Harrison was in 1-on-1 coverage with Paysinger and got run the fuck by - that was fairly clear-cut.
Vs. Northwestern, he just missed a tackle roughly 14 yards down field on a running play. The way wasn't successful because of his error (if I remember, Graham and Ezeh couldn't get off blocks) but his miss turned it from 15-yard successful to 48-yards and a TD successful.

as i tlaked about earlier this year, the cover two safeties were so woried about fades, that many of them took improper steps, and were at terrible angles when slants and digs, posts, and ins were thrown...
but is that the problem of the saefty? the safety coach? or the corners, who last year were exposed on fades, and thus lead to safeties having to give more help....
brandent englemon, of course, would have won the appp game for us, if he plays in the first half...

Maybe he could have had safety help, but he still got run past. It's not horrendous coverage, though, IMO.

Thanks, chitown.
I don't think Cissoko will redshirt, simply because our numbers are pretty thin. To back up our starters at CB, we only have Dutch, Woolfolk, and Rogers.
I think Harrison will move to safety and Cissoko will play some in the slot and to back up the outside corners. Cissoko will probably be groomed to take over for Trent after next year. I don't think they'd want to toss a redshirt freshman to the wolves in 2009. If they plan on him starting, they probably want to get him some experience.

sorry chi, i cant watch youtube clips at school, they are blocked...
i beleive you ... i think i remember but, im just saying, it could still be cover two... in a dallas two system... corners play undernieth fades, that is they cary the fad 15 yards or so, if no underneith threats, or under calls, they stay under that reciever... it is still a deep half concept for th safety... is that what mich was running, i have no f'ing idea, but that is in their defensive package...
more than likely since it was spread it was one on one....

I agree w/magnus about cissoko. I think he'll make it on the field simply based on his footwork and athleticism. Barring some sort of schematic issue, I think it's a no brainer. He's too good. I just wish he was about 3 inches taller.

Simmons,
my understanding of Michigan's system is that they run a match two? Which obviously has roots in the tampa two. dallas two? what are the differences? is it simply nuance?

big difference between tampa two and dallas two...
big differece in a man two
tampa two= hard under corners... flat coverage only, safeties complete half coverage... usually no help underneith fades by corners.. they can do this becasue i middle lb, will cover the middle seam, or any deep post from 2 or 3 reciver...
dallas two=what i describes above, a soft two, corners help on fades, only come up if there is an undernieth threat lb's play normal two coverage
man two= two deep under man
dont see michigan running much true two, or tampa two... mostly a dalas two look... or man-two what i call blue(two)under
