I think that Campbell and Newsome both made "gentleman's agreements" to attend the University of Michigan.

Campbell soft? YIKES!
I think Newsome may have ben queazy over a third QB commit like Forcier, but that's over and done with.

My new addition to the all time hate list?
The Immigration and Naturalization Services for letting Francisco Cruceta into the country. I can't even get angry with "Lung Rot" Leyland for yanking Manderbon after only 82 pitches last night. I blame the fuckers who are responsible for even allowing Lung Rot to have a choice between Bonderman or Cruceta.
INS = Good for nothing.

Oh the good old days of 8-8 or 9-7 and a quick eviction from the playoffs.

The best part of those salad days for the Lions was that I was only like 10 so I could easily convince myself every time they made the playoffs they had a legitimate chance to make the Super Bowl.
But then Philly would hang 60 on them, or Barry would be held to -2 yards, or the Redskins would score 89 unanswered points to end that dream.

Gee, I wonder what black shoes diary would have to say about PSU still hoping to garner a visit from Newsome.
What a non-story......the alleged gantlemen's agreement, that is......but, hey if it fits your predetermined storyline then run with it.
Thats one reason why this blog succeeds. It does not seem to fall into that trap the way others do. About the only predetermined storyline is "Oh No Sparty" but I believe that pattern has been clearly set and this blog just waits for those moments to inevitably arrive.

The best part of the beatdown the Lions received at the hands of the Eagles in '95? Lomas Brown admitting years later that after the game was out of hand, he was so pissed with Scott Mitchell that he intentionally whiffed on a block and allowed the DE to get an unabated shot on Mitchell and sack him.
Fucking classic!

Lions should have stuck with Erik Kramer and not forked over all that dough to Scott Mitchell. One of the worst under pressure QB's I have seen. Totally soft and always folded when the moments got bigger.
Those TB vs Detroit games were always classic to see which QB--Dilfer or Mitchell--would screw his team up worse. I swear there was a game where four straight offensive possessions ended with red zone turnovers at the hands of those guys.
Classic stuff, I suppose.

03 record at June 1: 14-39
month of May 2003: 11-18
08 record at June 1: 21-35 (potentially)
month of May 2008: 8-16 (so far)
and i laughed and i laughed...

Jamie,
Remember the '97 Lions/Bucs playoff game where Mitchell scrambled out of the pocket on 4th down late in the 4th quarter, dove 2 yards short of the marker and then faked an injury when he realized he fucked up and was short of a first down?
God I love those days. The best part was listening to Art Regner explode on WDFN after the game.

1. Robot animals are pretty cool.
2. The Borens are more trashy than I had assumed.

Ninja: I'm completely against relying 100% on anything to make a decision unless the girl's on satin sheets in lingerie saying come hither. That decision needs no explanation.
"I can agree that stats are valuable, but if you rely entirely on them you are missing part of the picture. If I know a guy has a tendency to play tight and the flop comes out A33 with me holding 10 9 suited, he checks and it comes to me you can be damn sure I'm betting big right there knowing he'll fold. Stats would say I should not make that bet and simply fold, but there's more to life than simply statistics. If he matches or re-raises I'm folding based on what I think he has."
This is how you should play cards. That's a very well reasoned bet with good risk/reward. But you're missing a key point here. You said you know he plays tight. By that I assume you mean after observing several hands you've noticed an inclination to play premium hands and bet accordingly. This isn't some Derek Jeter intangible shit, this is observe, measure, act. Your "he plays tight" observation, unless it's based solely on his smile or eye twitch, is strongly based in statistics.
We should get an mgoblog poker game going. It might have to be a play money tournament with pride at stake, but it could be a lot of fun.

To continue with a non-sensical discussion from before:
Not grades, not discipline- booster issues.
Look, I'm not delusional enough to think we don't have some level of impropriety in our program. The number of people you have to account for is simply too great. What I do know is that during my time on campus our number one running back drove an old station wagon with a driver's side door that didn't work. In comparison one of my best friends went to UT and Vince Young used to hang out in his bar wearing all kinds of bling and drove an Escalade. It was accepted as normal. I find it difficult to believe that Mo Clarett was driving around an invisible "loaner" car for 3 months. My point is that perhaps it IS a sliding scale, but if it is done on our end it's not blatant; I'd like to believe that's because the players know our coaches would blow a gasket and not just look the other way.
What really gets me is fans at other schools talking about all the stuff that goes on and is common knowledge and then saying "Don't act like it doesn't happen with you guys too." In my experience it doesn't, and certainly not that blatantly. That's all. Don't assume that we're dirty just because you are, and don't assume we all turn a blind eye to it just because you do. That's all.

The injury to Carlos Brown's finger was not due to a freak weight lifting accident. The finger was broken from mis-handling a snap under center.
