Gravatar Thanks for finally giving an explanation for Quicks' dismissal. thats a bastard move on his part.

Gravatar More on this gentlemens shit, I read from a chat at Rivals that Will Campbell is getting calls still from MSU.....if there is an agreement why is dumbtonio doing this on a guy who has said he is firm and plans no visits...

now on the flip side Norman, a commit in name only for MSU, has said he will take other visits, now no one should call him?

Gravatar Michigan called the kid and asked if he would like to be recruited. He obviously said yes, and found a place he'd rather go to school.

Isn't it also possible that at least a few of these guys who ended up changing their minds and signing with Michigan did so on their own accord, after seeing that RichRod and his exciting new offense were coming to Ann Arbor?

Brian makes the good point that we don't know what happened with the recruitment of any of these kids - what's to say that Shaw or Roundtree, who liked RR's offense but maybe weren't interested in WVU for other reasons (um, is WVU), saw our coaching hire and called up and asked if there were any spots available?

I have no idea what happened. But the notion that RR is totally unethical and was prying these kids away from their verbal commitments is without basis. There was a sea change at Michigan this offseason, and it's possible that the change by itself attracted kids who weren't necessarily interested in playing for Lloyd Carr. Should RR have said "you've already verbally committed, we can't take you"? Give me a break.

Gravatar To follow-up on my last comment, we saw the opposite take place: RR's hire caused at least one high-profile player (Mallett) to leave the program.

Gravatar On yostpost, someone said that the credit card belonged to Quick's roommate. Mgoblue had Hagelin and Quick listed as roommates at the beginning of the year, so I'm 99% sure it was Hagelin.

Gravatar as for the non binding letter of intent, i like it in theory, but don't trust it in practice. in other words, just because a kid signed one do you think other coaches are going to stop pestering him 24/7? I don't.

Gravatar Its hammer on RR time for all media, they all just pile on the regurgitated today story....

Notice Florida did not say a thing about Barnum, thats because they know thats the way it is.

Gravatar ...pic of R2 cool. Like the hat and snakeoil.

Gravatar We've been losing recruits for years. This is all bullshit. The rest of the Big Ten knows that this sleeping giant has been awakened, and they're a little scared.

Gravatar That pic was "Gold Jerry..Gold" good, keep up the excellent work!!

Gravatar Brian you may have read the Quick extra info from commenter MichiganStudent, that dude who's trying out for the hockey team and was divulging stuff in comments in some earlier posts.

Also, I pretty much guessed what happened. So woot to me.

Gravatar Oh yeah, that is some sweet sweet photoshopping.

Gravatar People always try to denounce things that are unattainable. Psu is far far far far away from getting a coach who makes previously committed recruits to suddenly say "Woah, check out what Penn State is doing. I always liked them, but I never fit in with their offense". If Lloyd had been here an extra 15 years, we would be envious of new exciting coaches in other places as well. They re hating the player, not the game.

Gravatar Re: Barnum

Can you imagine the public outcry if Urban Meyer had said what Tiller did?

Gravatar great post.

hockey: 1st tiebreaker is wins? crapola. still, miami might have a hickup somewhere. i think they are pretty banged up.

NBLOI: rainkin, under this scenrio, ANY contact froma a coach constitutes a violation, subject to NCAA penalties.

BSD: are grasping at straws as to why/how that sad program has fallen as far as it has. welcome to the B10, PSU... you're essentially Wisc/Purdue/Iowa/Ill.

Gravatar "We're from O-hi-o..."

http://deadspin.com/354896/team-...uilding-in- ohio

Gravatar my brother went to penn state; his reaction to shaw should be what any rational psu fan should have: "i'm pissed that joepa didn't visit him." that's what psu fans should be whining about. is it a surprise that a kid picked a program where the head coach actually appeared to want him on the team?

brian -- on the NBLOI idea . . . if i read the iblogforcookies post right, it seems like that would have precluded RR from communicating to roundtree that michigan would offer him a ride. and isn't the counterpoint to tiller that kids should be able to go where they want, that roundtree changed his mind because his situation changed and he jumped at the chance to go to michigan when it presented itself? if other coaches can't communicate after an NBLOI, roundtree might never have reopened because RR wouldn't have had the opportunity to let him know that he could have a ride at michigan.

Gravatar Or whatever phrase the kids are using now a dayz. When did 27 get so old?

Gravatar clsmooth,

the NCAA *could* institute a 'schollarship offer' rule where one visit/contact could legally happen after the NBLOI is submitted.

Gravatar chitown

Patterson was a 4 star also, iirc.

Gravatar Or whatever phrase the kids are using now a dayz. When did 27 get so old?
ConeforHeisman | 02.11.08 - 2:21 pm

-------

I'd guess around 27 A.D.

Gravatar Michigan should invite Lil Wayne to perform at the spring game. I hear TP is a fan. Plus even the bluehairs would be pop-lock-n-dropping.....ewww....nevermind

Gravatar cls,

even if he was a verbal, he'd have to have sent in the NBLOI. from what it sounds like, he'd have been unlikely to do so. i mean if you're still hoping on michigan, why would you send in an NBLOI?

Gravatar I find that the very negative reaction to Rodriguez reeks of classism. Dirt poor West Virginia boy, through ambition and hard-work, works his way up the coaching ladder and gets a shot at one of the signature coaching gigs in all of sports. His upward mobility (desire to leave WV to coach at Michigan) is derided as a huge character flaw. Then in giving scholarship offers to a few guys committed elsewhere, he's branded as unethical and a snake oil salesman, because it's not as if any player already committed to Joe Tiller or Joe Paterno would ever believe that it would be preferable to play for Rodriguez. No, the only reason those recruits switched to play for hillbilly Rodriguez must be because he's unethical and selling them snake oil. Give me a break.

Gravatar And that breakdown of the remaining schedules is why that tie was so hard to take (or, if you will, only getting 2 points against NMU). With a win, we've basically got the CCHA locked up, barring a disaster. A tie? I'd go as far as to say Miami is still the favorite.

The good thing is that our series with Ferris is a home-and-home. Miami goes there for two games. Wouldn't shock me a bit if Ferris could take 2 points that weekend. They're generally tough at home, though they're 4-6-3 this year. The good news is that they've only been swept at home one time this year and are 2-1-1 against ND this season. They're a capable team.

Gravatar colin makes a good point.... prior to the NBLOI, the assumption would be that the M coaches would say, 'don't sign the NBLOI, please wait til 2/6.'

if the kid really wants to wait for M, he waits.... if not, how serious is the kid about M? not very....

BUT.... the coaching change thing throws a wrench into this. one staff recruits different kids than the old staff..... i think the 'single contact' rule would be necessary.

Gravatar http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/

Vote MGoBlog. Orson's claiming anyone not himself is:

a vote for defeat, poverty, gayness, non-gayness, the evil rich, special interests, the Red Chinese, terrorists, or anyone else you don’t want to be associated with in life.

His lead is 70% to 16% (MGoBlog) to 8% (SundayMorningQB) to 3 lesser opponents.

Poll on top right is the official score keeper.

Gravatar The NBLOI sounds like a good idea but I fear it amounts to over regulation. I doubt it would stop the problems. The timing or methods may change but little else. The idea is to save the kid from being pestered? That doesn't seem like such a big problem for so many kids that it requires a new, cumbersome layer of regulation. If you can afford it, get caller ID and screen if necessary (or just use a cell phone.) I don't view last second changes as a problem because until a LOI is signed there is no decision and hence no change possible.

Gravatar From what I've heard, ND does something like this already. They give an offer, and if the recruit gives a verbal, then ND says "that's great - if you visit or even talk to another school before LOI day, we are going to rescind our offer."

Gravatar that rule is stupid.... in the case of a tie in pts, it essentially reclassifies ties as losses.

iow, a win & a loss >>>>>> 2 ties in the case of a tiebreaker.

just dumb.

Gravatar or, DanK, you could have an exception for coaching changes that goes both ways: anyone who signed an NBLOI could get out of it if there is a coaching change at his school; schools that have coaching changes can have a contact with a kid with an NBLOI to let them know they are interested. but what if a kid signs an NBLOI with ball state, assuming that M isn't interested, then during his senior season, M notices him, but has no way to let the kid know that they are interested -- why leave it up to the kid to know that he needs to reopen so that M can recruit him?

Gravatar Brian - That pic was done by a poster on The Fort (at least that's where I first saw it). Give credit where credit's due.

Gravatar Weis has said that he does what the anon mentions. Weis says a lot of things. I imagine this 'rule' is context dependent if it even exists. Weis pretty much wants everyone to leave 'his' recruits alone while he 'checks in' with other's recruits to see if they want to change their mind.

Gravatar BSD continues to embarrass itself with its hollow logic. When you try to paint yourself as the last beacon of "honor" and "integrity" left in college football, you're bound to come off as an ass.

BTW, Mark Dantonio personally visited Marcus Witherspoon in mid-January trying to lure him away from us. Just adding another example of how bogus this "gentlemans agreement" shit is. Idiots at BSD: Just come clean about the fact that you're pissed about your RB-needy school losing out on the best RB you were able to recruit - all because your coach wouldn't visit him, and your staff rested on its laurels in the cutthroat world of recruiting. But keep the "RichRod is a bastard for leaving WVU" cracks coming. Really displays YOUR character and credibility...of which you Nittany nancies have very little.

Gravatar I don't see a whole lot of reasoning behind the NBLOI. What advantages does it give me to sign a NBLOI other than to keep coaches from calling me? If I am being recruited, I want to keep all avenues open until I can sign officially.

Gravatar I know how bad PSU fans get but geez, looking at that comments section makes my head hurt.

Gravatar BSD continues to embarrass itself with its hollow logic. When you try to paint yourself as the last beacon of "honor" and "integrity" left in college football, you're bound to come off as an ass.

Then Michigan must sound like an ass to everyone else too. It's kind of been our M.O.

(See: Amaker might have sucked but he ran a clean program, Lloyd may have tailed off at the end of his career but he ran it clean and more integrity than the rest of the NCAA.)

Gravatar I like fewer rules, not more. Especially when the NCAA has shown no proclivity to enforce or investigate possible violations of the rules it already has on the books.

Weis's stance towards commitments is hypocritical and counter productive. First of all, Weis was all over Mike Martin, despite the fact that he was a long time UM recruit. Second, he's lost a lot of talent in the two weeks before signing day because of his rule (Justin Trattou, Omar Hunter, Greg Little, etc.). It basically backs recruits into a corner and then when they change their minds, leaves the ND staff no time to react.

Gravatar formerlyanonymous,

I absolutely agree with you. Hence why I'm such a big fan of RichRod coming in and the old guard getting booted out of here. This is no longer a university that hinges everything on tradition or our ability to win numerous championships back when blacks couldn't play football. It's a new game, and RR can play it very well. Hopefully PSU never wakes up and joins the rest of us. I'd hate to see that winning streak be snapped.

Gravatar Huss, yes.

Paterno apparently visited 1 recruit in last 2 years.. Terrelle Pryor.

Gravatar Huss,
I agree.... but with stipulations. I'm all for keeping up with the game, and agree that our system was archaic and needed a kick in the ass to wake it up, but completely forgetting tradition and integrity, (note that I don't mean ONLY talking about the two) would make me more than a little disgusted. Saying Michigan, Lloyd, Bo, and the rest were the absolute pinnacle of class, integrity, and they never ever ever did anything wrong is ridiculous, but they were sure better than average in the department and I'm proud of that. If we became just another Florida or Florida State or Miami (what is with Florida schools anyways?) where win at any cost is the motto, I'd be more than a little put off of our great alma mater.

Gravatar Obviously Shaw was kidnapped and threatened with violence. Young, athletic males are incapable of making their own decisions and only 98 year old white men know what is truly good for them. Shame on Rich Rodriguez for his devious ways.

Gravatar Considering PSU finished 2nd in the Fulmer Cup, they have no right to criticize.

It's amazing how PSU people live in a world where everything bad about their program is fuzzy and everything wrong in other programs is clear.

The fact is old man has been losing control of the team.. no longer responsible for Xs and Os. He wants to die on the field ( he has said himself ) and beat Bobby Bowden in all time wins record... and in the process dragging the PSU program further down.

Fervent fanbase... pitiful situation.

Gravatar theniz,

Michigan will always focus a bit more on academics, and run a tighter ship than most programs out there. That's a given. As for winning at all costs...well, it's not like we're selling our soul to the devil. We're just waking up to the fact that championships and W's kind of outweigh cute grandpa coaches and running the ball every single play in the 4th quarter with a lead out of 'respect' for the other team. We will also show no regard for some mythical 'gentlemans agreement.' Michigan and Penn State aren't the only ones who have operated in an archaic system. The Big Ten, as a whole, needs to pull the stick out of its ass and join the show. It's not 1895 anymore. We're getting lapped, guys.

Gravatar Yeah, where's the guy that said that these kids can't make decisions because they all come from broken homes? That was good.

Gravatar EEKS,

Indeed. The only difference between Bowden's team and Paterno's is BB has access to a much richer(And decidedly less educated. I live around here) recruiting base. And yet, despite Penn State being more 'honorable' than FSU...they routinely place ahead of the Noles in the Fulmer Cup.

Gravatar Huss

Completely agreed... I wasn't contradicting, just putting in a few extra requirements of my own.

Gravatar Rodriguez went to their homes, brought a pistol, and forced them to play Russian Roullette while screaming "DI DI MAU." until they signed the LOI.

I just wish Christopher Walken and Robert De Niro were there.

Gravatar Snake oil it cures what ails ya

The new tags just keep coming.

Gravatar Obviously Shaw was kidnapped and threatened with violence. Young, athletic males are incapable of making their own decisions and only 98 year old white men with diabeetusknow what is truly good for them. Shame on Rich Rodriguez for his devious ways.

Gravatar Penn State should keep their mouths shut, at least until they do one of the following:
-Beat us in football (how does that taste?)
-Have a better BBall Program (how is it even possible to be worse than Michigan?)
-Play hockey in a real division
-Have a top-25 baseball team

WE OWN
PENN STATE

Gravatar I still don't see a problem with an early signing period.

If a kid grew up wanting to come to Michigan (let's say Dann O'Neill) and wanted to sign back in October, he should be able to. It would prevent other coaches from contacting him, and he wouldn't be addled with making a decision and dealing with the whole recruiting process.

If a kid (let's say Boubacar Cissoko) had a strong feeling that he wanted to play for Michigan but was unsure, he could wait until the late signing period. Cissoko was never really solid until the end, thus the formulated-but-unfulfilled plans to visit Tennessee, Illinois, etc.

If a kid signs a letter of intent, he'll usually be satisfied with that. It's definitive and it sets a single goal.

I'm going to Michgan. Bam.

It's when that commitment is allowed to sit and stew for a long time that he becomes shaky. If you CAN change your mind, you will CONSIDER it.

When it comes down to it, just because Roy Roundtree was allowed to sign on Feb. 6 doesn't mean it's a better decision for him than if he signed on Oct. 30 or in June '08.

An early signing period creates some problems and alleviates others.

The current signing period rules create some problems and alleviate others.

But if I were a kid who KNEW where I wanted to go, I would probably get really annoyed with phone calls, e-mails, other commits pestering me, etc. I would just want to sign a letter to get everyone off my back.

If you're unsure... just wait.

Gravatar Rodriguez went to Shaw's house a second time, only this time he brought Lucca Brazzi. He held a gun to Shaw's head, and Coach Rodriguez assured Shaw that either his brains or his signature would be on that Letter of Intent.

That's a true story, Kay.

Gravatar Magnus, that's why Vijay's NBLOI proposal is good.

Gravatar check out the video clip on espn...richrod starts crying when talkign about the death threats his kids and nephews are recieving...

WVU fans have no class, for crying out loud they are kids that are barely 11 years old.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/cl...ouse? teamId=130

Gravatar That picture was actually taken moments before Braylon ran after the bullet that he fired and caught it. And he did it all with a shirt on. Sorry ladies. I, too, was disappointed.

Gravatar Charlie Weiss is Fat.

End.

Gravatar Gotta be honest. Could've done without the crying. Watching grown men cry is awkward and creepy.

Gravatar Adidas should make Rich Rod a wizzard's hat like the one in the post for Rich to wear on the sidelines during the Purdue game. Can we make this happen?

It'd be the perfect middle finger to Tiller.

Gravatar Just to clarify How ND does it. (This was put in after the loss of Trattou and Little last year).

If a committed recruit begins to look around then ND will begin searching as well. ND does not pull the offer they simply will pursue the old recruit as well as others until a firm commit secures the spot (It may or may not end up being a new prospect). In the end it just means ND does not honor soft verbals.

Gravatar When I read the article by Fritz the Cat this morning, at first I was like OMG NO!!! But now I'm laughing. The guy is not just old; he's moldy. He didn't cite a single source. And the funny thing is that he's called an insider! It's like the newspaper found the guy with the most knowledge of CFB and labeled him the paper's insider.

It's sickening, actually. He'll write anything just so long as he can make a name for himself as an investigatory journalist, no matter how many friends he loses or people he leaves dead and bloodied along the way, just so long so he can make a name for himself as an investigatory journalist, no matter how many friends he loses or people he leaves dead and bloodied and dying along the way?

Gravatar adidas - All Day I Dream About Sorcery

Gravatar Can you really blame an ND verbal commit for looking around at other schools? I mean, there is the slight chance that the head coach might cannibalize them if he forgets to bring his Fritos for snack time.

Gravatar Exactly Tim. Exactly.

Gravatar What's creepy about RichRod crying? When it comes to family, you can't control that. And when you hear about your kids and your nieces and nephews getting harrassed because daddy moved on to bigger and better things...its frusterating, especially with all the BS WVU has been dishing out about him on top of that. Itll overwhelm the best of us.

Gravatar can one of our artistically inclined members do something with a photo of Tiller such that he resembles the "Wizard's sleeve"???

would be worth a thousand laughs

Gravatar @Willie

I've been trying to think up good t-shirts/jokes with Tiller being the sleeve for a while. I hope someone on here is more creative than me.

Gravatar Not sayin he was wrong/bad for crying, just sayin its weird to see grown men cry. I'm sure I'm not the only guy that feels this way.

Gravatar problem is, if I start photoshopping anything remotely resembling the wizard sleeve here at work-----well, that's the last you'll hear from me...........
(and if I do it from home---well, it'll be justifiable homicide for my wife; she hates MGoBlog enough as it is...

Gravatar Im getting a little obsessed with critiquing BSD. There's just so much..wrong in what they write. When Michigan flat out stunk it up in-state last year, Brian was blunt about it and offered up no excuses.

Now PSU, in a great year for in-state talent, manages to land a measly 2 of the top 25 prospects in PA..and BSD does a fabulous job trying to sugarcoat it. We're dealing with a fanbase who doesn't b

Gravatar ...believe it's shit stinks.

Gravatar ...my wife; she hates MGoBlog enough as it is...

cosigned..

- DanKs wife.

another question.. why the hell is anyone coaching at PSU? the old man won't visit recruits which puts them at an inherent disadvantage. the pay can't be that much more but you have more work, b/c JoePa just sits in a recliner all day and leaves at 3.30 for the early bird special and to get home in time for bed.

Gravatar U must watch this... WOW

move to about 4:30 to watch him scramble...

Gravatar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r...h? v=rbPLkuWMDOg

Gravatar What's wrong with borrowing a roommate's credit card? It's all free money anyway.

Gravatar Just kind of a side thought that came to mind today as I was in class: How well off would Michigan have been if Jason Forcier had NOT decided to transfer?? Mallett may have been able to taken a redshirt this past year, or RM could have started ahead of Jason, but that's a little difficult to post-speculate on. What I really found interesting was that JF was quite a mobile quarterback, and would have been a senior going into the 08-09 season. He could have adapted quite well to Coach Rod's offense; maybe not 100% ideal, but certainly serviceable. Where would that leave Michigan's quarterback situation in the future? Maybe TP would want to come and sit a year behind our mobile, senior quarterback and learn; it seems he has expressed interest in doing so in recent weeks.

Instead, Michigan is forced to have a first year starter at QB next year who will have a few years of eligibility ahead of him. Would RR give up on Threet if he gets a stud mobile QB in the 09 recruiting class? It will be interesting to find out, but I think that life would have been a lot easier around here if not for the transferring of our little known backup quarterback.

Gravatar Paterno:

-Does not wear a head set during games;

-Does not visit recruits;

-Does not hold/write on or use a clip board during the game;

-Does not speak to players during the game with a white board;

-Does not get on the phone to the booth coaches. . .

What does he do now?

Gravatar the more i read BSD these days, the more i think they are the PSU affiliate for the scout or rivals network.

i mean, it's funny sometimes and they usually admit to their basketball team just absolutely sucking... but this whole recruiting this reeeeeeeeeks of rivals/scout/local MSM sugarcoating a dogshite sandwhich.

Gravatar Well if Forcier wasn't such a primadonna, me-first, jerkhead poopy boy then we would have found out. If only he cared about The Team The Team The Team as much as he cared about his big stupid self!

Gravatar Michigan Fan-
He eats a lot of applesauce... in fact, he is Mott's #1 supporter

Gravatar BSD did at least admit The Stache is recruiting everything Penn State appears to have going for it. If any of you dare start a sex stache comment thread I will pay Barwis to destroy you.

Gravatar And by pay barwis I will tell him you're fat and you think he's overrated. That should be enough.

Gravatar @ EEKS

I don't see the necessity of the NBLOI. It seems redundant to me. Also, the more paperwork and hoops you have to jump through, the better the chance that somebody is going to make a mistake somewhere along the line (honestly or dishonestly), forget to file something, contact someone when they shouldn't, etc.

Like somebody else said, I'm a fan of fewer rules, not more.

Gravatar Quick's probably lucky he got kicked off the team. I know if someone stole money from a teammate or myself they'd catch the paddle of my goalie stick in the throat. There are no 5 minute majors in practice.

Gravatar formerly,

Well, I was going to say that Pitt has been on par with MSU for about a decade, if not worse in recent years...and complaining about Pitt outrecruiting is akin to saying Dantonio and the boys could outrecruit Michigan. It's pretty embarrassing.

But I digress, for fear of my own life.

Gravatar i voted twice for mgoblog at EDSBS.... home & work. brian's down 250 votes.... get the lead out, people.

Gravatar Forcier was decent at not fumbling garbage time snaps and handing off to backup RBs. Outside of that, hard to say.

Gravatar I've posted 2 as well for brian, used the VPN to sign on from on-campus.

Vote MGOBLOG!

Gravatar Looks like the M-Zone guy is going through some mid-life crisis. I guess I didn't know the life of a blogger was so complicated

Gravatar Some downsides to a true early signing period for a recruit would be (1) coaching changes, (2) other players turning pro or not, (3) assessing how the balance of the recruiting class will play out. True, they could just wait but it's always tempting to sign on the spot.

Gravatar I voted for EDSBS once and Brian once because I am a flip flopping son of a bitch.

Gravatar Brian, I am totally (and yes, seriously) with you on the curling reality show... (mgo.licio.us)

Yesterday's Canadian junior championships were excellent, and I can't see how a season of curling reality TV couldn't be hilarious and truly 100% Pure Canadian Awesome!

Gravatar Paterno shouts at the red headed guy.

Gravatar The non-binding LOI is interesting, except there is no way to stop a coach from asking his commits to contact those committed elsewhere and act as pawns, which happens a lot even now.

Gravatar MZone guys became too critical and negative sometime last season. They jumped the shark.

Gravatar MZone is boring, that's why they jumped the shark. Being around for a long time != good.

Gravatar MZone: i got the feeling they started posting too often. about a year ago, the content was great.... then, either the schtick got too old (osu people are toothless and have bad mustaches), or the posts were simply not that funny. or both. but that's just me.

Gravatar Stopped reading mzone months ago. The jokes were generally lame and outdated, and I can just come here for any serious updates about michigan sports.

Gravatar Another site is reporting that Fred Jackson is indeed going to Tampa, anybody know anything about this?

Gravatar If he's going to Tampa, that would be interesting. Keep him to land McGuff, then bye bye.

Gravatar What site?

Gravatar Personally I was big on Forcier as a player, had Mallett not come, I really thought Forcier was going to be the guy after Henne graduated. Forcier never did anything stupid in the limited playing time he had and he was very mobile, had a few nice scrambles. I was sad to see him leave, I'd bet that he will be the starting qb for Stanford this year.

EDSBS is going to win the people's champ award solely for the fact that people hate Michigan. Both Mgoblog and EDSBS are at the pinnacle of the blogosphere but don't think for a second that people aren't voting against Michigan.

Gravatar Or, Fred agreed to stay around til NSD was over, then would take the Bucs position.

Gravatar If he leaves are they going to rename the Fred Jackson chicken salad sandwich at the Jug?

Gravatar Scout's updated recruitment rankings show UM @ 5th.

Gravatar This is the first I've heard of Jackson and Tampa.

Any links to the rumor?

Thanks.

Gravatar bigboy; even paws is fine. Maybe Rodriguez calls the HS coach and talks to him and the HS coach talks to the player and the player gets excited.

What happens next?

Current system: kid sneaks in a trip to Ann Arbor, tells the media (and maybe the coaches) that he's 100% solid, promises it's just a courtesy, just a fallback ... and then switches his verbal.

Early signing period: kid says "Damn! I wish I hadn't signed that LOI."

Non-Binding early LOI: kid says "Wow, that changes things. Let me rescind my LOI," and the coaches he committed to *know* that the verbal is not secure. They know the kid is taking visits and it's not a courtesy and it's not a backup plan.

Gravatar the rumor was posted by a user at Hail victors.com not the essence of a reliable source, however sounded very confident.

Gravatar Thanks NYBlue

That's an interesting thought. I don't see it happening, but still very interesting. I really don't think Jackson would've convinced certain kids (McGuffie) that he's staying here and then bolt. But, what the hell do I know.

Gravatar eh, I'd guess just more noise/confused information/speculation.

Gravatar just for the record I happen to like the Mzone, but to each his own.

Gravatar great comment, ny1995....

and the coaches he committed to *know* that the verbal is not secure.

i don't know if a rule change is necessary b/c there are only 2 reasons to change it:

1) let the kids not get bothered by the recruiting process anymore than absolutely necessary.

2) makes it a bit easier on the coaches to *know* if a kid is solid or not.

so... 1) is it that much of a burden? for some, i suppose it is. 2) the coaches should know if it's a solid verbal or not anyway.

nonetheless, a good plan.

Gravatar forcier was a good guy that made a terrible decision. obviously he didn't see what was coming. you can't blame him for leaving b/c he didn't see PT in AA. however, with that said, those who stay will be champions...

Gravatar beantown -

Justin Fargas would like to discuss with you your "those who stay will be champions" theory.

Gravatar Not sure if anyone's talked about this, but the 'Eers v. RR suit has been moved back to West Virginia. Looks like they got their home game.

Gravatar lawsuit

Gravatar farwho? just roll with it.

Gravatar Wasn't Shaw the guy that wanted to visit PSU and was asked if he could back 3 weeks later because a coach wasn't going to be around?

Gravatar the nbloi is a good idea, but what then how does the recruit know if other schools are interested in him?

I think other coaches should be allowed to call him, but maybe say, only twice maximum

Gravatar If this Fred Jackson rumor is true, then I am pissed. RR waited till Guff signed his LOI, and is now getting rid of Fred Jackson because he no longer "needs" him. He's a good RB coach and RR took him on recruiting trips. But then again, I don't know if this is true.

Gravatar Pryor commits!!!!

Gravatar Football rumor mill has nothing on Fred Jackson, they are usually on top of coaching changes.

I'm not buying this rumor.

Gravatar And I like MZone. I like the posters and I find the website funny. I would like to find out who are the men behind Yost and Benny Friedman. They're most likely in their late 30s-40s, but you would think that they are younger.

I just find it interesting. I couldn't imagine a cfb blogger older than, say, 30. I just can't imagine someone with EDSBS-like humor and such a high level of interest in cfb to be that old. I also tend to think that older people are out of touch with technology, but then again, the internet has been big for about 15 years now.

Gravatar All this FRED non-sense is not about our coach, it's about some random dude named Fred Jackson

lol

Gravatar colin- good job guessing correctly.

Brian- did you get that info from me???

Gravatar There is a Fred Jackson in the Buffalo Bills organization that is not our Fred Jackson.

Gravatar As for all this NBLOI stuff, what is wrong with a kid telling another coach "fuck off, I'm going to [insert school here]"? No need for a rule to protect a kid who has (1) made up his mind, and (2) has a spine to tell other coaches "no."

Gravatar @MichiganStudent

There is an article on the web(I don't have the link) but says that Quick was rumored to have stolen a credit card and spent thousands of dollars on it. It said nothing about the card being his roommate's, but you can infer that if you put your posts and that article together... so I think that might have been what he did.

Gravatar @MichiganStudent:

http://www.buffalonews.com/sport...ory/ 272930.html

This link was published last thread. So you're in the clear.

Gravatar Re: MZone,

They still do a great job with several in season pieces. Know your foe is on of my favorite recurring pieces. They are EDSBS lite with only michigan emphasis. They aren't quite the blogger Orson is, nor do they have as wide a scope. Unfortunately out of season they just don't have an edge.

Gravatar I kind of feel bad for Forcier, cuz basically, even though you can always stay and "compete", when the coaches and the entire fan base and practically everyone in the organization is annointing Mallett as Henne's successor, he did the smart thing. Hindsight says otherwise and I really wish he stuck around regardless of Mallett sticking around, but I can't blame him. If he was given a fair shot by coaches who weren't trying to appease a 5* freshman QB (justly or unjustly so), I'd think otherwise. Something tells me Lloyd n Co. didn't pay him much mind once Mallett came. On one hand, you can't be too upset at the coaches that much b/c Mallett was the most talented QB on the roster (including Henne) and giving him experience and PT is just plain smart for the future. On the other hand, it completely alienates Forcier and the other QBs and makes them feel pretty hopeless wrt getting PT. To me, Forcier leaving doesn't get confuse/annoy me nearly as a QB who leaves when he is practically handed the starting job. Just a crappy situation overall.

Gravatar Lowell Galindo on ESPNU has got to be the biggest TOOL on the planet!

Gravatar I think Coach Soup has accepted a job at Iowa.

Gravatar We're #1 in Hockey again

Gravatar @Michigan Fan
As for all this NBLOI stuff, what is wrong with a kid telling another coach "fuck off, I'm going to [insert school here]"? No need for a rule to protect a kid who has (1) made up his mind, and (2) has a spine to tell other coaches "no."
I think its more about making the kid say "fuck off. I may not go to your school after all." This will give coaches like joepa a clue since they don't seem to get one when a kid is taking visits to other schools after he has given them his verbal.

Gravatar sorry if this has been posted:

were the leader for russell shepherd right now..and he wants to commit before his senior season. he plans on enrolling early

Gravatar Wayman, I hope to God that Fred Jackson comment was in jest.

By taking a job in the NFL, Fred Jackson would have been "booted" by RichRod? WTF? How does that make any sense at all? That's a career move that would have been made by Jackson himself. What, are people just TRYING to make up BS about RichRod now?

Bah, doesn't even matter. He's still here.

Gravatar Thanks for the update - Orlando.

It seems like we are making a nice recruiting pipeline in Tecas, there is a lot of talent there, too much for Chokelahoma and UT alone to take.

I wonder who will declare first Shep or TP?

I thought after NSD was over I could get back to my real life, now I'm worried about a kid who won't be playing until 2009...

Gravatar @Goo -

Frankly, if you can't tell Jim Tressel or Mark Dantonio to fuck off, I question whether you should be committing to Michigan.

Gravatar You should only tell Dantonio to f____ off.

A recruit should tell Tressel that they are inVESTed somewhere else.

Gravatar Agreed Michigan Fan -

A true Michigan commit would tell the Sweatervest and Dantonio to kiss his ass.

Hopefully this new commits will go 4-0 against OSU to make up for 2004's 0-4. Hell even 2-2 would be nice.

Gravatar *these not this

Gravatar PHEW! I just dont want to get shit for that...but oh well....the kid definitly messed up.

Gravatar No news re. Jackson on any other source.

Do people really think he would have abandoned McGuff less than a week after his LOI?

Give the man more credit than that.

Gravatar When I was at UM over a decade ago, I leaned over the glass at the start of the 3rd intermission of a game where Shegos had filled the penalty boxes up with 6 or 7 guys a side and yelled, "Shegos, you're a piece of shit!" Yost was dead quiet and Shegos was no more than 10 feet away when I made the disparaging remark. He looked up at me, as did Red who was emerging from the locker room. Neither looked impressed but it felt really good. I can't believe he's still calling games.

Gravatar ^ Class act.

Gravatar Hey Jon, class act THIS *I* (that's a middle finger in case you couldn't tell)

Gravatar @Jon re Shegos

^
N-O-T

Gravatar @Shegos has a brother

Hope you enjoyed your break from the assembly line.

Smoke another pack of Winstons and then get back to work please.

Gravatar @ElectricHubbahBOOB. Yeah my UM degree scored me a factory job that pays $190K annually. Bet you got me beat though so congrats stud.

Gravatar Shegos:

Read between the line...iIi

Hope you like Lynard Skynard's Freebird cause that is what is flying your way.

When Red pissed on the library he was peeing on barnacles like you.

Gravatar VAWolverine: When I have trouble starting a stream, I imagine Lynard Skynard liking pussies like you existing where the urinal cake is and I'm able to piss as free as a bird.

Hey, aren't you that horrible haiku guy? You know the guy who wrote 1,000 haikus one night, none of which were funny, and you had that one desperate girl who posted her picture on the comments thread as your captive audience?

Gravatar Shegos- You should see a urologist. Failure to start a stream indicates you have bigger problems than me.

I've never written a haiku until now.

You are not on the proper beam if you fail to start a stream.

Your problems are bigger than me if you fail to successfully pee.

I know you are a real dim whit but I hope this doesn't affect how you shit.

Have a good night fuck head.

Gravatar VAWolv: Spoken like a true dim WIT. At least spell the word correctly when you try to insult someone you idiot.

Gravatar Ugh...sometimes you men are so strange, I'll never understand. Sorry dude, nobody on here gives a shit how much money you make or how many degrees you have. This is a Michigan football blog (and sometimes other sports). Mgoblog is the great equalizer...we're all big ole blog losers. Just stop w/ the freakin d*** size comparing contests for chrissake.

Gravatar @Shegos:

I can appreciate your remark. I, for one, love reminding Vida that he's fat whenever I see him officiate.

That doesn't make us blue-collar or riff-raff. However, those who wax poetic about our lack of class strike me as rather large, well, pussies.

The world needs plenty of people like that. I rather enjoy employing them.

Gravatar I think you two are just cute. But you should get a room. This love fest is making me sick. And for the record, a shy bladder is no laughing matter. It can be very frustrating.

Gravatar @Anon:

Love fest? Hell, I'm the only person who's replied to Shegos in a non-negative light. Relating to his/her sentiment is not tantamount to an overwhelming desire to spoon.

Gravatar Yeah, but now you've gone & put the picture in my head. hehe.

Gravatar What hole did Shegos crawl out of any way?

He is the one that brought up starting a stream and pussy.

Perhaps he should be a a racier web site than what is offered here?

Gravatar Touche, Anon. And I don't mean to lash out and come across as such a dick, but I think all of the moral grandstanding re: RR, by fans and non-fans alike, has left me a little irritable. The hire, recruiting, winning... All of it leads to a "damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't" scenario.

Gravatar I bet Shegos likes this site. It is racy. I've watched this one too many times to count!

http://www.cupchicks.com/ cupchic...upchicks_us.php

Gravatar haven't we gone over this before? Do we need to bring up the cupgirls again? And just when my stomach was finally beginning to settle...

Gravatar Mgobleu- that's gutless posting that shit under my name.

Now I now why you call yourself gobleu.

Are you from Quebec?

Now I know why regualrs want posters to be registered.

Gravatar Wait, how many girls and how many cups, again...? It's so damn confusing.

Gravatar Actually, I hate the french. It actually came from an "incident" with a waiter in Lansing after the UM-MSU game in 2005.

Gravatar @VA

You're really dumb dude. No offense, but you're getting it handed to you. You should just go to bed.

Gravatar Wait, you think I posted that crap???

Gravatar I hate the French too!

Gravatar I truly was worried for the guy, and I'm glad he's ok, but that clip of Zednik gettin' a skate to the carotid is awesome.

Gravatar I am an OSU grad who runs a business here in Ohio. I recently hired a company to monitor internet usage during work at my company. I found that two of my employees (UM grads) are spending inordinate amounts of time on the internet, one on this site, the other downloading porn. After wasting an hour on this site to see the draw for this otherwise good employee, I'm ashamed to be a Michigan native and UM fan (my favorite school after OSU). Your site has cost me real money, you people need to get a life. There is now one less UM grad with a job and the other is on probation. Please take this into account while surfing on your employers dime.

Gravatar And so the punchline is that you fired the one downloading from here and put the prono on probation?

Gravatar thebucksstophere-

And, you post this now, at 11:00 p.m. to the people who are specifically NOT "surfing on your employers [sic] dime."

Interesting.

Gravatar What is going on here.

@thebuckstopshere -
you are the worst poster here ever. If any of that is true, I'm with the Nigerian lottery and you have just one a million dollars.

Gimme a break that your favorite schools are UM and OSU, what a friggin joke.

Gravatar I have paruresis

Gravatar @thebuckstopshere

I'm sure you fired a guy who spends a lot of time on this site and then came to the site where he spends all his time to comment on the matter further. You're full of shit. Although some people do spend way too much time here. That I'll give you.

Gravatar Your story is intriguing. Too bad its full of holes. First of all, I do not believe that an OSU grad is a UM fan. If so, you my friend, are the first. I also have a tough time believing that 2 UM grads are "working for" an OSU grad. But stranger things have happened so I'll let it slide. Also the fact that you come on to express your distaste for this site at 11:00 amuses me. My guess? You are an OSU troll trying to imply that UofM fans have a bad work ethic, have no lives, and use porn. Regardless, feel free to shut your fricking gob and mind your own business.

Gravatar Believe what you want. The sentiment is true whether you belive it or not. The porn downloader is gone. No business person in their right mind will tolerate porn on their computers. Since I have a business to run I can only do the management stuff like this on my down time. Now I'm going to bed.

Gravatar I doubt that buckstopshere's story is true, but there are such fans. It's weird, bu it's more of an old school thing. My friend's dad was born and raised in Ohio and went to OSU in the late 60s to early 70s (50-14 OSU game his freshman year, '69 upset his sophomore year), but he likes UM; he roots for Michigan to win every game but one. I, for one, would also like to see undefeated #1 vs #2 again, but where we finally win.

I think that it has changed a lot because of the John Cooper years. Current OSU students and youths in Columbus grew up during the Cooper years when we were winning just about every year, so they're pretty damn bitter and also lack control.

Gravatar OMG cupchicks. That is vile.

Gravatar That anonymous post moments ago was by me, about my friend's Buckeye dad and all. I stand by my word, bitches.

Gravatar @Tim Wayman

I guess I can believe you. There's this guy, too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l...h? v=liNBAvdfakg

Gravatar I referenced 2girls1cup in an essay for an exam today. I really can't wait to see my professor's reaction..

As you can tell by the above statement, I don't attend U of M...I can get away with this shit at CMU.

Gravatar If you guys like sports gambling come to our forum at www.cappingthegame.com

go blue

Gravatar Ha did anyone look at thebuckstopshere's homepage? Evidence of a complete trash/buckstache. Just pointing that out.

Gravatar Anyone notice ESPN running the scores on the bottom of the screen today for the Beanpot trophy between a bunch of shitty boston hockey teams, but over the weekend when #1 played #2, there was no mention of that?

Gravatar The weekend hockey games were on sportscenter.

Gravatar http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.d...0062/1054/ rss19

Freep has a nice little write up on Russell Sheppard. Has some quotes/info that hadn't been mentioned before.

Gravatar 2 bloggers and a post

-Notice all these coaches coming from foreign lands bringing their brand of football warfare with em...geezus like zebra mussels on the bottom of lake erie cargo ships...I say erect walls of ice around the big 10 conference and keep out foreign coaches..

Gravatar Re:thebucksstophere

Do we even have a hygenist program? I don't see him employing any other dentists, and hygenist is the next highest position in his practice according to his homepage. All employees other than him seem to be female, and somehow I don't see two UofM grad women downloading porn/talking football while being receptionists for squirrel stache here. Not impossible, I guess, but, I'm just saying...

Gravatar Damn, I just missed the guy lecturing on computer usage. Buckeyes are widely recognized as the authority on the subject....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L...h? v=L2YWMdV4Msc

About 1:40 in.

Gravatar Nice find on the video Stevie. Good times. I'll keep that bookmarked for rivalry e-mailing.

Gravatar I truly was worried for the guy, and I'm glad he's ok, but that clip of Zednik gettin' a skate to the carotid is awesome.
mgobleu | 02.11.08 - 10:37 pm | #

Awesome? How? If the skate goes a couple of millimeters in either direction, the guy probably dies. Not sure where the "awesomeness" is in this whole play.

Gravatar bada bing,

Sometimes it's hard to know where the line belongs. I agree with you that I wouldn't call the clip awesome, but since Zed is fine, I can see how someone would say that. For example, the clip of the skateboarder falling 40-some feet in the X-Games last year was something I would call "awesome" since he wasn't seriously hurt.

Gravatar “Honestly, if I get a shot at quarterback and I don’t win the job, I’ll move to another position. I have no problem being an All-American wide receiver or an All-American defensive back. I just want a chance to play quarterback.”

(from the JHS's Freep article)

Shepherd sure does seem confident in his abilities

Gravatar lol have you seen him? I would too. Just sayin

Gravatar During the runup to Signing Day (not to mention the coaching search) my productivity went in the crapper cuz I spent so much time here. I'm self-employed, so I had to fire myself. I'm sure thebucksstophere is proud of me.

Gravatar I'm pretty sure that the popularity of 2 girls 1 cup is a sign of the apocalypse.

Coprophagia should never be thought as even remotely close to being put on the map.

Gravatar The bucksstophere got busted. A religious zealot dentist with all female employees. JHS, continue to spend the hours and hours and hours you do everyday on Mgoblog.com without any fear!

Gravatar I've been wondering how you all, especially the lawyas, spend so much time posting! I'm in college and don't even have a job right now, and I don't have time to comment nearly as frequently as some. How you do it? Also, should I switch my degree to a pre-law track so that I can bill all my hours on mgoblog to my lawya clients?

Gravatar Go with Higher Education. Its like college but better. You get to be on the school side of it.

Gravatar I think I just forwarded the library masturbater video to like 30 people. That crap was priceless.

So what's the deal with the sudden spike in trolls and the use of the word "turd" or "terd" recently. anyone else notice this?

Gravatar Sorry if I missed this earlier in the thread but don't have time to re-read all the posts. If the Cup Chicks go back to being the Dixie Chicks, will there still be an apocalypse?

Gravatar reminder of the reminder::

vote mgoblog on

http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/

Polls on the right column. We're behind 478-196 or 61% to 25%. Slowly closing the gap people. Vote at home, vote at work, hire illegal mexicans from home depot to build computers for them to vote on. All you blog fags, unite!

Gravatar The posting of the cup video (I still haven't seen it but know the gist of it) has confirmed without any shred of doubt that formerly remained in my mind that this board is now complete trash. I used to read the old comments from posts in years past, and while there might be 20-50 comments/post, they were filled with comic gems and some good information. Now... not so much.

So congratulations to Brian for tremendously outgrowing his previously-tremendously small fanbase. it's just tremendous to see a quality blogger rewarded for his work. Tremendous.

Gravatar Stevie,

I see what you're saying, but I didn't see why that was a cool play. The dude falling off his skateboard was an insane clip because I have never seen anyone free fall from that height before. But with the hockey clip I could barely see what happened, and if I had not seen the instant replay I wouldn't have even realized the Zednik got stabbed with a skate. I have seen some NASCAR crashes that are cool (even though I hate racing) even though I'm sure some of the racers almost died. But the reason why it was cool is because a the car light on fire, blew up, spun in the air, etc. The hockey play seemed relatively boring to me until I saw a stream of blood on the ice.

Gravatar M - Flightsci

In all fairness to Brian, that was posted by an OSU troll during a string of tag jackings. Agreed on it being ridiculous though.

Anyone else checked out the recruiting board on Varsity Blue?

Gravatar I think we should call this blog's author "Brain"

you know, instead of Brian?

NASCAR crashes are the best because you know 100,000 SEC fans just died a little in their hearts when they happen.

Gravatar Dude, I'm in Canada the last few days, there's been more NASCAR on than hockey. I'm thoroughly disappointed. That would explain my enjoyment of crashes though. That and at the one NASCAR event I went to was as much beer as I could drink and as many kolaches as I could eat.

February = worst sports month, why on earth isn't leap year days inserted into August or September?

Gravatar Ah, good point there Mr. Bing. That's probably why I agree awesome is not the right word for it, just couldn't put my finger on it.

re: M - Flightsci

I think Brian is in a tough spot here; dare I say, a tremendously tough spot. Growing readership, but probably not big enough to spend enough money to have the optimal comments format. I know on Deadspin you are approved as a commenter after sending in "audition" comments. Obviously, that is impractical for this blog due to its size. I'm not sure if some kind of moderator would be appropriate, but that's the best option I can think of with some kind of filter less strict than Rivals and more strict than MLive. It's not perfect and it definitely has declined, but at the same time, there isn't a whole lot that can be done about it.

Gravatar I think Pope Gregory XIII predicted the Appalachian State loss and inserted the extra day into February so that we would leave September a little bit faster.

Gravatar Mr Yzerman-
I agree with what you are saying, but the point I'm trying to make is that a registration process similar to some forums should not be that difficult... after all, the man did graduate with a (2?) computer engineering degree from U of M.

I suppose this may not be all that high on Brian's list of priorities though. He used to participate in comments-section discussions back in the day. I somewhat doubt he even reads most of them now.

Gravatar FWIW, here's my early observations on who will commit to us early in the 09 class..

-At QB, I really think Tate Forcier will follow in his bros footsteps and come here to compete. Top 250ish kind of guy. A more fluid Matt Grothe.

-Cass Tech is turning into a freaky deaky talent school, and RB Teric Jones is the latest example of that. Ran the fastest 40 at the junior Army combine(and measured in at a solid 5'10 190), and you'd think he'd be a lock due to our success with Booboo and Campbell. This is huge year for RB in Michigan, with Larry Caper obviously topping them all. We've got 4 blue-chippers in the state this year, and I think will nab Teric and at least one more.

-At WR, you might as well pencil in Josh Gordon if we offer him. 4 star out of Houston who grew up an M fan. He's 6'4 210, and Michigan is recruiting a few more blue chippers who fit the mold we're used to...so no worries about RichRod ignoring size at WR. Nu'Keese Richardson, who played with Martavious at Pahokee and is just as small(and talented...top 100 kinda guy) also figures to jump on board. Loves Michigan, reports claim.

-Killed it at Oline in 08, but we can use a few more. Chris Freeman is a 4-star out of Michigan's favorite highschool, Trotwood(OH). We've got to have the inside track there. On the radar for most highly-ranked, athletic linemen in the region.

-Unfortunately, not a whole lot to get excited about yet at DE. According to Varsity Blue, we're not leading for anybody on the radar yet. Long way to go, though.

-On the radar big time with uber LB prospects like Dorian Bell and Jaydan Bird.

-At corner, there's another Trotwood connection with Tony Graham. 4-starish kid who's a must get. In pretty good shape with Damien Thigpen and JT Turner as well - both top prospects, especially Thigpen.

-Safeties a jumbled mess. So many good prospects out there, very few clear cut leaders for any of them.

Okay, I need sleep now. Just thought I'd help out my fellow recruiting-obsessed wolverine fans.

Gravatar M - Fli

Good call. I forgot about Brian's expertise. Trust me, I'm with you on this one. I think Brian said something about refining the comments before next season. Can't come soon enough. Now I'm going to read Huss' new book above.

Gravatar Campbell is such a beast at 6-4 327. Not bad to start the class with a top 15 guy.

Gravatar Has anyone else suggested a tshirt with a picture of JoePa with "Applesauce is delicious" printed under it?

Gravatar Nu'Keese Martavious Pahokee

Just thought I'd repeat those. Honestly I can't argue with any of Huss's observations. With the limited knowledge of the new guys, which I imagine will continue to be minimal until I start to really care in late november, most of it just makes sense. Anything else I add would be of the "duh" material, such as more names will pop up as next high school season starts up.

I wouldn't mind seeing Mason Waters (OL) come up to Michigan. I saw him play live when I visited my old baseball coach (previously coached at Frenship). The kid was a beast at tackle. I had no idea he was as good of a student as he was. He might not have M listed yet, but I imagine we could at least garner interest over Stanford and Northwestern.

Gravatar StevieY-

You're correct about Brian's intention to revamp the comments. I can't find the post and I think he only mentioned it once=my thinking it's not a real high priority

We applaud the effort Huss.

Gravatar Someone mentioned a possible switch to wordpress around the time of changing comment format. I'm somewhat surprised Haloscan can't be limited to users who sign in. I would imagine it would work similar to the system Brian has to limit blogpoll to the blogroll. Perhaps its just me hoping mgoboard makes a resurgence.

Gravatar Time for bed. Thanks for the recruiting info Huss.

Gravatar I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before or not, but we did swipe a Northwestern recruit once. Some large-boned quarterback who was an All-State DE selection in Wisconsin. I think he worked out alright, just don't tell David Terell I said that.

Gravatar Nice assessment Huss. Either you work in the AD or you have too much time on your hands.

The bodies aren't even cold from the 08 class and you have the foundation for 09 set.

Hey, can you give me a summary on my kid. He'll be a freshman in HS next year. HAHAHAHAH!

Gravatar Hi guys

I went to the dentist yesterday but it was terrible- the secretary was really ugly and pleasuring herself to some vile pornography behind the desk.

Pretty sure the dentist is gay, NTTAWT, because he worked with a bunch of girls and was always giggling. It sure didn't look like he was banging any of them either.

Gravatar who is the friggin' retard, dex? dude, go to a moron board and tell someone who gives a fuck.

Gravatar Hey, do you think Calvin Magee has issues with WVU? He sounds like Woody Hayes talking about "that state up north."

Quotes:

"Everybody knows where Ann Arbor is opposed to that other place, believe me."

"At the other place, Kevin was our type guy."

Gravatar Hey, another Barwis report...

I spoke to a friend who is very close to the program yesterday and asked about the off season conditioning. I apologize if this has already been discussed.

He said the lifts took a little adjusting (sounded like Mundy's comments) but that the toll on the body seems the same as under Gitt as far as lifting goes.

The major difference has been the amount of running. Specifically the amount of sprints.

The guys are set in teams during the off season for conditioning purposes. Everything is competitive. The losing team runs more. If one player is late for a team, the whole team runs.

Players get points for academic performance, communnity service, etc. and lose points for skipping classes or activities.

Apparently Slocum missed a week of class and his team had to run roughly 4 hours because of it.

Sounds like the guys are working their a$$es off in this program, with lots of kids buying in. I am going to be excited to see the results this fall.

Gravatar Another intersting post on the board at Rivals:

"J.B. Fitzgerald will be a captain here someday. Mark it down. Genuine, likeable ... just a great kid.

He said he loves the changes in the weight room. He didn't play basketball this year, as you probably know, so he could spend more time in the weight room, even though he was only 10 rebounds short of 1,000, and he's been busting his butt. When he visited Michigan State, he said, 'I knew right away ... it's just not Michigan.'

Loves the new coaching staff and can't wait to get started. We'll have more in a story tomorrow."

Gravatar @xyz

wtf?

Gravatar Apparently Slocum missed a week of class and his team had to run roughly 4 hours because of it.

The Fuck Lion ain't gonna walk itself.

Gravatar Contrast this Rodriquez philosophy (which was Lloyd's philosopy) of good grades with this story (old, I admit) on OSU.

I have defended Tressel in the past, but this story makes it harder to do so.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/ne...tory? id=1919255

Gravatar Did everyone see that Scout has our class ranked 5th Nationally. 3rd or 4th IF we can still get Pryor.

Thoughts???

Gravatar @ Andy

If we get Pryor, I don't care what anyone says - this was the best job of recruiting in the country. To pull in a bunch of 4-stars late (Smith, Barnum, Robinson, Hill, etc.) was a feat in itself.

Gravatar While I've been painted as a Tressel lover here for some of the times I've "defended" them, I have no problem believing their academic program is probably lacking at times.

However, when I read this:

But his coursework included four credits for playing football, three for Tressel's Coaching Football class, 10 for remedial reading, 10 for remedial math and three for Issues Affecting Student Athletes. Six other credits wouldn't transfer because he earned D's in two classes.

I do have to wonder, at what point is this kid supposed to take a modicum of responsibility for his classes? I'm not saying he should be battling the powers at OSU to get into Advanced Physics, but is he that surprised when he finds out "Issues Affecting Student Athletes" doesn't transfer, or his Tressel Football Class isn't worth much outside of playing football at OSU?

Gravatar I will be very surprised if we don't pull in at least one big-time DE recruit in 2009. There will be an immediate opportunity for playing time. Jamison will have graduated. If Brandon Graham sticks around for his senior season, it would likely be Graham and Patterson starting in their final year.

After that, it's only Greg Banks and Ryan VanBergen.

Gravatar Where is everyone? Do I have to work today?

Gravatar dex

Have you grown your Sex Mustache yet?

No? Then that's why no one wants to talk to you. There, I said it.

Gravatar 9 visitors online. I think that's a new record...

Gravatar i was on saturday morning and there were only 4 on

Gravatar xyz needs an attitude adjustment from this gay buckeye dentist and Slocum's fuck lion.

Why isn't "Fuck Lion Care 3400" a 4-credit course?

Gravatar Wow, I just read that Moldanado story. Fuck Jim Tressel and fuck OSU. I can tell you for a fact that this does NOT happen at the University of Michigan.
Congrats, Bucks, this is the cost of selling your soul just to win the last 6 out of 7. You now have an "eligibility mill." Good for you.
I think 2-10-1 scarred that school. Scarred them bad. They are so hell bent on "NEVER AGAIN" that they take whatever shortcuts necessary to keep their semi-pro players eligible. And when Gholston "mysteriously" loses 35 pounds of muscle and a step and a half, don't fucking TELL me he wasn't on steroids.

Gravatar CAUP '91-

Those guns were all natural man.
http://menofthescarletandgray.co...-anyone-forgot/

(has anyone noticed the icon in the address bar for the above website looks suspiciously like a pot leaf?)

You have to think this is going to bite OSU in the ass at some point. These violations are so blatant that the NCAA would have to purposely be looking the other way for them to go unnoticed. I hope word of these washed-up former HS superstars makes its way to the ears of future recruits. Look what happens when you go to OSU... if you're lucky, you'll play a weak schedule and then lose to an SEC team in the MNC... if you're not, you'll get hurt, be cut off from the university, and have no future whatsoever because you've been failed by the academics of the football eligibility-mill institution.

Gravatar If Ghoulston loses muscle and speed in the NFL, it'll be due to the Hepatitis he contracted in Columbus, certainly not due to the stringent drug testing of the NFL.

Gravatar @cfaller

I'm rocking my sex mustache right now. *

*may not be rocking actual mustache

Gravatar Looks like the moratorium of all things Fab 5 on UM campus has come to an end. Looks like they are getting desperate for some basketball recruits and having those guys associated with the program again will definitely perk that up. Should we expect contributions to the JRF from Chris and Juwan in the near future along with appearances on campus?

http://www.mgoblue.com/basketbal....aspx? id=108356

Oh and BTW, Jalen seems to have cleaned up real nice in the picture.

Gravatar I love the comments about OSU's academics and discipline, yet UM still has Ezeh (drunk driver - no penalty), Mathews (cleated that Oregon player - no penalty), Slocum (academic poster child), Arrington (woman beater/drunk driver), etc. etc.

You guys are straight up owned by us. Football, basketball, hockey, wrestling... the beat goes on.

Gravatar While I do find it entertaining when any big time college program points fingers at another for academics/ethics/anything non sports related, I find it equally pathetic when someone who isn't an athlete for said school presently (i.e. everyone commenting on blogs) claims to "own" another via the performance of their athletic teenage surrogate competitors.

Gravatar Slocum would be a dean's list student at OSU. U of M professors just don't respect fuck lion care as much as OSU "teachers."

Gravatar mtzlblk:

correct me if im wrong, but jalen never took any money during his u of m tenure?

Gravatar I know you were just being funny haha, but the NFL drug-testing system is WAYYYY more stringent and effective than anything the NCAA has in place.
My brother knew the guy who supplied steroids to Tony Madarich, the epic NFL bust from Michgan State.

And don't underestimate the gravity of Michigan clearing out the football staff and program that had been in place since 1969. That was a gigantic move for our incredibly conservative athletic department. That was Michigan's equivalent of pushing the red button.

Gravatar @Big Gay Heart -

Jalen was never implicated (or described without actually being named) in the NCAA's final report. Chris Webber, Louis Bullock, Mo Taylor, Robert Traylor, and Voshon Leonard (went to Minnesota) were. Jalen, Juwan, Ray and Jimmy were never disassociated from the program. Of the Fab Fivers, only Webber was confirmed to be on Ed Martin's take. Webber was to be disassociated from the program for ten years - i.e. no contact - following the NCAA's ruling.

Further, because the real dirt on Martin/Webber, etc. came up during a Federal prosecution where people had to spill to get plea deals and so forth, I think it is reasonable to assume that had Jalen been on the take as well that he would also have been "named" in the NCAA report. ("Named" is in quotes because the NCAA report - yes, I have read the entire thing - refers to Webber as "Student Athelete A" or some such psuedonym to protect his privacy, though the facts describing how "A" received benefits from Martin as early as his sophomore year in H.S. make it clear that they are referring to Webber.)

Gravatar Supposedly Jalen was clean during his tenure at UM. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Webber the only member of the Fab Five who took money? Most of the money exchanged hands after they were gone, i.e. Louis Bullock, Tractor Traylor, Maurice Taylor.

Gravatar Thanks M Fan, you beat me to it.

Gravatar Hypo,

"You guys are straight up owned by us. Football, basketball, hockey, wrestling... the beat goes on."

First, your intellect is astonishing. Second, you do realize that our hockey team is #1 in the nation and OSU's hockey team is....well they suck! Pretty sure that our wrestlers are better as well. Why you chose to included those teams is beyond me.

Gravatar Hypocrit - wha?

Owned in every sport? I am aware of the football record, of recent (no arguing, you have been winning with Tressel) and overall (you do not own us, we are leading), and owning our basketball team is really nothing to brag about right - I'm pretty sure 9 or so Big Ten teams are "owning" us...

but tell me about wrestling and hockey? we are ranked first in the nation in hockey, and as for wrestling, winning a match by one point at home, when the two teams are ranked #6 and #7 in the country does not qualify as owning.

Gravatar @caup

I'm well aware of the NFL drug policy- but if Ghoulston is roiding now I don't think there is any chance he quits when he gets to the NFL. I'm not one to just jump on big guys as "omg roids" because I've seen plenty of guys in the gym with freaky genetics and dedication that look insane and plenty of guys on roids who look like shit, so I try to refrain from judging soley on appearance. Anyway, point being, plenty of guys get caught juicing in the NFL every year (including basically the entire 2003 Super Bowl runner up Panthers) and all evidence points to many more not getting caught. If he's using now, he'll continue to use in the NFL until he gets caught. That's all I'm saying.

Gravatar BGH - not sure, I'm no scholar on the situation. I think he was implicated by association and it is hard to believe that nothing occured, even though it may never have been proven. In an attempt to be objective, if the situation involved OSU players, UM fans (many of them, anyway) surely would paint broad strokes and include him as 'tainted' even if there was never any formal 'charge'.

I think the University has been pretty chilly to the whole group for a long time and has not really welcomed them back to campus in any formal way. I, for one, am glad to see that end if only b/c the BBall team is in dire need of some help, spark, whatever and if those guys could pop up for recruiting I think it would be a big boost. I actually think they owe it to the University.

Is the University selling out to welcome them back? I think that depends on how they do it, but in essence I don't think so. If they suddenly start to trumpet Fab 5 accomplishments and employ them in a full court press for recruiting, yeah that would trouble me. Being part of a scholarship fund and being subtly and individually associated with the program, at this point I don't think that presents an issue.

The penalties and fallout from the scandal has far exceeded the level of the infractions, so I think we are due a little boost.

Gravatar Jalen has been plenty vocal in the past about wishing he was more involved in Michigan basketball, so I'm sure he is open to any opportunities available to help recruiting.

Gravatar Hopefully including opening up that bank account and calling in some favors.

Gravatar @Hypo

Since bringing up superiority in wrestling is rather random on a football message board, here is a smattering of other non-revenue sports, which showcase OSU's clear superiority to UM.

Baseball: (2008 preseason) #13 UM in nation, OSU unranked

Field Hockey: UM beat OSU, won Big Ten Title in 2007

Men's Swimming: UM beat OSU twice (just last week) and is ranked #4 in nation, OSU #13

Women's Cross Country and Track: UM has won 4 of last 5 XC Big Ten Titles (OSU has been last a few times), Track is currently ranked #4 in nation, OSU is unranked, and refused to run UM in dual meet b/c it would have been such a disgrace

Volleyball: UM beat OSU twice in 2007 and made Sweet 16, OSU finished under .500 (in your coaches final season)

Gravatar that should be coach's, not coaches... those football coaching classes with Lloyd don't focus on grammar too much

Gravatar Let's set things straight -

No one "owns" Michigan in Ice Hockey.

Michigan holds:

9 NCAA National Championships (more than any other school)
17 consecutive NCAA Tournament streak (longest streak ever and still active)
30 NCAA Tournament appearances (first NCAA tournament was 1948)
22 NCAA Tournament "Frozen Four" appearances
17 Regular Season Conference Championships (disbursed among memberships in the WCHA, CCHA and Big Ten)
7 CCHA Conference Tournament Championships
61-28-11 All Time Record v. Ohio State
127-117-18 All Time Record v. Michigan State

1438 All Time Wins(since 1/12/1923)
1 Hobey Baker Awards Winner (Brendan Morrison 1998)
Winningest Goalie in NCAA History(Marty Turco - 2-time National Champion)

Go on. I dare you to mention how Red took a leak in a parking lot (like that's never been done in Columbus or East Lansing).

Gravatar If someone has never gotten drunk and pissed in a public place, I question their manhood.

Gravatar Unless you are going to mention it as Dex did, I dare you to bring up Red's public piss.

Gravatar and Men's Track beat OSU in a dual meet a few weeks ago.

Gravatar The NFL drug testing system is a joke. Most people don't know this, but, unless a player has tested positive for a banned substance, they are NOT subjected to random drug testing. That means a player can take steroids or other banned substances such as cocaine or marijuana the entire offseason and then stop in time for them to clear out of their systems before the first drug test at the start of training camp.

Players continue to get bigger, stronger and faster. This doesn't happen naturally. Human beings don't bench press 500 lbs., weigh 260lbs and run a 4.7 40 without artifical assistance. Don't forget that human growth hormone isn't even tested for by the major sports leagues.

Gravatar HGH isn't tested for because there is no reliable test to use for it, not because the league doesn't want to.

Gravatar Frankly, drugs and roids in the NFL just isn't a "big deal" like it is in baseball. Merriman got busted for PEDs and sat out 4 games earlier this season. He was and is one of the best players in the NFL. It was met by the media and fans with a giant YAWN.

Gravatar @Dex - that is partially true. There is no reliable urine test for HGH, but it can be detected by blood testing. MLB Union won't allow for blood testing, though, because of "privacy" issues. I'm sure the NFLPA is the same way.

Gravatar I think baseball is only a big deal because of the fact they simply didn't test for it for so long. While the NFL isn't an uber-policy by any means, it is at least a test. Baseball ignored the issue for years- and then it really caught fire when someone the media already didn't like (Bonds) was poised to position himself as the greatest player of all time, and PEDs were suddenly a very convienent way to go after him. Which led to the long media cycle where it seemed like he was the only user, to the current era when we know a ton of guys were on them and that while they certainly can help maintain your performance as a career wears on, it's also becoming clear PEDs aren't magic bullets that turn also-rans into superstars as evidenced by a lot of other names in the Mitchell Report.

Gravatar @Michigan Fan

True, blood testing is available but is expensive and unlikely to be implemented by any league for the privacy issues you brought up. The NFLPA consented to a urine test for hGH in the future but denied the blood test.

Gravatar the NFL is a joke. it isnt football. at this point, i feel like it has more in common with pro wrestling than anything else. refs decide games, the media is obsessed with details of minutia but overlook things that matter (like stats, player performance, thugs like merriman who cheat). its devolved into a three hour televsion program that revolves around people trying to sell us shit. the message that major media outlets and the league itself is sendign seems to be: "the NFL season is 24/7 and if you don't like it, you're a gaping pussy."

for me, no thanks.

Gravatar I am an Indian male. You white subjects, open a path for me with red carpet into Michigan Medical School. I will rock it because I am smart, capable, and better than you.

Also, I want other yellow and black subjects to give me a scholarship, or I will not cure your cancer in 20 years. Do it now, I am not kidding.

Gravatar Dex,

Yes, its true that there isn't a reliable test for hgh, but, don't kid yourself. The NFL DOES NOT want to eradicate performance enhancing drugs from the league. If they did, they would have random, unannounced drug testing for EVERY player, not just the ones who have failed a prior drug test. In reality, most fans (including myself) don't give a shit if players use drugs. Its their choice.

Gravatar @Jay

Like you, I don't give a shit about PEDs.

However, I think you are forgetting the Union when it comes to drug testing. If there was no Union, sure, the NFL would randomly drug test anyone whenever they felt like it. But good luck getting the Union to agree to that. I think the drug policy, which I do believe to be among the best in pro sports despite the obvious flaws, is probably one of the best programs they could come up with while still getting the players on board.

Gravatar I wish the NFL season was 24/7/365, but unfortunately the human body can't sustain that type of punishment yet. In the future though, when the Fox Football Robot has been mass produced, I will be constantly entertained.

Gravatar When did ESPN turn into the Enjoy Smearing People Network? Seriously, it's a new person every three months or so. Everyone is fair game with them. Bonds, Clemens, T.O., and even my boy RichRod himself. I'm not defending all these oxnews of sports. Do you guys agree or think it's just important news that needs this much attention?

Fuck Pryor! Get Shephard!

Gravatar wrestling is better than pro football

Gravatar NFL > anything else ever

Gravatar Sadly, fucking Matt Millen and the Detroit Lions have killed my enthusiasm for the NFL. Actually, just sitting down watching an NFL game has become more and more idfficult the last few years. I just don't think its a very good product. I find myself getting terribly bored while watching a game nowadays. The NFL has overextended itselves by trying to make it a yearround league with combine coverage, hyping of free angency and going overkill with draft coverage. They've oversaturated the market.

Gravatar Can somebody please let Pryor know that Varun Bhandakar isn't going to cure cancer unless Pryor commits to Michigan? I don't think TP wants that on his conscience.

Gravatar @BGH

You are ignoring all the pageantry and honor that is associated with all professional sports. What about all those kids that look up to the athletes and learn valuable lessons about integrity and sportsmanship?

Pro sports is all about history, tradition and overall dedication to a team.

Yeah, that.....pulling tongueout of cheek now.

I cannot bear to watch even 5 seconds of professional sports, they all just give me a big rubbery one. Any time I am suckered into attending any kind of event I immediately remember why the moment there is a lull in the 'action' longer than 3 seconds and the stadium/arena begins to blare loud, bad music riffs...like the 'We are the champions BOOM BOOM CLAP' thing...I just think get me out of here. Dog forbid that I have 3 seconds of down time to turn and speak to the people I came with.

Gravatar Q: You wanna know why I have too much time on my hands right now?
A: Because I looked up all 24 sports in which M and OSU field NCAA teams and found out which school has the clearly superior team over the last 18 months.

The results?

Michigan has 13 clearly superior teams to OSU's 10. There was one sport where the two teams are virtually even, in wrestling.

Gravatar MRG you a perceptive man.

Gravatar Braylon -- bring that scope up to your eye, don't hunch down over it. You won't ever hit Buckeye or anything else like that.

Gravatar caup 91, go to class and be a doctor like me.

Gravatar You are ignoring all the pageantry and honor that is associated with all professional sports. What about all those kids that look up to the athletes and learn valuable lessons about integrity and sportsmanship?

^^^
This is exactly why some of us like pro sports better than college sports. You get tired of canned arena music and so do I, but I get really tired of hearing a fight song 200 times over 3 hours, watching a shit marching band, and listening to old ladies tell me about the tradition and honor of School A.

I love Michigan, but it's the only college team I'll watch live.

Gravatar magnus,
reponse to your comment in last htread...

magnus,
your right, as soon as a wrote that, i knew better, otherwise, illegal touching could occur behind the line, by and olinemen and not be illegal.. however i know that only eligible numbers are allowed to catch passes downfield in highschool, so you have to be both eligible by formation, and by number.. in nfl you report as eligible.. so what is the rule in college? is it eligible only by formation? that doesnt make sense to me....otherwise there would be no need for number specific positions in collge.....

a wr for instance could where 52 becasue he is still eligible by formation....

im thinking long was able to catch a pass behind the line of scrimage becasue he was eligible by position, but would NOT have been able to go downfield, becasue he was inegible by number... but i really dont know the rule in college...

Gravatar @ Varun Bhandakar

We are praying for your forgiveness. Also, please bring us the vindaloo we ordered or no tip for you, sir.

Jim and Tammy Faye (Baker)

Gravatar As far as oversaturating the market, I understand this is primarily a college fanbase and I'm in the minority on people who like the NFL better, but I think the league's bank account would beg to differ about being overexposed. When they quit making record profits and the Super Bowl isn't yearly rated as one of the most watched TV events in history, they might scale back the coverage.

Gravatar Jim and Tammy,

I thank you for your humbleness, and your acknowledgment of my prowess and superiority. As for the vindaloo, I make.

Gravatar dex

you owe me 5.45 for the baconater that I bought for you yesterday at Michigan league, before I go off doing my cancer research

Will you pay back soon?

Gravatar @Varun

I don't owe you shit, I told you I wanted Subway and you brought me back some microwaved "bacon" burger.

Gravatar @gsims
IIRC in college a player can be any number he pleases, the only rule is that there cannot be two of the same number on the field at a time. Example: VaTech used to have a TE in the 90's and Az. State used to have a DE #1. Henne and Brinton were both #7 which is fine as long as they are not on the field at the same time.

Gravatar dex

there is no subway at the michigan league. Your indian maja raja makes no mistakes.

Gravatar Any update on how many necks, or spirits, Barwis has broken lately?

Gravatar jhs,

so there is no eligible and ineligable numbers in college?

Gravatar You are right, I was thinking of the Union obviously.

Gravatar Must have been some other Indian tranny that bought me lunch the other day then- sorry I don't remember our encounter.

Gravatar i think you are wrong jhs,

below 50 is eliglbe, above 79 is eligible....

not sure what your point is about a de wearing 1 or a qb wearing 7

Gravatar Why don't you guys just stick your heads out of your bedrooms and speak to each other in person?

Gravatar Because I'm in an office in a city not called Ann Arbor and if anyone here has a bedroom near me, I'd be really shocked since this isn't an apartment building.

Gravatar Diabeetus!

Gravatar Dex - I can see that about college sports too. Point taken.

Gravatar Man! Slow day on M Blog.

Braylon needs to bring the rifle up a bit but not too close to the eye. Kickback will leave a nice BLOOD RING around the eye. Doh!
