i just cast the vote that evened the yvengi poll.

and i just had my cherry popped (i think). what a day.

I'll gladly read this the next time I have a couple of free hours. I'm at work and I want to read this! My boss has good eyes....

Gravatar I'd gladly read that if I wanted to be some sort of doofus football geek. Instaed I'll just crack open a bunch of beers and let some doofus football geek explain it to me via the "television" come this fall.

Gravatar Is reading that bad?

Gravatar My head hurts.

Gravatar This must be a record for posts in a week - and its only Thursday!

Gravatar i seriously couldnt read through the 2007 preview... it was just too sad.

Gravatar Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but which banner is the "Minor" banner? Is that referring to Brandon Minor?

By the way, I like Yvgeni's banner, but I don't like that the picture appears to be low-resolution.

Gravatar "television"?

Gravatar I think Brian is personally killing all Michigan blogs with all of these posts lately. The quality, quantity, and frequency is unheard of. Bravo to you sir.

Gravatar Argh, like the worst situation to pitch to Pujols here.

Gravatar Bleh.

Gravatar Fuck I hate the Cardinals.

Nice the Lions first rounder - is on a year's probation for him beating some guy - and the 2nd rounder was arrested 6 days before the draft! Gimme a fucking break - fire millen!

Gravatar Fucking piece of shit Gene Lamont!!!

Gravatar Shef homer!

Gravatar fuck
yeah.

chef, baby.

Gravatar what the hell is a dane sardinah?

Gravatar A catcher. Career backup, Minor league guy who has had a couple shots in the MLB.

He's from Hawaii.

Gravatar Why is he on the tigers roster?

Gravatar Are you kidding me?

Who does Lamont want to win this game?

Gravatar Inge to DL, he's the only major-league ready catcher they have.

Gravatar You guys hear about the mini-me sex tape?

Gravatar That fat fuck Lamont has cost the Tigers 2 fucking runs today. In essence, he's cost them a potential victory and wear and tear on the bullpen.

Gravatar Didn't realize Inge was hurt.

Gravatar He strained his oblique putting a pillow behind his kid's head.

I am not joking about this.

Gravatar JHS,

Yes. I am much more curious to see the Amy Fischer sex tape. I've always thought she was kind of hot.

In a slutty, attempted murdering whore kind of way.

Gravatar I hear at the end of the tape, she gets shot in the face.

Gravatar Yeah, there is a story in the Freep about Inge's injury.

Looks like he just re-aggravated it doing soemthing with his kid and a pillow.

Jay, I think it's a stretch to say Lamont cost them a run with Hollimon, but damn, he's a fuck up.

Gravatar Jay -

maybe VH1 can get Amy Fisher and Mini-Me together for a sex tape.

Gravatar BGH,

Might be. I've just had it with that fat tub of goo getting runners gunned down because of his dumb, fat fucking ass.

Gravatar JHS % MRG,

Can we throw Kim Kardashian in the mix as well?

That would be one damn entertaining threesome.

Gravatar I'm with you, Jay.

Gravatar Maybe we can throw in Paris, Colin Ferrell and Fred Durst and get "VH1's one night only celebrity sex orgy?"

Gravatar Kim K only likes black dudes or white dudes that pretend to be black dudes. Maybe her sister needs some exposure?

Gravatar Nice start to the inning by Granderson.

Gravatar for any NBA any fans YBL via SI is reporting Yi to the Nets for Richard jefferson.

Nets may as well dump Vinsanity now...

Gravatar I like it. Add Gene Simmons (not gsimmons), Pam Anderson, Vince Neil, the corpse of Jimi Hendrix, R Kelly, and a thirteen year old with a rain coat to the roster.

Seems like a bit of a sausage fest though.

Gravatar For the love of god, get a hit here Cabrera.

Gravatar If that's true and Milwaukee gets value with their pick tonight (and w/ Hammond picking, I think they will) they won't be terrible for much longer.

Gravatar Ok, it's up to our favorite twink, Thomas.

Gravatar Ok Clete just pull a Major League 2 and step into one.

Gravatar If there's one thing Clete Thomas can do, it's look confused. If there's two things Clete Thomas can do, it's look confused and take a bases loaded walk.

Gravatar come on.

Gravatar atta boy, clete.

you confused, hairless little man.

Gravatar When healthy, Sheff changes the complexity of this offense.

Gravatar less read, more pictures

Gravatar good eye clete - this was a big win - tigers are staying hot hopefully they can keep it up.

Gravatar Big Gay - agree - a healthy Sheff really makes a difference, he may be over the hell but he can still mash with the best of them.

Gravatar They're wiining games the right way. And by the right, I mean decent clutch hitting, decent to good SP, and marginal bull pen performance.

Gravatar @ bgh: I agree. If he keeps hitting/drawing walks and can finally slide comfortably back into the 3 spot, that would add another dimension. No use getting on base when the likes of Dane Sardinha and Mike Hollimon are hitting behind you.

Gravatar Sheff always homers when I have him on the bench.

Gravatar Maize - that is the way fantasy baseball works - thats why I never have extra positional players - that way I can never bench a guy when he has a good game.

-100000 points for that. There is no such thing as winning the wrong way. You must be the kind of person that insists "they were the better team even though they lost".

Gravatar Is the AL really that much better than the NL - the O's are destroying the cubs and the Royals have been red hot in IL play.

Gravatar Oh, and Grandy is finally coming on too. That helps. Can't believe these teams combined for 25 hits and only scratched out 5 runs including two on bases loaded walks.

Hah, don't take away my points.

I guess what I'm trying to say is this team is starting to win in the manner that they were built: with starting pitching that keeps them in the game so that the offense can produce. We knew going into the season that the 2-1 type of victory wasn't going to happen very often, but 5-4, etc would be realistic. It's nice to see run production when it matters. For instance, they didn't put up a lot of runs today, but those 2 intentional walks in the 10th were huge. Pitchers can't go directly at the Tigers lineup in the same way they were in April and May.

Gravatar Is the AL really that much better than the NL - the O's are destroying the cubs and the Royals have been red hot in IL play.
Jim Harbaugh Scramble | Homepage | 06.26.08 - 4:48 pm | #

Yes because the GMs in the NL are retarded. They insist on playing the game "the right way" despite clear evidence that they are stupid. I have to find the article from earlier this year that said "Pat Burrell is more of an American League type player". Personally, I had no idea they played baseball differently in the leagues.

big gay heart | Homepage | 06.26.08 - 4:52 pm | #

All teams are, by definition, built this way. I don't think any team is built with the intention of having the starting pitching allow 7 runs in 3 innings and then the bullpen holds them while the offense puts up at least 8 runs. Despite what Bonderman in the 1st inning, Robertson and Willis have made it look like so far this year.

Gravatar No offense, but are you guys really running a baseball game thread?

Fuck, go ahead and take offense to my question if you want.

Gravatar That does it, I'm breaking out all my football scheme books tonight. Outstanding stuff--wait, guys, did you want to talk about baseball some more? Do we need George Carlin to crawl out of the morgue and talk some sense into you people? Dogfuckers.

Gravatar Daniel, you're missing the point. Of course, no team is built to give up 7 runs in the first three innings. But when we're talkign about sustainable winning- what the Tigers need if the y want to get back into this thing - we're talking about some sort of balance to mitigate the obvious bullpen deficiency. It's good sign because I believe they can maintain this sort of play.

Gravatar Dearest Cubs,

Play like this more often you dirty rapscallion sons of bitches.

Sincerely,

big gay heart | Homepage | 06.26.08 - 4:59 pm | #

No, I'm not missing the point at all. You're whole argument comes down to, "The Tigers are hitting and pitching better, so they are winning sustainably now." As opposed to when they weren't pitching and hitting well, and were NOT winning sustainably, which was evidenced by being TWELVE games under .500.

Actually, its because players in the National League do shit like this to GMs who want to demote players to the bullpen...

Gravatar epic fail

http://www.abcnews.go.com/Sports...tory? id=5249488

Gravatar Jesus christ, guy.

Look at the problems they had before: SP shows up, offense doesn't. Or, they're winning by putting up 10, 11, 12, 19 runs. And then putting up 2 the next day and losing. Or, giving up 2 runs one day and 10 the next.

The point, you dick hole, is that they're getting consistent play out of the two factions that were woefully inconsistent in April and May.

The less peaks and valleys, the better I like their shot at getting into the playoffs.

Gravatar It wasn't meant to be a deep insight, just a general comment. I'm glad my team won.

Gravatar I don't really know much because we haven't done many Tigers games this year, but I know if they get cosistent pitching and cosistency from the hitters they can be a good team. Not a great team because there aren't any great teams anymore, but they can be cosistent. It's wide open this time of year. With Gary Sheffield back, they should be more cosistent over the rest of the season.

Gravatar thanks to brian, i think i actually understood the first football play of my life. i feel like a kid in junior high who just learned his first french words in foreign language class: french still sounds like gibberish to him, but seems slightly less alien, and more accessible now.

now if i can only get a grasp on hockey... still looks like a pinball machine with 10 guys on skates as the pinballs.

Gravatar Thank you SCOTUS for affirming the 2nd Amendment today.

Nicely done.

Gravatar guns suck.

grow some balls and learn to fight like a man.

Gravatar Brian, thanks for this post. Excellent analysis.

Alls I knows is that, as devastating as the zone stretch play may have been in 2006 (the year UM ran it to perfection) and parts of 2007, Hart seldom scored a homerun TD jaunt of 10 yards or more. Grinding opponents into dust with a bonecrushing running game is all well and good, but even in 2006 Michigan didn't exactly blow out bulbs on the scoreboard and frequently settled for FGs.

I think UM's PPY stats (points per yard) tell the real story. Michigan football under Debord was not only boring as hell, it was about doing the bare minimum to win and not about winning decisively. This leftUM ill-prepared for facing playing better opponents.

I like the idea of UM turning back the running game to traps, pulls and counter plays as well as option zone. This is still power football, but with some deception and finesse sprinkled in. Maybe we'll see some homerun TDs a la Steve Slaton, Tony Boles and Tyrone Wheatley.

Gravatar LOL at Scalia's number 1 fan.

War strict constructionists!

Gravatar Bob,

12 guys in a pinball machine... just two of them are stationary bumpers.

Gravatar why the hell did i just buy the book if this magnum opus on the zone stretch, etc, would be available for free? i feel cheated. DAMMIT!

Gravatar Because this is from last year's book. It was just get you up to date for when you get this year's book and it compares the Michigan zone run vs. the WV zone read.

Gravatar I agree with what the other guy said about the difference with this offense as compared to DeBord. Come one, guys, RR was winning games with a converted safety at QB. Now he'll have, uh, what the hell is Threet? Apparently he ran the spread in high school, and spent a year at Georgia Tech, which runs spread. I think they'll be fine.
Another thing is this Oline blocking scheme is apparently simpler than DeBord's was.

I DO have a boner! And with the way this summer is going, as in fucking RAIN every other goddamm mopther fucking day, I kind of can't wait for football season to start.

Gravatar Wow. Yvgeni's Evil Masterpiece has surged ahead by 12 votes.
I'm pissed off that this vote is that close. Come on, a friggin' player montage? nevermind.

Vote Yvgeni NOW!

Gravatar ever hear of LaDonyell Jackson, **** OT out of Memphis? I hope not, because an hour ago I was in his living room talking to his mom and I ate him, shoes and all.

Purely accidental. And to hell with Michigan.

Gravatar Brian from MGOBLOG about his new book
- "It puts Rich Rodriguez under the microscope in two different articles, one detailing his rapid ascension from NAIA schools to West Virginia and Michigan, the other explaining just what makes his offense so unstoppable ((((**and what Michigan can expect when he gets his hands on (*four- and *five-star) recruits.)))**"

Brian might need to change that last sentence to "when Rich gets his hands on more of the same at Michigan"

Who needs five star recruits when you can have 18- 5'10 180Lb kids!?!

Gravatar ^^^^Gotta be a troll or regular trying to get a rise out of us because no one this dumb would've survived long enough to learn how to use a computer.

Gravatar I've been to the Big House around 8 times, and loved my experience, but do you think the crowd at Michigan will ever get to the level of a Penn State home game?

http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=Z...feature=related
Were not even close to this type of loud environment.

agree/disagree?

Gravatar try the gorgonzola-stuffed tailback. It's gooooooood.

Then you think about your coworkers, and realize how not true this statement really is.

Gravatar I think about my co-workers. And their boobies.

Gravatar that was "victim rub the lotion" creepy. Damn you bourbon.

Gravatar 3 OT's the WNBA is still breathtakingly unwatchable.

Gravatar It rubs the lotion on its skin.

It does this whenever it is told.

Gravatar Oh yes, there is a right way to play. No doubt about it.

Gravatar Did the Pistons draft the narcoleptic?

Gravatar Fun NBA Draft fact:

The greatest draft bust of all time, Len Bias, is an anagram for "lesbian."

Gravatar Is anyone else pissed that Malik Hairston and Joe Crawford just got drafted? Goddamnit.

Gravatar god those diagrams of mich/osu were depressing
