Gravatar WAR KITTENS!!!!!!

Gravatar 2nd?

Gravatar Wow. Just... wow.

Gravatar Go blue

Gravatar OUTSTANDING! Man, we looked AWESOME.

Gravatar GO BLUE!

Gravatar I've never been so happy to have been wrong . . . this crow tastes delicious!

GREAT WIN!

Congrats to Lloyd and the seniors for going out winners . . . GO BLUE!

Gravatar So this is what it feels like to end the year in a good way...

Thank you Llyod, you will be missed

Gravatar Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gravatar Good moment for lloyd.

Gravatar Unreal. There are no words. They played their hearts out. Unbelievable.

Gravatar Bravo!!!! Thanks guys for sending Lloyd out the right way.

Gravatar It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine.

=-)

Gravatar Apparently any time everyone thinks something is true, it's false.

Gravatar Go Motherf@#*in Blue!

Gravatar I am the biggest Ohio State fan you will ever find, and I feel a little dirty for saying this, but that was an awesome win and I am so happy for Lloyd, Hart and Henne to get a big win and send Carr out the right way.

Congrats Michigan. F-U SEC fans.

Gravatar Congrats and thank you from a Buckeye.

Gravatar YES !!!!!!

I am speechless.

The Heisman curse lives !!!

Gravatar Oh, suck it hard SEC fans. Let it linger for a while.

Gravatar and apparently the axis of the earth has reversed.

my sister's pastor's 12 year old son is going to get a viscious tirade from me the next time i see him. we live in michigan and hates "us" and loves the gators. what a dick.

Gravatar It's GREAT to be a Michigan Wolverine!!!!!

Gravatar So that is what Michigan looks like when they are inspired and have a good gameplan? Thats what we are going to look like while Rodriguez is here? Sign me up.

If only they could have had gameplans like that more often Lloyd would be going down as one of the all time greats.

Gravatar Oh, wait, I'm not an SEC fan. Nevermind about that beratement.

Gravatar I have a child on the way in June. He/She will be born in a year where Michigan is undefeated, hopefully claiming the #1 recruit in the country, and is running one of the most innovative offenses in all of college football. WOW. What a difference a year makes.

It's really great to be a Michigan wolverine!

Gravatar In their chat at midfield after the game, I wonder if Lloyd told Urban that payback was a bitch. Probably not, since Lloyd's too classy, but it's true nonetheless.

Gravatar This game will go down as an instant classic and be shown w/Mich winning on ESPN Classic.

What a great win for the program from so many perspectives.

I am choked up right now, thank you Blue for that gameplan and effort.
Good luck in the future.
BTW, that sure looked like I was watching an NFL game today, gotta love that!!!!!

Gravatar I LOVE MICHIGAN FOOTBALL...GO BLUE!!

Gravatar Part of me now hopes that tOSU stomps all over LSU just so we can shut up the whole SEC is the best conference bullshit.

Thank you very much, happy new year, Go Blue, and Bless you Lloyd.

Gravatar Can we hire today's coaching staff for next season?

Gravatar Wooooooot! Boy, that was unexpected...and SWEET. This is the year is all begins to change!

Gravatar Second wanting to see LSU stomped.

Gravatar To win by 6 at "their" place with 4 turnovers (two on the 1) was a dominant performance. This was the team - healthy - that was preseason #5...but with attitude.

Gravatar Thank you Lloyd. What a game. What a way to go out.

Gravatar Now THAT'S how we roll!

Gravatar Hey for those without the BTN, ESPN News is picking up some of the press conference.

Gravatar HAIL TO LLOYD. and yes, SEC - you suck

Gravatar sec speed!

pfffffffffft

Gravatar My hat is off to Ron English. Fantastic defensive gameplan, and the D-line absolutely played their asses off. We sure we want this guy gone?

Gravatar Great game by Henne also. And can you believe we won it with turnovers at 4-0?

Gravatar Hail, hail!

Great win, guys. You did the conference proud.

Now if Illinois and my Buckeyes can take care of business, it's going to be a really nice offseason for the Big Ten.

Gravatar B11 > sec

Gravatar What the eff was Hart laughing about after the first fumble?

Gravatar It's peanut butter jelly time!

Gravatar As i said on the other board, congrats on a great win!!! Woohooo! Go B10; fuck SEC!!! congrats again!!!

Gravatar Dear Michigan

All of Ohio thanks you.

All of it.

Gravatar I'm in tears.

Gravatar I assume Hart was laughing at the irony, that he would fumble here and then.

Gravatar Amen and hallelujah, Brian. Happiest this Buckeye has ever been about a Michigan victory. I don't have balls (note: that's because I'm a girl, not because I'm a Buckeye), but if I did, the SEC could suck them too. Just for today: GO BLUE.

Gravatar I'm overwhelmed by this outpouring of Buckeye love. I certainly plan to return the favor against Lesticles' boys.

Gravatar It's hard not to relish Meyer's obvious press conference pain. I hope they have enough questions to keep him up there on the podium a long time.

Gravatar OK, so what was the "play of the game"? Arrington's behind-the-back, round-the-side catch?

Gravatar That was a hella awesome game. I agree with Brian fully...SEC can suck my balls too!!!

::Gator Chomp:: at the state of Flordia!!! LOL

Gravatar I'll admit to crying after the final incompletion.

Thanks, Lloyd.

Gravatar Arrington's been pimped

Gravatar awesome. fing awesome.

way to go lloyd, hart, long, and the rest of the team! best of luck to illinois and o state (screw miles)

Go Blue!

Gravatar so glad i Tivo'ed this game! so many awesome catches....especially MM's behind the back catch

Gravatar Taste the happy, Michael. I can't remember the last time I was this happy about a football game. Good heavens.

Gravatar SEC speed, eh? Morgan Trent, for one, is unimpressed.

Gravatar Hello friends,

Nice to see my halftime analysis play out with a gutless and (omg. tired?) Florida team basically pantsed in the 4th quarter. The block M could move on that team any time they wanted and friends, let's face it here, without 2 fumbles on the 1/2 yard line we win this by 20 and run 50 on St. Urban and his son Timmy...so fcuk the SEC and fcuk the haters. (you know who you are...as in the coaching search, I must admit that it is a joy to be right...indeed, the sky has not fallen.

The facts in watching this game were evident and in 4 quarters Michigan didn't beat that Florida team, they beat up that Florida team.

Moving on, how about that Tim Tebow, Heisman Trophy winner...nice stats...I am sure that he will enjoy his time with the Hamilton Tiger Cats after his NFL tenure invariably flames out (did anyone else see how pathetic he looked at the end in the "pocket passer" role having to actually move a team downfield? damn, that was ugly...)

Some nice momentum out of this game and interestingly, this is the team that without Les' call on 4th (either genius or crack fuelled depending on your perspective) perceived itself as a national title contender (much as we did pre Horror). Any team that this UM team can hang over 40 on with *ease* and with DeBord calling plays is hardly worthy of top 20 status. I for one, will be interested to see if we finish ahead of St. Urban and his son Timmy in the final polls.

Congratulations Lloyd Carr, a good man, nice to see him go out with a win.

"The team, the team, the team" - Bo Schembechler

"Those who stay will be Champions" - Bo Schembechler

Gravatar That was a great game to watch. Wish we could have seen that healthy team with that kind of free-thinking coordinating a little more regularly this season but at least Lloyd gets to go out a winner.

Go Blue! Great times.

Gravatar The best part's in the rump!

Gravatar MDan: "This was the team - healthy - that was preseason #5...but with attitude."

That was my exact point to a fellow alum at halftime. Everybody -- fans, media, all of us -- seemed to forget about that. Of course, with no concrete injury info, there wasn't much else we could think, but still...

Basking in the elation here...

Gravatar I can't remember Michigan being a bigger underdog in recent history. I can't remember being more happy to be a Michigan fan, period. Wow, that was incredible.

Gravatar Yeah congrats from a Buckeye fan. I hate Florida much much more than I hate Blue right now. I have the most respect for you guys compared to those SEC bitches. Lets keep this B10 momentum on through the new year! Go Illini! Screw USC, LSU and the rest of the SEC!!

Gravatar ChgoGoBlue's comments prompts this thought: Brian should find a South Park clip (or something) apropo of "drinking the tears of unbelievable happiness..." so tasty! woohoo!

Gravatar I can't believe this Buckeye love...
I'm now rooting for tOSU in the mnc...
I can't believe I'm saying this... ah, go bucks...

Gravatar Crable is still mad and dissing Herbie on BTN ...

Gravatar I love the image on the front of www.SI.com . I hate Tim Shebow.

Gravatar Crable is calling out Herbstreit on BTN. Outstanding.

Gravatar Finally, in my senior year here, we get a bowl win! What a game!

Gravatar anyone know the link to the Michigan bittorrent site?

Gravatar IT'S GREAT TO BE A MICHIGAN WOLVERINE

Gravatar Just re-watched the last minute of the game on DVR, and Lloyd's post-game comments when he got choked up...okay, now I'm crying.

Just a great win.

Gravatar Shawn Crable in a post-game on-field interview on BTN: "First off, I wanna say to Kirk Herbstreit, who said we ain't got no defense, that he FULL of it"

Gravatar a lot of us buckeye fans have always respected michigan, fwiw. just don't get the attention that our ugly townie cousins get.

it's ok to respect your fiercest rivals.

Gravatar Any idea where I can find the post game presser online?

Gravatar Lloyd is taking his sweet time in the locker room .. I'm sure it's amazing in there.

Gravatar "Mercury Haze"

That the stuff that Arrington got caught with?

Gravatar God bless their cotton-pickin' maize and blue hearts!

Gravatar Arrington and Henne are at the presser ... no Lloyd yet.

Gravatar Wow. Just wow. I don't think any of us need to say more. Just perfect.

Gravatar Great to see emotion from Lloyd Carr at the end. I'm so fucking happy right now. This was amazing.

As for Henne, he took a cortisone shot on his nerve before the Wisconsin game. His arm was numb, he threw that pick b/c he was throwing with a noodle. He also couldn't rehab properly b/c of it, so OSU was a tough game for him as well. What a warrior, I'm really really really happy for him.

Gravatar Those are some ugly ass t-shirts. But where can I get one?

Gravatar Hart on BTN.

Happy as can be.

Gravatar I can't get over what a bad game Tebow had. Barely 50%, terrible yards per throw...

We have a really good pass defense! So weird!

Gravatar ...i really need to check the name first

Gravatar henne presser on espnnews

Gravatar Audio link for presser? Anyone? I'm at work!

Gravatar Freep reporting English officially accepted 2 year deal with Louisville

Gravatar Adrian's not talking! What's up with that? Is he shy or nervous or something?

Gravatar USC is kicking Illinois' ass. Boy, am I glad we're not playing those guys this year.

Gravatar carr now

Gravatar Lloyd on espnews

Gravatar LLOYDS ON ESPN NEWS

Gravatar Man, that first TD to Arrington was an incredible throw-and-catch! Can't wait to DVR this game on ESPN Classic, sure I missed a lot in the process.

Gravatar Carr at the presser on BTN

Gravatar Total class.

Gravatar @ floridaGoBlue... yeah (and I assume you mean not playing USC), but we (tOSU, that is) do ... and in Los Angeles... bit worried... but will be there!!!

Gravatar Morgan Trent Man of the Match, period, I know Robo Henne was straight ballin and AA & MM were just being ridiculous, Trent stood out as makin the most important plays in the game FUCK the SEC just slipped out
I lloved Lloyd looking at debord after the 3rd 10 run @ 2minutes and chirping him for not passing. Clearly still pissed about last year
Seeing the smile on Carrs face as the clock ran down was possibly my favorite shot all year, rigght up there with tebow trying to pry the grass out of his face mask. The winters gonna be a bit warmer up here now.

Gravatar i want those ugly ass t-shirts. my '97 shirt is getting pretty torn up.

Gravatar Assuming I can do the math, that win kept Lloyd's all time win percentage above 75%.

Gravatar Another Buckeye Fan here saying GREAT WIN!!!

I was pretty much assuming I wouldn't care either way about this game, for various reason. I didn't want to root for either school (for obvious reasons), I missed most of the first half at work, and I assumed UF would roll.

I had UF for about 30 in my confidence pool. But by the fourth quarter I was openly rooting for UM. The catch by Arrington is one of the best I ever saw. Great win and great way to send off your coach!!!

Gravatar Lloyd can't stop smiling at the presser. Wow!

Gravatar @BuckeyeBeau

That will be a very good game. USC is tough to beat at the Coliseum, unless it's against a 41-point underdog.

Gravatar Lloyd's in behind the defense! Oh and a cheeky move to beat the keeper! Pure class and one of the world's best!

Gravatar This game will go into Wolverine lore bigtime, right up there with Bo beating Woody his first season. We all saw history made today. . . . .

Gravatar As a Buckeye fan, it's rare that I can take pleasure in a Michigan win, but that was thoroughly enjoyable and I was happy to see Lloyd go out with a win.

I'm going to get a jump on next season and go back to hating you guys now.

Go Bucks!

Gravatar It will be interesting to see how sharp can spin the negative story out this. I'm sure he can.

Great to see the seniors go out in this fashion. They put in huge amounts of time and most will never get an NFL paycheck.

Gravatar I am a Buckeye fan, but I come in peace. Congratulations on an outstanding victory. If only the team I root for had played a year ago with the heart and intensity shown by Michigan today.

Gravatar Lloyd: "Only we could stop ourselves".

Gravatar I left the TV after the game and it has been claimed. I would love whoever put the Lloyd presser on youtube.

Gravatar Anonymous Buckeye Fan: I had Michigan for 1 in my confidence pool. :)

Gravatar Max Hubris

Never underestimate the ability of Drew Sharp to be an ass clown

Gravatar "After the game, all these players will be my friends. And that's the most important thing."

Gravatar Max,

It's easy to see how Sharp will negatively spin the story.

"The season that coul have been"

Gravatar Sharp: "Four turnovers = signs of bad coaching"

Gravatar Man... Carr finally hit the "Unleash Hell" button... and it was fabulous.

Glad they could send you out as a winner Carr. You deserved it.

Gravatar I wish I could see the presser! Please update here those who can get it! (Crappy Comcast!!!)

It IS great to be a Michigan Wolverine!

Gravatar Lloyd! Lloyd Lloyd Lloyd!

Gravatar Carr talking about Adrian: "I was frustrated with him"

Carr is reminiscing about his morning walks with Adrian.

Gravatar ESPN NEWS Katie

Gravatar Great story by Lloyd about AA. Just great stuff.

Gravatar I tip my hat to you,I think Michigan was probly the best team we played all year.

Gravatar Strange season.

We lose a game to start the season that was impossible to lose
And win a game at the end that was impossible to win.

The shembelcher era ends with Carr going empty backfield, going 5 wide, and beats one of the achitects of the spread at his own game.
With his first attempt. Against a Hiesman QB running it. On the road.

Unbelieveable.

Gravatar I cannot wait to go to work tomorrow. The guy in the office next door is a Florida Gator. He played (well, warmed the bench) under Spurrier. I have had to take his shit all year, starting with the Appy State loss. You'd bet I am getting up at the butt crack of dawn to plaster his office door with Maize and Blue. Damn, it has been a good day.

Gravatar Lloyd: I will never be able to replace coaching in my life. It's the best job in the world.

Gravatar Strange season.

We lose a game to start the season that was impossible to lose
And win a game at the end that was impossible to win.

Second this sentiment and all associated comments 200%.

Gravatar ARRGGHH I don't get that! I just have ESPN and ESPN2. Crap!

Gravatar I hope Brian posts pressers. I can't see or hear them :(

Gravatar Can't match up against Florida's speed?PLEASE.

Gravatar samsoccer7:

Second this as well.

Should we start emailing Brian to collect the pressers now?

Gravatar BEST FOOTBALL GAME EVER

Gravatar i think big ten network online will post them later

Gravatar Play of the game was Jake Long physically dominating the Florida linebacker, manhandling him to the sideline and then pretty much bodyslamming him to the ground. Then he crushed himself onto the gayter. The game in a play.

Arrington's catch down the sideline was unbelievable. I can't think of a way for his draft stock to rise, especially with the possibility of a run-centered short passing offense next year. I think NFL scouts can spot talent, but it doesnt hurt to have it showcased in a pro-style offense geared toward throwing the ball down the field.

Gravatar I hate Comcast! My boys have the football package on their dish, I so wish I was there right now!

Gravatar Wow. Not a huge Lloyd fan in recent years, but that press conference was the essense of class.

Gravatar Holy shit! How did Arrington make that catch?

Gravatar Dan, absolutely agree. All class. Always has been

Gravatar Lloyd talking about M football going forward: "I hope they win every game. That's what we always tried to do: win every game."

Gravatar dffg

Gravatar BTN has Carr's final speech .. go now

Gravatar btn showing post game speech

Gravatar So glad Lloyd is going. But a few weeks ago Herbie was saying he was blown away by how much the players loved Lloyd, said it was the kind of respect and reverence for a coach that he didn't see in college FB anymore.

At least Herbie was right on that one thing. Those guys played their hearts out for him today. What a way to stay focused after wacko coaching search and so many losses in big games.

Give it up to these guys because this game will go down in Michigan history.

Gravatar Locker video on btn right now

Gravatar I WOULD IF I COULD! DAMN IT!

Gravatar Just one more thing, you had to beat Florida at what amounts to a home game for them. Great effort!

Gravatar I think Sharps job is to be an ass clown, he generates interest by creating controversy. I don't think it's a difficult job. Take the party line, find a new, crazy-ass stupid angle, and publish it as your God-given own opinion.

Gravatar Snippets of Carr's speech:

"Vow right now that you will finish your degree.

Seniors, I love you. I love all of you in this room."

Amazing speech!

Gravatar Liked the comment at half that RR should jumping up and down on the sidelines thinking,I'm getting all that size, speed, and talent.

Gravatar Most satisfying comment of the year from Orson at EDSBS: Michigan looked fast. Like Big Ten fast.

Gravatar Wow, I sure hope it gets posted on YouTube :o(

Gravatar Seconding comment of friar buck--G'ville is 2 hours from Orlando. It was a freakin' home game for the gators.

Can't wait to hear SEC fans spin this: "Tebow had a hangnail, it was because the players wanted to win one for their coach therefore it didn't count."

Gravatar How many tears has Mark May shed over this one? How many tears has Gary Danielson shed over this one?

Happy, warm happy feeling.

Gravatar We dominated them the entire game....NOTHING can be said except that. Period. And I will have a few choice words for Mr. Sharp if he chooses to take a negative spin on this win.

Gravatar Random thoughts:

Best win for the program since OSU in '69 ("no chance" to win, national stage, restored glory and future of program in one game).

We should thank Urban for advising Coach Rod to take the UM job (I think he knew what the combo of modern scheme/prep & great talent/tradition can do; we just got a preview).

Henne's NFL draft stock just zoomed (showed what he could do with pro-caliber receivers and schemes). Hope the Bears draft him.

Henne to Mallett at the post-game celebration late tonight: "THIS can be yours. THIS is why you stay."

If Coach Rod hasn't picked a DC yet and English hasn't committed to L'ville yet, this game was the best job interview possible.

Gravatar HOIST THE COLORS MICHIGAN NATION,FOR TONIGHT WE DINE IN HELL!!!

Gravatar PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE somebody post the pressers on youtube (or here).

Gravatar Great win Blue from your friends at ND.

Mark May can suck our collective balls. We hate his guts.

Gravatar This is easily one of my favorite moments ever as a fan of any team.

This is sweet, sweet vindication after all that's happened this season. If you didn't get choked up at the end of that game, then I can't help you. Thank you Lloyd, thank you Mike, Chad, Jake, Adrian, Mario, Shawn, Jamar, Brandent.

Those who stayed were champions!

Gravatar Henne loves to say "definitely"

Gravatar Cap 1 bowl merchandise...
No UM champs mechandise up as of yet tho...
http://www.fcsmerchandise.com/ca...cap1- merch.html

Gravatar Katie,

keep checking BTN's website and mlive.com

Gravatar Terrelle just called, left the message,"where do I sign".

Gravatar Hey, App State now has an indirect win over Florida. Suck on that Urban Meyer.

Gravatar Undoubtedly the most satisfying and unexpected win in several years. What a gameplan - it's amazing what this team can do when everyone is healthy and the coaches take the training wheels off...

Gravatar Isn't this GREAT!!! If ONLY M had opened the playbook like that against OSU.

And to the 90% of America who voted on ESPN that Fla would wipe the Wolverines: HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!

HAIL to the VICTORS VALIANT!!!!

Godspeed Lloyd. U Da Man!

Gravatar Anyone catch Urban whining and making excuses and throwing his Heisman QB under the bus?

Showing his true colors.

Thanks for showing a lot of class Lloyd. It's a shame that class and graduation rates aren't the in thing in CFB anymore

Gravatar Bad thing about this game: NFL scouts are going to be salivating over Arrington. God, I hope he comes back.

Gravatar weather conditions and injuries would have probably prevented opening the playbook against OSU from being very effective.

Gravatar Don't think this has been posted yet...

http://footballrecruiting.rivals....asp? CID=756593

Pryor's decision not based on potential Mallett transfer

Gravatar Yes I did gb22. It was ridiculous. He's sitting right next to him talking about how they passed like ass and were immature.

Lloyd, on the other hand, was as classy as it gets.

Gravatar We're going to get killed, but I'll root for us anyways. Happy new year and GO BLUE!
MusketRebellion | 01.01.08 - 3:02 am | #

Sound Familar?

Gravatar Hopefully Rich realizes what a great coach Campbell is. Our WRs run immaculate routes.

Gravatar What a incredible way to send Coach Carr off. Indeed, it's great to be a Michigan Wolverine.

It's also heartwarming to see Michigan fans and Ohio State fans coming together to tell off all the annoying SEC trolls.

Gravatar MM's gone and I fear today was AA's coming out party. I don't begrudge either of them the opportunity to get their payday in the NFL, but imagining them next year with Mallett, Mathews, Hemingway, and a potentially healthy Bass makes my mouth water.

Gravatar Btw, Lloyd's smile at the end of the game completely offset 13 years of scowls by a large margin...

Gravatar Suck on that, will ya? Wolverines RULE!!!

Gravatar What a job by English and the D today. They gave Tebow a beatdown. It would be nice to have RE back next year. Note to RR...ditch the 3-3-5.

Damn, it feels great to be a Wolverine.

This win could give us a nice nudge as we enter the home stretch on recruiting.

Gravatar who caught gameday this AM? herbie: 'w/o pryor, Michigan wins 6-7 games next year. mallett cannot run RRs offense.'

always respected KH, untill these last 8 weeks.

Great game. can't wait for the spring game.

Gravatar Lloyd would never do that to a player.

Can't help but think about the mnc. LSU and Les were already under a lot of stress, needing to prove that LSU is really as good as everyone has been saying for the last 4 years.

Now there's lots of pressure on Les to validate the fantasies of SEC fans who think B10 schools should be banned from BCS games.

Gravatar There is a nice piece on ESPN, Lloyd giving a private interview about his resignation.

Gravatar who thought the 3 run plays up 3 at the end was a bad idea?

Gravatar I am sorry Dan but if all three Michigan receivers come back then there is now way they win less than 8.

Gravatar ESPN Website that is. Interestingly enough, the piece on us winning, most of the plays they show are our turnovers. EVEN when we win, ESPN taints it.

Gravatar Katie - link?

Gravatar Dan,

Me!

Gravatar I didn't Dan, though I can see where most might. I think it was important there to get a score on the board and make it a two-score game. We didn't burn off a lot of clock (10 seconds? maybe?), but we got the points and made certain that Tebow would have to drive 80 yards to beat us.

Gravatar I didn't realize the degree to which we had them on the ropes. I thought the D was tired.

Gravatar http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/ne...tory? id=3176462

English gone. . .

Gravatar CGB,

It's still a 1 score game up 6.

Gravatar Link to ESPN

Videos to the right

Gravatar I think KC deserves major props. Good drives that end in missed field goals are so demoralizing. The six points he put on the board today may not have been absolutely crucial, but making the field goals kept the momentum going. FG team ended up being a surprising strength this year.

Gravatar Duh. Sorry, I meant Florida would have to score a TD. That changes their gameplan and makes them take chances they might not have taken if they were only down 3.

Gravatar Colin when Harvin failed to convert that huge play into a TD, you knew they had to be tired.

Gravatar Still nothing on the pressers. Hopefully Brian can get them!

Gravatar that drive killed all 3 TO and forced UF to go for 7. the bigest thing, imo, was that i don't think Tebow is too dangerous as a 1-D QB. in that situation (down 6, 80 yards to go, no TOs, 2.10 on the clock) the QB has to pass. w/o the threat of the run, Teblow is not a great QB.

not sure how to expand on the following, but i think people will get what i mean: Henne is a better QB than Tebow, but Tebow is the better football player.

Gravatar From that English article:

"'I'm excited about the opportunity at Louisville, where I'm going to get another chance to prove that I can affect change,' English said. 'We need to change the personality of the defense and I can't wait to get started.'"

I love that attitude and it's what keeps me optimistic about his chances. And maybe DeBord isn't a total maroon? That was a brilliantly called game from my perspective. I wonder if he'd reply, "Because we set it up all year." I don't think it's true.

Oh, English also called Lloyd a man he loved.

Gravatar ESPN has been unfair to the conference all year.

Herbie the Hated defended tOSU once by saying they can't lack team speed if so many players go to the NFL. That sure as hell applies to us. I'm also a Browns fan and Braylon Edwards doesn't lack for speed, size, skill or anything else.

Arrington's draft stock is soaring so high his ears are popping.

And Tebow, i get that he's good but never believed he was above-average in the pocket. He'll never make the NFL.

Gravatar Steven,

I saw that Harvin was tired. He kept leaving his mouth guard out of his mouth, which (at least as I remember it) means you're trying to get more air.

And then whatsherface came on and confirmed it.

Oh, is it possible that the sideline reporter actually came away with some decently useful information? I enjoyed that quote she gave from the Florida sideline.

Gravatar we fucking rule.

Gravatar @ Katie:

Lloyd pressers usually posted at MGoBlue.com within about 3 or 4 hours after the game.

Gravatar SEC Speed!!!!!

Gravatar here's the direct link to that interview, katie

http://sports.espn.go.com/ broadb...egoryId=2564308

Gravatar i didn't catch much of that Blo-Pitt hockey game, but what i did see was awesome. snow, cold, crazy mid period pauses to switch ends and zamboni the ice. shootout at the end. i wish M could get another outdoor game...this time at the stadium.

Gravatar Interesting thought: Juice was a far worse passer, but Tebow looked like he was working with a limited offense that ran relatively few routes and was super reliant on Harvin.

Gravatar Was anyone else dreading the possibility (if we'd lost) of an edited MGoBlog banner with the ball squirting out of Hart's hands?

Gravatar Just before the sideline reporter said it, I turned to my girlfriend and said, "Harvin looks tired."

And when he wasn't tired, Morgan Trent chased him down from behind. There aren't many players in the country who could track down Harvin.

Gravatar OMG TEBOW SHIRTLESS:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/cee...ious/488154488/

Gravatar Did anyone see this comming?

Gravatar HE HAS NO SHIRT

REPEAT: NO SHIT

Gravatar There's a RichRod interview up on ESPN now....

Gravatar Hey Tebow: don't you hate pants?

Gravatar harvin did have ~240 yards of total offense. he had a breaston 05 RB type game.

Gravatar Just got home from the game.

Wow

Wow

Gravatar Before the game, I was sick of people talking about Juice Williams. I think they just like to say Juice. Yeah, he beat Ohio State, but he spent a fair amount of time on the bench this year behind Eddie McGee.

You're not any kind of stud if you lose time to your mediocre redshirt freshman backup.

Gravatar I guess all the naysayers will go play with themselves now.......

Gravatar Illinois just discovered the forward pass.

Gravatar @ Katie:

Lloyd pressers usually posted at MGoBlue.com within about 3 or 4 hours after the game.
TorontoBlue | 01.01.08 - 6:34 pm | #

Thanks, I will keep checking!

Gravatar I like how the front page of ESPN.com has virtually no mention of the game even though it was easily the best and biggest upset of the bowl series. They wouldn't want to embarass their golden boy I guess.

Gravatar You went to the game scalz? You bastard.

Gravatar Screw ESPN and Herbie

Gravatar Juice looks terrible. I said when we played him that he went down pretty easily and isn't an amazing runner...but he doesn't even have that right now. That sack was miserable.

Gravatar Kiss My Ass SEC...............

Gravatar ESPN has been pimping the Rose Bowl non-stop, so I'm not surprised that they aren't highlighting our win.

Gravatar Tebow? Whatever......

Gravatar from the bottom of my buckeye heart, thank you. i haven't cheered like that in god knows how long. you guys pulled your weight in an honorable way, our turn now. and by the way, suck my nut, sec / gators. goodnight nurse

Gravatar I can't wait for the Georgia vs Hawaii game now. That should be a good one, although nothing can compare to the Michigan vs Florida game!!

Gravatar Yes, I went, and paqid 120 for a seat, and it was amazing. I have never seen so many pissed off rednecks

Gravatar http://s4.photobucket.com/ albums...=Picture088.jpg

Gravatar scalz,

i would like to hear anything at all that qualifies as enjoyably schadenfreudic.

Gravatar ITS GREAT....TO BE... A MICHIGAN WOLVERINE!!!!!!!!!

Gravatar No offense, Buckeyes, but you can't really talk shit about another team beating your "rival" (the term is used loosely here, obviously).

It doesn't erase your drubbing at the hands of the Gators last January.

Gravatar The Gators head coach should be called "Sub-Urban" Meyer. And Timmay looks like he's auditioning for Beverly Hillbillies--The Movie.

Go Blue, Go Lloyd, Go Rich.

What a way to start the new year!

Gravatar Really too much to put in a post after the beers I"ve drank today. Full report tomorrow.
Saw a few App State shirts there.

How's that feel ?

Gravatar Georgia v Hawaii is on the Faux Network?

Just shoot me now.

Whoever said CFB should get a restraining order against Faux was 110% correct.

Gravatar I still think Tebow is a very good player. He's like any quarterback, even Tom Brady - if you hit them and/or get in their face, it disrupts their timing.

Our pressure was Tebow's undoing, not a lack of talent on his part. As long as he stays healthy, he's going to be a stud for the rest of his college career, and I think he'll do well in the NFL, too.

Gravatar Happy New Year Everyone,
My, my, my. I love to hate to say I told ya' so. I would bet more than even money that I was the first to predict this win here on Brian's genius site, just after the OSU debacle, and seem to recall receiving a few tepid responses pointing out Mr. Tebow's ability to benchpress 450. Well, well, well. My love to all in the afterglow of this great win. Remember that Diogenes was rumored to have lived in a bathtub and to have respectfully dissed Alexander the Great. Respect thy elders, youngsters, and pay scanter attention to the mud flung about on the waves.
Go Blue. And Welcome RRod. As for that gentleman, Mr. Lloyd: Thanks for the memories.

Gravatar Awww... Magnus. Don't pout. I still think you might be The. Best. Four-loss team. Ever.

Cross your fingers. Maybe we'll take care of beating LSU for you.

Gravatar check cnnsi.com, front page

Gravatar Who's pouting? I'm happy.

And I don't want LSU beaten. I want OSU to lose.

Unless someone on their opponents' team has killed my grandpa or something, I'll never root for OSU.

Gravatar You still blow.

Gravatar You guys had a house full of Buckeye fans cheering for you today in Columbus. As we like to say to opposing fans on road trips, "We're all Big 1(1)0 here."

That was one hell of a game.

Hope the new guy can keep the Russell Crowe love around the program.

Gravatar Oh I'm not saying Tebow isn't talented, but I think we forgot that being a sophomore means that you won't get full command of the offense unless you're a savant. I think physically Tebow is an impressive talent. Unless Urban was calling those plays on purpose, their second to last drive featured two straight screen passes. That suggests limitations being imposed to me.

Gravatar Stay classy, Armanti.

Armanti obviously > Tebow

Gravatar Tebow won't be able to run like that in the pros. Question is, will he do enough other things that make him attractive to the NFL? He has a lot to prove.

Chad looked super today. Makes you wonder how he'd fare in the NFL if he could put it all together.

Predicting NFL QB success is nearly impossible.

Gravatar Love reading this from Dan Shanoff

http://www.danshanoff.com/2008/0...lloyd- carr.html

Gravatar Chocolate Salty Balls

4 turnovers and we still smacked the Gators in the earhole, I love it!!!

Gravatar Oh and scalz: I'll be glad to hear it.

Gravatar Scalz, Awesome pic of the scoreboard! Thanks!

Gravatar i agree w/ colin...that UF offense is not that dynamic/complex. it depends HEAVILY on 2 things: the threat of tebow to run and the threat of harvin's speed. take those 2 elements out of the plan (like on the last drive) and that offense is very vanilla.

Gravatar Was Mike Patrick trying to set up a date later with Tebow? To much Heis-Man love for me.

I finally saw a team play both sides of the ball with passion. Also the injuries did us in but you can't change that. What a way to send Lloyd off!!!!!!
Go Blue!!!!!

Gravatar I really have no idea how that game was won. Hart fumbled. Twice. .... 2 picks. And still, UM won. Wow.

AA is a certified stud.

Gravatar Too bad UM waited till after the regular season to play worth a damn!

Gravatar Dissing the Illini is classless but to be expected from Michigan fans. It's hilarious to see this manifestation of impotent fury that Illinois humiliated tOSU in Columbus while UM completely choked the following week at home.

You Michigan fans wallow in self-pity the entire season whilst your boys, possessing talent that should easily have taken them to the top five, suck left nuts serially in a mediocre-to-poor conference.

Then, finally, in a bowl you beat a team that has no defense to speak of and depends on two players for 95% of its offense. Suddenly you think you're the shit.

Manic-depressives / neurotics the lot of you. Can't wait to see what happens when you find yourselves with recruiting holes, no QB and a losing season.

We'll be LOFAO at you even more than we are now.

Gravatar Scalz, how was the feel at the Stadium? It did not appear that there were large sections of Michigan fans, it looked like they were flys on rice, mixed in with gator fans.

Gravatar And how f-ing glad must RichRod be to get out of Mayberry? Death threats from guys named Cletus!

And the fact that WVa is suing him (before his resignation even takes effect) shows that the place is Third World U.

Gravatar Must watch for everybody:

Carr's PostGame speech to the team:

http://bigtennetwork.com/videos/...58494& list_id=5

Absolutely priceless.

Gravatar @ Mike Lantry Was Pretty Clutch:

Michigan haters got PWNED today. Good to see your inferiority complexes are alive and well though.

Gravatar ESPN just showed the Capital One Bowl "highlights." Two SEC-speed showcasing Harvin runs, and one quick clip of Arrington's standup catch in the endzone. What a bullshit collection of highlight clips. Goddam the bias!! Victory will not even clear it!

Gravatar Some of You Folks Make Me Laugh,
A month and and a half ago I told you we were going to whip Florida and you told me they were going to whip us, because, because, because ... Now I remind you of this and you go on about how U of F isn't really that good, Tebow is ... etc... Let's take a show of hands, guys and guyesses: Who thought this was going to happen? Huh? Can Tebow still benchpress 450?
Happy New Year.

Gravatar This is the happiest I've been in a long time.

Gravatar Here's the correct link to the postgame speech

http://link.brightcove.com/ servi...bctid1363158601

Gravatar Crable calling out Herbstreit is hilarious

http://link.brightcove.com/ servi...bctid1363192059

Gravatar I don't think Tebow will run extremely well in the pros. But I do think he can be a Steve Young-like QB. Not only because he's left-handed, either. He's got a big arm and he'll be able to run the ball when necessary, but he won't be a wow-inducing runner like Vick or Vince Young.

Gravatar There was a very, very small inkling of UM fans. The feel there pregame was pretty much lambs to the slaughter, and after UM went up 14, it started to get kinda dicey. Then UF pulled ahead, and the UM fan in me feared the worst. When AA caught the final TD, I actualloy was scared from UF fans around me(and I'm from FL). It was a great game, and I'm very, very glad I went

Gravatar You're right about the tainting of the highlights, Katie. And goddammit, we get the Pontiac Gamechanging Performance: yep, that one. Stop showing it already!!!!!!!!!!

It's like the MSM is on a mission to beatdown M nation's excitement.

Gravatar Karen, you sound reallly bitter. 41-35 go blue. gators suck.

Gravatar Hou Blue! Thanks!

Gravatar Boris? real creative....must i punch you in the face?

Gravatar anyone hear Musburger call out Herbie during the Rose Bowl? "You're pretty into these coaching hunts?" classic

Gravatar Thanks Scalz, that was the feeling I was getting, just from what I could see on TV. Makes the win even sweeter! Congrats for having enough courage to attend!!

Gravatar @ hou blue

thanks for the link. wow, what a classy speech. sometimes we forget that this is still after all, a game. and those who had the opportunity to play for Lloyd Carr were truly fortunate.

Gravatar lol ..
like I said
fuull report tomorrow after the beers have worn off.

Gravatar I will look forward to it!

Gravatar @ Magnus

Re: thee OSU

Amen, brother, amen.

Gravatar bobmurph:

yeah i lol'd. i hate musberger, but that was a decent zinger. herbie took it in stride. i still like herbstreit whatever he says, because he seems genuine and smart...if a little too off-the-cuff sometimes. whatevs. i'm glad they've got someone worthwhile in the booth with musberger.

Gravatar Am I the only one who can't seem to work the audio on Mlive?

Gravatar "They aren't who we thought they were..."

Gravatar All this Buckeye love is a little much for me. If they had beaten Illinois and then lost to us and we had spoiled their perfect season, there would be none of this love I don't think. Oh, well. Too elated to care, right?

Brian, I'm sure you will, but please post as many press conference and postgame interviews as possible. I didn't get to see any of them. Especially looking forward to Lloyd's last hurrah.

Gravatar @ colin

I also like Herbstreit. I think he's a good analyst. Some people question the motive of him reporting the Les-Miles-to-Michigan thing, but I have no clue whether he did that on purpose or not.

He seems pretty intelligent and I think his reporting is pretty fair. He doesn't seem to be a homer, and he's picked Michigan at least a couple times in the UM-OSU series.

Yeah, he says some stupid things once in awhile, but show me a broadcaster/analyst who doesn't (except Erin Andrews...she's perfect).

Gravatar Hmm... @ ratherbeinAA... that's a tough hypothetical... Mich DID just wup the Gators... so, suspect there'd be love for M&Blue even if our one L was to M... and woohoo!... go ILLINI

Gravatar since we're speaking of announcers at the moment, i've come to really like blackledge this year. he knows his stuff and doesn't try to be too much of a personality. he calls the game, provides knowledgeable insight, and leaves it at that.

Gravatar FWIW, after the reg season, I'm a B10 Homer; you're only as good as who you beat! (and that's not being a tOSU Homer or anything; that applies to all the B10; the conference's got to stay strong); both tOSH and MI need a strong B10, etc.

Gravatar shirt seen at UM -UF game

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums.../ Picture090.jpg

Varmit was a wolverine(small text on shirt)

Gravatar Crabel's after game interview calling out herbie

http://www.bigtennetwork.com/vid...os/ michigan.asp

Gravatar I don't hate listening to Blackledge, which is about the best compliment I can give to a broadcaster. Most of them annoy the piss out of me.

Literally.

I went to the bathroom, like, 12 times during the game today. And that doesn't even include when I was listening to Pat Summerall broadcast the Cotton Bowl, when I just couldn't stand it for one more second and peed all over my girlfriend's couch.

Gravatar Magnus, you might want to get that prostrate checked out ;o)

Gravatar Yes Magnus, I've seen commercials about that. Might want to consult a physician.

Gravatar and maybe his Girl should get plastic covers for the couch... ILLINI D is looking pretty good.

Gravatar I think I just drank way too much Crystal Light Raspberry Ice...

Gravatar Mendenhall is gone...

to the league. No doubt abooot it.

Gravatar Can't remember which commentor for UM-FLA it was, but one of those douches kept forgetting about forward progress. Drove me nuts.

Gravatar Dude, you're not supposed to SNORT the Flow-Max.

Gravatar It was Nessler. He also said Donovan Warren was the only DB with eligibility remaining.

Gravatar OK, BuckeyeBeau, I suppose you're right. I live in Ohio and there's just a lot more bitterness in years that M wins The Game. Having lost so many in a row, it seems that a lot of Buckfans have lightened up and really play up the whole "I root for you guys against everyone else." And that kinda sucks from our standpoint...I'd rather make them raging mad to the point where they like an SEC team better. Makes me feel better about the rivalry. But we gotta win some to do that!!!

Gravatar Still didn't annoy me like Musberger.

Wow. Mendenhall. Nice.

Gravatar Nice run for Mendenhall!

Gravatar the problems i've had w/ herbie have only come up this year. he makes a very questionable prediction about morelli & psu...and so he constantly pumps up morelli, how he's a stud, etc. don't tell us how great a guy is if he's been piss poor his whole career. tell us about how he'll be different, then i'd respect your opinion about him.

then came the miles thing, which i don't think had any malice intended, but rather he gave into the pressure to break a story. dude, just be who you are and stand by your position. now, it's the 'mallet can't run RRs offense' crap. no, he won't be running the spread option too well, but do you really think RR will run that offense if mallett is the QB? use your head, idiot.

USC though they won the game in the middle of the 2nd Q.

Gravatar Crable calling out Herbie....welcome back to my good side Shawn.

And, talk about some great stuff in the lloyd presser and lockerrom speech to team....said it in the last thread, but repeat it again here: Lloyd, good coach, greater man.....we'll miss you Lloyd, thanks for the memories, even the bad ones as I would not be the same without them.

And, it is pretty clear we can run the spread with the offensive talent we have, n'est pas!?!?!

Next August can not get here fast enough....shit, nor game the Spring Game.

Gravatar Wow. Illinois. Nice.

Gravatar stupid illinois

Gravatar Dang, just get some momentum and fumble!

Gravatar Henne was a f***ing stud today. Seriously, other than that ill-advised throw on the double pass, he was practially flawless.

Gravatar This would be brilliant if it weren't so pathetic. A bunch of naysayers going on about sportscasters, as if it really meant anything at all. A beautiful postmodern narrative. I have the suspicion that many of you would find anything at all to go on about as long as it had nothing whatsoever to do with what went on a minute, much less an hour, ago. A sort of eternal present of discourse. How your kitchen is designed, what your cat looks like, the nature of your morning's discharge. I was excited as hell, and am now bored to death. Good night and good luck to those who possess any sort of memory at all.
Happy New Year.

Gravatar Illinois can't catch a break...

Gravatar "I'll want 'em to win 'em all... every time. Thank you."

No, thank you, Lloyd Carr.

Gravatar Magnus -
AA made Henne look good today. Those 2 catches he had were a sight to see.

Gravatar @Magnus

No doubt. What was Henne? 366 yds or some crap? Makes you wish we had a healthy year, eh?

Gravatar Man Tebow is good, but not as good as I thought. Troy Smith and Vince Young, Armanti Edwards. Dennis Dixon all had better games against us than Tebow.

The way UM tackled this year vs. big running backs like PJ Hill, Caulchrick and Beanie Wells it seemed like Tebow would be a tough power runner to bring down based on all the power runs we've seen him have this year. But I guess those small speedy SEC defensive players just made Tebow look like he is the second coming of Larry Csonka and Christian Okoye.

Gravatar well, let's temper the excitement about the spread we saw today. we lose MM, H & H, Long, Kraus, and most likely AA. and hopefully mitchell. or at least 50 lbs of him.

the good news is that the OL executed well in spite of their struggles most of the year. it implies a simpler blocking scheme, i assume. one that we can execute adequately next year w/ a much greener offense.

Gravatar Yeah, AA made him look good, but he was sooooo fricking accurate when he had to be. Give Henne some credit. I'm gonna miss him.

P.S. Vontae Davis is f'ing quick.

Gravatar No doubt that AA goes into the draft after today

Gravatar When lloyd said he wanted UM to win every game it plays, he choked up a bit....welcome to being a fan Lloyd, drinks are on me!!

Gravatar @ ratherbeinAA... heartily agree; rivalry is good and I must admit to some concern with your new Coach... OSU/MI is one of the country's "best rivalries..." ugh! and I'll admit, normally my B10 Homerism is somewhat tempered vis a vis MI; but given last year's spanking of tOSU by FL, I suspect I'm always gonna want the B10 team to wup FL; don't think I'm EVER gonna root for FL even against you guys.... big grin...

Gravatar @ Diogenes

I understand your words, but I have no idea what you meant by them. It sounds like you might still be hung over.

@ scalz1

The only catch Arrington made that made Henne look good was the one down the sideline that he caught one-handed. The one across the middle in the first quarter would have been a maddening drop; it was right on target, albeit slightly behind the receiver.

Gravatar it was truly an honor to be in attendance for that game..it was INSANE so emotional..great way for lloyd carr to go, and crables comments during the trophy presentation were hilarous

Gravatar I am fairly sure that crable chocked up at the end of his interview, they just stopped it before you could see it fully.

Gravatar anyone found a video of the lloyd press conference?

Gravatar How much did Rodriguez have a hand in the offense? Those plays weren't in the playbook earlier in the year. RichRod must have given the offense a crash course in the spread over the past three weeks.

Gravatar Magnus -
True on the 1st quarter catch, but it was still amazing around the back.

Gravatar Diogenes, fuck off & die. i'll talk about what i want on these threads until Brian pulls the string on my IP. i am as happy about the win as anyone. you don't like the discourse here, i suggest you enjoy the rivals board.

Gravatar Diogenes,

Elitist invective turned inward! Huzzah! At least you were self aware enough to recognize the cliché. Er...

Gravatar DanK,
I am not worried about our WR crew, even if MM and AA leave. But, yeah, the OL will need work. I'm putting a lot of blind faith in new S/C.

Oh, and, best part of that hockey game today was the Sabs coming out in their classic jerseys. Love those!

Gravatar This is the link to his post game speech in the locker room

http://www.bigtennetwork.com/vid...os/ michigan.asp

Gravatar "USC though they won the game in the middle of the 2nd Q.
DanK | 01.01.08 - 7:33 pm"

Now they know they won it 2/3 through the 3rd quarter...

Gravatar Did anyone else see the interview of Crable on the Big Ten Network?
He told KH off that we were weak on D.
That was frickin hilarious.
Oh Yeah Suck my balls SEC/KH

Gravatar I think Mark Ortmann will be a stud next year.

Gravatar i think the WRs did have a great day in terms of not having drops...MM had one bad drop iirc....and every other catch was made. that said, henne was very accurate today...there were a few tough catches, but i'm sure a potential UFR will reveal very few INs.

Gravatar Here is an audio link to the press conference

http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/ ...io_lloyd_c.html

Gravatar redwhite...true. but that was a VERY fortunate bounce to set up the last TD.

Gravatar @DanK
I totally agree.
I hate the P10 Pete "The Cheat" Carroll.
But USC has this locked up...

Gravatar And that int seals it...

Gravatar yep, I agree @ RW&MGoBlue, after this last interception... ugh...

Gravatar Oh, Illinois. What are you doing?

Gravatar Booty and SC are really lucky to get that 14 point turn. That sucks. Bleh.

Gravatar this is what they were talking about on that old fireronzook.com site.

Gravatar This was possibly the most enjoyable Michigan game I've watched in a long, long time. Big credit to the coaching staff for having them ready to play - even (shudder) DeBord, who called an amazing game. Henne was, hands down, the reason for this win. Hart hangs on to some of those fumble, we blow them out - Michigan dominated this game, and kept Florida in it with Hart's slippery hands.

Gravatar Wow, that audio sucks.

This is a long game for Illinois!

Gravatar Illinois is really starting to Zook it up.

Gravatar hmm... unlike UofM (and even Sparty), ILLINI don't seem good enough to overcome lots of turnovers... gonna get really ugly here soon...

Gravatar @chitown

Yeah, shudder to do it, but I will say I LOVED how Debord called this one. Fun fun.

Gravatar I think that the staff pretty much was replaced by BIZARRO OFENSIVE COORDINATORS today.

Gravatar Nice D, Illini.
Too bad Juisch Will can't play ironman football...

Gravatar Okay, I know Rodriguez was on the sideline, not in the booth...

But he HAD to have some input on the offense. You could never convince me that Debord/Carr put in all those plays of their own accord. They must have asked him for some help.

Gravatar the rout is on. USC owns the Big Ten. sigh. we'll see how tOSU does in the coliseum next year.

Gravatar honestly, i like rooting for the B10, but if Ill won the RB in one try in the last 24 years, i'd freaking cry. we went 3/4 years and lost them all. ill falls into the game and wins? i just don't think i'd feel good about that. they are getting what the should receive...a beating by a team far superior.

Gravatar Magnus,

during the game thread somebody asked how much input RR had as a percent and i think most were around 25-35%

Gravatar Katie,

Yeah it was pretty crappy, but all I could find for now.

Gravatar Hou Blue, Thank you for finding it! It is better than nothing!!! (I didn't mean to complain!!)

Gravatar @Magnus
How much did Rodriguez have a hand in the offense? Those plays weren't in the playbook earlier in the year. RichRod must have given the offense a crash course in the spread over the past three weeks.

I had this exact same thought as I was watching the opening drive. I mean, it's theoretically possible that RichRod helped [NAME REDACTED], right? There's just no way [NAME REDACTED] playcalls a game where the offense gets 41 points and would've gotten much more without 4 turnovers unless somebody helped him.

Gravatar I don't want to take anything away from Carr and this win, but I think that he was smart enough to consult with R2 prior to this game. So I do think that R2 had some input.

Gravatar @ colin

Thanks. I would probably place it at a higher percentage than that. Most of the run plays were out of different formations than normal, and Manningham got the ball WAY more than normal.

Gravatar No way they let Juice QB next year. He has about zero accuracy on throws longer than 7 yards.

Gravatar jeez, stop turning the ball over illinois

Gravatar How about a shout out to the d-line, which we just f'ing relentless. And who among us weren't cursing Debord after the three straight running plays. I had visions of a 42-41 crusher but RE's boys just flat got after it just like they had all game. Guess Carty's "fat" observations were just plain wrong. We were clearly the more in-shape team at the end.

Proud day for M fans like me stuck among the Gators. BTW - FU to the MSU band and their Gator chomp at Universal Studios on Sunday. You stay classy, Sparty.

Thanks, Lloyd. Have a great life.

Gravatar cue nuclear explosion montage; "we'll meet again"

Gravatar Ummm .. #20 lined up at WR ???

Wow

Gravatar cfaller96, i have to agree. that 1st drive when we had 4 wide, Hart offset right....and it was a draw leftward for like 15 yards....looked REALY different to me. especially the blocking assignments.

Gravatar "ChgoGoBlue's comments prompts this thought: Brian should find a South Park clip (or something) apropo of "drinking the tears of unbelievable happiness..." so tasty! woohoo!

BuckeyeBeau | 01.01.08 - 5:35 pm |"

this was from the episode Scott tenorman must die, season 5

Gravatar Congrats Coach Carr! I may bleed Scarlet and Grey but I was 100% behind you today and I'm happy you went out with a win.

Gravatar An observation...

Rodriguez and Meyer are good friends and share a lot. That being said, both of their offenseive philosophies seem to stress getting the ball to your playmakers.

Whereas the Patriots' spread involves getting the ball to all kinds of receivers, Meyer puts the ball in Tebow's and Harvin's hands...and Rodriguez put the ball in White, Slaton, and occasionally Reynaud's hands.

I wonder if that's a sign of things to come. For example (if these people come), will we see Pryor and McGuffie handle the ball with only an occasional touch for Hemingway, Stonum, etc.? I'm just thinking aloud...

Gravatar Mag,

They did with Manningham what Florida does with Harvin...only we have more weapons, evidently.

Also: we didn't throw a single bomb down field except to Arrington. Just a diverse and expectation-defying game plan. I don't know if you caught the postgame stuff on ESPN News, but Chad said the first day of Bowl practice they implemented the 4 wide offense. So it's possible we're all wrong.

It's damned hard to get a read on DeBord.

Gravatar why does sparty have to make everything about M? honestly, it's sad.

Gravatar It's "tears of unfathomable sadness".

Gravatar Dude - the more you sit back and think about it - we faced one of the very best offenses in the country ... and stopped them on 8 straight plays! At the end of the game - 8 straight times we kept them from getting a first down.

It's an absolutely phenomenal accomplishment, just in and of itself. The odds of doing that must be astounding...I think we lost the exact magnitude of what happened, just getting wrapped up in rooting for stops and getting a win.

Gravatar I'm about 10 beers deep, but I'd like to thank the UF fans that helped out App State U by buying merchandise and wearing it to the Capital One bowl. Thanks for helping the little guy.

Gravatar this is not my blog, so i'll keep it short here. but i want to see us going to a spread, with a passing game, not a spread option running game.

conventional offenses still work, if you have talent. USC doesn't run the spread, they still use TEs, FBs and still manage to beat the living crap out of most every team.

the conventional system develops true pro-level talent. i'd rather see us spread them out and pass the ball, with a few shotgun handoffs than the stuff that's run at UF and WVU.

Gravatar i think the WV offense went to those 2-3 players most of the time b/c those were the only playmakers. tebow & harvin (and that other guy?) are the only playmakers for UF. or, at least....those guys are much better than anyone else for them. we have lots of playmakers....RB, 2-3 WRs, TE, and a QB who knows where to go w/ the ball.

Gravatar Tomorrow when I go into work..oh will it be sweet f'n peanut butter jelly time when I see those sad Gaytor faces.

Gravatar I just realized what that new Pumpkins song they play on that Focus ad sounds like: "It was there that I saw you" by ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead. Only less good.

Gravatar Actually, my comment was an allusion to Arrested Development, not South Park. But yeah, Tears of Unfathomable Sadness, indeed.

Gravatar How about a shout out to the d-line, which we just f'ing relentless. And who among us weren't cursing Debord after the three straight running plays. I had visions of a 42-41 crusher but RE's boys just flat got after it just like they had all game.

I was about ready to throw something at the TV when 3 run plays managed to burn a whole 20+ seconds off the clock (but we made them burn their timeouts, w00t!). But recall that even before the offense ran one play, Crable was yelling at the defense to "get ready!"...he knew they were going to have to make one more stop, so kudos to Crable for understanding what had to happen.

Speaking of which, did the Michigan coaching staff just show the nation how to stop Tebow? I got the impression that Tebow wasn't making his reads quickly enough to "handle" the blitzes we were throwing at him, thus the incompletions and wounded duck dumpoffs. Overall for the game his completion % was way down, but it got progressively worse as the day went along. I sense a weakness in the original Mr. Shirtless, as it looks like a fast blitz (i.e. using safeties or corners) will get him out of his comfort zone.

Gravatar It will be PB&J time in FLA for sure tomorrow.

Gravatar http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com...h.ap/ index.html

Old news?

Gravatar Chicago,

tast the happy?

I DONT SEE YOU CRYING, ROBOT!

Gravatar gah.

*taste

Gravatar Crap, tomorrow. I have lots to do! Hawaii is on in 30 minutes, better see what I can accomplish before then! Thanks again guys for letting me hang out, my kids are in cozomel, my brothers are all 2 hours away, nice to have some michigan fans to watch the game with and share in the basking! Peace.

Gravatar tebow still had 3TDs and plenty of yards, so i don't think it's fair to say we stopped him. but, the key was that the pressure by the blitz certainly affected him. he's still a true soph and a 1st year starter. the key to stopping a QB- any QB- is getting pressure.

Gravatar I DONT SEE YOU CRYING, ROBOT!
colin | Homepage | 01.01.08 - 8:10 pm | #

It's because I don't have enough RAM.

Congrats, Michigan fans. What a fun, sexy time for you all.

Gravatar old news. in a way, too bad. i think English really showed me something today.

Gravatar @ DanK

I agree that we have more playmakers. But is that just because we REQUIRE more players to make plays? For example, if Meyer were coaching Michigan, would he just get the ball to Manningham 25 times and then give Hart, Arrington, Mathews a few touches each?

WVU is a little different because they don't have a ton of talent to choose from. But Florida SHOULD have a ton of playmakers with the recruiting classes they get and the "SEC speed" they supposedly have...

Gravatar Dan,

We stopped him. Look at his yards per pass on the year versus today. There's no better measure of general efficiency. We had a great pass defense out there today.

Gravatar UF didn't properly develop their talent this year. in fact, most of the SEC thought their offense was predictable, just hard to stop.

the beatdown in Pasadena continues.

Gravatar Magnus,

That's why I have to conclude that either Tebow isn't there yet wrt knowing the offense OR Meyer made a mistake. My guess is the former, but it's potentially the latter.

Gravatar I'd rather have a lot of good playmakers than 2 super ones. You can gameplan for those 2 guys, and when you have to adjust, it's harder b/c you lack experience, depth, confidence, etc. The way we played today, holy crap, you can't stop anything. Florida never stopped us all game. We should've had 2 more TDs, maybe 3. 529 yards!?! I'll take quantity in this case. Rare, I know, but our guys are good.

Gravatar Look also at his yards per rush - under 4 YPC. I agree that we "stopped" him today, but it's a tribute to how great he is, and how great their offense is, that what we did today was "stopping" them.

Gravatar @ cfaller96

I don't think our blitzes were all that intricate. I just think Michigan came out ready to play today. Jamison and Graham were really on their games.

The biggest wrinkle I saw was that English sent Ezeh on a few more blitzes than he would normally call for a MIKE. He moved around some and showed some good athleticism, which is why I thought Ezeh would move to the SAM next year (before it becamse apparent that things might change with the 3-3-5).

Gravatar I would like to add that Hart's two stupid fumbles are overshadowing what was otherwise a great day. 136 yards, 2 TD's and 4 yds per carry. Pretty solid numbers (except for the fumbles...and his mouth)

Gravatar Illinois is making us (Big11) look really really bad.

Gravatar Ezeh is at his most effective rushing the passer. He will be blitzing a ton next year, I'm sure.

Gravatar FUCK YEAH!!! WOOT!!! Urban Crier licks Lloyd's balls. 7-3 all time vs. SEC.

Gravatar I hate to nit-pick here, but was Zoltan the inconceiveable conceivable today ?

Gravatar I thought evidence of Zoltan's mind bullets was all over the field. How else to explain Harvin's conditioning?

Gravatar i'm glad Illinois is taking its lumps. i think Zook is a cheater. and besides, we performed much better against better USC teams in the Rose Bowl. it actually made us look good.

Gravatar Re: 2 "stupid fumbles".
He holds those, UM wins by 17. He was trying to win the game.

Gravatar @ colin

I don't know... I guess I kind of assume Tebow knows the offense pretty damn well by now. He's known for having an excellent work ethic and he's had two full years in this offense by now. Obviously, he'll be more adept at running it in another year or two, but I really think the offense has been designed to get the ball to only a few playmakers.

There's no reason some of those same plays couldn't be called for James or Caldwell, just to add some variety. Even when it was apparent that Harvin was gassed at the end of the third quarter, they were still trying to force the ball to him.

Gravatar @DanK
tebow still had 3TDs and plenty of yards, so i don't think it's fair to say we stopped him. but, the key was that the pressure by the blitz certainly affected him. he's still a true soph and a 1st year starter. the key to stopping a QB- any QB- is getting pressure.

Good point, but didn't you get the sense in the second half that Tebow was struggling, and the Michigan D was getting better as the game wore on? I did, but maybe that's just the post-victory orgasm talking.

I suspect Tebow's second half stats are going to look surprisingly 'meh' upon further review. And while I didn't see many Florida games this year, I doubt many teams tried safety blitzes up the middle on Tebow- that's a particularly risky species of blitz. I think it definitely affected him, and I bet more SEC teams will try it out next year.

Gravatar I call them stupid fumbles because they were uncharacteristic. Not just that he fumbled but that Florida didn't make good plays. Hart was just careless with the ball, which he never is.

Gravatar hou -

I literally said:" we just saw history". When Hart fumbled. Untimely, yes, stupid, no.
I was disappointed in his mouth today, though.

Gravatar How sweet it is. Passing game looked fantastic, D was great. Good job guys.

Gravatar New ESPN article about the win:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/bo...tory? id=3176511

Gravatar i will miss Hart's heart, but definitely not his mouth. he just might be the mouthiest Wolverine ever.

Gravatar Juice is so underwhelming. Do they even have a quarterbacks coach?

Gravatar OK so now that the season is over, who stays and who goes? My guess is that Mario goes because he is in the first round of every mock draft, but AA im interested in. It's obvious he has NFL talent, but I think one more year of exposure would suit him well. He did absolutely take over this football game today and for that probably got a lot of notice from sunday scouts.

Gravatar @ scalz1

It's stupid to stick your arm out like that. He's got away with it a few times (Penn State, Iowa to name a couple), but there's a reason players are coached to carry the ball against their ribs.

You hear this said all the time about quarterbacks: "Live to play another down."

Hart should have cradled the ball and punched it in on the next play.

Gravatar "Michigan could not stop Tim Tebow on Tuesday." - from that ESPN article.

I think it's pretty clear we did. Check the stats. Watch the game. Blah.

Gravatar Illinois' quarterbacks coach is Todd Marinovich.

Gravatar Is it just me or is Colt Brennan seem like he lives in the trailer park?

Gravatar Hope they let RR sing Hail To The Victors after the game in the locker room, so chills could go up his spine.

Gravatar Magnus,

I absolutely agree. The second fumble was on a first down from the 2 yrd line. Line up for second down and jam it down their throats.

But again, my original point was that Hart had a great game except the fumbles and that can't be overlooked.

Gravatar @Magnus -
Not gonna argue with you about ball security. But, damn 1000+ carries without dropping it? He's trying to score.
I was as suprised as anyone to see him fumble.Twice.

Gravatar It's been said many other places, but I have to believe that Rodriguez had some input into the game plan. Whether it was Rodriguez, Carr or [Name Redacted], it was absolutely brilliant. Both sides of the ball. Fantastic effort.

Anybody else think that Rodriguez's input into the game plan might have been a subtle hint to Mallett that the Spread can thrive with a relatively immobile QB? And, by relatively, I mean completely.

I never understood the whole "OMG Mallett doesn't fit Coach Rod's system!!!" Rodriguez has consistently fit his spread to his skill players, NOT the other way around. I'd be more than happy to see #15 (the one who doesn't wear jorts) next year running the offense we saw today.

Gravatar i agree that tebow was stopped as much as possible, given his absolutely integral role in that offense. and i also agree that, as the game went on, his performance dropped. i really think the blitzing got to his head....the little clock in his head accelerated b/c he knew the pressure was coming. we didn't have a lot of sacks, but the pressure was there and the secondary had a bigger game than the DL, imo. they were white on rice, save a few mismatches (LBs on the slot) and bad position/miscomm on 2 TDs.

i still think that UF, while they have good talent across the field at the skill positions, recognizes that they have 2 special players, maybe a 3rd. michigan, by any account, have 3-4 special players who can be counted on the make a big run/throw/catch. hence UFs focus on harvin/tebow, and our more balanced attack.

Gravatar @ TheTruth

The only thing Arrington needs to improve is his top-end speed, I think. He has great hands and runs good routes. He gets open without great speed. If he thinks he can get faster (and become a flat-out gamebreaker) with another year in college, I think he'll stay.

I heard he was projected as a fourth round pick or lower, but I don't see how that's possible. He's a faster, more athletic Jason Avant, and I believe Avant was a 4th-rounder.

Gravatar TheTruth,

When AA and MM were underclassmen, Arrington was higher on the depth chart and was supposed to be better than Mario. But he had a season-ending injury in the Notre Dame game that year, and Manningham moved up the depth chart, and, well...

I wouldn't be surprised if Arrington left for the pros, but I actually think it would be better for Arrington if he stayed. He hasn't had a year where he's the go-to guy, and I think he could really benefit from that. Remember how good Marquise Walker was after Terrell left for the pros? I see the same thing here...

Gravatar Anyone else rooting for Ha'wai'i ?

Gravatar Nary a word on ESPN's front page about the game. Big surprise.

Gravatar What traditions will rich rod keep? Anyone think that someone will don the number 1 jersey? How about the helmet stickers? I would like to see the helmet stickers come back.

Gravatar right about now the Rose Bowl probably wished that they invited Missouri or Kansas instead. what a disgrace.

Gravatar I'm firmly opposed to helmet stickers...

Gravatar @ cfaller96

Where was Walker drafted? I remember he had a great season, but it didn't vault him into the first round...

If there's a recent comparison to any receiver, I'd say Arrington and Walker are the most similar (more so than Avant, Terrell, etc.).

Gravatar "Isn't this GREAT!!! If ONLY M had opened the playbook like that against OSU."

That game plan wasn't available while Henne's wing was broken.

Gravatar @ TheTruth

I believe Stonum has already been promised the #1 jersey.

Gravatar if AA gets a good eval from the nfl, he's gone. why come back if you're a top 25 or so pick? i don't see him being a top 10 guy in 09* if he stays, so i'd guess he might be gone too. of course, the other side of the coin is that he just saw what the offense might be next year. yeah, he might have liked it.

*by the way, i haven't received my hover car yet...anyone else have this problem?

Gravatar Magnus,

Really? thats interesting I hadn't heard that yet.

By the way English to Louisville official, not sure if anyone has mentioned that.

Gravatar Anyone watching the Sugar Bowl? Bonerama? Seriously?

Gravatar @ DanK

I heard that Arrington got a 4th round grade.

Gravatar Yeah, I heard that a while back. IIRC, Braylon Edwards donated money for something (the new academic facility?), but part of the deal was that he would get to determine, or help determine, who would wear the #1 jersey.

Gravatar Bonerama !!!!

Feel the Magic !!!!

I saw the same rumor about #1 as well, the truth in it, I can't comment on.

Gravatar Heard that about Stonum too.

I believe it is part of Braylon's donation to the school, where the money pays for the scholarship of the player wearing the No. 1.

Gravatar Great Win, anybody else wondering why the offnense was not opened up as much all year? Lets not forget that when we praise this staff!

Gravatar I think the #1 jersey tradition is solid, with Braylon's endowed scholarship program in place.

Gravatar no helmet stickers, please.

Gravatar that kid from Indianapolis who de-committed on signing day last year for the Gators, he has to be feeling like a big turd sandwich about now, eh? forget his name. . . .

Gravatar After this year, and this bowl, my vote for the #1 rests with AA.

Gravatar @ TorontoBlue

You're thinking of Jerimy Finch. He broke his ankle in the first week or two of the season and hasn't played since.

Gravatar Toronto:

Jeremi Finch. Broke his leg earlier this year, I think

Gravatar And, to those of you that watched on TV, did they actually try a screen to Jake Long ?

Gravatar leg, ankle same thing

Gravatar Correct me if i'm wrong but I think the #1 jersey is going to Stonum next year...

Gravatar yes, that was an attempted to screen to Jake

Gravatar I saw it, but I didn't believe it, I thought someone else might have been close.

Gravatar Magnus,

Lol, really?

Gravatar I wanted that screen to Long to work soooooooo bad.

Would have been a 20 minute play for 6 yards.

Gravatar Jake was wide open too. . .remember when he had to jump out of an upper story window when his house in AA caught on fire his first year??

Gravatar Pat Sharrow's career ended because of that jump out of that window. Imagine if the same thing had happened to Long.

Gravatar And, since I'm asking TV veiwers:

Did anyone else see the middle of the end zone wiiiiiiiiide open on the first 2 UF TD's ?

Gravatar @ scalz1

Yes. I believe Jamar Adams really sucks at coverage. It looked like Trent thought he had inside help on that one TD pass.

Gravatar I hate to be a debbie downer, because the team played amazing today, but doesn't beating the snot out of one of the most talented teams in the nation just make you think of what might've been? The whole game I was thinking "so this is how good we were supposed to be."

On the bright side, what a great way to send Lloyd out, winning against all conventional wisdom and looking absolutely dominant in doing so. Congrats on a great career.

Gravatar Kraus and Rivas lived in that house too. . .interesting group.

Gravatar I thought so. I was calling the plays from the stands.

Although I called zone left more than UM ran it.

Gravatar You guys looked so slow while you won that game.

Gravatar @ MusketRebellion

Somewhat...but those things happen sometimes. I fully believe we would have beaten Wisconsin and possibly OSU if Hart and Henne were healthy.

I'm just glad we got to see them put it all together before the end of the season. I missed being excited about Michigan's offense.

Gravatar as bad as adams may be in coverage, I think he will thrive in the 3-3-5 because he tackles and blitzes fairly well. Someone pointed out his LB/S hybrid capabilities around the time we hired RR. He'll have help in coverage but still be a solid option for D

Gravatar Adams is out of eligibility. This was his last game.

Gravatar I felt dirty at the end for feeling so happy for a TSUN coach and his fans.

Take that SEC!

Gravatar I was watching those first 2 TDs and I was like : "Isn't Sears off the team ???"

Gravatar @Magnus,

oops, point taken.

Gravatar Why on earth did the NCAA sell BCS coverage (well most of it) to FOX who doesn't cover it any other time of the year? It seems like they pump a ton of money into production value, but the product is so crappy.

Gravatar I heard Sears might end up at Fresno State.

USC just beat Illinois, 49-17.

Illinois is overrated.

Gravatar Biggest win in the last 4 years for sure. God Bless Lloyd, the staff, and the players for one of the best days I can remember. Way to send Llyod out in style. God bless all your cotton pickin' maize and blue hearts. Hail to the Victors, baby! Hail to the Victors!

Gravatar @Musket

How many other teams can say that right now? I am really proud to support UM today. Who thought UM would win ? No one. I'm very happy that I support UM today. A bunch of seniors could have mailed it in, but they showed up for their coach, and themselves.

Gravatar Brennan got rocked on a nonplay (delay of game). Great start.

Gravatar Still prefer the old rainbow helmets for Hawaii

Gravatar @ scalz

Florida's fight song blares from two speakers, attached to a golf cart trailing the first-string offense, as Carr attempts to simulate the Gators' home-field atmosphere at the Capital One Bowl — just a 2-hour drive from their campus.

"Focus!" Carr screams into the Chad Henne-led huddle.

Toward the end of the workout at Freedom High School, a play Carr has always wanted to run is practiced. All-American tackle Jake Long catches a screen pass on the left side of the field and sprints toward the end zone.

Gravatar Hou -
I actually lived in Hawaii for 3 years. You'll meet no better fans anywhere. The tailgates there are legendary. I, too, miss the rainbow warriors.

Gravatar BCS on FOX is such an abortion, from the afterthought Sunday night shows during the season to the crews doing those BCS games.

Gravatar The first team that score is storming the endzone. I can feel it coming.

Gravatar I think Adams could be a linebacker in the league. But I agree that his understanding of pass coverages seems to be lacking. We had a ton of corner-safety miscommunication this year.

Gravatar @colin

See first 2 UF TDs today

Gravatar pro helmet stickers say "I"

Gravatar nay

Gravatar Re: Pride stickers

No.

Gravatar I just got off the phone with my nephew. He has a buddy who sells real estate in AA. Supposedly T. Pryor's wife just bought a house in AA.

Gravatar Not sure if this has been posted yet, but it's required reading...

http://www.mlive.com/newsflash/i...igan& thispage=1

Gravatar damn, ok.............

Gravatar Great game. If Hart didn't fumble the ball twice, it would have been a twenty point win. It doesn't matter though. They still won. Michigan has shown all of Florida's future opponents how to beat them. Tebow is a joke like the Illinois football team. Michigan (Michigan beat Illinois, if they wanted to keep the Big 10/Pac 10 tradition) or Missouri should have played USC.

Anyways, the season started on a terrible note, but ended very nicely. By the way, I don't feel bad about the loss to Appalachian St. because they won their third straight Div. 1 FCS championship this year (they could beat at least 1/2 of the FBS teams) & Oregon was on track to play in the National Championship until Dixon went down.

Rodriguez has to like what he saw and I am excited about the future of Michigan football. Michigan will win a National Championship within the next four years. I guarantee it. Especially if Pryor and McGuffie come to Ann Arbor. I hope that goes to a non Big Ten team/Michigan opponent where he can get some playing time in a system that fits him.

Gravatar THERE IS A GOD! Man, life is finally good again. Living in SEC country, next door to a former Gator football player and many Gator and Bulldog fans I gotta say... man, this is going to be a great week! Can't wait to buy my victory hat/t-shirt-sweatshirt... not that I'd rub it in :) Can't wait to be a TOTAL PAIN IN THE ASS!

Seriously. I'm clearly not a LC fan, but my hat's off to his staff's game plan and the team's motivation. This game pretty much reinforces what I've been saying for years... With our talent, we should have been dominating for years.

I am very excited that with our current and future talent, coupled with couch Rod and the new staff, we're going to see some great things!

Go Blue!

Gravatar Damn, no side line warning. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a fight. I still feel let down that MSU didn't get into one. It's going to happen somewhere. Hawai'i is "chippy" normally. Bulldogs are classless SEC endzone stompers.

Gravatar u will understand LC's "100%/60-minute promise" comment in his presser when you read aboug Jim Mandich's team visit here:

http://www.mlive.com/newsflash/i...igan& thispage=1

good stuff. . .

Gravatar AA as a 4th rounder? wow....i wonder how they evaluate these guys w/o combine results. if true, i'm sure he'll stay.

not a fan of the helmet stickers, the clean look of the winged helmet is better than the alternative.

Gravatar I kinda enjoyed the "DUDE" commercials, until Joe Buck showed up. They should be saying "Douche...".

Gravatar I still find it weird the coincidence in the capital one commercials where they guy wants a credit card with cute kittens on it.

Gravatar @ DanK

I think they have to. Isn't the deadline to declare for the draft BEFORE the combine? I'm not sure, but I thought so...

Gravatar *kittens being the theme here when times are bad or we need some intangible help

Gravatar This just in from Orlando....

I saw a behind the scenes footage of the press room, Jim Carty looks out of shape.

Gravatar Also, FWIW, GBW is reporting that Mallet's father was telling people that he will stay through the spring and decide from there

Gravatar Just watched the game here in Iraq what a way to shut up the haters

Gravatar This was already posted, but you guys really need to read it:

Reporter follows Lloyd for his last days as coach

Gravatar And for the record, the quote on the previous thread from last night at 3 or so isn't from me. I blacked out at about 1:30 and got put to bed by an angry and bitter girlfriend. I don't know who wrote that.

Gravatar That is one of the best pieces I have ever read about Michigan Football. It is a must read folks!!

http://www.mlive.com/newsflash/i...igan& thispage=1

Gravatar That mlive article is pretty good. I always like to know what behind-the-scenes is like.

Gravatar LOL@ old fan

Gravatar Alright, formerlyanon...

I'll admit my ignorance. Being relatively new to this blog, (since maybe july or august) I haven't yet figured out where the kittens thing comes from, or its significance. I vividly remember shortly after either the horror or Oregon, turning on mgoblog and seeing the kittens above titled, "Awww, what's the matter little guy??" and thinking, "...WTF???" Somebody help?

Gravatar magnus...yea, that's my question...given the importance of the combines.....how could the nfl give an accurate draft position before then? i mean, if AA goes off at the combine and runs a 4.5, he's GOT to be better than a 4th rounder. so, what is this preliminary draft status request based on?

Gravatar @ M Go Baghdad

Thank you, the rest is unimportatnt.

Gravatar Thanks to the Year of Infinite Pain, Brian and the readers needing some comfort from something/anything was a pretty common occurence. Brian chose kittens and what a boon they have proven.

...I don't think it's anymore specific than that. I've been reading since before the '05 season began and have tracked back and read everything I didn't, because I'm a total fanboy nerd.

Gravatar Mark May is going to get Hester's legs broken.

As for 0-8. Funny story, tOSU is undefeated against LSU. Stop talking about things that don't matter!

Gravatar @mgobleu

I believe it started with the game previews for big games such as OSU/bowls. As you see in the Florida preview with the kitten picture with bowie. Brian was big with lolcats before they hit mainstream. Why he went to them post horror, I'm not sure.

Gravatar Dan,

You sure AA can run a 4.5? I think he'd actually benefit by leaving now because there's less evidence about him and he left on a such a high note. The more exposure you have to scouts, the less likely they are to misread you.

Obviously this can work the other way, but I'm sort of assuming that Arrington's performance will carry him.

Gravatar I think all early to the NFL announcements have to come sometime within the next two weeks....just going by memory, though.

Gravatar The mlive article is great.

My favorite part:

"The strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack." Rudyard Kipling

Not a bad way to get a defense motivated. These kids really did get something special with their education. I can't see these kids at Georgia getting anything not from Bubba Sparx.

Gravatar What a good win today! That was the significant win we have lacked in many years. Talk about awesome

Gravatar SEC can suck my balls as well. That said, Moreno is incredible and I sense total Hawaiian destruction.

Gravatar The following people on here before the game flamed anybody who tried to be optimistic about the game, acting like you knew more than the average joe about reasons we did'nt stand a chance against Florida.I think you all owe everybody a huge apology,or maybe you don't have the backbone to do that:

DanK
samsoccer7
formerlyanonymous
colin
scalz1
Magnus
Meeechigan Dan

Don

Gravatar Show me flaming anyone.

I challenge you.

Direct copy, include the thread.

Gravatar I've been reading since before the '05 season began and have tracked back and read everything I didn't, because I'm a total fanboy nerd.

ditto, colin.

Gravatar the poem, law of the jungle is great...

when i first came to north carolina in 1999, i came to a highschool with great tradition... 3 state cahmpionships during the 80's the program has run itno bad times, with only a couple old coaches from the good ole days...

when you walk into the lockerroom... there was an old wooden bullitin board. which was put there in the 80's.... when the season started before every game... the team would kneel before the board... say their prayer, then begin reciting the words to the poem.... the title of the poem, "the law of the jungle" it had a few more lines added too it to make it a "tigers" poem... but by the end of the reciting, the players were shouting, and were in a frenzy... brought goose bumps... pretty awesome that poem, and it was so cool, that people not asscociated with michigan in anyway, shared a common element...

Gravatar I'm Waiting.....

Gravatar blue 66, here's my apology:

kiss my ass, mouthbreather.

Gravatar Blue66

Totally unfounded. Never was a nay sayer.

Gravatar colin, i have no clue about his 40 time. but that's the point...neither does the nfl till the combine, right? at least not officially.

i just want to know the metrics that the nfl uses to give these prelim evals.

Gravatar You can wait all you want. My challenge still stands. I would venture to say scalz1 and colin did no flaming either, but I can't be sure I read every comment posted recently. The others they post so frequently I have no idea on.

Gravatar They did not flame the optimists, they shared their opinion, nothing wrong with that!

Gravatar I didn't flame anyone, but if you'd asked me before today which was more likely:

1) Lloyd outcoaching Urban Meyer; or,

2) Rosie O'Donnell appearing in the SI swimsuit issue

I'd have picked #2.

I am in awe of the job this coaching staff did preparing for this game. What a surprise. Best since 1997.

Gravatar @ Dank.. First thing you might want to do is brush all the cheetos and twinkie wrappers off your work station, then wipe the sweat off the rolls on your forehead with one of your stubby cigar sized fingers, you overweight, little debbies snack cake eating, piece of shit.

.

Gravatar And we're the ones flaming apparently.

Gravatar Blue66,
I cant speak for every moment over the weekend, but the only person doing any flaming on these boards on Sunday night when I was on, was you.

Gravatar If this team and coaching crew had done this kind of play calling throughout the season, we would be playing in New Orleans on January 7 instead of OSU. Wow. It was great to watch but I feel kind of sad for the missed opportunity this year.

Gravatar hard to be agressive when your gun slinger didnt have a gun for half the year, and your runner didnt have a foot for more than half...

Gravatar who are we looking at for DC

Gravatar Soon I'll start posting actual posts ,and you tell me if you did'nt flame anybody who said they liked Michigans chances.

You sicken me.

.

Gravatar That was my challenge to you. And the feeling is mutual.

Gravatar And add me to the list of folks who didn't think we had a chance against Florida. I won't appologize for that. I will just accept the good and slowly get over this hangover which is already starting to appear. I don't usually drink that much during a game but I was nervous as hell and kept swigging the beers. Freaking great game. Brilliant.

Gravatar went to the game. BEAUTIFUl.

went to the hotel last night and shook lloyd's hand and thanked him for the last 13 years and all he's given for michigan. he thanked me.

took a picture with jake and got my shirt signed by him and henne.

unbelievable game. GAH!

Gravatar would nto be suprised to see tenuta as our next dc

Gravatar I envy you even more bored at work.

Gravatar i'd rather be eating cheetos than restocking them for $7.25/hr.

Gravatar went with my gf who's a uf fan (we both went to UF). i think we're broken up now.

oh FUCKIN well.

Gravatar I leaned over to the UF fans next to me at halftime and said: "I thought we would be down by 10, at least"

Thank whatever is sacred I was wrong, and I'm glad I went to support UM

Gravatar tenuta, english or the orgeron for DC. it might be a push for all 3 for me.

Gravatar My assistant at work played on Florida's Spurrier coached National Championship team. Do you think tomorrow morning is going to be fun!!!

Gravatar I totally never saw this coming.

I admit to trashing Mike Hart for trash-talking when, at the time, he had no wins against OSU nor any bowl wins and had in fact fumbled against Florida in today's game. Take your fucking degree and get the hell out of Ann Arbor, do what you can to make the roster of whatever NFL team drafts you, and please SHUT THE HELL UP if you possibly can. This just looks flat-out BAD.

But knowing we beat UF despite doing all we could to self-destruct, well...I haven't been more proud of UM football since the 2006 ND game...well, that's damn cool. Good on ya, Lloyd...Russell Crowe owes you the lager tonight.

Chad Henne might be a legitimate NFL QB after all...he was a MONSTAH (New England term) today. The UM WR corps was completely sick. As against-the-grain as it is to dis Lloyd on his last day as head ball coach, it is clear that Michigan has always had the talent to compete for championship-level football, but have been unable to overcome the coaching (Michael Vick term).

RichRod is going to be a sideline god in AA...I can't wait for Signing Day.

I'm beginning to think that OSU is going to beat (possibly thrash) LSU. I don't know whay, and I don't know if I'm in favor of it (I hate OSU, but the notion of a "national champion" having two losses pisses me off)...but I'm afraid a decent year for the Big Ten means an awful off-seaon for Michigan (OSU fans celebrating another national championship in the same decade).

The Rose Bowl completely fucked college football fans by picking Illinois. They had no game at all. UGA would have been a MUCH better opponent.

Hawai'i is no Boise State, unfortunately. Damn shame. They've got the Colt, but they just don't have the horses to play in this game.

Gravatar Who the fuck cares who flamed who. Michigan just played one the best bowl games in its history; sent Lloyd out on a positive note; and showed those SEC a-holes that the Big Ten has speed too. Back to what matters.

Gravatar saw mike in the hotel and was approaching him and he took off towards the elevator. i get the feeling he's a jackass.

jake, on the other hand, came up to us and offered to sign my shirt because earlier he couldn't...bc he had to go back inside for their meeting. awesome guy.

Gravatar @ Johnny Sideburns...way too long johnny.

Gravatar DanK +1 very funny.

I had dubious hopes myself about us winning the game, but I think i was fairly consistent and repetitive on this board about taking Michigan with points and the over.....time and time again, i said we should be able to put 30 on these guys.

Of course, I also said time and time again, that the Illini could hang within 14 of USC and that one would go Under....ugh...Jim Harbaugh Scramble, if you are out there, happy new year and I should have listened to you about the RB.

Gravatar @ hou blue .."Who the fuck cares who flamed who." Lets have no complaints in future then....alot of cry babies on here.

Gravatar love it that Carr was smoking a stogie as he left the locker room and boarded the team bus. "i'm trying to quit." the old professor enjoys a few worldly vices after all. . . . .

Gravatar Sideburns,
The underdog in the BCS Title game is 7-2 straight up.....something to think about.

Gravatar The universe IS just, after all. That game was just so damn beautiful. Bless Lloyd and his team, for winning with integrity.

Gravatar Not only can the SEC suck my balls, but so can those of you who went to the game. Totally jealous. Nothing like being there live. Unfortunately, of the last 4 games my wife and I have been to, 3 of them were ball state, (almost lost) rose bowl last year and the horror.

Haven't been to a game since because we're pretty sure we're bad luck.

Gravatar anyone know if the game is going to be broadcast later on? i really want to dvr it.

Gravatar OMG NEW PORNOGRAPHERS SONG! USE IT!

...I love Twin Cinema super hard. And I can't believe they played a decent song.

Gravatar "The strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack," Steele says, ending the passage without hesitating in an elevator.

Chills. That gave me chills.

The good kind.

Gravatar \way too long johnny.//

I took the time to read every Goddamned comment in this thread...I started reading before the Sugar Bowl started...the least I could do is run a stream-of-consciousness post, 'cause I'm drinking and I don't know if I'm going to be fit to post anythign else the way the Sugar Bowl's going.

Gravatar can only see one game next year, which one do i pick? Utah or Little Brother? please advise. . .

Gravatar To all you jealous fans for not being there:
I live in FL, last UM game I saw was UT-UM Citrus Bowl
I deserve this

Gravatar Little brother. Definitely.

Gravatar EMB@W,

my rcn guide says college football from tampa being replayed at 2am on espn and fort worth on espn2.

I would assume ESPN classic later in the week.

Gravatar Back from the game... First, The Citrus Bowl is a toilet. The field was dingy, the structure of the stadium was crap, and it felt more like a NASCAR event than a football atmosphere. I hear all about southern football tradition, but you wouldn't know it at this tacky dump, where the bands were constantly drowned out by awful TV theme songs, screeching metal music, and a barrage of scoreboard commercials played at twice the volume of the stadium announcements (again, when the bands were playing Go Blue or Go Gators). Don't even start me on the pre-game and halftime shows. Atrocious and amateur. Let the bands play FFS! If anything, it made me long for the COLLEGE FOOTBALL ATMOSPHERE of the Big House. Our stadium is class, as are our fans. We sang and chanted all game long. No idea how it was mic'd for TV, but it felt good in our section. We sat two section over from the band, and we were completely surrounded by Michigan fans (with a few Gators mixed in) from our section all the way to the band, where the players came and celebrated after the game. It was a very safe, friendly atmosphere.

There were def. some annoying things happening on the field; We were constantly covering Harvin with Ezeh or Engelmon, and when he was allowed to get past the line of scrimmage, he torched us. We should have hung two more touchdowns on them; The only one who could stop our offense was us. But the most impressive thing I saw all day was Jake Long. I don't know what got shown on TV in terms of when the ball went past the line of scrimmage, but Long absolutely destroyed everything in his path. I am not joking when I say that I saw him deliver at least 12 pancakes in the first half alone, and his destruction of FL's #32, when he pinned the kid to the ground off the ball and held him there for a good ten seconds after the play lets me know that he's got a good nasty streak in him; What a player.

Anyway. It was an amazing experience and my wife's first ever Michigan game. I will try to make sure she attends as many as possible from now on.

I never wanna hear the SEC crap anymore; We're 6-1 in our last seven against the conference? All four FL teams lost their bowl games? Time for a little shut the f*ck up.

Gravatar Sideburns,
Post as long as you want brother....pay no attention to that dude...on Sunday he bitched we weren't talking exclusively about UM football then called everybody lame ass nerds for doing nitty gritty breakdowns of football plays.....of course, he leveled that complaint within a UFR thread, so he's a bit bi-polar.

Gravatar Tom-

The Citrus Bowl isn't an SEC stadium. Don't judge the conference on it.

Gravatar @blue 66 9:40 pm:

I think I have to sign that note as well. I don't think I flamed anyone, but I'm on record as writing the game off within five minutes of the matchup announcement (I forget which thread).

Mea culpa, mea maximua culpa.

Anyway, I got a highlight reel up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x...h? v=xFIAoIPSKek

Gravatar http://photos1.blogger.com/ blogg...ctures_28.1.jpg

I know this goes back a ways, but my own personal favorite kitten from mgoblog.

Gravatar lil bro, no doubt. the heat for that utah opener will be brutal.

Gravatar The only thing I asked for was a reason to be optimistic about our chances. That's just rational.

In any case, unless you're some sort of disingenuous ass who can't read or understand the internet well enough to use it properly, I haven't been mean. And I generally dislike terms like "flame" or "troll". If it isn't in the interest of knowledge or funny, it's crap.

So whatevs. You're a yawn-fest who can't come to terms with his own inability to process information.

Gravatar For anyone that wants the six minute version of today's game

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l...h?v=l7Fg7- ILPHQ

Gravatar I don't remember flaming anyone, except for that one MSU troll who said I spelled something wrong.

As for the game, I honestly thought we would lose, so did 91% of the nation. I also knew if we had our guys healthy, and we opened up the playbook a little bit, there was a small chance we could win. Well, we won, and I'm oh so mf'in pumped about it!

Gravatar We also need to update LC's record vs top-10 teams, by the way!!

Gravatar Now this is the Law of the Jungle -- as old and as true as the sky;
And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the Wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk the Law runneth forward and back --
For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

Gravatar That heat, I forgot! After the horror I was sure I had sun poisoning. I changed eight shades over the course of the game.

P.S. Ouch. Rivers. Wow.

Gravatar One 5 loss season in 23 years. No other University can claim that. Consistency has always been a major Michigan trait, I only hope it continues.

Gravatar My bitch about today's game is simply this:

If we could run this kind of offense today, why in fuck's name couldn't we do it earlier this year...or last year, or the year before that?

My take is that RichRod DEFINITELY has started working with this team in one way or another...and that the first series was a wake-up call to Ryan Mallett to let him know that HE CAN PLAY FOR RICHROD IN THIS OFFENSE.

My feeling is that RichRod would prefer to get Terrell Pryor because he's closer to Pat White, skills-wise...but if he doesn't get him, he's proven what the offense can do with a lanky immobile white dude at QB.

For what it's worth, I think the Oregon result against USF should have solidified that, as well.

Damn, I was hoping Hawai'i had some game tonight.

Gravatar @scalz1-

Not judging the SEC at all; I have to believe the FL band and their fans were equally annoyed at the start of the 4th Q when they tried to do their traditional song (everyone swaying back and forth) and some obnoxious commercial was blaring on the PA and you couldn't hear the band. Who was operating the scoreboard!?!?! Let the atmosphere come from the fans! Just saying that stadium is a toilet. No one plays there for a reason.

I split my time between FL and NYC for work, so I know get to hear this SEC dominance, FL football dominance crap non-stop; Just feels good to work them in what was essentially a home game. In a dump.

Gravatar We also need to update LC's record vs top-10 teams, by the way!!//

No we don't...UF was #12 when this game started.

Gravatar That catch by Arrington was one of the best I've ever seen, college or pro. And Jake Long is my hero. I live in the South and it make me want to cry with joy that the SEC goes down to my Wolverines.

Gravatar I'm beginning to think that OSU is going to beat (possibly thrash) LSU.

I think that's a real possibility. Mark May has angered the Vest, the Gholston, and the Animal. Word is they have DVD's of Mark May running his mouth, and they've been told to watch them every day until the bowl game.

Gravatar Tom-
As a central Fl native, that is our best venue. It's old, and in the ghetto, and it's not great. I do recall the start of the 4th when the commercial was blaring, but it is a bowl game, not a reg season game. Anyway, thanks for making the trip and supporting UM.

Gravatar The one reason I could think of to like Michigan in the game, from the Preview post:

"Also, considering how obvious this blowout is, I'm wondering if there's something we're missing. It would be just like Lloyd to win this game. Has anyone actually seen Florida play? I haven't. Any chance their OL sucks? That could be a big difference maker."

Already posted it, but apparently it matters whether or not I think Michigan can win every game it plays.

Gravatar Any torrents of the entire game up?

Gravatar Collin,

I am convinced we won primarily because of my pessimism heading in.

Tomorrow, I plan to cause peace in the Middle East by thinking about waffles.

Gravatar Sideburns,
I did not know their ranking, but I just read an espn article which called them the #9 Gators...posted here w/o double checking.....are you saying that ESPN might have made a mistake, say it aint so?!?!? lol.

Gravatar I'm beginning to think this whole SEC speed thing was in comparison to the WAC!

Gravatar Florida was No. 9 in the AP

Gravatar Mike reporting back from the UF Student Section...GREATEST GAME EVER! And to my brother with the yellow Michigan hockey jersey and the flowing locks of blonde hair, I salute you. Together, we caused havoc and represented U of M with class and passion.

Gravatar @scalz1-

Do you work for the chamber of commerce? I kid. I kid.

Yes, I KNOW it was a Bowl game, but why not operate it with some class? I don't blame the schools or conferences for that, but it was tacky.I will say-- we parked in the satellite lot at the Fairgrounds and the bus service to and from the stadium was amazing. Like I said, I live here part-time, I know and like FL. Coming to the game was a two hour drive for me; a no brainer.

Curious if anyone knows how many games SEC teams have played over the Mason Dixon line in the past few years? It gets old watching these schools constantly getting what are essentially home games and then gloating about their bowl success; Same goes for USC! Time for a playoff and for these teams to travel and put their asses in some weather and in some hostile non-Conference environments.

Gravatar Here's my own mea culpa, as an avowed Hawai'i supporter/apologist: Missouri would be a better BCS representative. And I honestly thought UH had something for Georgia today.

Gravatar Every time hou blue posts, I think of Homer saying, "They can call you Ho Ju!"

Gravatar nice, always count on Homer

Gravatar @ JohnnySideburns
"My bitch about today's game is simply this:

If we could run this kind of offense today, why in fuck's name couldn't we do it earlier this year...or last year, or the year before that?"

I think this year we can point to injuries and being underprepared/unmotivated.
Can't help the injuries but the other two, can't explain.

As far as last year and the years prior, no excuse. You are 100% correct.

Oh well, Que Sera Sera...

Gravatar LLOYD CARR IN YOUR FACE SON

Gravatar Tom -

No employment in the service industry, but I know much of the economy here relies on people visiting. I am always hospitable, unless people don't know their place here.
I agree that the commercials were a bit much, but it is a bowl, driven by corporations. So, you have to give to get, I guess.
Glad you enjoy the sunshine state, feel free to visit and bring all the money you like to our economy.

Gravatar Eventually it's going to come out exactly what happened this past offseason that made us come out so unprepared. I speculated that it was Lloyd giving his assistants a tryout and they either couldn't do it or failed because of unclear hierarchy. Really, though, it's hard to say.

They may have finally learned that you need to respect and go balls out against whomever you play, though it's not like Florida is ever someone to overlook.

Either way, I'm giving thanks.

Gravatar Congrats...I told you guys if you could hang 30+ on 'em you could win. Good for Lloyd too. It was nice to see him leave on the shoulders of the players.

Yeah Heisman curse! Boo SEC!

Gravatar I had almost forgotten what this felt like.....

Gravatar Anyone notice how classy the most visible FL fans have been in defeat so far? Probably not a very representative sampling, but both Shanoff and EDSBS have very complimentary posts. tOSU fans seem to be saying nice things as well.

My theory? This game has fixed everything that was wrong with the world, and human conflict is now a thing of the past.

Kinda like a real life version of Wild Stalyonz.

Gravatar michigan fans should omit the "t" in tOSU what's the big deal with the THE anyway? Either way I don't think we should promote that here. Just a thought.

Gravatar Nice Bill and Teds!

Gravatar @ JohnnySideburns

Oh yea, also, poor coaching, game plans and lack of adjustments.
Maybe that explains the last 4 years.
Too many beers have been consumed to think about it any longer...

Go Blue!

'Night All...

Gravatar @ The Actual

You weren't in Orlando. 95% - 5% Asshats to classy fans there. The UF fans showed up for an execution, and got suprised. They weren't happy.

Gravatar If the Bowl's going up on torrents it'll be here

Refresh every now and then.

Also, to those interested, I'm pretty sure I'm seeding the WVU-Rutgers game that can be found after going through the pages for a while.

Gravatar And for everyone singing the praises of Mr. English...dudes, 35 points...that's what, 3 points less (exactly one blocked field goal) than the points given up against Texas in the 2005 Rose Bowl? Not exactly awe-inspiring...if RichRod wants a different DC, I'm willing to trust his judgement. Florida's lack of defense won this game for UM...a defense that gives up more than 30 points is going to lose far more many games than it wins.

Gravatar whoever asked about playing north of the mason dixon, USC is starting a home and home with tOSU in the next few years.

I'm sure you could probably care less about vandy, but they did play at UM recently.

Gravatar I care about Vandy - my sister goes there. Good program, they just don't get alot of talent.

Gravatar LLOYD CARR IN YOUR FACE SON!

Gravatar Anyone else ever wonder what it would be like if a marching band did some Sigur Ros? I would love to hear Glosoli from Takk or #4 from ().

If anyone's got sway with Boerma, they should bring that to him.

/wishful thinking

Gravatar yea, but UF scored more than 10 UNDER their per game average against us....and no TOs for them either.

Gravatar Can we please stop with the back-and-forth love fest with Buckeye fans? It's making me sick...

Trust me, if they hadn't beaten us 5 out of the last 6, or even if they just hadn't beaten us this year, they wouldn't be so enamored.

Hell, I loved the Buckeyes during the John Cooper years... They were pretty much a great annual win for us.

P.S. - They are trash... Get ready for next year, and Go Blue!

Gravatar I meant Vandy in terms of crossing the mason dixon line to play. They aren't the top program that pads itself with home games or games down south.

Gravatar Other than Harvin (and linebackers), Michigan seemed to have superior talent across the board today.

QB, Receivers, OL, DL, Secondary, Running Back....I thought UM looked to have better athletes and playmakers at each of those positions.

Gravatar I will renew my pitch for a bowl game in Lambeau field.

At the very least, one in the new minnesota dome. Why must we play in the south. You can not tell me that it's because people are looking to vacation in...

Mobile, Alabama
Jacksonville, Florida
Atlanta
Nashville
El Paso
Boise
Fort Worth
Shreveport, LA
Houston
or Albuquerque

Gravatar TAEG,

That's because Shanoff and Orson are good guys and great writers.

Gravatar \Hell, I loved the Buckeyes during the John Cooper years... They were pretty much a great annual win for us.//

It's true...during the Cooper Years (God bless them), Notre Dame was a mor threatening rival for Michigan...which is sad, because during that time, Boston College was a more threatening rival for Notre Dame. Get it up yis, ye Franciscan bastirts!

Gravatar I don't know about you guys, but I very much dislike the SEC, but I don't think I can really root for OSU to win a MNC. If they were in some other BCS game against an SEC team, sure, I'm all about it. But I just don't want to see them win a MNC. Them congratulating us is sorta the way we root for MSU and PSU and Ill to win their other games to make us look good. I'm not falling for it. Go LSU.

Gravatar old fan,

I have vacationed in 6 of those cities, but wouldn't mind seeing a major bowl at Lambeau.

Gravatar Points per possession, yards per play, etc. all point to English's success. The total number of points needs to be properly contextualized.

Gravatar Scalz,

True. I think I am reacting more to the fact that the literate FL guys seem to be going beyond the "we sucked, and yeah, I guess they played a decent game, but if we hadn't sucked we totally would've killed them" explanation.

Gravatar Wow.
The Georgia band just played Journey.

Ouch.

Gravatar @ formanon,

I tried to pick out your six, but couldn't. Either way, I don't think that many people are traveling to these bowl sites as a side trip to something else and they would love to the mecca of football (ford field, jk... I mean Lambeau).

Also, it would be more fair and in other college sports this is considered in the equation.

Gravatar Collin,

Also true. But still unusual, especially this soon after an emotional game.

I stick with my original theory: The Golden Age is upon us.

Gravatar Don't stop believing...

Gravatar @ samsoccer7:

This is the dilemma I find myself in...I can't pull for OSU to win anything...but a two-loss SEC team with the national championship? Seems to toe the CBS/ESPN line FAR too much.

Horrible, this idea.

I'm still trying to figure out how Texas Tech won today... the Big 12 may end up being the "best conference" this year.

Gravatar I cannot help myself...

This game ought to humble a lot of folks. All I have read for weeks and weeks is how bad Carr and his staff were, how great Meyer was, how Florida was going to kill us, how RR was going to save us.

All ya'll were wrong.

Gravatar re: Points per possession, yards per play...

colin, have you ever seen any actual attempt at these measures for CFB? i did some stuff a year or so ago...points per possession and yards per. but i took field position into account.

Gravatar This game shouldn't humble anyone who thought Michigan was better than they were coached this year.

Gravatar @The Atcual

You'd be suprised how many "literate" Floridians there are. We(native Fl's) get a bad rap. Although, I do agree that Florida is the twilight zone, and there are a number of Floridians that are sans teeth, employment and any kind of common sense.

Gravatar I will root against the buckeyes, but will not root for LSU. If tOSU wins, I will claim Big10 victory. If LSU wins, HURRAY BUCKEYES SUFFER!

Something we should all remember, Michigan proved itself. SEC homers cannot pick on us. We beat a very good team. People can't knock the Big10 in the same way anymore. If tOSU loses, they lose, it won't hurt the Big10 nearly as much.

Gravatar My rule: Big Ten above all (yes, includng OSU). I never understood why you would root against your conference -- if OSU wins out of conference, it just makes us look better, whether we beat them or not.

After that, it's just a question of who you root for to lose more, starting with the SEC (currently -- in prior decades, it would have been the Big 8)

Gravatar @old fan

Wouldn't it be nice to see a big ten team with a representative fanbase in the crowd, or at least something close?

Gravatar Blue23...I'm a native Southerner...and trust me, it's "y'all", as in, short for "you all". True story.

Just saw Lloyd choking up at his PC. Wow. Was 1997 really that long ago? How could this team play such uninspired ball for so much of 2007?

Gravatar I know too many OSU fans who would love to taunt me some more with "hey we won ANOTHER MNC, all you guys did was beat Florida in some second-rate bowl game." That alone makes me want them to lose. I don't see/meet/know enough LSU fans to care if they win.

Gravatar Apologies -- no offense intended scalz: Literate was the wrong word choice by me -- I should have said literary, at least in the bloggish sense.

Gravatar Sam-
OSU won a MNC with a convicted felon at RB, and after Miami's offense went down with a blown out knee. There was a shady call in the end zone.
I'd rather beat UF in a secondary bowl than win a championship like that.

Gravatar @ old fan

Mobile, Alabama (gambling)
Jacksonville, Florida (toured the state, but there isnt much to do)
Atlanta (coke, braves game, cnn tour)
Nashville (food, music)
El Paso (skiing)
Albuquerque (skiing)

Technically I live in Houston. so I didn't vacation there. But what is there to see in Green Bay? How much are people going to go out and spend money in the Green Bay area when its 18 degrees out? The city would have to invest heavily in it, and what will they get out of it.

Gravatar @ mgobleu,

I hate it when we aren't good fans because we don't travel to somewhere like San Antonio, Texas over the holidays, and the Big 12 team gets to travel one state. I have a 2 state radius where I would go see every game. That's alot of states and only Detroit has one (and you get to go if your season sucks). What about a game in Cincinatti's stadium. Ohio would literally have to put on a state of emergency.

Having said that, I would love to see 40,000 at the Michigan Spring game to show that we really care. Let's show RR some love.

Gravatar Samsoccer7 has it...OSU winning a national championship = TEH SUCK for Michigan fans everywhere. True story.

Gravatar @ The Actual

None taken. I'm glad that I know grammar and how to hunt wild pig.

Gravatar u dudes who were there - did UM fanz go crazy when we blocked 1st half field goal? defining moment for me on the couch - i realized we came to play when that occured. was that our first blocked fg of the season?

Gravatar Johnny Sideburns -

If you are from the south than you know the plural of y'all :)

Gravatar Yes. We must stop the wild pigs, and do so in an erudite manner.

Gravatar I mean, if OSU wins, I'll rationalize it and say the BigTen was better than advertised. If they lose, I'll be happy I don't have to hear shit from them (well, more shit from them, it just pours out of their mouths as if 2girls1cup was overly amateur). Between the 2, I root LSU.

Gravatar Dan,

I started to over the summer by hand, but I emailed Brian and he told me he was going to do it. As much as I was enjoying it, I figured I'd give him the opportunity.

I was just using yahoo's box scores, as they include a link to drive summaries.

What I would really like to do is generate some average expected points based on down, distance and yards from endzone like what they do at baseball prospectus for runners on X, Y outs. But I have no idea how to go about making that database of plays to get a useful average that wouldn't take ages and tons of people.

I always thought Brian would do well to write a UFR app that would generate the tables (but I'm sure it's hard as balls). Having attempted my own pseudo-UFRs, going play by play takes forever, not to mention doing tables in html. The idea of devoted bloggers each doing their team's UFR (stored centrally somewhere) that, combined with a standard language for formations and such, would be super super cool.

If only I were more technically able...

Gravatar @ Sam

I live in central Fl, I hear about the SEC every day, and I do know that it is a great conference. However much that I loathe OSU, a win vs LSU, and UM beating Florida would be a great vindication.

Gravatar The Actual El Guapo

I am sorry but OSU is our direct competition for recruiting and conference titles. I love seeing the Big 10 do well in bowl games but an OSU win will do nothing but hurt Michigan.

Go LSU

Gravatar @ formanon,

I have been to each of these as well, however I wasn't vacationing there for any of the trips. Visiting friends or on business.

The people who would go to Lambeau are 70,000 Wisconsin fans, 50,000 Michigan/ OSU. PSU/ Illinois fans, 40,000 Purdue/ MSU/ Northwestern fans, etc.... And about 2,000 SEC fans. But they would have a great time doing it, just like everyone who flocks to see a Green Bay game (even though they are an evil franchise).

What to do there? Go to a tremendous football game the way it was supposed to be played, drink, and laugh at frigid SEC fans.

Gravatar colin, that yahoo database is interesting. i was sure where to get field position info besides the UFRs.

my motive was to get something like what the B10Wonk did w/ basketball...tempo free, yards, points per poss. i did the numbers for most games last year, but only for M games. i can email the stuff to you, i think i still have it. i sent it to Brian, but he never got around to it.

Gravatar @old fan

Yeah, my wife and I were at the rose bowl last year, but only because we were on our honeymoon and drove over from vegas. There were a ton of UM fans there and the alumni tailgate party was tons of fun, but we filed into to bowl to see our little splotch of yellow swarmed by a sea of maroon.

Then, USC fans had the nerve to give us crap about not getting our fans to show up. They also didn't seem to care that we got stuck in a snowy airport, (which almost made us miss the game altogether) finally flew 4 hours to vegas, rented a car & extra hotel room in the middle of our 3 hour drive to Pasadena.

They drove 15 minutes across town.

Way to represent.

Gravatar Oh, and the Buffalo-Pittsburgh outdoor NHL game? Soccer on ice. And this from a dude who LOVES hockey.

Gravatar Try being a Michigan fan in Ohio. Their fans suck. Go Miles!

Gravatar Man a bowl at Lambeau would be an incredible experience. I really enjoyed Simmons' article when he went there. If I still cared about the NFL, I'd be blaspheming, as I'm nominally a Bears fan, but whatever.

Hell, a bowl game in Chicago would be a ton of fun too.

Gravatar old fan,

touche. to continue my devil's advocate stance: Travel concerns. What if there are feet of snow falling and close down the roads to get there? Late december/early january is the off season from natural disasters in the south (I consider snow closing freeways a natural disaster). How much money would be lost if fans can't make it to the games?

I half expect a reference to Packers fans making it to Lambeau in the playoffs, but packers fans are insane.

Gravatar Colt's mechanics bug the hell out of me.

Gravatar I went to med school in Ohio, 4 yrs, and their fans are PAINFUL. I'll never forget the days after losing to them. Bastards.

Gravatar OK, Revised stance.

Bowl game can be in Chicago, Cincinatti, Indianapolis, Minnesotta, Cleveland, and/or Detroit. Some of those are dome stadiums if we want to cater to the warm blooded.

I still say Lambeau, but the travel concerns are real. However I don't expect to many people to buy tickets the day of the game, so lost money shouldn't be a concern.

Gravatar Truthfully, the weather is crappy up north. Why wouldn't you want to come and see a 30 degree increase in the temp and some sunshine ?

Gravatar I have not even been able to speak for several hours now...but now that I can...HOLY SCHNIKES!!!!

Top 10 Ways I Will Enjoy This Win For Months...no...YEARS.

1) Urban "I'm a smarmy bastard" Cryer
2) Mark May whose masturbatory diatribes about Tim Tebow all year NONE of us should ever forget
3) Chad Henne taking little Heisman boy TO SCHOOL. PERIOD.
4) SEE #3
5) SEE #3
6) Lloyd getting teary after the game--me being one of his biggest coaching critics, I will always think he will always be an ambassador for our beloved university, better than all the rest (including Bo)
7) Mock Gator chomps on 1/1/08
8) See #7
9) Tebow picking half the field off of his helmet after that hit (AND THAT HIT NOT MAKING THE REPLAY REEL--ARE YOU F'ING KIDDING ME??!!)
10) Rich Rod being there to soak it all in--HAIL TO THE VICTORS!!!!!

happy new year to all the mgoblog buds whose comments I ruminate over each and every day...I will cherish this win for AT LEAST 3 months...GO BLUE!!!!

Gravatar Dan, yeah go ahead and email me.

Gravatar I agree on the bowl game locations. I've been to Shreveport and it's a hole. There was a huge write-up on Yahoo pointing out how crappy a location it is, especially if you're not old enough to gamble. Why doens't St. Louis have a bowl game? And Minneapolis definitely should. There's much more there than in Detroit, Cleveland, and most other midwestern cities outside of Chicago.

Gravatar I'll be honest, most bowl games I've had to watch on TV, but when they're in warm weather it just seems more exciting. I hate watching UM in domed games. Even games in the superdome, if they're NC games, seem kinda lame. Maybe watching the sun and warm weather is escapism for what's usually a cold day wherever I am.

And, watching us beat Alabama in Miami was awesome, I almost got my ass kicked before and after the game :) Had a wonderful sign that drew some responses.

Gravatar Re: Bowls up north.....hey, I say we hijack the Motor City Bowl and make it a big 10 vs sec...because I really do feel for the anecdote mgoblue just shared with us about the USC fans being able to drive across town for their bowl game and us having to go cross country. I have to work at 7 am tomorrow....i cant take that day off....that makes it very hard to travel that far to a bowl game....Detroit, Minny have held super bowls and final fours (2009 at Ford Field) why cant the Cap One Bowl be there every other year.

Gravatar Dudes...the Midwest already has a bowl...the Motor City Bowl...in a domed stadium...and no one takes it seriously, because it throws money at the bottom feeders.

Gravatar "I cheer for Michigan and whoever is playing Ohio State". OSU winning their game does nothing to help Michigan.

AD for LSU was a turd sandwich during the Leticles scenario, which made me waver, but we're in direct competition with OSU for Pryor and other recruits. Fcuk the Schmuckeyes. . . .they played Akron and Youngstown State to get to 11-1.
Go Tigers. . .

Gravatar @ Scalz1,

I like you, but that is such a typical southern response. "Why wouldn't everything just be down here, it's warmer?" Weather isn't everything and for many of us it isn't that important. I actually like the cold, but that isn't the point.

How about making it so that a quarter of our country can make it to an important bowl game without taking a week off of work.

Gravatar Why not a bowl game in New York? The Meadowlands would work and NYC would be a big draw.

Gravatar First of all, GREAT win for the seniors and Lloyd!!!! I would give my left arm to be in Gainesville right now, swimming in a pool of gator tears.

Secondly, this OSU/LSU game couldn't come soon enough. All of this sudden Wolverine/Buckeye love is starting to make me a little sick, and I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. For the record, I want OSU to win, and I'm sure I'll never forgive myself for it.

Gravatar @ Johnny Sideburns,

I am aware of the motor city bowl. I said a good bowl that top Big Ten teams play top talent.

The Big Ten has the power to force this to happen. In fact, if a playoff ever were to happen, I see this as the major side effect. There is no way that the Big Ten should allow away games in a playoff.

Gravatar old fan -

I gotcha, my man. Understandable. We have the beach, the weather and, believe it or not, some hospitality.

Gravatar what? you want OSU to win? That makes me throw up. You just said the lovefest is making you sick. Confusion.

Gravatar Did anyone see the RR interview during the game, by the way....i know it was hours ago, but they asked him about the start we had on O....and he said something about it shows you can run the spread a lot of different ways.....this game on offense will prove to be an amazing show of transistion from our old school to new school.....RR had to have loved what he saw from his soon to be charges.

Gravatar If there's a playoff system, there will be neutral sites (hopefully more neutral than the current "neutral"), or home games for the higher ranked teams. I doubt that'll happen, b/c the playoff system will likely come in conjunction with bowls. As in the quarterfinals would be like the Capital One Bowl and stuff like that. However, that'll be tough b/c I'm not gonna fly to Orlando to watch Mich in a quarterfinal game when I can go to LA to watch them in the semis, etc. Tickets will go unsold, money will be lost, and you know what happens then...

Gravatar Attention SEC fans, and I mean this with all the deepest sincerity I can muster: suck my balls.

Brian, I can't put it any better. As I read this blog religiously, I can honestly say that quote is the single best piece of journalism I've seen on it.(Or maybe I'm still tingling from the game)

Gravatar Mark Richt = Bill Engvall;
"You can't 'gel' a comb-over."

Gravatar @sam: I agree...I said it earlier today...OSU plays Satan's minons...I root for the devil's progeny. No ifs ands or buts...I don't think you can spend 4 years in A2 and root for OSU in ANY scenario. PERIOD.

Gravatar Ok, I am done with the "Ice Bowl" or whatever. It should be the Motor City bowl and they should have better teams.

Anyone have a direct quote from Urban whining about the refs and how he knew everything that we were going to do. That guy continues to look foolish in the presence of Carr.

Gravatar It's nice to see Colt exposed. I watched a lot of that Hawaii-SJSU game. They sucked and so did Colt.

Gravatar Not only can you not spend 4 years in AA and root for OSU, but you certainly can't spend an additional 4 years in OHIO and root for OSU. It just makes it worse actually.

Gravatar Despite all the love we are getting from our buckeye friends.....um, just say no to osu next week.....living behind enemy lines here in Ohio, they already are tough to deal with.....i want them in pain because the ones I know have not stopped chirping period, and most of them were looking forward to Florida beating down UM worse than the 41-14 score from last year....I will be happy for the some of the cool osu posters we get here if they win, but, on the whole, would prefer the peace and quiet an LSU win will provide me on a daily basis up here in NW Ohio.

Gravatar jamie mac, where in Ohio do you live? I was in Toledo. Hated it.

Gravatar no kidding about Urban Cryer...has he ever taken responsibility for a loss? I smell a future Lions coach. I HATE THAT SMARMY BASTARD...I will be reveling in this game for another 3 months, I'm not exaggerating...while the media continues to shoot their load over Tebow...sickening...Henne SCHOOLED TEBOW. End of story.

Gravatar Big Ten was like the visiting team in the following bowls this season (2 hour drive or less for other team):

Motor City: CMU vs PU (Detroit)
Alamo: TAMU vs PSU (San Antonio)
CapOne: FLA vs UM (Orlando)
Rose: SC vs Ill (Pasadena)
NC: LSU vs OSU (Nola)

All these games, Big Ten teams have to travel cross-country while the opposing team has a 2-hour drive or less. What's fair about that?

Gravatar Sam,
I live in Toledo! Born and raised here. Left after high school. Came back two years ago.

Gravatar Sounds like I'm against the tide here, but for me, I root for OSU vs. LSU (or any other SEC team) openly, enthusiastically, and it's not close.

The primary enemy is not OSU. The primary enemy is the SEC. To me, picking the SEC over OSU is like picking the Martians over the Russians.

Gravatar Toronto--true, which makes Michigan's win even more impressive...aside from the early false start, unbelievable composure and discipline. Men on a mission.

Gravatar Chris @dangerous logic,

Great highlight reel. much better than anything i saw on any tv station

Gravatar Man, I am glad the Meyer coming to UM rumors were just that; He's a prick. Insufferable.

@jamie mac

Michigan went up 21-14 and I suddenly had visions of us winning with a magical 41-14 score. I would have giggled for months. (as opposed to weeks, like I will already)

Gravatar I see both sides to this.

The "SEC should just play itself in the bow games" was mentioned on another board. And this after a 10-3 victory over Central Florida by an inept MSU team. It's unbearable.

However:

I remember almost rooting for OSU against Miami, and I now regret it. I didn't realize that game was the base for a platform of consistency. I thought it was a flash in the pan. ( I remember rooting for them until it looked like they might win and then flipping back and forth maniacally because I was so conflicted).

So I am torn, but will end up against OSU just not with the venom that I normally have against them.

Gravatar colin, i think i lost your email...

Gravatar As much as I love the idea of the island culture...the truth is that as much as I'd love to think otherwise, the best islander football players end up playing for USC or Oregon. If Hawai'i wants to make it as a "legimate" college football power, it's going to have to keep ALL of the Hawai'ian/Samoan guys away from the mainland.

Gravatar Can't we just admit that it might just be impossible to get a good enough comparison between 119 teams who only play 12 regular season games to figure out with a good level certainty who the national championship should go to?

Unless we adopt a best of 3 series and assume that you won't shaft anyone else when you pick the top (4, imo) teams, I don't think you can.

I liked the old bowl system better. The writers can name their national champions, but it doesn't have to mean anything. We handed it from them to the avaricious.

Gravatar colintaj@gmail.com

Gravatar go to the big ten network web site. Crable calls out Kirk Herbstreit on national television!

Gravatar Anyone catch the discussion that Tebow was homeschooled.

It all made sense after that: the jorts, the disdain for shirts, the social inability in interviews.

Was this known and I just missed it, or was this a revelation.

Gravatar I don't get the SEC/OSU argument. It's not about the SEC for us. OSU is our direct competitor, we fight for recruits, money, prestige, and many of us clash with them on a daily basis at work, socially (I hope not, ahem), etc. It's a bigger deal at least up here. Maybe the southerners on this board feel differently, but I doubt it. OSU has and always will be our biggest rival, THE biggest rivaly, so how can you root for them?

I get it in professional sports, but I don't bleed those colors like I bleed Maize and Blue.

Gravatar Couple Things:

#1) Chad Henne called the run on the last 3rd down. The play from the booth was a pass, but Henne audibled to a run. If you watch the replay you can see Lloyd Carr ask an assistant "Why did he run it?" Then the assistant was explaining what Henne saw that caused him to call the draw. Also, right after 2nd down, they showed Lloyd Carr and if you watch his lips, he says "now we'll pass it".

#2) Why did it take 4 quarters to figure out that Tebow cannot throw it outside the hashes?? The only success he had was throwing slants and crossing routes.

#3) This being the case, why in the hell did we have linebackers on Harvin and not a CB? Florida was constantly lining TE's up wide and Harvin in the slot??

All in all though, this was one of the best games I've ever seen as a Michigan fan. I can finally wear my gear with pride again.

Gravatar I preferred the old bowl system as well -- at least it had kind of an old world charm that made no pretense to being anything other than what it was. It was wholly irrational, but admittedly so.

The current system is wholly irrational but pretends to be rational.

Bad science is, in some ways, worse than no science.

Gravatar Was anyone watching the locker room interviews on channel 4 news? Random naked guy in background..well not random, but you could definitely see side-crank and full rear. Awesome editing.

Gravatar I knew Tebow was homeschooled. Does explain quite a bit. However, the whole orphanage in the Philippines thing was actually pretty nice. Have to respect that, unless they're doing it as missionaries, in which case it kinda bothers me.

Gravatar colin, sent....

Gravatar Unreal. Colt Brennan for Heisman? WTF?????

Gravatar @ Lee,

Thanks for the explanation of the 3rd run. I was a bit miffed at that point and I saw flashbacks of many 3 to 6 point leads evaporating. It makes me much happier that this was an audible. Makes it even better for me.

Gravatar maybe Hawaii should have played Illinois. At least one of them wouldn't have been embarrassed

Gravatar "BTW, that sure looked like I was watching an NFL game today, gotta love that!!!!!"

You mean the players were uninterested, the offense was impossible for all but the most specialized of quarterbacks to run, they never ran the football, they never tried to run the football, the rules were absurdly slanted to help the offenses, they kicked a lot of field goals, defenders led with the helmet against defenseless wide receivers in the air, holding was never called, players scoring touchdowns participated in disgsuting spectacles of self-promotion, and they benched their starters in the second half because it was a "meaningless game"?

No, I didn't see anything that looked like an NFL game in Orlando.

Go Blue!

Gravatar Tebow is a complete feg FAG!

Gravatar I was unhappy with the running play on that third down, but I actually think it was the right call. Had Florida been able to hold onto one timeout, we would have had to prepare for a run and a pass as long as that timeout was still in the pocket. Without the timeout, we only needed to defend the pass, and we knew it. In retrospect, I am fine with this call (in retrospect, I also know it worked out).

Did anyone watch Meyer's presser? What an idiot. He actually claimed that the game would've been totally different had their two TDs not been called back as a result of penalties. Apparently, he thinks that, after they scored those scores, they would've lined up and scored the TDs that they got immediately after as well. The penalties, both times, did not eliminate points. They only very slightly delayed them.

Gravatar Oh man that Crable clip was priceless...is there anyone in the world that hates Herbie more than me now...I think not.

Gravatar I hope Gray doesn't know what he's talking about:
"We think Terrelle Pryor is already committed to Ohio State too."

Gravatar here's the link

http://notredame.rivals.com/cont....asp? CID=756883

Gravatar Hou Blue,

Was just thinking the same thing.

'08 is already doing a fairly good job of bringing some normalcy back after the wackiness of '07. Hawaii and Illinois clearly suck, Michigan regains a semblance of its rightful place in the world, etc.

Gravatar Gray who?

Gravatar Meyer may be a great coach, but he's a buffoon. It's somewhat fair for us to say we could've (should've, would've) had 2 more TDs b/c of those fumbles. But I wouldn't sit here and say that amazing Arrington catch (which one you ask? the one where he dove and was down at the 1) should've been an ADDITIONAL touchdown. Just made me crap my pants a little more as we almost choked at the end of that drive.

Gravatar "I've played in a perfect season and in Super Bowls," Mandich says. "But I'm proudest of playing for the maize and blue."

Things like this are why we are Michigan, and why CFB will always have more heart and soul than the NFL no matter how much tradition they try to buy with their billions.

Gravatar "... on that third down, but I actually think it was the right call. Had Florida been able to hold onto one timeout, we would have had to prepare for a run and a pass as long as that timeout was still in the pocket. Without the timeout, we only needed to defend the pass, and we knew it. In retrospect, I am fine with this call "

cosign....brian has written about this in the past. either go for the 1st down/TD, or try to burn the TOs and the clock. run, run, pass is picking both but achieving neither. w/o tebows ability to run, he's just an OK-good pocket QB.

Gravatar Jonas Gray obviously has a thing against michigan for not recruiting him heavily in the beginning. We were very late with an offer and he has held it against us. He knows nothing.

Gravatar @dangdangdang...preaching to the choir. Did anyone ask Cryer how he would have taken the loss if we hadn't coughed up the ball inside the 5 twice?...Methinks penalties didn't kill this team. this was a good old fashioned ASSWHUPPIN'. Sorry, but your golden boy got schooled by Henne. SCHOOLED. Check the stats and the film Meyer. You're lucky it was even close you smarmy bastard. GO BLUE!!!!!

Gravatar If all the recruits really think TP is going to OSU, and he did in fact wear a Michigan shirt the other day, it screams "Look at me!" Sort of like the day he called Rivals and basically broke the RR hire. I don't want those kinds of guys at my alma mater. He can go there, we'll just drub him for his 3 yrs there before he leaves early for the NFL.

Gravatar Topher:

Couldn't agree more about the current state of the NFL. I'll add that I also hate the 2-minute warning.

Gravatar \Have to respect that, unless they're doing it as missionaries, in which case it kinda bothers me.//

They were, but what's the big deal?

It doesn't bother me that Tebow's a Christian...nor does it bother me that the Florida players invited UM to a prayer at midfield beofre the game began. It's not as though he's going to walk into a pizza parlor with a dynamite vest on if Michigan's ballplayers decide not to participate in a group prayer.

My only concern about Christian missionaries in the PI is...this is where the dudes nail themselves to crosses over Easter weekend...hard to get more hardcore Christian than that (it's a tourist attraction, in fact)...couldn't your efforts have been better-placed elsewhere?

Gravatar It is far more reasonable for us to say we should've had two more TDs. If Hart takes care of the ball, we almost certainly do. But Florida turned around and scored immediately after those two penalties. They never lost any points that they otherwise would've had.

Gravatar dangdangdang,

Just a quibble (your overall point is certainly right on), but Hart's 2 fumbles probably ony cost us 1 score: The field position tilt after the first one resulted in a touchdown for us a drive or two (can't rememeber) afterwards.

Gravatar I hate to get into politics and religion on a sports board, but I feel the need to point out that Christian missionaries in Polynesia have a spotty record at best.

Gravatar I hope next year we tackle like UGA. They're downright mean.

Gravatar Meyer sounds like a child. We use new offensive sets for 500 yards and he says "I knew they would do that".

or it's the officials fault.

Let's hope that RR is more like Carr in the interviews. They were classic.

Gravatar Yes, Thom, it is "a shame for the country" that this third-rate offense that racked up shitloads of points against inferior opponents all year was unable to do so against a real team.

Gravatar Not only did we drub Florida today, but used the spread (Mallett, don't go!). We used our playmakers (tons of end-arounds to get the ball to Manningham), and great downfield passing. All-in-all, we told every recruit out there to come here, and those who do will be champions.

Gravatar \they never ran the football, they never tried to run the football//

Hey, Topher...have the "grace" to concede that Mike Hart's 129 rushing yards seems to contradict that line of thought.

Gravatar TAEG,

Good point. You can't put those plays in a vacuum. In essence, we still got our touchdown as a result of driving the ball that deeply into the red zone on one of the two drives.

Gravatar I think it's amazing that going to commercial on an earlier game (after we had beat Florida) the highlights were STILL Florida touchdowns...today's coverage makes me want to go on a perosnal mission to rub this win in the faces of each and every Tebow-loving media whore....GO BLUE. Each and every year that separates me from my graduation ceremony (in the rain) in Michigan stadium I become a bigger fan. WE SCHOOLED THE SEC TODAY LADIES AND GENTLEMEN. REVEL IN THAT UNTIL NEXT FALL.

Gravatar Sorry, that was at Thom Brenaman, for those not watching the UGA-Hawaii game.

[Yes, I am talking to the TV.]

Gravatar El Guapo,

A quibble with your quibble,

I think that the field position tilt is more relevant in a game when they occasionally stop us. When we have 500 + yards, and are driving into the red zone from anywhere on the field, the tilt is not as important as it normally is to us. I think it cost us two scores.

As Carr said, we could only stop ourselves today.

Gravatar fwiw, Martin said a primary characteristic he looked at during the search was post-game comments after loses. how did he handle it? where did he place blame? Carr was unique in this way, so i'm sure RR will be different, but i don't think we'll see anything like urban either.

Gravatar well spoken Sam. Agreed.

Gravatar Gray says Pryor is going to OSU.

http://footballrecruiting.rivals....asp? CID=756883

Gravatar \Christian missionaries in Polynesia have a spotty record at best.//

As someone who married into an ethnic Filipino family, I object to your classification of the PI as "Polynesian". Culturally speaking, it's a whole 'nother ballgame.

Gravatar Old fan,

I would quibble with your quibble of my quibble, but: (a) you're probably right, and (b) I think that cubing a quibble is technically illegal in the state in which I live.

Gravatar And I will reiterate what I said all through 11-12/07 on this site--I am very, very, very, very, glad that Urban Cryer is not coming to Ann Arbor--and you should be too.

Gravatar Meyers whining is ridiculous. He just lost when his team he was a 10 point favorite...at home (sorta)...and should have been waxed for an add'l 14.

Boo, hoo, HOO, Urban. You look like just another SEC boob.

Gravatar Thom Brenaman is a fricking whiner. I'm sick of this game.

Gravatar The MLive article was awesome.

Johnny S.:

I think Topher's comments were a shot at the current state of NFL play, not at Michigan.

The latest whacked out "insider rumor" is that Miles helped gameplan for FL...I'd like some of what the guy originating is smoking!

Gravatar While the coaching search appeared to not be doing well, it was easy to forgive Meyer for his antics and poor school-representation a year ago.

Now that the coaching issue is resolved and we're all reminded of what a dink Meyer is, I'm glad that mafia never picked up too much momentum.

Gravatar No more quibbles. We can agree that we could have/ should have won by 13 to 20 points.

Either way, some points were left on the field and we dominated more than the score showed.

Gravatar Game torrent is up at tenyardtorrents.com. Enjoy.

Gravatar Do you think that the NCAA factors in issues like... "you don't have any announcers that do national college games on a regular basis" when they bid for the coverage of the bowl games.

Brenaman is brutal.

Gravatar You do not share Breneman's moral outrage at the vile abomination against humanity that was that slightly-longer-than-usual review?

By his tone, I thought someone had proposed that he eat his own child.

Gravatar @dang-I never forgave him. I did, do, and always will think Urban is a total bastard. And, like any of the Florida football personell who are part of programs who excel in personal fouls and felonies, he will always hide behind excuses and "bad officiating", etc. It's never, say, that his beloved Heisman boy got ABSOLUTELY SCHOOLED by Henne. F-U Meyer, go cry in that armpit city Gainesville for a year. The Wolverines owned your team. Period, end of story. The officials had little to to with that COLD HARD REALITY.

Gravatar I thought for sure that Hawaii would at least break a couple plays to keep it interesting. I mean, some of those receivers are awfully quick, but nothing all night. I think I might have to go to bed.

Gravatar I honestly stopped watching. He is too bad.

Does Keith Jackson have a son. Or is there a computer program that can dub him in over all other announcers.

WOW. Now that is an ESPN classic bit that I would go for. Keith Jackson dubbed in over all of your favorite games.

Gravatar A great way to end an era. Bring it on. In Rod we trust.

Gravatar Wait.

Are these guys doing the NC Game?

Gravatar \Keith Jackson dubbed in over all of your favorite games.//

If you can figure out a way to do that for NHL games, I'm totally up for it.

Gravatar Totally agree with you Guap.

Gravatar is the urban meyer post game presser anywhere to be found?

Gravatar Crap. I have to stomach these fools for the MNC? I'd rather watch Rambo.

Gravatar @ Johnny,

Keith Jackson would have been a great hockey announcer. Much like an American Don Cherry, if you can imagine this ever existing.

Gravatar Brandon Koutu is a Vulcan. True story.

Gravatar Here is a stat for all of the ant-SEC crowd

During the "largest cocktail party" aka the Georgia Florida game, they have had 3 deaths in the past 3 years. I am all for consumption of alcohol during/ before games, but um.....

way to keep perspective.

Gravatar @Johnny, I agree.

I wanna see Coutu vs. Zoltan in a ro-sham-bo contest. The Earth would probably implode.

Gravatar Wow, Spoon after TNP? Not too shabby Fox.

And thanks to Steve.

Gravatar old fan,

people die every year at Michigan games thanks to the sheer numbers of having 110,000 people there game after game. someone finds out that they've got something wrong with them they didn't know about.

Gravatar ISLANDER PRIDE, BRA!

Gravatar http://www.gatorsports.com/

meyer presser...He lauds Randy Moss...after his last press conference, are you f'ing kidding me...wow, 2 of the biggest pricks ever in pressers in the space of 1 week. With every minute that passes, I think I will revel in this victory one more month...

Gravatar Well, kids. I'm bored silly. I've seen the infamous Tim tebow and upstart Colt Brennan and frankly I'm not all that impressed. (I'm much more impressed with Gronke.) That said, night all.

Gravatar \He lauds Randy Moss//

Hav you watched the Patriots at all this year? Just curious...they've been pretty good, and Moss has been a significant reason why.

Still, if the UM AD decides to release a DVD of today's game, I'm damn straight buying it.

Gravatar But Tebow can still part the Red Sea...right??!! Right Mark May????!! Right Herbstreit??!! Right Corso??!! Right Urban Cryer??!! Wow, I love being able to stuff a big giant helping of raw crow down the throat of all of these bastards' throats....GO BLUE, gator bait my ass!!! Freep headline tomorrow: Henne makes Tebow his bitch!

Gravatar Johnny--agreed, Moss has rocked the proverbial casbah this year skill-wise. My comment was aimed at the prick factor, of which he has also scored off the charts...

Gravatar Wow...I love how Meyer calls out his coaches and basically says one or more will be fired

Gravatar "Couldn't agree more about the current state of the NFL. I'll add that I also hate the 2-minute warning."

I don't enjoy the NFL much cept the Pats and the Packers (lived in Boston, live in Packer country), and as a coach I have to at least be aware of it to coach against its tendencies and explain to parents why we don't have the 30 extra hours a week it would take to run Peyton Manning's offense.

That being said, I understand many people's affinity for the League, and in January I can force myself to enjoy it. For me it's like methadone (the drug without the high) or non-alcoholic beer - it vaguely reminds me of something I love but is clearly not the real deal.

But I don't begrudge anyone's NFL affinity, unless they start dissing on college ball ("these are mickey-mouse schemes, why do they run the QB, why don't they have a playoff like the pros, these Heisman winners are frauds," blah blah.) At that point I simply put out something like my previous post and consider my say said.

Gravatar \My comment was aimed at the prick factor, of which he has also scored off the charts...//

From the media's POV, absolutely...but no one on the Pats has accused Moss of being anything other than an exemplary teammate. Tom Brady Himself claims that Moss is one of the smartest football players he's ever known, and the truth is Moss took a $4 million pay cut to play for the Pats this year...so he may be gloriously unrefined as far as the press is concerned, but he is without question one of the best-regarded Patriots on their team this year.

Gravatar Damn...Hawai'i ran into the Perfect Storm (Perfect Tsunami?) tonight. A talented team with a recent history of embarrassment (2006 Sugar Bowl) and the notion that they've got something to prove (they are PISSED that LSU jumped them to play for the MNC).

So far the BCS Committee has proven that they can't get shit done...the Rose Bowl was an asswhippin', this game will be, too.

Gravatar @ Colin,

The 3 dead the past 3 years were directly attributed to excess drinking. There was an expose on the news here. I honeslty don't know how this tacks up with other schools but they made a big deal about it. Florida and Georgia hired special "helpers" (not cops) to help identify people that were in trouble and help them not die. I thought I would pass this fact along since we were bashing the SEC.

Anyway, my liver is the size of a thimble after my poor treatment of my body. However I have managed not to kill myself. So this is only slightly a hypocritical thing to point out.

Gravatar Ha. It seems some fans are as delusional as Meyer. Read the "Questionable Calls" section.

Gravatar That didn't work. http://www2.tbo.com/content/2008...ustrated-follo/

Gravatar Why in Christ's name am I still awake at 1 o'clock when I need ot go to work early tomorrow morning?

Oh, yeah...one more beer left.

Gravatar Hello friends,

It is indeed a pleasure to enjoy the national media coverage of the block M dominance of UF, St. Urban and his son Timmy. Let's be clear, if Mike Hart doesn't lose 2 balls deep in the red zone it's 20...not 6; St. Urban's ridiculous posturing that it might have made a difference were his team not penalized is out and out crazy. It's been said before that those penalties only delayed the points and this is accurate.

Michigan remains the program against which all others are judged...our SEC record validates this dominance both historically and practically. You don't wake up the sleeping giant and you don't tug on Superman's cape...nice game Tim Tebow...enjoy that Heisman.

Best wishes everyone.

"Those who stay will be champions" - Bo Schembechler

(Those who stayed, after the Horror, after Oregon, after tOSU...are Champions)

Congratulations to all the regular posters as well.

Gravatar Very sweet to dominate the "Greatness and Speed" of the SEC. Great to see Lloyd go out a winner. Great to dominate a team so much that even losing the turnover battle 4-0, we still win. Could have won by 17+.
Best part...looking forward to the future and new program, instead of asking why the hell we didnt look this prepared and well coached against Appy State and Oregon. In the past, this would have been the time to rationalize with what ifs as we would rehabilitate the staff after an impressive win. This year, however, we can simply enjoy the win, and look forward to a new era, hopefully one of consistent greatness.

Gravatar awesome picture from mgoblue : http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=...pic=6shit03& s=1

Gravatar Lloyd almost always gave credit to the opponent first when we lost. I felt like Meyer gave us backhanded compliments. Like "we couldn't execute, we sucked, we're not mature, but gosh give Michigan the credit!" Fuck off man. I officially hate Florida now.

Gravatar kgh10 - great pic! That's my new facebook image.

Gravatar Seriously, Mallett had to be watching today's game and be thinking "HEY!!! I can DO THIS!!!...why line ME up under center when I can make plays ALL DAY LONG from that formation".

I don't care for Wisconsin, but I wish they one today. They're usually good for a win over the SEC.

Gravatar Still not sure how he caught this

http://forums.detnews.com/pix/sp...UMvFLA- 1960.jpg

Gravatar hou blue - I love that picture. it looks like Meyer is taking it up the poopshoot from that dude behind him. Wonderful!

Gravatar I missed that at first. Pretty funny.

Gravatar Yup, Meyer loses like a girl. Respect, gone.

Dude, Hart fumbled twice in the red zone(?!). And you STILL LOST. Eh, who cares about you anyway, GO BLUE. FOREVER.

Gravatar This wasn't all that unexpected for me. I knew that if everyone was healthy that Michigan could score on/with anyone. Defense is where the surprise lay for me...though they gave up thirty five points, it was a damned good defensive effort, and it was soooo good to see them put the pads to Tebow relentlessly.

Of course "Urban The Whiner" tried so hard to spin it as if Michigan didn't too much win it, but rather that Florida mostly lost it.

Gravatar Does anybody know if Bass is going to be back next season? I saw him in the background today on the sidelines. What the hell happened to his knee surgeries and whatnot?

Gravatar what a great way to be completely 100% totally wrong about how the game would go... Henne outplayed Tebow thoroughly IMO, and at least in this game, Crable was proved right. Harvin was the difference maker for Fla, not Tebow. Not gonna bother watching Urban's presser, but blaming penalties is pathetic...key to game is performance of the lines, offense and defense; Henne always had time to throw, and TT ended up with chunks of turf in his helmet...Lloyd will be appreciated more after he's gone than he ever was while here...

and Diogenes, if you're really, seriously trying to apply postmodern literary criticism to the online comments of a bunch of diehard football fans venting their passions in all the myriad ways their personalities dictate, you're in the wrong place. You'll be far happier on a blog where the visitors care more about Chomsky and Foucault and Derrida than the spread option, blocking assignments on field goals, and Kirk Herbstreit.

Gravatar Mike,

Bass has been working out and may be ready for spring practice

Gravatar Chomsky? Who reads Chomsky anymore?

Gravatar It would be foolish of us to think that Antonio Bass, if he returns, will be anything like the great athlete he was prior to his awful injuries. If he is able to make it back on to the field, I'll be extremely happy for him personally, for coming back from the injuries and for all the hard work it will have entailed.

Any actual on-field production from him would just be gravy.

Gravatar It doesn't benefit us directly, but Omar Hunter has decommitted from Notre Dame and is now considering only Florida, USC, and Auburn.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/re...? playerId=50597

Wow.

Gravatar Big Ten versus SEC over the past 4 years, 6 and 4 in bowl games.

9 and 7 overall over the past 4 years.

And they have a two loss team in the national championship game. If I am USC, I am pissed.

Where is the bias coming from? I am covinced that CBS is behind most of it.

Gravatar REASON #1 WHY ADRIAN ARRINGTON SHOULD STAY NEXT YEAR:

If he leaves, who's our offensive captain next year? Kevin Grady? Alex Mitchell? Mark Ortmann? LaTerryal Savoy? I'm not one for overstating hocus-pocus "leadership", but Arrington has a chance to provide a real impact to this program by staying one more year, being the "go-to" receiver, and providing an example to the rest of the team to learn from.

He's already put his off-field issues from earlier in his career behind him, and re-written his legacy, but coming back for one more year as the unquestioned offensive leader would be the proverbial "cherry on top" to seal his M legacy.

Come back, AA - your work here isn't quite finished yet!

Gravatar I must hear the postgame presser and Carr talking about his disappointment with AA in his underclassmen days.

Gravatar I'm the last man standing! WOOHOOOOOO!!!!

I'm delirious.

Gravatar still here

Gravatar haha. it didn't say any other visitors were online at the moment.

Gravatar At work hungover. I have a ten foot wide, smile, though. Haven't seen any UF fans yet. They're avoiding my office like the plague.

Gravatar The coaches in this wonderful game presented two contrasting perspectives:

1. Lloyd is a teacher, an educator who believes athletes go to college to receive an education, first and foremost, and secondly to participate in a sport. His post-game locker room comments beseeching his student-athletes to graduate clearly illustrate where he is coming from.

2. Urban Meyer, in his post-game comments, referred to his players as "personnel." This spoke volumes to me and indicated his attitude toward his team was absolutely wrong.

Meyer is corporate and Lloyd is not. Lloyd is a man of letters and the academy. He believes an education is key to a productive life. What does Urban Meyer believe?

Gravatar Am I a jerk because I'm online this early, already looking at gator blogs? Prolly not. Its funny. "We sucked! Bad play caller! Bad ACC officials!!!" Hehe. They sound like us.

Gravatar Interesting comments from RR in the Detroit News (Angelique Chengelis) today about the 3-3-5.

Rodriguez has run the 3-3-5 at West Virginia, but when I asked him Tuesday if that's what he intends to install at Michigan, he quickly replied: "That's yet to be determined."

Is it telling Rodriguez wasn't giving it a thumbs-up before the game?

My guess is, yes.

I bet this is because RR is trying to recruit a high-end defensive coordinator like Tenuta...but then again, if you saw GT against Fresno St., Tenuta may not be the cure-all.

Gravatar Suck it SEC SPEEEED~~!

And also, congrats to Hawai'i for that fantastic showing on the national stage.

Gravatar Percy Harvin & SEC Fans...

Hi! Thanks for a great bowl game. I just wanted to check in to see if you thought we were fast enough?

-Morgan Trent

Gravatar Guy's I'm so excited about this game I'm coming out,I'm Gay..there I said it..man that feels good to finally have that of my shoulders.Rainbow love everybody!

Gravatar WTF?

Gravatar OOOOKAY.....I guess Jamies gay.

Gravatar Thanks for the wonderful evening last night colin.

Gravatar When the game started I hate both teams however as hard as it was I had to cheer for UM to get the win for a few reasons. One being sending Carr and the Seniors out with at least one win in a big game 1 - 7 (OSU/Bowl). Second I HATE the SEC Teams/Fans even more especially the Florida team!

This was one of the BEST games I've seen Michigan play. They never gave up after Hart blowing it 2 times at the endzone. This game should not of been as close as it was however Manningham and Mathews made some GREAT catches.

Congrats to you Blue!

Go Big Ten

PanamaBuck

Gravatar Christ, I'm tired and hung over out of my mind this morning. Bummed about Hawai'i, ecstatic over Michigan's performance in the Bowl Formerly Known as the Citrus...did that really happen?

Gravatar It's a great day to be a Wolverine!

Gravatar I hate to say it, but Pryor to OSU makes too much sense. The guy is a 5-star basketball prospect, and he can start right away and not worry about the Mallett situation...

Gravatar Johnny, it happened, and it was glorious.
At a few points, I was actually scared for my personal safety.

Gravatar I wouldn't get too worked up about Pryor, one way or the other. Yeah, he's a basketball prospect but he said in an interview 2 weeks ago that b-ball wasn't that important to him and he knows his ticket to the pros will be football, and thats his focus. Besides, he's not even gonna visit AA until late Jan. and said his decision won't be public until signing day.

Gravatar See ya later, aligator.

And lick my maize and blue taint.

Nice to see at least one journalist that "gets it" I am so pissed that ESPN said that we did not contain Tebow. Why does ESPN hate Michigan so? It was such a great game, they played like the winners that they are (and could have been all year if not for the injuries) I am not sad about the season, it was what it was (newly banned phrase that that is) I still say that their comeback after the first two losses of the season showed incredible character and courage on the part of this team. Losing the last two was more about the injuries. Going to Florida and making sandwich meat out of the Gators, was simply a glorious end! GO BLUE!!!!

Gravatar @ Walter Camp, Pryor would not be able to start right away at OSU. Tressel is pretty faithful to his verterns, they have a decent QB, he would likely get some playing time, but he would not be a shoe in for the starting position without seeing him take one snap at the college level. I hope Mallett sticks it out here. Pryor can come or not. I really hope Adrian stays, he was hot last night!

Gravatar "...man Florida's DB's remind me of my highlight film when we played our little brother in 2003"

-Braylon Edwards

Gravatar AA made himself millions yesterday. I'm pretty sure he's gone.

Gravatar AA's one armed catch "around" the defender!! Are you kidding me. The one he held on his behind for two yards was decent as well. Sweet. AA please come back.

Gravatar I think the heisman trophy should go to Michigan's D line!

GREAT GAME GUYS!!!

Gravatar Hail to the Victors valiant!

What a game! Wife had to leave the house i was yelling so loud.

lawyers suck.

Gravatar Who starts at receiver if MM and AA leave? Matthews, Hemmingway, ????

I don't think either MM or AA would be a first round pick at this point. It would be better for their "stock" if they stayed. They will be tearing up the field in the spread next season.

Gravatar Imposter at 8:58 and 9:08...good to know, though, that I have fans.

The game did make me all giddy inside. Good to see these guys and coaches go out on a winning note.

When its all said and done, yesterday will be looked at as the peaceful, yet emphatic transformation from old school to new school UM football....we saw glimpses all day what the Spread can do for Michigan instead of the other way around.

Gravatar From CBS sportsline open thread:

If not for UFs two missed field goals, touch down called back, turnover on the opening kickoff of the 2nd half....

Wow.

Gravatar I wanted to turn the volume down on my T.V. The obvious Tebow nut-swinging was making me sick!

Gravatar View & Enjoy:

Gravatar When I saw Henne throw a TD strike ON THE RUN that's when I knew he was in some kind of zone we haven't seen in a long time, if ever.
What a great win. so happy for the guys and staff.
I really think the positive energy this win produced is going to get RR off to a fast start. The kids are all going to hit their new assigments with gusto.
Might've also convinced RR to keep 1 or 2 more guys (WR coach, anyone???) and figure out a way to use that ManBearFreak tight end in his spread option scheme.

Gravatar Has anyone read Scout, that has has a membership? It says something about MM coming back.

Gravatar Mike Hart on ESPN First Take.

Gravatar Re: sportsline:

And if not for two Hart goal-line fumbled, and a Henne goal-line pick....

Gravatar Does anyone else think that Mathews, next year, should be able to essentially replicate what we've gotten from Arrington this year?

Gravatar I've been watching highlights and reading recaps all morning. I can't stop. Makes me realize how long its been since we've seen a really amazing game like this.

And here I was, 24 hours ago thinking that this season was such a huge disappointment.

Missed MNC's, Big Ten titles, horrors and beatdowns aside, I'm pretty f+++ing proud today.

Gravatar chitown,
I am really not concerned about us replacing our WRs.....we will always have guys who are nfl-caliber at that spot....just look at the lineage....Matthews has been a possession guy thus far, but I like his game and am confident he can step us his role as asked.....the thing w/ Arrington, is he makes so many tough catches and has great instincts and body conrol near the sidelines....but I am sure that somewhere in our stable 1 or 2 new big plays guys will emerge....they always do, and I like the corps of Matthews, Heningway, Clemons, Stonum, along with Butler, to be more than effective next year in the passing game....we'll be spreading the field with them and some of them will always be drawing a mismatch, so that will help too....if either MM or AA come back, or even just one, then, obviously, look out.

Gravatar From the MLive article (emphasis mine):
"Locker room, postgame.

Carr walks into a wild celebration in the locker room, steps on a chair and hears goofy requests from his delirious players.

"Lloyd, take off your coat! Lloyd, get naked!" the Wolverines scream.

After choosing not to disrobe, Carr reminds his players to cherish Mandich's words from the previous night, congratulates them for defining their team with a big win, thanks his coaching staff and expresses his love.

"Gentlemen," he says in closing, "you have given me something to remember for the rest of my life.""

I remember when RichRod fired all the assistants, there was much fretting on this board about whether RichRod understood the traditions of U-M, and would work to uphold them. Somebody commented about being glad that RichRod will be doing away with the "Lloyd get naked!" locker room tradition after a victory...and I laughed my ass off, thinking it was a joke.

Hmmm...

Gravatar been watching umich football for about 20 years, and besides the 97 Rose Bowl (which I attended), this is the only other game where i was literally reduced to tears. however, the 97 game was different- i fully expected to win that game with a team that was clearly better than the opponent. yesterday, like most everyone else, i had very little faith. seeing us come out there with that much energy, pride, and passion (and a gameplan that showed we are capable of making adjustments and actually playing to our strengths), and winning an impossible game against the worst possible opponent, sending out this group of seniors and our coach with a final victory... just amazing. GO BLUE!!!!

Gravatar Do you guys realize that every team undergoing a coaching change lost their bowl game this year....but Michigan.

Three factors: 1, Ours was the only situation where the coach either did not bolt for a new job or was fired. Lloyd retired. As a result, the team was not left racked with doubt or uncertainty like the others 2, We did not have an intermim head coach. Lloyd was there. All the others had temporary leaders. 3, our assistants, while looking for other jobs, did not have the same 'oh my God what am I going to do' stress that the others had in similar positions as their pay was guaranteed another year. Sure, at times our assistants might have spent some time dusting off the resume and talking to other schools, but they weren't up all night wondering where their next pay check was going to be.

Just thought that was interesting.

Gravatar The last time I felt this giddy the day after a victory was ND 2006. I'm checking box scores and reading recaps and refreshing this blog every half hour and I've been giving everyone at work my armchair analysis on yesterday's win.

Gravatar It was January 1, 2008

That they came to bury Michigan
All dressed in maize and blue
The words were said
The prayers were read and everybody cried
But when they closed the coffin there was someone else inside!

Ohhh they came to bury Michigan
But Michigan wasn't dead
And when the game was over
It was someone else instead!

Eleven Michigan Wolverines
Put on the gloves that day,
And as the band struck up "The Victors"
They laid Urban Meyer away.

With apologies to Bob Ufer.

Gravatar @Toronto Blue

Thanks so much for the highlight reel. Incredible to watch those great plays again! GO BLUE!

Gravatar Brabbs,
It never ceases to amaze me just how moved emotionally I get either way with Michigan football. Yesterday, I just wanted the team to play well, be there in the end, cover the spread.....by the fourth quarter, i felt we were playing in something much more important than a mere capital one bowl....I dont think i was as pumped up for any TD we scored this year as I was with the Arrington grab to retake the lead....and I too shed a tear afterwards.....look, I am bipolar with this. In the same breath I can defend and slam Lloyd. It was so cool for the kids to carry him off on their shoulders like that, how could you not be emotional. Lloyd has been with us since 1980, he deserved that ride, and I did not realize how much I wanted him to have that ride until i saw it with my own eyes.....but, there's more. I am soooooo happy for all us fans. This has been a tough year. To end it on this note, against a fellow elite program, was beyond special. We got a chance to bask in this team's glory for the first time all year.....It had been a long time for us and is was awesome to not just feel good about our team, but have a result as well to feel good about.

Gravatar Brian, is it possible to do Profiles in Heroism on defensive coordinators? It would apppear from RR's comments that he may be conducting a broader search for one than was originally thought...would be good to see who else out there is worth keeping an eye on...

Gravatar ChicaGoBlue,
Also, I have already filled out my 2008 desktop calendar with the 2008 schedule!!!!

Like i said above, we finally get a chance to not only feel good about our team, but have a pretty big time result to hang our hat on.....its been nothing but Michigan mudslinging--and much of it deserved--for a while now, and while happy for Lloyd and the program I am ecstatic for all my fellow fans. You are not the only one gobbling up all the post mortem of the game. We all are, and its about time!!

Plus all the glimpes of a passing spread offense that we saw yesterday.....wow.....we are in for one ride with this new offense...if we throw everything out there like yesterday, seriously, only one team on our slate can possibly match up.

Gravatar Is that team Utah? Please tell me its not Utah.

Gravatar @jamie mac

You bring up a point discussed when RR was hired; the idea of whether or not UM was an "elite" program anymore and if RR could bring us back there. In that discussion, there was noone denying that Fla. was an elite program. Where does that discussion go from here?

Gravatar ESPN sure shows some nice clips of Florida TDs. Who did Florida beat again?

Gravatar Tebow and Harvin got their stats, wonderful, but nobody else got ANY. We dominated them, although still gave up enough plays for them to score so many points. Doesn't matter, we rocked Tebow. If anyone has a high-res pic of Tebow with the turf monster in his helmet I'd love it, I want to make a t-shirt maybe.

Gravatar @samsoccer

I'm gonna keep looking. I want that shirt.

Gravatar Did I mention how many App State shirts I saw yesterday ?

Gravatar They can show all the FL highlights they want, and to tell the truth, Michigan set the blueprint on how to beat FL so every SEC coach is going to watch this football game as well as any other Fl opponent

Gravatar mgobleu - Florida still needs to be considered elite. That team was all Freshmen and Sophs. There's going to be badass.

Also, I didn't see much Florida this year, but after yesterday, part of me thinks that Tebow should endorse his Heisman over to Percy Harvin. Tebow didn't do much, Harvin is a friggin' beast.

Gravatar does anyone know what the spread of the game was? i cant find anything on it...

Gravatar @dang Apparently ESPN can't get past the first stage, denial ("Florida DID beat Michigan, The Tebow lovefest WILL continue") Absolutely no props, I haven't been so disappointed with post-game coverage in my entire life as I have been with our Capital One Bowl. You're better served with YouTube than ESPN. Sad.

Gravatar It was a great day for Michigan, but with regards to our "elite" status and the future, I caution against small sample size.

Yes, it's fantastic to beat Florida. It is only one game. And just as losing to App. State did not immediately cause Michigan to go 3-9 and reach ND levels of despair, beating UF probably won't immediately catapult UM to 12-0 and the National Title next year.

The bowl was a great win, a nice way to end the seniors career, and a jolt to begin the RR era today. But let's not start feeling entitled to a national title immediately and place Alabama-like levels of delusional expectations on the new coach. There is still a lot of work to do.

Gravatar App St.

I believe that this is an acceptable loss. First off, MI shoulda won that game hands down, no question about that, but what people fail to see is the quality of that football team. They were talented and ran their schemes well. It was horrible scheduling because I don't care what division you're in, a national champ of anything isn't a good first game, let alone back to back champs. I think this will die out in the next few seasons as Appy St. just won 3 in a row which is impressive and that team that beat Michigan probably would have finished ranked top 20 BCS.

Gravatar @ UM07

10.5 in vegas

Gravatar So to follow up, I think Stanford over USC is a much more epic upset. I think the spread for that game was like 27.5 or something.

Gravatar That win was the perfect anecdote to a pretty poisonous year at times and a perfect springboard for Rich Rod to jump off of. Agree with Dex that taking control of a program like Michigan and replacing the majority of the coaching staff is a daunting task for any coach. I think he'll succeed, but nothing worthwhile is ever easy and I wouldn't expect this coaching change to be any different.

Gravatar Actually, I think the spread for the Stanford game was somewhere near 40. Insane.

Gravatar formerly anon,
No, its not Utah. We're going to smoke them with this offense! I was thinking Toledo!?!?!

Mgoblue,
That discussion goes back to mine, and many others point during those debates, that Michigan is an elite program.....yesterday was sweet validation of that fact.....RR left WVA because we are elite with a bucket of NFL talent on hand that only fellow elite programs have....gotta think he was drooling as he watched yesterday unfold.

Gravatar I meant what the spread of the game for UM v. FL was? anyone know?

Gravatar -samsoccer

Here you go...

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/s...capitalonebowl/

Gravatar ya i told you 10.5

Gravatar Antidote, Filliam, antidote...

Sorry, I'm in vocab/grammar police mode right now...

Gravatar Rich Rod drooling over our boys performance was much easier to take than Dick Butkus slobbering on his sandwich at the Rose Bowl.

Gravatar Michigan was a 10.5 dog

Gravatar BTW - was DeBord auditioning like crazy yesterday, or what? It's like he was hell-bent on showing that he could do something other than rock.

Gravatar thx - thought you were talkin about app st.

Gravatar whoops, agreed, bad misspell on that one cfaller. I think I killed an awful lot of brain cells yesterday after that win. A LOT of them.

Gravatar UM07,

oh my fault, sorry.

Gravatar True story:

This guy in my office (older than myself - graduated in the 60's) came in to congratulate me on the Capital One Bowl victory. He has always been a Lloyd Carr fan, so I showed him the clip of Lloyd's final post-game locker room speech. Afterwards, he thanked me for showing him the clip and he had tears in his eyes. And now the twist at the end of the story - my officemate is a Notre Dame grad.

Gravatar @chitownblue

This is where I felt that Michigan had a chance- with virtually the entire coaching staff looking to dust off their resumes, they knew they needed to put together a kickass gameplan for their last game at Michigan. I felt I was reaching in offering this theory about how Michigan had a chance, but as it turned out this is exactly what happened...

Gravatar this is the best hangover ive ever had!

Gravatar I really love this:

Carr smiled, and left Meyer with a message.

"Someday, you're going to retire," Tuesday's 62-year-old winner told its 43-year-old loser. "And your players are going to play as hard as mine did [today]."

Gravatar With Florida's weak secondary, I thought our only chance was if Henne could come out healthy, pass accurately, and exploit it. The fact that he had a career day--well, there's your ballgame. I can't believe more emphasis hasn't been put on the numbers he put up yesterday. His NFL stock rose considerably yesterday methinks.

Gravatar @ jamie

"Do you guys realize that every team undergoing a coaching change lost their bowl game this year....but Michigan?"

One of the benefits of yesterday's win was that the assistants got some positive press for themselves for their job searches. The Appy State thing hurt each of their resumes - now they can neutralize the horror with how they coached this win. Lloyd gave them a chance to showcase themselves. . . .

Gravatar To give credit to one of the guys we beat, Percy Harvin is incredible.

I mean, I knew about the speed, I knew he was versatile as hell and could run and play receiver at a very high level.

I was impressed as hell with his toughness. He showed a surprising ability to get hit and keep moving forward for a guy who's pretty small. Kid's just a football player. Everything PSU wanted Derek Williams to be and more.

Gravatar Dex,
When I say Michigan is an elite program, trust me I am using a way bigger sample size than one game. I am using a 127-sample size. Pretty sure thats big enough. Yesterday was single game proof. We have "underachieved" for a few years, but never, ever fell out of elite status really by any measure you want to measure. Fan base, wins, big bowl game appearances, conference titles, quality of talent....basically you are an elite program if you are a top destination choice for the next line of great players. Michigan is there, but we had stagnated on the field. The RR hire has already awoken the program. Trust me, Michigan is an elite program....its just that the team photo of elite programs has radically increased over the last two decades. I would submit that our place within that elite pecking order has indeed taken a hit, but we never fell out of that group.

Gravatar It had been a long time for us and is was awesome to not just feel good about our team, but have a result as well to feel good about.
Jamie Mac | Homepage | 01.02.08 - 11:08 am | #

Here, here!!

Gravatar Of course, I meant 127-year sample size.

Gravatar "And lastly, there was this: "So gentlemen, what a happy day you've given me to remember the rest of my life.""

Did this remind anyone else of the last scene in Dead Poet's Society?

Gravatar Percy Harvin was very fast but did you see Morgan Trent chase him down...holy shit!

Gravatar "...Fcuk the Schmuckeyes. . . .they played Akron and Youngstown State to get to 11-1.
Go Tigers. . .
TorontoBlue | 01.01.08 - 11:17 pm"

all the other trash talk is what it is, but, sorry, just can’t let this one go...

I usually just read and enjoy the usually informed commentary... and I DID try; even waited until I got to work, but just can’t...

@TorontoBlue... you gotta be kidding me!!... root all ya want for LSU, but strength of schedule ?!!!? that is your big argument against Ohio State? First, way to take a page from the SEC Book of Trash Talk; why don’t you just move to Florida and join the Gator Nation. Second, sadly for you, strength of schedule is just NOT a good argument for a UofM fan in 2007; what murders’ row of teams did UofM PLAY to get to 8 and 4? (We’ll compare bowl results next Tuesday (and, still, congrats on the win!)). Third, most importantly (on several fronts), which teams did you not BEAT to get to 8 and 4? To avoid being completely insulting, I’ll let you fill in the blanks... So, to TorontoBlue, STFU.

Gravatar Yesterdays win was awesome.... I too have been scouring the internet all morning at work to read more reaction about the game. It's a little bittersweet because this was the team I expected to show up every week starting in September. It just goes to show you how hard it is to keep a team focused, not get the injury bug, and play up to expectations.

Regardless it was a great way to end an era, and for this senior class to go out. Congrats to them!

Gravatar Hey Jackass, you can't say "suck my balls" if you predicted a 35-17 Florida victory. Makes you sound like even more of a chaunce than you already are.

Gravatar Also, dont put me in the we are entitled to national championships crowd...i have never, ever felt that way about college football.....it takes a perfect storm of talent, on field breaks, scheduling breaks, not to mention results going your way from other sectors of the country and then some just to get there....i am hardly printing tickets to bcs title games because of RR, but I do know he will re-invigorate us and we will begin to use all our elite talent and get the most out of it, which has not been the case over the last several years...the direct result will be an evening out of the OSU-UM series as opposed to recent years and instead of 3 BCS Bowl Appearances in a five year span with an 0-3 record, perhaps we get a win or two......win a bcs national title? Who knows. But if RR has as long a tenure here as LC did, i think its fair to project an appearance or two in the 'big game.' Lot of factors, though. What if ND takes these stellar recruiting classes and regains its former status? We'd be back to the annual elimination game every september. What if MSU and the Illini continue their uptick. Wisco is not going anywhere. Penn St, at some point, will go through the same reinvigoration as we are now....and of course, those boys in Columbus will always stand in the way.

Gravatar Dex,

Michigan was and still is elite. Our situation is not like Alabama's. They were coming off bad seasons, we're coming off of a bad season. We still have the talent to win...this is why RR said we're coming into a good situation.

Beating Florida will help us in the pre-season rankings and we will definitely make a stand next year. We have the talent, we have the coach, now it's time to WIN BIG!

Gravatar Oh snap! Preseason guessing game time!

I'm calling #20!

Gravatar As a Northwestern alumnus, I can't recall ever having cheered so hard for Michigan in a bowl game. (I usually cheer for the Big Ten but more reservedly for Michigan and Ohio State.) After watching Phil Fulmer’s Bait Shop Boys* cheap shot Wisconsin’s QB several times in the Outback Bowl and then seeing those Florida a-holes taunt Michigan before the game, my anti-SEC ire was at an all-time high. Congratulations on a great win.

Kudos to ABC for calling out Florida’s poor sportsmanship rather than giving us the usual “there’s been some talking on both sides” commentary.

Here’s hoping the Buckeyes smoke LSU.
- - - - -
*In my mind’s eye, coaching Tennessee is merely a sideline gig for Fulmer, who sells the finest night crawlers in all the Tennessee Valley. Does the man not look like someone who runs a bait shop? Can’t you just see him dozing in a rocking chair on the porch of his bait shop, dreaming of bass as the tobacco juice dribbles down his chin onto his overalls?

Gravatar *thats #20 if MM and AA bolt as I somewhat expect them to. If either stays (read: AA), then #17. If both stay, #14.

Gravatar According to this report McGuffie is staying with his commitment.

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs...PDATE/ 801020404

Gravatar RE: Sam McGuffie

HALLELUJAH!!!

Gravatar Uh, never said we weren't elite. I used ""s around the word through, because it doesn't mean anything. It's an arbitrary definition. Meaningless.

I'm saying, cool out on the manic depressive shit. This game didn't change much in the overall picture. It's fun to enjoy, but it's still a team that went 8-5, played atrociously at times and brilliant a couple times, and gave up 35 points and 350+ yards to two players.

It's not ridiculous to disagree with the notion that next year is THE YEAR for Michigan to win big. There will most likely be growing pains and some transition issues. And the people calling most vehemently for overwhelming success in 2008 on the basis of beating Florida in the previous season will be the ones calling for Rodriguez to be fired if a very young Michigan team stumbles next year in a game they are "supposed" to win.

Gravatar \I think the spread for the Stanford game was somewhere near 40.//

USC was favored by 41. I'm still pissed at the Rose Bowl for picking Illinois to play them. They get a nice payday but all that did was set the table for USC to be ranked #1 again at the beginning of next year.

Hey, Tebow, replace your divots!

Gravatar At least if UGA had played USC then Illinois would have had a chance to win their bowl game.

And I wouldn't have been reduced to watching the Simpsons by halftime in each of those BCS maulings.

Gravatar dex,

I might be delusional, or just nit picky today, but wasn't that team 9-4?

AppSt, Oregon, ?, Wisc, tOSU

Gravatar @TennBlue: nice callback on the Ufer poem. The original featured Woody Hayes as the guest of honor, yes?

Gravatar Dex,
I hear ya, but a couple of points.

1.) I have been manic depressant about UM football since 1979!

2.) At least from me personally, lets not confuse my excitement about the future with any 2008 is our big year sentiment.....it takes a perfect storm of circumstance and one is schedule and we have to many big road games next year to predict an unblemished record. That said, I do expect to enter Columbus with a BCS Bowl bid on the line. But those are my expectations heading into the OSU for every year.

3.) That said, I am stoked about next year because of yesterday. It showed what can be done with a basic spread, passing offense. The typical media meme was the Michigan would have to rebuild with RR because our personnel does not match his system. We showed yesterday what we can do if we spread out all the current talent we do have out on the field. RR will do that and it will cause immediate matchup and gameplan problems for all our opponents. Thats new territory for Michigan, and its pretty damn exciting. RR himself said during an in-game interview that you can do so many things with the spread and he cited what we were doing yesterday as an example. So, yeah, consider me pumped at the site of Mallett/Threet in a shotgun with any one of our RBs back there with him and 4 to 5 wideouts spreading the field. Cant wait to watch those big 10 LBs try and guard, say, Junior Hemingway.

I mean the book is out on Michigan. Everyone has known what we were going to do for years. Despite that we found a way to win a vast majority of our games and compete and win league titles....now, nobody knows how exactly we will be using our talent and it will cause immediate headaches for our fellow big 10 brethren!!!

Gravatar \I think Stanford over USC is a much more epic upset.//

The only reason I disagree is because Stanford probably had at least a few guys who could have made the depth chart at USC, if not actually started. Players with the physical talent to play and the brainpower to attend Stanford probably got a cursory look at SC, but there was no one on App State's team that would've gotten a sniff at Michigan. The truth is the guys at App State didn't even get scholarship offers to a school like Wake Forest, a decidedly second/third tier football program in a decidedly second/third tier conference...but a Division 1-A conference, nonetheless.

Gravatar @formerlyanon

No, your totally right. It's been a long, hazy week.

My general thesis remains the same, :)

Gravatar I can't wait for the offensive UFR. I'm not one of the nuts and bolts guys but that was not the same offense we ran all season. I don't think all the differences can be put on a healthy Henne either. That was not the same offense at OSU 06 or the following Rose Bowl either. A couple of examples.

1. All those Manningham runs. Those could have been run even if Henne's arm had fallen off.

2. I swear they had new running plays for Hart. That first run was not a standard zone left and they ran that one several times. The line crushed on it also.

3. None of the bombs we've become accustomed to.

Why the change?

Gravatar GREAT win! SO. HAPPY.

re: Omar Hunter, he mentions ND's style doesn't suit him. Wonder what that style is and if RR can work on him at all to get UM back in the game.

Gravatar For as much as I dislike the SEC, I hate OSU more. Hell, academically OSU belongs in the SEC. Seeing the Buckeye comments on this thread disgust me.

Go Tigers!

Gravatar imafreak,
I agree.....heard Henne say something on the radio that they put a basic spread offense package in during bowl practices and what we saw yesterday was the fruits of that effort....and, to repeat myself, its why I am pumped more so for next year.....what will this look like after an entire off season of tinkering and work.....sure, we will have new guys in critical roles, but its not like they'll be totally green or fish out of water either.....i do think we're headed for exciting times.

Gravatar I'm pumped to read the offensive UFR, too. There were all kinds of wacky plays (the pass-back to Henne, the attempted screen to Long), but the play that stood out for me was when we lined up in the diamond formation (four WRs on the right). In the past, that's an automatic WR screen and I think that's how Florida played it. Instead, Henne dumped it off on the left to Butler and he ran 60 yards down to the 4 yard line. Great stuff.

Gravatar I stand by my strong criticism of the play calling immediately following the first turn over on downs. It was the vintage turtling that has cost us so many times in the past. They had to try and score a TD to win. Run, pass, pass was the way to go. Taking FLA's TO's and running 30 seconds was not as important as a TD. Going up by 6 was only a little better situation because FLA had already demonstrated little faith in their kicking game. They weren't kicking no FG anyway.

I was so sad the Long screen didn't work. That is how to coach bowls. Make it the fun reward it is supposed to be!

Gravatar Couple stats to use against the inevitable "Yeah, well Tebow still dominated Michigan" defense used by the SEC trolls:

In UF's 8 SEC games + Florida State (which fits in the 'southern speed' theme):

Only once was Tebow held to under 200 yards passing. We held him to 154, a season low, despite 33 attempts, which was one off a season high.

Only twice was Tebow held to fewer than the 56 rushing yards we allowed him to gain, and only twice, did he have a worse yards per carry.

Finally: No team held Tebow to under 60 yards rushing and under 200 yards passing in any game all season. Until he faced the plodding mediocrity that is the Big 10.

Gravatar @imafreak

I think originally that 3rd down play was supposed to be a pass play; you could see Lloyd saying "Why didn't he pass?!!!" Henne just saw something he either didn't like or thought he could exploit and called an audible. Can't fault the play call, IMO.

Gravatar Johnny Sideburns,

"The only reason I disagree is because Stanford probably had at least a few guys who could have made the depth chart at USC, if not actually started. Players with the physical talent to play and the brainpower to attend Stanford probably got a cursory look at SC"

Having done the past two years of play-by-play for Stanford's student station, I can say with fair certainty this is not the case. Not one of Stanford's starters (possibly the long-snapper) would get a look at first-string at USC. They might not even be as good as the backups.

The upset was a function of factors in all upsets - some guys played the game of their lives, USC was poorly prepared, their QB had a bad day, turnovers, unsightly facial blemishes, and a team that melted under the pressure as Stanford asserted itself.

Stanford is really playing a Wake Forest game (actually, probably less than Wake talent). There are some studs, but the overall roster is not particularly remarkable. Think Northwestern and take that down a notch. It is tough going on the Farm.

As a Michigan fan and a slight Stanford fan (even though I'm a grad student I did my undergrad elsewhere)
I put the USC upset way higher than App State. For one, USC's better than UM was, and their loss eventually knocked them out of the national title game. Also the teams were familiar with one another which negates some schematic and motivational advantage. For UM it was just the start of a series of heartwrenching events all season. Go Blue!

Gravatar What were Carr's comments on Mallet?

Gravatar The BIGGEST upset of all time occurred in 1969. Period. How soon we forget.

Gravatar heard Henne say something on the radio that they put a basic spread offense package in during bowl practices and what we saw yesterday was the fruits of that effort

This is just so awesome. Because aside from the fact that we kicked ass yesterday, I can't help but think that the Great White Fail tried to install a "spread package" into ND's offense prior to its first game of the season, against Georgia Tech. Though he had all offseason to draw it up, it failed miserably, and he abandoned it after a half. He even had a running QB to work with (Demetris Jones)!

Michigan has a month to get its package together, and has to execute it with a statue at quarterback, and it works to absolute perfection. I LOVE IT!!!

Mike DeBord > Charlie Weis

Btw, if I'm totally oversimplifying the above, I don't care.

Gravatar Sorry if this is old news, but Brandon Smith is down to two, and is quoted as saying it is down to UM and South Carolina. Also, called McGuffie "his boy" and took photos together at the Al American bowl. Supposedly is the best East safety on the team.

Gravatar How much would anyone have paid to see Jamar Adams do the Heisman pose after sacking Shebow? $20? $50?

Gravatar As far as I am concerned, yesterday makes up for the memory of Mario Bailey, not only shutting down Desmond in the 1992 Rose Bowl, but also doing the Heismann pose after an INT.....its good to see us on the other end of the Heismann jinx. Tebow had some numbers, but was overwhelmed by UM pressure in his two attempts at a game winning drive....good stuff, for sure.

Gravatar Tubes -
I wouldn't want to see that at all. Adams got beat for 2 TD's

Gravatar I just can't get off how great Chad Henne played yesterday. The ability to read the defense, audible out at the line of scrimmage, and then to make razor-sharp accurate throws time and again on 3rd and long...wow, he redeemed himself big time on a national stage. I think he can definitely have some success at the next level if he can stay healthy...

Gravatar Chad Henne was a flippin' stud.

Gravatar Filliam - I'm with you. I was shocked at just how awesome Henne looked yesterday. Those two throws down the sidelines (one to MM, the other to AA), were absolute dead-on strikes into perfect coverage. He was just incredible.

Gravatar When UM was trying to find a coach, I visited this board to see the updates. Most LSU (SEC) fans were wishing you guys the best. Now we get a "suck my balls"!?

Classy

Gravatar I second the excitement around reading the UFR for the game... can't say that I've been excited about it coming out that often this season... but this game made it worth it =)

Gravatar How much would anyone have paid to see Jamar Adams do the Heisman pose after sacking Shebow

nice!! thats just about the only thing that coulda made the game better!

i don't know about anyone else, but I've had this image in my head all morning: Long catching that screen pass with a terrified cornerback in front of him. as JL barrels forward, the CB dives at his legs. Showing amazing athletism for a tackle, Jake hurdles the CB, then put his head down and plows through the safety, rendering him unconsious and scoring a most improbable TD.

The clip is shown over and over at the draft, boosting JL's draft status even higher. 50 years from now, Jake tells his grandkids how coming back for his senior year at michigan was the best decision he ever made.

Gravatar @imafreak

During the three consecutive unsuccessful throws of rock, I turned to everyone in the room and said, "Michigan may end up winning this game, but this is exactly why we needed a coaching change." It was clear to me that the coaches had already decided to settle for a field goal attempt and make one more stop on defense, which made me want to put my foot through the TV.

I felt it was a bad gamble to lean on your defense to win the game, rather than the offense that had already put up 500+ yards and 38 points. I felt it was a better gamble to lean on the offense to get a first down and ice the damn game. As it turned out, the defense held up, but that does not automatically make that decision the right one. Sometimes you make the right call and lose, and sometimes you make the wrong call and win. Settling for that second field goal rather than going for a first down was the wrong call, IMO.

Gravatar Talk about hanging tough in the pocket under duress too...I think Henne's performance yesterday explains our preseason ranking...people in the know knew this is what we were capable of this year. I will always remember this game as the game where the Heisman trophy winner got absolutely schooled by Chad Henne. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

Gravatar Just to chime in re. whom to support in the MNC game: I back any Big Ten team, even Sparty (at least this year), with one exception - I will never root for OSU, I don't care how kind and reasonable they might sound in their comments on the board. I grew up in Ohio and found Buckeye fans to be almost to a person insufferable, mean-spirited, and spiteful toward UM. No room for Christian charity here, nor for Notre Dame, either.

And now it looks like Florida, courtesy of the Whine King, has joined to make a triumvirate.

It's good to hate ...

Gravatar @ JamieMac:

Ha! Mario Bailey. Repped.

Gravatar Filliam -
I wouldn't say Tebow got schooled by Henne. I think the UF defense did. Tebow played very well, in spite of his coaches.

Gravatar The 2nd thing I can't get off is how bad of a loser Urban Cryer is. I will say a prayer every day thanking God he doesn't represent our school.

Gravatar BTW, watching video of Brandon Smith at the Army All-American Bowl...

He looks slow.

Say hello to linebacker.

Gravatar scalz-true, he schooled their defense, but Hanne had a career day, Tebow clearly didn't. Henne had 373 yards passing to Tebow's 154. Even when you add in Tebow's rushing yardage, no contest. Henne was the better QB yesterday.

Gravatar @scalz

On one of those touchdowns, Adams is getting a bum rap, IMO. There was one touchdown pass to Harvin where Obi f--king Ezeh was assigned man coverage on Harvin (or at least that's how it appeared on TV and replay). People keep faulting Adams for not giving help, but...any scheme and playcall that has Obi f--king Ezeh covering Harvin is destined to fail, IMO. He's Obi Ezeh, not Obi Wan Kenobi.

I kind of want to blame English for not having a better call, but maybe a defensive player can be faulted for not audibling a new coverage for Harvin in the slot. But was Adams the player to be faulted for that? Or was it Crable or Englemon or somebody else's responsibility for coverage audibles? I don't know, but at least on that one touchdown I'm inclined to direct my wrath at somebody other than Adams.

Gravatar i might be in the minority here (and possible the only person representing the minority), but i actually supported the 3 straight runs on our last offensive possession. when we took the lead with the ball and 9 minutes to go, we lined up 4-wide when i was convinced we would pack it in. and then threw a pick. tebow had not demonstrated any ability to throw the ball downfield all game, our pass rush was dominant and we were crusing their line on every play, and harvin was completely gassed. with 2 minutes left, no timeouts, no deep-threats, and no time to throw, i like our chances. if we threw and either thew a pick or left more time on the clock, we had issues. also, with the three runs, hart and our line looked dominant all game. its not like we took a knee- one hart first down wins it. for the only time all game, their d-line stuffed up the run.

anyway, just my thoughts...

Gravatar @scalz

Somebody upthread already pointed out that, statistically speaking, Tebow had his worst performance of the season. Nobody had held him under 200 passing and 60 rushing, until yesterday. His YPA and YPC numbers were actually not good by any stretch.

The Heisman curse lives on, IMO...

Gravatar cfaller -

Gotcha.Looked different from up high in section 330, and I had about 8 beers in me.
Jamar Adams was awsome and horrible at the same time yesterday. MOre awesome than horrible, though.

Gravatar i enjoy the back and forth with many on this board.

Maybe the events of this past weekend is putting a different perspective on some of the things that people are saying, now that the joy has worn off... let me explain...

In the offseason i work witha wonderful, great coach, our head mens basketball coach. THe parents at my school, are relentless when it comes to the idea that their kids are the best, and if they dont win, its the coaches fault. They are constatnly looking for a reason to not like, and to get our basketball coach fired. This past weekend, in the little four tournament at the gboro colliseum, we had a little guard, who has been a roll player the past several seasons, jsut have a remarkable game, he scores 30 points, and hits a three at the buzzer, that would have tied the game, the refs call it a two game over.

at any rate after the game, the parents have a meeting, once again trying to fire the coach, the MOTHER of that player, who coach has helped for 4 years, complained that his performance in this game PROVED why coach should be fired, that he is holding him back.

You guys know that i look at everything michigan through two sets of glasses, a fan, and a coach. I have been more critical of some of the assistant coaches this season than anyone else. And piled on Carr and the staff just like we all have. But in this moment of victory, i am going to give credit where credit is due. THe coaches molded this victory... if we blamn them when we lose, we need to praise them for this victory... Thanks coach carr, and your staff, for your wonderful efforts this past bowl game...

Gravatar cfaller,
I agree 100%. I am sure you've heard me whine on this board before about what an additional first down in a handful of games over the years would have meant to the program, and so forth....as we lined up for the FG, i was convinced we were heading to a Texas RB-like finish. I noticed we had 2 timeouts left and I was hoping LC learned from that to at least give the O another chance....still kinda shocked were got them off the field there w/o giving up a first down.

Gravatar does anyone have a link to the attempted Jake Long screen pass??

Gravatar Cfaller-

We held him to his worst performance and won by 6. I wouldn't call that getting schooled.

Gravatar "When UM was trying to find a coach, I visited this board to see the updates. Most LSU (SEC) fans were wishing you guys the best. Now we get a "suck my balls"!?

Classy"

In Brian's defense... that comment was meant with the deepest sincerity.

Mike DeBord > Charlie Weis

----

Thanks, Gnarls, it's about time somebody said so.

And I think it's worth thinking about why this would be. It certainly isn't a question of technical ability.

Ultimately, I think it comes down to the fanatical loyalty Carr inspires--loyalty that's paid for by his loyalty in turn to his players, his staff, the institution. It's the flip side of the "cronyism" coin that's come under so much criticism hereabouts. If I had to choose between a coach who sometimes holds on to his assistants too long and a coach who throws his qb or his kicker under the bus at the first opportunity after a tough loss, well, that's an easy choice. I can't imagine 6am stadium walks by Weis and a troubled player having quite the same impact as LC and AA's.

With that loyalty comes a resiliency that I think is often taken for granted by those who don't remember the time before Bo. I don't think the many outrageous comebacks under Lloyd are an accident. I also don't think the 33 straight bowl games are an accident. There have been good years and bad years, but since Bo came no season has ever spiraled completely out of control the way they have at, well, every other school in the country, at some point during that span.

I'm guessing DeBord and Carr learned a bit of spread offense from Rodriguez the last couple of weeks. I hope the learning process goes the other way, too, and Rodriguez can learn a bit from Carr too. Maybe a daily stadium walk?

Gravatar Coach Brabbs - I was in the minority with you. Sure, I would have loved to ice the game, but given the odd things that were happening, turnover-wise, to us, I just wanted to not give them any bit of hope or chance. But you're absolutely right with your assessment of Tebow's throwing downfield (at least when he wasnt in the red zone) and Harvin's fatigue - their offense was centered around two guys, and you could just tell that Harvin didn't have anything left in the tank. (an aside: what a phenomenal player he is, though) To me, it was a more calculated risk than giving them timeouts and time to move down the field in short chunks - which they were perfectly capable of doing.

It reminded me of the ending of the Penn State game - once they were put in a situation where they had to throw downfield, they had no chance

Gravatar @ scalz
Take away the 4 turnovers (not to mention where and when they occurred) and Michigan wins by much more than 6 points. IMO, I don't think the final score can be used as an argument that Tebow played the caliber of football that Henne did.

Gravatar The first run after the turn over on downs was a zone left. It was a zone left in an obvious running situation and looked like so many other zone lefts this season. The defense knew it was coming and killed it. Hart's previous success had been on more of a zone read look (it was something new) and because M was passing so effectively. DeBord called such a great game that it was sad to see him revert at a critical time. If the final draw was an audible then my criticism is less strident. I have often thought Henne tended to audible into runs more than I would have liked.

Gravatar @scalz

The four turnovers contributed to the tight game, so...nyah nyah, take that.

Look, I don't know where the argument started, but I do think our defense provided a blueprint for the rest of the country on how to "stop" Tebow. I'm not sure, but it seems like you're disagreeing with this sentiment.

Perhaps you're hung up on the idea that stopping a QB should be absolute, and that a defense fails at this if a significant amount of yards are gained and points are put up.

But Michael Jordan will always get his 30, and Tim Tebow will always run for a TD and throw for a TD. The trick is to limit it to just that, and force him out of his comfort zone. Michigan did that, IMO, to the point that they were able to make TWO(!) back-to-back stops on him in crunch time.

Gravatar Coach Brabbs--

At least you're not a minority of one. I thought it was worth a lot to take UF's timeouts away--it just about forces them to throw beyond the sticks on every down and you can really turn the pass rush loose when the threat of a run or a pass in the flat has been taken away.

But then, I'm a rock-thrower from way back....

Gravatar @cfaller

Agree 100% with regards to Ezeh and the possible missed audible. Ezeh was put in a bad spot by somebody (RE or the lack of audible) and cannot be expected to cover Harvin. Should Adams have been there to help? I can't say. I haven't seen that play since watching it live.

Regardless of whether Adams directly or indirectly was at fault for the TDs, you have to admit the post-sack Heisman pose would have been sweet. Classless, but I would have been OK with it

Gravatar @cfaller--couldn't have said it better myself. Tebow definitely made some plays, and most likely there will never be a game where that won't be the case. Yet any thing he did yesterday was completely overshadowed by Chad's performance IMO.

Gravatar Whoa whoa whoa -

I am by no means trying to downplay anything that happened on the field. UM was great at stopping Tebow. I just don't get all the "take the Heisman back" talk. Chad played out of his freakin' mind yesterday, without a doubt. But I don't think Tebow sucked up the place, either.
That's the end of any discourse from me on this subject, anyway.

Gravatar I wasn't online yesterday so it has prob alread already been said, but I'll say it again anyway: It was just wonderful to see, of all people, Lloyd and DeBord, completely shove it up Urban Meyer's ass. I've never seen a U-M team play with such gumption, and I've never wanted them to win a game more. That might sound like an overstatement, but it's not!

Gravatar When UM was lined up in that diamond wide receiver setup, I actually stopped the DVR and told everyone watching, "I hate this. Everyone knows where Michigan is going. They should fake the short pass and throw long." Well, I didn't get exactly what I wanted. But, the throw to Butler was a sweet change of pace.

Gravatar Congrats to coach carr and all CLASSY michigan fans ("suck my balls"? real classy). I don't know which team is better personnel wise, but I do know that Michigan simply wanted to win more than we did. We played laggish and uninspired ball while you guys played like your coaches life and ultimate pride were on the line.

Congrats and stay classy.

Gravatar i agree w/ Coach Brabbs & desert blue re: the last scoring drive after the TO on downs by UF. getting the 1st down doesn't ice the game. getting the TD does, but taking all 3 TOs away and forcing a TD drive by tebow w/o the thread of the run (b/c they had no TOs) is a safe bet. tebow isn't a heisman winner when the threat of the run is taken from him, as in their last 4&out drive.

Gravatar re: Adams doing the Heisman over Teebow.

One thing that bugged me a little was the trash-talking going on throughout the game. I'm going to guess, given the pre-game bullshit at mid-field, that a lot of that stuff was instigated by FL.

But I like to think of MI as an island of class in the rough waters of college athletics... Esp. when we're going up against an SEC team.

Posing over Teebow would've been like a school on Memorial Day.

Gravatar @Coach Brabbs
i might be in the minority here (and possible the only person representing the minority), but i actually supported the 3 straight runs on our last offensive possession.

Oh, bitch, it's on. A flame war's a-comin'. I'll take you on point by point:

when we took the lead with the ball and 9 minutes to go, we lined up 4-wide when i was convinced we would pack it in. and then threw a pick.

The turnovers were unsettling, but we're just talking about getting a first down, not necessarily a touchdown. And we're talking about doing that by using a passing game that had already gained 373 yards, on a secondary that had all season long been a liability. Your fear of an interception seems excessive, IMO- there are ways to protect the ball while still passing. And 2-fumbles-Hart turned it over just as much as the passing game, yet where is your fear for the defense stripping him while stacking against the run?

There's risk in everything, but I liked the risk of leaning on our passing game better than leaning on our defense, which was the essential bet made by the three consecutive runs. There was no intent and no plan to get a first down there, and I think that was the wrong call there.

tebow had not demonstrated any ability to throw the ball downfield all game

With over 2 minutes left, he wouldn't have needed to go downfield. You can move the chains 80 yards in under 2 minutes, especially if you use the sidelines. Ask any pro QB how they run their 2 minute offense, and they'll tell you it's about moving the chains, not throwing deep balls.

our pass rush was dominant and we were crusing their line on every play, and harvin was completely gassed. with 2 minutes left, no timeouts, no deep-threats, and no time to throw, i like our chances.

This is subjective and somewhat colored by hindsight, IMO. The pass rush was affecting Tim Tebow, no doubt, but only to the tune of 1 or 2 sacks and no interceptions. At the time, it was not clear to me that our defense could rock Tebow. They had rattled him, sure, but two minute offenses can sometimes settle QBs into a zone. Add in that on any given down Tebow can scramble away from pressure for a first down, and it just looked excessively risky to me, when compared with the risk of using the pass to get one freakin' first down.

if we threw and either thew a pick or left more time on the clock, we had issues.

This makes no sense to me. In one breath, you're saying the D was "dominating," but in the next breath the D suddenly has "issues" if Florida gets the ball back too quickly. How does the addition of a timeout or 20 seconds to Florida's arsenal so severely weaken our defense?

also, with the three runs, hart and our line looked dominant all game. its not like we took a knee- one hart first down wins it. for the only time all game, their d-line stuffed up the run.

They stuffed it because they gambled,

Gravatar @Coach Brabbs

Continuing my previous comment that got truncated:

also, with the three runs, hart and our line looked dominant all game. its not like we took a knee- one hart first down wins it. for the only time all game, their d-line stuffed up the run.

They stuffed it because they gambled, and gambled correctly. Florida gambled that Michigan would rather run the clock than get a first down, and they were right.

And the coaches may as well have called a QB kneel for what they intended (i.e. another defensive stop). I disagree with your statement that "one Hart first down wins it", because I don't think the coaches were intending to get a first down in the first place. I believe they called those runs to force Florida to burn all their timeouts, and also force them to go for a touchdown (presuming a successful FG attempt, of course). There was no plan to get a first down and end the damn game right then and there- the coaches were planning on making one more defensive stop.

They were successful, but I think the plan to make one more defensive stop was riskier than a plan to get one more first down through the air. The defense played pretty well, but the offense was playing way better, and the passing offense was playing the best. Better to go with the "hot hand" to win the game, IMO.

But Lloyd always would go with the defense and the running game to win, no matter what. And in this case, I disagreed with Lloyd.

Gravatar The argument is that Florida having a timeout makes a designed Tebow run a real threat, since they can afford the time. Taking away his timeouts puts him into a throw-only mode, which makes defending him significantly easier.

At the time I was throwing things at the TV, but after having that explanation put forth, I'm at least willing to admit that forcing Florida to zero timeouts wasn't terrible, strategically. I'm not sure it was the best call, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't a bad one - Tebow's main threat is in his versatility, and having zero timeouts in a 2 minute drill removes a large portion of that versatility.

Gravatar Ok, heres my take on the whole final offensive series....at some point, the first down is what ices the game.....your goal is to use your best offensive plays to get those necessary ten yards.....thats something we never seem to do, instead we alwats run our most predictable running plays on the other teams stops us....I know Hart had a good game yesterday, but on one of those plays--perhaps second down as a surprise--I would have like a bread and butter passing play....like one of those notorious drag plays where matthews catches it and runs past the sticks....if he cant get to the sticks, he stays in bounds, clock runs, Fla needs to call a TO, but if its a first down, even w/ the one TO left, we can take the clock down to final seconds at worst.

I am not a play caller, but it seems like in a lot of these crushing losses, I look back and realize, man if we get a first there, the game is over and instead we punt or put a 3 that while important still keeps hope alive for the other team....iirc correctly, all we needed was one more first down and the horror would have been nothing more than a close call.

Gravatar a first down and end the damn game right then and there-

disagree...a 1st down there only ices the game if UF is down to 0-1(maybe) TOs. getting a 1st down in 1-2 plays (or 3 with an incompletion that stops the clock) does not ice the game.

Gravatar cfaller96: Every decision involves a gamble. Of course we would have agonized over this decision if we had lost, but we didn't so what's the use?

That said, the U-M D has shown one thing over English's time in charge - once it eliminates the run or even the chance of a run, it does a damn good job of stopping the pass. Harvin was totally gassed and Tebow had to drop back and the pressure meant he couldn't run to escape and buy more time, when WRs get free. Look at his last 7-8 throws - most of them were completely awful. Wobbly, skyward, coulda-been-picked awful. Was there one throw he made on their two final drives that you didn't think would be intercepted? You could see on Harvin's face that he was dead, and the last few they gave to him, he got nowhere.

U-M's done this time and time again the last few years. Once they are committed to defending the pass, they blitz like hell and people like Crable work their magic. Your points are completely valid, but by being aggressive on D, U-M took the initiative out of Tebow's hands. Game. Over.

Gravatar If there is ever a day to need a content fix, it is today. No matter how many stories I read, I cannot get enough.

Where's Brian at?

Gravatar click refresh, former...new post. not much new stuff tho.

Gravatar Brian is probably face down in a pile of Dom Perignon bottles and naked co-eds.

God bless you, Brian

Gravatar @delay
The argument is that Florida having a timeout makes a designed Tebow run a real threat, since they can afford the time. Taking away his timeouts puts him into a throw-only mode, which makes defending him significantly easier.

But I don't agree with this sentiment. Tebow is still a running threat, because he can run out of bounds. He's fast enough and smart enough to do that. I just disagree with the idea that taking away all the timeouts somehow "boxed" Tebow in to a passing-only game. He can still scramble and pick up first downs, which is all a QB will ever do in a 2 minute offense- "designated" Tebow runs were out the door after the first turnover on downs, IMO.

Gravatar is anyone watching cold pizza and listening to the ESPN radio guy (he's bald) talking about why Lloyd Carr isn't coaching here anymore? I think he thinks Lloyd got fired. Why can't anyone get it through their thick skulls that the man is 62, been a HC for 13 years and at Michigan for 28 and RETIRED!!! Rich Rodriguez is our coach because Lloyd RETIRED, not because he got fired. Good Lord, it's killing me.

Gravatar @ cfaller96

On the contrary, I was under the impression that Tebow was contained pretty well all day. I thought our DEs/OLBs were doing an excellent job of keeping him in the pocket. Yes, he's fast enough to get to the sideline, but that doesn't mean he would.

Also, you see these end-of-game situations go both ways. Sometimes going for the first down works, and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes playing it conservative and leaving it up to your defense works, and sometimes, it doesn't.

Neither tactic is flawless. But it worked this time. You can't really question the staff's decision, because there's no guarantee - or even a preponderance of evidence - that an alternative tactic would have worked.

Gravatar Worst part is, NOBODY IS CORRECTING HIM!

Gravatar but cfaller, it takes away the designed run threat, which was tebows key to effectiveness. that little stutter step after the snap is pointless on that last drive b/c everyone knows the play is a designed pass.

Gravatar Re: Harvin and fatigue

Do you really want our coaches to make game decisions based upon whether or not Harvin looks "gassed" in the face? That's sloppy, armchair, "intangible" analysis at its worst, right there in the category of saying someone leads the league in smiles or that Team A didn't have enough "heart".

I do agree we should have gone for the 1st down, but only once we'd run them out of 2 timeouts. Leaving 2 or 3 gives a lot of flexibility, but 1 isn't so bad. Exhausting all 3 obviously worked, so whatever. But like cfaller said, just because it worked doesn't mean it's right. If I drive home safely after drinking 12 beers it doesn't mean I was sober.

Gravatar DanK
Getting a 1st down in 1-2 plays (or 3 with an incompletion that stops the clock) does not ice the game.

If you get a first down on the first play, Florida takes a TO, and Michigan now has 3 more plays to run, and Florida can only stop it 2 more times. At that point, definitely throw rock and kick a field goal.

Now, it may seem similar, but that one first down has made the situation vastly different, IMO. Instead of being down 6 with 2+ minutes to go (and no timeouts), Florida is down 6 with just a little over a minute to go (and no timeouts). To me, the challenge of scoring a touchdown is way more difficult with 1 minute rather than 2 minutes.

If Michigan gets a first down in 2 plays (after throwing rock and forcing a TO on first down), then the situation is even better, as Florida would be reduced to trying for a touchdown with maybe 30 seconds left.

I think leaving Florida down 6 with no timeouts and a minute to go (or less) is essentially "icing" the game, whereas leaving them that extra minute gives them a reasonable chance to win. Eh, bygones, it worked out anyway.

Gravatar To me, the challenge of scoring a touchdown is way more difficult with 1 minute rather than 2 minutes.

disagree....the clock stops at a 1st down in college...so in any case, the M D just needs a 4 & out.

not to mention that if M does get a 1st, the clock stops, so the time that runs off isn't quite as much as one would think.

plus, i'm not willing to concede that running 3 times isn't going for a 1st down. in fact, run run run to get a 1st wins the game hands down.

Gravatar FWIW, as a Buckeye, I always pull for Michigan (and the rest of the Big 10) in bowl games; this one is just a bit sweeter than usual because you happened to beat Florida. It seems as if this is business as usual in the SEC. I think this is one thing (the only thing) we could take from them.

Gravatar Magnus
Neither tactic is flawless. But it worked this time. You can't really question the staff's decision, because there's no guarantee - or even a preponderance of evidence - that an alternative tactic would have worked.

Ultimately, these decisions are just reflections of the coaches personality, but I think what we saw yesterday was a reflection of Lloyd's stubbornness. Brian has said (and I agree) that Lloyd always- ALWAYS!- coaches as if he's got a killer defense and a solid running game, no matter what the facts are. And so we've been treated to many heartbreaks over the years because the defense was NOT, in fact, killer, or the run game was NOT, in fact, solid.

Further, there will be days when the defense is struggling and/or the run game is off, and good coaches should be flexible enough to "roll" with that and figure out how to win the damn game given the circumstances of the day. Lloyd doesn't have that flexibility, IMO.

Yesterday the defense did rise up to the challenge, and they did do some good things, so Lloyd turned out to be right. Prior to that last defensive stop, though, how many of us were holding our breath, waiting for yet another Vince Young heartbreak? Be honest, you weren't clapping your hands saying "yeah, we've been dominating Tebow all day, this game is over!"...you were bracing for it, which means that some of the justification for the strategy is due to the benefit of hindsight.

Maybe we shouldn't be constantly taking the kinds of risks that need hindsight to justify them. It worked today...for the first time in, like, forever. I still don't like it.

Gravatar Well, at the risk of getting shat upon by those who can't stand well wishes from rivals, congrats on the win from a Domer. I personally hate Urban Meyer with the heat of 10,000 suns . . . and, it was just nice to see Lloyd go out with a win. He's a classy guy, and college football will be poorer without him.

BTW, what the hell does Pat Forde (espn.com) have against RichRod? From this vantage, it seemed like he handled a high-profile CFB coaching change in about the most dignified manner possible. Sometimes, just sometimes, even if more money is involved, it's not really "all about the money."

Gravatar Be honest, you weren't clapping your hands saying "yeah, we've been dominating Tebow all day, this game is over!"...you were bracing for it, which means that some of the justification for the strategy is due to the benefit of hindsight.

have to disagree again. sure i was worried about a 1pt loss via a tebow TD drive. i was worried about the same thing in the PSU game this year. but when i saw how those 2 QBs (tebow & morelli) handled the situations, i began to feel better. especially w/ tebow yesterday b/c i saw that he was no threat to run (a designed run anyway). the florida offense is not that effective when tebow is not a threat to keep the ball & run.

Gravatar @DanK

disagree....the clock stops at a 1st down in college...so in any case, the M D just needs a 4 & out.

But that essentially eviscerates the argument that forcing Florida to burn all their timeouts was toootally worth not getting a first down in the first place. The M D will need to get a 4 and out no matter what, and Tebow would need to keep getting first downs no matter what. The only difference is in how much time Tebow's allowed to work with to get 6-7+ first downs, and what risk/cost you take in order to reduce his allotted time.

You can't say on the one hand Florida just has to get first downs with 1 minute left, but is "boxed in" with 2 minutes left. Florida has plenty of time to just move down the field by getting first downs either way. To me, I like my chances when they only have a minute to play with, and it's worth the risk of giving them an extra TO (in case of a Michigan pass incompletion) or approximately 10 yards of field position (in case of a Florida interception).

Others disagree, but this is starting to feel like the argument we had over Les Miles' decision to throw a TD pass to win against Auburn- late in the game, some people just don't like throwing the ball, no matter what the circumstances are. I'm not like that, and I dare say neither is RichRod. Some people are going to have to stock up on antacids for the next 10 years, because these situations will present themselves again, and RichRod might not always throw rock, like Lloyd did.

Gravatar @DanK
have to disagree again. sure i was worried about a 1pt loss via a tebow TD drive. i was worried about the same thing in the PSU game this year.

Oh, DanK, did you just equate the non-threat of Morelli to the real threat of Tebow? Morelli doesn't and never did scare me, but Tebow is a dangerous player. The two situations are vastly different because of that, IMO.

For the record, I was clapping my hands and saying "yeah, we've been dominating Morelli all day, this game is over!" Different situation, DanK, because the players are vastly different.

Gravatar For the record, I felt our defense had Tebow pretty much under control the entire game - the major worry for me was Harvin. How much of Tebow's passing numbers related to Harvin, again? 90%? Tebow really wasn't a significant threat to make the kind of plays that Young, Edwards, and Dixon broke us with, given the way the defense was playing - he was a reasonable threat most of the game as a power RB, but no more, and in the two minute drill, the power RB tends to get left out.

Again, with Tebow essentially neutralized as a running threat, Michigan's defense could commit to stopping Harvin and the pass. The pass rush had been reasonably effective all game, refusing to give Tebow significant time to throw and mostly preventing him from breaking free; the major passing mishaps were from LB on Harvin or pure blown coverage in the secondary, from what I saw. Given the way things were playing, forcing Tebow to win it with his arm without the option of using his legs was a pretty legitimate strategy.

Gravatar I think DeBord was locked up somewhere in the stadium and broke free just in time to get the last series called in. Only this time he figured instead of "zone left", he would really mix up Fla. defense and go "zone right".

You could see Lloyd asking after the third down play, "why didn't we pass?".

Gravatar Given the way things were playing, forcing Tebow to win it with his arm without the option of using his legs was a pretty legitimate strategy.

Would there ever be a situation where, with a lead late in the game, you would pass the ball to get a first down? Ultimately, I think this is the source of the disagreement. Lloyd/[NAME REDACTED] would never pass the ball if they had a lead late in the game. They would always throw rock, punt, and leave it up to the defense. It seems like some of you are ok with this.

But it's the absoluteness that's kind of bothering me. Sometimes it's ok to throw rock with a lead late in the game. But sometimes it's not ok to do that, and I wonder if we can get everybody to at least agree to that simple principle of being flexible based on the circumstances.

Gravatar good points. agreed w/ the last comment. the situation where i'd suggest passing to go for the 1st down (screw bleeding the clock & TOs) would be if the opposition had a health henne, basically. i guy who is designed to kill you w/ lasers from the pocket. a senior w/ lots of starts and has seen every coverage imaginable. or VY/TS.

Gravatar Absolutely, there are situations late in the game where you pass to get the first down. And in all likelihood, it might have worked out for Michigan there - the passing offense had been spot on all game, after all. If it had gone the other way, certainly people might have said "Why did he go for it, he could have just kicked the FG and forced them to win it without timeouts!" Hindsight's a beautiful thing.

On the other hand, maybe it doesn't. I don't take any issue with Lloyd being more willing to trust his defense not to allow a *touchdown* in 2 minutes with no timeouts than he was, to assume the offense could burn the entire game clock down. At that point, the defense was playing very well, after all, having just stoned Tebow on a 4 and out.

(Not to mention, he apparently did call pass on 3rd, so it's on Henne that it was three straight running plays.)

Gravatar For those complaining about Illinois playing in the Rose Bowl:

First off, if Illinois were not in a BCS game, then it would have played Florida in Orlando and we would have played Texas A&M in the Alamo instead of Penn State. Yuk.

I realize if Illinois were not in the Rose Bowl it might have ended up in Orange or Fiesta, but less likely.

Gravatar The Gator Sports Video Library has a game summary that is the most-pro UM piece I've seen yet. All it shows are the highlights for both teams. Isn't that disgusting? God, I hate ESPN.

http://www.gatorsports.com/secti...tion/ gators5001

Gravatar "Lloyd/[NAME REDACTED] would never pass the ball if they had a lead late in the game."

An odd comment, since the 3rd down call was a pass that Henne audibled out of.

For me, the primary source of disagreement is the absolute conviction of many that what you said was true, quite regardless of any evidence to the contrary. Lost the game?--would have been proof of Carr/DeBord's ineptitude. Won the game, scored 41 despite two turnovers at the goal line?--further proof of their ineptitude because every game wasn't this excellent. If they'd thrown on third down it probably would have confirmed your point because it showed how seldom that call was made in earlier games. Etc.

It's more than a little tiresome.

Gravatar From MGoBlog:Attention SEC fans, and I mean this with all the deepest sincerity I can muster: suck my balls.

Answer the question:
Who is the first team that lost to a sub divison team ..

Gravatar I don't know that the 3rd down call was a pass play that Henne audibled out of, and judging by the first two playcalls (zone right/left rock), I remain skeptical- after all, if the coaches really were trying to get a first down and were willing to pass to do it, then why wait until 3rd down to do it? If they really wanted to get another first down, why not pass on first down like they were doing for most of the rest of the game? Why abandon what had been working for you the entire game, if you really, really wanted that first down?

No, in my opinion the coaches had no intention of getting that first down.

Further, Yalt, go ahead and fuck yourself for putting words in my mouth- not everything is proof of [NAME REDACTED]'s ineptitude, and not everything that Lloyd and [NAME REDACTED] do is wrong. I never said that. I am quite willing to concede that the right calls could have been made, while still resulting in a loss. In fact, I think that's how I started off this discussion- by pointing out that you can make a bad call and win, and make a good call and lose, and vice versa.

So if you want to shit all over me for daring to question a call even when we win, then I suggest you stay away from any discussions about game analysis. Seriously, the whole "we won therefore they made the right call" is a hollow and insufficient justification for some coaching decisions, and really isn't worth anyone's time. If you really believe that a win justifies every single call, then perhaps you should be subjected to more games like the Northwestern game this year. They won, so everything was right in that game too, right? Ugh.

Some people do not want to pass the ball with a one score lead (or less) with under 3 minutes to go, EVER, and it just becomes a case of searching for reasons (Our defense was teh awesome! Our offense throws interceptions!) to justify that preference.

But it's just that- a preference. It's not gospel, and I don't share that preference for predictable playcalling (that's what ALWAYS doing something in a given situation is, BTW). Just like there are risks/drawbacks to my way of icing a game (i.e. sometimes scissors, sometimes rock), there are in fact risks/drawbacks to always throwing rock down the stretch (especially if the opponent knows you'll throw rock).

I concede there are risks to the way I would do it, I just don't understand why the lovers of rock-throwing refuse to see the risks in their own strategy.

Gravatar "Who is the first team that lost to a sub divison team .."

South Carolina lost to Furman in '82; I doubt that was the first but it was the oldest I could find on short notice.

...

And Baylor (ranked #20 in the UPI poll) lost to Lamar in '81.

I-AA started in '78; somebody with a database or the ESPN encyclopedia can probably find one from the first year.

Gravatar wow, almost 1000 replies. that's crazy. congrats to michigan on winning the capital one bowl - which means almost nothing. but they did win, which is better than losing.

my favorite quote from all the replies was this: "We all saw history made today." really? history? how so? because the victory ensured the seniors wouldn't go out as TOTAL losers, or that they won a big game, or that they somehow over-achieved and finally played a nice game to beat a solid, but not awesome florida team?

how is this win one for the history books? michigan fans seem to think this win somehow means something special. it's the capital one bowl! and yes, the gators would have rather won than lost, but you'd think the wolverines had just beaten ohio state, but that would be crazy because that doesn't seem to happen.

anyway, congrats on the win - it was a strong performance. but get over yourselves. the sec is still the best conference and florida will be just fine. stop acting like you won the bcs title. get a grip. you're not making your first bowl appearance in years like indiana or something.

get a grip losers. but nice win.

Gravatar Amazing game. Im still in rubbing my cousins face in it. (Gator fan). But what I thought this game would do is show just how overrated Time Tebow is like EVERY OTHER FLORIDA QB!! Spurrier, Danny Wuerffel, Rex Grossman ect. and Urbans other product Alex Smith. We DOMINATED Tebow, the true beast was harvin. He accounted for 242 of their 399 yards and over 50% of Tebows completetions. But he honestly sucked. 4.7 per attempt is horrible for any qb, 154 is weak and 51% completetion percentage is garbage. He is totally depended upon the his own threat to run or harvins. Once he couldnt throw his check downs or run either himself or harvin he went 2 for 8 for four yards and his last six passes were incomplete. Maybe im biased but Henne made him look like a joke. His three touchdowns were on short field, and two were blown coverage and a screen. Pure system like Andre ware and Henne should be a first rounder. Great game by all GO BLUE! what a way to send Lloyd out

Gravatar Wow, Michigan beat the 4th or 5th best team in the SEC. You're right, the Big Ten is now the undisputed master and overlord of college football. Jackass.

Gravatar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G...h? v=G54lXMNiJFw

Gravatar Joe, go find that crocodile on your back porch and kick it for me. Then take your Cajun ass and that swamprat your call your mother and drown yourselves in the shallows of the bayou.

Gravatar Congrats on an impressive win. I had a great New Year's in Ann Arbor. I was glad that Lloyd could go out a winner.

Gravatar Is Michigan's win over Florida their biggest achievement for this departing class? I mean they were routed last year, they never beat OSU, and I don’t think they won a Big Ten title.

Wow, this win is being dissected and applauded as if they had just won the national title. If Florida wins it's a nice way to look ahead to next year and a run at the title.

I view the UM win as a giant 'whew!' because it had already been such a horrid season. So I congratulate the team but to start with the Tebow is no good and the SEC is no good and Gators suck and all this nonsense is sad. Michigan played well and sent their mediocre, yet very nice, coach out on a high note.

Is this victory that massive in the annals of UM football? How sad is that. I guess it's a nice way to start thinking about next year, though the big 10 is the worst conference save for OSU and maybe Illinois if they don't travel west. Have some perspective, people. It's not the Rose bowl or the National title. They played out of their minds and won a good game. Let's move on...

Gravatar 1) You all did NOT dominate Tebow. YOU DOMINATED THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE (both sides of the ball really, but in this case on defense).

2) Tom Brady, let alone Chad Henne wouldn't have been able to do much better than Tebow on those last two drives (most of the game actually), given the amount of time he had to set his feet and throw with a defender constantly in his face.

Get your damn facts straight, don't go talking like Tebow shouldn't be allowed to try out for your scout team. If he had had any reasonable amount of time in the pocket he would have probably played just like he did the whole season, like a great player.

In the end, I really don't think there's any difference between Michigan and Florida people (academically and football/sportswise) other than the climate and the school colors, so don't start acting like a bunch of shmucks when you win your first bowl game in 4 years.

Gravatar MICHIGAN IS THE BEST PROGRAM EVER!!!!!!!! Seing Urban Crier and Tim Te BLOW go down in Flames made my year. Especially when Urban Crier Talked smack last year about no repeat match up Between Ohio State and Michigan in the Title Game they won. You homo Urban CRIER!! Percy Harvin should transfer that Florida bunch are not Team PLAYERS!!! They are everthing that is wrong with College Football Just look at the Florida Blogs it tells it all!!
