Gravatar What's that feeling? It might be happy...

Maybe if I watch it again, the happy gets stronger.

Excellent work!

Gravatar But he looks so poised!

Gravatar You'd think an emu would be faster - they have those long legs and everything.

Gravatar I slept much better last night knowing that we were not the worst team in college football

Gravatar awesome. on sportscenter they said that the ND Oline was a sieve. fitting, i thought.

Gravatar I just keep hearing Kramer screaming "poise, poise, poise!" at Miss Rhode Island.

Gravatar I'd like to see a still of Lou Holtz's face there at the end

Gravatar Amazing.

Gravatar are we not calling him jimmah anymore?

Gravatar But you know, he sure picked up a lot of confidence on his receptions yesterday.

Gravatar Darko: that was the most poised unforced fumble ever. And the poise he showed in trying to cover the ball.

Gravatar That makes me smile. A lot. Especially that blindside hit.

Unrelated: I am watching Bengals/Browns, and Braylon just beat Leon Hall for a TD. How am I supposed to feel about that?

Gravatar So at 1:14, do they each get 1/4 of a sack??? I don't think I have EVER seen a quadruple sack before....!

Gravatar As a Browns fan, I felt pretty OK about it. I hate it when players I like (Woodley, Hall, Perry, Tuman, etc.) go to NFL teams I hate.

Gravatar in this instance we are calling him by his full name as a parallel to last year's "Brady Quinn for Heisman" video.

Gravatar From today's Free Press:

“Just because of the way the season started, I could sense through what I was watching on TV that my friend was in pain,” Crowe said when meeting with the media after Saturday’s game. “I just thought I would take his mind off things and I started teasing him about it and he said ‘Get up here.’ “

I cannot wrap my head around this, still.

Gravatar I feel bad for Pickle Boy. No one can say he sucked since he didn't have a line to protect him. Hopefully next year he'll prove he is an over hyped recruit when he can't use his o-line as an excuse.

Gravatar I don't think I have ever seen 4 people sack a guy at one time. What a crappy O-Line! No wonder that other kid bailed on them for NIU; it wasn't that he wanted more playing time, it was because he didn't wanted to be maimed. I hope Claussen has that insurance... AFLAC!

Gravatar The quadruple sack was definitely my favorite part. Hilaaaaaarious!

Gravatar That's some quality maiming, boys.

[/Wiggum]

Gravatar Great clip, A- grade. Straight up A if you add in a clip of Chuck Weis announcing that "We feel Jimmy Clausen gives us the best chance to win" at the beginning.

Gravatar Ouch...see you guys next week!

Gravatar screw Reagan

Gravatar There should be no joy in beating a cripple... but what if you really really hate the cripple? I'm just disappointed that Clausen left the game early. Probably had turf in his 'gine.

Gravatar Brian --- Can we please ditch Reagan. If I have to look at him each time I come here, I might stop.

Seriously.

Gravatar I'm with Badger Tracker -- this is now a great tradition, but you need the ironic Weis quote at the beginning. Last year's "We'll do our talking tomorrow" was classic...

Gravatar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E...h? v=E9yyzGs83aw

Gravatar Fred, that Homer clip is awesome. But it's not even close to the Tracy Morgan clip on your homepage. That might be the funniest thing I've ever seen.

All - go to Fred's homepage and watch the Tracy Morgan clip.

Gravatar I looked for, and could not find, videos of Weis' pregame pressers. Help is appreciated.

Gravatar Holy shit, I love that Tracy Morgan clip. I love it so much I want to take it behind the gym and get it pregnant. I challenge anyone to find a video of him online where he isn't drunk and/or high.

Gravatar Don't forget (Detroit native, ND alum) Jerome Bettis:

"Iiiiiiiiiiii HATE
...Michigan."

According to the wags who post at the "Blue Gray Sky" blog, Weis will be bringing Gerry Faust back for a motivational speech somewhere along the line.

Not to keep beating a dead horse (until we prove there's another kind of horse we can actually beat), but WTF?

Gravatar It was fun watching the game up in the Notre Dame section. By then end of the game the two ND students in front of us were reduced to cheering sarcastically when ND broke into positive yardage overall.

Gravatar We should put Ronald Reagan on Rushmore...great american!

Gravatar Okay, I am going to second or third the suggestion that Brian remove the picture of Reagan from the masthead. I can foresee some very nasty, non-football-related back-and-forth comments (man, that's a lot of hyphens!), and I know that this site is one of many I like because it's just about college football. (And, on occasion, Notre Dame. Zing!)

Gravatar Look,

I will not discuss any political point of view, but I will say this and take a very neutral perspective: if you would stop coming to a place as wonderful as mgoblog because there's a picture of Regan, you might have a problem. That's all I'm sayin, and I'd feel the same way if it was a picture of Bill Clinton and conservatives were bitching. It's not about the politics, it's about the block M.

Gravatar boooooooooo Reagan

Gravatar Also, it would help if I spelled it right. I rule.

Gravatar No, please leave Reagan up on the masthead, because it is truly is funny. Almost a funny as Hillary.....

Gravatar No love for Gerald Ford?

Gravatar That's the meanest thing I've ever seen. Shame, shame on you.

The irony is funnier than the actual video.

Gravatar Brian, to make everyone happy, you should put a picture of Tracy Morgan up on the masthead.

Gravatar Photoshop Reagan into a Michigan hat or something. Keep him up, I got a good laugh out of it.

Gravatar When do the "Honk If You Sacked Clausen" bumper stickers go on sale?

Gravatar GBE: Out of stock already.

Gravatar Did anyone notice if Crable was in the D-line rotation? I thought he played linebacker all game, but my friend said he was at DE for a lot of plays.

Gravatar Notre Shame....Returning to glory every four years upon the hiring of a new "savior" coach. Keep waking up those echoes Irish. HAHAHAHA.

Gravatar If I remember correctly, Crable spent most of the game at LB, but did line up as a DE occasionally.

Gravatar I posted this on the ND site. Is it too harsh?
Notre Shame....Returning to glory every five years upon the naming of a new head coach. Don't worry...You can print out those inspiring shirts when you hire a new coach in a couple of years and delude yourself into believing things will change. HAHAHAHAAH

Gravatar LOL at the Reagan pic! Well done.

(It looks the joke went over a lot of peoples' heads. Hint: it has to do with the 1984 presidential election campaign.)

Gravatar fotodog : I remember Peyton Manning getting chased downfield by the entire UF defensive line in one game; there was Peyton on the left of the screen, then a line of four guys in blue jerseys, then a lot of empty grass, then the Vols' offensive line. Of course, even Peyton at his most panicked never looked anything like the emu; dear god, what a massacre.

Gravatar Michigan fans better enjoy morning, because after this coming Saturday, it will be "Mourning in Ann Arbor Again"

Gravatar ^^^

Homonyms: the last refuge of a scoundrel.

As for the Reagen bit, I don't think the joke went over anyone's head. That was a fairly seminal speech/slogan in American politics, even if it wasn't exactly true.

Gravatar Good to see that there is now a "yakety sax" tag on Mgoblog. May we have the privilege of seeing the "Anthony Morelli For Heisman" highlight reel next week.

Also, I do so love the Reagan Derangement Syndrome that your new banner has triggered. Maybe you should've gone with a RETURN TO GLORY theme instead? Or at least made a reference to Ronnie's role as the Gipper in "Knute Rockne All-American?"

Gravatar JMD:
Honestly, yes. And unnecessary. And low-class.

Gravatar The "Morning" reference is not lost.

However, honoring the man who began the gutting of industrial America while calling it "morning in America" is the kind of dumb shit domers would dream up.

All I remember from the Reagan administration was the 24% unemployment while growing up in Pittsburgh. Morning, my ass.

Reagan can eat a dick.

Gravatar hey, what's doing w/ hemingway?

Gravatar I love the fact that the bottom line ticker shows the tidbit about demetrius jones transferring a few times during the video. Good stuff.

Notre Dame Sucks. Thanks for taking all of the heat off Michigan. I am looking forward to the next 5 weeks of 'whats wrong with Notre Dame' stories.

Gravatar Brian,

May I suggest a "Notre Dame: Return to Training Camp" t-shirt?

Gravatar Cock D, Steelers fan?

Gravatar I can't believe all the idiots complaining about Reagan. "Morning in America" is the perfect quote and there are people concerned about attribution? Lighten up.

Gravatar About Reagan: Who cares? It's a damn banner on an awesome blog. It will be gone in a week. For some, it's funny. For some, it's not. The same thing goes for a lot of your comments. Nobody says "delete his comment" because it was a failed joke. Deal with it and shut up already.

About Crable: Crable did line up at "DE" on occasion, but no more so than last year. They always move him around. In Brian's Michigan season preview, he even lined up at DT (against Notre Dame, I think) and ended up with a sack.

Gravatar Reagan is the man.

Gravatar the joke is going over some heads obviously. please explain for the dolts

Gravatar Great clip !! God I miss Benny Hill!! Notre Dame would make him proud...Damn they suck !!!

Gravatar Reagan's ok to see, but that sunrise on the snow is fantastic. I'm stuck in the south (thus the name, RN=RedNeck). Dang, I miss the Michigan fall and winters.

Keep the Reagan picture Brian, your blog, your setup. No one will stop coming, you're too good.

Gravatar I'd have thought we could deal with Reagan-as-masthead despite any one of our personal political leanings, especially since (as Brian noted explicitly) politics have nothing to do with it.

And it is funny, FTR.

Gravatar Born a few years after Reagan was elected (someone mentioned the 1984 campaign, I was born in 88). Anyone want to explain the "morning" thing and the picture?

Gravatar Cranky left-wing defense of the Reagan banner: "Morning Again in America" turned out to be an empty slogan and led to a second term rocked by scandal, near-impeachment, as well as added hostility to labor and American industry, hurting the state of Michigan more than anyplace else.

Depending on the next two months, "Morning Again in America" for Michigan may be a similarly empty feel-good moment followed by massive screw-ups, employee incompetence, public shame, and pain in the state of Michigan.

For now, I'm embracing the soft lighting and good feelings. Four more years, etc.

Gravatar The banner is beautiful in all ways.

Gravatar Look, I get the "Morning in America" allusion. I'm not keen on invoking the inaccurately-mythologized Reagan as an icon of heroic resurgance, even ironically--but that's a generational/partisan thing and not something I'd worry about here.

I'm just sayin'... politics aside, the guy played "the Gipper" in "Knute Rockne, All American." People called him "The Gipper" for the rest of his life. It's the end of Notre Dame week. No Gipper (be it Reagan or George Gipp) for me this week, thank you.

Gravatar I tune in here because, well Brian, you and your bloggers are a hoot. The Reagan stuff is SO appropriate. And for those of us who were 22-ish when Reagan got elected, we remember the positive CHANGE that people felt...bloggers can disagree, but Carter was no-wheres-ville and what's CLEARLY worse, he was rooting for the SEC.

I think ND's only hope is to play nuns. They are more focused, and probably play better defense. Certainly with the rulers and stern looks they would have made a better offensive line.

Gravatar Why is there crying about the banner? there's nothing political about it, this isn't a place of politics, and if you don't bring your politics here...particularly over something so benign as the picture on the banner...then there's nothing whatsoever to cry about. everyone check your politics at the door and there's nothing political to discuss.

On another tip: getting back to the Mallett vs. Chad discussion that went on yesterday someone talked about Chad being just good enough to raise expectations but not good enough to win the big one...so not true...Chad has played good enough to win the Rose Bowl against Texas, he's played good enough to beat OSU all three times he's played them, and though it wasn't his grandest game, he did play good enough to beat Nebraska. The common denominator in all of those losses was a suck ass defense...one that couldn't hold the leads that the offense staked them to...one that couldn't get a crucial stop to save it's freakin' life...one that couldn't hold up it's end of the equation. He has had a very good career which should have been highlighted with some notable wins, but it being the team game that it is, he didn't get the help from the other side of the locker room that any and every consistently successful team has.

Gravatar Yakety Sacks is great.

Could someone now please put the Offensive highlights (along with a few D) to "Thunderstruck"?

Thanks!

FBD3

Gravatar Now that Weis's reputation as a "genuis" is gone forever, maybe it's now time to re-evaluate the belief that Kirk Ferentz "gets more out of his players than any other coach in the Big Ten."

Gravatar Does Mike Hart's amazing ability to make something out of nothing mask the fact that our run blocking is very frequently providing no real holes to run through?

My seats were way up on row 95 in the south end zone so maybe I was just too damn far away to see clearly, but it seemed to me that most run blocking resulted in a sticky mess of players at the LOS that Hart had to pick his way through. He can never build up a real head of steam because he has to spend most of his time moving laterally to find a seam.

Is this a natural by-product of zone blocking? Or is it a reflection of less-than-stellar work by the O-line? Or are we doing less than we could to spread the defense out more?

If nothing else, if Hart watches the video of USC running the ball against Nebraska, he'll get jealous of those gigantic holes the USC backs had to run through. He could put up 200 yards in a half if he had those holes.

Gravatar Look, I'm as happy as the next Michigan fan that we stomped ND...but we stomped a bad ND. I have never feared PSU, but I sure wish we were playing northwestern next week...

Gravatar Does anyone know where I can find video of the surreal Carr-Crowe postgame press conference?

Gravatar Hey not to nitpick here, but is the song playing in the videos actually "Yackety Sax?" I'm pretty sure I remember listening to a rousing chorus of Yakety Sax during elementary PE class, and it was a little more jazzy and actually had a voice that said "Yakety Sax, don't do that." This ones a little more goofy sounding, which is perfect for the videos. Someone let me know if I'm wrong though.

Gravatar I think the poor blocking was due in part to playing a 3-4 team. It's tougher for linemen to get out on linebackers than it is to block 4 down linemen, which is the design of the 3-4.

That being said, I have been disappointed by the run blocking at other times this year. Even the left side of the line has been disappointing.

Gravatar 83,

You're thinking of "Yakety Yak" by the Coasters, and it's "Yakety yak, don't talk back."

Gravatar 83,
I think you're referring to Yakety Yak.

Subtle difference, obviously, but different songs.

Gravatar I knew someone(s) would come through with the goods. Thanks, guys.

Gravatar The Carr-Crowe presser is on M-Live
http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/ ...riend_russ.html
(note: it is the full presser, so it take a while for the thing to get really good.)

Now I might not be a fan of Ronnie, but damn, not every depiction of the man is political nor do we need a debate of what "Morning in America" actually meant to America. Just take the damn joke.

Gravatar Thanks Aaron.

Gravatar Sweet. Russel Crowe Fightin Round the World came to kick some Irish arse!

Headline:

South Park Cripple Fight Turns Bloody as Fightin Round the World's Crowe Bashes Skulls. Picture of Timah (Jamison) crushing Jimmah (Claussen) needed!

Gravatar what i wouldn't give to join russell crowe and lloyd for a few beers.

i'm still astonished by that relationship. during the entire press conf when crowe was talking, i just kept looking for the "E!" logo on the bottom corner.

Gravatar I'm looking forward to future Carr pressers featuring random Hollywood celebs. If Catherine Zeta-Jones isn't present after next week's game against Penn State, I will be thoroughly disappointed.

Gravatar We want Scarlett! We want Scarlett!

Gravatar If you are into Chinese mystique and also Lloyd won't want none other than a "Michigan Woman", Lucy Liu might be the answer.
