people there.

I have an unproven theory which I would be interested in testing. There are two aspects to it. The first is that all the webdesigners who recommend that people provide tiny little search boxes are wrong. What people want is great big huge ones that run all across the page and where you can stick in a lot of search terms, instead of just one word. (At least before things are hidden). I know that this is what I want, and I hate the tiny boxes, but perhaps my tastes are unusual in this? I don't
think so, but would like to test it...

The other aspect is that the people who are most likely to be interested in your technical stuff are also most likely to be too busy to do any 'idle browsing'. They don't want to click through and explore your site. What they want is a big fat search window, and the instructions 'type in whatever you are interested in and we will see if I have ever written anything about it'.

If you try this experiment please let me know if things improve.

re: duck typing -- in my corner of the world, what I usually want to know when I want to know 'if something is a sequence' is 'can I slice it'? So __getitem__ is necessary but not sufficient for me.

thanks for writing,
Laura Creighton
