Perhaps you should consider 7Zip as a replacement for WinRar. It's opensource with a clean interface.

I've tried 7Zip (I use it at work). The interface *isn't* as nice as winrar.

In addition to SPE as a Python editor, I often use SciTE (the WBD version from http://gisdeveloper.tripod.com/s...com/scite.html)
, which runs on Windows (I also have a version running on my Mac). Unlike SPE or many other IDEs, it starts up in a few seconds, has tabs so you can edit multiple documents, checks your syntax, and can execute Python scripts (using more than one version of Python, if you wish).

Let me be more precise - it is the lack of drag and drop I miss from 7Zip.
Scite may be nice, but I generally find SPE starts up within seconds on my box and I'm *very* happy with it.
