My grandfather is only in his late 60's, and although he has a sharp mind and is a very intelligent mind (a mathematician, even) I doubt the toll life has taken on him over the decades leaves enough for him to tackle something so new. Maybe I am underestimating your grandfather, but from what you said, that he only just learned to use e-mail, I would think your description a little difficult to take without lots of "I'll just take that for granted" moments.
Well, he's been emailing for a while - but hasn't got much further. He claimed to get on fine with my explanation though.
