Hmm, you can't blame Raymond for that example 
I would choose the GNU MP (multiple precision arithmetic library), or whatever the Python library for it is.
One problem is that all these numeric types have specific math library functions you're supposed to use, like complex numbers need cmath and GNU MP has its own thing.
