While living in the UK for 2 years I noticed hardware prices are way higher than in Germany (I don't know other prices but I guess prices in the U.S and Japan are even lower). I just looked on one of germans most frequented (not cheapest though) hardware websites (alternate.de) and the cheapeast price is 0.28c/GB, 320GB disks for e.g. 96€.
Still the U.K price is not bad considering prices 1 year ago (or a month, a day, ... 
96 euros for 320GB is 30 euro cents per gigabyte, which is 38 US cents. Prices in the UK do tend to be higher though.
