If you are going with a vps, steer clear of tektonic.net. I am facing pretty much the same situation you are with them. My data is gone, the box has been down for over 2 weeks, and despite telling them to cancel my account, a new bill arrived yesterday.... *sigh*. I switched too www.diginode.net, but its a little to early to say wheather or not I can recommend them.

GoDaddy has VPS's for $40 a month or something like that running a new version of red hat. I think that you would have little troulbe setting up LAMP with that because yum is quite good. If however you are using py2.4 and mod_python then you will need to compile mod_python from source. Which I found very easy. Good Luck

I chose python-hosting.com, and they've been reliable, with great service. When I last changed, I did consider a virtual host, but didn't want the extra admin work for the small amount of additional flexiblity it would have given.

I would take a look at the company that we host our website with.
They have many website hosting plans; most of which will suite many people's needs and they now seem to be offering free domain name registration with all of their website hosting packages.
Corporate Internet Solutions is the website hosting company that we at Juggle It All use for our website hosting;
http://www.rsdarkness.com/
Is their website hosting company website.
I hope this helps,
Max
