This would be a great tool for our consultants and clients. Since I do both .Net and Python, I've been looking for a good excuse to combine the two.
How is Resolver different from Excel + VBA or OpenOffice Calc + PyUno? It seems like the same concept but perhaps easier to use.
Shane: with Resolver you insert code into the execution of your normal spreadsheet rather than externally interfacing to it. It makes a massive difference in practise. Resolver has some other cool features though. See the Resolverhacks.net site for some examples.

Say, would this be useful for analyzing performance results (i.e. like 100 numbers for every different setting)? Now I keep generating CSV files for them in Python... but what if I were to put it into the spreadsheet directly?
I've worked for years in the oil+gas engineering area. It is quite common for us that spreadsheets to start out as a "one-off" application to test some new calculations, or code the equations in the latest paper and see what they can do. The problems that come later down the line when experimental spreadsheets turn into critical production tools are drastic enough that some shops ban the use of Excel for these purposes, potentially loosing out on new technologies that could have been a help.
If Resolver can deal with the "Authentication, Auditing, and Versioning" problem, while being usable by current high-functioning Excel users, and maintaining Excel's visualization tools (primarily XY scatters with semi-log (x or y) and log-log plots), this tool could have a lot of customers. And the ability to "upgrade" into a web application would also be heaven.
