"I wonder what the best Python UI toolkit to use for the Eee is?"
PyGTK, of course. I think Python is there because some eee apps use PyGTK in the first place.

The biggest problem I've had with my Eee so far has been the fact that with Google Reader, the list of blogs you're subscribed to is pretty much off the bottom of the screen with no scrollbar - and thus unreachable. It would probably be easier to use if Google made the pure-HTML phone version easily available...
Still, my friend from New York is coming to London with my XO next week, so I'll be able to do a side-by-side comparison

PyQt and PyGtk are both installed - and by preference I'd definitely choose Qt over Gtk. There's a bunch of other modules installed as detailed here.
I've already done a bunch of pyglet-based work, and have definitely acclimatised to the keyboard. I find I can happily type away whilst staring out the window of a train
Google Maps also suffers terribly from a small screen

I think you made the right choice if you're just looking for a general purpose device. I got the XO through the G1G1 program here in the US, and I'm not very happy with it. If I had more time to tinker, I think it would be more enjoyable, but it is not ready as an everyday browsing device (the main reason I wanted it). Didn't look at the Eee to see that it's really more of what I was after.
If you're still looking for an XO to play around with, let me know.
