If you want to read >and write< NTFS from OS X, I've found that a combination of MacFUSE (http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/) and NTFS 3G (http://www.ntfs-3g.org/) works well.

I *thought* MacFUSE was a commercial product - but it isn't. I'll definitely be exploring those projects.
