Gravatar I did notice that the News at 10 on BBC1 spent most of the programme the other day, telling us that young master 3rd-in-line was out there killing anyone who might try and stop the heroin trade (at least I think that's what they were saying - I tend to hit the Mute button until the weather comes on). Then the following day they spent most of the programme indicating in gestures and serious faces that he was to come back to Britain where he'd be an easier target for terrorists.

Gravatar i'm conflicted...on one hand, good for him for fulfilling his military service and yes, i am against the war in iraq, but even saying that, there is this perverse part of me that would have loved to see the bush twins (that sounds so nasty) join the army and support their daddy's war...the conflict in afghanistan where your young prince-third-in-line is, is a situation that should never have been allowed to happen, but then again, we've never been good at long term foreign policy.
(i know, i'm babbling...on meds again, i think i should take a nap)

Gravatar How overjoyed the ranks must have been to see him. Go.

Gravatar The British expats were cock-a-hoop at the news, so we sold them little union flags for $12.50, which was pretty good value at short notice. I can't fault him for killing Terry Taliban, their regime was a pimple on a verruca.

Gravatar He joins the army, but there's one thing missing, he's not seen any action. So complicated arrangements are made just so he can go an shoot at peasants in their dirt poor country. Whether they are Taliban or not Mr G.B. it's their country not ours, and I can fault him for shooting anyone. It's not his struggle, it MAY one day be ours but it will never be his so he should keep out of it.
Anyway, bulldozing into a collapsing unstable country with tanks and guns and bombers isn't going to help and the people they are shooting can't ALL be Taliban, because if they were then they'd have a mandate and there'd be no problem. You can't blame Afghans for British heroin addicts, why don't we shut off the demand instead of the supply?
During the Falklands, Andrew happened to be in the in the Royal Navy at the time, so he just got shipped off with the rest and took his chances.

OK I'll shut up now.

Gravatar The whole thing was a PR exercise - call me cynical, but I think this will do more harm than good to all concerned.

Gravatar I bet Tom and Dick are still out there, carrying the white man's burden. It's all part of the pretense that Britain is still imperial Great Britain.

Gravatar Well call me a silly old woman. Just try! But I think apart from his nose he's lovely. Think what he's coped with in his life. Be fair!

Gravatar Were the weapons guided by the RAF remotely? Like some robo-turret thingy?

Nigthclubs are truly a better investment, as they increase sexual promiscuity and hedonism and cause money to be spent.

Gravatar Pat: He came from a dysfunctional family, so he kills people?

Wait a minute! Isn't that the excuse poor people use? What a normal boy he is.
