Sorry. I don't really understand URLs I hope you get this anyway.
I am now concerned because I have ingested a progression of up to 6 primal defense tablets so far. I started with 1 the 1st day, 2 the second, etc.
Am I forever going to be harmed by this? I have celiac sprue and have been trying to load my intestines with probiotics. I am almost halfway through the regimine but don't think I'll continue until I get more answers.
Please respond.

Hi Gayle,

I'm sorry, but I don't give health advice here. I would suggest you talk to a registered dietician who isn't into alternative medicine, IOW an ordinary one. Talk to your doctor too. Good luck.

Hello, I am in the same place as Gayle, concerning the safty of this product my Integrative Doc sold me. I garden organically and feel certain that my food is not sterile and that on lettuce, etc., soil organisms enter my system. Like her I have no idea what to do now. I am not sure it would be helpful to speak to a mainstream dietician. They just speak the party line, only know what they are exposed to and from the food they turn out in hospitals, may know less than I do about nutrition. If there is no research.... how can we know? Hiw did Jini find out about what the European Union is thinking... it is a real risk for people who are trying to improve their health. Everyone has their hand in our pockets for their own benefit. Sad state of affairs.... Doreen

Hi Doreen,

I recommend a normal dietician or MD because that is where the research is. The type of so-called "research" that integrative practitioners use is far from scientific or reliable, since it is nearly always produced as a form of marketing by supplement companies, but it is disguised as "research". It's a rather big problem. A dietician or MD has no money involved and won't be trying to give you a diagnosis that will require you to buy some supplement or pill from them. Even if you really do need them or some drug because of a condition you may have, they won't be the ones selling them or making a profit from their sale. If they are, then run the other way. Many places the laws forbid them from selling such products, which is your insurance that they have no vested interest in always (strangely enough!) always finding out that you happen to have a condition which they (fortunately enough!) just happen to have the right supplement which will cure you, as long as you keep buying it from them. That's the way these scams usually work. You happen upon some website (like the two largest alternative health websites), take an online nutrition analysis test, and lo and behold, it always (regardless of how you answer) will tell you that you need their supplements. The FDA and FTC occasionally try to stop these scams, but they just change the name of the product, market it a bit differently for awhile, and keep on collecting money from people.

Hi there,

Also concerned because of recent ingestion of this product. However, not as skeptical of the alternative world. I was wondering if you knew of any articles that cited non-biased research that have different conclusions than the ones you present here. I'm not favoring alternative quacks but I think it's valuable to be skeptical of western extremists as well. Just hoping to get a more balanced idea what the different opinions are on this product. Do you know of any? Thanks

I think it is good to investigate the claims. I will switch just because it is in question and there are good alternatives out there. However it is very problematic to attack alternative medicine. It is dangerous and slippery road for sure, since many prescription drugs have harmed and killed patients as well. In a democracy people should have the freedom and right to choose the modes of healing that they wish.

Saudia, it's not so much a question of whether adults should have the freedom to choose (yes, they should), but whether manufacturers, promoters, and practitioners should have the freedom to make unfounded claims based on shakey evidence or anecdotes. It's a matter of ethics and truth in advertising.

Thanks for the info. This is very interesting and I will need to conduct additional research on HSO's. I've taken PDU many times and am healthy as a horse. It was pretty benign actually.. didn't do much for me either way. This is the case with most herbal remedies in my experience: designed to do nothing to your body, otherwise the manufacturers might get in trouble! :-0

You are right to point out that people LOVE this product. I have a friend who got a nasty intestinal bug after living in South America for a year and NOTHING worked for her after she got back including antibiotics, traditional probiotics, etc. She tried PD on a whim and it actually cured her. I will be sure to point her in the direction of this research though so she can make sure all is well inside her body now.

I'm personally just as skeptical of the skeptics and don't know you or your references from Adam, but I'm not blind. I will follow up and research HSO's to see what the heck is going on.

Thanks for sharing your research and congrats for whatever crazy strings you pulled to come up so quickly at teh google...

Aloha,

Brian
