I actually find this guy's prose so boring that I can't really pay attention long enough to glean his thesis, so I'll take it on faith that his arguments are as bad as you say. But, while trying (and failing) to get through one of his points, though, I did see something that bothered the crap out of me:

"Human consciousness is merely an epiphenomena..."

Isn't "epiphenomena" plural? Shouldn't he have used "epiphenomenon"?

Apologies to those sociology majors out there (that's you, HA) but WHY does he/the Times think that we really want "a [so-called] rational sociological reason" for EVERYthing that happens?
