Gravatar Its apparent that part of the problem at Sevmash (the shipyard where the work on the Nakhimov is being done) is that there is a shortage of qualified labor. According to this Sevmash press release just published today, http://www.sevmash.ru/?id=4366&lg=ru , they are advertising for workers as far away as Kursk and Bryansk. The workers they get don't even have to be qualified, Sevmash promises to provide the training.

Sevmash is also the shipyard producing the Type 955 Borey SSBN. Allegedly, the Russians plan on producing eight. There is one in the water and two more on the ways, IIRC. Recoring the Nakhimov has to compete with that for qualified labor.

Also, Sevmash is renovating the Gorshkov for India.

Sounds like they have an overfull plate.

Gravatar Plenty of money and no one skilled to work. The exact opposite condition of Russian shipbuilding in 1992.

Gravatar Something to keep an eye on... we may be in that same situation in a few years, the way the yards are working...
