Interestingly RAAF C-17's have gained landing clearance, and in fact just last night delivered 2 UN Helicopters they picked up from South Africa. They have also already completed at least one supply trip distributing 31 tonnes of goods.

Financial aid over "goods" is always important and some time ignored, many regions of Burma were not as heavily effected by the storm why send things when they can be purchased supporting the local economy, thankfully many lessons were learned from the 2003 Tsunami, in which the local economy that wasn't effected was devastated by the tremendous amount of handouts.

Just to clarify on reading the full release, the helicopters were flown to Thailand, and the Tsunami was of course in 2004.
