Gravatar Well, perhaps my website surfing skills are sub-par, but the Wharton website (http://www.wharton.upenn.edu/) makes no mention that I can find of a recent visit by Patrick Byrne. Surfing produced nothing, nor did the Wharton search engine. Perhaps his appearance was routine and not worth noting.

In any event. It would be very nice if somebody at Wharton came forward and gave us a synopsis of the speech, particularly as to whether there were any material references to OSTK 1Q results.

A transcript would be even better.

An inquiring mind wants to know.

There is an old proverb the origins of which escape me: 'No matter how far down the wrong road you've traveled, just turn back'

Gravatar It was elsewhere at Penn.

Gravatar I'm sure his speech, which was at a conference on microfinance, had a lot to do with the first quarter. Worldstock, maybe. (And they put out a release on that April 22, after his Penn appearance). Why would a microfinance audience care about the quarterly results of a US e-tailer? Seriously. He couldn;'t have been at at Penn to talk about that, IMHO.

The funny thing is that e-tailing is, for most people, a really easy business to make money at. There's not another public e-tailer of any size that doesn't. And that's been true since 2004 or so. So if Pat would just shut up and make the donuts, the donuts would get made. Since he won't...
