This is a great story since it shows just how the NSS fantastists block out reality. They start by assuming that Gary Weiss is Mantanmorelad, which has already been denied by Jimbo Wales. Then they point out that Mantanmoreland and 207.45.43.68 are the only ones to edit the Wiki for St. Joseph's Church (New York City), and conclude that means they are the same person. 207.45.43.68 is a DTCC address.
But 207.45.43.68 is an active Wiki editor. Mantanmoreland writes mostly about churchmen and churches, and also about Gary Weiss. 207.45.43.68, mostly about Polish heraldry and Polish military leaders, but also Physics and computers. These are not the same two guys.

He's created a conundrum for himself with this one. He points out that it's possible those other 207.45.43.68 edits were someone else. That's an idea he rejects when it comes to some of his previous "proofs". (I won't even go into the misapplication of technical data)
I think he believes his own B.S. If you exclude all contradictory evidence, you can believe anything. Certain investors on certain message boards do it all the time.
He confuses cause and effect. He thought by sending me tracking bug laced emails about Gary he was "uncovering" something when I forwared them to him. He refuses to believe he CREATED that channel of communication, not "uncovered" it. Same thing on Wikipedia. He thinks he uncovered some kind of cabal when it looks like he has created a group of people who stick together to ward off his creepy cyberstalking and obsessive sock puppets.
Byrne has labeled him an "investigative journalist". While there is little doubt that's the reason Byrne hired him, he's more like a less sharp Inspector Clouseau. Picks up a glass and sees fingerprints all over it, oblivious they are his own.

Scip about Judd's matchmaking. I bet that the Polish IT guy at the DTCC only checked up on Mantanmoreland because of ASM. And then decided to give Mantanmoreland a hand on a church story.
One problem you might have in reading Judd is that "proven" is jargon and doesn't mean what you think it means.
My profile on ASM contained unvetted baloney from a tout at one of my perpetual motion machine scams. Do you think Judd believes that I wrote promotional material for a paid basher organization that posts its website on a free hosting service?

I think that it is indicative of Judd's (and his boss's) malice -- in every sense of the word -- that he would publish an outright lie while knowing that it is a lie. Both I and the DTCC have denied the total rubbish that he posted on his website.
Similarly he continues to publish the lie that I am this "Mantanmoreland" long after it was, again, denied by both myself and Jimbo Wales of Wikipedia.
Since ASM is an extension of Overstock.com, operated with the blessing and open and enthusiastic support of its CEO, I think that what you have here goes clearly beyond ethical issues. Of course corporate ethics is clearly never a consideration for Patrick Byrne, in earning the merit badges required to gaint he sought-after title of "America's worst CEO."

John-what "Paid Basher Site"? Was it by chance FAKE? I published that site years ago, and the sheep still fall for it.

Gary, I see on Judd's blog that your IP address proves you fathered Anna Nicole Smith's baby. Wow. But thinking back... your trip to India... Scipio's IP proving he works for Star Magazine... Sam Antar's IP proving Hugh Heffner was another of his famous cousins... it's all starting to make sense.

"Similarly he continues to publish the lie that I am this "Mantanmoreland" long after it was, again, denied by both myself and Jimbo Wales of Wikipedia."
Not only that but it was denied by "Mantanmoreland" himself and the other editor "SlimVirgin" who apparently knows who he is (or at least who he isn't). Not to mention I have pointed out his conclusion was ultimately reached based on the fact he edits your article and lives in NYC (with 8M other people).
"I think that it is indicative of Judd's (and his boss's) malice -- in every sense of the word -- that he would publish an outright lie while knowing that it is a lie."
True. That's emphasized in a big way by him buying a Google ad for your name but not for naked short selling or anything he claims to be fighting. Not that malice is difficult to demonstrate. Especially in his annonymous days and his sockpuppets.
The fact that the edit by the DTCC staffer came just days after Byrne came out with his Nostradaumus-like prediction of "you ain't seen nothing yet", makes one wonder if this was an intentional set-up.

It all has a similar MO (although more sophisticated) to the old "scamp2k" reporter smears in Florida.
"Do you think Judd believes that I wrote promotional material for a paid basher organization that posts its website on a free hosting service?"
It's impossible to tell his lies from his actual beliefs, IMO. They may be one in the same after so many years. He'll probably give you the illogical "if it's not true, why are you so upset" routine. The paid basher thing was so obviously a spoof it's hard to imagine anyone being fooled by it. But then again, the paid basher "confession" letter has been going around the net for like 7 years now and people still fall for it.

Wow Star, you are something. Your writing reminds me of Roy Rivenburg. Judd has attributed the FAKE site to me, based on the ravings of a Canadian perpetual motion machine promotion.
Scip I think it's pretty amazing that Overstock is now buying adverts to help people "leaning about" Gary Weiss. I see the claim that Weiss is working at the DTCC is still up even after it was debunked. As is the debunked Gary is Mantanmoreland story. I think the main result of this campaign will be to move copies of Born to Steal and Wall Street vs America.
Oh Scip and what do you think about working on an overstalk blog? Full of screen shots of ASM fantasies and such.

A long time Motley Fool poster posted the confession of a basher letter with some of his own modifications as a lark back in March of last year. It fooled those you would expect. Hannibal100 had this take. He didn't seem to get the joke either.
"Just reverse ET's "logic" to see how it holds up:
Imagine someone came on a message board and wrote a post saying, "I am a paid pumper, I am paid to say nice things about stock and drive the price up." then he came back later and said, "Naw, I was just kidding." Would that "proove" that there are not really paid pumpers?
How about this: imagine someone came on a message board and wrote a post saying, "I am into Internet child-porn." Then he came back later and said, "Naw, I was just kidding." Would that "proove" that there are not really folks into Internet child-porn?
Again, the vacuity of the reasoning of these guys is what tells me I am right about the bad guys.
That and, of course, the emails and disks....."

To return briefly to the subject of 'astroturf lobbying' as you did a short while back Gary, check this letter to the Dishonorable SEC Chair Christopher Cox.
This 'Coalition' of the 'Competitive Enterprise Institute' sure is kissing up to that corrupt corp call boy Christopher Cox who we have to call our SEC Chairman.I think fair competition is the last thing on this coalition's mind. They want gov handouts and unfair special treatment for their own corp whore scams in my opinion.
The link below besides showing the whole letter to Cox has a list of undoubtedly 'astroturf lobbying' groups who should be scrutinized for their corporate ties and lobbying activities.

Coalition Letter to SEC Chairman Christopher Cox on Proposed Shareholder Access Rule
by John Berlau and Fred L. Smith, Jr.
February 7, 2007
The Honorable Christopher Cox
Chairman, Securities and Exchange Commission
100 F Street, N.E.
Washington, DC 20549
Dear Chairman Cox,
In American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Pension Plan v. AIG, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals asked the Securities and Exchange Commission to clarify its rules for the exclusion of shareholder proposals related to an election. In the process of clarifying the commission’s rules, we urge you to reject any measure that would allow shareholders to nominate their own directors in company proxy materials.

Im a bit surprised how poorly the street has reacted to Byrne's lawsuit, almost caving-looks very, very bad. One can see more and more conmen like Byrne filing such suits- the required disciplining of Overstock wasnt performed after the pitiful Q4, and now it is really interesting to see the stock where it is, about 7 points higher than it should be.
Maybe Im impatient, but it seems to me that if one amateurish derelict businessman can wave huis fists, wall street stands to lose alot of money down the road.

John-if you enjoyed FAKE, you might like this April Fools antic of mine. It fetched me a half million hits AND an SEC contact about selling unregistered shares on the same day!

And I issued this PR and link the next day:
We would have thought the Buggs sound clip would have tipped them off.
Offshore Naked Short Fund Demand Crashes System
First day demand for the newly announced Offshore Naked Short Fund was so great that the website of ONS Financial, sponser of the find crashed due to excessive demand. The site recorded over three million hits within the first hour of its announcement.
(PRWEB) April 2, 2004 -- Management of ONS Financial, sponser of the first Naked Shorting hedge fund available to individuals, announced that first day demand was so great that its server was unable to cope with the traffic.
Andrew Kramer, spokesman for ONS financial said:"We were amazed at the incredible response to the announcement of this fund. We knew there would be pent up demand for a fund specializing in shorting OTC-BB and Pink Sheet stocks, but we failed to imagine how intense interest would be. While we maintain a state of the art dedicated server it was simply unable to cope with the volume. We were even forced to switch our e-mail to auto-respond to requests for information."
Kramer continued, "What particularly amazed us was that there was so much demand on the 1st of April. We think it might have had to to with the new NASD affirmative determination requirements that took effect, or perhaps because the internet penny stock attracts so many gullible investors who will believe damn near anything the shills tell them. Apparantly a lot of them also missed the easter egg link to http://onsfinancial.bravehost.co....com/
index.html. We would have thought the Buggs sound clip would have tipped them off.
Rumors were flying in the financial community yesterday that demands for ONS services were so great that the company might consider becoming listed on a US exchange. "It's certainly something we are looking at," said Kramer. "It's not everyday that a new fund attracts as many potential suckers we did yesterday."

I've been checking Omuse for activity. There had been about 2 non-system edits since last friday. Someone must have noticed because they removed the "Recent Changes" link so I can't monitor it anymore.
I do detect some activity tonight though. Hannibal and WriterJudd.
