I recall from earlier news footage she claimed some assets were her own. I'm wondering if she submitted any kind of financial disclosure or filing to the court to justify retention of the $2.5 million. Alternatively, I'm wondering if the feds allowed her the $2.5 in return for not contesting any of the seizures.

Everyone wants to hang Ruth Madoff, just because she enjoyed the ultra wealthy lifestyle. I smell mob hypocrisy and jealousy. I smell money grubbing greed by the have nots who dream of being filthy rich. Just because Ruth knew her husband was bringing home vasts amounts of money doesn't mean she knew it was ill gotten. And who among us would turn up our noses at the thought of being rich enough to own your own plane? What none of the callous critics will ever comprehend is the injury made to the families of criminals. And being hypocrites as they are, it is unlikely their stony hearts will ever understand that it is in fact painful to downsize to a "mere" $2.5 million, accompanied by social ostracizing and the ongoing threat of lawsuits. After all, the mob smells blood, and they love to see a rich person get stripped and impaled.
