Yeah, this is a strange deal.
That Southside campus would be great for the area, for the city it might even help lessen the effects of tuition deregulation but there's been some interesting buzz about the developers who have most of that land around the proposed campus site. I'm sure we'll be seeing that article in the Express News soon...

I think we should be worried about having a bunch of empty buildings on the Southside. Simply building the TAMU campus won't assure the funding to operate it. TAMU needs to commit to lobby as hard as it does for its flagship, and the legislature needs to commit to funding operations. The last think SA needs is a repeat of the TAMUK Pharmacy School.
Believe me, I want it built too. The demand is there.
