We have to start thinking of the bigger picture and cultivate our leadership for Texas. If Julian wants to be mayor, he has to go back to work in the community, do some Chamber of Commerce stuff and work his base. The mayor's office is a temporary gig given SA's term limit policy and weak mayor system. It would give Julian the exposure he needs to propel him to statewide office. In the next two cycles, Latino Democrats will have excellent candidates to put on the ballot if we do the groundwork now.

"word on the street..." doesn't exactly suffice as proof that anyone said anything...
also, the analysis here is way off... It seems that people (cincinnatus among them) have really short memories and forget that Julian polled approximately 48 percent in the last election, despite raising less than half the warchest of his opponent.
Even in a multi-candidate race, Julian would beat perez and gutierrez and make it to the runoff, and this time, would go on to win the whole thing. His base and grassroots appeal is simply too strong for the other two to overcome. The one advantage of running in '05 was expanding name recognition citywide... it would take hundreds of thousands for the other two to catch up in this department, and so they'd probably have to wait three or four election cycles...
With the added experience of building up a private law practice, Julian is simply in another league in terms of intelligence, leadership skills, and competence. And I think he'll do much better in the north-side and moderate districts (see Roddy Stinson's recent article). Those districts are starting to get a bit anxious about the free-wheeling, freespending Hardberger administration...

I have little doubt that Julian wrote that "analysis" about his supernatural intelligence and strength. I'm out there actually working Julian's so called "base" and the fact is that these boys are very unpopular. That attempt to fool voters with the Riverboat switch has left a very bad taste in people's mouths. Frankly, I am surprised at the nasty things people are saying about "those boys". I will be surprised if Joaquin gets re-elected and if Julian is to be elected to something else, he's going to have to wait for a generation to forget their first performance.
