Heard someone on Chris Duel's show say not to put much stock in the rumor. Apparently the Hardberger campaign braintrust is famous for trial balloons with ulterior motives.

This is the equivalent of beating the (small "b") bushes with a stick to see which potential candidates might be lurking in them.

I suppose it also has the effect of serving as an informal straw poll on the term to date, depending on who contacts Hizzoner with the following worried question:

"It isn't true, is it?"
