Don't be! That's a very competitive constituency. Still, she has a good chance.

SF didn't get my number one! There are two Shinners in Dublin South, neither with any chance of winning a seat. I voted Green (number one) and Labour (number two). A combination of belief and strategy! I don't want FF back in under ANY circumstances.

JG,
Aye, I'm voting in Dublin South East.
I'm not voting for the Stickie-Blueshirt axis of evil (even though Ruairi Quinn is impressive) and I'm certainly not voting for McDowell so that just leaves FF (2), SF, the Greens and some tree-hugger lad.
I'll probably vote FF 1-2. I might give Daithi Doolan a vote as well just to piss off Independent Newspapers!

Chris,
Could you elaborate please?
Sorry, I wasn't very clear. It's just that Nicky only missed out on being elected by something like 50 votes last time out. He would have been the obvious choice, living and working in the area his whole life etc. But then suddenly the middle class girl from Dundrum gets "parachuted" in! I'd be pissed off if I was Nicky.
In relation to Dublin South, any idea what possessed us to run two candidates?
None whatever. I was actually going to ask you the same thing! There's a girl called Sorcha NíCormaic and a guy called Séan Tracey. Ever heard of them?

There's a number of reasons Julius.
SF 21st Century have gone further than de Valera did when he left the party.
SF now have their noses in the parliamentary trough - and that has them hooked.
IRA Criminality is likely to cause the sunderng of the ties to physical force republicanism - at some point SF will have to choose between supporting the remnants of the IRA or staying parliamentary. With the lure of parliamentary power and the parliamentary trough it should be no contest. Look at where we stand in respect of policing in NI - signed up.
Ok, there was some bluster at the arrest of Arthurs, but really remarkably little fuss - in the past rent-a-mob would have on the streets.

You should have been more specific!
As regards this specific - I gave you a answer - "Politics is Complex".
There's no contradiction between my belief that there's no place in Government for Terrorists - Ferris, Kelly, McGuinness, Murphy etc and the thought that in a couple of generations when SF have clean hands they should have either morphed into a version of FF or even have united with FF.

I would also like to draw attention to David Vance's defence of his site (A Tangled Web) defending contemptuous remarks about the death (gored by a bull) of a SF councillor on the same day his own father died. When I asked him to condemn the contempt displayed to the councillor and his family, David accused me of being *mentally ill* He seems fit, nonetheless of being considered as a reasonable (not mentally ill) person twhose views should be sought on moral isues, including global warming, on the BBC. That's the reason we are being squeezed. The whole "the shinners are coming" did not spook the horses.
It was the prospect of a blue-shirt-stickie Axis of Evil that galvanised the FF voters.

"One thing for sure - the people of the ROI are not in the least bothered about NI and Unification."
You'd be surprised. The fact that it wasn't an election issue is because all the parties are pretty much in agreement about it.

I have to agree with Reg MR, the suggestion that he people of the 26 don't care about Unification or the people in the North is merely a Unionist wet dream.
All of the parties is the 26 and I mean all of them have declared their support for a 32 county republic, it wasn't an issue.
The problem for us down south is that we are seen as a one trick pony and that is a problem of our own making.
The Peace Process is settled, time for new strategy and ideas.

strategy
how about developing an orange pill that unionists can take orally,
( or anally in the form of a suppository ) which will have the cathartic effect of them waking up and announcing wildly
" Hey we're Irish FFS, WTF are we doing to our neighbours? For goodness sakes we need to take these peace walls down, and this border what's it for, its just so stupid "

But Chris - your party kept on and on and on about the big difference between them and the other parties - and why people should vote SF - was that SF were the ONLY party that actually MEANT what they said about unification!

Face it, voters in the republic have a totally different (partitionist?) take on politics than the NI electorate.
Where the constitutional question is settled in the republic SF are an irrelevance.
As someone said, if the political circumstances influences are so totally different each side of the border, what is the point of an 'all island party'?

My apologies to Chris - it was NR who had this to say:
"Hello Mary Lou and hello to the Dáil as well!
Good luck to Mary Lou McDonald who has been selected to stand as the Sinn Féin candidate in Bertie Ahern's Dublin Central constituency at the next 26 county election. Mary Lou's candidature provoked a bit of debate over at slugger but I think it is good to see Sinn Féin selecting a hard working representative who will hopefully become Sinn Féin's first female TD since the party began to fight Dáil elections again in the 1980s.
Nicky Kehoe, the previous candidate in the consituency and the person who nominated Mary Lou came within 74 votes of being elected last time out. I pay little attention to the fanciful theory expressed by some on Slugger that these votes will not be easily gained by Mary Lou. Mary Lou McDonald has a proven track record as a winner in Dublin. She will be able to rely on a core Republican vote and I am certain that she will be able to entice new voters who had not previously considered Sinn Féin as an option at the polls. I'm also confident that despite the fact that Sinn Féin often struggle for transfers, Mary Lou may well be able to attract a large number of Berite Ahern's transfers. Given the rise of Sinn Féin since the last Dáil election and the quality of the candidate, I firmly expect Dublin Central to be one of a number of Sinn Féin gains."

Wow what a result.
The meteoric rise is over.
This is the exact reason why some more rather reasoned people in the movement argued against the pursuit of electral politics as if it was the only thing that mattered.
The SF leadership have been straight on the issue...we are interested in power...its as simple as that.
Well now look what we have.
A party which pursued electoral politics and ditched its revolutionary credentials in the shameless pursuit of 'power'.
That project was always doomed to failure and now they are looking around for alternative strategies.
Too late. The lines have been crossed and SF have bought into the status quo lock, stock, and barrell. There is no going back now. The leaderships integrity has been damaged over the last few years and now their strategy has been dealt that first of many body blows.
Good luck.

Mad, I don't think we do. Anyway, that's a separate issue to the election result.
Garrett Fitz is right that southern elections have always been decided on bread and butter issues.
The inference that SF's poor performance means no-one down south cares about unity makes no sense as SF have never done well down there - (since the formation of FF at any rate).
As I say, all the southern parties are nominally pro unity anyway.
