I have to say that I think it's a mistake to view seats as belonging to the party.
It must be galling given that Burke has just been elected under the Sinn Féin label, but ultimately it is more democratic for individuals to be elected in their own right, rather than being totally dependent on party patronage.
It's also pointless to call for something when you know it won't happen.

Christy signed a pledge before going for election under the Sinn Féin banner.
Now while that pledge may not be legally bounding I believe it to be morally so.

ITS A BIT OF A SHOCK TO HEAR THAT SUCH A GREAT STALWART OF SINN FEIN HAS LEFT THE PARTY.
BUT SINCE THE LAST GENERAL ELECTION WHEN HE WAS OVERLOOKED IN FAVOUR OF MARY LOU MCDONALD, BURKE WAS PRETTY PISSED OFF BUT TO LEAVE NOW IS A SHOCK.

You should actually be calling a local by-election rather than demand that CB hands over the seat to the SF pary

Sinn Fein/The Adams Faction is full of careerists these days who couldn't give two shits about the history of their party or the sacrifices and contributions of the IRA and those old fighters who were abandoned by the snake Adams the moment he became concerned above all with making his party palatable to the voters, the other reason for the ascendancy of the likes of Mary Lou MacDonald (an ex Fianna Fail activist).
All that the Adams Faction cares about these days is grubbing for votes and getting into government in the South. Their hope is that by achieving such success they can deflect from the failure of their "strategy" in the North, and loudly proclaim themselves as an all-Ireland party in theory as well as in practice, but all the same the pustule known as Northern Ireland will continue to blot the face of this country.

Firstly I would like to thank Christy Burke for all his hard work and wish him all the best in the future.
chris
Its good to see you are not riping the back out of cristy , unlike other blogs.
But let's face it , Christy pulled a stroke on SF voters and has no right to hold onto his seat.
SF need to hit the reset button in Dublin , before the discontent spreads to the rest SF in the South.

I understand what you are saying.
But some people vote for the SF even if they had a monkey on the ticket.
Christy has just put two fingers to those voters and those SF members who help him campaign.
(I cant see SF members taking down Christy Burke posters)
But I wish Christy well , He is a good man ;who has been with SF and the republican movement for 25 long years.
To me it looks as if christy was getting his retaliation in first.

PTP - he did pull a stroke but if he gave the seat to someone else in SF, it would be SF who are pulling the stroke. Peoople need to realise it is just as undemocratic for a party to switch as it is for politician to switch. The only democratic way is for the electorate to decide.
The statements from some in SF are embarrassing tbh

For him to resign from PSF after 40 years means he must have some good reasons for doing so. His 40 years of service speaks for itself, its a shame some are ignoring that and instead are implying that he is some sort of selfish git

I'd say he's still smarting from being bumped to the sidelines for Mary Lou's ill-fated general election bid.
He made specific reference to not getting the support from the SF machine that he expected in this election (whether that's true or not, I can't say).
I also heard that he was against SF's (fairly cynical if true) alleged decision to vote against the book of estimates. Not exactly the move of a party that wishes to show it can govern in the south some day.

Sinn Fein deserves the beating....It is almost impossible to contact any of them, in Northern Ireland or in the Republic.
Where is there a feedback link in their Website? The have double barrel names which make it impossible to discern their e-mail addresses.
Any party which is attempting to establish a concrete political foundation needs to tidy up its act in the area of been contactable.
