even dem garden centre prods prefer "pigs-arse cabbage and shpuds" over "roast beef and yorkshire pudding";
so its all there in the belly!

Simply a question of how to cultivate and nurture that tri-colour relationship. and there won't be a Brit about the place.

Gravatar Chris, this is a good post (Hi, how r u ? ) But the main problem with your position is that you should join with all other democrats in totally alienating those who would undo your own party's project (which coincides with the majority population in the North) You should know that vance and McAllister will do what they have done in the past (foment ultras) and will provoke those in s Armagh and other placs that PIRA can no longer control. Nothing suits David vancs agenda more than dissident republicanism. if you tolerate him, you tolerate them. And vice versa. And thus, you'll e undone. Be consistent. STAMP OUT the extremists.

Gravatar Hi Jo

I have proved, countless times on this site and others, my opposition to dissident Republicanism and indeed to bigoted Unionism.

That said both groups are members of the Irish Nation and should be included as much as possible.

In relation to David, let's not go down this road again Jo.

I may disagree with David on lots of issues, on some we do agree, but I believe that he is a good man at heart.

One of the fundemental Christian doctrines is to love thy neighbour.

Gravatar the problem is how do peaceful people "stamp" anybody out?
all the stamping comes from the extremeists.
Its a tough one alright!

Gravatar Chris, Christianity is not represnted in him, but rather in your own attitude.

Good on you, but recognise what you allow to be close to you X

Gravatar If bigoted Unionism opposed to what you want continues and arms itself (as has happened before) what then?

No Paisleys being dragged out of the Assembly? What, then?

Gravatar When it comes to humour, food, social custom and heritage we are one.

I completely agree.

Did you know that Newry sainsburys sells more alcohol than any other branch ANYWHERE?

It means that retail stores in the south cn buy drink there cheaper than wholesalers in the south. Not that anyone in s Armagh would try and smuggle drink. I mean, theres no history...

Gravatar And entertaining Vance here means you entertain a man who would destroy everything and plunge the entire country into civil war.

Jo

I have removed your last paragraph as it was libel

Gravatar Jo

If extremist Unionists arm themselves then we will deal with that if it happens.

Gravatar Ok Chris. "WE" being through the PSNI? Just checking?

Gravatar Jo

Society

Gravatar OUR society, then, Chris. You and me and all others who live here. I'm all for that. Stop entertaining those who will never be part of that group.

Gravatar What other society is there? Of course our society.

Those people are a part of it.

Gravatar We agree then, Chris (offers hand)

Gravatar

Gravatar extremists on both sides can be "turned", but I think you need special powers, and a doctorate in divinty

Gravatar JG

Carefull!

Gravatar Do you believe that those who murdered the catholic PSNI man and the 2 soldiers are, like David Vance, "good men at heart", Chris?

What is the difference? V

Vance wants you and all "supporters of terorism" killed. Its there in black and white. I dont want you killed. I want power sharing. He opposes it, but hasnt any longer the power to bring it about.

Gravatar JG: the implications of me offering Chris my hand are understood

Gravatar Jo

David did not kill anyone, last time I checked. He opposes the current political set up and such is his right.

David has never told me that he wants me dead.

Why the obsession with David Vance?

Gravatar worry not jo, DV is top of the list for "turning",
Before plucking the fruit must be ripe

Gravatar PIRA killed Robert Bradford, MP, who fulfilled all of the above.

Gravatar SF: the party of discontent: ie , if you're discontent, emigrate.

Gravatar Jo

I spoke to you about Libel before, I will not do so again.

Gravatar For Unity to happen, we need a situation where the politicians and the churches lead us to a happy state of innocence between orange and green.

All the past guilt has to be dealt with, and the only way for that to happen is for both sides to admit.

Gravatar How about another referendum to see what percentage of people on both sides of the border are in favour of unification ?

Gravatar Good post, Chris, here's one Prod that agrees with you. We are indeed one people but with differet flavours, as you'll find in any nation. The trick Irishmen still have to perfect, though, is accepting differences without trying to change them. Personally I would love to spend a week in South Armagh and try to understand you guys properly. But the big blocker for Unionists in engaging in this kind of forum is the "PIRA: legitimate or terrorist?" issue. It's probably the most difficult issue for Republicans too. For all, sorry seems to be the hardest word.

Gravatar All seems rather pointless - the Irish people don't want a United Ireland. NI joining the ROI ? Makes as much sense as it would have been for West Germany to come under East German control.

Gravatar Durkan's chatter is just that of another self-hating Republican/Nationalist who spends far too time worrying, obsessing, shitting himself about what "Unionists" think. "Unionists" are a blight on this country, always have been and always will be. We Irish Republicans owe them NOTHING. If nearly a century hasn't been long enough to break down "Unionist" ignorance, servility and hatred, then it is perhaps placing too much faith in them to change for the better.
Durkan is also wrong about another thing. When we have an Ireland united and free, THAT will be when centuries of colonial abuse and oppression and its legacy are overcome, and not a moment before.

Gravatar Chris, Sir Denis Henry was an enemy of the Irish nation, nothing more or less, as are all like him.

Gravatar Shane

If your vision of a United Ireland ever became reality I would be the first to emigrate.

You have no idea what Irish Republicanism stands far.

All you have is hatred and bitterness.

Gravatar Gaskin, I'm not a power-hungry sell-out like your crowd of pathetic uncle toms. Go back to calling for more police actions against Republicans, you tan.

Gravatar Shane

With language like that you are either a free stater or a Plastic.

Either way it won't be you carrying that gun to free Ireland.

Typical barstool!!

Gravatar Ha. Do you even know what a gun looks like lawyer-boy? Typical truce-time "Republican" you are Gasbag, all complacent mouth and nothing else. Run along now boy, I hear Gerry wants his shoes shined.

Gravatar Amen to that Chris.

One of the interesting things is that along with the ability to acknowledge men who served in both world wars it is now more common to see that people who chose a different path. while considered to have been "wrong" may have gone that way with honourable motives. That seems to have become possible in the past couple of decades.

Gravatar Well said Chris.

I would endorse both of Ivan and BU's comments, although BU may well be angling for a weekend on the swally with you.

Gravatar Tony

I don't think that would be a good idea for John.

The last rip I went on with ones from work caused one lad to tell everyone that I was the devil as he had never felt so bad yet I was grand afterwards.

These young ones can't drink! lol

Gravatar Have you considered joining the Pioneers Chris ?

Gravatar Yes I have Ivan, then I woke up and realised it was just a horrible dream lol

Gravatar No way, Chris, I hate Southern Comfort Strange as it may sound for an Ulster Prod whom Shane would have us believe is a blight on island of Ireland, give me a Guinness any day. By the way, Shane, drop that unwholesome talk about guns. Your day has gone. Stop fighting old men's battles with your keyboard and start believing in the Irish people, whatever their subculture.

Gravatar JG: the implications of me offering Chris my hand are understood

The thought never entered my head, Jo. And in any case, I know you don't swing that way.

I wasn't laughing in a nasty way, just found the general tone a bit gas!

Gravatar John

The Southern Comfort is just the warm up act, Bushmills and Jameson provide the main show

Gravatar Yes but John Mitchel was a first class racist and his philosophy was founded on expressly racist principles. He said that Africans deserved to be made into slaves and have their land taken away from them because they were black but doing that kind of thing to the Irish was disgusting because they were white. That is why he was in favour of Irish independence.

Gravatar The Irish have a long tradition of racism.

Recently read How The Irish Became White by Noel Igbatiev - interesting.
