Great to see him go. I agree about RTÉ's coverage too, it was excellent.
I'm proud that Dublin South dumped bland Liz and elected Eamon Ryan. With a bit of luck this will be the end of the PDs. Harney is in there but Grelish was annonymous in the last Dáil and that is unlikely to change. I don't think there's any way back for them. Good riddance.
ps Maybe I'm heartless but I don't feel sorry for McDowell on any level!

Harpo, you are welcome to read my own blog post about it. Just about every Shinner I've discussed it with has said more or less the same thing so I think you can take it as fairly representative of grass roots feeling on the matter. (Although I will let Chris speak for himself!)

I read your bog and I think you have it right.
I think it comes down to the PSF lust for power. You can't say in one breath that you oppose what FF is doing and then in the next breath appear desperate to be the kingmakers whereby you are in advance saying you would go into coalition with FF. Voters don't buy that.
Add in:
1. FF folks will vote for FF no matter how much you try to take their turf.
2. Lefties will be disgusted by the dropping of lefty bits of policy.
It all adds up to PSF appealing to fewer and fewer people.
I'd just add that the 11.1% in 2004 was gained before full decommissioning, so at that point there may have been some who still enjoyed the attachment to the whiff of cordite. But even that has gone now.
