Gravatar Wow, I havn't been online in a few months and it's crazy how I havn't heard of this! I am a (consider myself) left democrat but his words completely offend me. I hate HATE Bush for everything he has done, but to right out say that the things that West has stated is crazy! I think Bush is stupid, not racist. To say the things that West has said is, I repeat again, CRAZY! He himself is the racist b*stard!

Gravatar You tell em brotha

Gravatar I'm sorry, but I feel this is another comment in a long line of them coming from Mr. West that proves once more the sort of attitude that prevents us from reaching true and unmitigated equality in this country. Maintaining the idea that it is acceptable for members of a previously oppressed minority (I would argue that in terms of legal situations there is no legislated racial inequality, only the predjudices introduced by individuals and groups that are in legal situations, illegal and unnacceptable)to carry a predjudice almost by way of revenge only stalemates any true progress that must be made. The legislation can be passed, but if people are unwilling to carry through with its underlying ideas on a social and everyday level than it is incapable of achieving the highest possible level of social change. Flinging names at Mr. West is equally pointless, and equally a waste of time. It fixes nothing. However, I must add that I feel there is an aspect of such media flare-ups like this that prevent sone from looking at and understanding the true legal inequalities in this country. One can argue quite well that minorities are not as well off as caucasians, that there is an economic discrimination in effect-- but this is not a situation caused by the absence or presence of laws that mandate such an inequality. It is due to negative bias and predjudiced sentiments (granted on the part of "White America") that this is so, not a deficiency present in those groups or in the legal system. One has only to look at the gay rights movement to see legally mandated discrimination and the giving over of America to the opinion of one group. LGBT citizens are legally prevented from obtaining rights guaranteed to American citizens. Name for me one right a member of any specific race is barred from legally? Name for me an existing law that deprives any racial group of its inherent American rights? I can't think of one. If one can be pointed out to me, I will revsied my statements and take that into account in reformulating my opinion, which, after all, is based on my current knowledge. LGBT citizens are truly deprived of their rights and were by the Bush administration thanks to the Christian sympathies of both their officals and supporters, and this predjudice continues to be upheld, as was Prop 8. Perhaps Kanye should have made those statements. It may have had a more needed and positive impact.
