I used to respect Colin Powell, but he has bought into the progressive ideas. Where did he get the notion that Americans want to pay more taxes? We're paying more now and getting less in services plus we are getting a boat load of debt that we will never be able to repay.

Rush made a good point, today. He said that Obama was open about what he wanted to do. The best explanation of why Colin Powell and many others couldn't see that is that their vision was obscured by their own biases. Many different people projected their own dreams on to Obama and now are they didn't get what they thought they bought. The general just got caught up in his own racial prejudices. Many others did too.

I honor this man's service to the country. Too bad that when it comes to politics, he just seems uninformed. And I know he is not. It seems like he's going where the wind blows. Too bad.
I saw a an interview a good while back; I think it was when he released his autobiography. The interview featured him and his wife. And the two things I remember most about that interview was how hostile his wife was to conservative values, and she didn't like that her husband was a Republican. Another thing I remember was how adamantly against she was that Powell not run for POTUS.
The reasons for her reluctance were understandable to me. It demonstrated how insulated her life and political knowledge was. She just she couldn't see how much the American people greatly respected her husband at the time. Of course, there are other reasons she had for her reluctance, but we'll never know them because they are personal.
Regardless, I believe that back then, if Powell wanted the White House, he just might have had it.
Powell is just trying - and not too well - to play both ends against the middle and keep his own ass covered.
Even he can see that his obamassiah has feet of clay -- and is screwing up royally.
I guess that he thinks that he can somehow bolster his "conservative" credentials by saying things like this. That we are just supposed to forget all that he's said while trying to suck up to barry.

Ar05075, Colin Powell is not that bright of a man. I revere him in many ways, and I know his biography.
To extend beyond the bounds of most blogs, I'll say, my youngest brother is a SDBDS officer. He was Dr.Rice's chief security officer until her protection expired. His son/my nephew is named for Colin Powell.
My brother left the Military and joined the State Dept. AFTER General Powell was Sec./State. My brother had the occasion to meet and deal with General Powell after his military service (BTW USAF). He found Powell to be a military man of huge ego largesse, and a good man, but EGOTISTICAL BEYOND BELIEF.
Long story short.
General Powell was a great American soldier. He is also a guy who loves the limelight, and he also has a bias toward wanting to see "HISTORY" VIS A VIS an African-American President.
He should have stuck to his forte!

Powell dumped a man he KNEW to be qualified for the Presidency for a man he surely must have known was not qualified. Did Powell forget that McCain served in the same terrible conflict as he did? That should have counted for more than it did. He betrayed a brother in arms for no reason. Powell had watched the video of McCain running INTO the fire to save his shipmates. He also knew that McCain was not black, and Barry was. End of loyalty, comradeship, brotherhood in arms.
I think the saddest thing that has occured in my political lifetime is to have seen African American Republicans/Conservatives breathlessly rush to the TV cameras to lend their support to Barack Obama simply in order to be "on the right side of history", or in blunt racial solidarity. I think that eradicated much of the progress we were making as a society, and it has convinced me that post-racial society is as much a dream as post-gender society, or post-breathing society.
Most of humanity is intensely tribal, and we shall remain so. Multi-cultural societies eventually balkanize, fight, and separate politically. I thought America might avoid that, but I don't believe it anymore.
