From where I sat (in the cockpit of an Apache), I didn't care who that guy shooting at me was fighting for, what his motivation was, or what particular sect he was aligned with.
My only concern was to protect the guy on the ground, help that convoy under attack or prevent the insurgents from carrying out another rocket or mortar attack.
As for saving the last round for myself, if we went down...this was and is something we talk about from time to time. The only way this affects the way we do business is the fact that I will continue to fly the aircraft to a FOB rather than land in the middle of the city unless I absolutely have to.
I realize my situation is different from the guy in the convoy or on patrol. But we have a job to do and for the most part we recognize the viciousness and outright evil nature of the enemy we face. It has been that way since we began this fight...recent events only re-enforce that for us.

Just wanted to say thank you Outlaw for your service and commitment. If it wasn't for folks like you, the rest of us wouldn't be living in such a great country.
