If you had met me on Resurrection Sunday 2008, instead of 2009, you would have seen me when I had my movement disorder. Long story short - I suffered with a chronic episodic movement disorder for 12 years, which means, my movement disorder came and went.
I would be fine for a while, but each time it came, I could essentially cross off a year of my life. On my best day, I moved like Michael J Fox does on his worst day. I know what it is like to be bedridden, disabled, and financially wiped out (4 times).
Anyway, we found the cure in the summer of 2008, and I have been rebuilding my life ever since.
So when I say that I agree wholeheartedly with your take on suffering and the Sovereignty of God, you can be assured that I don't say this naively.
God is Sovereign - even in our suffering. It's actually a very comforting doctrine. If His Sovereign Will included the suffering of Christ on the cross, who am I to think that He will not use suffering in my life to glorify Himself?
