What an encouragement it is (huge actually!), to hear of you pondering these things.
I have to say, this is one that has stuck with me as well - practicing the truth - being a 'doer' and not a 'hearer' only! And learning what it means to acknowledge that having that desire is evidence of God's grace...the same grace I need to put any of that truth He so lovingly illuminates to me, into any kind of practice!

Hi Gayla!
I think the ability to which we are able to walk in the Spirit is proportional to the degree to which we lay ourselves (our flesh) down - dying daily - in submission to Christ.
The more we lay down, the greater our walk in the Spirit. The less we lay down, the greater our walk in the flesh.
In some ways, it's really not hard, if we're relying on the Spirit - our downpayment. In other ways, it seems hard because we listen to our flesh.
But I'm finding for myself that the more I beg Jesus that I can know Him - outside of just His Word - know Him in an intimate sense in my walk, well, the more He's very real and present in my life. Hard to explain in words in the blogosphere, without a cuppa joe and a friendly face across the table, but I'm pretty sure you know exactly what I mean.
Hugs,
Susan
